Poetry Prompt & Poem
Tumblr media
This prompt comes from Writer’s Digest (link at the end of this post). If this prompt inspires you or just sparks some musing please share in the comments!
Prompt: Dream Poem
Below is my response poem to this prompt. It is a rough free write but I thought I’d share because those are always so much fun!
Poem:
it can be hauntingly beautiful the way I plunge through layer after layer of blue. floating through the icy tone of the sky. plummeting into Mexico's coastal shades of royal. diving through the ever darkening navy's that fill deep ocean caves. sometimes you're there drifting with me. but I can never seem to remind myself you're in a dream & so they never feel long enough, there's always more I could've done & could've seen.
it can be hauntingly beautiful to feel traces on the ocean speckle my cheeks when I urgently awake. eyes alert, lungs pulling, heart shuffling. I only wish I reminded myself you're in a dream so I could've stayed there instead of facing the salt crackling along my jaw not from the ocean but from the tears that pull out of me even when I'm in a dream

And so the journey begins
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME & THIS BLOG
Tumblr media
Hi and welcome to my blog! I am EvyJoBon I write both poetry & prose, often mixing the two into something new and exciting, or just plain weird. My main purpose for this blog is to create and share. I also have an Instagram Snippet Scroll @EvyJoBon where I also share my original writing please that are snippet size quick reads, please check that out as well!
Tumblr media
A little bit about me:
I am a full-time Uni student majoring in English and minoring in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry. I plan to get my MLIS and currently leaning towards public librarianship or School (H.S./College) librarianship. I love traveling even if its a local day trip. I have 3 slightly neurotic dogs who enjoy our many car rides and random adventures. I live off of equal parts coffee and tea. I always have a book on me and prefer to have 3-5 books going at once. Podcast and audiobooks take up 80% of my listening time. If I’m not on the road or hanging out with the doggos at home, I’m most likely either in the yard since I love being outside, in a library, a bookstore, or a cafe.
Along with all those things I also hope to share my creative process, progress, and writing on this blog. Overall I’d just like to connect and share.
                                 Happy reading, writing, sipping being!
                                                      -EvyJoBon

I always find reading (any type of style) helps inspire me. Here is an absolutely beautiful poem by Sabrina Escorcio @una-zingara  hopefully you find beauty and inspiration in it as well!
Best, -EvyJoBon
Tumblr media
Silhouette .
She came into the earth between pillars of freedom and oppression. Her incompatible hosts, were stubborn bones softened only by fate. .
Claiming her burden head first amidst thighs damp with promise, and blush stained bed sheets that swaddled an imperfect future. Mother, delivering wisdom, and purging past, with each painful groan. .
Their silent heritage broken as the meek battle cry left fluid filled lungs, breathing life into a stale room. A frightened young woman, now matriarch, cradles hope between trembling hands for the first time. .
What is the shape of bravery? A strong chiseled jaw gifted at birth. A mothers distended belly at nine months. The curve of a woman’s engorged breasts desperate to feed. Or is it simply, the silhouette of new mother embracing her infant .

Short Book Review - “A False Report” - Miller/Armstrong
A False Report: A True Story of Rape in America  by T. Christian Miller
My rating:  🌟 5 of 5 stars 🌟
The writing is straightforward w/o flourish which can seem dry however I feel this is very necessary for the topic. It is a compelling look at a not so uncommon mistreatment of a rape report. The entire story is treated respectfully with care towards all details and persons being reported on. I read this in audiobook format and while I did plan to pace myself because of the strong content it actually only took me just under 3 days to finish because of the overwhelming shock and need for explanations. After reading this you will feel outraged and compelled to, or at least I did, dive into a rabbit hole of research on the subject of rape cases/claims and the way they are being handled today as well as the development in the training around these procedures. Clearly not an easy read but extremely important and I'd recommend it to all adult readers.

You know this would make perfect sense ... IF everyone could afford the luxuries a library provides for free. But I mean in the spirit of free speech and considering the writer of the original argument has no idea WTH they’re saying, sure makes total sense. Which in its self offers an argument for libraries.

Best bit from statement:
“Forbes spokesperson says "...this article was outside of this contributor’s specific area of expertise, and has since been removed.”

A great list to keep around. When you need a prompt for a quick free write just pick a quote and let it spark the story! There a few that I’d like to play around with, maybe a free write post to come. Do any of these prompts speak to you?
150 Angst/Horror Prompts
“The screams all sound the same…”
“You’re gone… I watched you disappear…”
“We all watched it happened, and time stood still.”
“It feels as if time hasn’t passed”

All I’d add is remind yourself “I am free to create complete and total crap, and that’s OK”
how to make yourself write if you don’t know where to start
1. don’t expect too much of yourself
2. write down whatever you know about your idea
3. don’t format it to make it look pretty
4. use paragraphs whenever you get a new idea
5. don’t read back on what you’ve written before
6. if it helps, set your font color to white or light gray
7. don’t skip around. when you have a new idea, it goes on the end of the document
8. write sample dialogue if you have any
9. link to resources you find while googling
10. don’t delete anything. if you want to disregard something, use strikethrough
