High and Low
ok so I suck when it comes to updating regularly. But here’s this.
Icarus is an original character and if there is any similarity to another character or show or whatever then it’s completely coincidental.
Word count is 1,837. I can’t give a brief summary until the second part is uploaded.
Feathers dark as night settling by feet slipping up on them. Feet that pushed away, hitting the bottom of the cage in a soft panic. Too dark to see, too hard to tell what it was. Too confused, too much.
Feathers littered the cage. Something stirred inside, too little light to see. Too dark, too cold. Too much, too much.
Feathers falling through the openings of the cage, soft plumes drifting down to meet the stone floor. He almost forgot he was above the ground, his metal home hoisted up for the sake of forgetting what it was like for his bare feet to have something solid beneath them. Something more than just his cage.
The figure that stood below him hadn't moved an inch, it was amused by his struggle. A silhouette, a ghost. Perhaps someone to haunt him while he's trapped inside.
“Fly too close again, Icarus?” The silhouette questioned, a hint of a joke slipping into their tone. “Lost your wings? Don’t you get sick of it? Why won’t you listen to Father’s rules? I fix them again and again... I’m running out of wax.”
The panic forcing him to move ceased, he was planted where he stood. There was nothing he could do to attempt to flee, the bars too close for him to squeeze between -- God, has he tried before. He stayed silent, not wanting to humor the apparition, though he knew this one was not fake. A single step closer to the cage, their heel clicking on the tiled floor beneath them, stealing away the silence Icarus grew so close to.
“This time wasn’t me,” His voice was soft, catching him slightly by surprise. He never spoke against the thing, not when it came to him. He would never let it get the best of him whenever it chose to torment him. “You did this. You took them.”
“It speaks! If it weren’t for your heavy breaths, I would have assumed you and I had permanently parted ways. This is an honest surprise, I’m almost impressed. You used to love talking to me, Icarus. What happened between us to change that? It’s true I took your wings, but not your tongue. Would you like me to work the knots in your back like I used to? You know the way it gets when you use your wings too often. Don't you want that? I could get you out of here, though you would have a tighter collar and shorter leash. Do you want your freedom?” The question forced the words dancing on his tongue to cease, halting their waltz. How could they offer his freedom? Something he had sought after for so long, for nearly having in his grasp before his wings faltered, and he came crashing down. He had half a mind to lunge at the opportunity, but with them, he was never sure how honest their words were. He never knew what to expect from them. They had to be lying, just as they were before he was brought here. Clipped his wings and left him in the cage. That’s what they did, lied until he believed them. There was some truth in their words, but finding it was never an easy nor simple task for him. He refused to be taken for a fool this time. Icarus knew the game they played, knew every play in the book. They wouldn’t tempt him again.
“I’m not falling for that. If you could just bring Father--”
“For you to what, Icarus? You’ve fallen time and time again, with only Father to thank for it. He’s given you a cursed name, a cursed body. You want to beg for redemption? As if you have the ability to stay where you were never meant to be. You were his favorite, his only, but now times have changed. Icarus, you were created to ensure his safety. Instead you’re in the clouds, but too weak to stay in their soft embrace. You fall, too intoxicated with the heat of Sol’s rays to realize your wings have given out. People see you, and you were never meant to be seen. All you are is a failed science experiment, punishment for Father playing God.” Only a moment in their verbal attack did they seem sympathetic. The end to it sounding sincere, as if they cared for him. Their words weren’t meant to bite into him, but give him strength. Unfortunately, he hadn’t interpreted that as it possibly should have been.
“He would understand. He would know what to do, would let me out. My place isn’t in this cage, it’s out with him. With you. Why are you both so sure of yourselves? Sure of what I need to become?” Icarus found his voice, found the syllables needed to form his own attack against them. “Did either of you think I wanted this? To be locked away and only set free when it was convenient? Don’t you see I’m more than an experiment, more than a toy? I’m a living creature! One that deserves respect where it’s due, and to be treated fairly!” The anger in his voice, the amount of desperation it was covered in, the way he began to pace within his cage that it swayed with him with each step, none of it was anticipated. He stood still during these lectures, took their words as they came and never so much as met their eyes. But now his prison shook with an aggression he never knew he had, something buried within himself he barely scraped the surface of. Neither of them were ready for his words. It was an attack against the person that was so generous in visiting him, though their presence brought nothing but torment.
“Is that truly what you think, Icarus? That you live and breathe like those you see below you? That you are on the level they are? ‘Treated fairly, shown respect’?” They were mocking his tone, seeing it as a joke and pulling the seriousness away by the roots. “You aren’t worth such a feat. Not when you can barely keep yourself in the air.” They spat poison, infecting his image he thought so highly of. It came and fell as quickly as Icarus spoke of it, the death came with no surprise. No shock nor awe as it fell as he had before.
The silhouette turned from him, their face just barely caught in the light. Their expression gave it all away, the shame they felt in him. The disappointment, he couldn’t expect anything different from them. He knew there was nothing to be done about it, the door was already closing behind them before he could say another word against them. Anything extra would lead to a longer sentence in the cage.
Silence covered the room, becoming a veil to mask it all. Nothing to be heard, nothing to be said. What was said was done, what they would say to Father brought nothing but worry to him. Nothing but fear. Meeting with Father, if he could stomach being in this room with him again. The simple possibility, the single percentage of it happening, was enough to make him shake. Father walked like a reaper, someone grim who would bring nothing more than misery and pain. If the two were to meet, he would carry himself with the sheer force of a hurricane. A man without mercy, a man he calls Father. Someone he relies on for protection, one to return his wings when he’s locked in a cage. They claimed to hold him down, clip his wings. He had to rely on the meager possibility that Father would be in a forgiving mood. Or, perhaps, they were lying to him. They had before, it’s more than possible for them to do it once more.
He sank in the cage, forcing it to lean to one side as his head rested against one of the metal bars. Seconds were hours now, minutes to months. Whether he slept or not was a mystery, one he didn’t care enough to figure out. Too much confusion, too much.
Too much, too much. Too cold, to scared. Too worried about the future, about Father and what he may say. The consequences of his actions from before, the chance for him to be free again. To stretch his wings, feel the sun on his back. The wind in his hair, the way it would tug at his shirt. Even the memory seemed to ease his mind, ease the worry it held. He had to be free, he needed to be free.
The weight of his wings kept him too close to the ground, but they never gave him the chance to fly. They never let him stretch out, never set him free. He used to let himself believe that while he was on a leash, he was loose. While he was flat on the floor, he was free. Not now, not anymore. Now it would change, these moments spent in a cage would cease. This wrongful discipline, if it could even be called that, would come to an end.
He had to do something, had to find a way to break free. Words would no longer be a bargaining chip for him, the promise to do better was no longer appealing to unsatisfied ears. There was no going back if he chose to take a step in this direction, to step away from what he knew and to be outside without his leash pulling him back. With the absence of his collar threatening to choke him if he wandered too far from everyone else.
All he had to do was jump, right?
Icarus shifted in the cage, swayed side to side to make it swing on the chain it was suspended by. A link would give, it had to. They would never expect him to make such a move, to push this far. He was right, by some miracle he knew it would. The quick snap of the chain and he was sent to the ground in a massive clang! he knew his ears would ring for the next hour. The fall left a dent in the bars, a gap barely wide enough to get himself through with only a few feathers missing.
Was it really that simple? Was getting out supposed to be this easy? Was all of this a test? He didn’t care enough to find out, not with the possibility of Father coming in at any moment he chose to. There was no chance here, no time to choose. Fight or flight, in a literal sense.
Flight, it was always going to be flight. The morning sun was coming in through the skylights, he wouldn’t have cover much longer. The sun wouldn’t be on his side anymore. He pushed himself up, wings spreading and forcing themselves down to send him rocketing upward, then wrapped around him to protect against what was yet to come.
Freedom. There you are.

Can you do no. 46 "I'm your daughter." with Fetch please? :D
I feel so bad for not being able to see her in any situation that would have this dialogue. I thought about it being with her parents, but she wouldn’t ever go back to them. Thought you should know I saw your ask and did try, but didn’t get far.
I’m sorry.

Delte pls with “Everyone keeps telling me you’re the bad guy.” //Disco
Hey... how about another.
He’s quiet for a few moments, stuck in thought and wondering what comes next. Delsin found him again up on a roof, balancing on the edge. The sheer drop down made his stomach turn. The lights of cars far below, their lights more vibrant as the sun began to sink beneath the horizon. Just a step, just a fall. That’s the easy part; taking the fall.
“Hey, skyscraper. Kinda funny I found you on one, huh?” Delsin’s voice pulls him from his mind just as it always has. “Step back, please. For me.” The tips of the nephilim’s boots already hanging over the edge. A drop like that could do the trick, right?
“I can’t keep doing this, Delsin. You keep forgiving me, acting like it will change, being so delusional that if you stay vigilant I won’t slip. I rampage in Limbo and you don’t care. What if I go into Seattle again? What if it’s your tribe? I’ve had close calls before, remember? It would be easier this way, less of a risk. You can’t keep forgiving me out of pity, you can’t keep doing this.” He looks down at the traffic, at the lights of the city beneath him. It won’t take long, would it? It’s much higher than Delsin’s flat. If he angles it right...
“No,” The delinquent’s response wasn’t shocking. It was anticipated, already known before it was said. “Everyone keeps telling me you’re the bad guy. You’re a killer, a monster, all that shit. You wanna know what I say? You’re selling yourself short. Dante, you’re as much of a monster as I am. Why do you focus on what you are instead of who?”

29. “I thought you were dead.” (Post-game Augustine and Infamous!Delsin OOOOOOO {Disco})
“Y’know, lady, I thought you were dead. I was hoping you were, with half the shit I pulled while you were off kissing concrete. But here you are, not mangled and shattered into pebbles.” Delsin smiled, letting his arms spark with just a few of the powers he had snitched off the conduits. Wire, glass, even paper after he got a hold of Celia. Oh, was that white rabbit chase fun... Down the rabbit hole.
“You’ve expanded your arsenal even farther than I had imagined, but what of the overload? Does your voice still ‘glitch’ when you summon too many of Sims’ angels? Or are you still vomiting neon when Miss Walker’s power becomes too much? Delsin, you’ve got all the abilities you want right under your skin, but no ability to stop them from tearing you apart. I’m almost sorry for you.”

36. “I wish I could hate you. (With Augustine and Reggie, if you're up for it. AHAHAHAHAHA!! {disco})
“I’m almost surprised, having your brother here for over a month and you’ve yet to speak with him,” Augustine sits behind her desk, Reggie in front of her. He stands with shoulders high, chin up. The way he does to show he’s paying attention while he struggles to keep himself at bay. “He’s been begging to see you, especially after he caught eye of you in the squadron that brought him here.”
Reggie stood still, holding his breath in an attempt to gather himself. he knew what she was saying was just to push him over the edge, what was happening was her poor attempt at breaking him. This was pathetic, yet she held her ground regardless of him refusing to bend.
“I wish I could hate you. What you’ve done to him, what you’re making him become. God, you’re pathetic. But that doesn’t make me any better, does it? You being the one leading us. I can’t bring myself to hate you, but you’re worse than I thought.”

Can you do no. 40 with fetch and reggie please? Thanks :D
40. “Have I entered an alternate universe or did you really just crack a smile for me?”
“Guy’s got a lot of guts, but he’s running faster than I can. How’d you manage? It’s been two weeks and I’m done.” Fetch stood beside Reggie, watching as Delsin leaped head-first into a D.U.P. raid. This was the third time he so readily entered a (literal) fire-fight with the bumbling bees. Her remark formed a small smile on the sheriff’s face.
“You have no idea. Shoulda seen him when he was nine with a super-soaker.”
“Have I entered an alternate universe or did you really just crack a smile for me? Seriously, cop. This is weird, you feelin’ okay?”

Dude for the writing prompt 2.0 can you do delsin and fetch for no. 6 please? Love your blog, btw :D
6. “You’re hiding something from me.”
It wasn’t very long, he was hoping she wouldn’t notice. After all, getting it here was difficult as ever. Lifting a couple wallets here and there, selling art for however much was offered. He barely had enough to cover the cost.
“You’re hiding something from me, D. I can see that smile on your face. Don’t try acting like there’s not some hidden secret,” She picked up on it easy, maybe too easy. “Come on, come out with it. I don’t feel like playing your games.” Fetch had this way of looking at him with this certain face. Not a loving face, but more of a ‘if you don’t show me right now I’m kicking your ass’ kind of way. Delsin opened the door to his room, then scooped up the small kitten he worked hard to get here.
“Burmese cat, right?”
