But if these years have taught me anything it is this: you can never run away. Not ever. The only way out is in.

Everyone has an occasional bad dream, but some have chronic nightmares. In this story, experts describe chronic nightmare therapy.
This is what I was talking about in my previous post: envisioning a different end to nightmares in order to get relief from chronic nightmares.

Dream Journaling
I've thought of journaling my dreams - or more precisely, nightmares - on here for a long time but I always hesitate because I feel like taking the time to write down my dreams will give them more time in my mind, more space in my day, and make them disturb me longer than necessary. But I am interested in trying a technique for reducing nightmares that I've read about where you write down and/or envision a new ending to your nightmares. I've tried everything - meds, therapy, lucid dreaming, etc - and nothing has helped, so I ought to give this a try.

Musings
The little poets sing of little things:
Hope, cheer, and faith,
small queens and puppet kings;
Lovers who kissed and then were made as one,
And modest flowers waving in the sun.
The mighty poets write in blood and tears
And agony that, flame-like, bites and sears.
They reach their mad blind hands into the night,
To plumb abysses dead to human sight;
To drag from gulfs where lunacy lies curled,
Mad, monstrous nightmare shapes to blast the world.
― Robert E. Howard

“Why does the mind do such things? Turn on us, rend us, dig the claws in. If you get hungry enough, they say, you start eating your own heart. Maybe it's much the same.”
― Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin

Those trembling voices,
loud enough to be overheard
cling onto my ears
as I embrace
the enveloping darkness
of my profound fate;
Feigned, as it may seem,
like growling monsters
in an eccentric scene;
barred in my obscure mind,
impossible to defeat.
I am the instrument of my own destruction. (chimericalscheme)

Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown, there’s only so many traumas a person can withstand until they take to the streets and start screaming.
