My Iron Dad Secret Santa piece for @tonystarkbrokemyheart!! They asked for domestic Tony and Peter and I was very happy to provide :) They mentioned how their siblings will make sure to take off toppings and such that they don’t like, and so I drew Peter giving Tony all the mushrooms off his pizza~

some people will see a post that has a few sjw buzzwords in it and completely change their mind about something they like without actually critically evaluating what the other person is saying. that is, people in fandom tend to throw around ‘toxic masculinity’ and ‘gaslighting’ and other buzzwords in an effort to bolster an otherwise weak argument to dislike something. (tumblr thinking you need an argument to dislike something is a whole other can of worms).

anyway, the reason buzzwords are effective in bolstering bad arguments is because it’s almost impossible to fight against said argument without risking people coming after you for being ‘pro-gaslighting’ or whatever. more than that, it involves having to first argue through the red herring argument (i.e. the buzzwords) before getting to the actual argument (x is bad) – and because its a buzzword that’s usually associated with ‘wokeness’ or other forms of political correctness, cutting through it to get to the point isn’t likely to be accepted.

that’s not to say that buzzwords can’t be used in (fandom) discourse -- because often, they are important -- but when you see them, at least in imo, examine how they’re being used and if they’re actually being supported not just by the argument, which is inherently colored by the opinions of the op, but also by canon.

this might be weirdly specific but do you ever read a fic and the author clearly thinks the character’s parents are horrible or abusive........and you’re sitting there thinking of all the times your parents did things that are -- i don’t want to say worse, but like....worse. and then you get this cognitive dissonance and this like instinctual urge to defend your parents like ‘well what my parents did wasn’t that bad’ or ‘they acted in a different context so it was fine’ or whatever else and you just keep justifying it bc most of the time your parents are great ‘so it’s different when they do it’
