i hope Onyx & Elm pulling all their fic is the slap in the face reminder that some of you need to NOT PROFIT OFF FANFIC. fanfic is 100% a labor of love and something that’s done purely as a passion project. authors put free content out there and get NO money or reward from it. so to see people take that and profit off of it is…disheartening to say the least. as someone who has bound fics myself before (while being mindful of authors’ personal rules for their fic) i can tell you guys that it’s so fucking easy to just NOT sell it. its not hard to be a respectful and decent person.

As an avid Dramione reader, I have had a blast the past few years. So many new, incredible fics, so many beautiful works of fanart, and so many stunning fic binds.

I genuinely and truly believe that the care and skill that goes into fic binding is just as much an art form as any other in fandom. It's a labor of love. And I've adored seeing so many creative ideas and takes on my favorite fics.

But there are people using the ficbinding trend for greed. And it puts all of fanfic at risk. Authors are rightfully pulling their works because of the insatiable greed of others.

There's not much I can do to fight this. I report on etsy, but beyond that, what can I, a mere reader, do?

The only other thing I can think of is to unfollow all ficbinders on social media. It's unfair to the ones who are genuinely doing it because they love the works and the craft, but it's all I can think of to try and turn the tide of this particular consumption trend away from fanfiction.

Hopefully one day, when the vultures have moved on, hopefully leaving something behind in their wake, I can appreciate the artistry of binding again.

But right now, for me, it's the right choice to disengage entirely, for the sake of all fanfic.

My Dramione WIP “Inside Your Mind”

This is my current wip and the first fic i’ve ever shared on AO3!

I’ve always been fascinated by Death Eater Hermione AUs, and this fic evolved from me just toying with the idea of what I think it would actually take for Hermione to become one.

The fic is canon divergent (obviously) and begins in sixth year when Hermione and her parents are taken captive by the Death Eaters in Malfoy Manor. Faced with the impossible choice between betraying her friends and saving the lives of the two people she loves most, she comes to realize she never really had a choice at all.

This is an E rated, slow burn, Dark!Hermione fic. Eventually we’ll get our HEA but not after some heavy angst. I’m really excited to explore Draco and Hermione’s character arcs and all the characters they’ll come into contact with throughout their journey.

For now my plan is to upload twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays :)
