A Love Poem
All I want is a nice table cloth,
a picture of my parents
and the 44th President,
a piece of cake to celebrate my birthday,
and your hand on my back
as I blow out the candles.

Things We Haven’t Talk About
1.
your fathers’ advice
your mothers’ smell
2.
your sisters
and how you felt
when you each
lost one
3.
the day
you packed your bag
for a one-way trip
4.
who you had imagined
the other one would be

A takeaway
There’s only so much she can take
There’s only so much she can bake
There’s only so much cake
She’s only here for steak
She’s only a mistake
She’s lonely for a break
She’s lonely

How Sad To Think:
your eyes staring into mine
will soon be
just a memory

I would hate
To wake up
And realize
That forty years
Have passed,
And all
I can
Say is,
"Oh
Look
How fast
Time
Flies"

She took off her sweater,
her blouse,
the cloth underneath her clothing,
scattered them down the street
where they floated in puddles
like discarded ash
from her cremated body.

all that’s pretty
will not follow
you
into the hole in the ground,
but it will help
the flowers
grow
from the roots on up.

In the end, they die.
But you already knew that.
I'm sure it doesn't ruin the story.
For in the end, you die, too.
