The jealousy sequences in today's eps were amazing. Like - this sums up the whole triangle. (Side note: Zhang Zhe is amazing and by far the best/most suitable of the three men but alas...I do love my murder meowmeow XW though!)

His incredulous anger? AMAZING!!! He is so jealous he cannot contain it and the delicious thing is neither of them realizes it.

Ahahaha he is projecting so hard on Yan Lin he should get a medal. But then Yan Lin is his beloved baby cousin so he could sublimate this way; he cannot with ZZ.

That's a huge, jealous (though not incorrect) leap from her "I admire him for helping me" and it's glorious. And she totally has a point - he's her teacher/frenemy, not lover or family member, what business is it of his? But aaaaaaa he is so jealous he's going to get ulcers.

Your kinks are a bit extreme, young man. But seriously, he's projecting SO SO SO SO HARD!!! (Also, this is the first Bai Lu drama where I don't get the vibe that she'd domme the hell out of her OTP in bed. More like they'd take turns.)

I love that while she's smarter this go around, her impetuous nature is still there; I think the schemer in him is actually drawn to it. But also - yes, neither realizes it - but she is open with him because she subconsciously realized she can trust him, and it's huge, and they are both oblivious. I don't know what's eating him more though - thought that she thinks he's nice (the horror!) or the anger that he's not special to her, she'd treat anyone this way. And it's all underlaid with the panic that if she's too open, she's in danger.

Screaming into my hands, putting my hands down and just screaming unimpeded into the air. This this THIS is his attitude in life 1 explained!!!!

He is not wrong, but the delicious irony because I am spoiled and he will indeed end up having her used to control him. LIKE!!!! He will know all the pitfalls of vulnerability and still not be able to hide his feelings sufficiently. I cannot take this gloriousness!!!

And what he says is not to protect just himself/herself but the object of affection too, isn't it? I love that she realizes where he is coming from - the revelation on her face (because it shows he's concerned for her) even if she does not realize he loves her and also loved her in life 1.

But of course, also - this attitude might keep you safe but it will also lose you any chance with the person you love (see life 1.) He won't be able to keep his feelings shut as much this go around and ultimately that's going to be his path to a happy ending. MMMM

Kind of part two of Capsaicin being a Baddie and big thanks to @x-vivern-x for this idea.

*The scene is set at night before a B.A.D. 4 concert. Capsaicin, Prune Juice, and Kougin-Amann were standing front row, glow sticks in hands.*

Prune Juice: I know you said that you got us tickets...but I wasn't expecting front-row tickets.

Kougin-Amann: Me too. I would have thought that these were hard to get.

Capsaicin: Not exactly. Honestly, I would have gotten the tickets for the seats further back. A better view of the whole stage. But these were the only ones available.

*Before either Kougin-Amann or Prune Juice could say anything, the lights dimmed down and music started to play.*

Capsaicin: It's starting!!!! B.A.D. 4!!!! WOOO!!!!!

*The crowd started going crazy. Prune Juice and Kougin-Amann looked at each other and then looked back on stage to see four silhouetted figures on stage. As soon as the beat dropped, the lights shifted and showed the four members of B.A.D. 4, ZZ Skull, HellHound, Mushy P., and T.N.T., ready.*

Capsaicin: Alright!!! Let's go!!!! *waves his glowsticks*

Kougin-Amann: This song is...um...

Capsaicin: *huge smile* It's great, right!?

Kougin-Amann: That's it. It's great.

*As the concert kept going, Prune Juice started to feel...a bit warm. He looked over at Capsaicin, about to say something, when he noticed his body heating up.*

Prune Juice: (Oh no...if this continues...) Capsaicin!

Capsaicin: WOOOO! *gets more heated up*

Prune Juice: Capsaicin Cookie!

Capsaicin: Let's go!! *Starts glowing*

Kougin-Amann: *notices Capsaicin* Ah! Capsaicin! You're about to-

*Just as she was about to finish speaking, Capsaicin transformed into his Magma form. This caused a lot of Cookies and Sugary beings to be pushed back as well as the barriers to be slightly pushed back. B.A.D. 4 stopped singing due to the giant being in front of them, followed by the crowd. HellHound stood in front of Mushy P. while ZZ Skull and T.N.T. stood their ground. Prune Juice and Kougin-Amann stepped closer to Capsaicin and screamed at the top of their lungs.*

Prune Juice and Kougin-Amann: Capsaicin Cookie!

*Capsaicin finally looked around to notice everyone was tiny compared to him and that he was now taller than the stage. He starts to slightly panic.*

Capsaicin: Ah! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do this! Give me one second!

*He concentrated and soon shrunk back down to his regular size and nervously rubbed his head.*

Capsaicin: I'm sorry for ruining the show everybody. I...I just...Just got too excited.

Random 1: That was awesome!

Random 2: I almost thought this was part of the show!

Random 3: That shows how great B.A.D. 4's songs are!

HellHound: Oi! You! The magma Cookie!

*Capsaicin turned around to see HellHound standing at the edge of the stage, mic in hand. He started to sweat.*

Capsaicin: Y-yes?

HellHound: What's your name?

Capsaicin: C-Capsaicin Cookie of Scovilla.

HellHound: As dangerous as what you did, I have to say this...that was a perfect showstopper.

Capsaicin: *sheepishly laughs* Thanks. Sorry for stopping the show.

HellHound: Don't sweat it. *walks back to center stage. Whispers to the other members before turning back to the crowd.* This next song goes out to Capsaicin Cookie, our best showstopper yet!

*The crowd goes wild while Capsaicin froze with a smile on his face. Prune Juice and Kougin-Amann did try to unfreeze him, only for him to start cheering and glowing a bit.*

Prune Juice: (Hopefully, we don't get another showstopping moment again.)

I don't get it ... I really don't.

Like, I love Nerdrotic and I'm a big fan of Doctor Who too ... but I don't get the Daemon love man, even with Matt Smith doing the Lord's Work, I just don't.

Like Daemon Blackfyre is a character I can get behind, cause, yeah, he's a rebel and stuff - but he is also, legit, a good dude. Like The Blackfyre Rebellion was fought by two good men and their heroic sons who were surrounded by their asshole brothers - Bittersteel and Blood Raven.

Daemon isn't even a good dude, he just does asshole stuff and somehow that makes him cool?

People damn near Jerk-Off to when he kills Vaemond, but then get mad and indignant when Criston Cole does the same thing to Beesburry for the same damn reason - to protect the honor of his woman.

This is why I'm just a bigger fan of Tolkien in the end. Cause, being a douche bag and doing bad things aren't seen as badass or put on fandom plaque by the Tolkien. I'm a big Comic Book guy, and I'm an author. I get you want your villains to be a threat and dangerous - it only helps the hero. But at the end of the day, no matter how sympathetic they are ... they're still fucking villains.

I don't know, i read that post your responded to and I just get so fucking annoyed with this fandom sometimes and their propensity for putting the absolute worst pieces of shit on trophies while coming at characters like Alicent and Criston.

ZZ Top spoke the truth: "Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man."

As @lemonhemlock pointed out already, the fact that Matt Smith already had his built in Eleventh Doctor girlies massively helped in selling the character of Daemon. Nonetheless I agree completely that the dude has few redeeming qualities, and it's purely hype that leads people to stan him after he should have pissed away any of the goodwill he had left by pulling his stunt at the God's Eye. At least you can joke about Aemond being a based milf hunter....

Toon-girl234's HTF OC Spirit 🐺 joins in, and she's suiting her first "Cuteness Mecha Armor". The successor of the (prototype) Qubeley, the "Qubeley Mass Production Type".🤖 The same features as the original Qubeley albeit with two range weapons behind her back. 😁 Hope her new ability Psycommu System will mastered, as long as she'll getting into it. 😉

Qubeley Spirit Mass Production Type Came from the real - AMX-004G Qubeley Mass Production Type [CLICK ME!]

Armament(s):

Active Cannon • A pair of movable beam cannons are mounted on the suit's back and they have a wide-firing arc. The cannons can shoot at targets that are both in front of the armor suit and targets behind the armor suit.

Hand Launcher/Beam Saber • Mounted in the forearms, the pair of hand launchers/beam sabers are the same as the beam guns/sabers used by the Qubeley Mass Production Type's predecessor. When used as hand launchers, they function as beam guns and remain mounted in the forearms. When used as beam sabers, they are hand carried.

Funnels • The Qubeley Mass Production Type's most dangerous weapons system is the 30 psycommu controlled remote funnel weapons stored in the mobile suit's tail binder. The remote funnel weapon was based off of the Elmeth's larger remote bit, its smaller in size due to how it uses an energy capacitor system. Because the funnels don't have their own power generator they must recharge aboard the Qubeley after a certain amount of time. The remote funnels are used to create an all-range attack from multiple vectors, essentially creating a cage of beams that is impossible to dodge except for the most agile of armor suits and the most skilled of members.

Let's see, for animals

coyotes, black bears, cougars (there is a pattern here lol) but also. i'm really vibing with pygmy anteaters, they look so kind and wise like a tiny friendly wizard

environments: high desert and the rocky mountains 🥰 i feel more at home in the mountains and plains of new mexico and colorado than i ever have anywhere else. something about it is so special to me. also just. anything in true autumn. rainy and golden and crisp

music genres: i hesitate to say metal bc while the metal i do like is probably my Most favorite kind of music, im absurdly picky lmao, i do not as a whole like just anything in the genre. i also love new wave and what i call 'dad rock', stuff your hypothetical 50-60 yr old stoner dad would listen to. classics ranging like. fleetwood mac, tom petty, deep purple, grateful dead, led zeppelin, but also harder stuff like zz top, sammy hagar, black sabbath

childhood books: gonna be honest with you, my memory is real bad especially regarding my childhood and i read a LOT back then so i probably don't even remember my favorites. i did read watership down quite young, and that's a big fav. i really enjoyed the first two series of warrior cats, but i do not care for them now (but i can still get riled up about these ridiculous fictional cats lmao). a couple i remember reading and really liked that i don't remember well now was the dark portal series and the egypt game. i remember the dark portal books being pretty intense horror for a children's series, which i liked. i also enjoyed what i read of the redwall books, mossflower was my favorite and i have a lovely illustrated edition of it 😍

games:

i am. so so bad at video games, i am only good at 2 dimensional button masher type fighting games, but i kick ass at those lol. dead or alive was my series of choice. also a big fan of silent hill 2

but board games, oh man. i Love board games. extremely partial to clue bc it plays to my strengths, especially my IT (2017) special version. survive is one of my all time favs too. CAH is always a winner. i can usually be suckered into playing life or scrabble, and the 2001 or older editions of blokus are good too. recently tried a more basic version of the game evolution, and im really excited to get the full version and play it someday. just never monopoly, fuck that game.

wildcard:

uhmmmm how about current favorite snacks? im very into peanut butter cups atm, and fancy cheese with crackers. also those churro kitkats....they dont taste like churro i think but theyre divine

Three pieces of silver for the ride. Do you still want to go? WOH episode 2. ZZS does not know that his decision to come to the Mirror Lake Mansion will change his life. For now, he is at the beginning of his new path. Every person ZZS meets on this journey will change the way ZZS sees the world. The first step was to talk to WKX, the next step was to talk to the carrier. ZZS interrupted his sleep, the carrier had no intention of working and to discourage ZZS he charged him a high price for the carriage. He assumed the thin, miserable-looking beggar would leave. ZZS may have decided to travel to the ZCL sect under the influence of memories, he had no specific plans where to go. He decided that this trip might be a good choice. The choice of the carrier could have been accidental, ZZS did not suspect that later their fates would be connected. That a dying old man would convince him to make promises. For now, none of them have any idea how their future will turn out. The older man does everything to get ZZS to give up his services. He even calls him a fool when ZZS agrees to his price. He is a bit suspicious of how a dying-looking beggar would get so much silver. ZZS does not resign, tells the carrier about the concluded contract and demands its performance. We don't know how long this conversation would have lasted if WKX hadn't shown up and proposed to ZZS that he give him a ride. The carrier felt offended and agreed to take ZZS. This short scene allows us to discover another side of ZZS personality, a stubborn young man who can stick to his position. It also shows that you shouldn't judge a person by their appearance. Maybe ZZS isn't as physically fit as before, but it's still dangerous. Of all the costumes on the show, ZZH liked this ZZS hobo costume the most. Dressed in shabby robes and with a dirty, tanned face, he looked beautiful. This ugly disguise could not fully hide his beauty. This caused that everyone who looked at him carefully could not forget his appearance. The carrier underestimated his client, he assumed that it was another beggar who wanted to convince him for a free ride. And ZZS did not know that by choosing this particular carrier, it would change its plans and life once and for all. It was like meeting destiny. This spur of the moment decision may have changed his life. ZZH is cute in the hobo version of ZZS, he could easily get into the form of a beggar and it made him a lot of fun. It's impossible not to like this version of ZZS.

i really cant tell if im so opposed to the idea of wenzhou seriously going after each other in their younger years because i dont agree with the interpretation/headcanon, or because i just hate it >:( i guess, the image of a zzs from qiye (a baby!) going through with the murder of what would be his zhiji and love of his life in another universe makes me incredibly sad. why do you think zzs would do that? i mean, if you have an idea how that might look like, do u wanna share? because while he was a baby back then and his life was already almost not his own anymore, zzs is a tricky guy, and he was soft and approachable enough that he might have had cause to get out of this one. but then again, he would have needed to have sufficient time getting to know wkx, busy and ensnared as he was! like, i really have no idea at all here

oh god!! hm ok ok let me try n collect my thoughts.... to b clear! i'm abt 70% of the way through tyk + have not read much of qiye at all other than what i've seen summarized in meta posts!! theres like definitely context i am probably missing fsdkfgk. but tbh i don't think theyd seriously go after each other either.. i dont think either of them would choose to or want to. i do, however, think that like. there is a certain theoretical scenario in which if zzs was still the head of tc, professionally committing atrocities including against people he DID love dearly, noted guy who is utterly shit about being emotionally literate,& something happened that caused him to think that the extremely powerful, extremely dangerous ghost valley master could be a threat? i think he might hesitate but i think he would.

It may not necessarily be something I'm actively seeking to watch, but as an adult who both could do so at any point and is able to appreciate less bombastic cartoons for what they want to put forth, I can honestly say I get why King of the Hill has a special place in people's hearts. Not like I was opposed to it or anything, I'm just saying I have the capacity to appreciate it for what it is whenever I catch Dad watching old episodes that I didn't have when I was a kid during its original run.

The character designs aren't super-exaggerated or painted in bright eye-catching colors, mainly because it's not a show for children and it doesn't have to, but even most other "adult cartoons" in the US tend to make their characters' designs on par with the kids' cartoons. The King of the Hill cast, on the other hand, they're just people. You could walk into your local grocery store and see a family like the titular Hills. Most people know someone like many of the main characters. They're all just normal people with realistic levels of weirdness. They're also not constantly being offensive for the sake of being offensive like some "adult cartoons".

There's nothing too implausible in the plots of each episode, either. Idk much about the plots of certain "adult cartoon" episodes, but I do remember some of The Simpsons and things got wild from time to time. Most of the King of the Hill episodes seem to be stuff that wouldn't be too out of place for an extended adult friend group to experience. Someone's kid racking up hundreds of dollars of credit card debt donating to a foreign orphanage that results in the family going to that country and one of their other kids getting kidnapped by cartel guys (I think?) may make for an entertaining plot, but if the point is to be relatable I think it's a bit Much. But a bunch of Texan guys hopping the border to retrieve some of their favorite brand of beer to crack open with the boys? A man trying to con a breastaurant by applying for a job solely to sue them for sex-based discrimination only to actually get the job and his own set of booty shorts? A college sorority turning out to be a dangerous cult? Traveling to a foreign country to meet your half-brother from when your dad was there during the war? Not terribly implausible in this crazy world of ours. Hell, the most crazy episode I remember seeing for myself was the one where the band ZZ Top showed up because Hank (iirc) was related to one of its members, and as much as we may joke about them growing Minecraft Youtubers in a lab, celebrities don't exactly spawn out of thin air so of course they're going to have non-celebrity relatives somewhere.

Idk, I'm just having Thoughts about a cartoon that I was never big into, but my dad likes it so I'm happy for him c:

Why No One Got Nailed In The First Timeline: (a Qi Ye post)

I was rereading some of @hunxi-after-hours incredible meta and got stuck on the part of this post ^ where it's mentioned that Priest stated in the first life wkx and zzs never met.

Which is making me lose it because that's what I had just assumed from the beginning- right up until the whole rest of the fandom was talking about how sad it would be that in the first life theyd have still fallen in love but zzs would have just died of the nails. That seems to be common fanon interpretation which is of course great if you like angst, and when I saw that I was just like oh ok that tracks I guess: in first life not only does zzs not have jby to show up and meddle in his affairs due to his execution, he also doesnt even have a relationship/debt with wu xi because in first life wu xi is never in the capital at all. So yeah, in first life a zzs who set out to die of the nails would not be able to be saved.

But the thing is in my initial read, I actually thought that in the first life zzs probably never left the city at all. I actually assumed that in first life, zzs and jby both stayed caught in the emperor's orbit and the morass of politics until it killed them. I figure it was only that in the seventh life, zzs saw jby get out, make it to freedom, and even though they can't have been in much if any contact, knowing that at least beiyuan made it out was enough for zzs until it wasn't, until he realized that he needed to do the same. I think seeing that it was possible, even at the cost of abandoning everything you knew, inspired him to find his own way out.

So I'm super validated actually that even though I love how much priest does leave to our imaginations there might be official word on this that actually supports the interpretation I thought I was crazy for having. Additionally, the post I'm referencing also talks about ljx as a catalyst, which we'd be remiss to forget. The altered events in the first life dont bring ljx to the capital with jby if at all, and without the crushing wakeup call of ljx paired with jby's narrow escape I think zzs could and did keep lying to himself for longer (it's a talent of his). I think jiuxiao stays out of it and jby dies and that actually cements zzs' belief that that's what they signed up for, to die in the service of the empire they built. I think he's equally moderately suicidal, just unable or unwilling to betray hly by leaving.

Remember, in first life jby's execution happens when he's I think either 30 or 32ish. According to my other timeline finagling post zzs is a couple of years older. Think about that- in seventh life jby skips town probably around 22 or 23, and zzs does the same four years later. They spent the better part of another decade at hly's side in the first life. No wonder zzs offers jby his life and jby is like, um, pass. That must have been demoralizing as hell for both of them but at least they had each other, until, well, you know.

After jby's death I do think zzs hits the same burnt out disillusioned stage of the seventh life and I do think he dies about it eventually, but I always figured it was more like working himself to death or taking on more and more wildly dangerous tasks until something finally worked. I don't think it was nails because the whole point of the nails is the brief freedom they afford, and the slightly longer freedom zzs knows the secret to. Seventh life zzs doesn't want to die so much as he wants to actually live a life, death is just the price hes willing to pay. I'm not even sure, again, that first life zzs ever really considered living his own life an option, and by then may have been too damaged to really want to.

Also- I'm veering into personal headcanon here but- are we so sure that the nails even exist in first life? Because remember one of the first key differences between first and seventh life zzs. Seventh life zzs, it is said, invented the nails himself. Seventh life zzs definitively had one thing he didnt in the first life: a business partner who was so extremely knowledgeable about physiology and medicine that he later removes those nails and gives zzs his life back. Do I think wu xi is where zzs got the basic knowledge for the nails? Why not, wu xi is already the lynchpin of so much of the plot. Best boy.

Which does of course leave room for interesting speculation about what a wkx who never meets zzs does in first life, but as much as I am Love WKX I've done what I came here to do, which is think about jby/zzs being best friends in many sad and evil and sweet ways, and appreciate wu xi (best boy), so that's it that's the post.

Hi, I def don't mind, picking favorites is fun 😁

So, characters!

#1: Wen Kexing, no contest. He isn’t just my TYK fav, he is to date my favorite danmei character overall.

I... don't know where to point first, I love everything about him! There are those characters that just feel like they were made for you, y'know, and Wen Kexing is one of those for me. I love that he is weird and doesn't bother hiding it, that he's confidently out and will make it everyone else's problem, that he seems to choose what to say based on what would be the funniest in the moment – he is an utter delight to read. What can I say, ZZS aint the only clownsеxual around.

At the same time, I utterly adore that quietly caring side of his, one he most often shows with Zhou Zishu – all of those bringing him clothes and putting food into his bowl and treating his injuries – but not just with him. I get up into my feelings on the regular about him picking up Gu Xiang because, just, what kind of big heart does it take to have nothing, less than nothing, and to see a baby in need of care and choose to care for her – the way nobody else would, and the way nobody can care for him – all while being a pre-teen kid himself?

And then, of course, I have to jump in the opposite direction and mention that uhhh Ghost Valley Master hot 👀💦 and I'm obsеssed with the scenes where he shows just how dangerous and powerful he is. The "at the moment, nobody could tell if [his robes] were red to begin with, or if they had been dyed with fresh blood" flashback lives in my head rent-free, and so does the moment he beheads a guy with his bare hand then licks the blood off.

Another thing that makes me attached to him, tho that’s more about how he’s written rather than a quality of his, but: the way his PTSD is portrayed feels so organic to me? Because there’s this trend in media with superpowered characters where their trauma responses are portrayed through their powers, and not that I don’t love me a good power explosion / qi deviation plot, but… the way Wen Kexing, this OP Valley Master, with his unorthodox evil tricks and whatnot, whose trauma and living situation are so outlandish and unrelatable, just – y’know, dissociates, like a regular person, when remembering traumatic experiences? I dunno, it simply feels very honest and connecting.

#2: Zhou Zishu. Now, I’m much less feral about Zishu, but I do greatly enjoy him.

A lot of this enjoyment comes from him being an extremely funny narrator – his scalding commentary on jianghu events sometimes feels exactly like watching a shitty movie with friends and trying to outjoke each other about everything. But another kind of joy I find in his narration is. Well. Dragging him for having a crush, really, because Zhou Zishu saw a guy, thought he was hot, and then, as soon as said guy actually flirted with him, backtracked so hard some readers ended up thinking he’s homоphоbic – this is so embarrassing I have no choice but to stan.

Though of course it’s not just them funy bits I enjoy. For one, ‘suiсidal character regains their will to live’ arcs never fail to do me in, and Zhou Zishu’s is no exception. There’s a reason I picked the “maybe because of those few noisy people by his side…” line for my anniversary art – the way TYK’s love language is ‘I will live for you’ instead of ‘I will diе for you’ is one of the biggest reasons this novel stayed with me as it did.

Though, I also have to admit that the first thing that attracted me to his character was him being a... villain-of-another-story, so to speak. He’s ruthless! He’s fuсked up! He has no regrets! This is a delicious character setting, and especially so when he’s then paired with another matched evil mastermind 👀

#3: Gu Xiang. I have debated with myself whether she and Zishu should be swapped for this list; Zishu narrowly won by virtue of being more present in the story. Gu Xiang is so friggin great though. She’s a feral lil’ gremlin with no filter who throws hands at the drop of a hat! She’s also the most reasonable in the baby squad and they all take her as their undisputed leader! She’s both ruthless and naive, both ferocious and cute, and it feels like all of those traits together would be over the top, but instead her character feels organically complex and beautifully vibrant. I also like that though she’s definitely written to be a dummy, her struggles and emotions are not devalued because of that, and are given ample space and attention. Like, she definitely acts as a silly comic relief sidekick sometimes! But she’s still a person, with feelings that run as deep as anyone else’s. That’s some good writing right there!

#4: Liu Qianqiao – bet this one is unexpected compared to the rest, but I love her! Most of TYK’s antagonists are pretty simplistic (which kind of makes sense since the compelling villains were recruited as main characters), but LQQ is an exception: she’s just as interesting as our MCs, and her story is no less touching than, say, Ye Baiyi’s and Jing Beiyuan’s. Ngl, while I understand why she couldn’t survive in TYK, I would still love to read a novel about her… where she would be able to let go of her shitty man, reconcile her self-esteem issues, and have a happy ending… sigh...

Annnd last but not least #5: Zhang Chengling, who grew on me a lot over time! Not that I didn’t like the cute baby before, but only after figuring out his arc did I hit the real ZCL appreciation hours. (Ok, that and noticing his incredible roasting skills.) The other thing that regularly kicks me in the heart is how his martial arts style is a patchwork mess of ZZS’s and WKX’s styles, but it is still effective and keeps him safe, and just. ugh. theyre parents your honor! And something that I’ve been thinking about recently: we are all surely appreciating ZCL as a cinnamon roll, but are we appreciating that he has potential to be just as insane and feral as WenZhou? Are we appreciating that out of 3 times they left him on his own after adopting him, two of those times he murdered someone and the remaining one, participated in reverse kidnаpping? Are we understanding that if WenZhou didn’t do their dаmndest to prevent it, he absolutely had the potential to grow up into the kind of person exactly like them?.. Because I think that’s an excellent character flavor. He isn’t a good & pure baby just because he couldn’t be anything else; instead, it’s because he was cared for and loved when he needed it.

That’s for characters. Now, the scenes… honestly, I’d probably quote half the novel back at you given the chance; I barely trimmed this list to 5, and even that left some of my beloveds standing outside the door TT

Okay, so perhaps predictably: #1: wrist biting scene. I have said before and will say again that this one altered something in my brain permanently – I don’t know what part of me did it speak to, but… Aaanyway, I already wrote a big meta about everything that drives me insane about this one, so let’s move on.

#2: “are you truly sincere..?” scene. HUGE oh moment on my first read, when Zhou Zishu’s whole deal finally fully clicked for me, but this scene truly keeps on giving whenever I reread. It has everything, Wen Kexing dissociating mid-conversation, his inability to articulate what he truly wants to say, then Zhou Zishu popping this question and Wen Kexing’s “can’t you tell..?” and Zhou Zishu… baring his vulnerable underbelly with “I have not encountered many cases of sincerity in my life, and cannot identify it” – at the same time, the fact that he already trusts Wen Kexing enough to take his word for it! That when Wen Kexing says “I am”, Zhou Zishu is able to accept it!!! ...as you can probably tell, this scene still drives me insane.

To switch up a bit and let the feral romantic in me take a break, next is my favorite bit of a clown circus: #3: the original ‘husband and wife’ rp. I remember this one pretty much line for line and sometimes quote it to myself, and it never fails to put a smile on my face. “I want a divorce…” Theyre so fuсking ridiculous, I can’t stand them!!(utmostly affectionate)

And now, to the one that excavated my bones with a spoon! #4: “why couldn’t I live?”

Like his life depended on it, Wen Kexing clenched his jaw, grabbed his hand, and forcibly propped himself up. “Live… why wouldn’t I want to live? Why couldn’t I live?! All those shameless, vile people of the world get to live, so why… why can’t I…? I have to…” (tl chichi)

Aside from it hitting close to home with that ‘survive out of spite’ energy, this moment brings forth if not the core of Wen Kexing’s character, then some large part of it for sure. These lines, you see, could be spoken by the Valley Master Wen Kexing – if the rest of the shameless and vile people can live, then the Ghost Valley Master can too – but just as well could be spoken by the nine-year-old Wen Kexing: if those vile people can live, then why he, an innocent person who’d done no wrong, can not? In this moment, these seemingly incompatible aspects of him are fully reconciled: all he wanted was to live. That is the part that remained unchanged. And now, he gets to.

The last spot, I’ve decided, goes to a scene that I think most represents the subtle and delicious kind of heartache TYK excels at bringing out. #5: “as long as your affection for me is as mine for you...”

This scene utterly destroys me. The romance! The tragedy! The fleetingness! And the whole meaning is masterfully conveyed without a single line of dialogue, just by their hands. Zhou Zishu acknowledging Wen Kexing’s feelings and his own reciprocation, but then letting go – because, standing on death’s doorstep as he is, he doesn’t feel he can truly answer Wen Kexing’s affection as it deserves to be answered. And then, the too-soon gone warmth in Wen Kexing’s hand – the physical echo of the phrase ‘soulmates meeting too late’…

ngl i’ve not watched WOH/SHL in a while, i’ve been planning to rewatch soon but i’ll do my best here!! let’s see how long this post gets :^)

top 5 favourite characters:

1. zhou zishu. i am so weak for zhang zhehan and his pretty face and his glorious side profile and all the little details that he put into this character. his slow smiles of wonderment as he’s falling in love. god. i’ll admit, it took me a while to like him as much as i liked wen kexing, but ultimately zzs is THE backbone of the show, it’s his story of finding love, regaining the desire to live, and finding meaning in having someone that you want to spend your life with. after reading qi ye i also appreciate zzs’s backstory more and i’m rooting for him!!! to find love and be free from the world of politics and corruption!!!

2. wen kexing. MY BOY HE WAS MY FAVE THE MOMENT HE STEPPED OUT ON SCREEN. ok ngl rewatching is kinda hard bc i keep noticing all the ways gong jun is a less experienced actor, but god when i first saw him. i thought he was SO beautiful it was such a perfect casting. i love his stupid pretentious flirting and his corny attitude and his fake fake smiles that only barely hide his feelings. the way he simply does not process emotions. what a ridiculous man. i want 20 of him

3. ye baiyi YOOOOOOO INSTANT CLASSIC. BEST CHARACTER EVER WRITTEN FOR TELEVISION. seriously though i am obsessed with this horrible little man??? the important thing to understand, ye baiyi in the novel is an 80 year old man stuck in a 20 year old body. that’s funny on its own, but ye baiyi in the show is a 20 year old guy who has lived for 80 years. imaging being gay and in your twenties forever. fuck. i too would be petty, exhausted, constantly pissed, and constantly roasting the shit out of baby gays. he’s just so funny oh my god. what a legend

4. gu xiang. my girlbossssssss i am very partial to the colour purple and so she gets points for that. also i love her outfits. i love that zhou ye added so much more dimension to ah xiang in her portrayal. gu xiang is someone who grew up around trauma and violence, yet she chooses to be good and kind and optimistic in her own way. i love the sibling/master dynamic with wkx, her relationships with the other members of ghost valley, her entire romance with cao weining. god that romance—the awful vulnerability of that scene when he saw her kill the beggar (who turned out to be an assassin). the fear of showing someone what you had to become to survive. you’re not proud of it, but you’re not the least bit ashamed, and yet it’s terrifying that they could reject you for it. god. god. god. they. her. ahuggh

5. gao xiaolian. maybe a surprising one but this girl just stuck in my head so much. this show really did so well with its women??? gao xiaolian initially exemplifies a sort of “ideal” weak, pure, feminine stereotype, a first in contrast to the many dangerous and colourful women of ghost valley and the scorpions. and yet her strength stands out immediately — her care for her father, her sense of duty, her no-nonsense approach to things. she’s remarkably clearheaded, and i love that she chose mercy over revenge in the end; it’s not necessarily what the show agrees is right, but because it’s her stance. and she’s sticking to it.

honorarable mentions: shen shen, xie’er, chengling, jby and wu xi because i’m BIASED, also helian yi deserved better <3

top 3 scenes:

1. wenzhou saying each other’s names three times — will anything ever match this moment. i still get chills thinking about that scene holy shit. i watch it over and over it haunts my dreams how could they even come up with this scene let alone film it and show it to the world. something shl drives home is the simplicity of real happiness (“only when i met you did i discover what a simple thing it is to be happy” screaming crying choking) and this scene says it all. “to be able to sit here, in the daylight. have someone call my name like that. that would be good.” and zzh’s line delivery. drives me nuts

2. the confrontation with ye baiyi. another iconic scene for the ages. the way they had the exact same plan because they’re zhiji. the way wen kexing runs because he’s feeling too much and he’s scared. this scene is zhou zishu grabbing him by the shoulders and saying—it doesn’t matter to me. it doesn’t matter. i knew all along and i loved you anyway. i love you and i am with you; your fate will be my fate now. my favourite thing about the scene has to be after the confrontation, when the tension is gone. and they go right back to bickering and teasing each other. zhou zishus exasperated “what do you think i was gonna do”. the bitching and complaining. yeah i’d die with u. but i’m gonna remind u that you’re a lotta work. chefs kiss perfection

3. gu xiang going apeshit after cao weinings death. zhou ye’s florence pugh Acting moment. god. so good. holy shit. u simply don’t get that in historical dramas especially from female characters. jesus fucking christ holy shit. i was sobbing. the grief and shock and rage and outrage; like, she loved cao weining and cao weining was such a good boy, but it just boils down to. how could they do that??? how could they just do that???? they just came in and destroyed something that was good, that was their plan all along and that’s it and his life is just over and now there’s just nothing???? and gu xiang just rages and rages and it’s about revenge but it’s barely even about that, she doesn’t even get to make the murderer pay, it’s just lashing out against the absolute senseless violence that just happened here. catharsis, my literature teacher might say. oh god i am tearing up

honourable mention: that scene where wen kexing goes apeshit and monologues over someone’s grave. i cannot for the life of me remember when that happened but i remember watching that when the episodes were coming out and being THRILLED bc that kind of scene has to be a theatre kid’s DREAM to perform. anyway i need to rewatch shl

Why the hell would he use stress toys when he has you and your nice thighs/boobs around for when he needs it?

A bonus is that I think of Conner as someone who would love to see him smile, as if just the fact that you smile at something he said made your day better at exactly the same time.

K = Kisses (how do they like to kiss you?)

As we all know, this boy's strength is thunderous and he has to make violent efforts with his body daily in the fight against crime, for this reason he would choose to hold her with the greatest gentleness in the world, giving her long but soft kisses.

He would definitely withdraw a few minutes before he left anywhere or when he got home, just pulling you into his lap and kissing you with total devotion. He would have some silly hands too, but you know what Conner is like, don't you?

Anyway, he would use kisses as a sweet way to show his love since words are not so easy for the boy. Blame CADMUS for not teaching the poor bean to express himself correctly when it comes to feelings.

His car ended up sliding around a dangerous curve in the direction of the opposite traffic road, and as it always got worse, it was night and the only thing he could see was a truck honking because it was speeding towards him. Obviously you thought you were going to die, but a boy in a T-shirt with the House of El logo and a leather jacket lifted his car just in time for everything to go wrong.

That night, in addition to getting a ride with Superboy, you met the love of your life. It's funny to think that this is both the worst and the best memory of the two of you together.

P = Pet Names (what do they like to call you?)

I can't see him using pet names, if not to tease her. Something like when Tim came to visit them and Kon made a point of calling her a different nickname every minute:

"Sweetie, could you get us some water if you're not busy?"

"You know Timmy...my princess also understands about this matter."

"I really think you are the most beautiful doll I've ever seen in this world."

"We already understand that you love to embarrass her, Conner."

"Shut up Timothy, let me pamper my little angel."

Oh shit...yeah, but I also think he would eventually grow fond of the nickname "Princess", using it whenever he can just out of habit. You don't really care.

V = Vaunt (what are they proud of? Do they like to show you off?)

He is certainly a born flirt, after all the boy knew how to take advantage of the beauty he was given. But instead of talking about himself in conversation (which everyone always thinks will happen), he doesn't shut the fuck up for a goddam second about his girlfriend.

"Oh, Y/N is just the best thing in my life."

"Yeah, I date the most badass girl ever."

If you were studying, certainly any time you get good grades, he will be extremely happy and will not stop babbling about how smart your loved one is. Lowkey Tim and Dick think it's cute but can't stand to hear his name in conversation anymore.

He'll really love it if you talk about him too, but he'll be smug as hell when that happens.

Do not light the flame of Conner's self-centeredness, for the sanity of those who live with the boy.
