romance of the three kingdoms FURRY EDITION! (Part 1)
I was listening to the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack and got inspired by their amazing animal designs. ok i gotta explain liu bei's design. the obvious choice is to make him a dog because of his loyalty to his sworn brothers, but i think he's much closer to a tenacious, wily hare who manages escape every encounter by whisker, and thrive in a dangerous world surrounded by much stronger opponents.

Just here to rant about Frank Zhang’s Chinese name.
So as we know from Frank’s grandmother, his Chinese name is “Zhang Fei”, which is most likely “張飛” or “张飞” (its just the difference between Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese).
Do you know who is also called this name? This guy who died in 221AD and plays a pretty important part in Chinese history.
Tumblr media
(Ask any Chinese kid and they’ll know him)
According to Wikipedia “Zhang Fei, courtesy name Yide, was a Chinese military general and politician serving under the warlord Liu Bei in the late Eastern Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period of China.”
So military general. Frank’s mom was a military general and his dad is Mars. Uncle Rick definitely knew what he was doing hiding this Easter egg in the books. Zhang Fei isa military legend and Frank getting the blessing of Mars and becoming the Praetor so that Chinese name was near perfect for him.
Also, we know that Frank’s originated from China so Frank could be the descendants of Zhang Fei. I know China’s large and the possibility is small and I am being delusional but if Uncle Rick thought of this, this would be soooo fudging cool.
And that’s it :)

I know this translation is anachronistic but it’s one of my favorite translations of the Peach Garden Oath dynamic.

That day, when the troops returned to camp, Zhang Fei sat in his tent stamping his foot with rage and execrating his enemies. "The old fool! Assuredly I shall die of disappointed wrath!" cried he.

Zhang Fei's actor Li Jingfei, of the 1994 Three Kingdoms, has passed away on on November 24.
One of the talented people who delivered the Three Kingdoms successfully to live-action, his ferocity and attitude defined the character for a generation.
May he Rest in Peace and reunite his brother.

RAVAGES ANIMATED ADAPTATION OUT NOW (first episode freely available, bilibili members/subscribers get early access to the second episode and hopefully those other anime sites post them soon complete with english subtitles)
so far it seems episode 1 covers the stuff in chapters 1, 3, and 4 (the dream intro and the assassination of Xu Lin), and perhaps episode 2 might have the brief setting exposition featured in chapter 2

What do you currently think of Zhang Fei? Do you still view him negatively?
I mostly agree with Chen Shou's assessment.
Guān Yǔ and Zhāng Fēi both were praised as a match for ten thousand men, were the era’s tiger ministers. Yǔ repaid with service to Excellency Cáo, Fēi righteously released Yán Yán, both having a state elite’s manner. However Yǔ was stubborn and self boastful, Fēi was violent and without kindness; by shortcomings obtaining destruction, is a constantly repeated principle.

Liu Bei’s Army
A gathering of itinerant warriors, scholars and oddballs who flock to the mysterious Han loyalist roaming across the land, gathering support against Cao Cao. Liu Bei is quite the enigma and despite officially holding no land, rank or title, his charisma is quite resounding and he emerges wherever Cao Cao’s influence wavers with legions at his back.

Actually what I specifically asked it was ( Make AI art of Mickey Mouse as Liu Bei Donald Duck as Zhang Fei and Goofy as Guan Yu.) I do say it seems goofy got the combination the best I think Mickey is wearing a outfit usually contributed to Cao Cao who apparently wore a red clove in the Romance of the 3kingdoms novel and Total War.
