How I do the pharmacy is really interesting. It’s really one of the only medical places l can do really independently. My parents sit in the car and sometimes my sister comes in with me if I really need it, but the pharmacists know me and are really helpful and try and make it as independent for me as possible.

I go in, and proloquo4text has the option of enlarging my text. I usually do it on my phone because it’s easier than the large tablet I carry around! So I put down my name and date of birth and hand them my phone. They take my phone, put in my name and date of birth into the system. They pull up my name and give me my meds. I’ve never had an issue. My medication is always sorted out and everything, sometimes it’s messed up a little? But then my mom calls and gets it figured out.

They give me my medication and that’s that! I pay with my parents card if there’s any co-pays and I go on with my day. It’s super easy and I can do it independently! My mom looks over what I got and that’s it!

It’s just a really unique experience and very easy for me. I love how the people around me make things as easy as possible for me and try and make it smooth for me.

Actively seeing my joints rapidly get worse is actually terrifying, I woke up before work after a nap and my legs feel like they are just like, there? idk it just feels like my knees aren’t like really attached to my legs and like my legs are very loose below my knees, almost like they’re just hanging there, an I can still walk and move them, it’s just very weird and uncomfortable, and very slow in comparison to how fast I’m telling my body to move.

Hello there, sorry for the late response. I couldn't see your ask on my phone for some reason which is the main thing i use. I'm 99% sure what happened is that you followed my adult blog. Since you don't have your age in your bio, i usually block blogs that don't have an age in their bio on my adult blog. However, i learned recently that you can't just block people on your side blog on mobile tumblr. It blocks them from your main blog as well. Sorry for the confusion and I've unblocked you!

Hey quick question... When people say "you're too young to have to deal with this" like... Wtf does that mean?? It's not like I asked for this???? Like sure in theory I shouldn't have to, but it doesn't change the fact that I do, and have always had to deal with this level of tough, traumatic shit.

Like, I shouldn't have had to tell the police not to arrest my idiot father for neglect when I was 3-years-old either, but it doesn't change the fact that I did.

hey do you have any resources for understanding the words for different types of speaking? nonverbal, semiverbal etc-type things.

am struggling a lot with words but dont have access really to community about these things to learn from.

Hello! I’m don’t have any specific resources, but I can just tell you because I know lol. Anyways! Here’s a list of verbality terms and what they mean!

Nonverbal/nonspeaking: A term to describe people who can’t speak at all or who can speak VERY little. Permanently.

Minimally verbal: A term to describe people who can only speak 20,30,50 words (very debated on the exact number). Permanently.

Semiverbal: A term to describe people who struggles greatly to communicate or has a limited vocabulary. Permanently.

Demiverbal: A term to describe people who are in between semiverbal and fully verbal. Who don’t quite feel they’re semiverbal and don’t quite feel they’re verbal. Permanently.

Verbal: A term to describe someone who has a normal range of speech.

Hyperverbal: A term to describe someone who has an extreme vocabulary and talks more than the average person.

I think people have greatly watered down autism into this silly label or identity that they can collect.

I’ve seen multiple posts that defend that autism should be an identity, similar to how sexualities and gender labels are. I think they’re missing multiple things with this analogy. First, you cannot help your queerness. It’s not simply a “label” it’s your whole being. It’s who you are.

I want people to realize that autism is a serious disorder for over half of people diagnosed with autism. From more then 30% being higher support needs, to more than that having different comorbidities, it’s a serious disorder. Not only can it affect every aspect of your life, it can severely affect how your health is, how independent you are, etc.

To a lot of people autism isn’t “a silly label” it’s a disorder. A disorder that comes with comorbities, that affects how they speak or don’t speak, how they view the world, how the process or dont process things, etc.

Higher support needs people need to be recognized, and in turn you have to recognize the disorders that they have. You can’t ignore them. You can’t simply shrug it off as a silly little label or identity.

People deserve to have their life altering disorders taken seriously and not turned into something that’s shrugged off and seen as another add in the newspaper. Autism is serious. It’s a neurodevelopmental disorder. Say what it is. Don’t water it down.

That’s all.

AFAB autism isn’t a thing. You’re either high masking or you’re not. You’re either autistic or you’re not. There’s no AFAB and AMAB autism. Stop it. You sound dumb.

I get it, AFAB people are DRASTICALLY underdiagnosed due to the social standards that they are held up to so they mask more. Not to mention that the majority of autism research is done on white boys.

However, that doesn’t give you the excuse to use AFAB autism. IT. ISNT. A. THING.

Instead, use terms such as “autism in AFAB” “how autism affects AFAB” “AFAB and their experiences with autism” etc etc. not “AFAB autism” isn’t a thing. Never will be.

Hearing constantly about gifted autistic kids and people seeing it as THEE autistic trait has completely disregarded those who aren’t gifted and made a HUGE divide in the community. Seeing constantly “yeah autistic people are usually gifted” is so annoying because a VERY large chunk of autistic people, aren’t actually gifted and media has just put the gifted people at the front because they’re more palatable. The “autistic gifted kid burnout” has become more so a trend than anything and I’ve seen a lot of people assume they’re autistic because they are the “gifted kid burnout person” when that isn’t even a requirement for an autism diagnosis. You don’t have to be gifted to be autistic. You don’t have to be!!

Start putting the people who struggle more in the spotlight. Those with intellectual disabilities, those with learning disabilities, those with cognitive disabilities, those who are just generally stereotypically “dumb” and embrace it!

We need to have a very big discussion about this as a community and it needs to start today.
