Hey, I came from your post about Night. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while now, but I’ve heard that the English version is very watered down and stripped of the original emotions that are in the Yiddish version. Do you know if there are any more accurate English translations, or if the Hebrew one is more like the original? Sorry if you’re not the right person to ask about this, you just seem quite knowledgeable
(also coming from my vent account so I don’t get any hate on main for being a Jew lol)
No worries at all, @nonbinary-vents:
I want to be clear about something: My post was aimed at goyim.
You are a Jewish person, and reading this book (especially if you haven't read any other accounts of experiences in concentration camps) may be an important thing for you to do. And I'd cautiously encourage you to do so if you feel emotionally stable. But you do not need to worry about the experience of this book feeling watered down.
If you are Jewish and not in a very stable emotional state, do not read this book. Do not cause yourself harm.
(If you are goyiscshe, you should challenge yourself and force yourself to read this book. Obviously if you are in an actual emotional/psychological crisis or dealing with the death or illness of a loved one, then you are the only goyim who has an excuse not to read this book. No matter who you are, do not read this book if it will cause you actual mental harm or drive you to somehow cause yourself physical harm. But if it will make you upset, depressed, panicked at your own failings, or other extremely unpleasant but ultimately human discomfort, then you should read this book. Jews don't get a choice about knowing this shit, because knowing this shit is how we survive. And you NOT knowing this shit is what makes it so easy for you to dismiss and target us over and over and over again. You should be uncomfortable. You should feel guilty. Because unless you're actively learning how to disentangle yourself from the antisemitism that led to The Holocaust, then you are actively participating in thee fomentation of another. And that should horrify you.)
Sure, I bet this book is even more haunting and visceral in the original Yiddish. I've spoken recently about how hard Jewish language is to translate to English.
But there is no world in which this book will feel watered down to you.
@nonbinary-vents This book will haunt you. This book will change you. This book will challenge your faith and your ability to trust people.
Remember going in that Judaism asks us not to separate ourselves from our community--not just our Jewish community, but any community in which we find ourselves. Resist the urge this book may stir within you to become insular and fearful of goyim. That is not our way. We are a part of the communities and cultures and nations in which we find ourselves. And we must do good for those communities, because that is what we are called to do. The lesson of this book for Jews is different than the lesson of this book for goyim.
The lesson of this book for Jews -- in fact, the lesson of "Never Again" for Jews -- is that we cannot ever allow this to happen to ourselves again. No, of course, I am not blaming Jews for the Holocaust and if anyone thinks that's what I'm arguing here, then they can fuck off.
The lesson of this book for Jews is that we must never again let fear hold us back from fighting for ourselves. If he world calls upon us to die, we must refuse. Refuse to put ourselves on a list. Refuse to follow our oppressors' directions to the ghetto. Refusal to get on the train or to enter the gas chamber. And we must refuse to be silent for other people's comfort. While it is a Jewish imperative to believe that every human being is capable of kindness and has inherent goodness within them, we can never again trust that the kindness and goodness they possess will ever be directed at us. There was the very understandable thought back when this all started that if we just complied--if we were just willing to suffer a little bit by moving to the ghettos or registering on the lists of Jews the Nazis demanded or carried our papers with us at all time and wore our stars just as they said --then they would eventually realize we were good citizens. They would eventually realize we were just people like them doing their best to live quiet lives and follow the rules. People believed that, if we just complied, they'd remember their humanity and our own. If we just complied and let ourselves suffer, hen maybe our friends and loved one would be safe.
But that was a lie we told ourselves.
No amount of compliance or agree-ability or self-sacrifice will ever make someone who sees Jews as evil and subhuman realize that Jews are actually just human beings like everyone else. Compliance will never ensure our safety; it will just make us easier to kill. Compliance won't make antisemites see us as human; it will only ever make them see us -- at best -- as agreeable livestock.
(although I doubt any farmer would treat their animals as cruelly as Nazis and their supporters treated us).
I am not advocating for violence. But I advocating for discomfort and defense. That is why I am on here every day writing the things I write. I will not shut up for the comfort of people who don't care about my life or my safety. And neither should you. Neither should any of us. I will not allow antisemites to co-opt our own tragedies to demonize us further while casting themselves as warriors for justice.
No, we should not take to the streets and start harming goyim. But if the day comes that they once again start to round us up, I for one will tear those Nazis a-fucking-part with my bare hands. And if they live to have children and grandchildren of their own, they will have to explain to their children and grandchildren that they got the scars on their face and the missing eyeball because the Jew they were trying to murder wouldn't submit quietly.
And if this seems like a hyperbolic and absurd hypothetical to anyone reading this? Well, yeah. It seemed like one back then, too.
(And if any goyim chose to read "Night" by Elie Wiesel because of my post, please tell me. Please engage. I cannot be emphatic enough about this. If you are willing to read night in the way I asked of you in my post, then please do reach out to me with your experience and thoughts. Because that's the whole point. Jews need you to listen and engage with us about our own suffering. We need you to consider your impact on us and to not run away from that guilt or from us. If any of you are willing to read this book in the way that I have asked of you, please please please don't keep your experience to yourself. A lot of Jews desperately need to see goysiche growth in understanding antisemitism and its affects. I don't think you can even imagine how scared and lonely we are right now)

A/N: I will say what I said on AO3: I have commintment issues so this might or might not have a sequel. Also, it’s a mess because I can’t think straight with this man there. Enjoy your filth!
Tumblr media
The Mandalorian was freezing the new bounty you captured in carbonite. At the same time, you were sitting on your bunk taking off your armour piece by piece. That fugitive cut you on your forearm and you had to clean the wound. It wasn’t too deep, but you’d rather not run the risks of infection.
It hadn’t taken long to capture the asset. After all, it was an easy mission. He had stolen something valuable from someone who had enough money to pay the guild, or so said Karga. He wasn’t expecting either of you. In fact, he was taking part in the usual activities of a brothel when you captured him. The Mandalorian wanted to wait until he exited the building to trap him, but you pointed out it was starting to snow and that the chance of losing him in the chase was big. After all, storms were common in that planet, and the city had a lot of tunnels and bunkers. He trusted your gut, and you had him in cuffs right away.
Everything ran smoothly, except for the hidden knife in his calf. You had to admit it: you were distracted since you entered the building, thinking about Mando and the place you were in. You just couldn’t get him out of your head. The cut was barely a scratch, you’d had it far worse. Still Mando broke his nose as soon as he immobilized the man, “to make sure he stops resisting”, but you knew better.
You had been working together for a while, but in the recent missions his behaviour was slightly different. He liked you better than any of other members of the guild: you were efficient and didn’t ask many questions. But of course, you didn’t lie to yourself and accepted the fact that he sought your help because the job got done quicker when there were two hunters. However, you couldn’t repress the feeling of a growing affinity between both of you. He’d chat from time to time. He’d let you roam the ship with no surveillance. And he’d been very protective when your life was in danger. You were worried. And so was he, but you couldn’t have known that.
“Why do we always have to use your ship?” You wondered out loud as you tried to shoo away your fears. You took off the heavier layers covering your body, leaving yourself in a mere tank top that displayed the cut along with some dark bruises. The hissing of the carbonite machine subsided, and he walked to his particular armoury. You watched the way he moved, his impressive presence invading all your senses to the point you almost forgot what you were doing.
“Your flying skills are disastrous.” His voice was distant, as he was putting away all his blasters and various weapons. You huffed. Your flying skills had saved him once.
The snow had become a dangerous blizzard and the Razor Crest was shaking. You could hear the metallic tingling from almost all the tortured pieces of the ship. Yet despite the weather outside, you felt a strange warmth surrounding you.
“Isn’t the air too stuffy in here? I thought an ice planet was supposed to be cold.” He didn’t answer. You wished you could take off your mask, but it had to stay on for completely different reasons than Mando’s, after all it was the only way to ensure your safety.
He turned around and faced you. You can’t deny it, he is imposing, plain and simple. But it never was a problem before. Your breath was becoming shallow. As he was moving closer, you noticed he had removed his cape and his chest plate. He took your arm in his gloved hand as he observed the clean cut intently. The skin under the leather of his glove was burning and a sudden want hit you. You were confused by the explicit thoughts clouding your judgement.
It’s not that you never had any fantasy of him. You had. But usually they happened later, when you had your eyes closed and all the time you wanted to distract yourself. But in that moment, all you could concentrate on was the need to have his bare skin touching you.
Then, he covered your wound with a bandage. But he didn’t let your arm go from his grip.
“You are sweating” He simply stated. You frowned. “Does your chest feel heavy?”
“Yes, Mando. So do my arms and legs.” You sighed. “I guess I’m just tired.”
“No.”
You could hear his deep breaths through the modulator. The grasp of his fingers was stronger than before. He came closer to you, until your legs were grazing his. His broad chest went up and down slowly. Could he possibly feel it too?
All of a sudden, a gust of wind collided with the side of the ship. The Mandalorian lost his balance and fell, dragging you in the process. You landed over him. You head nested in his clavicle, his knee opening your legs. One of his arms is wrapped around your waist.  as he caught you in a reflex action. You raise your head and your mask hits in his helmet. He tightens his already firm grip on you, squeezing your breasts against him. He surely was seeing your cleavage at this point. On the other hand, you can’t help but squirm, because it seemed that your body pressed against his was the most delightful contact you’d ever had. There was no way he wasn’t feeling everything you felt.
“I think we’ve been drugged.” His voice was a mere whisper.
“In the brothel?” He nodded. Well, that made sense.
“I thought it was just a hormone concoction they put in the air to increase their earnings… but it seems stronger than I anticipated.”
“I’m sorry.” You said with a pang of guilt. “This wouldn’t have happened if-”
“Shut up.” You blinked in surprise – not that he could see it – because you had forgotten he could be that blunt. “I’m sorry… Listen, it’s just… I don’t like this.”
Of course he didn’t. He had been struggling lately to conceal the torrent of emotions that was destroying him inside. And he managed to do so, even though there were some mistakes. Like when he stared at you longer than necessary when you shot your blaster. Or when he overprotected you from time to time.
“I should get up.”
You tried to raise yourself to no avail. He was not letting you go. You cursed. Just when you think you know this man, he finds new ways to amaze you. His muscles became tense when he realised what he was doing. The friction between the two of you increases the temperature of your skin even more.
“Please. Don’t go.” There’s a need within you that’s consuming. You dig your fingers in the flesh of his shoulder. “Now that I got you in my arms… I can’t let you go.”
“This is totally unprofessional.” You teased, but let your hand roam his clothed chest. This was a total mess.
“And unpractical.” He added.
“You are lucky it’s me and not other member of the guild, you know?” His gloved hands found their way under your top, caressing their way timidly.
“Listen…” He managed to say despite the drug overshadowing his senses. He tried to set rules, to have any sense of control. “Once this situation ends, we will pretend it never happened.”
You were disappointed, it was inevitable. But you understood. Life as a bounty hunter was hard; life was generally hard. You understood he didn’t want any strong attachment. It would just endanger your missions and both of you. You didn’t know what you were expecting. Still, it hurt. And you couldn’t distanc from him a single centimetre, because you were pulled to him by the dirty lust that was burning you down. You were going to take whatever he had to offer, and you’d take it without a doubt.
“We don’t have to fuck if you don’t want. It will hurt but we won’t die.” He said when you didn’t answer. Was it worry disguised as apathy in his voice? But how could you say no when the honey was so close to your lips?
“It’s not that I don’t want to… I was just… thinking.”
“About what?” He was afraid of both your agreement and disagreement.
“It doesn’t work like that and you know it. If we do this we’ll have to part ways.”
“It was going to happen soon or later.” As he spoke, your heart broke a little. He was right. So why not leave with a good memory?
“Do you often…?” You didn’t know how to finish the question. You were curious. You didn’t know how you were going to do anything with all his creed.
“Does it matter?”
“Not really.”
Then, another gust of wind must have almost knocked down the Razor Crest, because you and Mando were thrown against the metal wall. the lights flickered. You then sat, using that opportunity to separate yourself, even though it didn’t calm you at all. He stood up, and his helmet tilted like he was thinking.
“Go to the bunk. I’m going to turn the lights off.”
“What for?” You frowned, confused.
“So I can… take the helmet off. And that horrible mask of yours too.”
“As if your helmet is better.” It was. At least it protected his head, but you didn’t find anything better to cover your face in the scrapyard. And you definitely were not wearing a helmet of an Imp. “If you see me, I’d have to kill you.” You reminded him as a joke. Because even if you tried to kill him, you’d likely turn out to be the one killed.
“Go to the bunk.”
He disappeared into the cockpit.
He had a point. It was pitch black in the ship without any light.
You walked to the bunk he used to sleep. It was uncomfortable – in fact, you preferred to sleep in the seats back in the cockpit –, but it would do. Your legs were shaking in anticipation. The sensation in your lower abdomen burnt, and the air seemed scorching. Your desire was starting to hurt more and more. Your feet felt light, numb, while your head was dizzy.
The lights were turned off. You couldn’t see a thing. The Mandalorian appeared soon after, his boots jangled against the bars of the ladder.
He moved in the darkness like a predator in search of his prey, silent, stealthy. His footsteps were light, which meant he had taken off his gear. You didn’t realise he was right in front of you until he touched your neck with his bare hands.
You lifted your arms and grabbed the base of the beskar helmet.
“Can I take it off?”
There was a pause. He was mulling over the question, the implications. He was confident when it was all in his imaginations, he had pictured this moment a lot of times. He didn’t want to say no.
“Yes.” You didn’t waste any more time and discarded it on the side. Next, you took off your own mask.
It hadn’t even fallen to the floor when he pressed you against the wall next to the bunk and touched your face. His palms and fingers felt your cheeks and your mouth. You smiled and touched him back. The fuzz on his chin, the thin hair on his head, his neck, his ears, his lips. It was as if you were trying to portrait him without your eyes, but you just were trying to see what he’d do, you were scared to ruin the situation and the only thing you had the guts to do was imitating him. So you waited and entertained yourself with the lines of his face. He seemed to enjoy it, his breathes deeper and longer.
“They were just a few here and there.” You didn’t know what he was talking about. “And never without the helmet… Never like this.” You realised he was answering to you question before, whether he did have sex often. “Happy?”
“You could say so.” You felt flattered, but you wouldn’t admit that to him. “You could kiss me now, your know?”
He complied quickly.
His lips were all over yours, soft compared to the coarse fuzz around them. It was a desperate kiss, almost animalistic. Now that it was just you and him, no helmet or mask between you, it felt intimate, passionate, vulnerable. It was a dream made of glass. Without your sight, your other senses were overwhelmed. He let his hands roam your sides as he dangerously approached your breasts. You also could smell him. He smelled like sweat and dirt, for you just came back from the mission, but you didn’t care, it just turned you on more when you remembered the way he carries himself in front of an objective, the way he threatens them…
The Mandalorian bit your lip to beg you for entrance. He was being burnt out by his lust too; by your scene, by your skin, your hair, your mouth. You opened your lips and let your tongue wander. And, by the stars, he tasted heavenly. You wondered how he’d taste elsewhere. You didn’t know if all these sensations were product of the drug, but they felt better than any fantasy. He was overwhelming.
He couldn’t get enough of you. Every brush of your lips made him lose his mind a little bit more. It was something he had never experienced before.
He lifted you off the ground, turned around and sat on the bunk, making you sit on his lap. You immediately felt his erection.
“Take off your shirt.” You ordered.
When his toned torso was naked, you bit the flesh between his neck and shoulder. And he moaned loudly. You kept going, tasting his skin. He held onto your bottom and you moved your hips, grinding your centre with his. As you were back to kissing his lips, you used your nails to scratch his chest. He tensed underneath you.
The Mandalorian loved everything you had to offer. He wouldn’t stop touching, feeling you up and down. He was hungry. Both of you had almost forgotten how you got there in the first place.
“I see you are excited.” You giggled as you rolled your hips.
“Don’t tease me.” He grunted, and he grabbed your cheeks and led you back to his mouth. You started to undo your pants and his. He let you free while you discarded your clothes.
“I like your voice without the modulator.”
Again, he caught you off guard and laid you horizontally. He trapped you with his body. you could feel his manhood on your leg, so close yet so far. His hot breath on your ear.
“Have you ever thought of this before?” He sounded husky. He was trying to tease you too.
“Yes. At night, Mando, I often dream of you all over me the way you are right now.” You took him in your hand. Why were you even telling him that? There was something twisted in working the Mandalorian up, but he liked it, by the sounds he was making.
He was thick and long. You had forgotten about the drug, but another pang travelled your body, intensifying the fire in your guts.
This time you flipped him over. You placed yourself right upon him. As you straddled him, he put his hands on your hips. He reached over and kissed your bosom. He slowly covered one nipple with his lips, licking and biting in the lightest way. It was hard to believe a man like him could be so delicate, which only turned you on even more.
“How about we get to the main act?”
“Are you ready?” He asked with shameless lechery.
To answer you just guided your wetness to his erection. He straightened it. His head was going in, and you could feel the stretch. You could only feel the relief. Your walls were making room for him but contracted from time to time, and the lewd groans he let out made you forget the world. He was so lost in you, he didn’t know what to do, so he just tried to kiss you again. You let him, as you lowered in a slow pace. He was being rough now, impatient to have you all for himself, his frenzied tongue looking for something. He then met your end.
“You feel so good.” Mando struggled to pronounce the words he wanted to say. “You are wonderful… I wish I could see you… Fuck…” You loved what you were hearing. You wanted him to keep saying those things. You wanted to hear them more than only once. You bounced on his cock, first careful, then with confidence. “Yes, do that. Keep doing that.”
“Yes, Mando.” You smiled and obliged him.
He was filling you up like no one else before him. You went up and down, not too fast, as if you didn’t want to lose focus – yet you had lost it when it all started. He kissed you, you didn’t know how, but you adored how his restless mouth couldn’t be satisfied. He was an endless well and he wanted more and more and more. His hand, calloused, pressed on the lower part of your back, helping your movements. He was in and out, the pleasure expanding throughout your core.
“I love how you fill me up, Mando.”
“How so?” Apparently, you weren’t the only one who liked being praised.
“You are so big, you just hit there…” You couldn’t form anything coherent. “It’s like you were made just for me.”
It was the point of no return. He started moving his hips. Mando thrusted into you, he pinned your down so you couldn’t move. He was rough, now all teeth and heat.
“This is… so unfair.” You complained. You could faint right there. At the same time, you wanted to stop, because you had the need to make him feel good, to make him cum on your own and prove something, but he was so delicious, all the sensations so pleasant and satisfying, but you just let him continue. His pubes were grazing your clitoris, his cock was filling you nonstop, building the awaited orgasm. “Mando! I’m going to cum.”
“Where can I…?” He slowed down.
“Inside. It’s safe, I got it covered.” You smiled, and he noticed your curving lips. What he would have given to see that smile. “Even if you were trying to get me pregnant-”
Suddenly he was rigid, but he didn’t stop.
Could it be…?
“What is it, Mando? You want to put a child in me?” You didn’t know why, but that made you hornier. You blamed your drugged hormones for that.
“Shut up…” He said weakly.
“You don’t have to be ashamed. It’s natural.” He went faster. He was fucking you out of his mind. “You can cum inside my cunt, Mando. I know you want it. I know you want to get me pregnant… Just do it.”
That was the last straw. He climaxed, and his plentiful cum filled you.
“This is not ending like this.”
In a second, he had your back on the thin mattress. Two fingers went inside your cunt, he didn’t care about his seed. He was unmerciful and hectic.
“What the hell…?” You didn’t finish the sentence.
“You made me cum too soon, darling, with all your dirty talk. Now it’s your turn.” He didn’t stop his motions, accentuating his words with his movements. Soon, you were there again, riding his fingers. He lifted one of your legs, squeezing the flesh of your thigh. He knew where to touch, how deep. You wished you could see the muscles on his hand flexing...
His relentless attack was fruitful; your orgasm washed over you in no time. He could feel your wetness sliding down his forearm.
The Mandalorian laid next to you. You could barely move, but you accommodated him. He extended one arm for you to rest your head and drew your back to his chest firmly with his other arm. You were blissful like that. Yet something broke the peace.
“Mando?” You felt something wet on your neck. He didn’t answer, but by his erratic breathing, you figured he was crying. You turned around, wishing it wasn’t dark and that it wasn’t you and him, just two people who could love each other. You hugged his head and made him lean on your chest. He hugged you back.
“Mando?” You tried again. “Was it…?” Your mind was now racing, thinking what could have hurt him. “I didn’t want to be cruel, I’m really sorry-”
“No. It’s not you. You did nothing wrong.”
“What can I do to soothe you?” You lovingly stroke his hair.
You knew you couldn’t do anything. Everything you feared was happening. There was nothing either of you could do. A relationship was out of your hands. It would only endanger you. Too many risks, too many secrets. It wouldn’t work.
“I don’t want to.” He muttered. You kept moving your fingertips in circles.
“What don’t you want to?”
“I don’t want to act as if this didn’t happen. But we have to.” His grip was stronger now. “I’m afraid… this will turn out horribly for both of us.” Had it not been for the silence of the night, you wouldn’t have heard him. “We can’t work together… At least not soon. Not soon… I can’t see you get hurt and-”
“Mando, calm down.” You gulped.
“Neither of us can afford love.” He sounded mournful.
“I know. Just…” You sighed. “We won’t see each other in a while. I can make sure of it… Karga will arrange it.”
“I’m sorry.” He was starting to breathe evenly again. “I should have controlled myself and-” He interrupted himself. “Can we stay like this? Until we get back to Nevarro?”
“Yes.” It hurt. It hurt too much. But having a last moment with him was enough in your cruel circumstances. There was silence. “Mando” You called him.
“What?”
“I’m sorry I fell in love with you. But there was no way I could have prevented it.”
You stayed like that in the darkness until you fell asleep and hoped that the hour to wake up never arrived.

Class 1-A Cypher by Rustage
Lyrics below the cut
Tumblr media
Izuku Midoriya - Deku (Performed by Rustage)
Call me Deku, I’m starting out on this cypher
I was quirkless, but by working I’m deserving something higher
It’s my purpose, I’m versing my present, future, and my past
So I’m gonna rock the mic with a Detroit Smash
Taking a second, I’m breaking my limit
Hitting with everything, pain I can feel it
I’m straining my muscles, I tussle with enemies
Better be ready, I’m more than a critic
I spit it, exhibit it all night
I’m killing it, chilling with All-Might
A villain inhibited by my ability
in minutes you’re watching my school fight
Tumblr media
Fumikage Tokoyami - Tsukuyomi (Performed by Shwabadi)
When you cross this bird, you might get to see me wield the talons
So absurd how I’m applying subverse talents
Yes I’m cursed, carry a demon, I’m full of malice
Even worse for you when striking a bitter balance
Dark claws harming the vermin that are below me
Start wars, armed with determination and Oni
Get back, I’ve been endangering those who know me
Jet Black Hero, they’re calling me Tsukuyomi
Tumblr media
Ochaco Uraraka - Uravity (Performed by DaisyBanaisy)
I’ll make you float as I’m messing with zero gravity
Don’t mean to gloat when I’m calculating these strategies
Rapidly climbing casually, my quirk “lacks in lethality”
but actually your apathy will lead straight to your casualty
I’ll happily fight for justice, with all of my capacity
My motive’s money, thankfully that don’t define morality
Reality is I’m just helping others for my family
I’m saving all humanity, don’t you mess with Uravity!
Tumblr media
Tenya Iida - Ingenium (Performed by Dan Bull)
I’ve got many a twitch, that’s the Tenya itch
I’m like my test scores, I got plenty of tics
Academic, educated, but I never skip leg day
Still regretful of the day that I met Stain
Enraged, by what he did to my brother Tensei
I didn’t handle it the best way, I dare say
Left my hand damaged in remembrance of fair play
I’m representing Class 1-A, they’re my best mates
Tumblr media
Tsuyu Asui - Froppy (Performed by Sophia Dere)
Ribbit Ribbit, exhibit a hero’s spirit
I’m in it and so I’ll win it
When I’m swimming, yeah I won’t stop
This frog’s idyllic not a gimmick in a minute
I be launching in to kill it
Like a frog, I’m bringing mad hops
My tongue’s deadly, spitting and I take charge
and then I’m turning invisible with my camoflage
In the water, no villain can dare to stop me
You’re looking sloppy, now you’re facing Froppy
Tumblr media
Hanta Sero - Cellophane (Performed by VideoGameRapBattles)
Lucky 13 of the A-1 team
Kid I spit great mixtapes, stick your team
Wraps so clean,
and I’m sealing all the matches now that Cellophane will bring the pain all wrapped up in a package
Getting shipped with tons of damage, but there’s no send backs
Shut you up with my bind attacks
Get back, ‘cause you know that I’ll be winning
in this sticky situation, so I think you better stick it.
Tumblr media
Mezo Shoji - Tentacole (Performed by Dreaded Yasuke)
You can call me wall that have ears, door that have eyes
Meaning I’m cavalier when it comes to fighting just like a spy
In close combat, my dupli-arms is coming for the harm
and I’m laughing at you if you’re trying disarm
I’ll sacrifice for everybody exhausting my quirk
Even when I’m down for the count, I’m disguising my smirk
You can cut off all of my limbs, I’m still coming in a burst
Class 1-A will always come first
Tumblr media
Kyoka Jiro - Earphone Jack (Performed by Savvy Hyuga)
It’s ya edgy girl, Earphone Jack
Utilizing my quirk in both stealth and combat
I guess I can see how you think I fell flat
but lemme show you how I make up for that
with punk rock attacks
When my earlobes are growing
you know they whippin and probin
an’ now they got you tip-toeing
findin the range that my tone is
It’s not your typical motion n my moves don’t need compression
It’s just another jam session featuring my form of expression
Tumblr media
Denki Kaminari - Chargebolt (Performed by Dizzy Eight)
It’s time to put in work, I got this cypher on lock
I don’t need my quirk when this verse will leave you shocked
Like a battery, I got the juice, so they put me in a box
When my positive means negative, I’m like “so watt?”
You don’t want that static with me homie it’s fatal
I got so much energy, I’m plugged in without the cable
On the low, I’ll leave everybody on the scene disabled
I’m underrated, but in a flash, I’ll leave you endangered
Tumblr media
Shoto Todoroki - Shoto (Performed by None Like Joshua)
It’s Todoroki, I chose to be cold and lonely
Nobody can hold me with the inferno, I’m overloading
From a broken home to known hero I’m going up slowly but surely
and be better than Endeavor whether it’s hot or it’s snowing
Even if I’m behind, I’ll be sure to make Bakugo see
I do it for All of his Might or to stop killer Stain, forget any trophy
So now that you’re immobilized and then frozen in pain, no one can approach me
Put up a wall of my ice or a wall of my flames to build your enclosing
Tumblr media
Rikido Sato - Sugarman (Performed by GameboyJones)
Give me 10 grams of white, then I’m activated (um)
Wait, I’m talking ‘bout the sugar that I took
Got a sweet tooth for taking out these villains ‘cause they’re agitating
Plus the girlies like a guy that can cook
Call me Sato the Macho, I’m saving these streets
Yeah these nachos are not yours, I need me a treat
and this crime fighting’s hard work, it can leave me beat
but like candy and cakes, being me is real sweet
Tumblr media
Mina Ashido - Pinky (Performed by StarGirl)
The corrosive caped crusader, Pinky here to save the day
and end up taking center stage upon these lyrics that I lay up
Easygoing, I’m passionate in battle, I’m not passive
See it flowing I don’t spit fire, I spit acid
Hypnotic fashion sense, I leave you in a trance
I’m good at fighting, my other skills are in dance
Protect my friends, we’re going in on advance
Mina Ashido, you don’t even stand a chance
Tumblr media
Eijiro Kirishima - Red Riot (Performed by NerdOut)
Kirishima’s here, everybody stand down
I’mma activate a quirk and give your chest a hand pound
With these Red Gun Turrets yeah the target is locked
I’m a boulder with a boner, man I’m hard as a rock
I’m unbreakable, cannot penetrate this armor
and I don’t need a little blue pill to get harder
I’m full of energy, enemies looking dead tired
Blood running in the street, you can call it Red Riot
Tumblr media
Koji Koda - Anima (Performed by Connor Rapper)
I’m the quiet type, lying with the wildlife
When I’m on, you wouldn’t even need subtitle lines
Nervous around others, I’m the last one who would yell loud
But to be a hero, then I need to break the shell now
Yo it’s Koda bringing massive noise, flowing with that Ani-Voice
That timid kid with rabbit toys no longer acting coy
Drinking honey tea, facing my fear of bugs and bees
Get a bull stampeding with the words like I’m Douglby
Tumblr media
Yuga Aoyama - Can’t Stop Twinkling (Performed by Zach Boucher)
Never needed fame or money, I can get it later
Even though it hurts my tummy, when I use my navel laser
I have got finesse, snazzier than all the rest
I’m the best, nothing less
being honest, not a flex, I’m a threat
It’s getting harder to stomach, I’ve got the smarts and I love
I’m certainly perfect, it hurts just like the art of seduction
Heart of a Puma, get ready to lose
I’ll be spreading the truth
and y’all are stupid if you choose to fight against the Yuga
Tumblr media
Momo Yaoyorozu - Creati (Performed by HalaCG)
I’ve got the quirk creation and patience to work it
Balancing equations, don’t even need to research it
Sequencing elements, a testament to intelligence
You’d better watch out ‘cause I’m not feeling very benevolent
If a person’s in trouble, just wait and see what I’ll do
I can literally make anything. Overpowered, who?
Overpowered, who?
I meant I’ll overpower you
It’s true, sincerely Class 1-A’s Momo Yaoyorozu
Tumblr media
Minoru Mineta - Grape Juice (Performed by Nux Taku)
Where the ladies at? (ay)
Where the ladies at? (ay)
Mineta’s here to peek at women that I’m gazing at
People thinking that I’m weak, but you know what I say to that
Leave you in a sticky situation with my grape attacks
Underestimating me? You’re lacking information
Incapacitation, when you’re facing me, frustration
Master of flirtation, pretty much the top dog
You ain’t ever coming close when I pop off
Tumblr media
Ojiro Mashirao - Tailman (Performed by Rockit Gaming)
Ojiro, the Tailman, you get what you train for
Master martial artist, black belt on my waist though
Nobody even really understands me
Got intelligence, can’t predict any hit that I’m landing
Classmate you confide in with dignity
You can wear a costume, all I got on is a gi
Noble attitude, that’s my personality
Accept results that I earn with my own abilities
Tumblr media
Toru Hagakure - Invisible Girl (Performed by Outcast Rae)
Take you by surprise, yeah, I can do it easy
Miss me with your eyes, yeah, you can’t even see me
No matter what you try, yeah, you can never beat me
Feels a little cheesy, like a wish from a genie
When it comes to action, my quirk is in light refraction
so it has the side effect of never being a distraction
Sneak up on my enemies, let me be the best assassin
Toru Hagakure, you can feel my passion
Tumblr media
Katsuki Bakugo - Kacchan (Performed by DaddyPhatSnaps)
I don’t think you other heroes are even listenin’
Maybe I should focus your attention with some ‘glycerin
You don’t even get it, there’s really no competition
I’m lighting these rookies up, boi, I’m slaying on every mission
I’ll show them once and for all, little Deku won’t know what hit ‘im
I will get the recognition, exploding the opposition
I will be the greatest hero that ever took the position
So come at me little bitches, I’ll make you wish that you didn’t

more discussion about BnHA 237, and the “bystander effect”
Makeste, it’s been hinted for a long time now that Tomura had personally experienced the bystander effect when he was younger. When he had his little therapy talk with Midoriya at the mall he was pissed at how the people around him were just going about their lives and ignoring other people’s problems, thinking only about themselves. And when Midoriya pointed out that a hero would arrest him, he brought up that although anybody’s quirks could let them fight back and perhaps stop him, no-one would do so if he went on a rampage- their complacency and trust in hero society meant that they couldn’t conceive of such a thing happening to them, and so they would default back to letting heroes or the authorities arrive and save them, rather than saving themselves. Like sheep to a slaughter, they just couldn’t bring themselves to act, because they would rather support a peaceful society that protects them than willingly fully endanger themselves.
I actually liked that Horikoshi made it clear that some people were willing to help Tenko, so it wasn’t that Tenko coincidentally wandered into a street full of uncaring assholes, but his ghoulish appearance was a major factor in driving off the help he so desperately wanted. Just, looking at him, you can see the kid’s gone through something horrible, and if they got involved, they might have risked whatever caused it to happen to them next. They were scared of him, and didn’t want to risk getting involved in something they weren’t equipped to handle. Better to leave it to police, or authorities who have trained for similar situations and can protect themselves. Whereas the ‘defenceless’ citizen could tell at a glance that Tenko was something beyond their ordinary lifestyles, an unspoken threat to their peace and safety. Maybe some did call the police and authorities and Tenko had wandered off. But you can see why, for a society that, because of the whole ‘restrict your quirk and don’t perform heroic actions without a licence’ stuff, has been taught that they’re supposed to act normal and not get involved in dangerous situations or criminal activity, helping Tenko was too personally involving for those citizens.
You also got a hint of that when Tomura was restrained at the bar- the flashback’s words even spell out that “before long a hero will…everyone said things like that, but they all ignored you, didn’t they?” Maybe AFO had a hand in helping Tenko get isolated here. He could have had a subtle quirk that manipulated their emotions and fears to drive them to ignore Tenko, or he could have simply just used his connections to stifle any calls or reports of Tenko’s appearance to the proper authorities, and left him in the ‘care’ of the nearby public. Personally, my money’s on the latter. Either way, his appearance here definitely rings too good to be true- he was probably shadowing Tenko whilst he walked through the streets- but I get the impression that he honestly didn’t do much to make the general public act the way they did towards Tenko. He just let the boy experience the isolation and apathy of a society focused on ignoring danger unless there’s someone authorised to handle it.
It’s actually something that’s pretty common in some Japanese media. There’s a great example of this in the Anime ‘Psycho Pass’, set in a futuristic society that’s kinda a mashup of Minority Report and Mega-City One, wherein a city-wide monitoring system called the ‘Sybil System’ constantly monitors people’s emotional and mental states. Should they exceed an accepted threshold that denotes how likely the person is to committing a crime even in advance of them committing any crimes, that person is pursued by law enforcement and either arrested or executed, so they don’t spread undue stress and emotional instability to people around them and cause more people to become ‘crime co-efficient’.
  *
*
(interrupting here to add a *spoiler warning* for season one of Psycho-Pass, just in case anyone is planning on watching it at any point, which I would recommend actually; it’s a pretty good show.)
*
*
The main Villain of Season 1 is a psychopath that, due to his unique mental mind-set and view of people, doesn’t register as9)crime co-efficient when thinking about or committing crimes, rendering him effectively invisible to the system and incapable of being judged or sentenced under it, which is a problem since it’s illegal to hurt others unless authorised by the system. Despite this advantage, much like Shigaraki, the villain can tell how screwed up the world he lives in is, and seeks to awaken others from their blind dependence on the Sybil system, to think and act for themselves. In ep 14, he starts distributing helmets that shield the wearer from the Sybil System’s monitoring, allowing others to commit crimes to their heart’s content. This leads to a harrowing scene where a helmet-wearing stalker, in the middle of a busy, crowded street in public, walks up to his target and beats her to death with a hammer, in full view of everyone. No-one does a thing to stop him, their dependence and complacency making them think it’s some kind of performance art piece, incapable of thinking that it’s anything sinister or a problem for them to take action against. Even as the woman screams for help, they don’t lift a finger, and the Sybil monitoring robots actually start cornering the victim as she bleeds out, confronting her on how her emotional stability has exceeded the acceptable threshold, and she’s now crime co-efficient, even as she dies.
This isn’t the last time the Villain performs social experiments to demonstrate the inherent flaws of humanity in a society that lets a system control and define their actions. He lures the protagonist to an isolated room with a chasm in the middle, no way for them to cross to him, but no obstacles on his side to hide behind. Thanks to his invisibility, even as he speaks of killing more people, admits to his guilt, and tells the protagonist that he will keep hurting more people to prove his point, the Government-issued gun keyed to the Sybil system won’t fire on him. The villain has located and loaded an ordinary gun and left it on the protagonist’s side, challenging them to use it to shoot him dead. The system is incapable of judging him, so the only way for the protagonist to save lives is to take action without it, to act on their own initiative and do the right thing, even if it’s illegal in the eyes of society. The villain is fully willing to risk his own life if It means he can wake one person up for their society-wide bystander syndrome and make them act and think for themselves.
 *
*
(END PSYCHO-PASS SPOILERS)
*
*
Honestly, I’d love it if, going forward, Shigaraki took similar steps to underline the inherent flaws in a hero-worshiping society, running social experiments that force heroes to avoid participating and ordinary civilians to make the heroic actions and save the day, just like the twin ferry scene from ‘The Dark Knight’, perhaps closely monitoring everything so he can publicize how they made the correct decisions if the government tries to condemn them for taking illegal actions to save themselves. It would be a great way of causing an indirect attack on ordered society. And freeing up people to use their quirks more freely would also tie into the MLA’s vision of society, so that could be a case for what’s left of the army to work with Tomura for now, rather than get steamrolled by Giganto again and their cause forgotten.
If that’s what ends up happening, then that could be the main cause for Deku and Shigaraki to clash time and again against each other, as Midoriya keeps interfering in these experiments and performing heroic deeds to save those in need. Because the one thing that’s always been consentient about Deku- powerless or not, legal or not, he will step in to save someone regardless of the reasons not to get involved. It’s a shame, really, that Tenko and Midoriya didn’t meet when they were kids- you know Deku would have helped him because he needed it, regardless of the potential danger.
---
first off, I just want to clarify that I do understand this scene, and I understand that the series has been clearly hinting at a scenario like this almost from the start. I can also understand and accept the logic behind it. it’s just that I dislike it. I understand the point it’s trying to make; I just disagree with it. I think it’s cynical and dystopian. I think the world is better than that, and I think people are better than that. I’m not gonna go into a whole rant, but there’s this psychological phenomenon called negativity bias that basically means that negative things tend to leave more of a psychological impact in general than positive things. put that together with the constant bombardment of negative shit in the media and online and basically everywhere, and over time that tends to lead toward people perceiving the world as being worse than it actually is. this is something that really bothers me about modern online culture, actually, because the overall effect it has on a lot of people (myself included) is to leave them feeling overwhelmed and depressed, and depression in turn drains your energy and makes it more difficult for people to actually do anything about the bad shit. which, I suspect, is intentional on the part of the institutions responsible for most of said media. let’s energize the far right, and dishearten and discourage the left.
but anyways, that’s getting off track and veering towards territory I don’t have the spoons to discuss further lol. okay, so back on topic. a lot of people pointed out that we don’t actually know whether anyone called the police or not, and it’s very possible that they did. this is a fair point. as for AFO subtly having a hand in influencing the passerby’s emotions as well, I’m all for that too. that was always my original theory. because it’s always been clear that, at least from Tomura’s perspective, this is exactly what went down -- something bad happened, and no one tried to help him. we’ve always known that was the case. I just hoped that it wouldn’t prove to actually be the case, and that we would learn that Tomura had misunderstood, or that AFO had intervened. I didn’t hope for this because I thought it had canon support and was logical; I hoped it because I, personally, disagree with the supposition that the average person, when faced with a situation in which a child is in trouble and needs help, would not help, regardless of the potential danger to them. my own personal belief, supported by my admittedly limited personal experience, is that they would.
lastly, I have seen Psycho-Pass (the first season, anyway; I need to check out season 2 one of these days) and enjoyed it a lot, actually. but it’s one of those things I enjoy simply as a what-if, kind of like The Hunger Games. it’s great entertainment if you’re in the mood for some dark and gritty stuff. but it’s a very 1984 type of worst-case scenario government-controls-your-thoughts type of story, and not something I personally would go “oh yeah, I could see this happening in real life” while watching it. it’s more of a fun cautionary tale warning people about the potential consequences of taking extremes too far, even in the name of the greater good. plus it has these really awesome guns that transform and look really cool and splatter the shit out of people. and Amano did the character designs, so if you liked the character designs in KHR it’s definitely worth a watch for that alone, just putting that out there.
anyway. I’ve completely run out of time, so I’ll just post this and I apologize for not wrapping up my argument neatly. or, you know, at all sob.

Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Super. Which is your favorite?
Oh, anon. You poor soul. You’ve activated my current obsession. Okay. I preface this by saying that DBZ, imo, is the CLASSIC. Frieza, Cell, and Buu? Iconic. DBZ is what I think of as the core of the DB franchise and I adore it accordingly. That being said… I’m really, really loving Dragon Ball Super.
(And I’m totally gonna tell you why because you made the mistake of starting this conversation in the first place :D)
I’m just? A sucker for lore filled with fallible gods?? This is my long-lived love of Greek mythology rearing its head. Even back in DBZ the Supreme Kai was instantly a favorite of mine. Yeah, yeah, the whole fandom rags on him for supposedly being “useless,” but that’s precisely why I love him? He starts out as this mysterious, incredibly powerful figure–powerful enough to scare the crap out of Piccolo–and then very quickly falls off that pedestal, making him relatable and humanized. Shin clearly has a shit ton of trauma from, you know, watching Buu kill and/or absorb his entire family. He’s been forced to take on a job meant for five and he definitely hasn’t been trained (or at least fully trained) for this particular position. He comes to Earth expecting to use mortals as a tool, as one would expect from a high-ranking god, and is just totally blindsided by how powerful they are. It’s an instant double-edged sword. On the one hand hell yeah defeating Buu just got a whole lot more likely. On the other hand, existential crisis much? Who am I–who are all the gods–if we’re not intrinsically more powerful, knowledgeable, or spiritually sturdier than the mortals we watch over? Goku, Vegeta, and especially Gohan upset the presumed hierarchy. It’s why we get such a good dichotomy between Shin and Kibito. Shin rolls with this new information and embraces it fully. Okay. Mortals are stronger than us in so many ways, how wonderful! We can learn from them and rely on them, forming equal partnerships to achieve our goals. Kibito is stuck in his assumptions. How dare you set foot on this world? How dare you think you can pull out the Z Sword? How dare you think yourself equal to a god?
Tumblr media
It’s a familiar theme for DB: humanizing the latest, all-powerful entity. And each new introduction becomes more extreme.
Kami was our original god… who got some awkward moments. Then King Kai is the top guy…who loves lame jokes and lets Goku tear up his sacred planet in the name of training. Then Shin, Supreme Kai of the whole damn universe… who is also an anxious bean Just Trying His Best. It’s a theme I love because it upholds humanity (or in this case Saiyans adopted by humanity) as beings of endless potential. DB is all about pushing past your limits, but that doesn’t just apply to physical power. It also ties into upending the status quo; showing those who think themselves arrogantly better–in this case the gods–that no, we all have worth here. When the chips fall it’s mortals who consistently manage what the gods cannot, reaching a point where, ki-wise at least, they’re indistinguishable from gods, raising the question of why they were ever above them in the first place. They’re not. We’re all on equal footing once those assumptions are acknowledged and done away with. Ancient Kais can like dirty magazines. Supreme Kais can have panic attacks. Destroyers can love pizza as much as the next, average anime watcher.
Tumblr media
Indeed, we see in the Tournament of Power that these rules now apply to Goku in his god state. He might have reached incredible power that everyone else thought impossible… but that doesn’t make the rest of the cast “below” him. It’s only because of his friends–presumably “useless” friends like Krillin and Tien–that allow him to enter the tournament and get as far as he did. It’s his old mentors who he has far outpaced that remind him he still has much to learn and who help Goku tap into Ultra Instinct in the first place. It’s a simple android we haven’t seen in years who manages to win the whole damn thing. The story consistently applies that same message of equality and worth to everyone, including our original paragon who has now reached the status of the very beings he’s worked to outpace. Rather than turning Goku into the hypocrite, DB keeps reminding him that no amount of power is going to change his or anyone else’s worth. He’s still BFFs with Krillin. Still married to Chi-Chi. Still needs other “weak” people like Bulma to help him when things get tough. No time machine, money, or strategic smarts? Sorry, no win.
In short, Dragon Ball Super takes that fantastic message and dials it up to 11. Now suddenly we’ve got a scary Destroyer God… who is easily swayed by tasty Earth food and a good nap spot. Angels who are equally humanized in their humor and love of mortal creations. An omnipotent ruler who is recognizably child-like. It both makes Zeno lovable and downright terrifying. He’s human enough to form friendships and use his power inappropriately. Zeno has the capacity to fall in love with a simple handshake as well as destroy an entire universe with the same detachment that we might, say, walk through an ant hill. Why did I do it? Because I could and no one has taught me yet that this might be something I shouldn’t do. Everyone has the capacity for growth.
youtube
And it’s so goddamn funny? Literally this scene is everything to me because it slams godly assumptions together with simplistic, mortal friendships, then lets that contrast play out. The most powerful being ever, creator of it all, the god that makes every other god shake in their boots wants… a friend? Okay! Our equally intimidating Grand Priest cracking up at this development? Whis losing his shit in the background? Shin straight up fainting? Goku pressing his shiny new god button because who DOESN’T press a button when you’re suddenly presented with one? All of it slays me. Forget stories where you endlessly bow before your supposed betters, knowing that you will never be able to even fathom their power. I want more stories like this, where the hero introduces enough kindness and brazen communication that it upends everyones’ expectations and fun, crazy new relationships form. Goku moved from utter shock at learning the Supreme Kai even existed to hoisting him over his shoulder like a drunk friend who is still refusing to head home. I love this weird-ass family.
Tumblr media
All of which of course introduces the opposite as well. What if we’re given Zamasu, a fallible god whose imperfections don’t result in him becoming another quirky family member, but lead him down a path that endangers the entire multiverse? Though Super hasn’t commented on it explicitly yet, we’re also starting to toy with the idea of exactly how “human” the top gods are and how much growth they are capable of. For example, I’m fascinated by the Grand Priest. The anime makes him out to be far darker than he is in the manga, and I know there’s a disconnect between the two, so I’m not currently inclined to think that he’s the end Big Bad. Rather, he seems to actually have a stronger moral sense than Zeno–he comments on how awful it is that mortals riot and kill one another after learning about the Tournament–but as Zeno’s subordinate, and being well aware of how easy it can be to displease him, he’s not in a good position to sway him. We see him introducing tiny bits of logic to the Zenos (like stopping the fight between Goku and Toppo in the anime), but that’s a far safer thing to suggest then, say, “How about we don’t erase a ton of universes at once, hmm?”
Tumblr media
Like his angel children, the Grand Priest ultimately exists to serve his Lord… but Goku and his friends are in no such position. Not as overtly, anyway. Created through evolution and developing their own ideals, they have the freedom to challenge and ultimately teach all those high-level gods, including Zeno. He says it himself in that clip: “No one will try. You can do what no one else can do!” Goku, both as a mortal and a very straight forward one, has the capacity to charge past those expectations and hit on something grand.
However, we see with Whis that, wow… maybe angels really are so far removed from us that they don’t care in any meaningful way. Whis seems like a friend, but when push came to shove he wasn’t very upset about his entire universe–and a Destroyer he’s known for who knows how many thousands of years–getting destroyed. We can attribute this apathy to him assuming it will all turn out alright (if anyone would realize that whoever wins can just use their wish to revert everything back to normal, it’s Whis), but even if he actually doesn’t care much right now… he’s learning too. Whis went from shrugging about Beerus destroying the Earth (at least he has his leftovers!) to telling Trunks and Mai how to break more time rules–rules Whis originally thought were more important than anything else–just so they could get a happy ending. We’ve seen him form a legitimate friendship with Bulma. He does little things like waving a Universe 7 flag and having them hold hands that demonstrate care, outside of practicalities (like delivering Bulla so Vegeta can fight). He seems more invested in challenging the status quo than his brother and even his brother, notably, slips up and uses “Father” instead of “Grand Priest,” demonstrating a certain level of familial love that can sometimes override pure duty.
Tumblr media
Vados copies Whis and sits with the Universe 7 team, shrugging off the other gods’ disgust. Whis then shows legit pride in Goku managing Ultra Instinct. It’s GREAT watching these beings move from seeing mortals as inconsequential specs in the multiverse to individuals worthy of their time, attention, and respect. We’re seeing that development with Whis most of all, slowly but surely.
And it helps that our protagonist is really worthy of that respect this arc. Beyond his innate capacity for kindness, Goku is wonderfully smart in Super. I myself have mentioned that being naive and battle obsessed to the point of endangering others is kind of his thing, but Super hits a wonderful middle ground. Goku is the one who thinks to use the future Zeno to destroy Zamasu. He figures out a good portion of Zamasu’s plan. He thought up the idea of using dead warriors in the Tournament of Power and instantly has a way of negating the danger Frieza would pose: let’s use Baba so he can only come back for 24 hours. The anime (strangely…) emphasizes how the Tournament is supposedly Goku’s fault, but Vados reminds everyone that Zeno planned to erase the universes regardless. Though he didn’t intend the outcome, Goku’s suggestion of a tournament gave all universes a fighting chance. Much more importantly, it introduced the reward that would ultimately save them all. Goku’s got a good head on his shoulders this time around and the story emphasizes that it’s his capacity to care that saves far more than his brute power. Sparing enemies leads to them turning over a new leaf. Cultivating a diverse family results in a team with the strength and strategy to win. The ability to look at anyone–even Zeno–and smile as you shake their hand results in allies who can save the day when your own strength fails. IT’S ABOUT LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP AND I’M A WEAK GOODY-GOODY.
I just… fucking love DBS. It takes all of the best underdog themes of the DB franchise–Can a low-class warrior become the best? Can a normal human woman gain the love of a prince? Can mortals ever stand side-by-side with gods?–and homes in on those questions, emphasizing them to an almost meta extent. I could give you another hundred reasons of exactly how much I’ve enjoyed these new stories… but I should stop now lol
Last note though Ultra Instinct is AWESOME

Guilt
Blake has something she needs to get off her chest.
Ruby may have been steadily coming into her own as a competent leader, but when it came to social interactions with other sentient beings she felt like the same wide eye fresh faced Beacon student that exploded on it’s pathway. Ruby didn’t think anything of it when Blake volunteered herself to help Ruby find a suitable trail for Bumblebee to go down, she never would have figured Blake was looking for an alone moment with the scythe-wielder.
The two had been spending the whole scout session in relative silence, only allowing the crunching of snow under their respective footwear be the only thing keeping the two from being enveloped in complete silence. It wasn’t  the lingering awkward silence didn’t manage to tip Ruby off about her teammate’s shifty behavior, after all Blake had always been the quiet and stoic type so Ruby didn’t think twice about this. It wasn’t until Ruby started to notice the faunus slowing down and starting to trail behind her as she continued forward. Finally catching the warning signs that something was wrong, Ruby slowed down to a halt and looked back at her timid friend who had also ceased her steps after noticing her leader’s halt.
“Is something wrong Blake? You seem kinda…well I guess…” Unsure of what to say, Ruby just stood there scratching the back of her head as she attempted to stammer out the proper words to describe her concern for the faunus’s behavior. Thankfully for the out of place girl, Blake stepped in and broke her mini bout of silent sulking.
“I’m…I’m sorry.” Blake said, not really bothering to make any kind of eye contact with the scythe-wielder when she spoke. Confused as to what the cat faunus had done wrong, Ruby took a few cautious steps towards her faunus friends, as if scared that if she stepped to hard she would scare away the obviously guilt ridden girl.
“I don…what do you have to be sorry for?” Ruby asked as she stopped just a foot in front of the faunus. Blake who was still maintaining her staring contest with the blanket of snow on the ground didn’t answer Ruby at first. She just grabbed one of her arms and laid her ears back as if she was waiting to get shouted at by the shorter girl in front of her. “Blake…you can talk to me.” Ruby said as softly as she could, speaking so low that if it weren’t for Blake’s faunus ear’s she may not have heard the girl’s words. “You know that right?”
“Back at Burnswick you…I…” It was clear that going back to that house of horrors was a taxing action for the faunus, so Ruby reached out and lightly grabbed the faunus’s hand and placed it gently in the palm of her own. She then covered the girl’s hand with her other hand, making sure to be as gentle with the guilty girl as she could while still making sure Blake could feel her comforting presence. While the book-worm cat girl still didn’t look the scythe-wielder in her silver-eyed face, Ruby still looked up at the pained faunus and patiently waited for the girl to find her words before uttering another word. “I…I…I nearly got you killed…” While she had been staying silent for Blake’s sake, Ruby couldn’t help but interject into Blake’s misguided apology so she could question the faunus’s reasoning.
“You nearly got me killed? I don’t…how?” Ruby asked, still keeping Blake’s hand smothered in her own. It was then that Blake broke her bout of snow gazing and finally made eye contact with her leader’s life saving silver-eyes.
“After those Apathy grimm knocked us down with that shriek, you were the only one who could still move but instead of getting Weiss and Yang out of there you came back for me.” Blake said, furiously doing her best to not let her voice crack as she held back her tears.
“Well of course I came back for you. What was I supposed to do leave you there to die?” Ruby said while activity trying her best to keep her cool while In the midst of her friend’s asinine reasoning.
“THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE!!” Blake shouted at her leader. While she was still visibly upset, Blake started to lightly squeeze her concerned leader’s hand as if she was afraid that Ruby was about to rip her hand away and leave the faunus behind to freeze in the snow. “You shouldn’t have risked yourself by coming back for me, those Grimm had me dead to rights and you should have taken that advantage and focused on ensuring that Weiss and Yang could have gotten out of there in one piece.” The heartless logic behind Blake’s reasoning managed to press a button that spurred Ruby’s rage at her friend’s disregard for her own safety.
“How can you even say something like that Blake!? I would never throw you away like that!!” Ruby exclaimed, still keeping Blake’s hand securely in her own.
“I WAS BEYOND SAVING!!!” Blake snapped back, “YOU MAY HAD YOUR SILVER EYES SURE, BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THAT ISN’T ENOUGH HUH?! WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF YOUR EYES DIDN’T ACTIVATE IN TIME AND THEY CHOOSE TO GO AFTER YOU INSTEAD OF ME!!?? WHAT HAPPENS WHEN…WHEN…” While Blake had been maintaining eye contact through her rant, the memory of how her petty ex-leader maimed Yang right in front of her caused the guilt ridden faunus to turn away from the furious face in front of her and blink back the tears that were threatening to leak from her own gold eyes. “…when you coming to my aid means you’ll get hurt…or…or…”
“So if I was the one at those Grimm’s mercy, and you had the strength to move you would have let me die?” Her leader’s accusatory question caused the tearing up faunus to snap her head back at the stern silver-eyed face that was staring her down. “ If I told you it was fine for that horde of Apathy to rip me apart would you turn your back on me and focus on getting Weiss and Yang out of that tunnel while I was getting my insides ripped open and spilled all over the floor? Would you turn your back on Weiss or Yang so that everyone else could live while they died?”
“OF COURSE NOT!!!” Blake shouted, finally giving into the tears that were threatening to spill out. Blake dropped down to the fluffy ground on her knees and started outright crying, still clinging onto her leader’s hand as she did. “You, Weiss, and Yang are my family. I could never leave any of you behind.” It was then that Ruby slowly lowered herself down to the ground and got on her knees along with Blake, still making sure to keep the faunus’s hand covered with her own.
“If abandoning one of us is so impossible to think of, then what makes it right for you to suggest us abandoning you?” Ruby said. Blake still kept her gaze directed down to the ground where she had put it when she dropped to the floor, she knew Ruby had a good point but the thought of her causing her leader’s death sent a deathly chill sensation through her stomach that made the snow feel almost warm in comparison.
Ruby hated to see her teammate like this she truly did, but she wasn’t sure what else she could say to help get her point across that the book loving faunus shouldn’t feel this guilt over something she had no control over. She wasn’t sure what to sat to her, but Ruby decided to take a few seconds of silence to herself and plan out her words before letting them free and potentially do more harm then good.
“Blake…you had no control over what happened back at Burnswick, and you didn’t succumb to the Apathy on purpose so you could endanger us right?” Ruby asked. Even though Blake didn’t answer, Ruby pressed on and hopped she would be able to comfort her guilt ridden friend. While she wasn’t sure if it was the right move, Ruby timidly lowered her hand and pulled the sobbing faunus in for a loose embrace. While Blake had been hesitant to let go of her hand, she ended up going along with her leader’s lead and let go of the comforting presence. While she didn’t return the hug Ruby had giving, Blake wasn’t trying to force her way out of the hug so Ruby took that as a sign she was doing an okay job so far.
“Your life matters just as much as everyone else and I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to you.” Ruby finally said, “You aren’t responsible for the bad things that happen to the people you love and you don’t need to apologize for them either. We all know that…including Yang.” Ruby was worried she may have upset Blake further due to the noticeable tensing in her body at the mention of her sister’s name, but she still decided to press forward and continue her point.
“Yang doesn’t blame you for losing her arm and you shouldn’t either. She just wants you to be here and to be the friend and partner she had before her accident.” Ruby said, slowly backing away form the hug so she could get a better look at her sniffling friend’s face. It took a while, but Blake finally managed to direct her eyes up towards the warm smile that her leader was currently sending her way. “We all love you and want you to be here, so don’t ever feel responsible for the bad thins that may happen to us, just be happy and enjoy all the good moments we get to share together and focus on those okay?” Blake didn’t answer Ruby’s question, at least not verbally. The faunus threw her arms around her younger leader and let out an uncontrollable sob as she sobbed into her leader's shoulder. Ruby didn’t bother to say another word, she just closed her eyes and smiled as she returned the hug her currently sobbing friend was giving her while she gently rubbed her back just like Yang used to when Ruby would cry into the blonde brawler’s arms when she was younger.
Even if she didn’t always have the best social tact, Ruby was glad to see that she could comfort a friend when she put her mind to it. Ruby was glad the two were apparently not in hearing distance to the rest of the group, she wanted Blake to get her guilt out of the way before the two rejoined there friends back at her sister’s motorcycle and went on their way. Ruby may not know if she would always be able to provide comfort for her friends, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t try, after all just imaging all the beautiful things she would miss out on if she didn’t try ever once in a while.

SEND ??? TO HEAR WHAT MY MUSE REALLY THINKS ABOUT YOURS, BUT WOULD NEVER SAY OUT LOUD. | Closed for now.
I find it amusing she’s so salty about being short when she’s much more the height I’m used to with people, over other Galra. That would mean zero to her I’m sure oooor just make her down right angry to know. So I’ll probably keep it to myself, but for me it’s actually nice.
She’d probably feel less short if she didn’t keep the company of yet another giant. These stupid purple assholes, need to cut it out on the growth hormones, jeez.
I can’t say if it’s just the height, or the fact that our first conversation were essentially arguments on the logistics of contracts to in fact help me, but I feel less uncomfortable around her than others. I mean, I flat out like the woman, but sometimes that doesn’t always dissuade my anxiety with others.
It’s hard to not root for her. She works by her own code that is different from the apathy of the norm. It’s like her own personal middle finger to the Empire and I want to help make that as easy for her as possible. It takes a very strong character to see the failings of your people and actively work against it to try to do good. Especially, when the attitude of your peers and government are the total opposite. When it means uprooting your life and putting yourself in harm’s way. It’s very rare indeed. All in all I think she’s just happiest when she’s helping people and that’s something worth protecting. Though I doubt she actually wants me to.
I might actually be a liability for her if anything though. It might just be best if I take the help to get myself oriented, get what I need and some money to pay her for her troubles and then disappear. That way the Empire might not come sniffing around and there’s less murder, in general. Typically ‘less murder’ makes things easier. I keep double guessing myself on the whole thing. Is it even alright of me to accept the help when I know the trouble it could bring?
It’s all pretty difficult, I need the IDs and the help, but I could find scummier people to do it for me, and if they then get in trouble, it’s no tears shed. I don’t really want to use or endanger her. It’s been a long time since someone’s yelled at me cause they give a shit.
