Some Thoughts on Sheldon Cooper. . .
Tumblr media
"Leonard, I am overwhelmed. Everything is changing and it is simply too much. I need to get away and think." | 7x24 The Status Quo Combustion
Tumblr media
"Dr. Cooper, while you were away we came up with a solution that would allow you to change your field of study." "Wow. Pouting and running away actually worked! Yeah, I must say, that may not be the lesson you want to reinforce with me." | 8x02 The Junior Professor Solution
Tumblr media
"I'm not leaving your world. I'm just talking about living across the hall." "I understand. Either way, I want you to know that I'm aware of how difficult I can be. So, I just want to say thank you for putting up with me." | 8x12 The Space Probe Disintegration
Tumblr media
"It just seems silly to eat in two groups." "It doesn't seem silly if you think of that group as being lead by a big, evil baby." *a few moments later and everyone situated around the couch* "Well, isn't this nice. Sometimes the baby wins!" | 7x16 The Table Polarization
Tumblr media
"Two years ago I got my driver's license." "What?! Why didn't you say anything?!" "I like being chauffeured around. It makes me feel important." | 10x16 The Allowance Evaporation
These are some of the moments where Sheldon shows a level of great self-awareness. I bring these moments up as showcasing that Sheldon's level of emotional maturity is much greater than his friends (and the writers of this show) give him credit for. One of the main problems is how the narrative often treats Sheldon as if he is completely incapable of growth, maturity, or taking care of himself. The truth couldn't be further from this. Even the narrative itself shows how much Sheldon changed during his relationship with Amy. The primary problem is that Sheldon's personality is so big and overwhelming, he doesn't HAVE to change because he is able to get everyone to do what he wants anyway, which he is fully aware of and exploits constantly. I mean if you are Sheldon, someone who has a mind sharper and faster than anyone you meet and prefer to have tight, tyrant-like control over your reality in order to feel safe and secure, pushing and manipulating people around to do your will is going to come naturally with the territory. The problem wasn't that Sheldon is a stunted adult who can't manage life on his own, but it is in the fact that Sheldon rarely got constructive and encouraging push back for his behaviors and choices. For when he did, which primarily came from Amy, he was fully capable of making corrections to his behaviors and expanding his worldview. It just ended up that he was either treated poorly and abusively or enabled and placated. That's why I really love the moment with Mrs. Davis when he comes back from his train-riding "sabbatical". Changing his field of study was a HUGE cataclysmic event in Sheldon's life and was one aspect that was causing him the greatest distress. Yet even in this reality-altering experience, Sheldon realizes that some of his responses to it weren't healthy, and makes a note of it with her, e.g. don't reward my childish behaviors because I will take FULL ADVANTAGE OF THEM. There was SUCH a missed opportunity there at the end of Season 7 going into Season 8. Penny realizing that she and Leonard needed to let Sheldon go, allowing him to make his own choices and do what he felt was right for him was a huge revelation for the characters. It was kind of a significant, paradigm shifting moment! I naively thought that they would build on that going forward in the show, but nah. Of course not. Any moments that would have allowed for such growth from all the characters were usually walked-back or dropped. It is such a shame, and makes the watching of this show frustrating for me. And yes! I know! I realize this is a sitcom! Why am I expecting such highbrow writing from something that is primarily supposed to be comedic and entertaining? Well, I think this subtext was implied in the narrative despite itself, especially with Jim Parsons. I think his acting conveys a lot of Sheldon's complexity through his body language and micro-expressions. There is SO MANY LAYERS to Parsons' performance, I just do not see how you couldn't possibly get wrapped up in dissecting them and having higher expectations of the narrative you are watching. Jim Parsons MAKES this show, otherwise what else would it offer?

Refusing musical labels: a masterclass by Scorpio singer/songwriters
Tumblr media
I think pure country music includes rock and roll, I don’t think you have to call it “country rock” any more than you have to call something “folk rock”.. I've just never been able to get into the further label of “country-rock”.. how can you define something like that? - I just say this: It's music. Either it's good or it's bad; either you like it or you don't.
Tumblr media
I was only a folk singer for about two years…. By that time, it wasn’t really folk music anymore. It was some new American phenomenon. Later, they called it singer/songwriters. Or art songs, which I liked best. Some people get nervous about that word. Art. They think its a pretentious word from the giddyap. To me, the word art has never lost its vitality.
Tumblr media
My music isn’t anything but me. It has jazz in it and rock’n’roll, and it has an urgency to it.
All that stuff about heavy metal and hard rock, I don't subscribe to any of that. It's all just music. I mean, the heavy metal from the '70s sounds nothing like the stuff from the '80s, and that sounds nothing like the stuff from the '90s. Who's to say what is and isn't a certain type of music?
Tumblr media
I never was a country singer. I’m still not a “country” singer. I just write songs and play them. I’m Guy Clark.

Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels - Liberty Hall, Houston, Texas, February 24, 1973
Over on Aquarium Drunkard, I wrote up The Last Roundup, a great new dig into the Gram Parsons live archive, capturing a soaring 1973 gig in Philadelphia. Here, we've got a rare video of Gram, Emmylou and the Fallen Angels from a few weeks prior — pro-shot and very lively, but murky as can be. Squint and you'll be able to see some real sparks fly, though.
This Liberty Hall gig is historic! Why? Well, as Gram mentions towards the end, pedal steel maestro Ben Keith is in the audience — he had just backed Neil Young at the Sam Houston Coliseum during the infamous Time Fades Away tour.
What Gram doesn't mention is that Neil and his-then-opening-act Linda Ronstadt were there as well, and the pair would clamber onstage during the encore for a few tunes. Sadly, there's no video of that ... but I believe this occasion marks the first time that Neil and Linda encountered the force of nature known as Emmylou Harris. I think it's safe to say they both fell in love.
Linda says: When I met her, I thought, "I would give anything to be able to sing with Emmylou Harris. I wish we could become the Everly Sisters." Well, she had a singing partner, Gram, and I thought it was a wonderful combination. I remember telling my boyfriend at the time, who was Albert Brooks, that Emmy could sing higher and lower, and louder and softer, and she could phrase a lot better, than I could. She really had country-rock nailed. Country-rock had been my little niche, but I'd been getting pushed very hard to move it more into rock 'n' roll. And I said, "She just does this so well, I think I'll stop fighting this." Because she just does it better than anybody.

9 - Family Contract Agreement
Tumblr media
Part 10
The Texas Tire Family
Tags just ask - @supernaturalgirl30 @bvbwestfall @bubble-blu @patriciaplictisita @liesanddreams
Sheldon and Amy were going on their honeymoon tonight right before I got a call in our hotel. We weren’t planning to head back to Texas until next week since the girls seemed to enjoy the sites of the city. “Hello who is?”
“Y/n this is Sheldon Cooper. I am calling to ask for your assistance. I know that I have already asked you for one to get my brother to come here. But it would help me out.” Sheldon’s voice came through the phone.
Sitting down by the window looking out at the city inside our hotel room. Georgie was out getting some food for just me and him since Missy and Connie we’re watching the girls tonight for us. “Sheldon, if you’re asking for a favor you don’t have to worry about me saying no. We’re family. Whatever you need, just ask.”
“I am requesting that you and Georgie watch my apartment for me while Amy and I are away on our honeymoon. With a strict set of rules of how to look after it. I already have a contract in place.” He explained making me shake my head, chuckling even though he couldn’t see it.
The door to the hotel room opened with me seeing Georgie sit down with a bag of food from the Cheesecake Factory. We decided to just order a steak and fries to split together since we didn’t have to worry about feeding the girls. “Sure Sheldon. I’ll tell Georgie and we will be over in a few.”
“What were you talkin’ about with my little brother?” Hanging up the phone Georgie put the food on two separate plastic plates coming over to sit across from me by the window. He stabs the fork cutting part of his steak asking me.
Stabbing a piece of my steak I stuck some in my mouth tucking hair behind my ear. “He asked if we could house sit while they were away. Would you mind moving the girls there for the rest of the week?”
“I don’t mind at all. It’s my baby brother who might have a problem with them running around his place. But he’ll have to accept that.” He shrugged his shoulders with some food in his mouth reminding me of when he was kid and would do that at the dinner table. His mother and Sheldon would hate when he would do it.
Finishing off my steak I smiled seeing that he had finished his food too. We packed our bags and what the girls had left driving to the apartment building where the boys lived. Georgie and I made our way up the stairs with our suitcases before he knocked on his door. “Oh great you guys showed up. Come on in.” Amy answered the door with a grin moving out of the way.
“Yeah we did. Aurora and Evelyn are being babysat tonight. But they will be staying here with us later if that is alright.” I explained dropping my bag at my feet, closing the door behind me.
Amy took a drink from a glass sitting it down on the table nodding in our direction. “It’s fine. Sheldon, they are here.”
Footsteps walked out of the room carrying a notepad in his left arm and a pencil in his other hand. He sat down on the couch looking between Georgie and I. “I have drawn up a contract explaining the specific instructions that you need to follow while taking care of our apartment.”
“Alright you’re wish is our command I suppose.” Georgie sat down on one of the corner chairs. I sat down on the other end of the couch seeing Amy standing at the island table.
Sheldon nodded, flipping over a page. “According to the house sitting agreement. One, the temperature of the room can be adjusted but it must be set back before we come home. Two, little Eve and Rora are not allowed to mess with any of my stuff. Three, there is not supposed to be any quotis at all on my bed or on the couch.”
“Sheldon, I don’t think you have to worry about me and Georgie having sex while you’re gone. Considering I am carrying our new baby now.” Resting my hands on my stomach I eyed my husband.
Georgie hit the sides of the chair flashing me a smirk leaning forward towards me. “Awe don’t say that darlin’ I mean we did it a few times during Eve’s pregnancy.”
Sheldon sent him a glare flipping through some more pages. He hands me a pen and the notepad pointing to the lines that we needed to sign. “Just sign lines two and three on page five. Then on seven through ten. And finally sign your names here, both of you.” Georgie took the pen signing his name after mine.
“Okay Sheldon we have to go. Penny said she would drive us to the airport.” Amy sat her bag down by the door hugging me goodbye once I had gotten to my feet hugging her bye. We waved bye to the pair watching them leave where Georgie plopped down beside me on the couch.
He draped his arm over my shoulder where I laid my head on his chest sighing in relief. Lifting my head up after a few minutes of silence. His eyes met mine deeply. “Do you remember the night you sang me one of Luke Bryan’s songs. I know you think you aren’t as smart as Sheldon but you are. And you’ve got a good singing voice.”
“You want me to sing to you again, Y/n. Cause I don’t have a guitar now.” He asked me to move the hair behind my ear gently. He didn’t care much about singing but he knew it made me happy.
Wrapping my arms around his neck I leaned forward kissing him softly. He wrapped his arms around my waist tugging me onto his lap. “Ya don’t need a guitar, Georgie. I’m a simple girl and you meet my needs. Plus I can sing with ya since I’m picking the song.” Digging through my suitcase I found my phone searching through the songs on my playlist picking one and showing him the lyrics.
“Don't have to leave this town to see the world. 'Cause it's something that I gotta do. I don't wanna look back in 30 years. And wonder who you're married to.” Georgie started off singing the Blake Shelton song Nobody But You.
Squeezing his hand intertwined with mine I started jumping in. “Wanna say it now, wanna make it clear. For only you and God to hear. When you love someone, they say you set 'em free. But that ain't gonna work for me.”
“I don't wanna live without you. I don't wanna even breathe. I don't wanna dream about you. Wanna wake up with you next to me. I don't wanna go down any other road now. I don't wanna love nobody but you. Looking in your eyes now, if I had to die now. I don't wanna love nobody but you (You).” We both started singing together.
Georgie rose to his feet tugging me to stand with him intertwining our hands together. He twirled me underneath his arm making me giggle before I attempted to do the same even though he was taller than me. “All the wasted days, all the wasted nights. I blame it all on being young. Got no regrets, 'cause they got me here. But I don't wanna waste another one. I been thinkin' about what I want in my life. It begins and ends the same. If I had to choose what I couldn't lose. There'd only be one thing..”
Tugging him onto the couch twirling my wedding ring on my hand with him kissing me once more. He mumbled resting his forehead against mine, grinning back. “I don't wanna live without you. I don't wanna even breathe. I don't wanna dream about you. Wanna wake up with you next to me. I don't wanna go down any other road now. I don't wanna love nobody but you. Looking in your eyes now, if I had to die now. I don't wanna love nobody but you (You). I don't wanna love nobody but you (You).”
Georgie gently pushes me back onto the couch where my hands ended up in his hair drawing him into the kiss. “I don’t think Sheldon would know if we ended up making out on this couch. It’s not like he knows.” Pulling him back down I wrapped my arms around his neck passionately kissing him until my phone vibrated.
“Hello Sheldon.” I pressed the phone to my ear reading the caller ID.
He responded back simply. “Amy said that you can sleep on our bed instead of the floor. But the no quatis law is still a rule.”
Hanging up the phone I shake my head dragging Georgie into the bedroom where we both kicked our boots off. “You’re brother shouldn’t be mad at us sleeping in here. After all, the next baby might be able to outsmart him. I love you Mr. Texan.”
“I love you, Y/n. I’ll always love ya.” He whispered back moving his hands under my shirt kissing my growing belly.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

Young Sheldon Season 7 Thoughts. . .
Tumblr media
"I've got a hot wife and a Nobel Prize, I turned out fine."
I LIVE. <insert Mushu gif raising from the afterlife> It has been awhile since I have been able to update on here! There are many reasons for this, one of them being my other fandom obsession (Dune, you know the other neurodivergent, genius, socially awkward white boy who thinks he is a god...), but also I've reached the level of obsession with Sheldon Cooper that it is nearly physically impossible for me to watch the new episodes! I hope others understand that feeling. I LOVE THIS BOY SO MUCH. 😭 I am just SO NERVOUS about this season! I don't want Sheldon to experience tragedy. Yet - I have chosen to persevere, and I have now caught up!
And the story has certainly unfolded in interesting directions! 😮 Okay, okay - so the BIG thing - Sheldon witnessing his Father sleeping with "another woman"! I am feeling conflicting emotions - impressed, relieved, and a little upset. I am impressed and relieved because they were able to adhere to the integrity of this show while still allowing established canon to be technically true. However, I am also a little upset because it makes Sheldon's experience less serious and lessens the trauma of it that clearly was established in TBBT. In the episode when Sheldon confesses to Penny about what he saw with his father and how it effected him, that was deeply personal and profoundly impacting. It is what scared him in regards to his relationship with Amy, and kept up his walls against intimacy and vulnerability because he was terrified of hurting her. And it is what made him develop the three knocks coping mechanism. To me the fact that it was actually just a silly misunderstanding (his mother roleplaying) is just another aspect of the writers once again invalidating Sheldon as a character. It is THE main mistake of TBBT, playing Sheldon's personality quirks as primarily foolish and "Hah hah hah! Isn't he a weirdo who doesn't understand social conventions and established normal human behavior?! Har har har!"
Tumblr media
"Penny, I'm going to tell you a story that I've never told anyone..." Sheldon and Penny at the ice cream parlor in Season 10 Episode 5 The Hot Tub Contamination of The Big Bang Theory. This was one of the rare moments this show treated Sheldon's character with gravitas. That's kind of ruined now. . . This is a sin that Young Sheldon has not committed until now, and so that really steams my clams! One of the main reasons I love this show so much is because of how it has always treated Sheldon's character with nuance and dignity, showing his complex layers in a deeply human and beautiful way - even while, yes, maintaining the comedic, quixotic charm of the character as well. So, the fact that they've flattened this significant event in Sheldon's life into a ba dum tss moment thrown at the end of the episode last minute is pretty shitty of them. And yet, Mary and George Cooper rekindled their marriage! I thought it was SO SO adorable how they wrote letters to one another while she and Sheldon were in Germany. That warmed my heart. Young Sheldon's thematic structure works and is reliant upon Mary and George Cooper's marriage (something I will go into more in-depth later) so George cheating on his wife just didn't make sense for this story they were telling, or even the characters they had established. So, it's fifty-fifty. I guess it was the best possible outcome given the givens, and certainly makes me happy because I prefer a reality where Sheldon grows up in a stable - albeit dysfunctional - household rather than the heavily implied even more dysfunctional, traumatic one from the TBBT canon. In most of TBBT, Sheldon certainly painted a deadbeat, failure of a father. Such as his mentioning how his father lost a job due to his stealing from the cash register, which Sheldon had been responsible for telling on his father (The Big Bang Theory 9x12 The Sales Call Sublimation) rather than in Young Sheldon, his father losing a coaching job because of his reporting rule breaking at work (Young Sheldon 1x01 Pilot). There has been some significant retconning going on here in this show, but the retconned reality is the one I prefer - so . . . what are ya gonna do? 🤷‍♀️
