i’ll never understand anti sns shippers who are pro sasuke or naruto.
how do you separate canon soulmates and fundamentally misunderstand their character writing. god forbid traumatised 16yos arent perfect at understanding each other completely and take time to do so. but in the end finally get it and decide to stay together because they do love each other. (edited because NO. it is romantic. 🩷) they both are messy kids who fuck up constantly. both were wrong and right.
anyway, they’d hate you guys for this, they are canonically the most important person to each other and are both obsessive. 😭
naruto fandom stop demonising child soldiers, impossible!

sns is so fucking unhinged and nobody will ever be them i’m sorry. you start the series and it’s like oh haha look at these goofy angsty rivals! they hate each other! then sasuke dies for naruto thirty chapters in giving up his dream of revenge and naruto goes batshit insane. now you’re like ah they’re friends i guess that’s cute! and sasuke is trying to kill naruto because he’s the most important person in his life which is . ok and it becomes the driving force of everything or something. sasuke leaves and naruto dedicates the rest of his life to bringing him back and you’re still a casual fan so ur like he’s doing it for the promise right? then orochimaru says sasuke is his and naruto goes batshit insane feral homicidal (again) and after that sasuke reappears and they have ??? like five different panels dedicated to them staring at each other??? and he jumps off a mountain and hugs naruto for some reasons just to whisper some gay shit in his ear kishimoto frankly needs to be jailed drawing this and keep that best friend nonsense going. anyways. you have sasuke become a convicted terrorist to which the normal people response is “ok we need to hunt him down” and when naruto learns they’re gonna hunt him down he starts screaming crying throwing up he has a panic attack he can’t breathe he’s falling in the snow he gets on his knees and begs them to spare his BFF. after having a meltdown over the thought of sasuke dying what may possibly be the natural coping mechanism any stable person would adapt? of course realising that if sasuke dies he can die too. so he sees sasuke again and after he attempts murdering sakura twice and expresses the intent to murder kakashi he’s like. i will bear the burden of your hatred and die with you hehe and if we both die you won’t be an uchiha and i won’t be the jinchuuriki to the nine tails and we’ll be able to understand each other better in a different lifetime! WE’LL MEET AGAIN IN THE AFTERLIFE BECAUSE NOT EVEN DEATH CAN DO US PART! and sasuke (just as insane as him) doesn’t even flinch he’s like what the fuck is wrong with you but then ok let’s fuckingggf die together on my god i will kill your first anyways . then they find out they are soulmates and get cute matching tattoos on their hands and decide to fight to the death once more because sasuke is back on his i will shoulder all the hatred of the world alone and i need to kill you because i love you more than anyone else in the world actually you’re the only person i love so you need to DIE and naruto is like I WILL NOT LET YOU SHOULDER THAT HATRED ALONE I WILL FREE YOU FROM THE PAIN and they fight and despite all the whatever weapons used in the war it’s a fuckinggg fistfight in which just as sasuke is about to inflict what he thinks is the last blow says “farewell… my one and only…………………. (very long pause to accentuate how heteronormative this next word is gonna be) FRIEND” and fucking stops using his sharingan because not even then he can record the image of naruto dying especially by his hand but naruto STOPS HIM LIKE A f cHAMP and they end up blowing each other’s arms off (rip the matchies) and as they’re bleeding to the fucking death sasuke is like you’re the only person that has never tried to severe their ties with me why do you go so far for me and naruto from the depths of comphet hell is like because you’re my FRIEND and sasuke being absolutely done with this bullshit is like ok what the fuck does that mean to you then and this is where it gets even gayer and relatable because naruto is like i don’t KNOW i just know that when you hurt i hurt and i just can’t take it and isn’t that the most gay experience thing ever? naruto knows what it feels like to have friends but what he feels for sasuke is so bone deep and unconventional that he cannot make sense of it and can only describe the pain it brings. after that sasuke CRIES LIKE THEYVE GOT ME SOOO FUCKED UP but you know what got me even more fucked up?
naruto waking up bloodied and battered and half alive with one arm missing but still wondering if that was heaven because sasuke was next to him. sasuke looking so happy and peaceful when saying “i lost” as a stark contrast to him looking and feeling like half of his body was being torn apart when he “won” against naruto in vote1 and left him. the bitterness of victory vs the sweetness of losing if you will. AND HIM COMPARING WHAT HE FEELS FOR NARUTO TO PRAYING MY GODD. did i forget to mention that then we learn that Ohhh it was never a stupid shallow rivalry as we all thought! they have actually been watching each other from afar since they were little freshly traumatised children and have longed to hold each other’s hands since then! what was it sasukeeee you felt warm and fuzzy when you saw naruto to thought of it as a weakness? these two are so astronomically hopelessly desperately obsessed in love with each other it’s ridiculous i’ve had ENOUGH free me from this mental prison

Naruto is my Roman Empire and I’ve been reading MadaTobi fanfics so these r my Founders Thoughts that nobody asked for:
- Tobirama had a crush on Madara and it PISSED HIM OFF like they def had hate sex at one point LMAO
- they literally worked together ur rlly gonna tell me they didn’t have SOME moments of civility btwn them?? (lowkey that’s wild tho having to see ur brother’s murderer everyday at work-I like Tobi but I’m just sayin)
I WANT A WORKPLACE SITCOM WITH THE FOUNDERS SJSKKSKS:
- Tobi doing experiments and scaring the villagers
- Tobi teaming up with Madara to make Hashi do work
- Hashi making flowers w/government documents
- Mito sipping tea while encouraging Tobi to revive the dead
- everyone in the Tower side eying the sexual tension btwn Madara and Tobi and them never denying they’ve fucked before
- Toka cackling in the background
- Hikaku spraying water at Madara like a cat every time he throws a temper tantrum
- Kagami popping in to make sure his clan head doesn’t kill his teacher PERFECT SITCOM MATERIAL
- totally personal preference: Naruto should’ve had more BLOOD AND GORE. I wanna see the grittiness and horror the shinobi world actually is and how revolutionary Naruto as a character is by choosing peace over violence. The only time we get that is Obito vs Kiri nin, Uchiha Massacre, Wave Arc, Orochimaru…before it turns into DBZ fights
I’ve said this before: Sasuke was in a seinen Naruto was in a shounen
- the warring states is literally the perfect place for exhibiting the horrors of war and humanity. Bloodline thieves, child hunting squads, GIVE. IT. TO. ME. Madara and Hashirama experiencing all of this and wanting PEACE FOR THEIR YOUNGER BROTHERS UGHHH ROBBERY‼️‼️
SORRY TW IMPLIED SA !!:
I HC that bloodline thieves is prob why Madara wears gloves….being a YOUNG (he’s been on the battlefield since he was 8??) powerful, prodigy and future clan head of a famous kekkai genkai it makes sense why he doesn’t like skin-contact/sexual repression and repulsion. And why we don’t see female Uchiha shinobi (excluding misogyny) simply bc there’s such a high risk of SA in this era
Moving on:
- Tobi and Izuna were jealous of how their brothers were being taken away. It goes past the senju/uchiha rivalry like they were just kids and were plain jealous.
- Madara and hashirama def share 1 brain cell LOLLL. Like they’re besties for a reason, Madara acts likes he smarter but nah he’s as much of an idiot as Hashi is. They’re both dreamers let these boys live and skip rocks together!!! 😭😭
- let’s be honest: Tobi built the village. Mans was doing ALL the logistics and infrastructure
- tobirama is soooo second son/eldest daughter coded it’s not even funny. The SPARE, serious and emotionless bc he needed to always clean up after his siblings, DUTIFUL, prob has a praise kink etc.
- Madara is an eldest daughter who also prob has a praise kink and touch starved
- NONE of the founders r well adjusted like they went from spending everyday of their lives at war to tryin bring peace and start essentially a ninja-revolution (PLS GO TO THERAPY)
- madara was just the most open about it: being isolated and feared by his own clan BC he was powerful, trying advocate for the village and peace, all while grieving for his last brother…yeah it makes sense y he went crazy or at least wanted to leave (fuck Kishimoto for that Kaguya bs and fuck Zetsu)
- I don’t actually believe he was trying destroy the village idkkk. I think he was trying to do an SNS aka using fighting as a way to communicate with Hashirama and well…yIkEs
- tobirama is 1000% unadjusted: mans literally created a Justu to revive the dead. You cannot tell me that doesn’t REEK of desperation and loneliness. He’s lit rally the OG mad scientist
- hashirama rlly thought sealing the Bijuu and giving them to each village was a good idea….sir WHO TF GIVES NUCLEAR WEAPONS TO SHINOBI???!! 😳😳
- I think hashirama and naruto lowkey can be summed up as: a powerful idealist. Which is a very dangerous combination. Take that how you will especially considering how shinobi thrive off of violence….it kinda makes sense how we ended up with canon Naruto
- Madara has a god complex and knows it. Hashirama has a god-complex and doesn’t know it. (God of Shinobi title def got to him and understandable)
- the founders failed and they know it. But I also kinda love it?? They’re so flawed and human as leaders and you can see how their mistakes drag into Canon Naruto. It also makes me so sad knowing that Konoha was built to prevent child soldiers and give protection only for it to actually be WORSE (Kakashi ITACHI SANNIN ik for a fact it must’ve hurt Hashi to know ur own granddaughter left the village)
Uchiha are: love is the death of duty while the Senju are: duty is the death of love and neither of them will forgive each other for picking one over the other‼️‼️‼️
- proving this ^^ w/Hashirama’s weird af characterization: aka him being a loveable idiot but at the same time CONGRATULATING Itachi for killing his own clan for Konoha…. I feel like that rlly showed me how much of a war veteran/shinobi Hashirama actually is and how he will always pick duty
- we were ROBBED of baby Kagami/hokage Kagami 😤😤😤 I’m sorry Kagami should’ve been made Hokage it just makes sense personality wise and politically wise. The only way I could see him not take it is bc he needed to be a clan leader/placate the Uchiha/help Hikaku.
- I wanna see him process the loss of his clan leader, teacher, and eventually friends to a point where Danzo takes his eyes
- everyone on Team Tobirama had a crush on Kagami at one point
- one of my fav HC: Tobi and Madara co-parenting Kagami. There’s no way Madara didn’t check up on Kagami being taught by THE senju which makes his defection hit harder for Kagami 😭😭
- BABY SANNIN ‼️‼️‼️ Tsunade was old enough to meet and remember Hashirama it makes sense that Oro and Jiraiya meet the founders
- omg could u imagine being Edo Tensei Hashirama?? Ur granddaughter’s weird friend revives u using the Jutsu ur brother invented that you specifically FORBID 😭😭
- Hashi and Tobi staring at Orochimaru like “you look familiar???” IT HAS SO MUCH COMEDIC POTENTIAL
- Mito revolutionized female shinobi like she’s def the reason ppl realized that girls can fight (Senju Toka was an exception) STAN MITO 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️
- Mito pulled a Tsunade and mentally yeeted out of Konoha after Hashi and Tobi died. Bc the way we NEVER hear about her and Hiruzen interacting except for Kushina, even tho she’s literally RELATED to the other 2 hokages….ROBBED 😵‍💫
- I HC: she was dealing w/grief (the fall of Uzushio made it worse) and she was lowkey pushed out of the council by Danzo FUCK DANZO
- I love the idea of Mito wooing for Hashirama’s hand/politically smart Mito!! It was a political marriage that grew into love. There’s no way she DIDNT suspect an attack on Uzushio lik it’s literally an island w/Kiri as it’s neighbours….Konoha gets recognition and stability while Uzushio importantly gets mainland allies
- Mito tops btw she’s def pegged Hashi before 🫢
- if Madara or Hashi had sisters/born women they would’ve def had a marriage to solidify their alliance. This makes Japanese homophobia not make sense esp in the shinobi world bc their clans trusted each other w/o backup like marriage?? Idk I’m just kinda confused y it was never even brought up for an alliance…
*cue MadaTobi arranged marriage au 100k, enemies to lovers, slowburn*
- also to dude bros homophobia has no place in the Naruto world (and IRL BTW) outside of making heirs. They’re literally MERCENARIES You telling me Kakashi has never fucked another man for information before??? Pls be serious I’m begging y’all 🙃🙃🙃
- there’s def family drama amongst the senju!! Idk I feel like Hashirama and Tobirama have the relationship of: “they love each other but don’t like each other” which makes Madara’s inclusion even worse for the brothers’ relationship. Like they def always had each other’s backs but never actually felt like they understood each other.
- I wish more fanfics/canon covered the shinobi-civilian politics more (I love politics lol give me world-building kishimoto 😤)
- Civilians hold power. THEY have all the MONEY to pay shinobi
- I’ve rlly only seen 1 fanfic that involves the Fire Daimyo during the Warring States Era (Into the Wide Blue Yonder it’s a KakaSasu Time travel fic that actually ✨works✨ 12/10 recommend) but it’s true.
Wtf is the Fire Daimyo doing during this era??? Why is he being so placate about Senju/Uchiha war unless he just sees it as entertainment?? How have shinobi NOT fought against rich civilian politicians before?? (Introducing Maoism to the naruto world lol 🤔🤔)
- Kishimoto curse ur goldfish brain….
- the uchiha and senju were def broke in this era, LMAO especially the Uchiha and I mean resource wise. War is EXPENSIVE the Uchiha don’t have Hashirama and Mokutan, they couldn’t just grow food whenever they wanted. It makes total sense that they would agree to a ceasefire just to prevent STARVATION
- once again…. robbed in terms of seeing the aftermath and devastation of war and learning how to live in a morally grey, politically unstable, resource limited world which could’ve brought in the ultimate themes of peace and the cycle of violence, and the question of if violence and war is ever justified, but…..no ❤️

Hi~ Your writing is so so good, I can't believe I just found your blog now but I'm glad I did. I'd love to request if that's ok? A Neji x fem reader (if it's okay, Uchiha!reader, but I'm happy if not) where the Hyuga clan don't approve of their relationship, Hiashi threatens her to leave him and it kills her to do so. Angst but happy ending when Neji finds out and finds the reader again. I hope that's okay. Thank you again for your beautiful writing! ❤️❤️
author’s note: words cannot describe how hard I fell in love with this idea the second I’ve read it! (which is probably why it became so long, I just couldn't stop the story flowing heh, really sorry! x) For the purposes of this, I wrote f!reader as the sister of Sasuke and Itachi (hope that's okay). I really hope you enjoy and thank you so much for requesting! <3
warnings: angst with a happy ending + Neji is alive after the war (in this blog this is the only correct answer when it comes to Neji!)
Tumblr media
The clock loudly struck midnight when you finally reached the doors to the gardens and pushed them open. Expertly navigating the maze of rose bushes, your bare feet hurriedly carried you toward the small house in the distance, the only safe space you could think of.
Your breath was rigid, your cheeks were flushed and your eyes stayed focused ahead, too scared to look back, in case that slowed you down. The muscles in your legs started to burn and begged you to stop for a rest, yet you couldn't afford even a second to spare.
You couldn't see him, but you knew he was near. One wrong step was all it took for him to catch up with you and you were not one to give up without a fight. Pushing the last bit of energy you had left, you squeezed the middle of your night dress in your fists, lifting it and making it easier to make longer strides.
You could see it clearly now - the smallest house of the Uchiha compound, used for newlyweds before the massacre, now standing lonely as your only hope to hide. It was so close, that your arms instinctively reached forward, eager to touch the wooden rail as a sign of reached safety.
Just seconds before you could do that, two strong arms circled your waist, lifting you up in the air and turning you around. You thrashed and kicked in the person's embrace, successfully bringing both of you down, yet he somehow found himself on top of you, quickly pinning your hands above your head.
"Looks like I won", the words came out smugly of his lips, his breathing calm and collected, almost like he hadn't been chasing you around the compound for the last fifteen minutes, "again."
You, on the other hand, were still trying to compose yourself, your lips forming an unhappy pout. He seemed to find your expression amusing, as he lifted himself into a seated position, his pale lavender eyes boring intensely into your black ones.
“You cheated”, you accused him, wiggling under his weight in an attempt to free yourself from his strong hold, “You used the Byakugan.”
Your movements stopped, your body feeling too tired to fight back. His grip also eased but did not disappear completely.
“A bold accusation”, the corners of his lips lifted in a small smirk, “and totally untrue.”
Neji finally let you go, plopping on the grass next to you, his eyelids closing at the feeling of the gentle night breeze that kissed his warm skin. You couldn't help but sneak a glance at him, admiring his almost ethereal beauty. The moonlight was shining upon him, creating the illusion that his face was glowing, while his long dark hair formed a large halo around his head. The bandage around his forehead was gone, his curse mark now a sign of pride and self-acceptance, rather than shame.
He looked like an angel. And for you, he certainly was one.
Growing up as the youngest remaining member of the Uchiha clan, your path in life was pre-determined to be filled with hate and pain. A lonely path, which you could only share with Sasuke, who was just a year older when the massacre happened. Witnessing the death of everyone you loved led you to form a shared belief that the only true purpose in life is to get revenge.
Your brother must have known it was wrong, even when he was obsessed with the idea of hunting Itachi down himself. Why else would he try to shield you from the life of a shinobi, forbidding you from attending the academy? Why would he try to stop you from leaving Konoha with him, throwing hateful words at you in an attempt to push you away? Why would he battle Itachi by himself, crying in your arms afterward, seeking comfort and forgiveness for his actions?
If you could be described with one word, however, that would be stubborn. Which is why you never gave up on trying to train your jutsu techniques in secret from your brother, nor did you leave his side once he joined Orochimaru. Despite the creepy feeling of uneasiness and fear you felt during these years, you always stayed loyal to Sasuke and you shared a goal, even going as far as to fight his old comrades once they found you and tried to convince you to go back with them.
You were not nearly as strong as Sasuke, due to his overprotectiveness and attempts to stop you from developing your skills further, yet during your late teenage years you found your strength lied in your skill to manipulate, rather than your skill to throw punches.
Everyone wanted an Uchiha woman.
Maybe it was a sick dream or a competitive spirit that men had over who could capture the attention of the last pure-blood female wielder of the Sharingan. Or maybe they carried a false idea that by getting you, they would somehow manage to connect their clans to yours, thus contributing to a new generation of exceptionally gifted and skilful ninja.
Whatever the reason was, it was clearly not because any of them liked you or cared about you in the slightest. Half of them could not even remember your first name and the rest found your bloodline way more interesting than your personality.
But with your main goal being extracting information about Itachi, and later about Danzo, Obito, and Madara, you gladly entertained such illusions, charming them with your fake innocence and cunning methods of easing them into trusting you. Your increasing knowledge of using genjutsu has also made it easier for you to aid your brother, without the need to spill blood and physically get into a fight.
Something, which turned out to be extremely valuable, once you participated in the Fourth Ninja War.
"Hey...", Neji's voice brought you back to reality and you lifted your eyes to him, noting the slight crease of concern between his brows, "Are you feeling okay?"
You nodded your head, suddenly embarrassed by the fact he caught you zoning out while staring at him. Turning your body to the side, you laid your chin on one of your hands, while the other one reached out to brush a piece of hair that fell in the middle of his forehead.
"Yeah", you said quietly, giving him a small smile, "I am now."
He stared at you for a few seconds, trying to trace any signs of lying on your face, before his hand wrapper around yours and brought it from his forehead to his lips. A gentle kiss was laid on each of your knuckles and you suddenly felt your chest being filled with a pleasant warmth.
Kami, you could live a hundred lifetimes and you still wouldn't deserve this man!
The love that blossomed between you two was unexpected and powerful, sweeping both of you off your feet. What started as him reluctantly agreeing to help you and Sasuke settle back into the village's life after you were pardoned for your crimes, soon turned into a passionate love affair between both of you.
Sneaking out during the darkest hours of the night, communicating only with glances in public, and finding excuses to train in secluded places in the forest were now usual things for both. Sasuke realised long ago there was something going on between you two, especially after you refused his invitation to join him on his travels abroad and chose to stay by yourself in the large compound. Still, he never directly addressed it, happy that you found someone who was appreciating you for you, not for the last name you carried.
A few members of the Hyuuga clan also realised there was a reason for Neji's suddenly distant behaviour. Hinata, being the first to accidentally catch Neji sneaking past midnight out of his room and jumping over the neighbouring wall their family shared with the Uchiha property, was not really that shocked or surprised. She knew that her cousin has actually harboured some form of crush on you, after you selflessly protected him and Naruto during the war, and she was glad you returned his affection.
Hiashi, on the other hand, has also connected the dots and was far from happy. As the strongest young male of the clan, Neji was being groomed into one day taking over the position of the leader, something which both his daughters appeared too timid and weak to take over. His relationship with you, regardless if it was serious or not, was not only a risk to him, but to the whole Hyuga clan, who valued the purity of their family bloodline.
And while he never said anything to his nephew, he watched him through his window night after night, sneaking once the moon was high up the sky and coming back just minutes before sunrise. Something had to be done and it had to be done soon, before you became a bigger threat. Thankfully, Hiashi knew just how to deal with pests like you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Are you coming tonight?", you murmured in his neck, your breath tickling the soft skin. The grip of his fingers tightened on your waist and you couldn't help but smirk after you felt his breath hitching, knowing well that if you looked up you would find a pink blush covering his cheeks.
Neji hummed, his lips trailing from your temple down to your cheek, landing a few light kisses while doing so. You squirmed at the ticklish feeling, a low chuckle leaving your lips. The man closed his eyes at the sound, which sounded like a music to his ears. He often imagined what it would be like to wake up to it, once you become his lawful wife. Would your children also carry such melodic and hypnotising voice? He really hoped so.
"When have I ever missed?", his brow lifted in question and your lips immediately stretched into a wide smile, before pressing themselves to his. He tasted sweet like honey and you found yourself getting lost in the feeling of his mouth moving against yours. Both of your heads tilted in the opposite directions at the same time, one of his palms gently cupping your jaw to keep your head steady.
After a minute, you both felt the need to inhale oxygen and pulled away from each other, the feeling of the lost of contact already making you whine.
"You are either going to be either my death or my paradise", his soft gaze landed on yours and he landed one more kiss to your mouth, before pressing his forehead to yours, "If I don't leave now, I will surely be caught. The majority of the elders wake up with the first rays of sunshine."
Knowing there was no point to argue or beg him to stay, you nodded your head, already feeling eager for the sun to go down so you can see your lover again. You wished you could proudly show your love to the world and claim him as yours, without having to hide and pretend. And while he has assured you before that he is ready to have your relationship public, you still felt insecure about how people and more importantly his family would react.
You may have been pardoned, but you were still considered an ex-criminal by the laws of the village. Many people were still cautious about you and Sasuke, raising the concern that inevitably you or the future generations of Uchiha would bring more trouble. Some of them tried to reason with the Hokage that it is best if you are forced to move outside the village. One of these people was also Hiashi, who also felt that due to the fact the Hyuga compound was neighbouring yours, they would have to more or less keep an eye on you, thus wasting valuable time and resources.
Given the obvious dislike of his uncle towards you and the fact that Neji was having enough stress in his preparation to become the next leader of the clan, you couldn't risk to taint his reputation or chances to finally rip he fruits of his years of suffering and hard work. So you kept insisting you meet in private, telling him you would be ready once a little bit more time passes.
"I love you", you whispered against his lips as your final goodbye, before stepping away and opening the door to the gardens. Neji's face visibly relaxed and he rubbed his nose against yours, his own little gesture of affection, which you knew carried twice as much feelings as any kiss.
"I love you, too", he replied, finally stepping outside and looking at the dark orange colour of the sky in the distance. He turned to you one last time, obviously wishing to steal just a few more seconds in your presence, "Get some rest. You haven't slept at all through the whole night."
You rolled your eyes and were about to reply that he had not slept at all as well, but the moment you opened your mouth, he was already walking towards the end wall you shared with the Hyuga. A small smile graced your lips while you watched him climb it, before disappearing on the other side. With his presence gone, the need for sleep caught up with you and you soon made your way towards your room, slipping under the warm blankets and into the world of dreams.
You were not sure for how long you were asleep for. Maybe it was an hour or maybe it was two, but what you knew was that it wasn't for long before you were forced awake by loud banging on your door. Your initial reaction was to ignore it - it was probably Naruto or Sakura, wishing to train with you or grab lunch. If you didn't answer after the first few minutes, they were bound to give up.
The banging, however, persisted and it became louder and louder the more you tried to ignore it. Letting a silent puff under your breath, you kicked your covers away and grabbed your dark blue house kimono from the chair next to you bed, before tightening it around your night gown. You lazily made your way towards the door, trying to rub away the sleep from your eyes.
You didn't had to try for long, since as soon you opened the door, you became wide awake and alert.
"Lord Hyuga?", what was supposed to be a greeting came out more as a question and the old man grumbled in response, his eyes travelling from your messy black locks down to your bare feet. You tried to fix your appearance a bit, pushing your hair back and putting on the first slippers you managed to locate, which happened to be Sasuke's.
"Uchiha", he said your last name with a sour expression on his face, "Can I come in?"
Realising you were yet to invite him in, you cleared your throat and nodded your head.
"Of course, please!", you moved to the side and Hiashi did not waste even a second before pushing past you and heading toward the first open door he saw, which happened to be the one of the living room. You closed the door, but not before you scanned the visible area in front of your house.
He seemed to have come alone. Weird.
“Can I get you anything, Lord Hyuga? Tea? Water?”, you tried to ignore the cold glare he was giving you, instead keeping your tone as polite as possible. The man shook his head, instead pointing toward the seat in front of him as a silent gesture for you to sit. Your eyes danced a few times between him and the chair before giving in at his request.
“You are a smart woman, which is why I’m going to cut straight to the point”, his posture straightened and his chest puffed a bit forward, an obvious way of him claiming the more dominant role in your dialogue, “I want you to leave Neji alone.”
Your eyes immodestly widened and your throat felt dry, squeezing around nothing. Your finger clutched the ends of your kimono belt, digging your nails into the soft fabric while your brain rapidly tried to come up with a response to his blunt words.
“Wh-what?”, you finally managed to let out the question, mixed with a nervous laugh, “I don’t know what you are talking about, Lord Hyuga.”
Were you supposed to admit to your affair? To deny it? Has Neji told him or did he somehow caught him in the act of sneaking? Many questions kept flooding inside your brain, the whole situation catching you completely off guard.
Hiashi clicked his tongue in annoyance, not appreciating the fake oblivion you were trying to sell him. “Typical Uchiha”, he thought to himself, before shaking his head.
“Your little tricks may work on my naive nephew, but I already have experience with the snakes from your clan”, he said harshly, looking you through narrowed eyes, “You are neither as cunning or sneaky as you think. I know you have been in a relationship with Neji for the past year and a half and I am here to tell you that whatever you have going on is ending tonight."
Losing your composure was something which almost never happened to you. Perhaps the years living among the biggest criminals in the world has hardened your personality and you knew how to keep yourself collected under pressure and threats.
But now, under his cold glare and harsh demand, you felt something inside of you snapped and your Sharingan involuntarily activated, the confused expression on your face now transformed into a serious one. You held his eyes and with a deep breath you relaxed the tight grip you had on your robe, laying your palms flatly on the table in front of you instead.
"Are you threatening me, Lord Hyuga?", your head tilted to the side, the dynamic between you clearly shifting, "Because last time I checked I have no reason to explain myself to you, let alone listen to your commands."
"Ah, there she is", he simpered, looking pleased with the fact he managed to provoke such a defensive reaction from you. Staring at your red eyes, he leaned forward, laying his own two hands opposite yours on the table.
"Maybe not", he shrugged his shoulders, "But I want you to think about my next question and give an honest answer."
A few seconds of silence followed, before he opened his mouth again:
"Do you believe, even for one second, that you would ever be good enough for Neji?"
The words hit your deeper than expected. Pressing your lips into a thin life, your whole body visibly tensed, the truth of his words suddenly hitting you like a ton of bricks.
Neji was a strong, hard-working and honest man, who had strong moral values and sense of loyalty. Did you deserve such a partner after everything you have done? No.
But you were not willing to give up on him either. You had no idea why fate made him fall in love with you, but you were not about to throw it away just because someone felt threatened by it.
Sensing that you won't reply to his question, Hiashi continued:
"You may have a few gifted exceptions such as Madara or your brothers, who all went down in a questionable path", he mused, "but the Hyuga remains being the strongest clan in Konoha. A position which we held and will continue holding due to our strong sense of community and the duty we feel to look after one another."
You couldn't help but raise your brow at his words and narrow your eyes.
"A duty which you did not feel toward the members of the branch family, including your own brother", you bit back, knowing where to hit so it hurts the most. Your verbal attack seemed to be successful, as his facial muscles hardened and his whole look became darker.
"There is no division in the family no more", he hissed through his gritted teeth, questioning how open Neji has been to you through the course of your relationship. You obviously had an insight of how the family used to work and while he felt he shouldn't hold that against his nephew, he couldn't help but feel betrayed by the fact the matter was discussed with an outsider.
"Not thanks to you", your tone matched his, "It is Neji who pushed for this change, it is him who will completely unite the Hyuga clan."
Hiashi chuckled dryly at your words, surprisingly nodding his head.
"And where is your role in this, you think?", pushing himself back into a straight position, he looked at you with humour in his pale eyes, maybe even a bit of pity, "A woman from a clan, famous for producing mentally unstable individuals, who either start wars or betray their village."
Your hands immediately tightened into fists, nails digging at the soft flesh of your palms. With a deep breath and teeth sinking deep inside your lower lip, you tried your best to control the rising rage inside your body.
"You don't know anything-"
"I know that even now you are barely holding back", he interrupted, his voice louder than before, "Do you think that we will not only let someone like you in the family, but also let them marry to the future leader of the clan? That we would risk having future heirs who possess the Sharingan, rather than the Byakugan?"
The sudden realisation of your potential future made you freeze. You never really though about children or how your future may look like, but it was now clear to you that Hiashi was, indeed, right.
As long as Sasuke found someone to settle with and produced heirs, your clan was bound to continue to exist and be restored. The Uchiha have powerful bloodline, which even when mixed with someone who is not part of the clan, overpowered the other genes. This why you knew that a few generations in the future, your family was about to be brough back to its original numbers prior to the massacre.
The Hyuga clan, however, could not risk their clan leader producing an Uchiha heir. While having pretty strong genes themselves, it was really a half-half chance what the child is going to be. Odds, which were not good enough, especially for a clan that valued purity so much.
The man stood up, making his way toward the door, while leaving you to think over his words.
"If you don't care about yourself and your reputation, which is damaged enough already anyway...", he stopped by the door, giving you one last look, "Then think about Neji. I may have no control over you, but I can promise you that he will not become the leader of the clan if you continue to pose a risk to our family, nor he will remain a member of it."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The air felt colder than the previous night, dark clouds slowly floating and covering the bottom half of the moon. Leaning against the wooden railing of the main house's terrace, you starred up the sky, wondering what your life would be if you were born into a different lifestyle. With different parents, siblings and without the curse of hatred.
How easy life would be then... No rules, no regrets. Just freedom.
Soft fingers brushed your hair aside and you jumped at the feeling of someone standing behind you. Turning around you found Neji, who quickly retracted his hand once he noticed your jumpy reaction.
"My flower", he gently smiled at you, closing the distance and attempting to kiss your lips, but landing on your cheek instead after you turned your head last minute. Immediately furrowing his brows, he grabbed your face in his hands and turned it towards him, his eyes immediately noticing the lack of excitement that usually radiated from you every time you saw him.
"What's wrong?", the young man wasted no time enquiring, the bluntness of his words reminding you of that of his uncle. You tried to smile, but your heart did not allow you to fake your emotions before him. There was no point either way - Neji was excellent at reading people, especially you. Sometimes you felt he knew you better than you knew yourself.
"Walk with me", was all you replied, before stepping back and walking down the stairs. When you noticed he was not following, but remained in his place, you extended one of your hands toward him, "Please."
He stared at you unsure what he should do, but eventually he followed you, frowning when you retracted your hand before he could grab it. You walked in silence between the small houses forming the Uchiha compound, before he tried to quiz you again:
"Did I do something? Are you upset with me?"
You shook your head, your heart ripping apart inside of your ribcage at the thought that he was torturing himself with the idea that he had done something wrong. Your pain also increased knowing what were you about to do was going to crush both of your souls.
"Of course not", you denied, "I just... I really want to show you something."
Neji glanced at you again, not saying anything. One quality that you admired about him was his patience - he was not pushy or assertive, instead he always gave you space when he felt like you may need it. Just like he was doing now.
Reaching the end of the compound, you found yourself standing in front of small memorial temple, the Uchiha symbol, painted over the double doors, was now dusty and in places - completely missing.
"I haven't been here since I was a kid", you smiled sadly, going up the few steps and entering the small space with Neji following cautiously behind. He knew what the building was - his own clan had a very similar temple in their own compound, a way for the family members to seek guidance and comfort from their ancestors in times of great need. Unlike his, however, the Uchiha temple was dark, dusty and covered with webs - a sign that not only you haven't visited in a long time, but neither had Sasuke or any other person.
You made your way towards the middle, grabbing what was once a candle, but now was just a piece of melted white wax.
"I came here the day before me and Sasuke left the village", you said, your eyes moving up the large stone in the centre of the temple, where the names of all of the deceased Uchiha members prior the massacre were neatly written in a big list, "I asked for guidance, for some type of advice... yet I was met only with silence. Maybe this is why I found myself taking the wrong path."
Neji kneeled next to you, his hand finding yours and giving you an assuring squeeze of his fingers.
"Yet here you are", he calmly stated, his free hand wiping the dust away from the altar from where you picked the candle from, "You found yourself and you came back home. That is something that not everyone can do."
You let him hold you, his words of comfort making your eyes sting. Yet, you refused to cry, not wanting to scare him. Instead, you took a deep breath, before reaching to your dress pocket and getting out a new candle and a box of matches. You carefully placed it in the middle of the altar and lighten it.
You lifted your gaze towards the stone with names, the only one you recognized being the ones of your grandparents written right at the bottom. Your memories of them were somewhat lost in the fog of time, yet you tried your best to keep them alive in your mind, as well as the rest of your family.
"Maybe. But this is not why I brought you here", for the first time this evening you looked at him straight in the eyes, "I wanted to..."
The words died in your throat and Neji gave a gentle squeeze to your hand, a reassurance that you can take as long as you need to tell him whatever was on your mind.
"My flower, don't feel the need to-"
"I can't be with you anymore."
His hand suddenly withdrew as if your skin burned him and you desperately fought the instinct to reach out to him. He remained silent, studying your face with his brows furrowing more and more, till there was a deep crease between them.
"Y/N...", your name rolled out way too calmly for your liking, "Tell me what is going on."
Your face remained stoic, the fear of accidentally indicating even with the slightest twitch that you are lying paralyzing every muscle you had. Dragging your tongue across your dry lips, you took a deep breath, before repeating the same story you have been rehearsing for hours that day.
"My ancestors have showed me the truth", you stood up, gaze focused on the stone before you, "I have a duty towards the future generations to ensure the survival of my clan and my bloodline."
Your lover quickly followed your movements, but instead focused his attention on you. You heard him loudly gulp, before speaking:
"I assume the "truth" they have showed you does not involve me."
Neji has always been smart, often too smart for his own good. Which is why it didn't take him longer than few seconds to feel the direction in which you were trying to stir the conversation. You remained looking at one unspecific spot in front of you, still trying to contain the tears that threatened to spill any moment.
"With Sasuke gone, I am the one who is in charge of this clan", your back straightened more and more with each word, your body turning to face his, "It is my duty to ensure that the future leader will possess the Uchiha genes."
Something in his jaw worked and his eyes narrowed just a bit, a sign he was analysing something.
"Are you pregnant?"
A faint blush covered your cheeks at his question and you shook your head 'no'. You and Neji had been intimate a few times in the past, but you have always been careful.
"No, of course not!"
"Then why are you doing this?", his arms crossed in front of his chest, "Because you had a dream?"
The way he said it sounded almost mocking and you gave him a glare, suddenly feeling stupid after realizing how absurd it sounded. Maybe you should've come with a different story, about how you were going to travel with your brother or something.
"It was a guidance."
"Your ancestors didn't gave you a guidance when you needed it most and but suddenly they feel concerned if you future children are going to be Uchiha?"
His voice was getting lower, while his face remained serious, and you quickly understood that his patience was starting to run thin. Neji was an understanding man, but he was no fool - he knew when somebody was trying to lie to him, especially when that somebody was you.
"Perhaps the guidance comes when it is needed, not when it is sought."
"Don't lie to me!", his calm exterior cracked and he grabbed your hand, turning you toward him, "Everything was fine this morning and suddenly you feel like we are not good together anymore? All because of the idea of children, which we don't even have?"
"Does it not bother you?", your voice raised as well, "The idea that your successor may not be Hyuga? The idea that you would betray your clan?"
Neji remained silent and his hand slowly removed itself from you. A sudden wave of coldness hit you once his warm touch was gone. He studied your face, carefully examining each movement you made.
"Did anyone from my clan come to visit you?"
So he has put the pieces together. You should have expected this... It was now or never! You had one chance to execute your lie perfectly. C'mon, Y/N! You have been tricking men all your life, just calm your nerves, look into his eyes and... strike.
"We had fun time, Neji", a small apologetic smile danced on your lips and your hand reached to his crossed arms, laying on top of them, "But it is time to think about the future! And having fun is not enough for me to keep pretending anymore... The same way it was not enough for all these that tried before you."
The more you talked, the more distressed he started to appear. He was trying to hide it well, but the way he was biting the inside of his lips and the nervous twitch of his toes were enough for you to know how he really felt.
"You are lying...", it sounded like he tried to reassure himself, rather than confront you.
"I was", you shrugged your shoulders, "But not anymore. It is time to be honest with each other."
"You said you love me-"
"I said what I knew you needed to hear."
That triggered something in him and he looked at you with disgust, before stepping away from you. Turning his back, you could see him taking deep breaths in attempt to calm himself. You closed your eyes, unable to witness the pain you have caused him.
"The stuff they said about you...they are all true, aren't they?", his voice came out quiet and you almost missed it with the sound of the wind outside, "About how you tricked men, women and children, just to further the agenda of hatred you shared with your brother! How you used people's kindness only to stab them in the back once you no longer need them! How villages were burn and people were exiled, because they were foolish enough to trust you..."
You couldn't keep your tears anymore and you let out a loud sob, rubbing the sleeve of your top against your eyes. But unlike the usual comfort Neji provided in moments like this, the only thing he offered you was a glare mixed with disgust and anger.
"Why are you crying?", he rhetorically asked, scoffing at your behaviour, "Do you want me to feel bad for you? After you ripped my heart out and stomped on it just so you can have "fun time"?"
Choosing to move your eyes to your shoes instead, you watched your tears falling on the cold stone below. You always thought you knew what pain was having lost so much since such an early age... But what you felt at this moment was the most excruciating feeling you have ever experienced.
Shaking his head, Neji let out a sigh, before he closed the distance and wrapped one of his arms around your shoulder.
"Shit, I...", it was the first time you ever heard him swear and it surprised you, "You have no idea how much I hate you right now... and how much I hate myself for the fact I can't bear the sight of you being upset."
Your knees gave up under you and if it wasn't for Neji, holding you, you would've collapsed on the ground. Hearing him say he hate you was the final drop in the already overflowing pool of emotions you were feeling, but you couldn't be mad at him. You hated yourself too, probably more than he could ever do.
Staying intervened with each other, you tried to burn the feeling of his body against yours into your mind, so you had a bittersweet moment to cherish for the rest of your life. Because no matter what happened with you, Neji or even Hiashi, you knew that there was no going back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weeks passed and Neji never came back, neither you saw him in public. You didn't even remember when he left on the day you ended your relationship, all you could remember was him carrying your tired body inside, before laying you down and leaving without another word.
Neji, however, saw you. Every morning when you were leaving your house for groceries. Every evening, when he was walking home with Lee and TenTen after training and he could see the outline of your silhouette walking around the house through your window.
The young Hyuga has always been somewhat reserved and cold, especially to people he didn't know. But since that day he started shutting everyone out - his teammates, his family, even his sensei. And no matter how hard they tried to reach out to him and find out what was going on, he refused to let anybody in, instead focusing all his energy in either doing solo missions or training.
The only person that could make sense of Neji's current state was Hiashi, who after a few weeks of watching his nephew push himself to the limit, decided it was time to have a talk with him.
"It is the Uchiha woman, isn't it?", he asked one day while watching over the compound with his hands clasped behind his back. He never even glanced at Neji, who looked at him with surprise, before pressing his lips into a thin line.
"I see", Hiashi said after the few seconds of silence, "They have this strange aura about them. It's almost like they are luring you in, trying to stray your attention away from what is really important... Her mother was the same."
The young man did not reply, instead eyed his uncle suspiciously. He waited for him to continue, but was met only with silence. After a while, he forced his gaze away and mimicked his position by moving his own arms behind him.
"I wouldn't know, uncle."
"Wouldn't you?"
It almost felt like time stopped and Neji held his breath. Hiashi continued to look ahead, appearing to all the other member of the family that passed by that he was just enjoying the peace of his own mind.
"That part of the wall that you kept climbing in order to sneak out is right under my window."
His nephew pressed his eyes closed and let out a small sigh. Did he feel disappointed because of the lack of care he was exercising? Yes. Was he surprised? No, not really. Hiashi seemed to have his way of knowing everything about the members of the clan - what were they doing, where were they, who were they with. Neji supposed this was one of his responsibilities as the clan leader.
"It is over, uncle", he said, feeling there is no point in lying or trying to come up with a story. The older man finally turned his attention to him, resting one of his hands on his shoulder.
"Then stop mourning over it", his finger gently squeezed Neji's shoulder, "She has made the right decision."
Hiashi offered the younger man a sympathetic smile, but in response he only received a blank stare. He could feel the muscles under his hand tense and he moved it away, feeling the hostile energy radiating from his nephew.
"How do you know it was her who made the decision?", Neji asked, his intuition already telling him the right answer.
For all the years he had the chance to observe his uncle, he has never seen him flustered. But now, as he was trying to convince him that he it was just a "guess", he noticed the red tips of his ears and the nervous twitch of his nose and he knew that for a fact he was right the first time.
A member of the Hyuga did indeed visit you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You whole life was built on dependency. A harsh realization, but true. First it was your brother, then it was Neji - there has always been someone who has acted as your safe place, someone you can rely on and be vulnerable in front of.
With your sibling gone and your lover feeling nothing else other than hate towards you, you felt more alone than ever. Sure, you still had some friends visiting you, like Naruto or Ino, but nothing could fill the large gap you felt in your chest.
Every time you got tempted to tell the truth, you quickly reminded yourself that you did this for Neji's own good. You felt silly and stupid for even entertaining the idea that your romance could blossom into a marriage. Maybe you should've pushed him away the moment he told you that he doesn't "date" casually and he has serious intentions toward you, despite being together for only 6 months.
"I've known you for years", he said that day, "and 6 months are more than enough for me to know that there is no one else I want to spend my life with."
That was a year ago and you shouldn't know better. In a world build on old customs and traditions, where the only pursuit was power, there was no place for love.
7 weeks, 3 days and 13 hours have passed since you last saw the young Hyuga. You didn't want to count every passing minute, but it seemed your brain was automatically doing it for you as a reminder as to when have you committed the biggest mistake of your life.
You remained laying on your bed, eyes trained on a small black line on the wall. The memory of how it got there was fresh in your mind - you and Neji were making a list of all the places you wish to travel to one day, when you both started arguing if the Land of Water should be one of them. A verbal bickering soon turned into a tickling fight and you accidentally scratched your pen against the wall, leaving a mark on it. You were angry at him for making you leave such an ugly scratch on the white paint back then, but looking at it now you appreciated it as one of the few things that reminded you of him.
A loud knocking sounded around the house and you buried your head in your pillow.
"Not again, Naruto!", you groaned, your voice muffled in the soft material. The blonde has noticed you have been very cold and melancholic lately, thus making it its own personal mission to come and try to get you out of the house every single day. While you knew he had good intentions, you couldn't help but find his constant visits a bit annoying.
The knock sounded again and you huffed, standing up and throwing on yourself the first house robe you found laying nearby. Making your way downstairs the sound kept getting more persisting, as if the person on the other side was starting to lose their patience.
"Kami, Naruto, are you trying to break my door-", the words got stuck in your throat once you saw who was visiting you, "Neji?"
The man pushed his way past you, rubbing both his hands over his face. His usually perfect attire was wrinkly, his long hair was all over the place and the dark circles under his eyes hinted that he hasn't slept well for a while.
"You lied to me!", he exclaimed, the sudden loudness startling you, "You tried to sell me this stupid story of yours about your ancestors, and your guidance, and your future heirs... And it was so obvious you made it all on the spot! I can't believe I fell for all this nonsense!"
You remained quiet, not sure if he does expect any type of answer or explanation from you or if he just wanted to rant.
"Why did you not tell me he visited you?", he asked, turning towards you with angry eyes and you didn't need clarification about who "he" was. You didn't know how or when, but Neji must have found out about his uncle's visit to your house.
"Should I tell you every time someone drops at my house?", you wanted to light up the mood a bit, but given the annoyed glare the young man gave you, it seemed he did not appreciate your attempt for a joke. You let out a sigh, walking over to the living room:
"What difference would that have made?"
Neji followed you, letting a scoff at your words and crossing his arms.
"It would have given me the opportunity to tell you that you are absolutely out of your mind for listening to him", he argued, his voice cracking in the end. Never have you seen Neji so stressed and unable to control himself, and it did break your heart all over again to witness it.
"He just wants the best for you and the clan."
"If he did, he wouldn't have abolished the branch system so late", he countered straight away and you shut your mouth, knowing you can't argue with that point, "He is old and bitter man, who is so unhappy he tries to make everyone else unhappy."
The shock from his words must have been evident on your face, because Neji let out deep exhale, before crouching in front of you and taking your hands in his.
"I see you", his voice was now gentle and he looked into your eyes, "I don't care for your name or for your Sharigan, or for what you did in the past... I see the real you... and I love you."
The tears you have been fighting finally started sliding down your face and he got up from his position, cupping your cheeks and wiping them with his thumbs.
"I don't deserve... you", you hiccupped, resting your hands on top of his, "And I can allow for you to give up on the clan position because of me, I-"
"I don't care if I become a leader of the Hyuga or not", he interrupted you, eyes seeking yours, "I will give it up without a second thought if that means I can be with you."
"But if we have children-"
"I don't care about that, even if they had an additional third eye on the forehead and all of them were possessing the Sharingan", he assured you, caressing your now damp cheeks. After a second, he added:
"Okay, maybe I would care a little bit, but that is because it would freak me out if they have a third eye on their forehead."
A small laugh made its way past your lips and Neji smiled in return, wrapping his arms around you.
"I am sorry. I shouldn't have said the stuff I said about you."
"Don't be!", your face buried in his chest and you inhaled deeply the lavender smell you grew to love so much, "I should be the one apologizing, I... I just wanted to do what is the best for you. I wanted to protect you."
Neji whispered a quiet "I know" in your hair, while laying a few gentle kisses on top of your head. He kept you close to his body, relieved he finally had the opportunity to hold you again. If it wasn't for the sound of his heartbeat right next to your ear, you would have thought that all of this was just another one of your dreams.
"We are going to be okay", he mumbled, his hands rubbing your back up and down, "As long as we are together, we are going to be okay."
You hummed at his words, before moving your head and looking into his eyes. You have never noticed before, that despite despite the pale colour, there were still different shades of light blue, pink, purple and white in them. Almost like they were holding a small universe behind, you suddenly felt overwhelmed with all the love you felt for this man.
"I see you, Neji Hyuga", you repeated his earlier words, "and I love you."

I hate that out of nowhere, a bunch of people are calling Kakashi a fraud. Saying that "he never lived up to his hype" or "he copied more than 1000 jutsus and only used 3" or "he never had a w", It's something I don't understand, because they never told us that he was the strongest, and also the fact that he always faced the most powerful even without having large amounts of chakra and a kekkei genkai. It's stupid to think that he's being slandered for facing Itachi, Pain, etc. and not winning, as if it were a shame, when they are the strongest and even so Kakashi gave them a fight and made them sweat.
I also hate that all this comes up because they always compare him with Gojo (that is, the strongest in his manga) and the fans don't know how to defend without hating Kakashi for no reason.
Sorry for bothering you with this😔😔
Never had a W? Did they watch him whoop Zabuza and almost kill him until Haku showed up to take the hit? Did they miss that he was fighting Kakuzu without using the Mangekyo sharingan at all? Did they just not watch any of the war arc where he was constantly kicking ass and leading a whole devision???
Gojo is (from what i inderstand) an all powerful character who legit could not be beat and had to be written out by having him sealed away
Kakashi is an incredibly powerful shinobi known for his versatility in skill and intelligence but never painted as ‘unbeatable’ which i think is cool. He’s an exceptional shinobi but he cannot win them all and that’s awesome. It allows other’s to shine without Kakashi being stomped on (like Konohamaru is in Boruto). Even when Kakashi does lose it’s against impossible odds (pein is legit stated as a god like character where as Kakashi is not, and Pein STILL felt threatened enough to have two pein’s fighting Kakashi at once)
With Itachi there’s only one fight itachi won and that was the first one when Kakashi came in unprepared because he didn’t know shit about the sharingan and Itachi (rightfully) used his MS to put Kakashi under a genjutsu that no one except Sasuke could eacape. Like, that alone tells you how much of a threat Kakashi was to Itachi. Itachi put Kurenai (a genjutsu specialist) under regular genjutsu. He whipped out his MS and exhausted himself to take Kakashi out right away instead of risking an actual battle.
Their second ‘fight’ (stated this way since Itachi was not really there and there was no winner on either side) Kakashi tricked Itachi into putting a shadow clone into a genjutsu using his MS (it was the exact same genjutsu but Kakashi was preppared this time and tricked Itachi).
Kakashi is also a character who talks about teamwork a lot and he doesn’t just talk about it, he lived it. He fights with his students. He fights with his friends. He does not take everything onto his shoulders and fight alone like naruto and Sasuke. He is also very aware of his skill level, telling Naruto he needs the back up against itachi but also being the dude who predicts ‘certain death for the 50 nobodies’ in Kakashi retsuden when Nanara asks him how a fight with the sixth hokage vs fifty shinobi would end (and he was right. They didn’t die but he demolished 50 shinobi without breaking a sweat)
Anyone talking like this about kakashi 1) is probably someone who only likes over powered characters which i personally find boring af cuz there’s no risk 2) is just lying. Kakashi win’s all the time and is a little shit in a fight and that’s the best thing about him. He’s not the strongest but he is strong and with his strength comes a certain level of arrogance when he knows he’s going to win.
Man faced Hidan with nothing but a Kunai and wasn’t even really sweating. Kakuzu was more of a threat but again, not enough of a threat for Kakashi to even use the MS
As for the ‘never used 1000 jutsu’s’ like… how is that the characters fault? Kishi decided to always have him spam Chidori instead of showing his 1000+ jutsu. Kakashi retsuden is fun for me because we get to see him use all diffrent sorts of jutsu so anyone who wants to see Kakashi’s range of skills i highly suggest his books because they portray his diffrent skills so very well.
In short: i suggest ignoring people who say that kind of thing. They clearly watched/read Naruto with blinders on and didn’t actually care to pay attention to anyone but their fav. I mean, they’ll probably talk up how strong sasuke is and never address the fact that he took a lot more L’s than Kakashi
And for those who think Kakashi lost all his battles
Kakashi vs Zabuza: Win (Haku saved Zabuza)
Konoha crush: defeated 21 enemy no sweat and then a draw (Kabuto ran for it) against Kabuto
Sent away during the sasuke retrieval arc
Ripped off deidra’s arms and sent him running for it (naruto was also facing him so is that an L for naruto? Or do people just ignore it?)
Kakashi vs Kakazu: interupted, but kakashi destroyed two hearts, three with shikamaru’s help and his work
War arc: defeated multipule enemies including the seven deadly swordsmen
Kakashi vs obito: draw
Team seven defeating kaguya? Managed because of KAKASHI’S plan
Kakashi is also a big reason Gai was able to hit madara while using the eighth gate of death. He kamui’d away a piece of Madara’s protective sphere and gave Gai an opening to actually strike and nearly kill madara

Pie splat deserved
I think it’s obvious that I take in the story broadly through a Sasuke lens and so the biggest reason I hate Kakashi is because of the way he treats Sasuke. There are other reason sprinkled throughout but that’s why I mainly dislike him.
However firstly, I think it’s obvious based on the group of characters I’ve made clear are some of my favourites, but I’m very anti-Konoha and don’t like bootlickers. So that immediately makes me criticize Kakashi and knocks some respect I could have for him off.
Anyways, Kakashi is incapable of treating team 7, most specifically Sasuke but it does affect all of them, normally because he cannot stop projecting team Minato onto his team, and that heavily affects the ways that he interacts and treats his team. He obviously projects himself onto Sasuke and as a result treats him really weirdly imo due to his own self loathing. He teaches Sasuke (a severely traumatized child) the chidori in an attempt to alleviate his own guilt from creating the jutsu that killed his best friend. I really don’t see much, if any, reason that Kakashi did this outside of his own selfishness and he most certainly didn’t think it through in the context of Sasuke. Again, because he views Sasuke as a reflection of himself rather than being his own unique person. He then goes on to literally tie Sasuke to a tree and scorn him for using the chidori (and may I add— while I’m aware Sasuke asked for the fight against Naruto, Sasuke only raised the chidori in defence when Naruto raised his rasengan) and seeking revenge against Itachi (y’know, the man that killed his entire clan, manipulated him, and tortured him by making him watch Itachi killing his family for 72 hours straight), then he LEFT HIM THERE TIED UP TO THE TREE. Not to mention he once again reflects himself onto Sasuke by saying he personally didn’t seek revenge and chose to move on. They are not in the same situation. At all. Sorry but that just rubs on me very unpleasantly.
A lot of my distaste was actually from him in Shippuuden though because his treatment and attitude towards Sasuke just gets worse. When Sakura tries to go to kill Sasuke and he shows up he decides that getting Sakura and getting out isn’t the right thing to do, but decides it’s his turn to try to kill him….. Ehem….. Alright….. Claims that Sasuke has turned to some kind of dark side but claims Obito to still be a hero of Konoha later on….. What a man. Still on the topic of Sakura trying to kill Sasuke, he criticizes Sasuke not once, but twice (later on during a war…. There are bigger things to focus on here) about how crazy and messed up it was for Sasuke to attack Sakura…. When he didn’t just attack her, he acted in self defence after she tried to kill him. But does Kakashi critique Sakura outside of saying she knows she wouldn’t be able to beat Sasuke? No, he doesn’t.
With Sakura on the mind, literally during war arc (once again, more important things to focus on here) he tells Sasuke that Sakura suffers from loving him and that no one needs a reason to love someone, just to hate someone. This is such disgusting behaviour to me as he once again is discarding Sasukes feelings and what Sasuke has stated he wants. Sasuke had literally just told Kakashi how he feels but Kakashi does not care about what Sasuke desires. But it doesn’t matter to Kakashi because to him Sasuke is a reflection of himself and since Kakashi doesn’t view it that way Sasuke isn’t allowed to. It’s a really gross sentiment.
The whole thing of how Kakashi treated Tobi revealing the truth of the Uchiha genocide and the way he reacted to it is also incredibly upsetting. And that revelation still didn’t change the way Kakashi viewed Sasuke at all. He still felt it was right to try to immediately kill Sasuke rather than… Approach him in a similar way to Naruto. But whatever, I don’t feel like getting much into this whole thing though.
There’s other random things, he’s hypocritical within his view of Sasuke’s revenge, I find him overrated as a “powerful fighter”, I personally find him having the sharingan uncomfortable and undeserved, he did not show care for Sakura in the way he did to the other two in classic, bootlicker Hokage, ect., but I’m not going to delve into anything else because I don’t feel like it lol.
All in all I don’t care about people that do like Kakashi, but it annoys be that he’s so often portrayed as someone that he isn’t. I know there’s some good to Kakashi, I find his back story rather interesting as well, he has handled some things well, but the negatives heavily outweigh the positives for me. To Kakashi lovers that decided to read this, you are valid and it’s okay to like him. I just don’t.

What ships from Naruto do you like, except Kakuhida? I'm asking out of curiosity :)
Also your art makes me want to eat tables!!! RAAH!!!!! (/pos)
This is a surprisingly loaded question because I have so many and some of them span for almost 20 years now.
Also, as usual, disclaimer, since I've seen all the ship wars and holywars, THESE ARE ALL PERSONAL OPINION. PERSONAL OPINION ONLY.
(endless yapping below the cut)
In the past:
My first ship when I was 12 was Pain/Konan, and I think that was the first smut I've ever read like period. I was a big cheerleader of Hinata and Naruto/Hinata because I liked that Hinata just minded her business and stayed in her lane while everyone else was going thru shit (Team 8 had the best work-life balance, I think, they just clocked in and clocked out, no shenanigans). Obviously, Temari/Shikamaru and I loved Neiji/Tenten. I think as a kid these were like really fun dynamics. Once the anime reached the Akatsuki I was all over the Akatsuki LMAO.
But now, as a grown adult, I am almost 99% just KKHD, and Akatsuki ships are like the default absolute truth to me, but recently, I've been obsessed with more Naruto Yuri.
Love Ino/Sakura for that double-income spy who owns a secret flower shop/doctor dynamic; it's just nice. Like I am a firm believer that they could have solved their differences by scissoring or something. Also like, I think their backstory is like an insane missed opportunity (but what's written cannot be unwritten, so whatever) because these pages made me feel like I was reading some kind of josei backstory. Like, go ahead and read these pretending this is not from Naruto, and tell me where do u think this could be from.
Tumblr media
Like "pussy from a girl who treats you like a small stupid animal (good until psychic damage hits)"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, I would be like, this is either a shoujo manga, or the next page is older Sakura crying in the kitchen with a photo of Ino or something, and then by the end of the story, they, like fuck in the field or something while Sakura is like "I can't believe my toxic female friend from school has 4 fingers up my pussy!", but this could just be projecting, but I still like the ship. On a serious note, Sakura being a crybaby who was picked on would have been a fun opportunity to play with her character and create more empathy for Naruto within her, but her role was more like tying the two characters together, which worked well, but lots of people were salty, but it pushed people to support her character more so it evens out.
Tsunade/Shizune is like my next super fave, especially after rewatching the Tsunade arc. Tsunade's character is just so well done when it comes to how people cope with grief by doing destructive things, I loved it; Kishimoto is fantastic at mature story beats like this weaved between magical ninja fights. But yeah I loved their dynamic like Shizune is essentially her attendant/pet girl/assistant who is extremely loyal to her, but also nagging in a way and also Shizune is just very animated and kinda dorky while Tsunade is a calm mommy- sorry a mature rich woman of status who needs to be taken care of (nearly blacked out writing this). Their back and forth is just chef kiss, too. Honestly, I think that's my favourite Naruto arc; the first part of Naruto is great when it comes to mundane details that I now have more appreciation for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their auntie banter!
Tumblr media
GODDDDD THAT WAS SO LIKE IT HURTS SEEING OTHERS LIVING THE LIFE YOU DREAM OF
And obviously still love Temari/Shikamaru! I loved that Shikamaru was always very tsundere and going on about how much he hates girls, but deep down is actually like, "Me when a bad bitch tells me to do anything." it's a satisfying way to play with his "character flaw". Seeing him go soft on Temari was like a mini character arc within his already happening character arc during Sasuke's pursuit, like we saw him grow up twice, great stuff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire chapter 235 is just an amazing growth for Shikamaru in elevating the like "men/women" way of thinking to like "what makes a person who they are" way of thinking I really love that. The character is also a great reminder for those afraid of failing btw.
Kakashi/Iruka is my fave, 50% from a historical standpoint; the fact that you can find Kakairu fanfic on Geocities from 2001, and I have some doujins in my collection that are more than 20 years old now is fascinating to me. Love how incredibly loyal the Japanese fans are to Iruka; these guys were holding onto hope for so many years till the Pain arc and then, boom, Studio Pierrot's final Naruto arc!!! It's just incredible fandom history. I love that kinda stuff, love the ship itself too, it's very homey to me, some of the legendary fic they had was fantastic, like entire book's length, incredibly loyal fans.

Adam and Mercury? :3
ask meme
SHIP IT
What made you ship it? - I love it for the same reason why I love MercWhit, the color symbolism baby. I want Mercury to slowly heal from the red trauma that his father instilled in him all his life, and Adam to me has a cooler tone of red than Marcus' hot red, and Adam could have someone who understands him in terms of being abused just for who he is and both of them can rise from their painful past together. I will literally take them from RT and make them go on dates, they cannot stop me.
What are your favorite things about the ship? - I like that both of them are fast fighters who obviously trained their asses off despite their disabilities (fuck you Yang, your Semblance is the same as Adam's) and that both of them have a celestial theme to them. Not sorry lol. Also, headcanon them buying hair gel together and are both Sasuke kins-
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? - I doubt this is unpopular because Adam, but with the way he's written, I do not believe that Mercury would even tolerate him because Mercury would hate abusers because of Marcus. It's the same reason why I now dislike the Hazel-Merc dynamic in any way; Mercury would not stand for abuse of children or vulnerable people in a relationship that they're supposed to be loved in.

u said stop writing vashwood and start writing tween wolfwood but that just made me think... what if tween wolfwood time travel and meet young vash lol
I wish I didn't have to say "of course I've thought about this" but of course I've thought about this.
I haven't sat down and figured out tween!Wolfwood outside of the way I wrote him (so, canon instead of roleswap - Vash in his life changed him quite a bit), but for me Stamp!Wolfwood is most interesting when you really keep in mind that he's (or think of him as) an overgrown kid with an adult's mind in the role of an adult. As usual with Trigun, there's a LOT of ambiguity as to a lot of Wolfwood's details, and I think any attempt to answer the question "so how much of a kid is Wolfwood, anyway?" is doomed to interpretation. The reason why I say 'stop writing Vashwood [solely]' is because only interpreting Wolfwood in the context of Vashwood really limits you in how you can choose to interpret the character. And I think it closes off uh a lot of the interpretations that are more coherent with Stamp's themes and what it's trying to say.
The way I read Wolfwood and Vash's relationship in Stamp, Wolfwood was just aggressively Big Brother Complex'ing all over Vash, and transferring his inability to protect and save Livio onto him. Everything that Wolfwood is and does is because of Livio, and there was a pretty direct comparison between Vash and Livio (and Wolfwood & Livio and Knives & Vash). Stamp's an efficient show, and when the central relationship of the show is about brothers then most relationships are going to be about brotherhood (and humanity, which is Meryl and Roberto). In very, very, very many ways, Stamp is about the exploitation of children and children forced to grow up too fast and grown men stuck in the relationship of children, and Wolfwood is narratively that child.
I'm seeing a lot of fic write Wolfwood as the genuinely world-wise one who Gets How Things Really Work and Vash as the naive one. It is explicitly the other way around. So explicitly. Wolfwood only makes sense if you think of him as Sasuke. He's a lil Sasuke. His worldview is childish. Wolfwood and Roberto's cynicism are two very different cynicisms.
Anyway, all of that to say (and to actually answer your question - sorry for the digression, I just wanted to clarify why I dunked on The Popular Ship lol): tween!Wolfwood would relate to young!Vash identically as he does as an adult lol. Baby Vash is pretty similar temprament wise to baby Livio, so I can see Wolfwood automatically big brother'ing himself towards Vash. Hilariously identical.
But, on the flip side, I don't know if Wolfwood would really like him at all. They cannot be more different. Adult Vash isn't actually naive, but baby Vash is. I don't think baby Vash would understand Wolfwood's Sasuke-osity, and he would interpret it as This Guy's Mean And Bitter And Full Of Hate For No Reason. They just wouldn't get each other. Vash and Wolfwood's relationship is built on how they can recognize each other's suffering - how they are the only people alive who understand each other, how they get each other on a level nobody else does - and without that understanding I think you're just left with the incompatible ideological differences.
So: either Wolfwood would Livio-zone Vash even though they have nothing in common, or they would be so unable to get along and relate to each other that Livio-zoning would be impossible. Yet again I'm sorry for such a long answer jklsadf

Not only was I just thinking about you and your fic just as you updated it, you also wrote Mizuki in a way that absolutely made me disgusted, it was too perfect. Like spot on with some of the guys that have hit on me and one I ended up dating. Absolutely gross, I loved it! Even though it made my skin crawl. Like fuck Mizuki, Orochimaru can have his body if you ask me. And I can't wait to absolutely melt when you get to the point of actually making Kiya and Kakashi date. Is fanfiction off of fanfiction a thing? Because I can imagine it now: they get together and everything around the same time as team 7 is formed, and then Naruto and Sasuke get assigned to team 7, and they gotta warm up to Kakashi one way or another, and he to them, and it all ends up in the most adorable family picnic. Or family vacation. Where Kakashi and Kiya are trying to have a romantic moment or two that the kids keep ruining because they're trying to have a dumb contest, the kind Kakashi and Guy regularly have. Meanwhile Kiya and Kakashi are working on a way to take down Danzo. And both of the boys end up overhearing that goal but never know the reason why they wanna do that. And also I headcanon sasunaru so Sasuke leaves after the exams anyway, and along the way realizes his feelings for Naruto run deeper and so he returns to his family. And Naruto realizes his feelings after training with Jiraya. Kakashi and Kiya are kinda weirded out but they've seen weirder things so it's fine. And as a family, they take down Danzo. But during the fight Danzo reveals what he wanted to do with Kiya which makes both kids rage so hard they don't even leave a single atom of him remain once he's dead. Is there a plot to this? Absolutely, it's called revenge and happiness because fuck Danzo and I want everyone else to be happy. Anyway sorry for rambling, THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE, and I love you baiii <3
omg… you were thinking about me?! hehe I’m blushingggg (*´ ˘ `*).。oO ( ♡ )
I felt horrible writing Mizuki and Kiya’s interactions, but they’re really just all based on past experiences of mine :3 that and I just took every single revolting aspect I could think of and threw them all at him hehehe—self-proclaimed “alpha male”? Check. Constantly interrupts Kiya and refuses to take no for an answer? Check! Negs her at every possible turn? Check, check, check!!!
(AU headcanon: Mizuki is a die-hard Andrew Tate fan)
I feel like we’ve all had shitty experiences with shitty men before (like wtf why are they EVERYWHERE) so this chapter/Mizuki’s WHOLE character is a tribute to all the victims of shitty men (≧o≦) I sincerely hope that the guy you ended up dating did not last long at all, and I hope he got what was coming to him! No one deserves to be treated that way >:(
(but I admit I’m having fun with this—it’s like Mizuki is being put in a public stockade and we all get to throw rotten tomatoes at him :) in a way, it’s nice to see that he’s so widely hated, because WE ALL DESERVE BETTER!!!)
I can’t wait for Kakashi and Kiya to get together, either🤭 there’s been a tiny hint of progress, but there’s still a long way to go until they both stop being idiots and just KISS already 👺
The fanfic of a fanfic is ADORABLE, I love that so much :’) I just want them all to be happy, they deserve so much love <3
And as for the Danzo takedown, there are a million different ideas in my head that are floating around!!! It sort of drives me crazy because everything else has an outline, but Danzo’s demise is just one big question mark🙈 the goal is to have it be a team effort, give everyone a chance to get their revenge, y’know? But then in the meantime Danzo just gets to LIVE until Sasuke’s old enough to beat him up… AHHHH idk idk idk all I know is I want everyone to jump his old mummy-looking ass 😌
RAMBLING IS MY FAV, I LOVE RAMBLING!!! (as we can all tell, I physically cannot shut up… we’re barely halfway through the story and at almost 300k words… oopsie) DONT APOLOGIZE FOR RAMBLING!!!!! Thank *you* for this lovely lovely comment, it was a pleasure to read 🫶🫶🫶
SENDING YOU SO MUCH LOVE!!!! ( •ॢ◡-ॢ)-♡

The fact you also dabble in Naruto is a explosion on my heart, I have so many headcanons i wanna tell you about. I always see a lot of Naruto having top scars but my headcanon is Shikamaru is the one with top scars (Cause im a huge ShikaNaru) I wanna incorporate it into my writing but i don't wanna offend anyone cause i don't have a wide knowledge of the subject. So forgive me if i'm being offensive to anyone. I cannot get the idea of in Shikamaru's Genin years he didn't really care about his chest because it wasn't prominent enough to cause him any problems, he could wear his mesh net with just a jacket, no problems. After he became a Chunin he started growing up, his chest started growing too so he used the vest to cover his chest along with a binder. His parents don't mind, his mom would appreciate a girl but if Shikamaru wants to be a boy she's happy no matter what her son is, his dad is down as well, he's proud to have a son. ANYWAY Naruto one day hanging out with him see's him sitting back without his vest watching clouds together or smg, he grows curious and ask him what that is? why's he got a short undershirt thing? Shikamaru just tells him like it is, cause he's got something he doesn't like about himself, Naruto doesn't prey too much on the issue. After the timeskip Shikamaru has gotten top surgery and he's taking hormone therapy, Naruto thought he was doing drugs the first time he saw him do it. Shikamaru laughed when he said this. Later on some more when they are actually in their realationship Naruto, a alley with 0 knowledge of anything involving gender or stuff like that touches Shikamaru's bare when he's allowed to see it ask what those scars are, he's concerned somebody tried to kill him, once again making Shikamaru laugh. Im sorry to ramble on but i love them and i wanna talk about them.
OMG OMG OMG I LITERALLY LOVE SHIKANARU
transmasc shika omg im gonna collapse, i love to think that he was able to transition so peacefully because he had a great support system, his family was good to him and let him decide how he wanted to dress, and after becoming a genin Asuma just accepted when he said he was a boy, no questions asked !!!
I fully believe he had a crush on naruto since they were kids, but yk there was 'the whole village needs to hate him' thing so he never really got to act on it or interact much. Naruto has his own things going on so he is off to save sasuke and training and really doesn't have it on his mind to think about crushes or romance.
Shika gets top surgery as soon as his chest starts to bother him, he starts taking T, he trains, he's living his life, his crush never quite goes away but it's just something that it's there.
When naruto comes back and they see each other again, he notices shika is different, but like u said, he doesn't think much of it, except he feels Things now. Naruto, to me, feels like a character that does something about things, so if he starts feeling different I can't see him pining silently for years, he's just gonna talk and do something about it, so he does.
I don't think he fully realizes what his feelings are until he talks to shikamaru, shika kisses him on the lips and that's when naruto gets what this all means and what he wants.
I also fully believe Naruto is pan, I don't think he would care about gender at all, he likes people and that's about it, but like u said!!!!!! he also doesn't know a thing about gender, hormones, etc so he is very confused when he sees shika using T for the first time. I think it's very lovely that he thinks someone tried to hurt him when he saw the top scars, I can see them sleeping together and naruto just softly tracing it with his hands and telling shikamaru how handsome he is
ok so i may have gotten a bit too excited here but I'm just very passionate about them okay!! please talk to me more, I'm also open to a lot of ships in naruto

What are your thoughts/opinions about Sakura? Just curious!
I hate her. She’s up there for me with some of the worst characters I’ve encountered tbh. Probably second on my list.
Here's the long answer, if you care. Before I start, I just want to say my opinion (I have a right to one) has nothing to do with ships, just Sakura as a character and the awful taste she leaves in my mouth. This is strictly off of what I consider canon, chapters 1 - 699 of Naruto/Shippuden.
I had a different opinion of her when I started the series at 7 years old. I just rewatched Naruto/Shippuden last month (minus fillers and the dozen or so episodes after VOTE2). As a kid, she wasn’t as bad to me, maybe just annoying, but due to troupes and what was ingrained in me to expect of main female protags, there were moments I glossed over her gross behavior and remember rooting for her. As an adult? She’s downright deplorable. I cannot believe she’s the heroine (because she’s supposed to be, right? The main female protag, I guess, if Naruto counts as having one). This is going to sound very pro Ino, because to talk about Sakura, I feel like you need to talk about Ino. Kishimoto writes in a way where he highlights a character’s flaws and strengths by weighing them against others, so it's unavoidable.
The first time Sakura is introduced to us (we all feel a bit of empathy towards Naruto at this point, I hope) not only does she beat Naruto up first thing in the morning and steals his seat, but by the afternoon after the formation of Team 7, she’s insulted Naruto to Sasuke, saying he’s annoying because he doesn’t have parents to teach him (I’m paraphrasing, too lazy to get actual quotes or screenshots). I’m sorry, but even as a kid, you need to be a special type of messed up to insult someone because of their lack of parents.
Just. Please let this sink in. SHE BROUGHT NARUTO’S PARENTS INTO THIS. UNPROMPTED. I–
Sasuke had to actually say something for her to sit down with herself and reflect on why that was terrible. Like, please think about this, she had no remorse or even a single drop of sympathy about a kid her age not having their parents. I get that other kids in their class didn't care either, but none of them actually vocalized it, or actually brought Naruto's parents into it outright. The insults stayed within the circle of Naruto's unruly behavior or something dumb he did or said. None of them said something so cruel out loud, and Sakura said it to Sasuke no less.
Anyways. Let’s move on. We get to the Forest of Death. Here, we get a flashback to her friendship with Ino, which bothers me on a literal personal level. As someone who values relationships, Sakura really has no respect for hers. We find out that not only was Sakura bullied as a kid (never mind that she bullies others now) but Ino was the one who pulled her out of her shell, helped her gain confidence, and included Sakura in her group of friends. What does Sakura Freaking Haruno do after this? Declares Ino her rival in love, because they both like Sasuke and it's a way for her to tackle this jealousy she has of Ino. Now, Sasuke is his own person and there’s nothing wrong with friends liking the same guy, it happens often. They don’t own Sasuke and they know that. But Sakura being Sakura, the ungrateful little ingrate she is, decides to give back the token of friendship Ino gave her (which helped Sakura find her voice and stand up for herself) and walks away from their friendship, because that’s how strong her feelings of love are, right? Wrong. More about this later. Anyways, Naruto and Sasuke are knocked out and she needs to protect them on her own against the Sound nins. Once the whole Lee thing happens, and the fighting ensues, Ino eventually gets over their childish bickering and jumps out to help her friend because it's the right thing to do (with some nudging from Shikamaru, but still). Ino is a decent enough human being after the altercation to help Sakura with her hair, fixing it up for her, after Sakura's chopped it off. Mind you, Ino-Shika-Cho didn’t have to help her. Shikamaru would have ignored Team 7 to a fatal point (he would have helped eventually, but something worse could have happened if they waited for him to come around) but Ino got them to step up in time (though it was for nothing LOL). Point is, she pulled through for Sakura in a terrible situation, even though Sakura kind of... well, betrayed her? (Yes, Sasuke was also there, but the whole scene was about Ino and Sakura, so really, Ino went to defend Sakura is the whole point). And what happens after Ino's brave gesture? Sakura declares this changes nothing between them. *facepalms*
After, when Sakura and Ino have their match during the chunin exams, Sakura just… basically gets frustrated that Ino had to help her in the forest, and she (Sakura) is still too weak, and blah blah blah, it’s all about her. There was no ounce of gratitude or appreciation, though Ino seems more mature about it. This kind of toxicity is easy to miss as a kid but I just... wow.
Next point. Sakura doesn’t think twice about leaving her parents behind when Sasuke’s leaving Konoha and tells him she’ll be just as lonely and miserable as he is, if he leaves… uuuuUUUUMMMM okay. Not even going to touch how inappropriate that was nor analyze how that must have made Sasuke feel.
I’m going to breeze through the rest of this because I can’t believe I’m still going on about Sakura.
Let’s skip to Shippuden. There’s essays all over tumblr about the next few scenes, they're everywhere. Sai points out that Sakura is terrible for putting such a detrimental burden on Naruto’s shoulders and heart with the promise she had him make to bring Sasuke back. And right after, when Sasuke becomes an international criminal, Ino has no words and just cries because she’s sad over the whole thing, but Sakura, the girl who loves Sasuke oh so much and he's the reason she became so strong, right? Like, he’s the reason she gave up her best friend and everything, yeah, THAT Sakura. Her first instinct reaction is to kill Sasuke immediately, because it has to be her, because she loves him so much - yet, she doesn't even consider the possibility of asking him, just once, why he’s doing what he’s doing. Again. Her gut reaction is to put Sasuke down, like an animal (lmfao she really thought she could, too). And in order to kill him, to have her way, she fake confesses to Naruto, knowing love and wanting love is Naruto’s weakness, after burdening him with that promise regarding Sasuke for years, then lies to him when it doesn’t work, then charges at Sasuke while Sasuke’s literally going blind and having the worst mental breakdown of his life, all after leaving the people who helped Sakura get there defenseless and unconscious in middle of the road via drugs ON FOREGN LAND and –
I wiped her from my mind after all that. Seriously. I did.
I totally forgot she even existed, honestly, once the war started, and then she just - she comes back into the story properly, I guess, and one of the first things she does is charge at Madara and is shocked when it doesn't work and - *facepalms harder*
I cannot believe people like her? For what? I don’t get it. Sakura cares about no one. Her fickle "love" for Sasuke? Please. Someone who can make fun of another person for not having parents, who can carelessly toss aside her own parents, who can walk away from a friend who helped her not once, but twice, and plenty after that when Sakura didn't even deserve it... Sakura isn't truly capable of loving anyone, she's selfish, inconsiderate, manipulative, doesn't listen. Nothing can change my mind on that.
So, as the complete opposite, because Kishimoto, in my mind, wrote Ino this way, why wasn’t Ino the main female protag? This confused me in hindsight. She had the potential, the drive, and motivation. Her character growth, development, emotional maturity, and genuineness (especially after the Akatsuki and war arc) is way more interesting and likable. Well, I guess that’s the point. Kishimoto didn’t want his work to be about romance, at least not a straight one, so having a terrible female protag works in his favor, I guess.
To conclude: Sakura Haruno sucks.

I love all this! I’m going to reread wall fic for the uhh third(?) time with all your behind the scenes stuff in mind! I noticed in your list of stuff you like to talk about, you included Naruto. How/what do you think orv-character(s)-of-your-choice would do in the Narutoverse? (If that’s too odd an ask, just take the compliment and my love <3)
Literally when someone says the word reread to me I swoon; I am swooning currently swoon swoon swoon.
YES I DO LOVE NARUTO. Naruto is my little guy okay. I know that I Cannot Convince other people in good conscious to get into it Now in the year of 2022, but it's just that comfort show for me that when stuff was happening to me growing up I always felt like there was something True to My Life that was happening concurrently in Naruto... Teenage Boy Syndrome smh... ANYWAY my Favorite episodes are Shippuden 209-216 (bc he has a panic attack in 209 and is Going Through It while his toxic middleschool crush attempts to murder the chief of police and then his bestie decides she has to murder their mutual middleschool crush and its so <3 drama). Also Sakura and Hinata are my favorite characters who are not Naruto.
Sorry okay but like you basically activated my trap card here. I'll try very hard to talk as little about Naruto and focus as much on ORV as possible... because this is my ORV blog...
Ummm if you're just asking one to one comparisons here; I think that some of the things that draw me into ORV are obviously things I saw in Naruto because Naruto was sort of a Formative Media Experience for me like before I watched Naruto I was like 12 and didn't have a personality yet and just watched what was popular but then after watching 500 episodes of a show I decided was My Favorite everything else falls into place. So obviously there's the Standard Shounen tropes I just like to see in everything like the emphasis on friendship and bonds in times of crisis and war and the way that Trauma is dissected... Like I always say this but like if you want to help a teenage boy exercise his empathy muscles sit him down in front of Naruto because the ONE thing that Naruto is always doing that it gets called like slow paced for nowadays is that it takes the time to remind you Why You Care about the people who are fighting, why the fight matters to these people, and what their motivations are even if they seem like they're just up and down villains from Naruto's perspective... This kind of drags things out in the end because there's so much time spent building empathy that near the end when Kishimoto decides he needs to have like a Big Bad we kind of get a bunch of weakly outlined OP villains for everyone with a Backstory to unite against (which I suppose is the weakness of dissecting the horror of war so thoroughly despite the fact that your plot hinges on the ever perpetuating and escalating nature of war). Like I think that the End of Naruto where all the ghosts of the characters we care abouts' pasts come back to fight had a lot of potential to Further the themes about how the Current state of society's conflicts is predicated by the egos of those of the past; but a lot of that theming that was heavily emphasized in the Pain arc gets shoved to the side in favor of trying to make "resolution"s to the important characters' personal traumas. Like I REALLY hate the way that Gaara's parents were handled like NO it is NOT curative of ANY of Gaara's issues to just be like "actually the trauma didn't happen :) it was made up :D go be happy now son!" Same thing with the way that the arc between Itachi and Sasuke was resolved... Kishimoto has this habit of only really knowing how to "resolve" a traumatic or tragic arc by backpedalling and saying "No actually it didn't happen like that!" instead of doing what I think is a lot more interesting and saying Yes That's what happened; where do we go now?
WHICH IS WHY I LOVE ORV OKAY THIS ASK IS ABOUT ORV. I think that ORV explores a lot of the same themes that Naruto fans love about the horrors of violence and the perpetuity of cyclical trauma; but like... how do I put this... It actually Knows its doing that? Haha, like, I honestly think that Naruto as a story is very... Raw. You can see a lot of how the cutthroat nature profiteering nature of the shounen manga market effects the production; during certain arcs different ideas and themes are brought to the forefront and you can tell when a chapter is being written for the purpose of introducing a new character or for the sake of one cool moment for the hero... But even still there are times when you really can just Feel that something being written is coming from something Real and raw and just kind of how the Author really sees things... Like Kishimoto often references that the driving motivation of Naruto to help his friend who is going through something dark is related to something in his own life, and I think it really shows in the very structure of Naruto in this theme of always reaching for the past and wanting things to be the same as they were back then... I feel like a lot of people thought the ending of Shippuden is supposed to come off as a resolution to that struggle and got disappointed when him and sasuke didn't get together... but I really like to think that the truth is Naruto's dream was actually impossible; things can't be like they were back then... But they can still be better. He'll never be as close to Sasuke again, they won't have team 7 of his childhood ever agian but... He knows that Sasuke's out there somewhere doing good things, and he just... moves on with his life. Starts a family, becomes a leader... I really appreciate that, actually.
Either way though, there's a lot of evidence that an ending I enjoyed came about purely due to coincidence... It's sort of confirmed that a lot of the decisions Kishimoto made towards the end were influenced by publishers' perceptions of what fans would be satisfied with... And a lot of the end of Naruto really shows like the Evidence of that struggle.
OKAY BUT I SAID ALL OF THAT ABOUT NARUTO BECAUSE LIKE. In contrast, ORV is just sooo meticulously planned and thought out with the INTENTION of being read and being interpreted in this deeper way. Like ORV is the kind of media that like is seeing guys like me who read Naruto and being like... Okay you like that but... Didn't you Want This? And its like yes <333 thank you for having a traumatized main character who never really resolves being traumatized <3 but learns to love and be loved anyway <3 thanks <3333
Like it's like Naruto is this huge field of half extremely juicy grapes half dead ones and ORV is one really well maintained grape plant that's all Juice okay... Like I love that Kishimoto had Naruto Legit Have a panic attack but its hard for me to say whether or not Kishimoto even knows what a panic attack is its like... Do you Know About This Shit or did this just, like, happen to you man. VS singshong like definitely Know what they are doing with like the fucking disassociation aspect of the 4th wall and the way that KDJ's trauma from his childhood specifically dictates his actions in forming bonds with others as an adult and Tried to send YJH to a therapist but picked the guy who set PTSD research back by a century because of his literary clout lmaooo.
OK. Soooo that's just analysis - I think you're asking for an AU so let me try okay.
So if we're making an AU where the ORV characters do Naruto; Kim Dokja has to be Naruto, obviously. I think it's more fun for him to have the typical KDJ trauma than to be just a straight up orphan though, no offense to Naruto being an orphan I was never bored when that fucking swing showed up I was legit always psyched about it like there's that motherfucking swing again the fucking MVP the one and only Child Support in this god damned village, just because it's more true to his character you know. Then I feel like it was really always overlooked how Sakura was kind of the only person in her class who was a 1st generation ninja; as in she didn't have any clan backing and only had civilian parents... She studied on her own and then became the successor of a Sannin just through pure focus and skill and then also she performed surgery in one episode anyway <3. In my head I've extrapolated this to mean that Most kids of civillians Do Not Make Genin rank and there is like class disparity because of that in My Mind okay? Okay. Anyway if Naruto was about KDJ then I think he's the kid of two civilians who someone (Future Han Sooyoung I've decided) hid a tailed beast inside of (the fourth wall the kyubi is the fourth wall here). Same deal with his trauma except the way he killed his dad was with his tailed beast powers, cuz the fourth wall was ordered to protect him at all costs. His mom is a civilian and takes the fall for the gruesome murder so she goes to ninja prison. Wards of the State go to Ninja School I guess bc child soldier is the only life you get or whatever but KDJ isn't really motivated to become Hokage or anything like Naruto is; he just wants to live a normal life and not stand out because he's convinced there's just this Monster inside of him...
BUT here comes YJH. YJH I've decided is from a powerful clan bloodline but is also a war orphan who has been orphaned like. Multiple times. Like he has been adopted and then had his parents die and then adopted and had his new parents die and adopted and had his new parents die and- you get the picture. This is what's giving me his Regressors Depression vibes but he goes to Ninja school driven with the idea that he is going to End War because that's the only thing he has to live for; no one person took any one family from him, its just all the endless conflict makes it pointless to care about anyone at all. KDJ is like kind of uwuing side eyeing him though like because lowkey he thinks that maybe YJH is the only person who could ever really understand him (yes the naruto and sasuke equivalent). YJH keeps getting adopted bc people want to coast off his prestigous clan name; he's basically guaranteed to be Hokage one day, but he doesn't really care. In his mind he's just going to war to kill, there's no idea of Living for something for him. But like KDJ watching him finds an inspiration to live in wanting to help YJH... which mostly comes out as him trying to Compete with YJH, haha.
Then, obviously, HSY is the third of their genin team. I think that she's an heiress of a powerful clan, probably with the sort of creation/brushstroke powers that Sai has or something to do with sealing to be in line with having knowledge and kind of tied to writing... But she doesn't care about this Ninja shit at alllll. I mean, obviously she's not going to let Broody Asshole show her up in the grade results but she just wants to do her service long enough not to have her parents up her asshole about it and then pursue her passion of writing novels...
Obviously then they become a found family style genin group and their dynamics are KDJ being obsessed with YJH and HSY wanting to find out about KDJ bc he's so angsty and is into similar stuff as her but also he's obsessed with YJH which makes him a total mystery like what's wrong with him and then YJH is just like -_- what's the point of caring about these people they'll be gone soon too and then has to slowly learn that these are people who will stand by his side no matter what and are his comrades...
Then the whole thing with Orochimaru- YJH relapses and realizes that people as powerful as Orochimaru (or whatever equivalent we want to have for him IDK Asmodeus lets have it be asmodeus he's equivalently creepy) could take away his friends at a moments notice and that it's not safe to have comrades, to care about people until he's the strongest. So he refocuses on only seeking power and seeing that as the way to stop war.
Meanwhile, KDJ begins to believe that pursuing bonds, trying to understand and read the lives of others, and accumulating as many connections as possible is the way to stop war. When YJH defects he's heartbroken and will do anything to get him back, because he just wants to FORCE YJH to like sit down and let him stop All War for him.
Then with Han Sooyoung: much the same as in Cannon her connection to KDJ is stronger than her connection to YJH, and the importance of her role comes up most in the endgame. Her methodology of "stopping war" is... Time travel! When she was young Han Sooyoung was talented enough to make an advanced form of shadow clones utilizing division of her memories; she would leave one at home to write while the other had to go to school... But one day, when she got home her shadow clone was gone? So HSY's shadow clone just decided to go on a globe trotting tour of the Ninja war because "I'm just a shadow clone anyway. If I die then original me will just have gotten to see some sweet sights!" The shadow clone went on to have a life of its own and eventually comes into conflict with KDJ like in ORV... She's seeking her own end to war by... Inventing time travel? And? Making it so that war just... doesn't happen?
So she tries to go back and find like the Start of War but obviously fails to stop it conclusively and kind of loses her faith in humanity a bit because she's like Jesus Fucking Christ I basically have to commit a Genocide if I just get rid of all the fighty people. Ugh. Guess mass murder is necessary but lets do the least possible.
And then obviously since the Bijuu are the Naruto worlds' equivalent to the arms race from world war II and the post WWII state of nuclear proliferation, HSY time travels and takes control of the 4th wall equivalent kyuubi, Planning to use its powers to stop the war through force. She sees the most vulnerable point in time to grab the 4th wall some time before it's passed to that random civilian kid KDJ... How'd he end up with it anyway?
So she goes back through Kim Dokja's life as an observer at first to kind of just look for the perfect moment to strike and steal the kyubi from him but like... Then she kind of sees the Traged of KDJ. That the only thing protecting him from dying is really the Kyubi... In every fight as a genin... then when he tried to commit suicide several times... then back when his father almost beat him half to death... HSY realizes that without the Kyubi, Kim Dokja is someone who would be doomed to die no matter what; but the tailed beast always stops him. It forces him to hold on until he meets YJH and HSY and then things just get... better.
She's conflicted now, not wanting to pounce and steal the Kyubi from KDJ directly... so she goes back to before KDJ is born.
The 4th wall kyubi was in the hands of some madman who was going to blow up the village they lived in (killing everyone including HSY herself)... HSY just watches it happen at first but then she slowly realizes that no one is coming into stop this rogue jinchuuriki so she like... steps in to do it herself.
And when she extracts the kyubi it... calls her "mother"?
Apparently, in the future, HSY will go back even further in the past and Create the tailed beasts.
And she realizes it's all because she...
She can't let Kim Dokja die.
That person whose entire life she just watched...
Yeah, she would doom the entire world to eternal war just to save that one kid who sat behind her in genin school.
So she puts the kyubi into a sleeping baby Dokja and then goes back in time to invent the tailed beasts lmao. I think that's unhinged so that's why I said it. I think she deserves to be a mad scientist who does immoral things.
Anyway then like they win the great ninja war and all kiss or something IDK <3 (<-kishimoto-esque ending)

Send me a character and I'll tell you:
My NOTP for them
Look I just cannot ship him with a woman in general bc I firmly perceive him as gay. But also like... Mada//Saku. Where did y'all even get that from.
Also Mada//Obi like y'all... if it's ONE thing Obito deserves, it's better than that dkhfkshdks
My BROTP for them
... Tobirama but not even as a BROTP I just like comedy involving two roommates who hate each other. Also Izuna, for obvious reasons, and Sasuke in AUs constructed for my personal pleasure in particular.
My OTP for them
I'm sorry, Kishimoto penned a gay shounen adaptation of Romeo and Juliet with HashiMada and I can't look anywhere else. I'm incapable of it. They have a steel grip on me.
My second choice pairing for them
Madara X ME in which I am his beard and while he's barely at home doing ninja murder for money and fucking other men or whatever I am receiving monthly checks containing half of his month's earnings which I will splurge on noodles and gacha games. Ideal relationship if you ask me.
My fluffy pairing for them
HashiMada but the happy version of it
My angsty pairing for them
HashiMada but the post-Madara's "death" advanced pining and longing for what could've been version of it
My favorite poly ship for them
I could. hypothetically, enjoy Hashi/Mada/Mito but Izuna would have to be alive for it. Otherwise I'm on the train of Madara is a jealous person, especially amplified by the fact that Hashirama's the only one alive he feels so intensely for.
My weirdest pairing for them
MadaGai is so funny, I can't believe someone actually kicked Madara's ass into paying any respectful attention to anyone that isn't Hashirama it's genuinely so funny

one thing i hate that i’ve seen stans do a lot is when they either think sasuke shouldn’t feel guilty for anything and if you think he does then you’re wrong or when they think he should feel extra guilty and sad about everything like man… i’m very much in the middle i think he should be allowed to deal with his very human emotions which include guilt but not be miserable either… sorry for ranting on ur inbox but i like the way u view sasuke so lol hehe
i can see sasuke regretting stuff like being the cause of itachi's death (even if itachi fucking planned that) and trying to kill naruto but i cannot see him feeling guilty for trying to bring justice for his clan. i see people saying that sasuke would feel guilty for things like leaving konoha behind and joining orochimaru or even having him swallow in self loathing to the point he thinks he doesnt deserve naruto loving him because he's a bad person etc etc and its just irks me because it sounds more like people projecting how they think of sasuke instead of sasuke's own thoughts lol

I never asked who are your favorite Naruto characters & why ? My favorites are:
1.)Kakashi (I loved him first. He was the first character I liked)
2.) Rock Lee & Might Guy (A sweetheart he deserved much more than the show gave him). I even watched Rock Lee & His Ninja Friends. I put them together because I love them. They truly made the show hilarious.
3.) Jiraiya (Oh do I miss you toad sage. :( Out of all the deaths on the show this upsets me the most).
4.) Tsunade (She is such a bad bitch. I love her).
5.) Temari (Love her as well. She has major boss bitch energy).
BONUS: Minato (Oh I love him. He is a sweetheart. Also the storyline with him and Kushina is one of the rare things Kishimoto done correctly).
Now on to the juicy stuff which Naruto characters do you hate the most & why ?
1.) Danzo (I really can’t stand this bitch. He is the root of a lot. IF THE THIRD HOKAGE DID HIS JOB THEY WOULDN’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH HIS ASS).
2.) Kabuto (What was his purpose ? So annoying)
3.) Sakura (I’m so iffy with her she has her ups and downs, but for me the negative outweigh the good. I’m very up and down with her).
4.) Sasuke (This bitch. ALOT OF THE PROBLEMS WAS BECAUSE OF HIM. He was so aggravating when going on his vengeance spree causing people trouble for what ? If anything Naruto should be the one whose evil the lead village needs their ass whoop for what they did to him).
5.) I don’t remember his name ,but the man in the early part of the series who threw a mask at Naruto when he asked about it. Can go rot in fucking hell. Naruto didn’t deserve that.
BONUS: To be honest I don’t really hate Sakura & Sasuke they just get in my damn nerves. BUT DANZO CAN ROT IN HELL. -🦑
I’m so sorry for this long post I just love your rants.
that's ok np feel free to keep sending whatever thoughts you have i love hearing them! and unfortunately, naruto is a permanent part of my very being so for the rest of my life i will always be able to discuss naruto at the drop of a hat 😂
if you want my thoughts on ST i mean that's kinda what this entire blog is about, maybe i can make a separate post later on trying to articulate what they mean to me but i think that would be hard to write in a concise way (also should go without saying but the rest of t10/sand sibs. love them too)
so to ramble about some other characters that i love:
ANKO!! i love her soooo damn much. she was genuinely... the first favorite character i ever had. when i was watching naruto as a young child, everything about her absolutely enthralled me. as someone with undiagnosed adhd that severely hindered my life when i became an adult, i think in hindsight it's very.... oh. it is incredibly bizarre for me to think that all of this time, 17 years later...... i STILL cannot think of another character that's an adult woman that lets herself be unabashedly hyperactive???
i don't think i can articulate enough just how much i think the scene where she tries to sacrifice herself to take down orochimaru (with the very jutsu that they taught her in the first place!!) left such an impact on my young psyche. at the time, i... never saw something quite like that in media, and to this day it still makes me feel like "OH!!!"
i adoreee how she got her own filler arc where she's so burdened by the curse mark, but works through her lost memories and comes to terms with how she wasn't abandoned. she chose to left on her own. the rest of the arc fucking sucks but it was framed as such an incredible moment of what it means to have agency over your own life, no matter how horrible of an upbringing you had. it's a shame the anime/manga did absolutely nothing with her after this because i have. SO MANY THOUGHTS.
this is an INCREDIBLY unpopular opinion, but i actually adore kabuto to bits. i usually don't care for villain characters one way or the other, but kabuto is just so fucking funny in everything he does that i think he's hilarious. the way he plays along with being orochimaru's doting underling but also very obviously has his own agenda and orochimaru knows that too LOL. it's comedy gold that naruto doesn't even find out until two entire arcs later "WAIT..... YOU LIED TO ME!??!?"
like. i'm not going to excuse his actions. but his tragic backstory does really, really get to me. of course every goddamn character has a tragic backstory in this series but everything about his in particular strikes me as super fucked up. like the whole "he was setup into killing his foster mother" is fucked up enough in and of itself, but on top of that the way it's presented that he has no fucking clue what his own identity is and tries to constantly completely reinvent himself over and over again at all costs... it's super compelling stuff, that's the kind of storytelling i vibe with. all he knows is a name and a pair of glasses: two things the orphanage gifted him. (... it's especially the fact that it's a pair of glasses that gets to me ummm please know that i am very weak to glasses characters <3)
plus without him, we wouldn't have either ninja info cards or the gif of him swatting away bees. who is doing it like him hashtag #iconic
as you can probably infer from 1) glasses and 2) even if i have zero thoughts on orochimaru themself, i am incredibly fascinated by the way they affect other characters... yes, i also really like karin. i don't have many actual thoughts about her i just think she's neat
to finish it off with one more. well, naruto himself. i have MANYYY complicated, conflicting thoughts about him. (he sure did grow up to a hypocrite!) but... he's still naruto. there's no other character on the planet that conveys quite the same feeling that naruto instills in me. please know about me that i alwayssss fall for the trope where all of the characters pin their hopes and dreams on believing in the charismatic protagonist. this is a feeling i have that is independent from if i think the protagonist is well-written LOL. like... do you remember the two page spread during the war that was just the footprints of the allied shinobi forces that the left behind in the mud as the rain clears, all running forward because they believe in naruto. that's. that's good i like that
this post is long enough but let me just say that UHH i agree fuck danzo <3
