2004 Yarn Drama
Wolsey’s in the paper for knitting This is me pre transition. I’m not sure I have thick enough hair to take dreads these days. Such is the price of testosterone, but it’s a price I happily paid. Funny enough I went to a little yarn shop in my small town and the older boomer-aged ladies recognized me from the paper, probably the dreads, and were MAD! I was told I didn’t deserve to be in the…

Unpopular opinion apparently: if you’re asking for pattern testers, you should at minimum be supplying the materials for them but really should be paying them properly for time/labor to make and market your design, especially if you’re then going to turn around and complain about how no one wants to pay for quality handmade goods anymore. You can’t have it both ways.

in hindsight it's very funny to me watching comprehensive drama videos and when the narrator goes into someone's Shit Opinions And Statements and reading out their posts and just thinking to myself 'oh Brother this guy Stinks'

Fell into a rabbithole today reading about the Wool and Folk fest, a yarn/fiber arts festival that sold almost 3000 tickets and then booked a venue with a maximum capacity of 500. Things went about as well as you would expect from there. Tickets were $250, which is mindboggling to me - for a yarn festival?! - most vendors are reporting almost no sales resulting in huge losses due to the booths costing $900, many of them got stuck outside in the rain with no warning, multiple people reported leaving early because the crushing crowds and the vendor booths blocking fire exits made them realize the place would become a deathtrap in the event of an emergency, there was absolutely no organization or communication in place, everything was just a complete shitshow from start to finish and the organizers have responded with nothing but condescension and passive aggressiveness.
I've heard it referred to as "fyberfest" and I can't stop reading reddit threads about it

I love the fibre arts community because it’s so much about sharing an ancient craft and passing knowledge down through generations BUT it also has the juiciest most bitchy and insane drama that is also hilarious to hear about, we love being THE most dramatic bitches on earth and it is so funny

Shawl 11 | Yarn 1 | Yarn 2 | Pattern
I kinda forgot this project existed for a bit. But it's a lot easier on my injury than my other, larger projects so I'm happy to have found it again.
This is more of a Process Knit than a Product Knit so I wasn't really fussed about how I couldn't figure out a good way to make clean edges on brioche. However I kinda stumbled into a much better way than what I was doing before (which was like, slipping the first stitch purlwise and then immediately jumping into brioching even when it meant knitting/purling into the same stitch under it).
Instead! I'm always slipping the first stitch purlwise. Then the next two stitches are treated like kinda like double knitting (if it's a colour A dominate row, I'd slip the first stitch [colour A] purlwise, bring my yarn to the front and slip the second stitch [colour B] with yarn in front, then bring the yarn to the back and knit the third stitch before bringing it forward again to s1yo. For colour B on that row I would slip the first stitch [A] purlwise, slip the second stitch [B] purlwise like another selvedge stitch, keep the yarn behind and slip the third stitch [A] before bringing the yarn to the front to being briocheing with brp1). Probably not the most efficient way but I could NOT get my tension to work for those first couple stitches, this instantly looks better (the red marks on the second and third images point to about where I started doing this method instead of winging it).

So apparently when I was packing, I packed all my knitting and crocheting supplies to be taken to my mother's house for storage, including ALL my needles and hooks and the one scarf that I was actually sort of intermittently working on, and gave myself a bag of scrap Red Heart Yarn with no means of doing anything to it.
And now I basically can't drive (I mean, I can, and I did go half a mile today to pick up coolant because it was easier than walking with it, but I shouldn't.)
I am being tested.

tbh crochet/knitting drama ranges from she copied my basic sweater to prolife misinformation and worse. theres also the monthly discourse if acrylic yarn bad or not and if its classist to shame those for using acrylic yarn and how ethic it is for using testers/paying testers/etc
