Radical Inclusion has lived within Jewish texts from the most ancient of our beloved stories, and has been a value that we've been learning from for centuries. Come join the conversation of the ages, inspired by our texts to make our Jewish Family a safer, more inclusive, kinder, and more loving for every last member of our community.
This text study will explore wisdom from the Torah, Medieval Commentators, and Contemporary Jewish leaders and clergy. This text study is partially inspired by Rabbi Gischner's senior sermon on the topic of inclusion vis-a-vis the priestly garments, as well as other stories from the Torah and from Jewish leaders who inspire him to co-create a more inclusive Jewish community.
Rabbi Josh Gischner (he/him) is passionate about inclusion, accessible Jewish learning, justice, and artistic expressions of Jewish life and was ordained from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in May of 2021. Rabbi Gischner is one of the founders of Wrestling with Torah, and proudly serves as the rabbi educator at Temple Shalom in the DC area. Rabbi Gischner is excited to help you to discover your Torah.
Wrestling with Torah is a radically inclusive online Jewish learning community created by Rabbi Josh Gischner and Rachel Abrams in the Summer of 2020 to serve as a community for Jews and non-Jews, interested in exploring Judaism and their spirituality. WWT is dedicated to radically inclusive and financially accessible Jewish learning. Please email Rabbi Gischner at [email protected] in advance of this session regarding your accessibility needs and to introduce yourself!

Slides from the Sunday stream (28/01/24):
Week 18 was the last week of October 2023 and week 22 was the first week of December 2023. The slides highlight the events and releases that influenced capturas posted online by the community (Twitter/ Warframe Official Discord - captura channel). Nezhember was hosted by @lightmicke during the month of November. This event had a great influence on captura posts and saw Nezha appear in 80+ capturas. More over, Nezha came 1st in trending during week 19, 20 and 21.
In addition, the last 3 slides are screen grabs from Dev Stream 175 (posted by @medusacaptures on Twitter). They provide a summary of the next update "Dante Unbound" which will include a new Warframe - Dante (second last slide), QOL and a new deluxe skin for Styanax.

Adding water to your outdoor space is one of the most important things you can do for wildlife. It is vital habitat for wetland wildlife like frogs and dragonflies. Creating a barrel pond is one of the easiest, most accessible ways to bring wildlife to your space as you only need a small bit of hard standing land. It’s also great for many species of garden plant, insect, bird and mammal.
We used lot of plants in this barrel pond to show variety. You don’t need to use that many – 3 plants would be absolutely fine for a barrel pond and allows more room for each to grow bigger. Try to pick one with flowing leaves for shade and cover, one with emerging vertical stems, and one with plenty of leaves under the water to oxygenate the water and provide habitat below the surface.
Here are some details of the native plants we have used:
Mare’s Tail, also known as bottle brush (Hippuris vulgaris) – evergreen and a good oxygenator. Can be planted at a range of depths in the pond.
Bog bean (Menyanthes trifoliata) – a shallow water marginal pond plant with starry white flowers in May and June. Cut back after flowering.
Lesser spearwort (Ranunculus flammula) - features spear-shaped leaves and pretty yellow flowers in summer. It can cause skin irritation, so wear gloves when handling.
Yellow flag iris (Iris pseudacorus) – an iconic yellow-flowered wetland plant great for damselfly and dragonfly nymphs to climb out from the pond onto, just before they transform into their adult form. Grows vigorously, so keep in the basket and be prepared to thin back when it gets established. Wear gloves to handle.
Common rush (Juncus effusus) – clumps of bright green vertical flowering stems with brown flowers.
Common water-plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica) – has delicate pinkish white flowers, which tower above the leafy foliage.
Water Mint (Mentha aquatica) – aromatic minty leaves and nectar and pollen rich lilac flowers make this an appealing addition to a pond for humans and wildlife. Spreads easily, so cut back after flowering.
Water forget-me-not (Myosotis palustris) – sprays of small sky-blue flowers with yellow centres draw the eye above water but below the surface, newts may use the leave to wrap their eggs in!
Native water Lilly (Nyphaea alba) – floating leaves are the perfect landing and drinking places for insects such as bees, a great spot for a frog, and they shade the water beneath, discouraging algae bloom.

Talking about race is hard. It often involves hurt feelings and misunderstandings. And the words and phrases we use can either push those conversations forward or bring them to a standstill. One such term: white tears. Young says that when white people use their emotions as a weapon against people of color, it's a form of white supremacy. Excerpt from  When The 'White Tears' Just Keep Coming
Picture it: a white woman feels challenged or uncomfortable about something a Black person said or did. Instead of using her words, she cries. Instantly, no matter what the initial catalyst of the situation is, she ends up being appeased, pacified and pampered.
Lawd knows we’ve all seen virtual white woman tears shut down conversation, even if she was the instigator of conflict. The other person? Ends up being scolded. Or fired. Or arrested. Or killed. When Lorelei cries, heads roll.
Isn’t it the story of countless Black folks who have to work with white women who don’t know how to get anything but positive feedback? Isn’t it the story of why 2 men got arrested for standing in Starbucks? Isn’t it the story of Emmett Till?
White women tears are especially potent and extra salty because they are attached to the symbol of femininity. These tears are pouring out from the eyes of the one chosen to be the prototype of womanhood; the woman who has been painted as helpless against the whims of the world.
The one who gets the most protection in a world that does a shitty job overall of cherishing women. The mothers, sisters, daughters and aunties of the world’s biggest bullies (white men). But the truth is, white women have been bullies themselves because they’ve been the shadows behind the white men who get all the blame.
They have been doing much of the subjugation in white supremacy without any of the accountability, because: innocent white woman is a caricature many have chosen to embrace, even subconsciously. Why? Because it shields them from consequences. We talk about toxic masculinity but there is toxicity in wielding femininity in this way.
The Damsel in Distress reveling is real. Alice drowned people in Wonderland with her tears. Helen of Troy started a war. Miss Millie ain’t let Miss Sophia go home for Christmas. White people will never have to deal with the fact that their skin is considered a weapon but they use their skins as ammunition by using all the privileges that come with it to terrorize the world. White women use their tears as pity me bombs all the time and it often instigates Black people being punished. Excerpts from  About the Weary Weaponing of White Women Tears

In Jewish Tradition, the concept of 'sin' doesn't necessarily mean what you think it means: and it can be a transformational concept that helps us to become better versions of ourselves.
In Hebrew, the words often translated as "sin" does mean all of the negative things our culture associates with the word, but it also means so much more. Everything from a "misstep" or an "oops," to a spiritual moment to make amends and learn from this particular experience.
Come join Rabbi Gischner as we begin the spiritual process of reflecting on our year as we celebrate the first of Elul together, to reflect on who we have been and who we are becoming as we enter the new year of 5784 together.

Lineup of photos on my 2023 wildlife calendar-October to December and two reserve photos to be placed on day boxes
October-Fallow Deer at Bushy Park taken in September 2021
A third place I hold dear that contributed more than one photo to this main lineup and more than one from a single day, with a Bushy Park Red Deer shot (of which I took a few on this day too) from 2020 on my current calendar, doors rather opened up for this fallow I was pleased with from our 2021 Richmond and Bushy Park trip to rise above all others to be my mammal shot I guarantee on the calendar an important group for me. This shot takes me back to the moment well and I find it immersive, and its long overdue as despite being one of my favourite mammals in the days of choosing one photo per month I don’t recall putting a Fallow Deer photo on one before and they are something I photograph a fair bit.
November-Lapwings and Golden Plover in flight at WWT Slimbridge, Gloucestershire taken in November 2021
I had probably wanted to do it for a bit and in this selection period knew I must with a few prominent photos doing it, put on my calendar a photo that was zoomed out with something wild filling the scene particularly loads of birds in the sky. Its just not something I’ve explored much or put on a calendar before, and this one stood out most for me. I think it was the perfect place and time to do this type of shot as a key feature of winter days at Slimbridge are the host of birds around just all going up together. I’d never been here and done it in such sunny conditions before which defined that visit as one of my best photo days in this selection and period and at the time of writing this a couple of weekends ago at least (I doubt it will be topped though with me a bit more efficient lately) the day I produced most photos in this selection period and ever I believe. Seeing such scenes at Slimbridge not only is perfect to have on a winter month as it is winter for me with the excitement of waterfowl and waders migrating back here to join resident birds and create spectacles of many birds, but such scenes also remind me of Sir Peter Scott’s artwork and what Slimbridge is and became for the brilliant WWT and all the amazing work they do for wildlife and habitats across the globe and what any visit to Slimbridge and the other centres supports.
December-Kestrel at Hayling Island oysterbeds taken in December 2021
A late strong photo for me of the many I took in 2021, this one stood out and grabbed my attention instantly as a prominent flying bird shot. Like many on this calendar I was pleased with it and it just has something of an aura about it for me. So much so that I didn’t even mind the fact it means I have two Kestrels in a row on calendars with a Lakeside one in flight in the sun from 2020 on my current wildlife calendar. But sometimes the balancing things out and giving different species a chance for one place at least goes out the window a bit and when it’s a species as majestic as the Kestrel I don’t mind at all.
Below these in the photoset are the first two of my reserve photos being put on day boxes on the calendar, Stonechat at Farlington Marshes and snake’s-head fritillary flowers at Lakeside Country Park taken in January and April 2022 respectively.
