5 Things that annoy me as a reader
Here we go:
1. Introducing a whole lot of characters at once
I don’t think this needs explaining. I don’t like meeting a whole lot of strangers at once in real life, so why in a book?
2. Carelessly adding new characters
I am immensely loyal to the original characters, so any added characters (especially in the sequel) need to be done well, or I will not be happy.
3. Forgetting descriptions during long dialogues
E.g. scene, actions of characters, etc. I need to picture where the characters are and what they’re doing when the dialogue is happening!
4. Extremely long dialogues
Seriously, this gets boring to read. Break it up.
5. A boring or vague synopsis
Be unique! How is your story different from others? What makes it interesting and exciting? Why should I care about the main character?

saw that CDi iceberg chart and am ENAMORED. if i had any suggestions: we swore we heard somewhere that it possible to softlock a save in IM Meen if you leave the book of better grammar on the penultimate floor, making it impossible to fight IM Meen himself. haven't played the game so we can't verify if that's true, but if that's actually the case, that'd be pretty fun to include that you can make an Edutainment Game unwinnable sierra-style. ;P
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that! It's also possible to softlock Meen if you are defeated and lose your items while on the final floor (or the one with Writewell's).
I'll add it to the iceberg when I get the chance.

World’s first online writing for wellbeing community invites people to share their own experiences of what #writingcan do
World’s first online writing for wellbeing community invites people to share their own experiences of what #writingcan do
WriteWell, the online writing for wellbeing community, is inviting writers and ‘non-writers’ alike to take part in its campaign to celebrate the power of the written word. The final result will be a book that draws on real-life experiences to show what #writingcan do to enrich our daily lives. Writing has long been used by individuals as a way to support mental health and wellbeing, whether…

#WriteSomethingEveryDay Do you also have this problem when a particular song is stuck to in your head for a long time, maybe throughout a work day? It created this weird uneasiness. It's nice, but it's also itchy. Only when you finally listen to that song, it stops. Even worse, the music is stuck in your mind but you can't remember which song is that. You try to sing it, you try to remember the singer / actors in the video and search on the web with that reference, but no luck. Only when you listen to that till your heart is full, you feel good. I guess same applies for so many things in life, right? Things are stuck somewhere. Reasons can be many, many a times you don't even know why, they don't bother much, but they're pretty much there, on back of your mind somewhere. Even a little context reminds you of that thing. And then again the itch starts. Brainitch! So I think you should apply the same formula that you use when a song is stuck in your mind - Listen to it - Do it! Do whatever is troubling you, get done with it. It doesn't guarantee that the itch will stop, but you'll atleast do what was supposed to be done. Face it, flush it. Most of the times, the reason to hold back is very stupid. Once we let it go, it's fun. It's hard, remember it's very, very hard!

An extra-silly idea I had for a DnD character/arc
So, in some seaside holiday spot, there’s a priest/wedding officiant who uses confusing wording and strategic mumbling so couples will unknowingly pledge allegiance to some sort of sinister undersea being with their wedding vows.  It doesn’t always work, but it does work often enough for this patron to be quite pleased with their devotee’s little scheme/scam!
In fact, I’ve actually played a PC with this backstory for a oneshot run by @pomrania!
Setis Writewell was a simple-enough person - this half-elf was a scribe and calligrapher by trade, and pretty happy in their normal routine.  Getting married to their beloved (a quick-witted changeling with a sharp tongue) was supposed to be the icing on the cake - instead, they’ve both accidentally formed pacts with some kind of ancient crab-millipede-leviathan thing!
Never allowed to spend much time together, Setis thinks their only bet to getting free of this nonsense is to get more power from their new “benefactor” - hopefully one day enough to break the contract.  ...they just want to enjoy their godsdamned honeymoon!

Job Titles: To Cap or Not to Cap
Job Titles: To Cap or Not to Cap
I’m sure we’ve all seen the following:
I’m a Social Media Manager.
My Proofreader, Jonquil Williams, catches every error.
We’re hiring a Customer Fulfillment Rockstar!
We love Assistant Manager Petra Bukhari’s perspective on limes versus lemons.
Any copy editor worth their salt looks at the above and thinks,
“Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.”
Yes, when people write job posts—looking at you,…

6 Tips For Writing Success
To be published and build a profitable writing career - or interesting hobby - you must be resourceful, determined and totally professional in your approach. Here’s how. Specialise in one or a few subjects
List the subjects in which you have a particular interest or expertise. You may be surprised to learn that you know more than you originally think.  Include valuable or unique life experiences you have had, such as surviving illness, completing courses, gaining specific skills, or experiencing different cultures, and then use this specialist knowledge to write your articles, stories or books. Having a specialised and unusual field of expertise will open up opportunities for you. Be resourceful
You can sell articles and stories using the same basic idea – over and over again - by exploring and re-writing a researched subject from a different perspective to suit the specific interests of the readers of different publications.
Tumblr media
Research carefully
Stick precisely to the guidelines for contributors – available on the publishers’ websites. Each publisher or publication has a particular style and format of writing, and the freelance writer is expected to follow these guidelines. Many writers fail because they have provided material that is not suitable for the publisher or they have failed to follow submission guidelines. Do this research before writing your piece, and tailor your writing accordingly. Submit your best work
Proofread your work carefully, checking your spelling and grammar, and making sure every detail is considered. It is helpful to put aside your work for a couple of days before your final check. This means that you can read your work with a fresh eye. Make sure factual information is correct. Do not insult someone by spelling their name incorrectly. You face ridicule and even legal action if you give unhelpful or inaccurate advice. Ask yourself – what will your target reader want to know about this subject? Never copy others’ work. However, you can use facts that you find, unless it is creatively used in a database. When you contact an editor or publisher, keep your communication concise and relevant. Be business-like in your approach. Start small…
When you start out as a freelance writer, you may be tempted to submit your articles or stories to the highest paying, best known publications. It can be wiser to target smaller publications, which may help you to become published faster, gaining the valuable experience and kudos that you need for future submissions. Consider approaching specialist and trade publications, county magazines, or small-press journals. Write for your local magazine or journal, or charity newsletters. Be Determined
If your work is rejected, try again. However, use these rejections productively to assess your working methods and see where you can improve. Most editors do not say why an article or story is rejected, but often, it is because the editor has enough material or may have already commissioned a similar piece. So do not be disheartened. Why not give yourself a head start by signing up for a writing course at the Academy for Distance Learning? There is a wide range of courses to choose from. Happy writing!
