#just!!!! make a rec list!!!!!!!!! #popularity contests do nothing but drive writers out of fandoms by pitting people against their friends #and invariably result in people being assholes in the comments as if the people who wrote the fic can't see it #like ''oh clearly fic x is better than fic y'' #or ''why is fic c even in this poll?'' #nobody gains anything by you doing a bracket to see which fic is the ''most popular'' #a stat which could be found more easily & less cruelly by simply hitting the sort by bookmarks/kudos button on ao3 #anyway ugh. i saw that one of my fics was being pitted against one of my friend's fics in this bracket that's going around #and i have no idea who is ''winning'' because i refuse to look. but either way it's gonna feel bad!!! #because i want my friend to get his flowers so i want him to win!!! but i also would like to know that people like my fic!!!! #so it's just a lose/lose situation even though i generally don't give a shit about numbers #but this turns it into a schoolyard popularity thing #and the emotional response to having people *vote* on if your work is *better or worse* than other fic is hard to ignore #cannot reiterate enough JUST MAKE A REC LIST #or if you absolutely must do a bracket like this do it in a private chat server or something #don't create a public forum for people to pass value judgements where the authors can see it #and feel bad if they get told their fic is ''worse'' than someone elses #but also feel bad if they get told theirs is ''better'' because it came at the cost of telling another author they weren't good enough #ANYWAY i still feel sick with a super sore throat and a headache & am probably extra cranky because of it #(still testing negative thankfully so it's probably just weather/allergen related) #gonna go make some tea and prep the fic updates i want to post today #cass says things #fandom problems #wank adjacent

(also side note, i think that charlevin is way too popular within the fandom and including them in the poll would take the fun out of it! they do technically fit your criteria for the poll, but because of their fandom prevalence i personally don't consider them to be obscure whatsoever :3 )

The Child Writers at Kid Gets Acquainted with Universe were all fired by Ben Sandwich in an angry outrage. They were touted by Matt Frazier as being "young and hip". i'm not really a dr fan anymore but something that will NEVER stop driving me up the wall is the overlap in dr/persona fans where i would hear things like "oh no. chihiro's not a trans girl. [she] just hid [her] gender because [she] was insecure, didn't you play the game? didn't you see [her] dialogue? what do you mean the writers are transmisogynistic? chihiro said it in-game, 'i'm a boy now!'. [she] was never really trans. [she] was just insecure about being a weak boy. that's a common trope in these kinds of games! [she] even asked for help to stop hiding as a girl before [she] died, see, isn't it obvious? even [her] post-game content has [her] say it outright. why can't [she] just be a gnc man? can't men be feminine? just because [she] dresses up femininely doesn't make [her] a girl."

..................and then these same people would turn around and go "persona writers were so transphobic. naoto is obviously a trans boy". like Hey... hey. hey everyone. why don't we think about this for a second?

(i do not think either of these characters are cis. these characters are both very trans coded, chihiro as a trans girl and naoto as a trans boy. i am not saying these characters are cisgender. this is a post about transmisogyny in fandom)

#this is a legitimate argument i saw btw. the same people would say chihiro wasn't transfem and the writing there was not full of problems #and talk about how persona4 writers were transphobic with naoto's arc #and how him essentially detransitioning makes no sense #..adds the thing at the bottom against weird and bad faith arguments #bracketing chihiro's pronouns because it feels uncomfortable to not use she/her for her but obviously the people making that argument... #are not using she/her. #not sure if this is my place to post abt this because i am tme but it's something that i think abt sometimes #i also see similar arguments with june egbert. not the exact same bc june and chihiro are very different character/situations obviously #but that same stronggggg pushback against a transfem/trans woman character vs immediate accepted 'yay transmasc / man rep!'

The Best Best Original Screenplay: Preliminary Round

Writers are the backbone of film and television. Their work is utterly essential to a project’s success. A screenplay is a blueprint for the cast and crew.

Despite their absolute importance, writers lack the respect given directors or the fleeting fame and glamour of star actors. They aren't even guaranteed the pay and working conditions they deserve, hence the utterly justified strike that began today (5/2).

But there is one night a year that certain writers are invited get all dressed up and be fêted on national television: Oscar Night.

To celebrate writers, the next two rounds on this Oscar-related bracket blog will be devoted to the writers’ awards: Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. By popular vote, Original Screenplay will go first.

As with our previous tournament, we’ll begin with 16 preliminary matches. The top-two vote-getters from each poll will proceed to the round of 32/first bracketed round. The bracket will be seeded by IMDb rating.

The Oscar for Best Original Screenplay has been awarded every year since 1940, with the exception of 1948, when the award was combined with Best Adapted Screenplay to create one Best Screenplay award. Since that year's winner, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, was an adaptation, it is not included in this tournament. (It will be included in our next tournament!)
