15.ai vid with an ask about showing a hypothetical timeline where the Sunset of Genie Twilight's universe had survived her encounter with Cozy and her parents. Basically, it would have prevented Twilight from becoming a genie because I imagine Starlight would have been on that trip to Saddle Arabia too and would have likely wished her out before the time limit ends. Starlight would have also pretty much grown up by Twilight's side with a much happier childhood, helping Twilight and the Mane 6 to save the world, having never done the things she did in Season 5, so she'd certainly have been worthy of eventually ascending to an Alicorn. To already fill in the void of Luna's retirement by the time the end of the events of Season 9 in this timeline.
On a side note, it's now been a year since I first revealed Sunset is Starlight's mother.
I know that's a decision that many people new to the blog are going to experience something of a double take at first. But I've done everything I can to make it fit without it being too weird. The Sunset of the IDOTS universe is older (Not to mention, she never turned evil) then the canon Sunset we know, the Equestria Girls movies were never canon to I Dream of Twilight Sparkle (Outside of when Genie Sci-Twi and her universe's Sunset are involved, but even then that is a different if parallel universe), and I feel it somewhat helps for this universe's Starlight to have a worthy reason for why Starlight's magic power was so strong despite it never really being explained in the show.
I understand of course that the EQG special where Sunset and Starlight met are going to be the big reason why the decision to make them mother and daughter gets some strange looks. But I actually took the time to decide how it'd work, I've considered just about every possible way that people would claim would contradict it. I will at least concede that they don't look very much alike. But I think it's likely that it could simply be a Pinkie case, where traits likely skipped a generation (Maybe either of Starlight's grandparents are closer to her color idk). I feel Starlight has a fair amount of personality similarities with Sunset though. I'll never say I think Sunset is Starlight's mother in the actual canon, but I enjoyed connecting them as such for my blog's story. I loved getting into so much bittersweet but ultimately heartwarming moments between the two.
And it's amusing to think a family decided to have the last names rhyme between Shimmer and Glimmer heh heh. Though those two words also may have something of a metaphor in regards to the IDOTS versions of the characters. While they kind of mean the same thing, when some people think of a difference between when light glimmers or shimmers. If it's a real faint light that can be considered a glimmer, evocative of the tragedy of Starlight's life. While a shimmer is more bright, evocative of the great hero she was.

the youngest nieces of Celestia and Luna
Cozy Glow and Princes Ordomia
two relativity plot important characters to my next gens story lol
Bios under the cut.
Name: Cozy Glow Nickname(s): Age: 27 Pronouns: She/her Identity: Trans Lesbian crush/relationship: Dating Sweetie Belle Parents: Adoptive Aunts Celestia and Luna Sibling: Princess Ordomia Special Talent: Strategy Occupation: Personal Gaurd for Ordomia Location: Canterlot Likes: Chess, Telling people what to do, being in charge, doing what she wants to do, cute cakes Dislikes: unhygienic ponies, being made fun of Bio: After the event of Cozy Glows schemes to rid the world of magic forever failed instead of begin sent to tarturus she simple got away, hiding out and plotting. she still spoke to tirek in letters but beyond that was untraceable. Then when Discord brought her, chrysalis, tirek and sombra all together  they all together schemed to use friendship to do evil. Little did they realize that learning friendship actually, taught them friendship? like who would have guessed. So when the elements and all their friends showed up to save the day something about seeing the power of friendship, what it was capable of it changed something in them. they realized how close they had all become over the last months under the discords underlying lesson. So when twilight and her friends gave out a life line, a friendly hand they took it. Chrysalis would be reunited with her people, each to forgive one another and to grow. Tirek would learn reformation by starswirl and those who knew him and his brother personally. While Cozy Glow went to Cantorlot Castle with the princesses. Cozy still had some work, she  was ready to move forward but still had a tick of scheming in herself. often still getting into trouble. This was taught out of her by her new Aunts Celestia and Luna who home schooled the filly until she learned to behave. learning lessons on using the power and abilities you have for good, to work with others and make changes for the better. Twilight often visiting to continue teaching her friendship lessons like she learned at the friendship school. Cozy Glow more or less became a fine mare as she got older, learning the lessons she was taught well, continuing her friendships with chrysalis and Tirek and rekindling old ones like with the CMC and her classmates. a few years years into Cozy Glows time living at the castle the war against darkness happened, a final all out battle of the elements of harmony versus the Force known as darkness that corrupted ponies and creatures alike into dark evil creatures. Cozy Glow had once let herself be influenced by the Darkness but was lucky to not get infected by it like many have. With her new Knowledge and skills she took to the fight, against the wishes of everyone around her she snuck out. taking her armor and skills she was taught about being a knight she arrived to the fight to help. she was there when the war ended when all the creatures of darkness were released from its influence and the entity 'defeated'. They all say defeated, they shot a big friendship laser and the darkness wasn't there when the smoke cleared. However Cozy Glow hadn't been so sure. She didn't say anything when it happened, everyone was so happy they had won. But when the smoke still spur thick in the area in the spot where the darkness was shot down, Cozy Glow swore she saw two blue eyes look right back at her before it seemed to disappear with the smoke in a gust. She decided it was a trick of  her eyes, the fear and adrenaline from the fight getting to her. she chose to celebrate with everyone else. everyone was peaceful and normal for only a month, that's what Ordomia showed up. A small Alicorn filly, just about Cozy Glows Age maybe just a few years younger at most.a wonky horn, curly purple hair and those blue eyes. the way the silently looked at Cozy Glow gave her the shivers. No one knew where the could have come from, there had only been two recorded alicorn births in the past 1000 years and they had both been off springs of alicorns. Alicorns used to be made by the first but when she passed away an Alicorn could only be made from another alicorn  once deemed worthy which could happen in many ways, but it just didn't seem possible for a filly as young as herself to be able to achieve alicorn status, nor did any of the current alicorn has anything to do with her. their was just no way to explain where she came from. Except, Cozy Glow might know. She kept her mouth shut, she didn't know how she would even say it or what it meant or if she was even right. it was a wild concept but, so was this alicorn. Cozy Glow believed that she came from the darkness. After test and study from twilight and the other she couldn't find anything saying the quite alicorn filly was dangerous, she didn't speak beyond nods and shakes, she didn't seem to know who she was or where she even was. the princesses allowed her to stay in the castle under watch for now. Cozy Glow was put on duty to watch over the young filly. She ended up being the first pony she spoke to, When Cozy Glow told her she was leaving her shift, asked the filly if she wanted anything. She got a reply, something she didn't expect. So she got her what she wanted, some water. They begun to talk, the alicorn again iterates she doesn't remember anything or where she came from. Cozy Glow tells her how she feels being in the castle, a new how you've never been to before. they talked forever, and by the end of his Cozy Glow decided she didn't think the alicorn was dangerous she just seemed scared and alone. they were friends and Cozy would stay by her side, and by her side she stayed as she became her official personal guard. They named her Ordomia, later earning the title of Princess as she showed great dedication to learning the responsibility of being an alicorn with her powers. being known for being able to change things, bring balance to them making sure everything ran smoothly. Its years of the two of them growing up side by side in the castle together with their aunts and growing family. Until the Queen Erroria Situation happened. Watching the mare she called her sister twist and change into that of a monster bent on destruction she questioned if she was wrong to have never said anything. now with ordomia back Cozy Glow has made a wall and kept her distance from Ordomia unsure if she can trust her again.

Name: Ordomia Nickname(s): Queen Erroria Age: 25 (Maybe) Pronouns: She/her Identity: Bi Girl crush/relationship: Crush on Spike Parents: Adoptive Aunts Celestia and Luna Sibling: Cozy Glow Special Talent: Changing thing, physical objects, memories, ect Occupation: Princess, dignitary Location: Canterlot Likes: Helping, Purple, Stickers, cute band aids Dislikes: bright lights, flashing lights, crowds Bio: The Alicorn princess who appeared out of no where. thats what she had been known as across equestria, the young filly alicorn who appeared out of no where in cantorlot. She didn't have any memories to call her own, not a name or anything. she couldn't explain how she got there or why she was the way she was. she was poked and prodded by everyone and their mother trying to figure out what she was or her origins to no avail. Like she appeared out of thin air. And to be fair, she kind of did. Little no anyone, including herself's knowledge she was a vessel for what was left of Darkness. After the final big was of the elements versus Darkness's last surge of power to try and take over it was defeated. believed to have been blasted out of existence. No one saw the small wisp of darkness hurry off in the smoke. This strand of darkness coddled  itself for awhile until it was strong enough, it took shape. Using all it had to turn itself into that of what appeared to be a young teenage alicorn filly, an irresistible target to bring right into the castle, and it worked. The filly had no idea that deep inside itself it harbored a evil, but she walked around for years with the princesses, their elements of harmony and many others who had been affected or have hurt the Darkness. It swelled and grew in power until it was suitable enough for a take over. The tragedy went down one night at a dinner for the family and many other important figure heads who could make it, they were celebrating a good year in equestria and the growing connections they were making with creatures and lands outside of equestria. it was a wonderful night, Ordomia sat beside her best friend and sister Cozy glow, Celestia to her other side who was giving a lovely speech. It was sudden, this weird obsession that suddenly came over Ordomia, like the twitch she gets when she needs to make this right, to fix it. Watching her Aunt Celestia stand tall next to her speaking proudly. Princess Twilight  across the table with her kids looking up proudly at the Sun alicorn who was once her teacher. she couldn't stop thinking about how twilight didn't have her friends with her right now, family dinner, only a few ponies here. Cozy Glow asked her what was wrong noticing that her sister had grown terribly quiet, wide eyed not looking away from twilight. It took over the form of Princess Ordomia. The Darkness, it took her form and changed her. Luna who was all to familiar with what she was seeing yelled for everyone to run but it was too late, the walls were changing rapidly like slot machine images there wasn't any way to escape. Ordomias dark form emerged, Queen Erroria. a tall make out of darkness, corruption and a taste for revenge. She was no longer Ordomia, the soft spoken kind princesses was gone from her mind. after having her bad guy speech Queen Errora disappeared with all the alicorn princesses, young and old. Cozy Glow and Scroll flame were quick to act, looking for help. in cantorlot Splat and her friends and family where celebrating on their own as Happy Daze and Splats combined birthday party was happening. they asked if they would be able to get their parents, disocrd or anyone because they needed help they needed the elements or anything to stop Queen Erroria. They contacted their parents but many wouldn't be able to get their any time soon, far away at work or ect. as well as having to be honest and say, after the big war happened the elements left them, they no longer had control over then because with darkness gone the elements could rest again. Beside if twilight is missing how were they meant to use them anyways. this didn't stop the their kids and friend. Happy daze, Splat, Voyage, Bunny Hop, Majesty and Scroll flame went after Queen Erroria themselves along with Cozy Glow. When they confronted Erroria, a being made of darkness's obsession to get revenge on the princesses and elements was approached by Cozy Glow who tried to make her remember who she was and that she was hurting her family who she knew she loved. Watching Cozy Glow plead with Erroria, and Erroria showing signs of guilt in her face, Happy Daze also step forward to talk to Erroria. all of them reminding Erroria that this wasn't her, she was Ordomia the Princess who loved her family and worked hard to make sure everything was right and ok. she was their friend and a good princesses, this wasn't her, it was just a parasite clouding her mind. this lead to the Elements reawaken, claiming Happy Daze and her friends as the new elements and saving Ordomia. it removed all the darkness out of Ordomia, at the cost of setting it free back into the world. Ordomia is grateful for the help the Chapters of Now gave her, but tends to avoid them now they have moved into the castle. she feels awkward about begin evil and all. Also in honesty its been hard for her to get back into the swing of things, Cozy Glow might have been one of the ponies there for her when she was Erroria but she has been distant since they got back home. Avoiding spending time with her when she isn't on duty watching over her. Acting less like a protector and more as a guard waiting for her to take the wrong step. Princess Ordomia wants to work to patch up the bonds and trust she has broken with the ponies she cares about.

A King For Tonight’s Fentertainment - Chap. 5: Getting Lairs Home, WITHOUT Any Disrepair
Summary:  Where the fuck's Sam and Tucker? Here, that's where. And they might just be a little too protective
As everyone watches as the Fright Knight and Nightmare fly off, Dash mutters, “what the fuck...Fentaco”. Blatantly confused by Danny speaking all regal like.
Red pushes Danny’s shoulder, “wow Danny, not sure if that was political or war talk but you go”, Red looks him up and down, shaking her head, “the whole look is still a bit much. And I still can’t believe this shit. It’s still “what the fuck Danny” worthy”.
Both Star and Kwan run up to Danny, basically dragging Dash along, exclaiming, “wow! That was so cool!”. Kwan elbows Dash, “come on man! It’s sweet”, muttering then, “though kind of messed we’ve been shoving a king into lockers”. Dash glares at Danny’s cape, “Fentable‘s still just a scrawny loser. Nothing could make him cool”.
Danny tilts his head back, groaning to himself, “is this guy even capable of not being a twat? Like fuck man”. Tilting his head back down and giving Dash a loose smirk, “Baxtax, yes I did just bastardise your last name, I’m quite literally the most powerful person of the Human Realm. While you’re just a regular lived mortal human boy, I think my kingly ass is cooler by default. Anyway, home time”. Kwan pretty well has to put Dash in a headlock to keep him from assaulting their ticket home.
Danny flops back down on the ground, crossing his legs. Speaking, slightly annoyed but amused, as he closes his eyes, “since everyone’s gonna pester me about this crap, just shush for now. Big portals actually do take some level of effort”. Danny smirks as Red, blatantly ignoring Danny's request for silence, snorts and mutters, “he says that like making a fucking portal is a piece of cake”.
“Oh it is, here anyway. There’s enough free-floating ectoplasm here to make shit for days. It’s fairly easy in certain areas of Amity aswell. But most places elsewhere? It’d be easier to gargle glass than make portals bigger than my body”.
Ms. Teslaff frowns, “even I’m beginning to see your phrases are concerningly messed up, Fenton”.
Danny flicks open one eye as a swirling green begins to coat the sky, the town air becoming thick with swirling green mist and floating liquid ectoplasm. Danny chuckles, playing with the ectoplasm in the air, “well then, aren’t I just ghoulishly ghastly”. Danny shuts his eye as he opens the portal, so no one would see his green ass eyes. Muttering, “hold on, I won’t be so rocky a trip as that pixie dust turned magic carpet ride into face fucking my secrets, but still”. Danny only waits a few seconds before yanking the portal over the town, sending the town through it and back to the Human Realm. Smirking, amused, as it’s clear a few didn’t take his warning or were too slow. Listening as a few pick themselves up off the ground or grumble about forming bruises. “If you wanna blame anyone for concussions or whatever, I’m sure the winery has a few sales and I’m sure my mom wouldn’t mind leading the attempted, but not really, drowning of two Snow White’s who are not the fairest of them all”.
Danny stands and pats off his pants before opening his eyes. Promptly getting hugged by his mom, who rubs her cheek against his “oh thank you, sweetie! I’m glad we’re out of that filthy place!”. Danny grumbles, “would have been out faster if y’all coulda hushed it, shushed it, and rushed it. But naw, wasn’t y’all’s style”. Danny pushes his mom off him, holding her shoulders while his cape’s lounging over his arms, “and my Kingdom’s hardly filthy, it cleanses itself quite nicely”.
Maddie blinks at him a bit, before placing one hand on his hand, “I, um, sorry sweetie. But it’s filled with those things, and I still don’t get the why. Why take this role? Why claim it? Why lead, rule those things?”. Danny looks around, some folks are just fucking off back home or to hang out. Some of whom are actively avoiding him for sure. But most stick around, blatantly curious about him. But only a few are curious enough to stay/be close, and even fewer to actually speak up.
Mr. Lancer walks up to Danny, looking down at him, “I would like to know that as well, Daniel. You hardly ever seem the type for any kind of responsibility, considering your school efforts and attentiveness. Yet I can hardly think of anything more burdening with responsibility than that of leading a country, an entire world even more so”.
Danny rubs his neck, cape slipping off one shoulder, “tell me about it. But it’s kind of different, ghost royalty and leaders aren’t the same. The jobs easier actually. Paperwork is not a thing for one, the Ghost Zone is and ghosts are pretty well self-governing. Being The Ghost King is more like being a freakishly respected meddling and mingling watchful guide and protector”. Mr. Lancer mutters about how that sounds like more, not less, work. While Danny taps his chin, “I guess there’s a lot of aspects. Sometimes I’m a therapist, sometimes advisor, sometimes negotiator, sometimes babysitter, and sometimes warrior. Heh, well, it all comes naturally sooooo”.
Danny grabs his mom’s hand, patting it, “today’s been a load of ghost alicorn shit but the why is just cause it was the right thing to do. That, and I’m a reckless basket of straight strange. It was my right, my claim. How could I say no? What reason would I have to refuse?”, Danny sighs, his parents' intolerance towards ghost was frustrating and damn stupid.
“But they’re ghosts sweetie, that’s the ghost zone? This”, Maddie gestures at the crown and flaming cape collar, before bunching some of the capes plush and velvet in her hand, “it’s like you’re one of them, like you’re ghostly. You are ghostly, because of this claim you took. You’re walking, conversing, existing; amongst ghosts. And you’re just a kid, a human kid. Yet this, it’s making you live like a ghost”.
Red mutters that she’s just gonna go, muttering about getting back her damn visor while officially feeling rather awkward and not wanting to blow her cover to Maddie. Though Danny doubts he’s really gonna miss her presence, easily seeing Sam and Tucker running over in the distance.
Mr. Lancer goes wide-eyed, putting a hand on Danny’s shoulder, “you lack in your schooling because you’re putting effort towards this Ghost King thing”. Danny nods, earning a disapproving glare from his mom but catches Mr. Lancer's faint smile. Danny’s not really being honest here but hey, when someone handpicks your bullshit get-out-of-a-reveal-free card; you fucking take it. Mr. Lancer nods, “well clearly you care. So I can’t complain. I wish you well in your endeavours. As unusual and ghostly as they may be, though somehow I feel I should have expected you’d go down a path far too strange for regular schooling to do you much good”.
Danny chuckles, “if it’s anything, I do have to be educated on pretty well everything in the Ghost Zone. That’s some kind of schooling”.
Tucker speaks as he aggressively throws his arm around Danny’s neck, making the flames flare up, “yup! He’s the strangest! But that’s freaking awesome!”. Mr. Lancer smirks before stumbling back as Sam practically jumps on Danny, slinging her arm around his neck too, “you stupid idiot! There had got to be a million other ways to fix this fuck up!”. Mr. Lancer shakes his head, hiding a chuckle, as he walks off, waving over his shoulder. The trio watches him go while Sam mutters, “thanks tho...”.
It doesn’t take long for Maddie to speak up again, both unimpressed and worried, “Danny....”.
Danny mentally groans before looking to his mom, while his friends tighten their grip around his neck, basically sandwiching him between them. Bunching his cape up horribly and practically pushing the collars flames in his face. Speaking, muffled, as the flames obscure his mouth and dance in front of his eyes, “gurfs lift murch, lurk tuf srphek”. Danny spits out bits of cold flame while his friends apologise and give him a little wiggle room; not much though, just enough so he’s not getting a mouth full of cold fire.
Maddie tries not to be bothered by the flames reflecting in her son’s eyes as he talks, “mom, I know. This is all very ghostly. But that’s damn fine I’d say. I’m happy, if a bit weird and messed up”. Danny shrugs to get his friends to loosen up even slightly, but they don’t; which just makes the act of shrugging slightly painful. Flicking his eyes upward to reference his crown, “this has more worth, meaning, importance, value; than human schooling. It’s a choice I made, recklessly sure, but it’s mine and I like it that way. So I guess just, like, take that knowledge and not be pissy? Maybe? If you could? Yeah, that’d be great”.
The two stare each other off for a beat before Maddie sighs, “but it’s so...ghostly. Ghosts are evil...this, it’s wrong. Like being the lord of evil....”. Danny blinks finding that sounding like one hell of an escalation and rather absurd. Almost like she was trying to call him the freaking devil. Which well, some did see the Ghost Realm as the underworld so ‘devil’ wasn’t exactly far off. Quirking his mouth up, “uuuuuuhhh...is that a no?”.
Sam puffs her cheeks out, forcing Danny to squint his right eye. Sam snaps, “ghosts aren’t damn monsters. They’re good and bad, just like humans”. Tucker nods and glares defiantly at Maddie, “and Danny dude is, like, the goodest fucker around”.
Danny mutters, “that’s not a word Tuck”, shaking his head as much as he can, “but anyway...”. Danny locks eyes with his mom again and taking a step closer to her, dragging his friends along in the process. Sighing, “evil isn’t a thing, not really. And yeah, I am one of them in a sense. Definitely ghostly and, considering your guy’s profession, defiantly so. And yeah, all of this makes me more ghostly than even some ghosts. Many actually”, Danny spins around his ring, prompting Maddie to glance at it quickly, “I’ve got more ghostly power in the palm, or well finger, of my hand than they do. But it’s cool, I’m cool, we’re all cool. Well...you’re not, not really”.
Maddie shakes her head, glancing back down at his ring before speaking, “how could I be ‘cool’ with this? How can you be? Being made ghostly, even if still living, even if still breathing with a beating heart; how is that remotely ok?!? You live, but this is making you live like a ghost!”.
Danny grumbles into his collar flames, “nothing can make me do shit”, chuckling and laughing quietly, “cause I’m da boss”. Shaking his head and clearing his throat, “er, um, no. I willingly chose, opted in, decided towards, agreed to; this. Nothing is making me do anything, again, I am not and was not forced into shit. This shit is my own shit, by right; and right’s always a choice in the end of shit. I’m with the ghosts, my people, my subjects, my citizens; on this, with this. I could say vassals or underlings but that wouldn’t be quite right”, chuckling, “they don’t exactly act subordinate”.
“They would if you actually exerted control, you’re too soft boy”.

HC: Moondancer
I hate that Moondancer is made to be Twilight's bitter carbon copy, right down to her design. Overall the show kind of portrays introverts as evil and/or rude assholes. I don't see Moondancer like that. I think of her as a salty, sassy, commanding mare, with a hint of pettiness and a dash of superiority, yet still an well-meaning introvert at heart. Just because she doesn't take anybody's shit doesn't mean that she's an ass. Well, she's mostly not a complete dick. Sometimes.
Moondancer was raised primarily in Canterlot, a student of Celestia's (boarding) School For Gifted Unicorns. She had strong magical power from the start, and her being accepted into Princess Celestia's good graces only focused her more on her goal.
Since she was a young filly, she had to watch her older half-siblings-- Sunset Shimmer, Sunburst, and Starlight Glimmer-- rise to beloved students of the Alicorn Sisters, and not only had they both abandoned Celestia, but Moondancer too.
Her mother Stellar Flare's pressure and her father Firelight's constant cooing honed Moondancer's wish to succeed, to be her aging parents' golden child; their good legacy. Maybe then, they would stop comparing her to her sisters and brother. Maybe they would stop missing their runaway children, if Moondancer could become everything they had both wanted for their kids.
Moondancer put emphasis on trying to be a Canterlot filly. She grew colder to her friends, more resolved to let others play while she focused on rising through the ranks. Soon the only pony she would still call a friend was Twilight Sparkle.
It seemed that Twilight was just born with her abilities, her overreaching smarts. That fact become clear to Moondancer as Twilight became the best student, even as Moondancer had been working so much harder than her. A resentment began to fester for the purple filly. It was unfair, blatantly ridiculous, that Twilight Sparkle could do these things so easily compared to Moon. Twilight didn't deserve the attention; what had she done to get it? Be born? Even that was for her mother to thank!
As the seed of their inevitable failed friendship was planted, Moony also began to have a fixation with her friend... She began dressing like her, and even styled her mane the same way. Moondancer turned into a recolored mirror of the girl she would soon hate. Perhaps if Moondancer had all the same qualities as Twilight, Celestia would pay her mind...
That hope was shattered the day Celestia announced Twilight as her pupil.
The dislike Moondancer had held for Twilight grew into hatred. Twilight did nothing to earn her powers, NOTHING. Why wasn't Moondancer good enough? She was. She is! Moondancer deserved to be in Twilight's place. She deserved to be the apple of Celestia's eye, not some common kid! Moony deserved to be Twilight.
Under Celestia, Twilight would become reclusive to her studies. Her desire to be with her friends would slowly start to fickle. Her contact with them was irregular throughout their childhood and even more into adultescence. Meanwhile, Moondancer had become obsessed with being top dog.
Moony wormed her way into popular, wealthy social circles, hoping the Princesses would notice her (she became Blueblood's acquaintance through this). She threw herself into her studies, but to a much unhealthier extent than Twilight. Her sleep schedule was chaotic, she would go days forgetting to eat, and didn't bother with personal hygiene anymore, preferring to just pull her mane in a ponytail and be done with it.
Moondancer put on a smile for her friends-- Lyra Heartstrings, Minuette, Lemon Hearts, Twinkleshine and Twilight-- because they did still mean something to her. They offered her an escape from her worries, insecurities, and addiction. She valued them highly, but not as much as Twilight. She still thought Twilight didn't deserve what she had, but her unreceptive rivalry had a twinge of something else. She wanted to be Twilight, yes, but at the same time, she wanted to be with Twilight... A part of her wanted to share Celestia, for Twi.
Eventually, Twilight Sparkle fell back into their lives naturally, and was again a more prominent (if not unappreciative) friend. With Twilight back, Moondancer began to leave her shell. She realized that Twilight was just a pony, like her; that she wasn't something to be hated over who could cast spells better. She was Moondancer's friend.
And that all crumbled when Twilight ditched Moony's party. But you know her story from there. Humiliated and abanonded by the pony she cared most for, Moondancer felt rejected, like she truly wasn't good enough. She wasn't enough to be anybody important, much less the special somepony of Celestia's pupil. Moondancer wasn't a golden child. She was a failure, just like that voice in the back of her head had always whispered. She didn't deserve the things she had-- not yet, anyways.
The light and joy Moondancer had once found with her friends flickered out. She lashed out at them constantly, missed their plans and left them hanging, all in favor of studying to be worthy. Quickly, they were gone from her life.
Years passed before Twilight would return to reconnect with what she had thrown away like trash. In that time, Moondancer became a lonely, frustrated, surly stranger, to herself and to Canterlot. Her interactions with other ponies were short, curt, and filtered by harsh words on Moon's part. She had pushed away her doting parents, her only friends, and ponies she didn't know, because that voice still told her that she wasn't powerful enough, pretty enough, good enough to lead a happy life.
Then the so-called Princess of Friendship crashed back into Moondancer's life with half-baked apologies and clear embarrassment. Moondancer saw through this. Twilight wasn't back because she felt bad, she was back because she wanted an excuse to not feel guilty. As soon as Lyra, Lemon, Minuette, Twinkle and Dancer had accepted the Alicorn's sorries, she would be gone again.
Moondancer refused to give Twilight the luxury of feeling just. She refuted Twi's efforts at every turn, until the Princess set up a party for Moony. In a fit of rage and emotion, Moondancer lashed out at Twilight, finally breathing her frustrations out. When she's done, she crumbles in tears, like a scared foal.
And yet, Twilight helps her. Maybe if she's worthy of Twilight's forgiveness... She has value in this world after all. Perhaps it wouldn't be so terrible for her to be happy.
In time, Moondancer manages to believe in her own self worth. She whole-heartedly navigates the uncertain path to friendship with her old group. It's too much to really be close with Twi, the object of her obsession for years, but Moondancer hopes that someday, she can be Twilight's best friend again. And yes, that's all she wants for Twi now. She let her mane down and found who she is again.
That isn't to say Moony becomes a sunshine and rainbows lady. There's nothing wrong with being an introvert. She just became a less rude figure to friendship, more open about her good heart, ready to help, and open to discuss her feelings.
Her scars had mostly healed by the time she met a mister Zephyr Breeze. Given a second chance at being a Royal Guard (favor to Fluttershy), Zephyr was tasked with being Grand Duke Blueblood's escort. While the pair crossed Moondancer, Zephyr Breeze decided to give it a shot at flirting with the mare. Moon's reply was "fuck off and die, good sir." She didn't even bother looking at him.
The pure disinterest Moony held for romance seemed to strengthen Zephyr Breeze. Blueblood's daily walk around Canterlot crossed Moondancer's way to the library she owned, so Zephyr ran into her many times. At every dumb, cheesy pick-up, Moondancer got more and more flustered. Zephyr took this as her surrendering to his charms (i mean who wouldn't right).
Blueblood flatly argued against that. He saw the failed pick-ups as pathetic, and Moondancer was probably just getting pissed by now. Zephyr Breeze wasn't on the track to romance, or even just getting into Moon's bed, he was simply an idiot.
Zephyr Breeze taunted that if Blueblood knew so much about mares, why didn't he have one for himself? No pony would reject him, Blueblood replied, all of Equestria loved him. Zephyr responded with mocks, so Blueblood decided he would prove it!
Just as Moondancer was about to walk by them, Blueblood stopped her and asked her on a date, pouring all of his superficial charm into his honey-glazed words.
And Moondancer's retort was the same. Except this time, she looked into his eyes before she brushed past them. "Fuck off and die."
And so the two stallions began competing for Moondancer's hoof in dating. They showered the lady in compliments, gifts, and showed off whenever she was near. Slowly, Moondancer warmed up to the idiots, enough to call them somewhat friends. Moondancer walked up to them when the two were having a hissy fit over who she would choose in the end.
She shrugged and said, "we'll see, shitheads."
Years later, she became a Grand Duchess of Canterlot. Her other husband Zephyr loves calling himself Canterlot's Prince.
Other notes~
- Moondancer wears a golden wedding ring on her horn, a black sweater, red bowtie and a pink skirt.
- During that "i'm not worthy of anything" phase of her life, Moondancer developed an eating disorder. Back then, it made her feel in control. She looks bad to that and cringes.
- Zephyr Breeze eventually quit his job as a Royal Guard to pursue his dream of being a hairstylist full-time. Blueblood helped getting him a job at a homey, plain barber shop, which Zephyr Breeze would turn into a flashy, high tell establishment for celebrities.
- Shortly after amending fences with Twi, Moondancer turned Twilight's old tower into a functioning library. She works there part-time. Her main gig is a teacher at her old school.
- Stellar Flare is the mother of Sunset Shimmer and Sunburst, whose father is decreased. Firelight is Starlight Glimmer's dad, whose wife left Starlight as a foal. The pair got together when their respective younger kids (Starlight and Burst) were away at their boarding schools. They dated for a long while, eventually marrying and having Moondancer, who is a decade younger than her youngest half-sis Glimmer. The two are still together in the Parent Map. So yes, Starlight and Sunburst are step siblings in Harmonyverse.
- Moondancer was Lyra's best mare at Lyra and Bonbon's wedding. In Harmonyverse, Bonbon and Lyra are child-free by choice.
- Moondancer lost contact with Starlight during the lilac pony's cult years. She knew nothing of Glim's actions back then. She now is pen pals with her big sister. Moony also got back in touch with Sunburst.
- All of Moondancer's kids were surprises, but welcomed with open arms. It doesn't matter who their "real" father is (Zephyr or Blue), because they both are. Their childrens' names are Lady Winifred Evelyn Aaliyah, Lady Midas Miriam Marquita, Lord Jupiter John Herald, Lady Bellevue Alice Tallulah, and Lord Gale Maximus Rigel.
Jesus fuck did I get attached to this one-off or wHAT. I wuv my petty salty bitch. Don't use this headcanon in your own works without permission from me and don't use my art either ✌️

Jealousy
It just wasn’t fair. Sunlight Blade was loyal, he was appropriately pious, he did everything he could to honour his patron goddess and her sister, her niece and her student. He offered prayers, protected her, offered up regular offerings to them all...
Will I never be rid of this curse Celestia? Why must your perfection haunt me so?
Sunlight Blade’s melancholy had returned, a brooding, malodorous feeling he just could never properly shake. Looking out the window of the grand library of Canterlot, across the cityscape. Idly, he noted he could point out where each statue of Celestia was, and even where his church was. For some reason, this thought annoyed him mildly, but considering the prospects of other thoughts in his head made him grimace as they, inevitably, returned to his mind’s eye’s perfect recollection of Celestia.
Which, naturally, affected his mood for the worse once more.
Twilight Sparkle, the greatest mage of our age, taken under her wing from foalhood, and now ascendant, joining the ranks of the Goddess’ family, and taking students of her own now?
The idea bothered him, and he thought of Starlight Glimmer uncomfortably. She was, undeniably, both pretty and kind. She really had changed since her days as a malevolent dictator and thief of cutie marks. She’d turned into a fine young mare. Trying to help the clearly disturbed filly that had tried to steal all magic from Equestria, fighting to try and save, to reform, the mad queen Chrysalis herself. Master time manipulation magic (Though, that was to be kept under wraps from the general public).
“I wouldn’t be shocked if she were next to join them,” he muttered to himself disconsolately, “I’ve worked my entire life for such a shot... it’s not fair.”
As soon as he’d said it, he felt guilty. It wasn’t fair of him to think ill of Starlight. She’d never done anything to hurt him, and she hadn’t asked for all of this, for the opportunity to learn under a goddess. She didn’t even share the belief that the alicorns were divinity! And again, the guilt hit him like a train at such traitorous thoughts.
Sunlight, what is wrong with you?
“She’s been nothing but kind to you, and this is how you repay her?” He scolded himself quietly, “Pathetic, traitor. What would Celestia think? She probably hates me.”
Another brick wall of guilt at even considering the idea of Celestia hating any of her little ponies, but he just couldn’t help that thought. It was a plague in his head, the fear that, in his pursuit of being the perfect guard for his goddess, that he, instead, made her resent him, even dislike him. She was always so kind but.. She was kind to everypony, how could he expect her to be any different to him?
He looked down at the book on the windowsill before him, secluded in his little alcove as he was. It was the one Starlight had suggested he read. He’d only made it maybe a chapter or two in before he’d been overwhelmed with these thoughts. Perhaps it was another reason he kept himself so busy with work. Because outside it, or whenever he was on his own, such traitorous thoughts came back, and dug at him. Doubts, fears. Self loathing. Jealousy. He couldn’t tell anypony. How could he? He had to be strong, right? For his Goddess, for his beliefs, his fellow guards. It’s what guards did. What they were. The bulwark that defended the Goddesses, and their interests.
But to think so lowly of a pony that had worked so hard to turn around her life... He couldn’t help but let his mind swirl with the implications.
Am I... Am I a bad pony?
Anyone observing might have noted, though it may have been a trick on the eyes, the vibrant colours of his coat lose a bit of their vibrancy, of their colour. Perhaps just a trick of the light?
No good pony would have such horrid thoughts. She’s worked so hard, who am I to judge her? Who am I to presume to know the will of the Goddesses? Such arrogance. Such pretentious tomfoolery.
“Such shame, I bring to myself,” he breathed, looking out across the sun kissed city through the window once more, “To believe I could ever be worthy enough to approach godhood. To believe I deserve such a gift over another.”
A quiet moment passed, and all Sunlight could hear is the traitorous beat of his heart, hammering his ribcage in guilty supplication to his slights against those he would dare call his friends and deities. He could feel it in his throat, threatening to choke him, and in the way his forelegs shook as he reached to take up the book again, giving him pause as he tried vainly to bring the traitorous limb back under control. He could hear the drumbeat in his ears, in time with the blacksmith that was his heart, hammering at his ribs.
... I need to get back to work. Taking a day off was a mistake.

Confrontation
“YOUR MAJESTY!” shouted an armored, gold coated unicorn as he ran into the throne room, slamming open the doors. “I HAVE IMPORTANT NEWS FOR YOU!” A large black binder held in silvery magic floated next to him.
“Yes, Lieutenant Chalice?” Princess Celestia asked, sitting upon the throne. At the base of the dais stood Captain Steel Thunder, his head tilted, and an eyebrow raised.
The unicorn looked to the captain. “Good, you are here as well.”
“Why is that, lieutenant?” asked the grey pegasus.
Chalice took a moment to adjust his armor. “Because you need to explain,” he stated, opening the binder. “Why you have allowed a KILLER into the Royal Guard?”
     “A killer?” inquired the princess.
“Yes, your majesty,” the officer haughtily replied. “A cold-blooded killer.” He flipped a page in the binder. “The guardpony named Shadow Star.”
The guard captain scowled, “That’s a heck of an accusation, lieutenant. What proof do you have?”
The gold unicorn held up the binder, “In this file are numerous instances where the pony known as Shadow Star used lethal force!” he pulled several pictures out of a pocket in the binder. “Just look at the destruction, the, the, the…” Chalice stuttered, holding out the pictures for Steel to see. “Horror that this pony is capable of!” He gestured at a picture. “She pinned a griffon to a tree with a unicorn twenty-five feet off the ground!!”
“Twenty-seven feet and four and a quarter inches to the point of impact with the tree,” Thunder muttered, causing the unicorn to pause. “To be precise.”
Princess Celestia looked upward for a moment, then returned her gaze to the lieutenant.
“Lieutenant,” Captain Thunder spoke softly, concern etched on his face. “Why do you have these?” He held a wing over the pictures that were being held up to him.
“I wanted to know more about this…” Chalice paused, as if looking for the proper word. “Monster, that you are wanting to promote to sergeant.” He adjusted his stance and leaned his head back a bit, looking down his nose at the captain. “And what I found is DISTRUBING!” Gesturing towards the princess, the unicorn continued. “How could you let this THING near our dear sovereign?”
The princess stood up from the throne, her eyes riveted on the black binder.
The captain glanced up at Princess Celestia and then sighed. “Lieutenant, this is a sealed file, sealed by court order,” stated Steel. “What gave you the authority to break this seal?”
“I am an officer of the Royal Guard!” Lieutenant Chalice called out, straightening up more. “And I have a duty to know who is under my command!”
“Shadow Star is NOT under your command!” snarled Captain Thunder, anger in his eyes. “She is under Bonfire’s command!”
“That doesn’t matter!” the unicorn snorted. “I am an officer and I have the authority to look into any personnel file that I see fit.” He jabbed a hoof at the pegasus, shaking the binder. “And with you allowing a MURDERER-!”
“ENOUGH!” Celestia called out, her golden magic ripping the binder from Chalice’s mystical grasp, pictures following close behind. “Platinum Chalice, you had no right, no cause, and no authority to break the seal on this file!” She placed the pictures back in the pocket they came from. “You are relieved of duty.”
“But your majesty!” cried Chalice, stepping toward the throne.
The ringing sound of steel echoed through the throne room, as a dark shape slammed down in front of the unicorn. Platinum Chalice found himself facing a dark purple mare, dressed in smoky grey armor, six swords floating next to her, three to each side, and a spear held in her front hooves. The mare was already taller than most ponies, but standing on her hind hooves, she towered over the unicorn.
Shadow Star stood between him and the princess.
Even with tears streaming down her cheeks, the dark pony’s brilliant green eyes bored into the stallion with an intensity that cause him to shrink back. The golden unicorn took a couple of extra steps away from the guardpony, swallowing hard.  “I… I… I knew you… couldn’t be trusted…” stammered Chalice as he tried to push down the fear that gripped him. “You would even threaten a superior officer!” He looked up at the princess. “This MONST-“
     “BE SILENT!”
The powerful Royal Canterlot Voice echoed throughout the throne room and beyond, causing all the ponies in the castle to jump. Princess Celestia stood at the edge of the dais, her wings spread and anger clearly visible on her face. “Platinum Chalice,” the majestic alicorn stared down at the wide-eyed unicorn. “You have been relieved of duty. You are no longer an officer in the Royal Guard. You have broken the oaths you took when you donned the uniform.”
“I recommend you remain silent.” Captain Thunder whispered to the stallion as he opened his mouth.
“Captain, escort Mr. Chalice out of the castle, and see to it that the guard is notified of the change in command.”
“Yes, your majesty!” stated the pegasus, snapping a salute with his wing. He turned to Platinum and gestured to the door. “Let’s go!”
“One thing, Chalice, before you leave,” Celestia called to the unicorn. “Remove that armor. You are no longer worthy of wearing it.”
The gold stallion looked between the royal pony and the captain, then began to remove his armor. “But, princess…” He started to say but stopped as the princess glared at him. Platinum looked at the guard who stood between him and the alicorn and scowled.
Shadow watched as the unicorn removed his armor, never relaxing her stance, staying between him and her charge.
It didn’t take long for Platinum Chalice to remove the armor, tossing it to the side. “I’ll make yo-“ he started snarling at the mare, but was cut off by the captain pushing him.
“Quiet!” barked Steel as he started to direct the unicorn towards the great doors to the throne room. “Let’s go!” He commanded, marching Platinum towards the exit. “OPEN THE DOORS!” called the captain as the pair approached. The massive doors swung open and the disgraced unicorn was escorted out of the room, the doors closing once they had passed beyond.
Shadow stared for a moment after the doors had closed and then dropped to her front hooves. Her spear floated to her side and the swords returned to their scabbards. She pulled off her helmet and wiped at her eyes with the back of her hoof. “My apologies, your majesty.”
“Whatever for?” Celestia gently inquired, walking down the steps towards the purple mare.
“I spoke out of turn earlier,” responded Shadow, her words shaky. She sat down, continuing to wipe at her eyes, attempting to calm her breathing. “And a guard shouldn’t breakdown while on duty.”
“You didn’t breakdown,” the princess calmly pointed out. “You performed your duties admirably.” She moved in front of the guardpony. “And you didn’t speak out of turn, I barely heard your whisper, and it was quieter than what usually goes on in court.” The alicorn sat down facing Shadow and used her wing to wipe away a tear on the mare’s cheek. “I’m heartbroken that you had to experience the things in this file.” She nodded at the black binder being held in her golden magic.
Shadow took a shaky breath and looked over at the binder. “Better that I took those actions,” she stated, drawing herself up again. “Than let others suffer a worse fate.” Closing her eyes, Shadow took another breath, beginning to force her emotions back down.
Celestia pulled the guardpony to her, wrapping her forelegs and wings around the mare startling the pony. “No, child.” She squeezed Shadow with her embrace. “Holding it in will only have it build up until you break.”
For a moment, Shadow sat stunned. Then the tears started to flow again, and sobs echoed in the throne room. “I AM a MONSTER!” She buried her face in Celestia’s chest. “I’ve ENDED lives!” Shadow held onto the alicorn, years of pent up emotions flowing out. “I never even HESITATED!” Celestia allowed the young pony to cry, holding her in a warm embrace.
After what seemed like hours to Shadow, Celestia spoke softly to the mare she cradled, “You are no monster.” She pointed to the binder that now rested on the floor. “I’ve seen the reports for all of the incidents.”
Shadow looked up at the princess, her eyes red.
“You acted in defense of others,” Celestia helped the mare sit back up straight. “and those are not the actions of a monster.” Using her magic, the princess picked up the black binder and set it upon her throne. “You are a kind soul, Shadow. Protecting and caring for others.” She tilted her head and asked, “How have you been handling this?”
“Meditation, reciting my oaths, performing my duties,” was Shadow’s response.
“Oh, my stars,” said the sun-marked alicorn softly. “Have you been having nightmares?”
     “Yes, often.”
“There are some ponies that I want you to speak with,” stated Celestia as she released Shadow from her embrace. “They will help you deal with what you have been through.” She stood and gave the purple mare a warm smile. “I will speak with the captain and he will get you scheduled to meet with them.”
Shadow nodded, then opened her mouth to speak.
“It is not weakness to get help,” Celestia stopped the guard from speaking. “Everypony needs help sometimes. I don’t want you to lose yourself.”
“I was going to say thank you, your majesty,” Shadow softly chuckled, sniffling.
“Oh!” the princess chuckled as well. “I’m used to warriors like you not wanting to ask or receive help.” She smiled. “I’m happy that you are different. You are not a monster, or a horrible pony.”
“I know that,” Shadow said, tapping her temple with a hoof. “Up here.” She moves her hoof to her chest. “But my heart, is another story.”
Celestia placed a hoof on Shadow’s. “Your heart won’t listen to me, but the councilors will be able to convince it.”
     “Thank you, princess.”
“Let’s go get some ice cream, that always makes me feel better when I’m feeling a bit down.” The princess stood and offered a hoof to the purple mare.
Shadow smiled as she accepted the offered hoof and stood. “By your leave, your majesty.”

PART 1
A long time ago, when everything was still chaos, one of the first kingdoms on the planet Zefiro emerged, integrating the majority of the equine population and all its sub breeds. This great kingdom was called Equestria and it was ruled by two noble goddesses of great beauty, and their advisor Star Swirl. Celestia, the older of the two, occupied the position of goddess of the sun, the light, and peace. Her objective from the very beginning was to unite all the tribes inside the territory of Equestria to strengthen them and try to reduce the constant attacks from the dragons and griffins, since her lovely ponies were their favorite meal, causing them to live in terror. The youngest occupied the position of goddess of harmony, feeling incredibly impotent upon watching how her lands became desolate thanks to the chaos of the young and unstable planet, the continuous murders, and everypony demanding them both to end this horrible cycle of pain and fear one way or another. Twilight knew that Celestia’s efforts were in vain, no matter if she could unite all these ponies in order to stop the dragons and griffins… They would never be a worthy opponent. They were too weak, lacked fangs, claws, and their intelligence wasn’t greater than their adversaries. They were simple prey. The only thing that could put a permanent stop to all that would be true harmony and amnesty between their races, and that responsibility fell solely upon the young goddess’s back. Twilight, like every day, was found on her library. She had already read all the books about harmony that existed on the face of the earth, and none of them could give her a true solution. She felt hopeless, heartbroken; she wasn’t capable of bringing harmony anywhere, and not even her ponies knew how to stay together. She thought she was created for this purpose, and the only thing she had experienced to this moment was pure failure. A light knock on the door took her out of her thoughts. She didn’t say anything, a sign for Celestia to invite herself inside and carry a blanket with her magic. Twilight always fell asleep on the middle of her studies and did not like leaving her library even for a well-deserved rest. Celestia placed the blanket over Twilight’s body while she sat next to her, giving her a compassionate look. “Twilight, how long has it been since you last slept?” She looked away with a tired look. “I don’t know… I think three or four days. What day is it?” “We are on fall’s 14th moon…” “Hmmph! Don’t remind me of her again…“ The young mare cut her off with a small grunt upon remembering the other goddess. “It’s been three years since she’s not given us any signs of life. She was supposed to help us with this problem… Or at least that’s what she promised us.” Twilight grumbled in annoyance. Celestia put a wing over her back to comfort the stressed empress, and said empress sighed and rested her head on the white alicorn’s neck in return. “I am sorry. I just don’t know what to do anymore… Every day, ponies die and wars do not cease. Peace accords in exchange for our lands are unsustainable, they ask for too much, and we’re keeping very little land to work with. Winter will be arriving soon and we may go through a period of hunger… We need to find a solution.” She got up to go find another book. Celestia sighed, knowing there was not much she could do to help her; all her tries to get her away from her library always were in vain. Silently, she left, leaving the lavender mare alone.

One Spell Mare.
(So I decided to post this after some time, mostly because I’m a lazy ass. Anyway, here ya go! Here’s the original link by the way; https://www.fimfiction.net/story/311804/1/one-spell-mare/one-spell-againdarn-it)
In hindsight, Twilight blamed Starlight Glimmer for this.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t her fault entirely, but Twilight felt the majority of her problems could be blamed on Starlight now. Ever since that adventure through time, Twilight couldn’t help but notice that she was….well, really bad at fighting. Starlight had said she didn’t have a lot of fighting experience either, but that didn’t change the fact Twilight Sparkle, Alicorn Princess and the Element of Magic, hadn’t been able to force anything more than a stalemate between the two. It was really something of an eye opener for Twilight, and so, during that relative period of peace, which consisted of “no monster attacks are happening right now but will probably happen soon” Twilight had decided to train.
Oh, nothing like reading ancient spell books to increase her repertoire of magic, but, you know, training. Push-ups, sit ups, and running/flying 1km every day. The reason for that was simple, Twilight had simply figured that she needed to train her body first before she got into anything more advanced like combat techniques or tactics. After all, it was simple building blocks, you couldn’t know how to chart a graph without knowing what an ordered pair was first, and you certainly couldn’t learn how to throw a pony without getting some muscles first.
Oh sure, she was now one-third earth pony and one-third pegasus, but that didn’t change the fact that she was born a unicorn, and a “egghead” who liked to spend most of her time indoors reading books and as such, left her body somewhat underdeveloped. Running from monsters usually did wonders for her cardio, but there was a distinct lack of giant creatures attacking lately, so that meant no running anymore, save for the fall Running of the Leaves.
There was the occasional race from Rainbow Dash, but they didn’t really help. She wanted to train her body, not get left in the dust by her rainbow haired friend. Even if she did have a nice flank, Rainbow Dash’s attitude towards leaving her behind wasn’t helping matters. Applejack, on the other hoof, was a lot more helpful with her training. As it turns out, bucking Apple trees a lot harder than you’d think, especially when you had to make sure that not every single apple fell on you.
This went on for a period of about four months, and during that time, well, there was still no monster attack.
That was until the fifth month.
From out of nowhere, (at least Twilight thought so, she wasn’t paying attention at the time) a Chimera of all things came hunting for Apple bloom...or Applejack, Twilight didn’t care really. It ravaged the town, so that put it on the list.
The battle was hard fought, buildings were destroyed, muffins were stomped on, and flower mares had fainted. But after the dust cleared, Twilight and her friends had emerged victorious and the Chimera was banished back to wherever it came from. The wounds Twilight had sustained were the worst of the lot, but a few quick healing spells and she was back at one hundred and back to her training routine.
That is, until, the next day.
A Diamond Dog was there, and seeking revenge on Rarity for...something, and naturally, Twilight leapt to her defense. At first, Twilight tried words first, after all, diplomacy was the bedrock of any relationship, but the Dog wouldn’t hear it.
So that meant he got a free trip to Canterlot by way of a spell blast to the face.
Celestia’s letter to her was either written in anger or in laughter, Twilight couldn’t tell through all the scribbles, but the gist of it was that the Diamond Dog landed in Jet Set’s pool and that the royal guard had to flush him out using oversized fishing nets. Apparently it was also shedding season as well, so that meant a lot of fur stuck in the pool.
Oh well, Jet set and Upper Crust needed a vacation anyway.
Thankfully though, for the next few weeks, it was relatively quiet. No book messages from Sunset, no calls for aid from the crystal empire, hell, the Griffon territories didn’t need anything taken care of at the moment.
So, naturally, Twilight became bored.
Now, boredom, at first, wasn’t that bad. After all, being bored meant nothing bad was happening aside from the occasional lab mishap or Rainbow spraining a wing during their races. But...it sorta meant all the training Twilight was doing was pointless. If nothing bad was happening, then what was the point? The map wasn’t helping; it wasn’t beeping like some kind of...inter-transcontinental messaging device!
Wait, didn’t Sunset have one of those? She mentioned it in a report once...Cell...Bone? Book? Cell Book? Or was it Sell Book? Twilight couldn’t remember.
But then, out of nowhere again, it seemed like her prayers were answered.
Queen Chrysalis had returned from the badlands, Changeling army in tow and hell-bent on seeking revenge. At last, Twilight would have a challenge, after all, this bug queen once matched Celestia in power!
….Okay, that was due to a love-power boost and convenient timing. Apparently Celestia had a cold at the time and was hiding it through basic illusion magic, who knew?
But still! Chrysalis was a powerful foe! Worthy of Twilight’s new power!
At least, that’s what Twilight had thought at first.
One solid telekinetic spell blast to the face and the Queen went back to the Badlands on an express trip.  Needless to say, the army soon followed her, voluntarily.
So, yeah, that killed Twilight’s boredom for about two minutes, which, in a way, was worse. Getting your hopes up then finding them fall short was...an unpleasant feeling to say the least.
So yet again, Twilight was bored.
Trixie came around again, that was nice. If anypony could match Twilight in magical prowess it was her, Starlight didn’t count due to the fact, well, Starlight was Starlight and not fun to measure against. Sides, Trixie always brought flair to their contests, she was fun to match wits against. Sunset was also out of the running because she was out of practice for...how many years? Ten? Twenty? Twilight wasn’t sure, interdimensional time was strange. It could be a fun problem to solve, but that could wait.
Anyway, back to Trixie. To both her glee and disappointment, Trixie wasn’t there to fight her, she was actually there to apologize for the Amulet thing and ask for the hatchet to be buried. Naturally, Twilight told her in no uncertain terms that Trixie was never at fault to begin with, after all, she wasn’t the one to summon the Minor Ursa and the Amulet had some magic corrupting thing going on. Things like that were a bit-a-bunch, there were even royal guidelines about what to do if you were recently corrupted by a magic trinket.
So, once again, Twilight was bored and out one rival.
But then, out of nowhere for the third Celestia-damned time, King Sombra appeared and had taken over the Crystal Empire!
Apparently there was something going on with his horn and he was somehow speaking complete sentences this time around instead of just “CRYSTALS!”
When she asked him about that, he just muttered, “Corporate Contract” in reply.
So, one….almost cinematic battle later, and Twilight stood victorious.
Again.
It took her even less effort than the last one!  It wasn’t even a spell! She just flew up to him and punched him with her hoof! Her hoof! Just one punch! Then he exploded into a dark powder or something! She spent the rest of the day cleaning him up with a vacuum and putting the remains into a jar which she kept on her nightstand. The powder then grew eyes and a horn, a very tiny horn that was absolutely adorable. Strange thing though, every-time it...he? Looked at her, it would squirm back in sheer terror. No clue as to why.
So, yeah, she was bored again.
So, nothing left to do, Twilight went back to her spells and research. Of course, every time she tried to, some random monster would appear interrupting her research. So of course Twilight would fly out and blast the thing back from wherever it came, to go back to doing research, then another monster attack and so on and so on.
An endless cycle of repetition and boredom. Some of the monsters looked cool, but none of them were really….threatening. One of them had green lipstick and flew around in a chair thing flanked by some purple creature and a...Human? Twilight wasn’t sure, were they capable of transforming? She asked Sunset about that and Sunset had said humans weren’t capable of transforming into anything unless magic was involved.
Twilight didn’t think magic was involved, but the lipstick wearing one kept going on about how, “This isn’t even my final form!” or something, so Twilight just sent him...her… into far orbit with a hoof to the face.
Her….his...lackeys soon followed.
So, yeah, really, really, bored. But more than that, she was disappointed. It was like preparing for a difficult math test only to discover it was all just combining like terms.
It was particularly an insult; no pony could offer a challenge anymore when all it took to win was one spell. When she related this to Celestia, whom in her infinite wisdom merely said, “Twilight, shouldn’t you feel happy you are strong enough to defend your friends?”
To be fair, she sorta was, really, but….her friends really didn’t need defending. Rainbow Dash was still the better flyer, even if Twilight was starting to outpace her in sheer speed. Applejack was still the better fighter, Fluttershy was friends with Discord and woe to whoever thought harming her was a good idea. Rarity was surprisingly skilled hoof to hoof, and Pinkie Pie…was Pinkie Pie.
So yeah.
Eventually, Twilight managed to discover ways to tap into alternate dimensions like Starswirl the Bearded once did, all she needed was a focal point.
And she had already been to a few alternate dimensions recently, so that left a few options in her hooves.
And in retrospect, Nightmare Moon was proving to be a really good challenge so far...but…
“It still feels like it’s missing something.” Twilight finished, “Like I’m not really being pushed to my limits. You know?”
Celestia stared at her, then pointed upwards.
Or rather, downwards.
Twilight looked up, down? At the planet above her from her seat on the moon.
Coughing, she rubbed the back of her head, “Alright, I may have let her catch me off guard with that banishing spell...hehe…”
Alternate dimension Celestia or not, she still had that same questioning look that got under Twilight’s fur each and every time.
“I’ll uh….Go solve that now….I’ll just...you know…”
“My faithful student.” Celestia began causing Twilight to squirm uncomfortably.
“You know, I’m not this timeline’s Twilight….Just saying…”
“My faithful student.” Celestia said as if she hadn’t spoken, her horn alight to keep the magic shield up that would allow them to talk on the desolate surface of the moon, “I understand your need for excitement, but was coming to an alternate timeline in order to pick a fight truly the best idea you had?”
“Well….It’s just….” Twilight coughed to buy some time, it didn’t help, “....Kinda?”
Shaking her head, Celestia sighed, “Well, there’s nothing for it. Unless you have a way to get back to Equestria, we are both stuck here, I am sorry.”
At that, Twilight perked up, “Oh! Don’t worry about that! I can get us back really quick!”
Celestia raised an eyebrow, “What’s your plllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN-”
Nightmare Moon heaved in heavy breaths, her entire body sore and bruised, just who was that purple Alicorn? She showed up out of nowhere and picked a fight! Who does that? Recurring Saturday morning cartoon villains?
Oh well, it didn’t matter now. It may have been dumb luck that spell landed, but it still worked, that purple Alicorn was now stuck on the moon, she may have utterly ruined her castle and wrecked the majority of her forces, but she was now gone! A few of her soldiers and staff were unhurt for the most part, especially that rainbow haired one and the one that was her tapestry designer, they were almost completely unharmed.  In between gasps of breath, Nightmare Moon made a note to ask them why the Alicorn didn’t bother fighting them and why there was a kiss mark on the rainbow one’s face.
Oh well, at least now her sister would have comp-
“AAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN-”
What was that?
And why did it sound so familiar?
Before she even knew what happened, the castle parlor behind her exploded with cataclysmic force. The very cliff side shook as immense pressure was suddenly put on it from above, turning around, Nightmare Moon’s jaw dropped.
There was the purple Alicorn, completely unharmed, beneath her was a crater formed from impact. That was at least five feet of solid marble, how did she….
No…
Nightmare Moon gaped, “How...how did you…”
“Oh about that...Ahhheeeee…” The Alicorn rubbed the back of her head, “I jumped.”
“.....You what?”
“I jumped, from the moon.” The Alicorn repeated.
Nightmare Moon’s jaw was now only barely attached to the rest of her skull. There was no way, that’s…
“Impossible?”
Nightmare Moon looked up, oh good grief, if this kept up, she wouldn’t have a jaw anymore.
There was her sister, holy and radiant wings flapping in the air above them both. But that was the only thing holy and radiant about her, the rest of her looked completely haggard, like she had been stuck in the wrong end of a wind tunnel.
One eye twitching involuntary, Celestia looked at Nightmare Moon and shared a look of empathy, “Trust me dear sister, seeing is believing.”
“....How?” Nightmare Moon gaped, “I sealed you in the moon!”
“You released me when you sent this mare to the moon.” Celestia said, gesturing to the purple Alicorn.
“It was sorta a crash landing.” The Alicorn said, shrugging.
“....Who are you?”
“My name’s Twilight Sparkle.” The Alicorn introduced herself, “Just a pony who’s a student for fun.”
“..........GRAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Throwing herself forward at the Ailcorn, Nightmare Moon disappeared in a blur of movement as she rushed the damnable pony with a flurry of attacks. A tempest of spells and hoof strikes that this Twilight had no way of following, no pony, not even Celestia could keep up with this speed!
But she did.
A hoof to the chest plate sent Nightmare Moon flying back through the castle wall, shattered it behind her as she continued on. Skidding to a halt and damn near crippling her legs as she tried to brake, Nightmare Moon spat out blood as she came to a halt. A rumble escaped from her throat despite the pain.
“.....Ha….”
Was she laughing?
“HahahahhHAHAHAHAHAH!”
Oh yes, she was laughing.
“Is this….fun?” Nightmare Moon asked herself, bloodshot eyes looking at the Alicorn who stepped through the hole she created.
Twilight Sparkle, that was her name.
“You...you are powerful!” She laughed as Twilight came closer.
“Thanks, I put a lot of work into it.” Twilight said modestly.
“You are worth it….You are truly worth it!” Nightmare Moon chortled.
“Oh, thank you. But I already have eyes for somepony else.”
“My full power!”
“Oh.”
Leaping into the air, Nightmare moon felt her heart beat.
“Prepare yourself!” Unbelievable power began to gather in Nightmare Moon’s horn, vile twisted magic called from the deepest recess of her soul, the darkest magic, called forth from within to obliterate this upstart mare!
“FINAL ECLIPSE:  METEORITE CRASH!”
“Oh, I get it, the moon is essentially a big rock and should it fall it could cause-”
“RRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHH!”
“Oh right.” Composing herself, Twilight Sparkle stared at the glowing mass of pure magic being formed at the top of Nightmare Moon’s horn. As she did, a streak of light, grayish olive appeared on her mane and tail, “Well, since you’re using your ultimate move….”
With one last mighty cry, Nightmare moon unleashed her magic. A black beam devoid of any light or color approached Twilight at eye bleeding speeds.
“I’ll use mine.”
Enveloping her hoof in magic, Twilight watched as the beam came within spitting distance, then pulled herself back.
“Serious spell: Serious hoof.”
And for the lack of a better word, she punched the beam.
Luna, Princess of the Night, slowly opened her eyes. Above her, she saw a glorious, and somewhat funny sight.
“Luna...are you okay?” Celestia asked, her mane in complete disarray.
“Sister….” Tears welled up in her eyes, “I-I’m so, so-”
“Ssshhussh, it’s alright.” Celestia took her sister in a tight hug, “It’s okay, it’s over now. You needn’t worry anymore.”
“W-what happened?” Luna asked, why did her cheek hurt? “I remember...a purple mare...her name was...Sparkle….”
Celestia smiled warmly, “It’s okay sister, she saved you. Though I must say, I am somewhat confused as to the how.”
“What do you mean?” Luna asked.
Celestia turned away, “....Oh, nevermind.” She said after a moment, “It’s not important.”
“But I must thank her!” Luna said, “She freed me! I want to...to…”
“One thing at a time Luna.” Celestia said sweetly, but took on a solemn expression, “But...I’m afraid that the mare that freed you has left. She came when she was needed, and left when she wasn’t.”
“....She’s gone?” Luna said, “But….why?”
“I do believe she said something to the effect of “Maybe Tirek will give me a challenge.” Celestia said, and at Luna’s confused look, the white Alicorn shrugged, “I do not know either sister, but I do have a feeling that if we look hard enough, we can find that mare again.”
“We will?” Luna said hopefully.
“I’m sure of it sister.” Celestia nodded, “In fact, before she left, the mare who freed you had a message for you.”
“She did? What was it?” Luna pressed.
“She said: “If you ever find me, don’t ever let me become too strong. Because if I do, then all it takes is one spell.”
“....That seems terribly anti-climactic sister.” Luna pointed out.
Sighing, Celestia rubbed her head, “Trust me Luna, I know.”
Meanwhile, in another universe…..
Twilight coughed and looked at the broken, beaten body of Tirek.
“Well….That was boring.” She muttered, walking away and opening a time portal as Tirek whimpered something from under the rubble his face was in, “Back to one spell….Darn it.”

Realisation
The award ceremony was reserved, withdrawn. Commanders, the princesses, common soldiers, grieving families. Honoring the dead as much as the living, with many posthumous medals being given out in light of the heroic actions of many of the lost souls that had taken part in stalling the enemy.
Sunlight remembered having a medal pinned to his uniform. Several of them, in fact. A Blue moon, for suffering wounds whilst serving against the enemy (many were given out this day, all for the lost, all for the wounded), and more reverently, the Gold Sun medal, a medal he didn’t feel he deserved. Given out to those for heroic acts in the field of battle, that would have saved many. But, a good soldier, he didn’t complain as it was pinned to his chest. The last words were what caught his attention.
He was being awarded one boon of his choice and, should it be within Celestia’s power to grant it, it would be done. Technically, he could have made the argument that both princesses should have something to do with this process, but Luna had stepped back, with the reasoning of Sunlight being ‘Her guard’, and a soldier in her ranks.
He vaguely remembered being told to think on it, and approach the next day to request his award, before finding himself staring at the mirror in his room. His room at home. With his father, and his mother. The medals shining in the fading light of the day.
“I know my words before you left were harsh.”
The voice came from beside him somewhere, and he looked over. His father, the ever grizzled and feared Sunlit Spear (Well, feared by rookies at least) had, at some point, entered his room, “And I know we didn’t part on the best terms but…”
“Dad, it’s alright,” Sunlight stopped him quietly, “I was stupid, and thought myself invincible back then. I thought that war was glorious, and that it was only right I volunteered for it.” he looked back at his reflection, looking at the scar down his face, his arm, still in a sling, and his other arm, which he’d been having phantom pains in since he got back, “and I learned otherwise. I lost my friends, my innocence. I lost my foolishness, but the cost….”
Sunlit nodded quietly, unable to look at his son. Unexpectedly, Sunlight approached him and hugged him tightly, “I heard you pray you know. At my bedside. I thought you stopped being Celestian?”
“I did… but I thought, if she could keep you with me, maybe I’d been wrong all these years. C-C’mon, your mother’s got dinner on the table, and you’re gunna make me cry. I don’t do crying.”
Sunlight almost smiled.
The morning came with a quiet chirping of birds, and Sunlight felt a bit out of place. Months he’d been home already, and he still wasn’t used to hearing things be peaceful. But, dressed once more in his formal uniform for the Royal Guard, not the army, Sunlight was escorted from the front of the castle of the Royal Sisters, directly to the throne room so the princess could hear his request.
Sunlight had already decided what he was going to ask for. But upon being announced, and walking in, he couldn’t help but frown. As usual, Celestia was surrounded by ponies. Guards, the nobility considered her ‘advisors’, even maids and waitstaff were helping upkeep the place, and surrounded by guards.
“Sunlight Blade,” Celestia smiled at him from her throne, “You’re looking well.”
Sunlight bowed his head briefly in greeting, “Princess. It’s good to see you as well. I’m here concerning the orders pertaining to the requested reward you’ve bestowed upon me.”
He could feel all the eyes on him as he stood before the princess. Everyone was silent, curious about what he’d request. Celestia noted his calling her ‘Princess’, as opposed to ‘Goddess’, but she hid her curiosity well, “Of course. What is it you’d request?”
Sunlight considered it for a moment, glancing around, “With all due respect Princess, I would prefer this discussion be had in private.”
The quiet crowd went from looking at Sunlight to looking at Celestia curiously. It was not the first time he’d asked for this, and last time she had granted his request. With a nod, she waved a hand, “Then in private it will be. Guards, please remove everyone from the throne room, give us the room.”
A quiet grumble from the ponies in the room were expected, but they weren’t dumb enough to complain, given what had happened last time. In short term, the room was empty, save for Celestia and Sunlight Blade. Once the last ones had left, the immortal one sighed, relaxing somewhat in her chair, “Sunlight… if this is-”
“When I was on the battlefield,” He interrupted her, much to her surprise, ignoring her no doubt refusal of his unspoken request, “I had a lot of reason to grow. Knowing that, if I made one mistake, I would die. That I’d bring such pain to my family,” He rubbed his still healing shattered arm quietly for a moment, “I was there for six weeks, fighting skirmishes, volunteering so others wouldn’t have to. My first real fight taught me the horrors of war, and why we strive so hard to never participate, unless absolutely required.”
Celestia’s surprise quietly faded, and her face turned dark, looking down. Sunlight didn’t notice, or if he did he didn’t comment, “I was forced to watch as my comrades, friends and fellow soldiers, guards and even our medics were killed, slaughtered by the most terrifying foe I could imagine. Insectoid, cannibalistic, if nothing else just for damaging morale. It worked, believe me.”
He sniffed, looking back up at Celestia. His eyes dead, but intense. A strange dichotomy Celestia had only seen a few times before, “And I prayed. I prayed to all of you. I prayed to Luna that our night be uninterrupted, to Twilight that our unity give us strength. To Cadance… that we would get home to see our families again. And to you most of all. I prayed for strength from you, begging for guidance. Guidance that never came.”
She flinched at the accusation, but when she went to reply, he held up his hand, “Please, I’m not finished. By the end of it all, I was praying purely out of habit, I think. For, there was no answer coming. ‘It’s just a test’ I told myself, ‘They’ve a plan, they’ll save those of us worthy’. A selfish, disgusting thought if ever I had one,” The grimace on his face twisted into ugly self loathing, “And I thought like this for years. Decades. I thought that the big issues with the world were tests. I made one last prayer when I begged for the power to stand up again, the power to fight again, to give my fellows enough time to run to safety. And something answered me. For a moment, I thought it was you. My faith was strong again, and I lashed out in righteous fury. But…”
“Now you know it wasn’t me,” She finished, and he laughed humourlessly, “No princess. I knew it wasn’t before you told me. it didn’t feel right. You have always glowed, a gentle warmth for your ponies to bask in. This? This was burning, heat and fire to obliterate my enemies. I didn’t know what it was until you told me, but I knew it wasn’t you. When I woke up, I had a lot of time to myself. Father was working hard to train new recruits into the guard to replace the volunteers who had died, my mother’s flower business was probably the busiest she’d ever experienced, so it was just me. Gordon was helping with the wounded, and I wasn’t allowed to. So, I had a lot of time to think, and I’ve come to some realisations that, now that I’ve come to the conclusions, make a lot of sense.”
Curiosity and her habit of teaching the young overcame the solar monarch’s grim thoughts, and she cocked an eyebrow at him, “And, what conclusions would they be?” She asked, not unkindly.
“One,” He began, “The alicorn race are far from all powerful, otherwise you would never allow such harm to befall your people. You are far too kind hearted to let the people you see as your responsibility come to harm when you could prevent it.”
“Two,” he continued, “You, none of you in fact, can hear our prayers. What it essentially comes down to is us begging someone else to solve our problems, and that will never happen. We have to step up to fix our own problems and find our own solutions.”
“Like you did with the retreat you called,” She said softly, standing from her seat and approaching her battered and scarred guard, “it was admirable.”
“It was foolish,” he corrected, to which she laughed.
“It was foolish,” She said in agreement, strangely warmly, “But what else had we come to expect of you?”
He nodded, though doubted he was so like he used to be, “And Third. I couldn’t be who I was, and get through that alive.”
She nodded sadly, “Unfortunately, that is the way of war. It affects us, and rarely in a good way. I would even hesitate to say ever in a good way.”
He bowed a head respectfully, “Indeed. When I got home, I had a lot of time to think. Given my previous thoughts, and despite the outreaching of my priest, I came to the realisation of what, I believe, you’ve been trying to tell me this whole time, and I had my head too far up my ass to see this whole time. You, your sister, your niece and your student…”
“None of you are gods.”
Celestia smiled sadly, and nodded, “I have tried. I’m sorry it took such a traumatic event, and such loss, for you to learn this. And I’m sorry I couldn’t convince you earlier.”
“I was too stubborn in my belief,” he replied quietly, “That you were being modest, trying to be approachable. I used to stammer in your presence sometimes, and trip over myself to make you happy. I was like a puppy. A big, armoured puppy with magic.”
He paused, and, for a moment, Celestia wondered if she should say something. But he cleared his throat suddenly, “But I’m not that puppy anymore. And in spite of everything I’ve come to realise, despite all of my beliefs being turned upside down, and then thrown out of the window, I’ve come down to the basics again. One, You aren’t a real goddess, nor are your family members. Two, You’re a very real, very normal mare, who only rules through unfortunate circumstance, and three, Life for people like me is far too short to waste on absurdities like religion, or worrying what happens to me when I die.”
Celestia looked over this new, mildly scarier Sunlight Blade. Scarred face, arm in a sling, permanent scarring over his horn from using far too much magic for him to handle (Though the doctors said it was only aesthetic, and would probably go away with time), standing in his dress uniform. He hadn’t smiled once since she’d seen him, and according to reports from medical staff, he hadn’t smiled since he’d gotten back, not even when seeing his parents again, or talking to his psychologist.
“Princess, I’m a broken stallion,” He began again softly, “I have nightmares every night of my fellows dying around me, and have to fight back the urge to draw my sword whenever I hear a loud sound. I find it hard to smile, despite knowing there is much around to smile about, and I’m still readjusting to not being around the other soldiers. But what I wish to ask of you just might prove to you I’m still me. I’m still the Sunlight Blade who left, just older. Wiser. Perhaps in need of a little help to put himself back together.”
“And what would your request be?”
He tried to speak, failed, then a wry grin crossed his face, much to Celestia’s shock, “A few years back, I came to you professing my love. And you turned me down, told me that I held you on too high a pedestal. That you had no way of ever taking advantage of such a thing. A few years later, when the rumours of you stepping down were circulating, I told you you would always be my goddess, no matter what. I might have been young and foolish, I might have held you up higher than you were comfortable at the time. But I meant those words. And I don’t regret them. I feel as much affection for you then as I do now, just with less religious fawning.”
Celestia blinked, and frowned, “Sunlight…”
“I’m not asking you to love me,” he said gently, “I ask only for a kiss.”
Silence. Celestia blinked, “A kiss.”
“Yes.”
She sighed, “Sunlight, you’re aware you could ask for anything? Anything at all within my power? Equestria at your fingertips, and that’s your request?”
“I don’t need Equestria at my fingertips,” He said, finally a proper, small smile appearing on his otherwise calm face as he took her arm with his good hand, “Not when I have the world right in front of me.”
Now, I’m a bit of an asshole, and I’m finishing everything on a cliffhanger. Why? Well, because I can! I’m rather fond of this drabble series I wrote up. Dunno why, just do. Celestia’s character is heavily based on @alicorncrown‘s Complextia, Gordon Cloudhopper belongs to @aflockoffeatheredmuses, and Sunlight blade is, obviously, all mine and he’s my precious cinnamon roll. Thank you for reading, if you did, and hey! you’re free to imagine what happens at the end! I’ll be honest, I’ll be personally asking @alicorncrown what they think, and how they think Complextia would react to such a request.
