animal farm is a story about how (not) to run a revolution. the problem is that the pigs use their comparative advantage to form a monopoly on meaningful education and political power, thus re-creating the aristocracy in the way that the ruling class now has a fundamentally different set of social and economic interests. its about how you can't distill power into a very small group of people or those people inevitably just become the thing they were fighting against. it's about the corrupting influence of power. its not about how the proles r stupid idiots, the pigs start out proles too. its about how inequitable distribution of resources will always happen if u let people with distinct interests decide everything for everyone else.

animal farm fundamentally opposes authoritarianism and anti-democratic sentiment. its about power dynamics and the ways that insulation and inequity divide us more than they can ever bring us together. its about how smooth-talking propagandists can sway the minds of people away from their actual interests (a la the republican party and fox news).

also, calling orwell a colonialist cop would be like calling me 12 years old cuz i used to be that but then grew out of it. i love that orwell was a colonialist because it means he had to face the contradictions in the systems in which he lived and chose a different path from the one society would've dictated. he realized how structures of power work to normalize the violence they cause by calling it "law and order" and "justice" and other such buzzwords that allow you to alienate yourself from the violence of a system, even as you directly carry it out. its a point of growth and something to be celebrated. it's not actually a point of condemnation to say that someone used to be shittier but then learned, grew, and are a different person with different ideas and relations to power now. that's actually a good thing to do

also at this point of u can't tell ur being lied to by op, idk how to help other than to ask that u look into the context of his quote on hitler. look into it and see if u can spot whats going on and what he actually meant. use those big boy brain critical reading skills and figure that part out yourself

On the subject of orwell and his rancid anticommunism, his flagship title "animal farm" is not simply a "satire of the USSR"; it is a full and total repudiation of the idea of proletarian rule at all. The entire book depicts the workers as dumb and incapable and easily manipulated by leaders. This is a fully aristocratic view of the proletariat and entirely anti-proletarian. This should be no surprise to people who are familiar with orwell's opinions and past, including the fact that he has "never been able to dislike Hitler" (actual quote, March 21, 1940) and that he was a colonialist cop.

people go absolutely crazy with hate when it comes to the democratic party. which is fair enough, they're quite hateable and oh so ineffective, but they seem to forget theres legit material differences between democrat and republican rule. especially in a lot of truly meaningful ways like supreme court or other judicial appointments, voting rights, carceral rights, disability benefits, and military command just off the top. but a lot of these ways it matters are kinda invisible to most people most of the time, yet they're always there influencing things one way or another

I really think people have forgotten just how bad things were under the Trump Administration. Literally every day there was news about some service being cut or someone terrible appointed somewhere they shouldn't be or what have you. He constantly flirted with WW3 and military dictatorship. It was such a blur of badness that there aren't big standouts for people to point to to make him "the XYZ president." it was everything. all the time. Why do we not remember this.
