FOLKLORE DAAAAAY! *vibrates with excitement* I have a lot to say, so apologies in advance for the length 😅

To tell the long story, I sang along to the singles in my car, but didn't start getting into Taylor until the end of Speak Now era when I came across the Mine music video, which made me cry. I started loving Taylor in earnest with Red. I remember being so excited for IKYWT because it was dubstep (so 2012) and sing screaming, "I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here" in the with the windows down on my way to work.

I excitedly listened to 1989, rep, and Lover, but it wasn't until folklore that I went ABSOLUTELY FERAL for Taylor — stalking her merch every morning, joining online communities, etc. Clowning for woodvale is what got me through late quarantine. The company I worked for when it came out had a morning meeting where someone would play music and when I mentioned folklore they asked me to put it on. I was on epiphany and when it switched to Betty... umm... let's just say that was awkward to play for coworkers. 🤐

This album is just absolute perfection. It feels like a warm hug. It is my comfort album and the soundtrack to my life. It's sitting on my back porch during quarantine drinking sweet tea in the summer. It's splitting a bottle of wine with my best friend every August 31st, even though neither of us drink otherwise. It's hiking around Grasmere in the rain with my husband. It's standing in awe of the northern lights in Iceland.

Favorite song: seven (I know you're not a fan, but it reminds me of running around in the woods as a child in Georgia and it's in my top 5 ever)

Favorite lyric: Please picture me in the weeds before I learned civility. I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted. / All of the lakes

Most underrated: hoax (I've heard lots of people skip this one, but it's just so hauntingly beautiful)

HISTORY !

omar rafael is born screaming on christmas eve and doesn't stop causing his parents trouble from that moment onwards. he is loud, uncontrollable, and chaotic growing up. his favorite activity is getting into things he knows he's not allowed to, but it gets him the attention of his parents that he so desperately wants.

his parents are often busy, and omar and his sibling are left in the care of nannies more often than not. his parents still love them, still take them on family vacations and spend time with their children but it's not enough to keep omar from acting out. if he misbehaves, his parents pay attention to him. it's simple really.

when school comes around, it seems impossible for omar. they want him to sit still for too long, tasks are boring and the classroom is just too loud for him to fully pay attention. his teachers call him a trouble maker, a class clown, anything but what he needs to hear.

it isn't until fourth grade that the ruiz-osman family gets their answers: omar is autistic and has adhd. it helps getting a diagnosis and the family throws themselves into getting him the resources he needs. his older sibling steps in and is the first to know how to calm omar down during a meltdown.

school becomes easier and omar finds an outlet in soccer. it helps him get out excess energy and make friends all at the same time. his parents encourage it.

but everything comes crashing down one afternoon when omar and his sibling come home from school to their parents sitting in kitchen. they're getting a divorce, not from not loving each other enough but from growing apart and realizing they just aren't compatible as husband and wife. their mother moves out shortly and then moves across the country to be closer to her family.

omar took the divorce hard, convincing himself it was somehow his fault his parents' split and his grades started suffering because of it. his older sibling noticed and helped him through it, later recommending a therapist.

after graduation, omar goes the college route but quickly gets overwhelmed and drops out. it's better this way, he tells his family and it's not like he even wanted to know what he wanted to do with his life anyways. he floats around various jobs for a while, living with his father until one day he gets into a wreck on his way to work.

the paramedics are angels on earth, omar is convinced of it. and realizes that he wants to be one of them. he enrolls in emt school the following autumn and gets certified a year later. being an emt is everything omar needed, the past environment perfect for his adhd.

his therapist recommends a service dog to help with the meltdowns and feelings of being overwhelmed in public, so that's exactly what omar does. he gets a dog, names it cooper, and gets him certified as a service animal. cooper now goes everywhere omar does and spends his days at the station when omar is working.

I never believed in roses/timeless/eclipse/karma, but I clowned over woodvale ngl

woodvale/lakeshore/*assorted title here* was actually fun to me because it came from such a place of pure love for folklore/evermore that the thought of a trilogy was still exciting, we weren't ready to leave the woods! and so many of the concepts were gorgeous and imaginative, and i enjoyed that creativity (this is still one of my favorite taylor edits ever) - they ranged from leaning fully into eerieness, to water/lake/ocean themes, to celestial/dawn/heaven themes, i loved seeing them even when the idea of a third album clearly became clownery.

and anyway, my clowning was believing we were totally in re-recordings era and not thinking TS10 was on the horizon any time soon, i just told a friend yesterday that midnights still feels like a collective fever dream to me. i don't think it will seem real until i'm hearing the music! (in two weeks! ahhhhh!!!)

hi!! no there’s nothing wrong with it- i think theories are fun!! i enjoy clowning from time to time. BUT the double album is something that is very frequently theorized so it’s just like “oh here we go again” lol. the one that comes to mind immediately is lover - people thought that because taylor was alternating pink & blue hair tips that there would be two albums (and then there was only one album). and then people thought folklore & evermore had another sister, woodvale, which was also not true. personally my “sigh” was more about the media trying to be clued into swiftie theories and the fact that there are headlines about a theory that could possibly be true but is most likely just people having fun online!

The fandom is so wild sometimes. I’ve heard every theory about what could be coming on 5/13 from 1989 TV, 1989 TV AND Speak Now TV, or Karma. I always have a bit of skepticism since I walked Clownelia Street with the whole Woodvale theories a few months ago but it’s so interesting to see what everyone comes up with. Whatever may be the case tomorrow will be interesting even if it’s nothing. I just hope Taylor is having a good day and a good time watching us clown.
