CASE 1 on repeat! - HELD IN THE CROOK OF HIS ARM AND BEATEN TO STUPOR (BSS)
Hi. My name is Sybil Bowale, and I was a physically battered woman. Hi. My name is Abigail Gudira, and my husband cheated on me with a gay love triangle. Hi. My name is Latoya “Toya” Odion, and I lost my fiancée weeks before our wedding. We form the BSS crew and believe me, we’ve been there. We know what you need and what you go through. We know how people pity you and patronize you, and that…

Look.
Str8 men saying women never like sex or orgasm are telling on themselves, but…
Yeah, very few women like sex as one-dimensionally as the vast majority of men do.
Most women who love sex love sex, but. Conversely, very few men would think to append a ‘but’ to liking sex; they are but-less.
And women have every reason in the world to but! But men are creepy, but men do not usually go down or go down well, but their stamina isn’t as good, but pregnancy is scary, but birth control pills give you depression, but you’re judged for sex more than a man, etc. There are absolutely reasons for the ‘but’s.
But men who have buts are rarer than hen’s teeth; and trying to deny that, in this culture at least, men absolutely like sex more intensely and with less provisos than women, overwhelming, with very few exceptions, is just fooling yourself.
We live in a gendered society where men and women have trouble communicating, divided by a common language, and what ‘liking sex’ even means is very different in Mantalk and Womantalk.

28 April 2024, 11:28
The first interview has been conducted! This interview was done with Adinda Yovita Widiasti. We have been connected through LinkedIn since 2023, which is how I have asked her for the interview. Despite being a motion graphics/animation university student, Adinda has work experience from multiple intern jobs and is also hired as a graphic designer at Indonesian media company "Womantalk".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I messaged her on LinkedIn if she would be open to an interview, and she agreed. We set a time for 28 April at 9 am WIB / 10 am WIB. I sent her my portfolio website link and the questions in advanced so she can prepare her answers to ensure a more efficient interview.
Here is the Google Drive link to the full interview.
Adinda has provided several helpful feedback for both my portfolio website and insightful answers regarding the current multimedia design industry. Motion graphics and animation are currently being sought out for by recruiters, which is not something I currently have in my portfolio. As mentioned by the interviewee, it would be a helpful addition to my skills if I were to put down an example of my animation work. She adds on that having the game (Carding Equilibrium) adds a good amount of diversity, and that I could focus on presenting my illustrations as she thinks it's my strong suit.
For my portfolio website, first, she suggested that I add a home button that goes directly back to the first page. I added one at the top of the page. Adinda says that users should be able to go back to the home page instead of not being able to go back (without using the Back button) and locked into the Now Showing page.

Another suggestion she proposed is that I only add one "Now Showing" at the start of the Now Showing page, while replacing the text within the movie frames with a word describing what work it is (e.g Spirited Away is Illustration, Design Promotion is Advertising)
I agreed that this would help provide more context to what the users are clicking, so I made the necessary changes!
Tumblr media
The last changes she suggested were regarding my text format in the About me page. Originally, the text in this page were all center aligned. Adinda suggests that I change it to a left aligned format instead as people are accustomed to read from the left, especially for important text. It makes it easier to read and also easy on the eyes.
Alongside that, she mentions I make the fonts of my schools and workplace to be boldened to act as a heading, while the text below are subheadings in order to format it a little easier to read. Furthermore, she adds that I could make the dates a little smaller and have them be side by side with the text above it.
Tumblr media
And those are the final website changes! This interview, despite being the first one, has already been so insightful for me. I appreciate Adinda telling me her advice, and also her compliments to the cinema themed approach I had taken with my website. She was pleasant to talk with and I do hope for the best in her future endeavors as well.
