I desperately want the next Ace Attorney game to feature Winston Payne's daughter as a prosecutor. The first case is a flashback case to like, a mock trial from when Athena was taking classes based on one of Phoenix's old trials from before his disbarment, and you think that the new Payne is just a one-off tutorial Proscecutor like her family. Then you get to the present day and learn that she has taken a level in badass and is Athena's main rival for the game.

Pitch for a reboot of “Ace Attorney” (essentially a new timeline but featuring the same characters):

1) For the leads:

The game is split by three campaigns, led by defense attorneys working for Fey & Co. Law Offices, which mainly handles criminal cases (and some civil cases).

* Phoenix Wright, who is one of the firm’s founders

* Apollo Justice, who is an experienced defense attorney who recently transferred to Fey & Co after witnessing blatant corruption in the previous firm he worked for

* Athena Cykes, who just passed the California bar exam.

The other two major characters are the other two founders, Mia Fey and Diego Armando, who are romantically connected.

2) For the assistants:

* Maya Fey, Mia’s younger sister who is working as one of the firm’s paralegals/secretaries, is Phoenix’s assistant.

* Trucy Wright, Phoenix’s daughter with the nun Sister Iris Hawthorne, is Apollo’s assistant. She is a law school student who also dreams of being a professional magician.

* Simon Blackquill, a former prosecutor who decided to switch to defense and join Fey & Co, is Athena’s co-counsel (which is pretty much the assistant role). He was assigned to supervise Athena since she’s a green attorney who just passed the bar.

3) For the lead prosecutors:

* Miles Edgeworth: Los Angeles’ leading prosecutor who frequently clashes with Phoenix.

* Klavier Gavin: A veteran, confident prosecutor who clashes with Apollo.

* Rayfa Khurain: A young, up-and-coming prosecutor who clashes with Athena.

4) For the final bosses:

* Manfred von Karma: A ruthless prosecutor known for their corrupt methods

* Kristoph Gavin: Apollo’s former employer who becomes the focus of a disciplinary hearing

* Franziska Rechtsanwältin: A corporate law attorney who is hired to sue Metis Cykes (in this reboot, Franziska is not Manfred’s daughter)

5) The main campaigns:

* Phoenix’s campaign is still about defending Miles after he’s accused of murder. However, the biggest change is that Manfred von Karma is no longer the murderer. Here, he’s just a really challenging prosecutor. The focus is solely on getting Edgeworth acquitted.

* Apollo’s campaign is centered on a corruption/ethics case against his former employer, Kristoph Gavin. Instead of a big murder trial, Apollo’s finale is a disciplinary hearing in which he’s trying to convince the bar association to disbar Kristoph.

* Athena’s campaign is centered on a massive civil suit against her mother, Métis Cykes. Despite the potential conflict of interest in representing her mother, she takes the lead in a case where Métis and her robotics company, Cosmos, are sued by a rival company, PhantomTech, for copyright infringement.

6) Miscellaneous plot points:

* In case it wasn’t obvious, this version is a more grounded, realistic take on the legal profession. So, no spirit channeling and less courtroom shenanigans. Think something closer to “Better Call Saul” or “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

* Part of Phoenix’s campaign is a subplot in which he tries to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend Iris. Part of the reason why their relationship fell apart was that Trucy was an accident, which was strained since Iris took an oath of celibacy when she became a nun. But the two at least try to be good parents to Trucy, despite their separation.

* Mia Fey is still murdered and Maya Fey is still the main suspect. However, Phoenix is told that he can’t represent Maya due to a conflict of interest (his near-familial connection to the Fey sisters). This leads to Apollo Justice taking over the case.

* The tutorial level is Mia Fey going through a mock trial in law school. Her professor, Winston Payne, stands in as the prosecutor.

* Part of Athena’s campaign is taking Aura Blackquill’s deposition, in which she reveals some unflattering information that implies that she may have been responsible for the infringement.

* Diego Armando does not go into a coma in this version. Instead, he decides to retire after losing his passion for the law upon Mia’s death. That being said, Diego pops up every now and then to act as a mentor for all three protagonists.

[More a Great West Turnabout question but-] whom might the prosecutor Ryu goes up against be due to different locale?

Do you mean in England? Japan? Or America? Because my upcoming story will take place in different areas and some time jumps here and there. Not huge ones (though one of them will be a bit more than the usual you see in AA)

The starter case that is when Ryunosuke defends Circe in her small town will hilariously be none other than Auchi.

He couldn’t deal with the shame of losing to Ryunosuke then Ryunosuke’s upstart “cousin”, Ryutaro. So he fled to the states to practice law. He will be working with his own assistant. His daughter, who married into a well respected family…….The Paynes. Lol, yes I am creating a lore reason on Winston and Gaspen’s family name. Their ancestor is Auchi’s second child, Aima Auchi or as she’s known now, Aima Payne.

Here is what she looks like, created her in picrew, my friend @coolman229 helped touch up the glasses in photoshop to help make her better fit in with the Auchi/Payne family.

Her name is Ellen Payne and she's a defense attorney. She's Winston's daughter and Gaspen's niece. She's relatively fresh out of law school because she became a lawyer a bit later than the WAA did. She does watercolor painting in her free time and uses bad art metaphors all the time. She wears the most basic suitdress known to man.

So, now that I've gotten to the point that I'm making enough ace attorney ocs in my head to make a whole game, I might just fuck around and write one myself. In the process of brainstorming I came up with the idea of using Winston Payne's daughter as the main prosecuting antagonist. Mostly for irony purposes. And I looked at other people's interpretations of her, and I'm glad we're in agreement that if his daughter was a prosecutor, she'd absolutely be the most competent Payne in the family.

This is Craen Payne. As you can can see by the last name, she is the daughter of Winston Payne (and is reall proud to be the heir of - who she think is - one of the greatest prosecutors of all time)

She is around 18 by the time of Spirit if Justice. And, because her parents both were really against the idea of her following her dad steps, she had to improvise. So... She is now attorney in training.

I wouldn’t say that she is actually GOOD at her job, but she has the spirit and over-the-top self-confidence that allows her to not give attention to anyone who might point out on that.

I always believed that my life begun the day that I met you Harry, I believed that up until that point, all I was, was insignificant. A mindless wanderer passing through life, casting my shadows upon hallways and broken-down furnishings. I believed I had no purpose, and I would become a burden to society as my father had done before me. I know deep down that is why my mother left me. Ace Attorney stuff that I thought of

This will most likely not happen.

Important: 

New attorney. 

Khura’in location. 

Six cases in the base game.

BRAND NEW GAME MECHANIC THAT LETS YOU RECORD SOMEBODY’S TESTIMONY AND USE IT AS EVIDENCE, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

Case One, Turnabout Tourist

After waking up, with very few memories, only their name “Piper”. Finding an attorney’s badge and a handwritten note in their backpack telling them to go to the Hall of Justice.

They burst in, and everyone accepts them as a valid attorney because otherwise they have to sit there and wait for Apollo, who’s already AN HOUR LATE.

Our Prosecutor: Yellen Payne. Society has moved past the need for Gaspen Payne.

Yellen is Winston’s daughter, aged 31. They are the most competent Payne so far, and also get a custom objection, “SHUT IT!” 

More rambling about Yellen’s design: She wears a dark green suit with a tie, and ties her hair up with her glasses. Her hair is long and graying, a bit frayed at the ends. She has crow’s feet around her eyes.

Normal animation: Stands there with her right arm on the desk.

Presenting animation: Pulls her glasses out of her hair and reads some documents.

Smug animation: stands with her arms crossed and a smile on her face.

Damage animation: Screams and almost falls back, catching themself on the wall.

Damaged animation: Sweating, she grits her teeth with her arm on the back of the wall. 

The defendant is one Will Gumshoe, Dick Gumshoe’s nephew. He’s been accused of poisoning his girlfriend, making a divination Seance useless. 

Will is the first witness, and his animation is basically Gumshoe’s with more finger guns and less chest breathing.

After proving, at least momentarily, that he wasn’t the killer, as since we’re assuming the poison was from the sandwiches they had, and he gave her his after her own was stolen by a dog, a second witness was called in- the owner of the shop, to prove that he wasn’t the one who poisoned the sandwich.

Sao Bishop, the second witness:

Appearance: Traditional Khura’inese dress, with a cigarette in his mouth and a belt with two bottles of sauce in his hands. Victor Kudo levels of age.

Idle animation: Nods head side to side.

“Whoops” animation: grips his bottles, squirting a bit out.

Breakdown: squirts his bottles into his eyes, and has to start wiping the sauce out.

When he is revealed to not have a motive nor much of a way to get the poison in the sauce without poisoning anyone else, in a desperate move, Yellen calls in a second witness to get her conviction. 

He’s the killer.

Introducing John Etter.

He’s dressed as a janitor, and holds a mop with a bucket of water on the end.

Idle animation: the bucket bobs up and down.

Damage animation: Tenses up around the mop, pulling it down and sending a splash of water upwards.

Breakdown: Pulls the mop full downwards, sending the bucket flying and landing on his head, dousing him and his springy hair. For the rest of his talking, his hair is disheveled.

John was forced into a confession with Piper’s mechanic, High Pressure.

Basically, it’s about quickly forcing as many statements as possible out of a witness until you can use the voice recorder to catch them in a lie.

John held a grudge against Will, and tried to poison him but ended up poisoning the girlfriend. 

At the end of the trial, Apollo comes in, disheveled and tired, and once he realizes that there’s actually another defense attorney in this country, he’s REALLY happy, and invites Piper to work at Justice Law Offices.

After the trial, we see Will trying to fly home, as he was on vacation with his girlfriend, but since he himself can’t actually afford a plane ticket, he’s stuck in Khura’in for the time being. He decides to help out at Justice Law Offices as an assistant, providing assistance and debriefing on trials.

Apollo has started wearing traditional Khura’inese clothing, and Datz and Ahlbi work with him.

I have no design concepts for Piper.

There will be more about this if this post can get at least a few comments and positive feedback

EDIT: since I make the rules, Apollo's new tie is stylized after the mark of the defiant dragons making it look like a dragon tied around his neck.

Black Widow Finally Introduces Taskmaster, But Who Is Behind the Mask?

This article contains MASSIVE spoilers for Marvel’s Black Widow

We had to wait a long time for Black Widow. Marvel and Disney’s Phase 4 solo film for Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) was originally set to be released back in May of 2020 but, well, we all know what happened next, so this summer finally brought us our first Premier Access MCU film. Luckily Black Widow was worth the wait.

It’s an action-packed installment that introduces a slew of new characters we’ll likely see again in future MCU films and Disney+ shows. One of those is the highly anticipated Marvel Comics villain Taskmaster, who can mimic any fighting style. You’ve heard of people who have a photographic memory, but Taskmaster has photographic reflexes and in Black Widow we see the character perfectly copy the moves of Hawkeye, Captain America, Black Panther, and even Natasha herself, making them a formidable adversary.

The Marvel Comics Taskmaster

Created by David Michelinie and George Perez and introduced in 1980 in Avengers #195, Taskmaster has become a go-to mercenary for hire in the pages of Marvel Comics, where his particular skills are often priceless. Eventually, Taskmaster realized he could take advantage of his talents without risking life and limb by becoming a tutor. He also realized that both the good guys AND the bad guys would be willing to cough up the cash for his services given the right scenario. Taskmaster can therefore run a pretty perfect game with few drawbacks.

In the comics, Taskmaster’s name is Anthony Masters, so the MCU’s “Antonia” is a nod to that.

But in Black Widow, which is set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Taskmaster works for General Dreykov (Ray Winstone) and gives off Terminator and Nemesis vibes – stalking and attacking Natasha as she tries to track down Dreykov and finally put an end to his Red Room programme.

When Natasha first defected to work for the US government, her last test was to eliminate Dreykov, a task she thought was accomplished by making sure his young daughter was in the room with him when a bomb went off. Indeed, the “collateral damage” killing of Dreykov’s daughter has long haunted Natasha, and the incident was first mentioned all the way back in 2012’s The Avengers when Natasha interrogated Loki before the Battle of New York. Unfortunately, as we learn during Black Widow, she didn’t succeed in killing Dreykov during that mission, and ended up maiming his daughter Antonia during her attempt.

Black Widow eventually unveils Taskmaster as Antonia (Olga Kurylenko) the grown-up and still disfigured daughter of General Dreykov. Kurylenko is a Ukrainian-French actress who starred in the movie Paris, je t’aime before snagging more action-based roles in Hitman and Max Payne.

Her big break came in 2008 when she starred as Bond girl Camille Montes, a Bolivian agent with a vendetta in Quantum of Solace. Interestingly, that film has a number of ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it also features her Black Widow co-star David Harbour, and What If? narrator Jeffery Wright. Kurylenko also later starred in the Tom Cruise-led sci-fi flick Oblivion and led the cast of the massively underrated 2019 indie horror The Room.

After finding out that Taskmaster is Dreykov’s daughter, Natasha decides to save her by deactivating her Red Room control. Antonia then departs with the Yelena and the rest of the Widows to help others affected by the same chemical process who have now had their freedom unlocked. Meanwhile, Natasha will die at the bottom of a cliff on Vormir having given her life for the Soul Stone in Avengers: Endgame.

If you’re wondering when we might run into Antonia again, the comics might suggest some intriguing MCU avenues, as it was Taskmaster who set about training John Walker after he was stripped off his Captain America mantle. Following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell’s Walker is already on his way to becoming his Marvel Comics counterpart US Agent thanks to Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss), and it was confirmed that Valentina has also drawn Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) into her web during Black Widow’s post-credits scene.

These three may be pulled together to work on whatever team Valentina is cooking up. What that team will be called hasn’t yet been revealed but our money’s on the Thunderbolts, a crew of reformed villains who were once led by none other than Baron Zemo in the comics.
