This fanfic “Runaways Running the Night” was so good. It’s a longer fanfic, but it is finished, and it is so sweet and wholesome. Plus it is just very well written, and the plot twist inside… AH! This may be my fave fanfic I’ve ever read. Plus it has a small sequel chapter that I need to read soooooo… yay!

This fanfic was also a super cute AU that was written by @kukvlkan for nashuri week! They are just a bunch of cuties!

(here’s my claim to fame in the cult: nobody fucking knows. the only written record i can find of it on google is this guy richard owen (inventor of the word dinosaur, certified weirdo in MANY ways) who tasted, get this, the milk from a taxidermied platypus. he said it tasted mostly like nothing and a little bit like the alcohol-y scent of preservatives. i can rant about this for hours.)

As I've been doing all the posting this week, Gary wanted to say something...

I did not want to be a bookseller. I wanted even less to pay for the privilege.

Stephy had other ideas, however, and it’s in my nature to follow her lead even when I’m convinced she’s gone off the deep end. And so, in 2017, we booked our place at the end of a 3-year wait and Stephy impatiently dreamt of our upcoming trip. This, I believe, is called “foreshadowing.”

2 days before our trip in 2020, we were all locked in our homes for the foreseeable future. And so, in 2020, we booked our place at the end of a 3-year wait and Stephy impatiently dreamt of our upcoming trip.

I tell you this to emphasise that, despite two 3 year waits and a pandemic, I was no more enthusiastic about our bizarre little holiday. I was convinced that we would see too few customers and I would be bored out of my mind or, much worse, that we would see too many and I would be forced to relive the retail experience that made me promise “never again” as a teenager. Either way, I was terrified that my anxiety and my atrophied social skills would leave me trapped in a solid week of awkward interactions and uncomfortable silences.

I ran these scenarios in my head, preparing myself for any eventuality, but I could never have anticipated that I would fit in almost immediately. We were soon visited by many of the locals, invited to events and welcomed into their stores as though we were regulars. This strange, wonderful place embraced us with everything from casual Good Mornings shared across the quiet road as we all set up our signs and displays, to conversation in the street to compare notes after closing. It is rare that I feel a sense of belonging, but I found it here and instantly fell in love.

With the help of Stephy's boundless energy and contagious enthusiasm, I fully discarded my shell within days and, by week's end, was actively greeting everyone who walked through the door with a genuine “How are you today?” like some kind of crazy person.

It was in this question that I found the real treasure of this place, the thing that makes The Open Book far more than the sum of its parts: Those who visit, do so looking for a story or two, sure, but if you ask them, and if you listen, they often gift you a story in return. We encountered people bursting with the kind of joy and wisdom that only comes from a life well lived and learned important life lessons that we will carry with us forever. All it took was a word and an ear.

The dream, the one I didn't understand, can be found here in Wigtown but you are missing the point if all you are looking for is a quaint, cosy stay in a bookshop. The Open Book wouldn't work anywhere else because The Open Book is Wigtown. There is a perfect storm here. The right people in the right place at the right time with the right idea have created something truly magical. How else can I describe something wonderful that shouldn't exist, but does anyway?

This is a place where a modern shop with modern comforts exists but the penny sweet is alive and well, where a parade of 40 horses might run right by your front door and bagpipe music can be described as "spontaneous", where a "little concert" is both cosy and breathtaking in equal measure, where you can enter a store to the sound of live banjo music and learn of the owners attempts to purchase a life-sized triffid, and where you will learn the secret to a long happy life is to pull up your socks, always be curious, never stop learning, and buy a second TV for your spouse.

In just one week, a bookstore had become a home, a handful of strangers had become neighbours and friends and a holiday I would gladly have missed had become a memory that I will cherish always. I leave this place healed and inspired, thankful for the kindness and the stories that I will take home with me, and saddened beyond measure to say goodbye so soon.

I did not want to be a bookseller, but I will be forever grateful that I was.

520 and 521 : A Boxiao History 🤍

CPN and all that good stuff related to this celebration for the past few years. If you are not familiar with it, 520 means I love you and it’s considered their Valentines day. 521 on the other hand means “I am willing”. Individuals celebrating 520 and 521 have been known to take the opportunity to express their feelings for their partners or crushes through social media. It’s also prime time for brands to market and release their own 520 promos and limited edition merchandise. This post will cover 2016-2021. Please note that this post is very CPN biased and it’s okay if you don’t believe any of it. Lol.

• 2016

During this time, GG was still filming Superstar Academy in Hangzhou and almost daily you can see fansites posting photos onset. However on 5/18 there were less photos and it seems like GG got off work earlier than usual ( as per resource blogs who posted that day ). DD on the other hand was in Sanya filming the TTXS episode where he was a pilot.

5/19, DD jumps on a flight back to Changsha wearing a pink cap ( and we know what color he associates with love ). GG then surfaces back in Hangzhou to resume filming @ 10:20.

CPN: GG went to Sanya. This is like probably not real at all cause this is 2016! Lol. Unless you believe in Devil Timeline.

Now we arrive at 520. GG posts a series of selfies from filming SA but as you can see there are two that are out of place. He is in a car and then he blurred something at the back. Lol. Of course our CPN brains will think there is someone there, that’s why he blurred it. Who? We don’t know.

DD on 520 was working and had an event with UNIQ ( Changsha ) ; a coincidence, he does a gesture that portrays a rabbit. Interesting.

The next day he left Changsha to go to Seoul, all photos from fansites had him with a pink cap and a completely different outfit from the Weibo selfie he shared. Why are these two sharing photos that are not from the same day? Stock photos? 👀

• 2017

5/19 GG went to Duyun ( Guizhou ) for filming of Fights Break Sphere and he was wearing a pink top. Do you see a pattern here? Lol. They like Pink. Around this time DD was filming Private Shunshan Academy and there were a lot of on set videos posted.

Now on 520, GG posted a weekly vlog showing his big hotel room with a very nice bathtub. Just watch it. my god he was so wholesome. He even said here that 520 is important and I agree! 🤍🌸

How about DD. He shared a short clip of an Action scene from PSA Drama. That’s all.

• 2018

5/18, they both left CQL filming to go to Beijing for their own work engagements. One flew from Hangzhou ( DD ) and the other from Yiwu ( GG ). DD was wearing the off-white top we are all familiar with ( black for him and white for GG ).

5/19 GG was filming a video for his cooperation with KFC and he said this line :

"Suddenly I regret that you are not by my side, because your figure has been deeply engraved in my mind and cannot be erased."

I mean it’s most likely fanservice thing but considering that he’s been working with DD for the past weeks already and they had to part? Hmmmm. Maybe this means something more to him that time cause he can relate. 👀

Web was @ KFC Live event the same day and then in the evening he flew back to CQL shooting.

5/20, This is the reason why I made this whole post cause I remembered the whole posting about KFC on 520. HAHAHAHAHAHA! It’s so iconic. KFC Couple. 🤍

GG had an event with XNINE for their album in Beijing and he went back to CQL shooting early 5/21.

Look at their respective 520 and 521 posts. It’s the same format of 4 photos. Did GG copy DD this time? Also if you look at the time GG posted, it’s so early. I guess he wanted to post at 520 but then decided to just make it a 521 post as an answer. 🌹

This is a popular one, because GG’s 520 post he was wearing a similar top as DD’s. Tho you can argue that this was a popular print at the time and pretty common— but no. It’s the same one from off-white. Same exact style. What we don’t know tho if what GG was wearing was his or not. DD posted with the kadian 23:28 ( love zhan, love bo. ) CQL has not aired yet and most BXGs have not been all FBI on them so there were probably other things going on that we didn’t pick up on. ✌🏼

• 2020

As we all know, GG was not in the public eye during that time so it was DD who was so extra this whole time. DD posted this Douyin where he sent a Love Gun. Which is their thing. 🤍

Now the star of this year was undoubtedly DD’s 521 Ben and Jerry x Nike post. I will just direct you to other people’s post about it and it’s truly a fandom favorite. Yibo had no chill that time.

There were also talk of them being together this day, GG allegedly driving over to where DD was. DD was supposed to have an optional rehearsal but he didn’t go. He also booked two hotels and didn’t who up in either one. So where was he? Probably on Ninja mode with GG. Around this time they already had the resources to hide when they want to. Personally, what stayed with me from that chaotic day was the glimpse of “Have some faith” printed on the clothes. It was such a nice message considering what was going on that time. I felt like it was intentional, it was a message to stay strong. Yes, I have faith and 2 years later I still do. I still have faith that these two will make it through. 🤍

Swanqueen

Regina and Emma were directly responsible for 13 year old me being comfortable admitting I liked girls. Regina Mills has been at the center of who I am for over a decade, and I don’t think I’ll ever let her go. These two are part of me, and I love them so much. Plus me and Emma share a birthday, and the show came out the day after my 13th birthday so it basically belonged to me (in my adolescent brain). They also are responsible for making me become obsessed with the enemies to friends to lovers dynamic haha (I am mentally unwell)

Mumbroom

This is my biggest ship for The Worst Witch 2017 fandom, I absolutely ADORE Hecate and I love her with Julie more than anything!!! It’s not as popular as some other ships in the fandom, but I kind of like that it’s just me and a few other people who ship it tbh. I like the dynamic of a witch dating a non magical, and I love mumbroom specifically because while Julie is Mildred’s actual mom, Hecate sort of becomes Mildred’s school mom while Millie attends Cackles Academy.

Mystrade

I think this ship started out as a bit of a crack ship??? Not just for me, but for the whole BBC Sherlock fandom really. But it very quickly became just as real as johnlock (Sherlock x John) and even though it was never quite as popular, is still my favourite BBC Sherlock ship. Mycroft has always been my fav character from the show, and I think he deserves happiness! Plus Greg is one of the most wholesome characters in the entire show, and even though he has very little scene interaction with Mycroft, they still somehow make so much sense.

First ship: Swanqueen & Snamione (these happened basically simultaneously). Is snamione embarrassing? Yes. Moving on now thanks

Last song: Bringin’ Back Christmas by Ryan Reynolds from the new movie musical Spirited 🫢 guys this is so embarrassing I’m sorry… I actually really enjoyed this movie tho💔

Last movie: Thunder Force (2021) with Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer!!! It’s so sososo good btw, I’ve seen it a bunch of times lol. I watched it a couple days ago with my mom, it’s such a funny movie! I’ve also watched The Addams Family & Addams Family Values in the last week, but those are total classics that I’ve also seen a million times before lol. I love movies!

Currently reading: The Ministry of Unladylike Activity by Robin Stevens! It’s not as good as the Murder Most Unladylike series but it’s still a good addition to the world she’s built in her previous series.

Currently watching: Emergence. I watched it when it first started airing on tv in 2019, but I’m rewatching it with my aunt :) I love you Allison Tolman!!!

I think I love Alice Angel even more than before lol

Ok guys so, some of ya’ll don’t know this others do, but Alice is my whole time fav character of the saga since her reveal back in september of 2017, she was the first ever fictional character that I had a crush on when I was only 14 years old, I even cosplayed as her in 2018, but, back  in chapter 2 when Alice was revealed in her poster “Sent from Above” I wasn’t really interested in her character at all, I was meh with her, but OH BOY WAS I REALLY WRONG, when I saw her in chapter 3, I was instantly interested in her, and I fell for her, for me she was really cool, pretty (yes for she’s pretty so shut up XD), and hot ngl lol, I wish I had a photo of me cosplaying her, but unfortunately I don’t have it on the computer :’(, but, just so you guys know, there’s a photo of my 14 year old self dressed up as Alice lol. I love her so much, but now that BATDR came out two weeks ago, wow the game’s two weeks old already dang, it made me love her EVEN MORE than before :D. LONG LIVE ALICE! Also the letter that Allison wrote for her, is really wholesome, speceally when she writes “We’re like sisters” :’). Allison loved her and saw good in Alice after everything she did in BATIM...but the DAMM cycle had to continue and well, Alice suffered the same fate she suffered in BATIM...but if there’s a third Bendy game (it would be really cool honestly, but the post credit scene, in BATDR, hints that we’re gonna have a third game ;) ] I want Alice to come back, but I want her to have a happy ending and maybe have a redemption arc, imagine having Alice as an ally, an enemy shows up and BANG! Won-Pyung Sohn made her literary debut in 2017 with her novel Almond, a novel that follows Yunjae, a young boy born with alexithymia, a brain condition that makes it difficult for him to feel emotions like anger, fear, etc. He struggles to make friends and interact with the kids his age, but his loving and devoted mother and grandmother him with shelter and love as they try to overcome his condition together with their second-hand bookshop. That is all until a random act of violence that leaves his world shaken, leaving him on his own; alone. In his attempts to grieve and cope with the sudden loss, he meets troubled classmate Gon, new to his school. The two become a ragtag team of sorts and build a friendship together where Gon becomes a new teacher for Yunjae on emotions. When Gon is faced with danger, Yunjae has to decide if he can step outside of his comfort zone to safe his friend from peril and become the hero of his own story.

This story absolutely lived up to the hype! I initially learned about this book on tiktok sometime in June of 2023(?) and managed to find it in store the following week and it was the best decision I've ever made! This book is definitely one for anyone, simply because it's that good. It gets you hooked, it's easy to follow along - thanks to the first-person perspective that makes understanding Yunjae so much easier - and the ending is just so feel good.

Another thing I LOVED in this book was the relationship between Yunjae and Gon. Though it might be a stereotype to have the misfit duo; a loner/outsider character paired with the troubled character with a dark backstory, it's ultimately forgiven by how wholesome and wonderful the relationship between the two is, and how we get to witness them build their chemistry at a really even pace as well. My favourite between the two is the final few chapters where Yunjae goes to save Gon from Steel Wire, the leader of a gang made by troubled, orphaned teens. You really see how much the two care for each other and how important they are to one another with the way they defended one another in attempt to escape Steel Wire.

I don't really have much else to say because it's something you have to experience to understand, but here is a small collection of quotes that I liked from the book:

Just because! Like living life. That's all!”

“If you think about it that way, then it would’ve been better if Gon had never been born. Because, more than anything, he wouldn’t have had to feel so much pain and loss. But everything loses its meaning if you think that way. Only purpose remains. Barren.”

King continues to make the style of film he's known for, even with Warner and the Dahl company keeping a close eye on him - wholesome family adventures that have heart, soul, and elements of darkness which feel editorially justified, and much like Roald Dahl's source material, there is plenty of that in the 1 hour 56 minutes, especially as it blends ideas and imagery from the 1971 Mel Stuart/Gene Wilder film and Tim Burton's 2005 reboot, while at the same time creating an origin story that feels truthful to the style of the original book, which King and co-writer Simon Farnaby absolutely nail. Chung-hoon Chung acts as the film's DOP (with Seamus McGarvey beginning the shoot and leaving halfway through) and does an incredible job behind the camera for a musical film of this nature, and speaking of the music, Joby Talbot's score hits all the right places, with his former bandmate - Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy - writing the original songs (and a few new bits for an iconic number which closes the film) to create a musical which could easily do Greatest Showman kinds of numbers if this opening week is anything to go by.

With the performances, everyone wrote him off when he was cast - but my god, Timothee Chalamet is inspired casting. He can sing, he can dance, he can carry a film, and with his next project being Dune: Part 2, is there anything that Twitter (sorry, X)'s favourite actor can't do? He is ably supported by a frankly immense cast - Olivia Colman, Tom Davis, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Paterson Joseph, Matthew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, and the breakout talent Calah Lane rounding it all out. But just as he did the last time he worked with Paul King, one actor is a complete scenestealer- Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa. Sounds so wrong but it is so well justified. A word to the wise though - don't leave until the very end, as there is one little moment he sets up during the credit roll - one which potentially teases more Dahl projects getting the Hollywood treatment.

THE VERDICT

This film's been described as a warm hug by many, and much like King's previous work, Wonka will go down incredibly well with the mainstream audiences. It's a nice and safe PG that caters to all, and on top of that, it packs an emotional punch for fans of the 71 version, the 2005 version or the musical - it is truly Wonka for this generation.

Our journey began way back in 2007 when I was in high school (Stephy) and had an economics project to create a business. I dreamed up “The Nook,” a cosy bookshop nestled in a quaint village cottage. Little did I know that in April 2017, fate would lead me to an article about running a bookshop in a small Scottish village. It felt too good to be true, and Gary thought I was crazy, but he trusted me and we booked our place at the end of the 3 year waiting list.

And so we waited.

If you’ve done the math(s - Gary) you might be ahead of me here. In the months leading up to our visit came a little snag called COVID-19 and just 2 days before we were set to leave we were all put into lockdown.

And so we waited…

We began to worry that The Open Book couldn’t possibly live up to 6 years of expectations, but after just two days you can believe me when I say every second of waiting was worth it! 💖 We’ve been fully embracing this wholesome place, engaging with the amazing locals, and adorning our quaint bookshop with love. 🌸

The on-air host’s followers praised her in the comments for the “beautiful, empowering, bold, authentic” letter.

sorry but after seeing all these brand deals, magazine covers and the direction he's taking in promotions which is different than what bts and other members have done in recent years I have to disagree and say bts was holding him back at least in the past few years. not to mention how he was ITCHING to go out and dance he couldn't wait to get off those chairs lol

Oh, absolutely. If we're talking deals and stuff, he was held back. I don't think it was the group specifically but it definitely was the company's policies. If it weren't for bighit and their pursuit of OT7 deals, Jimin would've had solo fashion ambassadorships and magazine covers from 2018.

I think everyone, or almost everyone in BTS could've had their solo gigs years ago, some probably even wanted it more than others. It's just that none of them were allowed to. Take TXT as example, yeonjun has magazine covers and he even went alone to some fashion week shows last year. When BTS blew up in the USA after billboard awards 2017, bighit understood that the appeal was in having the 7 of them together and did everything they could to protect that.

Yeah, I think I've mentioned it before but it was these last couple of years after dynamite that I really didn't see Jimin content with what BTS were doing. When I talk about Jimin loving what he did in BTS, it's mostly about precovid times. Before 2020, to me he looked really satisfied with their career.

It wasn't the same after dynamite, tho. They even used to do music shows until MOTS7, but stopped after that. Then Yoongi said """we"""" don't like doing music shows because it's exhausting and nobody is paying us for that.

Dying of boredom | My thoughts on the social distancing

To quickly summarize my thoughts: a bit late there bud. Thanks for making 2020 the year I die of boredom.

But in all seriousness, I can see why it’s important. We all need to protect ourselves and even if I’m young, I could infect my family unknowingly. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s the social distancing that was advised by my dad, state, and national government due to COVID-19 or Coronavirus.

But here’s the thing… I started having a social life this year that literally, it’s has cancelled almost a lot of things I want to experience. Now, I’m dying of boredom due to this. And here are some of them.

My Dating life

As you may know, I started dating. I won’t share much but I will say, still great! Here’s the thing, due to reasons I will not disclose, my boyfriend and I made it a thing that we’d meet at least 3 times a week.

Before Corona, my dad was against us meeting so often due to fears of ‘us being bored of each other’ when in reality… not really since we learn more about each other and trying new things. There are places in Sydney that we haven’t visited. He barely visited my side of the woods too. He’s exposing me to ‘wholesome’ experiences that I never got the chance to do like eating ‘dry ramen’ and high tea. And there are experiences I’m getting him into like dragging down with me to the Yugioh rabbit hole.

But then CODVID-19 reached pandemic and the NSW Government released this.

 Social distancing reduces the risk of catching viruses like COVID-19. You can still work and use public transport but you should avoid crowds and gatherings, stay 1.5 metres away from others, avoid shaking hands, hugging and kissing and avoid visiting vulnerable people. 

THIS F*CKING SUCKS!!!

Yes, I’m aware it’s due to health and safety but I’m sad that I won’t be able to kiss my boyfriend due to new health regulations. I haven’t been kissed or loved or shown affection for YEARS and the time that happens, it’s advised I can’t have that anymore for the next few months.

The idea now is that we meet at least once a week… or fortnight. Which really is inconvenient due to the ‘undisclosed reason’ that will not be said.

And this isn’t one of the big inconvenience that happened. One of the biggest steps of our relationship has to be put on hold…

Meeting the grandma.

For context, in my family… in order for the S/O to be ‘really accepted/welcomed to the family’, they need to meet my grandma. All my cousins who had relationships have gone through it. One did it during the Christmas/New Year season. It was gonna be my turn to go through that process as my grandma was going to visit Australia till…

President Duterte locked down Metro Manila.

It kinda sucks but knowing my grandma’s medical history and the number of travel bans and restrictions being in-placed, now wouldn’t be the right time for her to arrive.

So yes… Dating + COVID-19 = huge inconvenience.

Music Festivals

For a long time, I wasn’t allowed to go to a music festival… let alone, CONCERTS!!! The rule is that I need to bring a ‘parent’ or ‘relative’ with me just so I don’t get ‘hurt’ or that ‘I will be protected’. And music festivals are a no-go due to drugs. That has been the case for a lot of gigs until 2017 when I went to see Muse in Sydney Olympic Park.

Long story short: I can now attend gigs on my own… at age 20 because the rules were lifted.

Then came My Chemical Romance.

MCR Cancelled

I had to choose between Pokemon Sword and Sheild and My Chemical Romance tickets (they were $200). And knowing the whole #GameFreakLied and the drama that was unfolding over on Twitter and Reddit, MCR felt like a better choice. The band is split years ago and this was like a reunion tour so it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

For some reason, my folks were cool with it for a few reasons:

It was ORIGINALLY held in Parramatta Park (which is nearby). But due to COVID restrictions, it was relocated.

I have 2 friends who are going (not together) so I won’t be alone (technically).

I know at least 2+ acts who are performing (Alestorm, Lacuna Foil, and MCR) so it’s not a huge waste of money.

It was on the weekend so it won’t interfere with my life commitments.

Then this:

NGL – I knew this was going to happen since the day before, they cancelled their Japan tour as well. Also, before this announcement, the Government banned events and gatherings with 500+ people so I knew this was gonna happen at some point.

Didn’t stop people from taking the piss out of the ruling.

But it’s not just Australia… all over the world, this is happening. So many gigs and events have to be cancelled and postponed that it’s clearly bumming us out. I have a friend who was gonna travel to the UK to see Hatari (and hopefully get me an exclusive pin) and that was shot down too.

Events closing down

I understand that events have to be closed down due to health and safety. But this meant that the events that I was looking forward to had to cancel as well. One of them was Vivid Sydney.

It’s a shame since I want to practice taking photos in Luna Park and improve my photography game. It’s basically a free-for-all in photography because everyone has their cameras on them.

Also, the Botanic Gardens get hella romantic during this night.

It’s not only Vivid, SMASH! got canned, the Japanese voice actors canned for MadFest, and the Easter Show as well. There go all the events and how we shall continue suffering in boredom.

Funny I mentioned about MadFest as Shingo Adachi, the last of the original Japanese guest, stayed and it was a huge honour meeting him.

And don’t get me started on Eurovision 2020 as we don’t know if it’s getting cancelled or if the performances will be all online.

It is now TOTALLY ACCEPTABLE to stay in your home

It has come to the point where my dad was like “you need to go outside more! Make some new friends! Don’t be online all the time” to “You need to stay inside as much as possible“. And it’s not just my dad… but also the government and health officials. And I get it, it’s for our health and safety. We need to protect ourselves, especially if we live with people who may be vulnerable. But the timing of all of this happening couldn’t have gone in a later time.

For once, I’m going out, getting that Vitamin D, having fun and a life but then all of this happened and I’m stuck to where I was last year… trapped in my bedroom to protect myself and others.

Not gonna lie, I like the indoors. I could practice doing makeup or play more Sims to compensate but I like going outside. I like dating and meeting my boyfriend, going to cons and concerts, and just having fun.

But due to this virus, all of that has to be put on hold for now. And since it will be a while till a vaccine is made, I guess I have to get used to the social distancing.

I’m literally going to be dying of boredom but I guess it’s for my own medical safety.

But please, for the love of God and all of us out there… WASH YOUR HANDS and STOP PANIC BUYING!!!
