♢ Her favorite animals are hyenas. She dreams about owning one?? She’s weird asf I know.

♢ I personally imagine her voice like the singer of Sohodolls (by the way, this song from the group is her main theme song)

♢ Surprisingly enough her favorite color is not white, but red and gold.

♢ She's multilingual and speaks: French, Russian, German, and English all fluently.

♢ She's 25 at the beginning of HYE, even if throughout her life people struggle to give her an age since she has this very woman-child aspect.

♢ Her style is quite modern for the era. When she doesn’t wear elegant and revealing dresses with gold jewels, capes or fur coats, she loves stealing one of Arthur’s shirts and tuck it in her skirt. Similarly, he had to buy a second coat ‘cause she had stolen his. Most of the time she either dresses like a goddess or a forest nymph.

Taylor’s use of 7 is Haylor, including seven: a thesis

Buckle up, friends. Ever since hearing the seven poem aloud on the Eras tour—with its explicit link to Wildest Dreams—it confirmed my long-held suspicion that *seven* is Haylor.

Some data:

- all track 7s post Red seem to be Haylor

- 7 is Harry’s number (added to hers you get 20, hence all the references to 20)

- seven is track 7 on folklore, the album Taylor released on 1D’s 10th anniversary. What? Harry had released Fine Line on her previous bday (#30, Dec 13/19) and she’d missed his Feb 1st day already.

But bestie, you might ask, how is it possible? Let me explain, drawing from details of the song.

We know that Anne and Des Styles divorce when Harry is 7. Anne has primary custody of H and Gemma in Holmes Chapel, but they remain close to Des whom they see on weekends.

But then, there is a period in their lives that no one knows much about and no one speaks about. Even this gem (which I am currently citing) - a 1D origin story has very little.

Harry has another stepdad whose last name is Cox (which was Anne’s name during 1D X factor time). His name was John. They family move to Great Budworth in the Cheshire countryside where Anne is landlady in a pub (and Harry talks fondly of ice cream runs and first girlfriends).

But then when H is around 12, Anne and the kids are back in Holmes Chapel. Anne eventually dates and gets serious with Harry’s beloved, now late stepdad Robin Twist. And Harry sometimes mentions his overwhelming desire to protect his Mom and Gemma at all costs.

No one ever mentions this guy. Ever.

Fast forward a few years to the magical December of 2012. After work commitments, Harry and Taylor spent 4 or 5 days in the north of England. It’s her 23rd birthday and be showers her with surprises and 23 thoughtful gifts (she’s not writing The Moment I Knew on his watch!). He gets her food from his childhood fave Chinese place and the bakery where he worked! He is showing her his life. It’s documented here…

Including their visit to a pub in Great Budworth and a drive around the area.

We have no idea what happened, but maybe Taylor does?

Taylor never got to take him to Pine Tree farm in rural PA, as far as we know. But in the depths of the pandemic, when no one could go anywhere, she paints him a picture of her PA childhood.

And in it, we find a fictionalized friend who has a difficult and maybe scary father figure. One from whom Taylor wishes she could save and protect her friend, despite crossing her heart and promising not to tell.

What a gift, to affirm the struggle this child went through, and to show her care and desire to *be with them in it*.

She wanted to scoop him up and take him away from the closet tears to play pirates and “run away to India”. What kid in rural PA wishes to go there? Come on! 😭😭😭

And then, here are the lyrics she pens:

And most significantly - *love you to the moon and to Saturn* 🌙🪐 !!!!!

I firmly believe this. this wall to wall slaps. there was one point in "one thing" where I thought he was gonna say youve got... pussy. anyway he didn't say that. there are some PROFOUNDLY 2011 synth moments in this. best lyric: all of what makes you beautiful. I DO want to stay up all night!!!! 4.5/5

take me home: getting a little more risqué -- we are "[taking] it all the way". whoa! in addition to expressing lust there's more themes of jealousy, as well as genuine tenderness. aurally more diverse than their debut. best lyric: I can't compete with your boyfriend cuz he's got 27 TATTOOOOOS. so specific... 3.7/5

midnight memories: my favorite 1d song is on this album which is the story of my life which is genuinely so beautiful and moving. just a really lovely timeless song. best lyric is actually the concept of best song ever, which is not in fact the best song ever, but merely a description of the experience of listening to the best song ever. 4/5

4: as mc pointed out this album shares a title with beyonces best album. I will say that I was confused because there are five members of one direction, until I realized 4 is in fact about the number that the album is and not the number of lads present. anyway. this is genuinely a fantastic album. steal my girl is the platonic ideal of a pop song. girl almighty is just fucking GOOD. i fucking love it. its dynamic and genuine and fucking bops above all. night changes. night changes. night changes. night changes. the nostalgia it conjures, and I never even ate spaghetti with Zayn. no control is WONDERFUL vibe wise. and the whole album SOUNDS so 2014. this album really is freshman year of college. act my age is just fucking wonderful, an anthem (and sorry but the comparison must be made -- better than when I'm 64). 6/5. boy bands at their peak. pop at its peak. you don't get better than this album

made in the am: I was GUTTED to see Zayn is not on this album, but good for him. I wish he'd make more solo music bc his first album slapped but I understand that hes busy being a dilf these days. still. I said you don't get better than 4, but you do, and it's made in the am. its still got that boy band pep but it's branching out into actual vibes. I am so sad retroactively that they broke up bc 4 and made in the am are IT. 10/5. pop album of all time

overall rating: 28.2/25. A+

reflections: 1d is so unpretentious. obviously that's the point of a boyband in a lot of ways, but it's just refreshing to hear something uncomplicated and there's no bad words and nothing but these curated, shimmering performances of emotion. and each one of these emotions lasts about 3 minutes and 35 seconds. its perfectly contained! I love these songs also because by the second chorus you already know all the words and the tune which is PRIME sing along material. I do think its interesting how curated the album covers are. they are having such an insanely good time in them because if they don't have a good time they're not going to get to get their daily ration of tesco brand digestive cookies. its so easy to be a hater on this cold bitch of an earth but one of my fave concert experiences really was in the year 2021 screaming the lyrics to what makes you beautiful with harry "its like a movie that's a movie" styles. I loved this experience and all the new bops I found. I foresee them to be the perfect antidote for dissociating on my morning commute.

How can you not be a hater of Taylor though?? She's... ugh I can't stand her. She's like the slightly younger version of Olivia Wilde with her girl boss feminism.

eh, to hate is to care, right? i can recognize all her shitty behaviour, manipulating her own fans, love for money and capitalism and the performative wokeness and still enjoy her music. idk, i've never spent a dime on her apart from buying tickets to her shows here next year cause i'm going with good friends (and mind you, i spent less money on two very good tickets than i did for harry's jonny's place for one show lol). she's just... there for me and the reason why i reblogged the 1989 announcement is cause this album holds a lot of sentimental value for me. i listened to it a lot during the times where i refused to stan and obsess over real people, so i had no idea about any drama surrounding it or what the songs are supposed to be referencing. this album is the early mornings i spent on a bus to my high school and the sunsets i was watching through the window. it's another lonely summer i had to live through away from all of my friends cause i was stuck in my village. so yeah, i'm gonna be excited about this one thing, even after i learnt everything that's attached to it all the years later (i didn't even know who style is supposed to be about, can you imagine ahsjdj and that song was my fave off the album initially which i now think must have been a joke or a foreshadowing from the universe lol).

besides, these days i consider it a bit ironic and funny watching people still hold such a huge grudge against her so passionately when harry himself seems to not have problems to be friendly with her and is doing exactly the same things she has been doing her whole career 🤷‍♀️ i'm not gonna be fighting battles for people who waved the white flag a long time ago.

I’ve listened to this podcast and hosts we’re talking about harry styles album and one of them said, that she likes it very much and never listens to it, when she’s anxious or in some kind of otherwise bad mood. And her friend were like, yeah totally, so every time you hear this album, it will associate in your mind with something good, positive, pleasurable. And I’m really get them! There are certain songs, that I will only listen to in a very nice, beautiful even, environment. Like, I wanna hear a song, and be able to instantly teleport to this “happy place” I associate with it. I’ve done this with SMFSD since it’s been out. And let me tell you, now, when I’m dancing in my kitchen I relive those beautiful moments, when I listened to the album by the sea, or riding through forest trails on my bike))) do you practice this kind of thing for any of your fave artists?

Awwwww I love this idea! I don't think I do it so consciously, especially not with music. I'm not one of those people who listens to a lot of music while depressed (I know some people are; that's not just me), but I definitely get how listening to a lot of music in a particular circumstance will always work to trigger that for you. I used to put on my All Fall Out Boy playlist for my last day of the long, multi-day drives I used to have to make several times a year, and it was always a nice way to feel like I was close to being done. But I have to admit I listen to Fall Out Boy so much and in so many certain circumstances that I don't have a certain connection necessarily. But the first time I listened to "Love from the Other Side," when the single dropped, I was walking the dog and I remember exactly where we were on the college campus we walk on, so that will always be a nice memory of that, I suppose <3 (The rest of the album I listened to for the first time sitting up in bed and I'll probably always remember that, too.)

The one thing I can really remember with a song getting tainted with a bad experience the day my grandfather died I remember the radio being on in the kitchen and it was playing Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles." I was never crazy in love with that song, so it's not like it ruined that song for me, but I will always remember that. Also, when my great-grandmother died, it was back when you had to listen to music on portable CD players if you were traveling, and I flew home kind of last-minute to see her on her deathbed, and I forgot to pack any CDs, so the only one I had with me was Fiona Apple's "Extraordinary Machine," and I just listened to it on endless repeat on the plane while I cried. But that's actually a good album for that kind of experience, I think lolololol (and I still absolutely adore that album).

When I was still working at a law firm and very depressed, I tried to be really careful about what I watched. Like, I didn't want to watch "Doctor Who" when I was in my worst moods because I didn't want to taint "Doctor Who." That was when I started watching a ton of HGTV, because it all so low-stakes and I didn't have to do any thinking about it. I really thought this would ruin HGTV for me but I still watch a ton of HGTV and I always just find it very soothing tbh. Which makes me very happy.

well… hold my beer lmao. that’s how a song can have different interpretations for different people. i’ve just seen a post saying that when they listen to a song they don’t automatically think about who it’s written for, bc that’s quite creepy tbh and i completely agree. i see it as how i interpret it and to what extent do i identify with it. obviously, after listening to it 80 times you start connecting dots and seeing “hidden clues”, bc deep down you’re still a swiftie who knows taylor’s life better than the press. but!! you still have nothing sure and the control to see things only where you wanna see them, yk?

for example: am i aware of the ootw call in question...? yes. of style’s sad boy/good girl refs and the double meaning in gender roles? sure. but my head also considerates lines like “you painted all my nights a color i’ve searched for since”, “you’re not sure and i don’t know”, “did you wish you’d put up more of a fight when she said it was too much? do you wish you could still touch her?” or “half-moon eyes”. and bc generally, questioning those things and kissing someone in a crowded room when everyone makes fun of you and claps /coughs kissgate, exclaims gay as hell. so based on my experience i will interpret it as such. besides is one of my fave songs of the album and i hate to ruin it by thinking about a guy i don’t even know instead of dancing to it as a gay anthem.

then there’s maroon, which is more of the same but even more explicit. everyone keeps saying it’s 100% about jake bc the first impression they got was thinking about the color red and taking everything for granted. that’s it, there are no more possible interpretations! well, guess what?? there are thousands!!! and the most obvious one to me is if when listening to it i find “laughing with my feet in your lap like you were my closest friend”, “carnations you had thought were roses, that’s us” and !!! “the lips i used to call home, so scarlet” /that they left marks in her collarbone??? ….like, sorry bestie but i refuse to picture jake with red lipstick leaving marks on you - or me ftm, if i relate to the song. i can’t see it anyway. but you know what i can see, without even wondering who is she talking about??… i see perfectly how a gay relationship can be full of lipstick marks so, cheers to that

Harry Styles, Mr. Cool himself, is afraid of how he’s coming off! You know he’s down bad because of this song.

The rhythm breakdown starting at 1:52 is John’s playing for sure and I wish we could hear more of his soloing in there, but maybe we’ll get that live one day? A fave. Love this song. SUMMER VIBES ☀️

Again, obsessed with the vocals. This is a really beautiful song to close off the album with.

Overall thoughts:

The production level is so high on this, it’s clear he’s got some of the best people in the business with him. He’s taken command of his voice in an impressive way on this record, and his confidence as a songwriter is also more clear now. As I’ve mentioned before I could do without the corny/unnecessary drug references, but alas..This is a very, very solid, cohesive album and I just love how he’s just doing his own thing and not caring about following trends. I can’t even imagine how good he’s gonna get and I’m so proud of how far he’s come and he keeps improving and improving. 🥰 Right now my faves are: satellite, daydreaming, cinema, matilda, little freak, daylight and music for a sushi restaurant!

Favourite time of the year: Late Autumn (summers where i live are really freezing, and i love mid november temperatures)

Comfort food: probably sinigang or chicken adobo (my lola used to make it for me a lot when i was around 3 or 4 since it was all i would eat)

Do you collect something?: I collect tons of things. Too many things.

I collect vinyl, which is just an extension of my dad's collection from the 70s, so it's more just a joint collection. I've got a complete US coin collection. I've also got quite the extensive ball marker collection, which includes a rainbow, seahorse, and ladybug all embezzled with swarovski crystals, and a harry styles ball marker! (I'm a competitive golfer, so i get a marker from each course i play too)

Favourite Drink: I'll always go for a vanilla or honey iced latte. or a good shot of espresso. just coffee.

Favourite Song: i'm quite indecisive, and a creature of habit, so really my music taste is quite extensive while also being super precise? i've really been loving Wash by Bon Iver recently - the lyrics and the melody are beautiful and comforting, along with Good Grief by Bastille, and of course, Fine Line by Mr. Styles

Favourite Fanfic: don't do this to me. i'll never pick. instead have my faves as of this moment:

Down the Line - i'll rec this until the very day i die (baseball au) And Then a Bit - one of my favorite canon compliant/fake dating fics of all time (plus the way she writes her characters is my fav) Tired Tired Sea - a classic. i'm always up for a re-read Call Answered - goes wonderfully with As it Was, i re-read it with As it Was playing and just cried the entire time. (i like my hurt and long fics can you tell?)

M.I.L.K. - With Freshness

Overall, very impressed with Milk. There was a decent amount of variety on the album, although they did maintain that kind of soft vocal mixing, I dunno how to explain it but I’m sure you can tell what I mean. The guitars felt super out of place whenever they were included but it totally worked for me. I can imagine other people not vibing as much though. It’s neat to see the “change up” in this album; Seo Taiji did similar things, but Milk are no Seo Taiji. Average score of 6.8 which feels about right. It was good, there were good parts, but as a whole I wouldn’t say the album was anything super special.

Crystal

Cracked up at the “don’t worry bout it” after that intro

The actual sound is very … well, crystal

MV is … bad CGI lol

Love the autotune, I think it’s used well here. Not bon bon chocolat, a lot more restraint

I have no idea where the chorus is or what the hooks are, but i love the vibe

Why each element contributes to you as a creative:

Badminton racket/medal: Growing up, sports have always been in my life. I used to play netball, softball, and badminton. Badminton has played a significant role in my life - it has opened up various opportunities for me. I have learnt and gained great insight into different cultures and the community which has really inspired me as a creative.

Candles: I love the calmness they make me feel. I have also delved into making a few candles in the past.

Adidas shoes: I wear these shoes a ton! They have a special meaning to me and I feel that I am expressing myself when I wear these.

Bracelet from grandparents: My grandparents gifted me with a bracelet with my name engraved into it. I still have it with me and it carries so many memories with it.

Letter from my year 13 design teacher: I did design throughout high school, as I felt that I could express myself. In the later years, I really didn't know if what I was creating was good, and was losing passion. My design teacher believed in me and wrote this letter that I have kept ever since, which is one of the reasons I am pursuing design.

English bag: I got this bag in the UK from my grandma who loves fashion. It resembles a little piece of my cultural background.

Rock: When I visit places I like to collect mementos such as rocks. They are so unique in their own way, and each one reminds me of where I've been and how i felt duing that time.

Pencils: I love sketching, I have done it ever since I was little as it is a way for me to just chill out. These are a couple of the pencils I use.

Photograph of great grandma: My English background has definitely had an impact on who I am as a creative person. My great-grandma used to be a nurse in the war period and brought up her 2 daughters on her own. She has really inspired me in that sense.

Lego: I have loved creating with Lego ever since I was little. I found this to be a gateway for me as a creative as I could make whatever I wanted and express.

Karen Walker jewellery box: My friends gifted me with a Karen Walker ring for my birthday, and I have fallen in love with not only the connection to it but also the packaging.

Boney M album cover/record: My grandparents have a record player and we used to play this song all the time, influencing me on music.

Scarf made by grandma: My grandma is quite creative in the sense of knitting, painting and hand-crafting things. Watching her create has definitely impacted how I want to create.

Parkrd tote bag: I collect tote bags. This one in particular is one of my faves as I love music and I love the way it has been made.

Handmade mug: I painted this mug a while back and I still remember the process of how it was crafted which I had found interesting.

Harry styles lanyard: Harry Styles is my fav artist. I have grown up knowing his music for years. His songs have really impactful meanings for me and the community he has created with his fans has been so powerful and seeing all of the diversity, and how people feel comfortable expressing themselves is what has inspired me through my own work.

Laptop: My laptop is what holds the majority of my work and where I spend a lot of my time. It houses all of my skills and knowledge.

Jewellery box my grandma made: My grandma made this jewellery box which I find beautiful.

Darlic: I love movies and series. Doctor Who in particular has got to be one of my favourites as I love how different it is and I remember being so emersed

2022 favs meme! Thanks to @take-in-time for tagging me!

I truly don't remember half the things I've done but let's see! I've changed the format because it's me and I ramble.

If you want an excuse to ramble about your fave media, I'm tagging you!

favorite books

I was really into Roopa Farooki's books this year. She's a Pakistani-British writer, and her books are about dysfunctional Pakistani families that are immigrants. I read:

-Everything is True, about her time as a doctor in the first 40 days of Covid

-The Way Things Look to Me, about three siblings whose parents have died, meaning the two older siblings need to support the youngest, and how they do (or don't) do that.

-The Good Children, about four siblings, two men and two women, who grew up with an abusive mum, and how that's impacted their lives as adults

favorite movies

I never goddamn watch movies even though I should. So here are the ones I've watched that I enjoyed:

-The Bad Guys (the animated one with another wolf man to add to the tumblr's furry roster)

-The Batman (It was so long but yeah I really liked it!)

-Uhhhhhhhh

-Thor Love and Thunder (it was mindless, not as good as Ragnarok, but I had fun)

-Rehearsal for a Murder (I watched this one cos the local community theatre is going to produce it next year and I wanted to see if any parts suited me. Alas not. But it was a good film! Also young Jeff Goldblum lmao)

-This was the year of Rina Sawayama for me, especially XS, Bad Friend, Hold the Girl, and Frankenstein

-Actual Shows though?? Uhhhh I've watched Spy x Family and Mob Psycho 100 and those are good

-This is a statement I'm going to put out into the world: I WILL watch succession next year, instead of just going into the tag, and watching youtube compilations

I'm adding Favourite Games because this is all I think about:

-DISCO ELYSIUM a game I have never played because I'd just get anxious but love So Much

-Persona 5, a game I have only watched a playthrough of but may One Day Play when it is less than $100 on steam

-Death's Door -it's very cute and difficult but not too hard!

-Coral Island - It's only early access but Boy it's good

-Dead Cells

-The Great Ace Attorney a game I'd like to play but am currently just watching it being streamed by Rythian

-The Case of the Golden Idol - I watched Secret Sleepover Society play it and it's So Good. It's very Obra Dinn like and that's one of my favourite games

favorite memories:

-seeing lots of plays with the acting class! especially the First Prime Time Asian Sitcom which really just drilled a hole into my brain and was like 'hey all the issues around media representation for Asian people you think about so much? lets talk about it)

-hanging out with the Coffee Crew (when I had the spoons which is not often) and laughing til I cry

-i went to the museum for my birthday and brought my family along and it went super well! We thought it would be too much for my sister cos crowds but she loved it!

-I'm a fully registered speech therapist now! I love my work, and my colleagues, in this brutal capitalist hellscape I've got one of the best jobs and workplaces ever.

-Every time I go to see a child and their face lights up because they're so happy to see me. Best part of the job!!

I always thought that Glitch is about Harry. Here's my interpretation of the song:

We were supposed to be just friends (they did become friends after the broke up in 2013, but they couldn't stay just friends)

You don't live in my part of town, but maybe I'll see you out some weekend (they both lived in LA, Harry even bying a house near hers, but later on sold it while he still lived in LA. In cardigan she also says: Playing hide-and-seek and giving me your weekends)

Depending on what kind of mood and situation-ship I'm in (Harry's Satellite lyrics: I'm in an L.A. mood, I don't wanna talk to you. She said, "Give me a day or two")

And what's in my system

I think there's been a glitch, oh, yeah

Five seconds later, I'm fastening myself to you with a stitch, oh, yeah (Harry's song Woman: And promises are broken like a stich is. It's also probably a small nod to the stitches Harry got in the snowmobile accident)

And I'm not even sorry (There's an interview I believe, I can't find it, but it was when Taylor was promoting 1989 and I don't remember who said it but they said something along the lines of and you should've called the song Style "I'm not even sorry" at this point cause it was too obvious it was about Harry)

In search of glorious happenings of happenstance on someone else's playground (She was supposed to forget Harry with getting with Joe, but obviously she couldn't cause she's still writing about him)

But it's been two thousand one hundred and 90 days of our love blackout (I always thought that the "and it's been 2190 days of our love blackout" as in that the said relationship had ended that long ago, hence the blackout.)

A brief interruption, a slight malfunction

I'd go back to wanting dudes who give nothing ("Go back to dudes who give nothing" as in "all you ever wanted from me was nothing" in Sweet Nothing which is about Joe??)

Cambridge dictionary definition of the word Glitch: a small problem or fault that prevents something from being successful or working as well as it should

They definitely weren't successful in the end

Thanks for sharing this analysis, Anon. I think it is more of a stretch to think this song is entirely about HS; I still think it is entirely or mostly about YB (or written to look that way). That said: if we get more info on future tracks, I will absolutely reassess.

A couple things I want to lift out:

The “town” references I usually thought to mean “the music industry” and YB was torn adjacent at best, hence not the same town.

I think Blondie and YB spent the summer as friends after the fabled hand touch (during the TH era) and then the Delicate hookup time, which surprised her. And they started seeing each other and that’s the time she’s writing about.

I do love that you mentioned the “I’m not even sorry” quote; it is one of my TS faves. Thanks for send the link in a subsequent ask.

It’s the closest she has ever, ever come to specifically saying that a song is about someone, lol.
