What’s the Darcy myth book?

Oh God. Um. Basically, it’s a book called The Darcy Myth, which has the meanest, most asinine, most bewildering misreading of Pride and Prejudice with the thesis that characters like Darcy have made generations of silly female novel readers stupidly love mean, moody, distant men and long for emotionally abusive relationships. I’ve only read reviews of it because the reviews have made me foaming at the mouth angry about the whole flawed premise— Espeically the fact that in the WaPo review of the book the author said that the Darcy myth props up a Gothic and patriarchal universe that trains women from childhood to invest in men who treat them poorly.

It also posits the Dumbfuck ideas that P&P is all about a heroine’s ability to fix a broken man (WRONG WRONG WRONG JANE AUSTEN’S ENTIRE OUEVRE EXAMINES THE INTERSECTION OF SOCIETAL FORCES AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY AND POINTS OUT THAT CHANGE CAN ONLY COME FROM WITHIN) and is the classic enemies to lovers (HUGELY FUCKING WRONG ELIZABETH IS INDIFFERENT TO DARCY UNTIL WICKHAM AND DARCY’S IN LOVE OR FALLING IN LOVE WITH ELIZABETH MOST OF THE BOOK. thinking about Dak'kon in Planescape Torment (initially because Lae'zel's popularity in Baldur's Gate 3 has me thinking about how the contrast between her and Dak'kon is a pretty good description of how thier respective peoples have diverged and also why they hate each other so much) and specifically his statline in how that nicely corrosponds to his own personal conflicts

Dak'kon is a zerth, a sort of warrior monk that practices martial skill and magical ability and serve as guardians of the githzerai cities, and due to a partially manufactured crisis of faith, he no longer truly has certainty in anything; not in the teachings of his faith, and not in himself. This is reflected in him being the only multi-class character in the game in a traditional sense; he is a fighter/mage, leveling up one after the other.

Dak'kon's stat layout is, after he is fully upgraded: Strength 18, Dexterity 18, Constituion 18, Intelligence 13, Wisdom 13, and Charisma 13. On the one hand he has high stats across the board; mechanically, he's both a capable spell-slinger that can act in support or as a combat caster, and he's a frontline tank. In what is most likely intended to be the canon-ish playthrough, he is the ONLY front-line damage dealer in a traditional sense. He can hit like a truck, once you add him to your party he is likely to be your main damage dealer, and he's just very strong across the board. This is an excellent stat line... for a fighter.

But he is also a mage, and for this, his intelligence isn't AWFUL (in fact, he's significantly more intelligent than an ordinary person would be, which is also reflected in interactions) but its not as high as would be ideal for a more specialized mage. His intelligence is significantly lower than it should be for anyone that is taking any kind of levels in wizard (and Torment's mage class is very much a wizard); his spell slots are notably less numerous, and he's most likely to be a fighter with some casting capability.

This reflects his in-game story. Dak'kon's crisis of faith was exacerbated by a holy writ of sorts that takes the form of a complex puzzle, and one of the accounts is of how Zerthimon, the prophet revered by Dak'kon's people, deceived his illithid masters by pretending to submit to them. Dak'kon has his doubts because another such teaching concerns a traitor, and then what he assumes to be the final teaching is of Zerthimon's conflict with Gith, founder-queen of the githyanki, when their peoples split. Dak'kon has come to fear that Zerthimon gave in and became a slave to their illithid captors, which was why he divided their people at the eve of victory, and if you ask him about this, he gives one of the VERY FEW impassioned and furious speeches he makes in the game, when normally he is very calm and detached.

If you have a high intelligence and wisdom scores (significantly higher than Dak'kon's, in fact) you can puzzle out more combinations to the teachings and unlock further ones Dak'kon had not found; these provide him an answer to his crisis of faith and ease his soul; Zerthimon did not give in to the illithids, but he recognized that should his people follow the path of war and conquer all that might threaten them, they would lose who they are. But the mechanical bit is that Dak'kons stats are too low to do so; he has no idea these teachings exist at all.

Furthermore, to recruit Dak'kon at all, you must speak to him on philosophy; its not difficult to have a fairly high Wisdom and Intelligent stat combination to pass this without much trouble, and this further indicates how his statline is a bit sub-par for someone in his line of work. He expresses some profound philosophical attitudes and says them well, but he's hard pressed to defend them when you poke holes in them, and he just gloomily concedes. Part of this is that, again, he IS having a crisis of faith and he has difficulty reconciling these problems to other people.

Sitri and the Others

We're going to look at Byleth's mother, Sitri. Who was she? What was she like? Were there others like her?

Let's unpack!

Creation

I thought that I could regain all I had lost, if only I could revive my mother... And so I tried to bring her back by creating a body, and then burying a Crest Stone within it. A young woman I created...my twelfth try after much heartache...was a failure.

Rhea created twelve vessels in order to revive her mother. She did this by creating a (human) body, and embedding the Crest of Flames in it. All of these vessels were failures as they lacked the conscience of the goddess. And yet, the Crest of Flames would give life to the body. These vessels would come and go in the span of a thousand years. The twelfth one was called Sitri.

Life

Sitri grew up with a frail constituion and was unable to go outside the monastery because of that.

Still, people talked to her. Aelfric and Jeralt were two men who held romantic feelings for her. Sitri did not smile often, but she would always brighten up when Jeralt brought her flowers. The two of them fell in love over time, and Aelfric was willing to watch her walk away, if only she kept smiling.

Sitri and Jeralt wed, and she became pregnant in time. She was so happy during this time, but that joy would not last long.

Death

The childbirth was too much for her and the baby. Byleth was stillborn, and Sitri was in grave danger. Sitri pleaded with Rhea to save her baby.

"My heart... Give it to my child."

Doing nothing would have led to the death of both the mother and child, and so Rhea granted her final wish. It worked. The baby started breathing.

Sitri died, surrendering her life so Byleth's might begin.

Vessels

Sitri and Byleth's names are derived from demons mentioned in the Ars Goetia. Listed in order of sigil, you get:

Beleth

Not all of these names are feminine-sounding. While it seems unlikely that Rhea would create male vessels for her mother, it is not outside the realm of possibility. She never raises any concern about Byleth possibly being male.

There is also the possibility that some names might've been slightered altered to sound more feminine if all the vessels were female.

Or the names could pass off as either gender. It really depends on how you view it.

Soul

One might wonder if the eleven vessels before Sitri had their own souls like she did. I lean towards yes. Rhea doesn't sacrifice lives to revive her mother; otherwise, she would've shanked the apostles and drained all their blood for the Rite of Rising.

I believe that did they have their own souls and that they lived as long as they could because Rhea didn't want to outright murder them. A thousand years divided by twelve gives you around 83 years for each vessel's lifespan. Of course, they were likely frail and had shorter lifespans than the average person, but that still gives each of them a relatively long life.

Nabatean..?

Sitri has green hair and green eyes like Nabateans, but we never see her ears, so who knows. Rhea does say in the Japanese version that she created a human body, but that might be a translation error on my part.

Frosty Ruins "Here Comes Peter Cottontail 1971"

Just like with Christmas and with anything Christian there is going to be a culture of trying to shift focus away from Christ and onto some goofy nonsense that has nothing to do with it. For the celebration of Christs death and resurrection we have…the easter bunny, painted eggs and chocolate. And now this year we also have the government tranny holiday trying to steal focus.

Now with Santa and all that I understand it and am ok with it more because it still ties in with the theme. Jesus was brought gifts so we bring each other gifts…santa is based on a saint who brought the poor/orphaned presents and the whole idea of giving is consistent with Christian values…it makes more sense. With Easter it's just a whole bunch of totally unrelated nonsense. Rabbits have nothing to do with Christ or the celebration, painting and hunting for eggs also have nothing to do with anything, even the name Easter has nothing to do with Christ. However It's a bunch of nonsense that if people choose to do it as part of their celebration of course there's nothing wrong with that. I've said before I'm totally ok with coopting other celebrations and integrating with other things…Easter is more of a celebration of spring, and even spring can be reflected in the resurrection story. So I personally get nothing from the easter decor and the non-Christian easter traditions but I don't begrudge anyone who does. Even as a kid I wasn't really into the aesthetics of easter…I liked that we got chocolate but that was it.

What I do like however is a good Rankin Bass holiday special, so in this instance I was willing to give it a chance. Though the rudderless nature of the story has the characters all seeming ridiculous. I'm not sure why the host is a leprechaun man, or why there's a caterpillar that's also a frenchman, or why one of the charactes is a hat…like just a hat. I mean is it possible to be more removed from the meaning of the holiday than jewish people writing a song for a french wormguy to sing to a rabbit about painting american flag eggs for july 1st? Almost sounds intentionally far removed doesn't it? The only thing that would make it more obvious of a subversion attempt was if it had witches in it or something…oh wait it does.

The premise for the secular easter story is so thin this story has to contrive a time travel scenario and then borrow and interpose the facets of easter into all the other mainstream holidays. The irony that the villain at one point tells Santa (who yes is also in this) to stick to his own holiday is palpable. I wasn't a fan of the throwing all the holidays in a blender thing and never have.

The plot is too goofy and not even in a magical cartoon kind of way…it's almost like a reflection of politics, they are trying to decide who the new easter bunny should be. One of which is a child hating ass hole who hates easter and wants to ruin it and ruin their home and way of life. So of course they have to follow their constituion and let this guy have a chance even though absolutely nobody thinks they would be a good easter bunny and they cheat to win. Actually it's a perfect metaphor for politics.

But one of the funny parts of the story is that part of the villains scheme to ruin easter is to declare rabbits and chicks will no longer be the symbols of the holiday and instead they would have to make it "spiders and octopuses"…and I'm just here like…ok, that's not any less arbitrary than rabbits and chicks why not?

I do love the stop motion animation style and some of the visual gags are excellent. I'm totally indifferent to the music though. It's not bad, I don't have anything negative to say about it but I also don't particularly like it, so I guess I'll just say it's not for me. I know some of the music was very memorable for kids who grew up with this movie...but mostly it's just the last titular song they remember.

One of the things that most bothers me about this version of the easter bunny is the way they depict the easter bunny as openly approaching children and offering them eggs in person. It kind of ruins the idea of the easter bunny hiding chocolates and stuff, it didn't even get easter egg hunting right…like that's the one solitary interesting thing about the secular easter and they fucked that up. There's no magic or mystery for kids. They just have to… go oh this is a make believe story because on easter I've never seen an acual bunny handing out eggs directly to me so it must be made up. And the way he goes about trying to give them out for other holidays by just making shit up is also annoying and makes the main character less sympathetic.

It was also really weird how they stuffed in a romance thread into the last 10 minutes of the movie with a character they just introduced us to. Overall I'm comfortable saying this was a bad movie with a few small redeeming qualities.

I saw that other anon about DoL and I fucking LOVE that game so I’m here to talk about it

The reason you haven’t watched any play throughs is because there. Aren’t any. It’s a very text heavy RPG, with lots of stat management elements to it. Not to say its bad or tedious, it just takes some getting used to if you don’t play those kinds of games.

So rlly the best way to experience it is to play it yourself. It’s free online and if you have an android device the app isn’t very large so it’s easy to play. I always use cheat mode bc I’m not one for actually playing the game so much as I like running around and doing whatever I want.

I LOVE the lvl of character customization and the fact that you can even customize the player’s love interests to an extent. They’re all gender neutral and have no little to no appearance descriptions so you can imagine them however you want.

The character anon was talking about might have been Kylar or Eden. Kylar the loner is a character that becomes obsessed with the MC and eventually kidnaps them, and Eden the hunter kidnaps the MC and keeps them in their canon in the middle of the woods as a little housewife/husband.

Personally my favorite is Whitney the bully just bc even when you do have them as a love interest in the game, they’re still a jerk, and I love to get pushed around. They’re so mean to MC 🥰

I've decided to read up a little on the wiki (which is what I do with all the videogames I play anyways), because my wifi has been shitting itself all day and would completely fail if I tried to download a game rn, and... Well the wiki does have me excited. I kinda do want to play this-- there are so many routes, there are so many choices, and the gameplay branches and can feel organic! That sounds like a bot response lol, so specifically I started with Edens page.

Eden does sound like my type <333 It's like Rook but without the preteniousness. And more likely to use a gun or an automatic crossbow than a manual bow and arrow. I think Edens more my type because I love the idea of having to fight for your survival, almost like a death game trope where you need to strategize to escape. And to keep it interesting, Eden is actually smart enough to counter my plans, ad we could keep going until one of us gets bored and either 1. Eden kills me, or 2. I submit to stockholm. My perfect yandere <3

I've got another anon who said I might like Kylar? For some reason? What exactly is my vibe that says I want a boy who's got the constituion of a cotton ball? I need someone who can hold their own against me-- Kylar is described as super short! I love a short king, don't get me wrong, but usually said short king isn't also quiet, submissive, and a prime target for bullying. Bakers Dozen: Liscensed Ships I want in Star Trek Online

Welcome back to Bakers Dozen! This time we return to Star Trek Online ships, but instead of canon, its liscensed. Simply put, 12 ships (and one honorable mention) I want in STO, that aren’t canon, but appeared in an offical Star Trek Product (Books, Comics, Games, Ect.)

1.Premonition Class 

Hailing from Star Trek Armada, The U.S.S. Premonition went back in time to warn the Enterprise E of an impeding borg invasion. I never had the full game, but I played the demo countless times. Just look at her. She aleady looks like an Sto ship. One of the most iconic Star Trek Video games ships, I think she would be a great ship to appear in the current arc time/multiverse themed arc.

2.Yorktown Class (ENT Era)

Long before Captain Seven of Nine commanded the enterprise, and even long before STO. There was a Yorktown Class Starship in Star Trek Legacy. Star Trek legacy was the first star trek game I owned, and the Yorktown was a favorite of mine. The battleship to the NX Cruiser, the Yorktown was a powerhouse in the 22nd century. She’d need a new name, as the current Enterprise in STO is a very different Yorktown Class, but we could always use more Enterprise era ships.

3.Belknap/Ascension Class

Quite possibly my favorite TMP Era design (yes including the refit) The Belknap from  Ships of the Star Fleet Vol. 1 is the Constitution Refit’s smaller agile cousin. Stripped of diplomatic suites and scientic labratories, the Belknap posseses the Constituion’s firepower in a more compact and agile frame.

A “Dreadnoght” version exists, the Ascension class, but it’s literally a Belnap with the third nacelle of a Federation classs refit, maybe to give her longer warp sustainability?

4.Andor Class

This TMP era missle cruiser was introduced with FASA, and I loved this odd ball. I could see her functioning as a TMP era defiant, a small ship darting in with heavy torpedo fire. Also more TMP is always a win

5.Archer Class

Apperaing in the Star Trek Vangaurd Novels, this was a tiny tos scout ship, with only a crew of 14, and still didn’t have enough room for personal bunks. Incredibly fast and agile, she was too small for turbolifts, instead only having ladders.  Pls let me 1v1 a cube with this smol ship. Also TOS Ships are always a win.

6. Aegis Class

The U.S.S. Aegis is the hero ship of Star Trek Bridge Crew, and my god what a gorgeous ship. STO needs more Kelvin ships, and what better one than a proper Hero ship that has her own games, and looks this good?

7.Romulan Warbird, Unknown Class

This Stormbird (Romulan D7) esk dreadnought appeared in the DC Star Trek Comics in the 80s. Decades later, younger me would find the comics as a kid, and fall in love with this oship. Romulan TMP Warbird? Sign me up! Pls?

8.USS Dorothy Garrod

From the IDW Dicovery Comic, this Federation science vessel looks cool. Thats it. Thats all I know. Discovery rep is always a win.

9.D-18 Gull Class

A Klingon ship from Fasa, this is a troop transport. Its weird and I love it. I had a fried who 3d prints move the neck to the top of the secondary hull and flip the bridge module upside down for a more traditional look, but I dont have any good pics of her on hand.

10. Chandley Class

Speaking of troop transports, The Chandley is perhaps Fasa’s most popular ship, and its not hard to see why. Maybe Sto, could give her a boarding console. 

11.Saladin/Hermes

Orginally appearing in the Star Fleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph, this ship has TOS and TMP varaints, as well as a Kelving timeline version from both the comics and Star Trek Fleet Command. Simple yet iconic, with so many flavors. Legendary Discovery Variant?

12.Insignia Class

This gorgeous ship originally was a fan design, then was included in the Ships of the Line calender. It later appeared in the TNG Waypoint comics as the ‘Chimer’ class...USS ENTERPRISE???

This version of the Enterprise served at the same time as the Enteprise E (ummmm?) and was commanded by Geordi La Forge.

The Chimer name sucks though. Insignia class is a way better name.

Locknar class

Another Fasa Ship, this is an honorable mention bc it is kinda...maybe...canon?

In Lower Decks we she the USS Titan’s lineage wall...including what was confirmed to be a Locknar class USS Titan?

alfred is like a big brother to her, and she'd be a lot worse off without him in her life. she doesn't understand why he forgave her for the stuff she did to firene in the past, but at the same time she is so very thankful that he did. she doesn't know what she would do if alfred of all people hated her. (even if she thinks he should.)

veyle inspires to be as positive and energetic as he is, and she wishes she could light up a room with smiles like he can. though he seems strong and healthy, she does ocassionally worry about him. humans are already fragile, and she knows (vaguely, at least) of the weak constituion that alfred has. she hasn't said anything about these thoughts to him, since she knows people already worry about him enough. rather than placate her own anxiety about his bad health, she would rather cherish the time she has with him now. she wants to create memories with him that she will always look back fondly on.

I have a question for all those MAGA’s out there. What do you think of Trump and his election lies now that Fox News has admitted in court they were all lies and they knew it.

This also applies to everything else for the most part. When will you all wake up and realize that because you had no actual core beleifs you were duped.

Now is the time to develop a true philosophy and then follow it.

Do you really beleive in the constitution and individual freedom from control? Or only for you but others should follow your beleif system? Understand the religion has nothing to do with government? Understand that business and private people can do what they want as long as they do not interfere with your individual rights.

Do you really beleive in rule of law? Meaning all those you supported should go to prison for breaking it?

Do your really believe in free trade for all? Study and find out the long term problems with tariffs and who they really harm.

Do you understand that capitalism is not cronyism? All business is good and the free market should monitor it not government. Government regulation in business is limited to actual protection of people not control.

Do you understand that what you think and beleive is right for you and your family is not necessarily right for others and allowing them to be as free as you is not wrong but the constitutional rule. Unless you can show how their belief actually cause you physical harm or harm to your property then it is none of your business and you have no right to interfere. This applies to all social issues as they have nothing to do with government or our constitution.

Have you actually studied history and found out how destructive populism is? How it is rarely right/correct. That is the reason we have a Republic instead of a straight democracy.

Have you studied history and found out the long term damage Nationalism does to a country and society? Our founders did and did not want that. That is why we have a constituion which is based on ideas not a country.

Have you realized what authoritarianism does to a country and society?

How it is against our constitution?

Have you realized that just because you do not agree with something or do not like it, it does not necessarily become a political issue. People will never agree 100% on anything but again live and let live. Not your issue so not your problem.

Have you realized how you have been used/conned? You fear things you do not understand and are easily swayed with more fear.

Have you realized how much your fear of what is not exactly like you has been used to turn you against immigration? Study facts and find out how beneficial it is. How countries that have fought it are dying out. How many jobs we have unfilled that immigrants are willing to fill. Have you realized that our founders wanted open borders and gave no immigration law ability to the government other then under security measures - meaning background checks and medical checks. Nothing else. Have you learned from history how the benefits far outweigh any detriments? Have you realized the issue is our immigration laws not our borders. You should be proud that people are willing to die to come here. We represent ideas that do not exist elsewhere and we want those that share those ideas and ideals.

There is so much more but if you study and use our constitution as your guide as it was intended then you will learn the truth about all the other issues.

There was a gentle knock at Yuko’s bedroom door, followed by a brief silence. Then, another knock- followed by a quiet clearing of someone’s throat. Finally, another knock came and soon followed the familiar voice of Mash Kyrielight.

“Uhm, Miss Yuko? It’s Mash...oh, Mash Kyrielight. I’ve come because...oh, I decided to come because I wanted to discuss upcoming events... Ah,I’m coming in, if that’s alright.”

The door opened, and the pseudo-servant stepped inside with a quiet ‘sorry for the intrusion’.

She looked as she always did, with formal uniform and spectacles- short hair and almost sickly constituion. Mash could already feel the presence of another Servant in the room in spirit form- likely Yuko’s contracted and ever loyal Cu Chulainn Alter watching over the situation- Even so, she stood proud and firm as she eyed up the master candidate. 

“Ahem, ahem.” She clears her throat, before shaking off the nerves that come with being eyed up like a prey animal from an invisible threat. “How are you feeling? I trust you’ve been resting plenty...” She trails off, glancing around the room awkwardly, having heard fully of reports of other staff members ushering Yuko back to her room to rest. 

It was...sad to see her like this. It’s not as if Yuko and Mash were ever particularly close. No, not at all- but she still held heavy respect for Yuko- in her capabilities, in her accomplishments and successes, but most importantly in her character. To Mash- Yuko was someone to be admired, who found her own road to walk and walked it with conviction- deciding to do what ‘felt right’ to her and no one else.

I just learned about a twitter post from a really really old TV show on a governmental TV station during pride month. Can't stop being mad at people again.

But like first of all, human rights are not a political opinion. It's literally the first two articles of our constituion.

Dear Sylwie, no one is trying to normalise pedophilia. Being a pedo doesn't make you gay and being gay doesn't make you a pedo. None of us thinks pedophilia should be treated the same way as homosexuality. Studies have shown, that there's more male pedophiles than female ones, but it is unclear which sex the primary victim of pedophiles is. However, the general trend says that girls are more often the victim of sexual violence. I mention this, because a lot of sexual violence against children is not perpetuated by pedos but instead people who simply seek the easist victim, which unfortunately, are children. So while I'd usually say correlation =/= causation, I can't even say there's a correlation here. Which you know, makes sense. Being a horrible human being has nothing to do with your sexual orientation. Being a horrible person is not exclusive to one gender/sex/race/religion or whatever. Teaching children about gay and trans people is not fucking sexualising children. Please, someone teach conservatives on twitter what sexualising children means. Please, please teach them that when they say "they sexualise our children" they're claiming we somehow see children as sexually desirable people, objectifying them if you will. Literally not a single person who wants to teach children "Some men love other men and some women love other women" or "Some boys really don't like being boys and choose to grow up as a girl" or even just "some boys want to wear dresses and some girls like to play with "boy's toys" " is sexualising a child. No one attributes children with sexuality. I'm gonna make a huge assumption here, but I highly doubt that people who are pro "teach kids about queer things" are asking "teach children how two adult men have anal sex and how docking works.".

I'd argue teaching kids more than that or more than the bees and the birds is probably a great start too, just so you know, children can learn about and set boundaries and can actually properly express themselves in case something inappropriate happened to them. - But that's a whole different topic and doesn't really have to do with LGBTQI+ spaces.

Fun fact; Die Maus has always been a queer icon. It never had a gender and was shown in very feminine dresses as well as masculine swimming trunks and similar things when the situation called for it. <3

My Legal Battle with my Family and their Co-horts / Co-conspirators (138):

Today I filed another lawsuit in federal court against my family and their “co-horts” for the multiplicity of crimes and torts they have committed against me.  This specific lawsuit falls under 42 U.S.C. 1332 Diversity Jurisdiction.  I will in the next couple of weeks be filing a second lawsuit in federal court against my family and their “co-horts” for conspiracy to deprive me of my civil right(s).  Specifically that lawsuit will fall under 42 U.S.C. 1985 for conspiracy to deprive me of my 1st Constitutional Amended Right, which most people most commonly only associate the first amedment to the Constituion of the USA to be “Right to Free-Speech.”  While this is part of the 1st amendment, the other part of it is the “Right to Petition the Government for a Redress of Grievances.”  This simply means my right to file a lawsuit.  Since my family and their “co-horts” have incessantly deprived me of my right to file lawsuits via a multitude of methods, I must fight for my right(s) and to recover what has been taken from me.  I stand up, not just for myself, but for all those that either cannot stand up for themselves or that do not know they need someone to stand up for them.

Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision of the US Supreme Court made January 22 of 1973 that cemented abortion as a right in the Constituion of the United States. The case involved “Jane Roe”, a fictional name used to protect the identity of Norma McCorvey, and Henry Wade, the district attorney of Dallas county, Texas. Roe v. Wade took into consideration the health and safety of the individual carrying the child, instead of only caring for the fetus’s life, and allowed abortion as a constitutional right in all fifty states.

The 19th amendment was an amendment to the US constitution that granted women the right to vote. Congress passed the amendment on June 4th of 1919, and it was later ratified on August 18th of 1920. Despite being passed in the early 1900s, women’s suffrage began in the 1800s. Women organized and petitioned for the right to vote for many decades. Due to this, few early supporters lived to see the victory in 1920. 

US Congressperson Lauren Boebert recently showed her ignorance during a debate when she was asked whether she would repeal the 19th amendment by asking the moderator if the amendment was “related to abortion”.

I decided to choose a TikTok from Olivia from July 30th. In this video she mentions hitting the goal of 2 million dollars for abortion funds. I really enjoy how she states that regardless of your wealth or power, anyone is capable of making a difference. It may not seem like that nowadays, but there are people all around the US who make an impact every single day, just like she has with the abortion fund. She also mentions that despite Texas seeming mostly conservative, there are millions across Texas fighting for change every day, just as she is. 

It does inspire me, because it reminds me that it is possible for anyone to make a difference in this country. It may be hard, in some cases even harder for others, but with dedication and work it can be done. It also reminds me that there are so many people around the US who are fighting for the same things as you, and they are all willing to help and work together.

The nickname of #RapeyMcforehead has been attributed to United States Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida’s 1st congressional district. The reasoning for the nickname is due to federal sex trafficking investigations involving a 17 year old girl, payment, and crossing state lines which took place back in 2017. There is another investigation into a 2018 Bahamas trip with Jason Pirozollo, a hand surgeon and donor to Matt Gaetz, where escort services were allegedly paid for. The Mcforehead portion comes from Gaetz having an abnormally large forehead. 

Personally from what I’ve read about the recent cases, and those who have testified and plead guilty, I believe the nickname is justified. While Gaetz has not been charged with anything so far, it seems that it is only a matter of time, since there seems to be sufficient evidence that crimes have indeed been committed.

The restrictive abortion rights taking hold in many states across the US are beyond horrendous. The lack of care for the health of those who can become pregnant shows the true disgusting nature of religious conservatives across the country. The majority of abortions are due to complications and are needed to save the lives of those who are pregnant.

I personally believe that this will backfire for conservatives in the 2022 mid-term elections as there has been an immense surge in women registering to vote. A NY Times article from late August of this year even mentioned that more than 70 percent of newly registered voters in Kansas were women. They also mentioned that “on average in the month after Dobbs, 55 percent of newly registered voters were women”. On top, recent polls show that a good 60% of Americans say that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

Texas has by far been one of the most restrictive states after the ruling. In Texas, abortion was all but completely banned, except in a few cases where the mothers life is at risk since 2021. State Medicaid, and private health insurance, were not allowed to cover abortions, except in rare cases. Parental consent was needed for minor’s seeking abortions. 

Since the trigger law went into effect after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, performing an abortion in Texas is now a felony, with a potential sentence of life in prison and a $100,000 fine.

And all this in a state, where all the experts say, that support systems for low-income mothers and children were already insufficient before the trigger law went into effect.
