Hi! I’m about to start uni in October (law)
Can you give me a list of to-dos to mentally and physically prepare for this new journey? Like, things to bring, items to buy, notebooks etc 🥹💘
Tumblr media
Operation Straight-A Student: A Comprehensive Guide to Prepping for a Successful Uni Experience 🎀📚💗✏️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ty for the ask! i'm not a law student, so this is gonna be more general uni advice that i hope can apply for you. best of luck in your journey, you're gonna do amazing things!!
Tumblr media
step no. 1: plan, plan, plan!
Tumblr media
for me, being organized & prepping ahead of time has been so helpful. even if things get a bit hectic or tough, having a routine to fall back on is key. here's how i do it!
google calendar
as soon as i have my class schedule, i input all my class meeting times on google calendar. then, based on whatever free space is left over, i allocate time for schoolwork and studying. here's the schedule i designed for this upcoming term:
Tumblr media
make sure your study/ classwork time accounts for whatever online courses you're taking too. you should also include blocks for work, club meetings, etc. if they're recurring. i have google calendar linked to my phone so i get notifs for each time block.
planner
i recommend having a good planner. whether this is online or physical, depending on your preference, a weekly planner of your own is helpful for staying on top of work & having peace of mind.
the planner i use is the moleskine weekly planner. here is what it looks like inside:
Tumblr media
on the left side i write all the tasks i have on each weekday (similar to the google calendar). on the right side, i list all the tasks i have to complete during that given week - i open the syllabi for all my classes and input whatever hw, assignments, projects, etc. are upcoming. i write them down in a checklist along with the date they're due. then, during my study blocks, i can check this page & decide what to work on!
note-taking & classwork
you should also have supplies for note-taking. some ppl prefer to take digital notes, so this means using your laptop or a tablet & stylus. personally, i like to take handwritten notes, so i bring loose-leaf lined paper & pencils to my lectures. i write the class name & date as the header for each page. when i'm done taking notes, i write the key topics in the top left-hand corner of the pager (in "no-man's land") so i can easily find the notes on specific topics when i'm flipping through them.
in terms of classwork, i recommend having a folder for each of your classes where you can store notes, assignments, tests, etc. i know some people use one big binder for all classes, but if you have a separate folder for each, you don't have to carry them all around on days when you only have two or three classes. i like the brand five star bc the folders are very durable and i've had the same ones all throughout uni!
for me, i've never been a huge notebook person b/c i like to keep my subjects separate so i rarely fill up an entire notebook. you can buy one to start with, and see once school starts if you think you need more!
other supplies
in terms of supplies, i'm honestly pretty minimalistic. the necessities for me are my planner, a folder & loose-leaf paper, and a pencil pouch with plenty of pens & pencils. i also bring my laptop & charger with me to school bc i use that for my online classes.
i do enjoy having cute supplies! i have a cute pink pencil pouch, glittery mechanical pencils, and fun pens. i also put stickers all over my laptop to give it a personal touch. i did a bit of embroidery on my backpack as well. you don't need to spend tons of money on aesthetic supplies, especially if it's something you won't have for long. but, finding simple ways to add a personal touch to your items can be fun & motivating!
Tumblr media
step no. 2: make an action plan
Tumblr media
i feel like it's easy to tell yourself you wanna do certain things or be a certain person during school. for example, i always want to be super studious, outgoing, & involved, but i used to struggle sm to actually do that. instead of only thinking of how you want to be, create actual steps/ tasks for yourself. here are my action items for inspo:
sit in the front row of every class - this can be daunting, but in my uni experience, wherever you sit in the first week becomes your (un)official assigned seat. get to class early, take a deep breath, and sit yourself down at the front! you'll be forcing yourself to stay at the front, but i promise it's fine! i really prefer this b/c if you & the prof get to class early you can chat a bit. also, when i wanna participate, i can speak at my regular volume & they'll hear me (rather than if i'm in the back row and had to scream). if nothing else, you'll become a familiar face!
attend office hours for each class at least once - i sometimes felt nervous/ anxious to go to office hours and talk to the professors & ta. but when you do it once, you realize they truly just want to help! getting to know the ppl who grade your assignments can be super useful. they might give you advice or info you don't get in lectures. plus, they are super knowledgeable!
raise your hand once per week - this forces you to be engaged with the content. i used to have such horrible social anxiety & the thought of speaking up in class & getting an answer wrong was my worst nightmare. and when i set this rule & began forcing myself to participate, i did make mistakes. but guess what... everyone moves on immediately. you might feel like the world is ending. it haunted me for weeks after 😢 but no one else cares! in the end, ppl will only remember that you were confident enough to raise your hand & speak up, not what you said. pls don't let your education suffer just b/c you're afraid some classmates might judge you! if raising your hand to answer problems is too daunting, start with asking clarifying questions & slowly build up to whatever you're able to do.
start a conversation with a classmate - having classmates that you're friendly with is so important. if you miss a lecture, need help on a concept, etc. you'll have someone you can turn to. and that's the least of it - you can end up making long-lasting friends! yes, it's scary to talk to a stranger. so, force yourself to do it as early as possible in the semester. an easy one - if you see someone sitting by an empty seat, ask if that seat is taken. if not, yay! it's go time 😊 sit by them and find something else to talk about - give them a (genuine & non-creepy) compliment, ask them if they've seen the syllabus, ask if they know the prof, etc. just something to get the convo started!! figure out their name, major, and other stuff too. once you've talked with them long enough to feel like you're getting along (whether that's after one class or multiple) ask for their number/ discord/ whatever so you can keep in touch! if they share your major, you should keep in contact with them b/c you might have other classes together in the future. but, again, in the best-case scenario, you have a new friend!
wear a cute outfit once per week - sometimes i would get a bit embarrassed or self-conscious to dress up for class. i forced myself to do it once per week, starting the first week of class, to set a precedent for myself. slowly i eased my way into wearing cute, fun outfits every day! no one is judging you as much as you are judging yourself, so have fun & be true to you.
Tumblr media
step no. 3: study smarter, not harder
Tumblr media
attending class is one thing, but you've got to put in the effort to study if you truly want to succeed. but, not all study methods will work for every single person. figure out how to study so you don't waste time with methods that don't work for you.
determine your learning style(s)
there are a few widely accepted learning styles. you've probably tried all of them throughout your time at school, so think back on which learning experiences have been most and least successful for you. then, connect them back to these learning styles to figure out ways you can most effectively study.
visual:  if you learn by seeing info visually, such as with maps, graphs, diagrams, charts, etc.
auditory: if you learn by getting info in auditory form, aka when it's heard or spoken
kinesthetic: aka hands-on, if you learn by doing & applying
reading/writing: if you learn info best when it’s in words, aka by writing it down or reading it
you might find that multiple of these learning styles are effective for you, maybe there's one that sticks out as the most similar to your style of learning, or maybe one that just doesn't work for you. now, you don't need to assign yourself one and forego the rest, but you can adjust the time you spend on various study methods based on how well they work for you.
for me, i've realized over time that i am NOT a reading learner. in high school i would diligently read all the textbook assignments, spending hours getting through the chapters, only to retain none of it & do poorly on assignments & tests.
on the other hand, i respond really well to kinesthetic learning - when applying concepts hands-on, such as with practice problems, i have a much better understanding of concepts & retention.
fast forward to college - i spend very little time on assigned readings. in fact, sometimes i skip them all together 🫢 b/c if i spend an hour reading the textbook but retain none of it, that's an hour wasted. especially if the content from the textbook is going to line up with the lecture, i'm much better off paying attention & taking good notes in class, and then spending my study time doing practice problems. if i really do need to read the textbook, i have to make it interactive for myself - i answer the questions at the end of the chapter, take notes, quiz myself, etc.
now, my advice here isn't to skip textbook readings!! that's not something i recommend b/c for so many people, it IS effective and helpful! when it comes to studying, play on your strengths. don't try to force yourself to learn in a way that doesn't work for your brain. make modifications & prioritize your learning! here is an awesome guide to different methods that work for the various learning styles.
find your ideal study environment
you can also maximize the effectiveness of your studying based on the environment you're in. if you can decide what factors help or hinder your studying abilities, it will help you decide where you should make your go-to study spot!
at home or in public? sometimes, studying in a public place can be unproductive. it might make you feel more stressed (like the sensation of having your teacher look over your shoulder during a test 🫣) or distracted. for me, studying in public is actually useful b/c i'm less likely to get disctracted. if i'm in my room i might get tempted to open up tumblr or pinterest, but in public i feel like ppl might see me get off topic which deters me LOL. however, studying at home is nice b/c you're in the comfort of your own personal space - you can change into pjs, cuddle your pet, grab a snack, etc. i do a mix of studying in public & at home b/c i feel like they both have their benefits
quiet or noisy? do you study better in a silent environment, or do you like some sound/ white noise? personally, i cannot deal with ANY noise when i'm trying to study, it totally breaks my focus 😭but some people like the ambient/ white noise of a coffee shop
music or silence? similar to the last one, does having music help you stay focused, or distract you? i know ppl will swear by different things - classical music, upbeat music, songs in different languages, etc. again, i personally cannot handle any sounds 😅 but if music keeps you alert, plan accordingly - have earbuds or go to a coffee shop that has a playlist going
nature or indoors? maybe you find it stuffy to be indoors all day & studying out in the open air helps you stay grounded and calm. on the flipside, being exposed to the elements might just make you more distracted. if you like studying outdoors, try public parks with benches, and also see if your campus has outdoor seating areas. some libraries do too. for a happy medium, you can study someplace with large windows/ nice view.
independent or collaborative? do you study better on your own or in groups? you can join a study group or go to office hours to get a sense of studying in a group setting vs. alone. group studying can help hold you accountable, make it more interactive, and keep you focused. that being said, i def prefer studying independently. i like to go at my own pace, and tbh i get easily distracted w/ others and will begin to just chit chat
based on how you answer those questions, you can decide what your ideal study environment is & pick a go-to place! for me, based on my preferences, my most effective study environment going to the library alone or studying in my room.
Tumblr media
that's all for this post! i feel it got very long but i had so many tips to share. there's no "one size fits all" guide to navigating uni life. but i think everyone can benefit from prepping in advance & being mentally prepared. knowing your own strengths + having a plan of attack will guide you in stressful/ uncertain times!
overall, take the time to get to know yourself & figure out how you can be at your very best. apply whichever bits of advice resonate, and ignore anything that's not gonna serve you. this is YOUR journey!
and remember, even with all the planning in the world, things can go unexpectedly. you are more than equipped to deal with whatever life throws your way! when you are faced with unexpected things - pause & think, assess the situation, & determine your best course of action. above all, YOU'VE GOT THIS! 💗

Hi! First of all i wanna thank you for your kindness and resourcefullness to support the tumblr ND community!
And second:
Do yoy have any tips on how to deal with executive dysfunction? Especially when you HAVE to do something increedibly crucial but its a big heavy task that you have no interest in and puts you under a lot of pressure.
Again, thank you! I submitted an ask ages ago and you helped me realize that i have BOTH ADHD AND ASD!
Hi,
I found some lists that I found that might be helpful:
How to Manage Executive Dysfunction Problems:
1. Use a digital calendar to manage your time
2. Keep helpful resources like checklists and templates nearby & visible
3. Break goals down into smaller 5-minute actions
4. Create an organizational system to keep track of important physical items
5. Plan and commit to short breaks between work sessions
6. Color code study materials based on mastery to prioritize review
7. Use habit-building apps to build consistency
8. Reframe deadlines and helpful tools to prioritize responsibilities
9. Practice mindfulness to build presence and attention
10. Pre-plan your next action following a scheduled break
Full article is below:
I found another list:
1. Make a Daily To-Do List
Creating a daily list of tasks and projects can help to improve the challenges of executive function disorder. To-do lists can help you stay motivated, organized, and make progress towards your goals. A daily to-do list is a powerful way to manage impulses that can lead to poor decision-making.
2. Use a Calendar
Create a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule to track important dates and appointments. Update your calendar daily. Try to make recurring appointments at the same time of day.
3. Learn How to Manage Your Time
Break down to-do lists as "urgent," "important," and "non-urgent." This will allow you to budget plenty of time for those long-term projects that are important to you.
4. Take Notes
Take time to write down important dates, reminders, or rules that come up in a designated notebook. Keep it organized. Keep sticky notes in a place that is easily accessible. Take notes related to important calls so that you can keep track of details discussed in meetings and conversations.
5. Use Reminders
Use reminders and alarms to keep you organized and on time for appointments and meetings.
6. Keep It Simple
Reduce the number of activities that you attempt to complete at one time to help you focus and complete the task before moving on to another.
7. Relax and Breathe
Practicing stress management techniques like meditation, yoga, deep breathing can improve symptoms associated with weak executive function skills and can help to reduce executive function anxiety.
8. Stay Organized
If you find yourself losing items frequently or feeling overwhelmed, try decluttering your home or office. Stay organized and keep your area tidy to help you locate items and feel less overwhelmed.
Full article will be below:
I hope this helps. Maybe my followers can give some advice and tips too.
Thanks for the submission. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Day 18: Weekly Review Steps
How I’m setting myself up for success using the weekly review checklist from How to Build a Second Brain
Checklist:
Clear your Email
I went through my email box to look at lingering emails from the week before.
Noted action items, saw that I need to schedule a meeting regarding the information I received in an email.
Logged notes in inbox
Check your calendar
Make note of important dates and deadlines.
Looked at past meetings and saw that I need to follow up
I looked at future meetings and saw that next week I have a mentorship meeting and a meeting I need to lead. I also made notes of what needs to be discussed
I noted that I need to reach out to my manager to see if I should ask if anyone else has something they want to put on the agenda.
Another project I was working on was a task that was due last week, and I noted the next steps.
Clear your desktop
Move documents on my desktop to their appropriate folders.
So the email contained a spreadsheet I reviewed and commented on earlier this week. Today I clarified and noted what needs to be done.
I also added a task to schedule a meeting with leadership so I can get my questions answered.
Moved spreadsheet to the project folder.
Clear your inbox
This was the most time-consuming since it was the first time I did it. It was very insightful to see how I jot down notes and areas where I can improve. I was also able to identify redundant information.
First I went through the tasks and moved them to the appropriate tabs on my OneNote.
Created new tabs for ongoing projects
I noted that I need to reflect on a project I just completed.
Choose your actions for the week
Focusing on wrapping up my completed project
Prepare for my meetings.
Wrap up project B.
Complete and publish articles.
Follow up and schedule a few meetings.
Stay positive and grounded through it all
Completing this reflection helped to ease my mind on things I need to accomplish. It also helped me map out what to focus on and allowed me to wrap up the previous week. Doing the steps above also ensures I fully sweep my digital world and account for all my tasks. I have confidence that I captured everything, and I will be starting the week on the right foot.

Hello friends! I have been thinking for weeks about coming on here and making a "2024 goals" post. Like I did last year. But I'm not sure that I have any big goals, because I'm learning that setting big goals sometimes only sets me up for failure because I am so disappointed in myself if I don't reach them. Recently I've been setting more daily and weekly goals and it has been working well.
As always, I am trying to lose weight.. but taking a drastically different approach this time around. I posted maybe 2 months ago on here asking if anyone listened to health/weight loss podcasts because I had found one that I enjoyed and wanted to explore more. I did get a couple suggestions and plan on checking them out. I was so enamored with the one I had been listening to, Real Life Weight Loss, by Corey Little, that it was all I listened to for weeks and his beliefs, advice, and outlook really spoke to me. I ended up doing a virtual class/seminar hosted by him and loved that as well. Corey does personal weight loss/fitness coaching as well as runs a coaching group that follows the same program as his personal clients. It has a private Facebook group where clients can check in and seek help, guided by himself and a couple other coaches. After listening to his podcast for weeks and starting to see changes in myself and my habits (and losing about 12 pounds!), I joined his program.
I have been in the program for 5.5 weeks now, and I have lost 8 more pounds! They focus on changing the brain and making small, simple changes that progress as you move through the program. It is self-guided so you go at your own pace. They make it so easy that you don't even feel like you're putting in any work. The first few action items are to drink 2-3 liters of water daily, eliminate (or decrease) liquid calories, incorporate activity into your life, and take omega-3s daily. Within the first 7 or 8 lessons, he does go over his version of the recommended food groups to include in your diet, but there is absolutely no restrictions on anything. He doesn't tell us we have to track everything we eat. He doesn't tell us we can't eat carbs or fats or dairy, etc. The coaches just explain what is recommended for their program and help us learn to make better choices, as well as help us learn why we make "bad" choices when we do.
The "change your brain" aspect has been phenomenal. He emphasizes avoiding perfectionism and stopping the "bully in your brain", or negative self-talk, from convincing you that you're doing something wrong or that what you are doing will never work. He talks about the different kind of weight loss personalities there are. It's just amazing to be in a program that focuses on the mental stuff too ❤️
Here is an example of my weekly goals checklist
Tumblr media
I love the freedom this program allows. I'm so glad I found the podcast because I think this is changing my life 😊

The Ultimate Guide to Starting A Podcast [Checklist]
Part 1 l Part 2 l Part 3 l Part 4 l Part 5 l Part 6 l Part 7 l Part 8 l Part 9 l Part 10
The eleventh article Sydney gave me is an actionable list. The writer- Lestraundra Alfred- said she started a podcast in ten days by following it.
Determine your niche.
I know. Some of you who have been reading all the posts in this series are probably groaning right now at the repetition. I admit, as I was reading through them I was starting to almost be able to say the words in my head before I read them, like how I can quote movies I've seen a bunch of times.
But this is important- I mentioned before that it's better to be in the top ten of a smaller niche than top twenty of a broader one. But it's more than that- sites like spotify and apple podcasts use the niches you provide to categorize your show, and that categorization brings your podcast to those who are actually looking for similar things.
The article lists popular categories- comedy, news, TV shows and movies, and sports among them- so you can find inspiration in them and narrow your focus.
2. Identify your ideal listener
The article talks about going super specific with your listener avatar- age, job, education, income, other interests, hobbies, and where they live. This will let you think about what your perfect listener will think about your ideas and help you refine them.
3. Name your podcast and make a launch date
For the name, make sure you look it up a few times with variations so you don't accidentally use the same name as some other brand.
For the launch date, make sure to give yourself some time to do your preparations and recording, but not too much time that it's just procrastinating.
4. Format and schedule
There's a variety of formats, each with their own pros and cons. Interviews, co-hosts, and solo shows are just three.
The most common frequencies of publishing according to this article are weekly, bi-weekly (which I assume in this case means once every two weeks, not twice a week), and monthly. But the article also says consistency is key- don't do weekly for three weeks, and then not upload for two months.
5. Podcast host
Again, this is necessary because of internet jargon. An RSS feed is needed to upload to the actual directories where people can listen. The article lists a few via links which- as you all can probably guess by now- I won't add because I want to preserve their commissions. Plus, you'll probably want to read the article in its entirety to get all the details because I'm glossing over them to keep the big picture in sight.
6. Artwork
This article is linked, and it has a more in-depth guide on how to make artwork with examples. But this article recommends just browsing through your podcast listening site of choice and just looking at artwork, thinking about how yours will fit in.
7. Equipment
This article goes into the topic more in-depth, with specifics about what they personally recommend, but really a microphone, a computer, headphones, and recording and editing software are all you really need.
8. Create a trailer
Ah, finally, I can hear some of you think. A new step.
A trailer gives a new listener a chance to find out what your podcast is all about. So be sure to make it engaging and interesting.
9. Submit to directories
You'll be able to do this through your hosting site.
10. Start with three episodes
Another new step, yay! Not only does this give more content for listeners to really see if your podcast is a good fit for them, but it'll let your podcast get listens and other statistics more quickly. That means that the directory will read that and go 'oh! People really like this show. Let me move it to the front so more people can like it.' Your trailer shouldn't count in those three episodes.
11. Show notes
Yet another new step! Hooray! Show notes are basically really short blog posts that are under each episode and tailored to that specific episode. They're a good place for SEO (search engine optimization), and a way for avid listeners to follow the podcast on different sites, like your social media.
12. Get social media handles
Speaking of social media, you'll want these before you launch. This way you have them and can actually use them to promote yourself and the podcast. Domain names are included in this step.
13. Upload and schedule your three episodes
Once everything is edited and done, it's time to stick to your launch date you chose in step three and schedule through your hosting site to launch.
14. Market and celebrate
Now it's time to get the word out. You've worked so hard on this project, congratulations! An aside from me is to actually take time to celebrate. Don't rush right into more work, take the time to soak in your accomplishment, because it is an accomplishment.

Hi there,,,,I've been to FF 17 times since 1999 and somethings are pretty consistent. Singles are welcome along with the 50-70,000+ people that come to the island of Key West and much of the action is on both sides of Duval Street. Every event is clearly advertized and many unofficial parties happen in all the bars and venuesd and night. Accommodations are pricey and only go up. I use Susie Rodnan for my room (www.keywestkey.com) as she lives there and knows the island rooms so well. Be sure to tell her Ann (TheTravelSlut or UltimateCougar) referred you. Keep your eyes and ears open for private parties that are often spontaneous in the various events and venues. And heed what was said above about making contacts before you go. Annie
UPDATED: 2023 TIPS FOR 1ST TIMERS TO FANTASY FEST (or anyone else) Hello and get ready to enter the world of Fantasy Fest in Key West, Florida which I have often referred to as "Mardi Gras on Steroids".
You may want to consider some of these ideas before you go as either a FF veteran or 1st timer to FF.
In addition, while in Key West, learn about the nightly meets by various groups (including the Krewe de Krazy Life group @ Capt. Tony's Saloon nightly) and learn where the best parties are for each night as many are announced only on the day of the party. Check out www.krazykrewe.com which includes access to a photo gallery, weekly Monday & Thursday night online chatrooms as FF approaches, nightly meetings @ Capt. Tony's, and even a newsletter). The Krewe de Krazy Life is THE MOST AWESOME & VETERAN GROUP OF FF.
My Tips for First Time Fantasy Fest attendees:
You are in for a treat both for the Fantasy Fest event itself and for Key West which is a great, eclectic island-city in and of itself. While I've only been 17 times to Fantasy Fest since 1999 (and about 30 times to Key West), I have learned a few things through personal experience or from the experience of others (in no particular order):
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Key West is a walking town especially on and around Duval Street so comfortable shoes or sandals are a must. Don't walk downtown in barefeet as the streets are likely to have either debris or glass, etc. that could cut your feet. Also, in the heat, both streets and sidewalks heat up tremendously and you don't want to either burn your feet or have to do an emergency purchase of shoes/sandals from a downtown vendor unless absolutely necessary. Consider having a lightweight/foldable rain poncho for those occasional showers to protect bodypaint or costumes.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Essentials (especially if you plan do to a "Duval Crawl" include: Aleve/Tylenol, antacids, Pepto-Bismol, and or special hangover OTC meds. Also have available at your hotel/B and B some insect repellent, sunscreen, and aloe vera gel or know where the nearest source of these items can be found (Walgreens on Duval is a great source for just about anything from souvenirs to sundries). And be sure to check out my extensive FF travel item checklist also in this site.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: If you plan to do the beaches, bring a blanket and or chair and some sort of strong UV sun protection. The sun is brutal on skin not normally exposed to this heat and UV's at this latitude. A beach or gear bag works also for carrying around Key West even at night while in costume.
Transportation: During high season or any major event like FF parking can be almost non-existent near Duval Street even if you have a reservation at your Bed and Breakfast, motel/hotel. Don't even think about parking in a resident's zone unless you have specific permission or blocking a driveway/access point as the fine and/or tow bills will be huge. There are parking garages, meters and some free side-street parking but again, Key West parking during Fantasy Fest will be both expensive and extremely limited when Key West's island population swells from 26,000+ to well over 50,000+.
Be cautious driving on the one-way streets and the narrow streets where the Conch Train operates. Watch out for bicycles, pedal cabs, small (silent) electric vehicles, mopeds and of course, pedestrians==tourists & FantasyFesters. Open drinking and walking occurs 24/7 so be careful in all regards with driving and/or walking. Expect detours at times also. Key West, while small and compact in size, has some streets that are both very narrow and have obscured sidewalks/driveways so watch your step--especially at night. Some walkways are not level, some are obstructed, or even have debris of some type. Be extremely careful driving as pedestrians (sometimes intoxicated and/or jaywalking) will walk right out in front of you from previously hidden or obscured areas. Be wary on the streets for bicyclists and people riding scooters/mopeds that may not be careful or skilled in operating them. Finally, it is easy to be distracted while looking at the people and sites of Key West so concentrate on both your driving and your walking. Key West's "Conch Train" & Shuttle Bus operates on both main and side streets so be sure to give it leeway and right of way as it is a very large and long train. Driving into Key West's "new town" at the north end of the island there can be a culture shock after driving the previous 50 miles or so. Key West is modern and developed and always seems to have ongoing renovations/construction. Be cautious of traffic controls, traffic workers, and slow-downs. Don't be in a hurry. Remember, you are on "Island Time" now and the 25,000+ full time residents will appreciate patience as will your additional fellow 50,000+ Fantasy Fest revelers. Traveling along Highway US 1 (aka North Roosevelt Blvd. and at mid-town, Truman Avenue), you will start to see the signs of the Fantasy Fest celebration as many people decorate their homes and businesses in the colors or theme of the event.
2023's theme is “Uniforms and Unicorns" and is the 44th Anniversary of Fantasy Fest and this year runs from Friday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 29. Key West during Fantasy Fest is definitely not for the timid or shy and small children should not be downtown after dark (or at all if possible). Bodypaint, nudity and skimpy, sexy/see through clothing rules day and night and is very prevalent especially in the Fantasy Zone on Duval Street! Be aware. New rules for 2022 may be extended (despite lack of enforcement in 2022) so watch for any changes that affect nudity, costumes and events. Nightly confirmed & cancelled costume themes & events--both official and unofficial--can be found on the main Fantasy Fest website at: www.fantasyfest.com and krazykrewe.com
You really should consider costumes for every night for the most interactions and best-fun participation--and expect to be photographed/videotaped in all public areas. If you are camera shy for any reason (work, kids, etc), then wear a mask of some type or some costume disguise. And do get bodypainted for a fun time! I highly recommend Pashur House of Pashur the Bodypainter fame who is not only creative and super-talented but the creator of many official FF posters & advertisements, a long time member of the Krewe de Krazy Life group, and a fun and friendly guy & awesome friend. www.canvasalive.com and tell him Ann TheTravelSlut/Ann TheUltimateCougar referred you but book early.
Refer to the official FF events, activities, & party options here: www.fantasyfest.com/schedule/ Other unofficial events, parties and activities occur regularly around Key West and some are even spontaneous so ask veteran Fantasyfesters for the latest updates on happenings you might enjoy. NOTE: I am usually only at Fantasy Fest from noon on the 1st Saturday until 5 pm on Wednesday.
Some of my favorite parties with the Krewe de Krazy Life that I have experienced since 1999 with nightly gatherings from 7 pm or so at Capt. Tony's Saloon on Greene St. near Duval include: 1st SATURDAY NIGHT-- Little Black Dress Night at Capt. Tony's Saloon. Anything goes but keep it PG on the streets as there are still many tourists and residents prepping for FF and unaware of the quasi-clothing-optional nature of FF. Save the risque fun for the bars and clubs and use common sense to cover up on the street especially while walking from and to your accommodations. SUNDAY NIGHT--Zombie Night (formerly Pirate Night) with the earlybirds of Fantasy Fest getting warmed up at various venues around town and Capt. Tony's has been the place to be the past few years to the point that police have shut down Greene Street near Duval Street to accommodate the overflow. MONDAY NIGHT-- Fetish Night features all those in leather, vinyl, rubber and all types of Fetish and Fantasy wear up to and including bodypaint (which is acceptable any night). It's not uncommon to see 100's (if not 1,000's) of people dressed in leather or latex or some variation for this various parties. Many others parties exist in non-sanctioned venues. Again, Capt. Tony's has a special celebration in their Dungeon side room called Capt. Tony's Rubber Fetish Ball.
Also, MONDAY is Leather and Fetish costume theme night@ at First Flight (formerly Kelly's) Kinky Karnival. I've attended this leather-fetish party @ Kelly's for many years and this is definitely NOT the place for anyone shy, timid or shocked easily as you will see (or experience) just about everything and anything. Plan to be amazed at what you see, hear or even experience on the streets, in the bars and at the private parties. The costumes and actions of the crowds are often awesome and amazing. Some of the photos in my Flickr Group and some of my YouTube videos only reveal a small aspect of FF happenings.. TUESDAY NIGHT--features the Plaid Party @ Capt. Tony's Saloon and in addition to the other parties throughout Key West. Crowded parties are the norm especially as the week goes on. Be courteous and patient with everything and everyone WEDNESDAY -SUNDAY---refer to both the official FF website events for the latest info as well as the Krewe de Krazy Life website & chat for their concurrent events All the while these official events are occurring, many bars and saloons feature their own party theme and of course, thousands of people flock into the streets and sidewalks of Duval where people-watching takes on a new level. Again, Duval Street becomes an event in itself with thousands of people costumed and as many taking photos or just people watching and cruise ship passengers that happen to be in port during the week sure get an eyeful. The festival has many events that are jam packed (some require tickets or cover charges to access) with costumed people, parties and activities The drive or the flight back home is always a challenge. Between hangovers, crowds, and general dismay about returning to reality, leaving Key West and Fantasy Fest can be tough except for the knowledge that the next Fantasy Fest is less than 360 days away!
Now, for some important DO's AND DON'T's of Fantasy Fest:
Don't wear a mask you can't drink in or see out of. Don't choose a costume you can't use the bathroom in. Don't wear shoes you can't walk in. Walking on streets & sidewalks can be a challenge for some. Do dress sexier than you thought you might initially (but no total nudity in public and if walking from residential areas, consider a cover-up for modesty purposes). Do make sure you have a place to stay before you get too drunk and find yourself under a tree or on a sidewalk. Do realize that the shape or size of your breasts/penis will not change with spray paint (but get body painted!). Don't wear your thong with your leg in the wrong hole. Do trim your private areas within the limits of your costume ...please. Do donate your leftover items to locals who want to enjoy Fantasy Fest as much as the rest of us but often just make room for us. Don't flash the cops. Not cool, not legal. Don't ask the cops to flash you. REALLY not cool. Do understand that just because you are near-naked doesn't mean that others will accept your choice of costume. Don't go out carrying valuable items that you are likely to lose if/when you get drunk--- such as a purse wallet, expensive jewelry or your spouse. Do wrap your money in plastic or a ziplock first if you have nothing to carry it in but your bikini bottoms or sweaty shorts. No one wants to handle sweaty-wet cash. Do know that unoccupied bathrooms will be scarce all week Don't verbally abuse anyone---ever!---- Everyone is there to have a good, laid-back time. Don't be in a hurry---remember you are on (overcrowded) island time Don't step in front of moving parade floats to pick up candy or beads. If you DO take pictures, be polite, patient, and asking 1st if it is OK to take a photo will usually result in a yes answer and you will get a nicer, posed shot or two. Also, have your camera ready to shoot FIRST before you ask. Do exercise some tact and courtesy with the folks working in the bars and cafes. They may be there working their days off for your enjoyment. Drinks take time to create and be served as do meals. Don't tip in beads - service workers don't want or need beads--- tip with cash always---please. Don't ask the female servers to show you their boobs--there are thousands of women on Duval Street dying to show you all that they've got. Don't try to touch, kiss, etc service workers or Fantasy Fest workers or other costumed Fantasyfesters...ever. Unwanted, unexpected touching will create major problems for you. Do carry some info or business card of your hotel/B and B address so someone can help get you home if you need help late at night should you be too intoxicated (over-served). Don't be afraid to dress up. Have an outrageously fun time and tip BIG!.

A note on nudity at Fantasy Fest and in Key West from a good friend, FF veteran of many years and a keen Key West observer and historian.
“Nudity is expressly forbidden on the street all the time, as are exposed genitals. KW ordinances say cover must be "opaque" (not sheer) and body paint as a breast cover is allowed in the fantasy zone only during "Fantasy Fest Week" which the KW police have been told by the city to interpret as starting at Midnight Sunday/Monday, and have done so for the past several years. Since the zone is specifically mentioned in the ordinance in conjunction with "Fantasy Fest Week", the zone isn't just the last two days (much as they might like you to think it is). However the "zone" boundary is never defined legally and the actual duration of the "week" has been left vague - it seems to extend for most of the night after the Saturday parade, but not necessarily into Sunday day (a short week LOL).”
That said ... interpretation of these statutes seems to depend on the political environment each year, the individual LEO (law enforcement officer) and the time and place (some events are family oriented) so always have a cover-up handy. Some KW LEOs seem more motivated to be "clothes police" than others. New LEOs from other agencies are imported to supplement the KW officers and Monroe County sheriffs as the week goes on and may have different perspectives so can be very zealous at first, but gradually get jaded. Bar owners have been instructed (and threatened) by a politically motivated FF Committee to self enforce an arbitrary interpretation of the rules that seems to change each year. Most realize this is untenable and not in their best financial interest. It all adds up to a lot of confusion.
Bottom line is that LEO's really don't want to the waste time and paperwork to bust you for nudity unless you are having actual sex in the street. But if they see nudity, they are instructed to correct it and move on. LEOs in KW during FF are only likely to arrest you if you become belligerent, combative or uncooperative and resist their instructions. Even then they go out of their way to exert control with aggressive warnings which reserves manpower for arresting the real troublemakers, rather than reducing their presence on the street by taking the time out to process minor offenses. They concentrate on crowd control, so don't draw a crowd of paparazzi taking pictures of your cleverly costumed nakedness. If your costumes are revealing then learn where the LEOs hang out and avoid them (hint street corners and alleys especially in the 200 and 300 block of Duval). There are a lot less LEOs on the street at the beginning of the week and most are local KW or Monroe County. You may be challenged and told to cover up if you have minimal breast or genital coverings of any kind (or they think you do). These challenges are often arbitrary, confrontational and unpleasant by design to project authority and scare you into compliance. Don't bother to debate or protest .. no matter how unfair you think it is, its unlikely he/she will back down and risk losing control .. just be submissive and do what the LEO tells you, then move on. Don't let them get into your head and spoil your fun. When you are out of their sight, do what you like. Bob & Fran, The Holy HellRaisers
In the meantime, take care, travel safe and have safe fun!

Note
Hi! :) I was wondering if you have any info on autistic, ADHD, and/or AuDHD people adapting to change... specifically, I just watched a video from an autistic person who said that autistics can't help but meltdown when their fav. products get discontinued. I know some people commented that they learned to adapt a little more over time, but lots of autistic people agreed about that. I wonder if AuDHD people like the routine/same products, but when forced to change, they might be anxious, but still not mind trying out different things?
Hi there,
I found an article giving some tips on how to help with transitioning
Big Transitions
1. Have a Transition Day
After a vacation, schedule a transition day before going back to work. Use this day to ease yourself back into your normal life. Unpack, buy groceries, do your laundry, nap, etc.
If you are currently used to flying home at 10pm and getting up for work at 7am the next day, spending one of your vacation days as a transition day might feel like a ‘wasted’ day. However, it will help you feel organized and ahead of the game.
2. Use Checklists
Write checklists and use them! They guide you through all the actions you need to do without having to think too much. Have a ‘going on holiday‘ checklist and a ‘back from holiday’ checklist. On your last day at work, write a list of items you are working on. When you return, that list will allow you to dive right back in, rather than needing a day or 2 to figure everything out.
Small Transitions
3. Plan Your Day
Every evening, plan the next day. Then first thing in the morning look at your plan. This mentally prepares you for the events of the day and minimizes surprises.
4. Prepare
Before starting a task, gather everything you will need. This is helpful for 2 reasons:
Physically because you have everything at hand and don’t have to keep hunting for items,
Mentally because in order to prepare you have to think about the task and visualize the steps etc. This primes your brain for the task ahead and is the perfect transitional activity.
5. Buffer Time
Schedule at least 15 minutes in between appointments or activities. This gives you the chance to reflect on what you have just done and mentally prepare for the next task.
6. Structure
Create structures and routines so your body get used to doing things at certain times. For example, you can have a morning and a bedtime routine and do your weekly groceries at the same time. You might resist it at first; however, these habits make transitions almost effortless.
7. Countdown
Abruptly stopping an activity is difficult and jarring. Having a countdown is helpful as it gives you advanced warning that it’s time to wind down.
Set a timer to let you know when you have 15 minutes left then 5, and then zero.
If you have a tendency to hyperfocus, you might not hear the timer, which is where plan B comes in! Use the loudest alarm you have and put it in a place where you will have to physically get up to switch it off. Once you are up, it will be easier to move on to your next task.
8. Train the People in Your Life
Train the people in your life not to interrupt you. It is easier than it might seem.
Tell your family or co-workers that you are going to be working on X for the next 3 hours. Ask them if there is anything they need to tell you before you start. Then tell them what time you will be available again.
9. Getting into Gear Ritual
Sitting down to work on a task that involves focus and concentration can be the hardest thing for a person living with ADHD. It can cause a lot of resistance and procrastination.
The full article will be below if you want to read more
I hope this helps some. Thank you for the inbox. I hope you have a wonderful day/night. ♥️

Home Maintenance Made Simple - Strategies for a Well-Maintained Residence
Tumblr media
Owning a home comes with its joys and responsibilities, one of the most crucial being maintenance. However, home maintenance doesn't have to be daunting or complicated. With the right strategies in place, you can keep your residence in optimal condition without added stress or hassle. In this guide, we'll explore effective strategies for simplifying home maintenance, ensuring your home remains a haven of comfort and functionality and for more details click here AC repair services.
Streamline Your Approach
Start by creating a comprehensive checklist of all the maintenance tasks your home requires. Categorize them by frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, annually) and prioritize accordingly. This structured approach ensures you tackle each task at the right time without feeling overwhelmed.
Divide and Conquer
Break down larger maintenance projects into smaller, manageable tasks. Allocate specific time slots each week or month to address these tasks systematically. By spreading out the workload, you prevent burnout and maintain consistency in your maintenance efforts.
Embrace Technology
Take advantage of modern technology to simplify your home maintenance routine. Use smartphone apps to create maintenance schedules, set reminders, and track completed tasks. Invest in smart home devices that automate certain tasks, such as programmable thermostats or leak detection systems, making maintenance more efficient.
Delegate Responsibilities
If you live with family members or housemates, involve them in the maintenance process. Assign specific tasks to each person based on their skills and preferences. Sharing the responsibility not only lightens the workload but also fosters a sense of shared ownership and accountability.
Regular Inspections
Perform regular inspections of your home to catch issues before they escalate. Schedule quarterly walkthroughs to check for signs of wear, damage, or potential hazards. Addressing problems early saves time and money by preventing costly repairs later on.
Stay Proactive
Don't wait for problems to arise before taking action. Stay proactive by implementing preventative maintenance measures. Schedule routine service appointments for your HVAC system, inspect your roof and gutters regularly, and seal cracks or gaps to prevent water intrusion. By staying ahead of potential issues, you minimize the likelihood of major repairs down the line.
Educate Yourself
Take the time to educate yourself about basic home maintenance tasks. Familiarize yourself with how your home's systems work and learn how to perform simple repairs. There are countless resources available online, from DIY tutorials to home maintenance guides, that can help you become more self-sufficient in caring for your home.
Build a Network
Establish relationships with trusted professionals in your area, such as plumbers, electricians, and contractors. Having a reliable network of experts to call upon when needed gives you peace of mind knowing you have support in case of emergencies or more complex repairs.
Celebrate Progress
Finally, don't forget to celebrate your progress and accomplishments along the way. Maintaining a home is no small feat, and every completed task brings you one step closer to a well-maintained residence. Take pride in your efforts and the care you put into preserving your home for yourself and your loved ones.
Conclusion
Home maintenance doesn't have to be a daunting chore. By implementing these simple strategies, you can streamline your approach, stay proactive, and ensure your residence remains a comfortable and well-maintained haven for years to come. Remember, consistency is key, so make maintenance a regular part of your routine, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your home is in excellent condition.

Unveiling the Spirited World of Jack Russell Terriers: A Guide to Their Clever and Energetic Nature
Introduction to the Jack Russell Terrier Dog Breed
Welcome to the dynamic realm of the Jack Russell Terrier (JRT), a tenacious small hunting terrier initially developed in the 1800s by Reverend John Russell for the purpose of fox hunting. This breed's rich history is rooted in intelligence, energy, and a unique set of characteristics that make them both fascinating and challenging.
Tumblr media
Exploring the Origin and Purpose
Fox-Hunting Heritage: Originating from Reverend John Russell's selective breeding, JRTs were tailored for fox hunting. The breed's purpose was clear – to be an energetic and intelligent companion capable of chasing foxes out of dens. This careful breeding resulted in an athletic and determined terrier, well-suited for a life of action.
Understanding the Appearance and Characteristics
Compact and Sturdy Companions: Jack Russell Terriers stand 10-15 inches tall, with a robust and compact build weighing between 14-18 pounds. Their smooth, dense coat, predominantly white with striking black, tan, or brown markings, adds to their allure. The breed boasts proportionate heads, flat skulls, and almond-shaped eyes, creating an unmistakable and endearing appearance.
Clever, Devoted, and High-Energy Nature: JRTs are known for their intelligence, devotion, and boundless energy. These traits demand constant activity and dedicated owners capable of providing structure through training and exercise. To thrive, JRTs need a purposeful job alongside their owners to prevent potential destructive behaviors stemming from their enthusiasm and intelligence.
Delving into Temperament and Popularity
Lively Bonds with Family: Jack Russell Terriers form close bonds with their families, relishing time spent with their preferred humans. While they generally get along well with children, their high energy levels necessitate supervision. JRTs can display aloofness or even aggression towards unfamiliar dogs if not properly socialized.
Steady Popularity: According to the American Kennel Club, JRTs hold the #83 position out of 197 breeds. Their popularity endures, owing to their spunky personalities and versatile nature.
Navigating Lifespan, Coat Color, and Originality
Longevity and Diverse Coats: JRTs boast a lifespan of 13-16 years. Their coats, predominantly white with accents of black, tan, or brown, exhibit individuality. No specific color or pattern is preferred, emphasizing the breed's diversity.
Purebred Legacy: Jack Russell Terriers have maintained their status as a distinct breed since the 1800s, a testament to their originality and purposeful breeding.
Guide to Caring for Your Jack Russell Terrier
Feeding Regimen: Opt for a high-quality commercial diet designed for active dogs, offering 1⁄2 to 1 cup divided into two meals per day. Be wary of potential picky eating habits.
Tailored Environment: JRTs adapt well to various living situations but thrive best with ample space to run safely off-leash. A secure fence is essential to prevent roaming. Indoors, keep them engaged with a variety of toys to stave off boredom-induced mischief.
Care and Exercise Routine: As a working breed, JRTs demand daily vigorous exercise and mental stimulation. Activities like swimming, agility, barn hunts, and earthdog trials cater to their energetic nature. Positive reinforcement training, starting at a young age, is crucial, along with continuous socialization.
Maintaining Grooming and Preparing for Your JRT
Grooming Practices: JRTs feature a smooth, short coat requiring only weekly brushing to remove loose hairs. Occasional baths using a mild dog shampoo, monthly nail trims, and routine ear and teeth cleaning contribute to their overall well-being.
Preparation Checklist for Your JRT: Before bringing home your JRT, ensure a safe environment by puppy-proofing your home. Stock up on interactive toys to discourage inappropriate chewing. Identify local vet, trainer, groomer, and boarding facilities. Purchase essentials like food bowls, collar, leash, dog bed, and chew toys. Install a tall, in-ground fence to secure your JRT's space.
Essential Equipment and Health Considerations
Must-Have Gear: From properly fitted collars and leashes to interactive toys and grooming supplies, equip yourself with the essentials before your JRT's arrival.
Health Insights: JRTs may be prone to health issues such as Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, lens luxation, deafness, patellar luxation, and skin allergies. Responsible breeders conduct health screenings to address these concerns.
Vaccination Protocols and Naming Tips
Vaccine Vigilance: Core vaccines, including distemper, parvo, adenovirus, and rabies, are recommended. Discuss other optional vaccines with your vet based on your location.
Choosing a Name: Opt for a short, one or two-syllable name for training ease. Consider names like Skip, Dash, Piper, Ruby, Scout, or Zoe.
Finding Your Jack Russell Terrier Companion
Connecting with Experts: Contact the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America for reliable breeder referrals. Expect to invest between $800 to $2000 for a well-bred JRT puppy. Alternatively, explore JRT-specific rescues and shelters for the opportunity to adopt an adult dog, ensuring a smooth transition into your home.
Bringing Home a Quality-Bred JRT Puppy
Selecting a Responsible Breeder: Choose a breeder committed to health testing parent dogs. Visit the facility, meet both parents and puppies, secure copies of health clearances, and obtain a bill of sale. A quality-bred JRT puppy typically costs between $800 to $2000.
In Conclusion: The Vibrant Journey with Your Jack Russell Terrier
Embrace the Adventure: The spirited Jack Russell Terrier, with their unique blend of intelligence and energy, promises a journey filled with joy and shared moments. "Breaking Goals into Achievable Steps for an Incredible 2024"
Tumblr media
Hello, amazing souls!
As we dive headfirst into the promise of 2024, let's take a moment to soak in the beauty of the canvas that this year presents. The idea of a supernatural upgrade sounds thrilling, doesn't it? Yet, for some of us, mapping out the entire year might feel a tad overwhelming.
Here's the thing: it's perfectly okay! You're not alone if the thought of planning out the entire year feels like trying to swallow the ocean. Trust me, I've been there. But guess what? There's a superpower in breaking down those big, audacious goals into bite-sized, achievable chunks.
Think of it like this: instead of seeing the year as a marathon, let's turn it into a series of sprints—quarters, months, weeks, each step getting you closer to that finish line of accomplishment.
So, how do we break it down?
Start with the big picture—the yearly goals. Maybe it's that dream project, personal growth milestones, or those ambitions that light up your soul. Then, let's chop those big goals into quarterly targets—bite-sized portions that are easier to digest.
Now comes the magic: monthly goals. These are like stepping stones leading you towards those quarterly milestones. Break it down further into weekly action steps—little pieces of progress that make the big dreams feel within reach.
But hey, here's the secret sauce—give yourself grace. Life has a knack for throwing surprises, and that's okay! If a weekly step turns into a two-week dance, that's all part of the journey. Embrace the detours, learn from them, and keep moving forward.
Remember, each small step is progress. Celebrate those wins, no matter how tiny. They're paving the way for your supernatural, upgraded self.
So, to all my fellow goal-getters, let's start this year not with overwhelming checklists but with a roadmap of achievable steps. One step, one week, one month at a time, we've got this!
With heaps of encouragement and infinite belief,
Caige Phoenix
