A review I recently received on FanFiction.net:
Tumblr media
The bio of this user:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was gonna laugh this off and just delete it, but I thought I’d share. I understand the need for rules, but I honestly find this hilarious. A self-appointed purity police officer that seems like just a random person who’s taken it upon themselves to cleanse the website is equally pathetic, funny, and concerning.
Unfortunately, this review on a fic I cross posted to ff.net serves as a reminder of why ff.net traffic has slowly dwindled down to a trickle, and why Ao3 needs to remain the amazing, uncensored place that it is.
God bless Ao3 and the freedom it provides.
**disclaimer: before uploading the fics I have to ff.net, I was under the impression that the content guidelines outlawed dead dove content, not anything sexual or violent at all. I underestimated just how bad it had gotten over there.

Someone on tiktok just posted that ao3 should have more censorship bc they see tags like #tagtheydontliie/thinkisbad but not #tagidontlike/thinkisbadDNI
I do not think they functionally understand ao3
please god just use the tagging system and stop moralizing the story website

Right, because antis doxxing people, sending death threats, destroying people's livelihoods and bringing them to self-harm ain't a thing, nuh huh sir surely a teenager getting bullied to the point of attempting suicide is not a real problem! It's just silly fandom things that give you brainrot! How cringe of people to worry about this! Surely the rise in puritanism, the anti-trans wave, the absolute state of dismay LGBT+ rights are in (and the even darker future that awaits) aren't directly linked to the internet version of fascist mace-bearers that make someone's life impossible just because they do something that they deem immoral!
We should all keep paying taxes and mind our own business and shake our heads at these stupid not deep things that have zero impact on real life, cause you know there is nothing more inconsequential than bullying, harassment and policing fandom spaces with puritanical scrutiny. Surely all of this doesn't matter and we need to get real problems am I right. Cause this doesn't affect tangible real life it's just cringe people being cringe on the internet about inconsequential things.

The German government pushing through a ban on AO3 to "protect the children" was certainly not on my bingocard for 2023 but great to see Germany is trying to win the award for censorship already so early on in the year

wish i had the balls to send this to all these fuckheads in the selfship community
Tumblr media
alternatively "can you stop censoring proship dni so we can filter you and not have to come onto your stupid blog" like i literally have to interact with your blog in order to block you. did you know that
even put "proship dni" on every single post you make cuz im not reading your shitty seizure-inducing caard hidden in your blog because you think everyone has to cater to you
being able to filter text and tags makes the internet a better place which is something these dipshits cant seem to wrap their heads around

I rarely share my thoughts online, for a variety of reasons, but i feel like in lieu of absolutely no recent events, I should share a writing rule I know of.
It's called the 'rule of imitation' (I don't know if that's what it's actually called, it's just what I know it as). It appears a lot in children's cartoons, and oftentimes we don't even notice it's there since it's sort of a behind the scenes thing.
The idea is simple: You can't show something bad if a small child could see it and reasonably imitate it. Thus, it's fine for a character to be hit by a falling anvil, but not by a friend swinging a baseball bat. It's fine for a character to be shot out of a canon, but not to be shot with a gun.
A child isn't going to have access to a canon or an anvil, but they *could* have access to a baseball bat from the shed, or a gun from dad's bedside table. Thus, the more 'mundane' and less dangerous actions are actually *more* harmful to display, as they could lead to children doing those things and actually hurting someone.
I think this rule of imitation applies to a lot of other things too, mainly: Internet threats.
If someone says they hope another person gets stung by a thousand bees after falling in a vat of radioactive honey, you have to consider that you can't imitate that. It's not a threat because it is very clearly not an event or action that would be able to be replicated in the real world.
If someone says they hope another person dies a painful death involving a car that's covered in hammers that explodes a few times, causing hammers to fly everywhere, you have to consider that you can't imitate that. It's not a threat because it is obvious that no one would be able to do that in the real world, and thus remains in the realm of fiction.
Neither of those are death threats since the action itself is so wild and improbable that it is clear it is not meant to be a serious call to action. What *would* be a serious call to action is someone saying that they hope all [insert slur here] get SAed and stabbed, since that is an entirely possible and probable action for someone to do. *That's* a death threat.
Reporting someone for that should be taken seriously, as it is a genuine call for someone's death. Pursuing legal action towards one of my own, entirely made up examples (radioactive bees, car covered in hammers) would be ridiculous, since anyone with common sense could tell that it's not really a threat.
Of course, i feel the need to make sure @photomatt knows that this is in no way related to predstrogen, because I worry that if they assume that this *is* a jab at them I may get suspended, as that is apparently a valid response in Matt Mullenweg's eyes. Again, just a random thought that popped into my head and i felt the need to share with the good people of Tumblr, and nothing more.

Tik Tok on the Chopping Block - 04/25/2024
Yesterday, Joe Biden signed the Tik Tok Divest-or-Ban bill into law. I covered this bill extensively in my post, "Tik Tok Bill/HR 7521" back on March 16th of this year. This bill forces ByteDance to sell Tik Tok within one year. It's clear to me that this Chinese owned company is controlled by the CCP and is using it to gather information on US citizens and influence children toward committing self-harm and suicide.
Tik Tok's CEO, Shou Zi Chew released the following video statement yesterday. "Make no mistake, this is a ban, a ban on you and your voice. We are confident, and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts. The facts and the Constitution are on our side, and we expect to prevail again." He was referring to how they circumvented Trump's executive order to ban the app in the U.S. back in 2020. Tik Tok's position is that through China's Counterespionage Law, its customer data is stored in Virginia and backed up in Singapore. They claim that they have never or ever will share U.S. data with the CCP. Yet the owner of ByteDance previously issued a letter of apology to the CCP about failing to follow the CCP's directives. It's obvious to me that they are more of an arm of the CCP than a private company and we should not trust them. At the same time, I'm also conflicted about trusting our own government. Regardless it's now signed into law, like it or not.
Tik Tok and ByteDance together spent over $7 million since the beginning of this year on TV and digital ads in an effort to stop legislation from passing the bill. A Tik Tok spokesperson said this, "This expenditure reflects work we do to educate policy makers about how legislation could affect our community of 170 million American users." Tik Tok officials lobbied Congress and Biden's executive office last quarter. Biden's executive office contains the National Security Council, the Office Management and Budget, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and other divisions.
As I mentioned in my previous post on this bill last March, Donald Trump and Elon Musk both came out against it. Trump is concerned that it could expand government powers on other platforms, and Musk is concerned about censorship. The bill is intended to remove any foreign influence and investment in social media platforms and websites here in the U.S. The government would have to prove that a foreign entity is directly involved and then initially force divestment, and then later if necessary deplatform the app and shut down their operating websites.
I'm all for private companies operating platforms that allow freedom of expression, but not if they're being operated by a foreign adversary like China's CCP. Yet I'm always very skeptical of our government and their tendencies to over-reach in order to go after their political opposition. Especially with this current bunch in charge. All we can do is to stay informed and hopefully for the sake of our freedom and security vote in Republican majorities in both the house and senate, and get Donald Trump back into office, in my opinion.

So, Pinterest decided to "crack down on p*d*philia" last month... while I certainly hope they were able to eliminate child abuse, the general effects were about what you'd expect. Here are some of my favorite "violations:"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first one is a manifesto all on its own.
Another affirmation that "action against p*d*philia" will always be used as a cover story for homophobia and censorship of queer love. On top of the misogyny, the censorship of art depicting the human form, and the censorship of anti-nazi. Disappointing.
Meanwhile, they're perfectly happy with promoting Terfs. Here are some Pins they've reviewed as just fine:

sorry but i find it really hard to believe that ao3 was down because of some sudanese hate group that's mad about lgbt content. that Literally just sounds like something people who donate way too much money to ao3 would make up to convince themselves that theyre oppressed for reading incest fanfiction and that the ao3 staff are heroes who are immune to criticism

honestly that lawyer is the Perfect lawyer to be deposing m*sk. he's the one who deposed al*x jone.s and his affiliates, so he's used to dealing with that kind of evasive, half-answer bullshit lol
yeah mr bankston is pretty great at this, especially when having to deal not only with a half wit but also with his equally dim lawyer
