Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Antz

So as I mentioned earlier, I'm watching every Dreamworks animated movie (and special) ever because... I don't know, I fucking hate myself, I guess. But for reals, this studio is so weird because sometimes they'll make the greatest movies literally ever crafted (Prince of Egypt, How to Train Your Dragon, Puss in Boots the Last Wish) and other times they'll make absolute shit like what I had to fucking watch to kick this marathon off. Goddamn fucking Antz.

I plan on doing drive by reviews of each of these movies on here because well, what's the point of watching all these films if I'm not gonna share what I think. So yeah, let's start with 1998's Antz, the first Dreamworks animated film and by god its one of their worst.

If you asked me to tell you what Antz is about, I'm honestly not sure I'd be able to give you a coherent answer because I'm not sure Antz itself knows what Antz is about. Like I think its about individuality? About breaking free from opressive systems?? About thinking for yourself? I guess? But like its annoyingly heavy handed with that message to the point that it doesn't let its audience think for itself. It does a lot of telling instead of showing and as such creates a viewing experience as dull as the dirt these ants call home.

Also lets talk about these Antz. They are Ugly as Sin like seriously who looked at these character designs and thought this was ok???

Most stompable ants of all fucking time if you ask me and the non ants aren't much better. Behold, my new sleep paralysis demons:

As for how the characters act... yeah they're not much better than how they look. The main character, Z, is an annoying asshole who just spends most of the film bitching (and yes they actually use that word, this movie is weirdly littered with swears and cussing and sexual innuendos? More on that later) about his shitty lot in life and even once he breaks free he's still agressively uninteresting. His love interest Bala is just as uninteresting, an arrogant bitch who flip flops about how she feels about him with almost no development whatsoever. The side characters are all forgettable, and the villain, General Mandible is just your generic "wants to rule everyone and get rid of anyone who opposes him" bad guy. The world they inhabit isn't really that creative tbh, they hype up this place called Insectopia but its just a trash heap where a bunch of stoner bugs live and its really not that important to the plot at all really so why do we care???

Also yeah that plot. It starts out as Z being incontent with his lot in life as a simple worker ant and so he switches places with his friend Weaver so he can be a soldier ant, only to be the lone survivor of a battle against a group of opposing termites. This somehow leads to him and Bala winding up outside of the colony and they go on a lame ass adventure that seems incredibly rushed while Mandible is planning to wipe out all of the "lesser" ants and take Bala as his queen i guess? idk i kinda zoned out toward the end bc i was so soul-crushingly board with this movie.

The animation can be impressive for the time I suppose, that's really the only good thing I have to say about it but even then, the colors are dirty and unappealing, the characters are, like I said, all incredibly hard to look at, the music is bland and forgettable, the set pieces are garish and boring, and the writing oh god the writing.

Ok so I have no idea who this movie is meant to be for??? Like its rated PG right but they're constantly throwing out swears like bitch and ass and anus and making sex jokes and I'm just like??? What??? Is this a kids movie? Because what kid would enjoy this thoroughly unpleasant kinda dark movie? Is it for adults? Why would adults want to watch a movie about wisecracking ants??? Who is this for? Why did they make this? Ok well I know why because Pixar was making a very similar film at the very same time as this and Jeffery Katzenburg is a Petty Bitch

Really, at the end of the day, all I can say about this movie is just... don't bother with it? It really sucks, its agressively unappealing and unpleasant to sit through, and when its not assulting you with you how gross it is, its assualting you with how painfully boring it is. I don't think I even cracked a smile once while watching it. What a fucking way to start a Dreamworks marathon off on. Jesus.

Overall rating: 1/10

Spoiler warning for Spiderman Across the Spiderverse

I saw Across the spiderverse and I absolutely love it, I’m not sure if it’s better than into the spiderverse though.

My favorite scenes are every scene in Gwen’s world/universe, the watercolor mood ring look is absolutely beautiful and amazing to look at. Especially the fight with the old cardboard looking Italian Renaissance vulture. The chase scene with all of the spider people was absolutely crazy

I love Peni Parkers new mech so much it’s so cool but Peni looks so sad I feel so bad for her. It looks like her “canon event” just broke her so much.

I love how Hobie looks, It’s so cool how he changes color and how he’s like made out of newspaper scraps or something. I love how his makeshift dimensional portal watch has a unique portal effect.

Hobie and Spiderbyte are my favs from this movie cause I love their suits, their personality and among other things but also because they helped Miles escape. Hobie told him how to break the cage/net and Spiderbyte didn’t reset the portal weaver thing (I forgot the name)

My favorite theme out all of the characters, itsv and atsv is Gwen’s and the Prowlers theme. I love the drums in Gwen’s theme and hearing her theme in the Vulture fight was immaculate. I love Prowlers them because it’s just so iconic and the whale(?) sounds are just so cool and it really tenses up the mood and when it kicks off at around the half way mark it’s just so thrilling to hear yk.

Hi lovelies,

Okay so the other day it was like 6am and I went to the bathroom and there was the FATTEST spider just in the skink. Just chilling. Now according to my religion it’s seriously frowned upon to kill spiders, but also I wasn’t about to put the thing outside at 6am, so you best believe I brushed my teeth in the kitchen sink. Anyways, it naturally makes sense that today I tell you about the myth of Arachne, the spider woman. (Also just a quick TW, this myth does mention r4p3 towards the middle so skip that if you need to and stay safe!)

Arachne (spider in Greek) was a beautiful woman with a great talent for weaving. It is said that nymphs would come from the forests simply to come and watch her weave, and claimed that no other than Athena could have trained her.

Falling victim to human pride, the praise went to Arachne’s head a little and so one day she boasted that her weaving was so good it would put Athena to shame. Now, if you know anything about Greek mythology, it’s that you do not insult the gods. But Arachne obviously ignored this and so when Athena had heard what Arachne said, was enraged.

Athena, disguised as an old woman, appeared before Arachne and warned her of the consequences of upsetting the gods. I will say this one of the few instances of the gods giving a human a chance to show remorse, but Arachne was not in the least bit apologetic and challenged Athena to a contest. She foolishly said that if she lost the contest she would accept any punishment Athena chose for her. At this point, Athena revealed her true form and accepted the challenge. Many were horrified at Arachne’s audacity, but still she refused to back down, and so a weaving competition between the two was decided.

Athena created a tapestry complete with scenes from the history of the gods. She placed Zeus (strategically) in the middle of the Olympic pantheon as well as her own contest, alongside her own victory against Poseidon. At the corner of the tapestry she cleverly depicted humans who had defied the gods and scenes of them being mercilessly punished.

Arachne, however, still determined to defy the goddess, chose a scene that depicted the infidelities and vices of the gods. She too placed Zeus at the centre and portrayed a whole host of indiscretions. She showed a few of the many r4p3s of Zeus, including Swan Zeus and Leda, the Bull and Europa, the Eagles abduction of Aegina, the shower of gold and Danae, and the Satyr and Antiope. According to the Latin narrative, the tapestry showed a total of 21 various divine indiscretions, including those of Poseidon, Apollo, Dionysus, and other Olympians.

Maybe a slightly controversial take, but whilst this may not have been the smartest move she could’ve made, there is no denying its significance in demonstrating the behaviour of the gods and Arachne’s boldness does have to be admired. However, this was obviously not the opinion of Athena who, although she could not deny Arachne’s skill, was still livid over Arachne’s humiliating portrayal of the gods. Athena, therefore, decided to transform Arachne into a spider saying that Arachne and all of her descendants would henceforth hang from threads and be skilful weavers whose works would always be destroyed by humans.

There you have it! The story of Arachne (and also why spiders are classed as Arachnids today). Maybe just think about this myth next time you see a spider, and whilst it may not be true, I think we can still appreciate the beauty of webs. A FRAGMENTED DARKNESS

A dark Gothic romance inspired by the band TYPE O NEGATIVE with the characters of DRAGON BALL Z

Excerpt of Chapter 2: Day Tripper

As they made distance from his Mistress' grave, Launch glanced back anxiously. When no skeletal hands shot out from the ground, she began to feel silly for being so afraid. They came to a stone fountain where water nymphs bathed, and sat on the edge to talk over the pittering of water drops, Raditz holding her hand.

"I've traveled a long way to speak to you, Launch. It was like swimming through sand… Now you're here, and I can touch your hand. Do you know what this means?" He whispered, looking at her intensely.

Now that things had settled, Launch could really look at him. Raditz may have well been any one of the gargoyles in the graveyard for his pale, bluish skin and the bruised skin beneath his eyes. He looked thin, weak.

"I'm just dreaming. There's no way… no way this is real." She chuckled bitterly, pulling her hand away from his to rub the chill away. It felt like ice against hers and she didn't like it.

"Real? That's… debatable. This reality exists only in our minds together, but what constitutes reality? How do you know it's not real?" He asked, and Launch stared back at him, speechless.

"You don't." Raditz concluded, and Launch huffed at that, standing up and looking around at the dream world, searching for a door somewhere.

"I want to go home." She whispered, rubbing the goosebumps on her arms with both trembling hands.

"You are home, sleeping in your bed." Raditz said softly, looking forlorn as she looked annoyed with him from over her shoulder. Launch looked away from him, the wind blowing her indigo curls and wafting the sweet scent of hibiscus towards him.

"You wished for this. Now…you don't want it? You don't want…me?" He accused with hurt in his tone, standing up to follow her through the glade, where cobwebbed thistle bushes glowed with the flickers of trapped lampyridae bugs; struggling to free themselves from the wheel-shaped webs as black and yellow orb-weavers spun cocoons around the already paralyzed lightning bugs.

"I didn't… I didn't know it would even work." She responded softly, stopping to stare up at the moon. He hung back behind her, his thick black hair blowing forward and concealing his face partway.

"What was I even wishing for…? I don't…" Launch breathed, covering her face with both hands as her breath began to quicken, panic setting in. Two large, ice cold hands settled on her shoulders, and Launch gasped, looking up to see a winding path before her, leading into a labyrinth of hedges.

"You wished for me and I came to you, Launch. Tell me what you want. I can try to change your dream!" He said urgently, gripping her shoulders as if he wanted to violently shake her, but resisted.

Launch pried his hands off of her shoulders and began to run, taking off towards the maze. She thought maybe she could lose him in the maze, he was slower than her in his malnourished state. Plus, who was the owner of this dream? Me. I can change my own dreams! I don't need a man to make them come true! She thought courageously, disappearing behind the first mossy green hedge.

"Launch, come back! I can't lose you!" Raditz shouted, but his words were lost to her ears. He watched her run away, his sanguine stare growing sorrowful. He yearned to take chase, but his legs were much too weak. Instead, he took a seat on the fountain and the water nymphs took notice of him, washing the ends of his hair in the pool, giggling. Raditz looked at his own hand, then sighed as it began to dissipate into nothing, his image slowly flickering out before disappearing..

"Let go of me, you creep!" Launch cried, her disgust freeing Lyssa from her binds once more, giving her the strength to lash back and fight against his powerful grip.

"Shh! What's your problem all of a sudden?" He hissed, the ruckus she was causing started to turn heads. Maybe he'd gone too far this time with this tease, all the girls loved a whisper in their ear and his hands stroking their hair, nothing overtly sexual, but enough for them to treasure and fantasize over for years to come. With Launch, maybe he'd gone too far. He wasn't sure what it was, maybe it was that fragrance she gave off, but she seemed to have him mystified.

"My problem is you, bucko! Who do you think you are? Just because you're a rockstar doesn't mean you get a free pass, my body ain't some carnival ride! Why don't you try being a gentleman for once?!" Launch snapped, yanking his hands off her body before he could argue back.

Raditz's hand closed around her arm and he gave her a stern gaze, but his bodyguards were already surrounding the both of them, and they seemed to be on the girl's side.

"Leave her alone."

Yet, Raditz didn't want to let go of Launch, even though she struggled and attempted to pull her arm away.

"I said, leave her alone." Raditz heard the stern commands of the men in his employ, and his hand slowly released its grip. He watched as she walked away, his heart aching with her leaving. Who is that girl, and why is she so intriguing?

Launch was enraged. She stormed away from Raditz, her hand holding her hurt arm as she left the crowd and began walking into the woods. I need to get away from all this, to escape this nightmare and go back to my own reality, but how? Launch agonized, squeezing her eyes shut as tears burned down her cheeks like twin trails of acid, her heart aching as if it had been turned into some voodoo witch's pincushion. She hadn't expected to feel such chemistry with Raditz, so much that it was nearly impossible to hold a conversation with him that didn't turn sexual. It was like stepping into a flame and hoping it didn't burn you, there was just no way.

Both parts of her couldn't deny it though, being touched by him sent pleasure rushing through her veins, she could only imagine what it would be like to have the real thing.

Just one night with him… that's it…

Lacy sighed, and Lyssa snapped back at her.

Wait, what am you thinking?! We can't cheat on Tien!

Launch shook her head and fell to her knees in a pile of leaves, dropping her purse in the process. He's like a drug, and I just took one tiny little hit. Just like that, I'm addicted. She bit back a sob, raking her hands through her multicolored hair and gripping the roots until it hurt just enough to rip those thoughts straight out of her mind. When he'd grabbed her arm like that, his eyes had been so sincere. There was something heavy there, a deep, persistent need that they shared. He wanted to tell her something, keep her there, she sensed it.

I don't wanna be a one night stand, Raditz. I want to be someone to you.

He doesn't even know our name yet.

Her shared thoughts whispered out to him, and Launch slowly released the grip on her hair, releasing the blue and blonde strands tangled around her fingers. In the dream world, you could feel pain, pleasure too. Both were as intense as the other, and she didn't know which was worse.

The line of fans waiting for autographs groaned and shouted obscenities as Raditz took off and left his tent, following Launch's angry footsteps with his own heavy gait. He felt electrically charged, energized. Something about that girl woke him up from the monotony of his rocker lifestyle and slapped him in the face. She wasn't just a groupie, he was sure of it now. Lace was mysterious… She was different somehow. He had this strange drive to find her, it was almost as if someone else was steering the wheels in his mind and telling him what to do next. It felt like deja vu in a way, but he couldn't explain how he knew that. We are electrocute. To make the point again is moot.

The dry leaves crunched underfoot, and he looked around himself. The autumn woods were so serene that it seemed to quell his anger. Still walking, he came across a black bag on the ground. Raditz bent to pick it up, and saw the CD case inside with his phone number and autograph scribbled across it.

Lyrics whispered in his head and he clenched his jaw and in turn his hand, nearly crushing the case.

Got your number on my wall

And maybe you will get a call from me

If I need someone

(Day tripper)

He knew it was a stupid, perverse joke when he wrote it, but now he was regretting ever writing that silly play on The Beatles' original lyrics. Lace was no one night stand "day tripper" type of girl, he knew that now.

Lace. He thought, tucking it back into the bag. Now he had a good excuse to track her down, even though the first was strong he really didn't have any explanation for why he was chasing after a girl in the woods. It was just the draw, whether it be the draw of the hunt or some other machinations of Zeus and Hera that he had no inkling of.

Against his own better judgment, he pulled out her wallet and looked at her ID for confirmation.

Indeed, the blonde haired girl looking back at him was the same as the blue haired one he'd met today. He quickly learned that her name was actually Launch, and committed her home address to memory. He felt underhanded doing such a thing, but he felt so desperate that it seemed necessary. Raditz put her wallet back and zipped up her bag, then followed after the scent of hibiscus and her perfume, like burning leaves.

A primal, predatory part of him growled from deep inside, his crimson eyes honing in on a flash of blue amidst red, orange and brown falling leaves.

Offspring Rating List: DreamWorks Animation

With the new world order happening and people having less kids, which would be vital for conservation and less crowds, I thought I should start this series. You see, Hollywood is under the assumption that audiences can't tell fiction from reality to learn not to repeat the actions as the characters they watch, and as you know, it's always in the DNA of fans to anticipate the couples they watch and/or ship to have kids (because it's a typical part of being a couple), and with the world getting overpopulated, that's why Hollywood's suddenly decreasing that factor and deciding to burst bubbles.
