QUEZON, MANILA -- The Department of Education-National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR), Local Government Units in Quezon City (LGU-QC) and a toxic watchdog group BAN Toxics aims to promote a toxic-free and waste-free environment during a nationwide programme of 'Brigada Eskwela 2023' at the Toro Hills Elementary School (T.H.E.S.) in Brgy. Bahay Toro, Quezon City, Metro Manila. Student residents in this said city ensure T.H.E.S. readies for the upcoming School Year in late-August 2023.
Per the Department of Education (DepEd) Order #21, Series of 2023; 'Brigada Eskwela' is a nationwide school maintenance program activity that encourages education stakeholders to ensure that schools including T.H.E.S. are all set in time for the opening of classes the said scheduled date until graduation in mid-2024 onwards. The theme for this year in the aforesaid programme with a slogan called "Bayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralan" (Community of Unity for a Strong School).

“As classes resume, we ramp up efforts to ensure our children and teachers (in Quezon City) are safe from toxic exposure and schools aggressively promote safe and environment-friendly alternatives, and sound chemicals & waste management”, said Thony Dizon, whose a Toxics Campaigner of BAN Toxics.
Quezon City officials, students, teachers, parents and community partners have all participated in the event. Toxics Campaigner of BAN Toxics (Thony Dizon) and Executive Director (Reynaldo San Juan Jr.) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between T.H.E.S. and a toxic watchdog group emphasizing the commitment to the Toxics-Free Schools Program (TFSP).
The TFSP is a campaign of the aforesaid toxic watchdog group started in 2014 to encourage educational institutions to adopt sound chemicals and waste management in their operations and develop school-based awareness to protect the students and faculty members from the harmful effects of toxic chemicals & hazardous wastes. Some of the toxic chemicals that may be scientifically present in schools include lead, mercury, phthalates, cadmium and arsenic. Exposure to these chemicals pose serious health risks to children & school personnel. The program also promotes proper waste management both in school and at home in Quezon City alone. This includes proper waste segregation, implementing the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle); urban gardening and composting, and minimization of single-use plastics usage.
"We thus enjoin schools and academic institutions to incorporate TFSP and similar initiatives into their curriculum and practice to protect them against the negative effects of chemicals and wastes that could be found in schools, aside from communities and homes", as Dizon added.
“Brigada Eskwela should not be a one-time event, ensuring that the schools are safe and environment-friendly should be prioritized. We call the attention of the Department of Education to adopt a system approach to be able to protect the students, teachers, and school personnel from everyday exposure to toxic and waste”, the toxic watchdog group said in a Media Conference to OneNETnews.
Aside from kicking off the 'Brigada Eskwela' event, solicitations and contributions will be strictly forbidden during and after its maintenance activity, per the radio interview of DWPM-AM's Radyo 630: Manila. A school-wide clean-up drive was organized to promote cleanliness and sustainability, beginning August 14th, 2023 and ends on Saturday afternoon (Manila local time).

Some schools are preparing the 'Brigada Eskwela' nationwide and is already well underway. A cleaner, more environmentally friendly school opens on Tuesday morning (August 29th, 2023) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

You live a better life when you just accept that your comfort character fucking sucks and there's no sympathetic reason or justification for their shitty behaviour, people are flawed, and you look kinda silly when you break your back to try to excuse your favourite character's cruel decisions.
Your favourite character is a hopeless fuckhead sometimes

No More Wasting Coffee Grounds!
[June 8, 2022]
I used to always just toss my coffee grounds and the ones in K-Cups.
Well, not anymore!
Now, I use the coffee grounds mostly just in the shower currently.
I use them as a body scrub, which feels nice and immediately I noticed softer skin.
I also use them in my hair to exfoliate my scalp and I let them sit for a bit as I wash my body so that some of the water gets infused with the coffee.
I’m not sure if the body actually needs soap but if I find out I don’t need soap and I can just use my coffee grounds I absolutely will!
I love the slight coffee aroma that also lingers on my skin afterwards, it’s so nice!
I just hope any future partners I have like the smell of coffee, if not well they’re not worth keeping in my life.
I wonder how else I can use coffee grounds?
Maybe next I’ll use tea?
I want more natural and waste free ways to use things especially in the shower and in general on my body.

Hello Everyone. We just acquired Eco-Friendly Disposable Products. See our homepage for Products & Weekly Deals on this.
I.MTerra's products are Biodegradable FDA Certified cups made of sugar bagasse fiber; not trees! This greatly reduces waste in landfills, giving a final use to an otherwise discarded agricultural by-product, and supporting your sustainable lifestyle!
We are a big fan of this initiative while steering away from plastics all together.
Eco Friendly Products made from plastics is now leading to a huge new problem. We are breathing in microplastics & its affecting our health & farmland.

Day 3716 - Well, despite our best efforts, the dishwasher died a third time and we've given up on repairs. But we did harvest one of the new parts we just installed so that we can sell it to someone that will hopefully have better luck than we did.

why do you dislike duolingo? (assuming ur hatred isn’t recent, because Duolingo has taken a nosedive after the ai integration)
i didn't know about the ai integration. it was always bad because fill-in-the-blank sentences with zero context are not how anyone seriously learns a language. the only thing duolingo has down correct is that you have to spend some time reviewing, if not learning, every single day. i was able to quickly learn enough A1/A2 italian to get by in two weeks by going through a few grammar and phrase books for introductory students. you need to know the explicit rules, the verb forms, adjective modifications, irregular patterns, you need to see them all on a chart, and then you need to copy those charts by hand. whenever i see anyone brag about their streak, i seriously doubt whether they know much at all of the language they're learning.
the gameified apps for language learning that do work are anki cards, (especially for mandarin), memrise, conjugaison, and quizlet, which were all free when i used them extensively. reverso context is not a game memorization app, but it's phenomenal
