The New Politics Of South Africa As Written By Defense Films

The following blog post, is a kind of rough draft/framework for a book I want to write about South African politics.

Think of this as a kind of manifesto that focuses on the kind of policies and legislations that can hopefully improve the lives of the average South African by focusing on the prospective implementation of the following key issues/policies.

Drugs, Cape Town And Free Zones

Taxes And A New Regulatory Body

Legislating The Alcohol Industry

Ensuring The Delivery Of Basic Services

Revamping Free Education Infrastructure

Eradicating Corruption Within The South African Police

Improving Health Care And Introducing Free Health Care

A New Prison Reform And Rehabilitation System

Relegislating Small Businesses For Economic Growth

Key Issues, Policies, Legislations

1. Drugs, Cape Town And Introducing Free Zones

For decades now residents of the Cape flats have suffered under a never ending wave of crime and poverty with no real end in sight.

From corporate involvement to governmental, policing and then community orientated legislation have all failed to completely redress or address a culture of drugs and gang violence.

Among the key problems when police do attempt enforcement strategies that will likely conclude in a raid, is that they invariably disrupt citizens.

What I would propose is for there to be legalized drug use and drug sales within a given location, outside of residential areas, a minimum of 5km away from the school or hospital on the outermost perimeter of the district/ward.

The idea here is to separate the drug use and gang violence from the citizens by giving them a space and funneling all criminal activity into one area.

Now of course, there is the threat of gang members being in closer proximity to each other, and more cases of violent incidents, but I fear we may already past that threshold, with violence already affecting the daily lives of citizens who would be better off without the gang violence.

Having all drug sales and drug-related violence pushed to one part of the neighborhood/ward/district, will ease some of the pressure for the police from both an enforcement perspective and hopefully, in terms of investigations.

The likelihood of the police doing and effective investigation will be heightened of the amount of places the incident could have occurred in, is within a 5 km radius.

At a communal level, this initiative will require help from some key people within any distric we choose to implement it in.

These are:

Drug intervention specialists

Gang intervention activists

Community activists

Local primary school principals, high school principals, and as well as Department Of Education representatives.

Station commanders of all the surrounding police departments.

Upon successful implementation, the first mandate of the government is to leverage the existing small business infrastructure (small scale car mechanics, hair salons, spaza shops and taverns) and organize as many of them as franchisees with the intention of growing the small business sector in the Cape flats.

The reason this is important is that while you can separate the criminals from the tax payers, most drug dealers have access to cash on hand and that will give them an advantage in bringing the community back in to the criminal element.

To curtail this, you must ensure that the community gains something from the absences of the dealers and the users, and the best incentive, is a way for them to make money on their own, and have something to protect, so as to discourage any financial dealings with the gangsters.

Should the FreeZone intitiative succeed in Cape Town, then the goal will be to use it to alleviate drug related violence throughout the country.

2. Taxes And A System That Fosters Accountability

What we need is a system that allows the average tax payer to go and look for themselves exactly how tax revenue is being allocated in their ward, city, town or province.

What I suggest is that Tax Revenue, and exactly how much tax revenue should be displayed to the public, the way the stock exchange lists the value of a stock.

Complete and utter clarity, 24 hours a day, every single day, with regards to the displaying of THE EXACT AMOUNT of funds available in the tax revenue,

Furthermore, we must create an accountability bureau with the goal of tracking all tax monies, and should taxes monies be rendered/ withdrawn for the sake of service delivery, or for the sake of issuing funds for a tender, not only will that transaction be a matter of public record via display, there will be tax accountability officers taske with tracking the expenditure of those monies ditributed.

The accountability officers should not be tasked with procurement of tax revenue at all. They are solely responsible for ensuring that monies taken out from the countries tax revenue are used appropriately, and only for the stated intention, and that includes procuring the change/remains from the expenditure.

Key to implementing this is creating the right kinds of legislation to empower the accountability officers by giving them access to South African Police personnel upon request, giving their cases and investigatoins priority and allowing the National Prosecuting Authority to act upon their findings in cases of deviance, thievery or fraud.

3. Re-Legislating The Sale, Distribution and Consumption Of Alcohol

I propose that the country must curtail the availability of alcohol in South Africa and for all of the county’s major distillers, breweries and outlets to export no less than 70% of their inventory over seas and across borders to other countries..

The 2nd piece of legislation to aid the limiting of alcohol is for South Africa’s bars, liquor stores, taverns and restaurants to cease sales of alcoholic beverages for a maximum of 5 hours per day.

That would mean that local liquor outlets should only be operational and serving beverages from 6pm-11pm.

Furthemore the legal drinking age in South Africa should be raised to 23-years of age,so as to curtail early exposure to alcoholism.

4. Restructuring The Implementation Of Service Delivery

-Across All 278 Municipalities, 8 metropolitans, 44 districts and 226 local municipalities.

To support the new tax accountability system and among the chief mandates to be implemented and entrusted to the tax accountability officers is related to service delivery.

How services and essentials are delivered to the impoverished communities in South Africa has long been an issue. Electricity, water, access to medical care, services and products are often not delivered to the intended to recipients.

Tax accountability officers must ensure the end of this by tracking government spending with regards to these communities, and in cases where service delivery was entrusted to a private company/business via a tender, the accountability officers must ensure that the service has been rendered or is in working condition, and that all moneis are properly accounted for.

5. Revamping Free Education Infrastructure

Improving existing free schooling infrastructure

Redefining what constitutes a private and a public school

Allowing private schools to operate as private institutions

Revamping government education curriculums (introduce early financial education, early introduction to the sciences)

The INTEC initiative and introducing trade skills to learners post high school.

Intergrating the South African Qualifications Agency, The Council For Educators and the Department Of Education in implementing

The first legislation that needs to be passed to affect positive changes in the education sector, is redifining more acurately what constitutes a private school and what constitues a public school.

Particularly with schools registered in quintiles 4 and 5 according to the Department of Education, where each student is allocated less than R1000 toward each child’s education, and the quintiles that also have the most financially self-sustainable schools.

This legislation would also allow schools in quintiles 4 and 5 to operate as fully independant businesses and allowing a free market as far as private schools are concerned, while also freeing up more of the total budget to be used on the poorest sectors of education and schooling.

Furthermore, the remaining schools, listed from quintiles 1-3, wll undergo a revamp of the education curriculum, with a bigger focus on the fields of financial planning, science, technology, and in some provinces, agriculture.

The implementation of these changes to the curriculum wll require careful strategic planning, because all schools will need to have new infrastructure installed like computers, tablets, cellphones, and this also means, installing new security at all local schools in quintiles 1-3.

The third piece of legislation will be the creation of a free post highschool tertiary college infastructure, where citizens of any age can attend to learn skills in trades like welding, plumbing, electrical maintanance, carpentry, metalworks, accounting, computer literacy, agriculture, administration and human resource management.

Ideally, this model would resemble something closer to American community colleges, where a citizen of any age, gender, class or race, can enroll and learn skills in variety at no monetary cost.

6. Eradicating Corruption Within The South African Police Service And Empowering The Prosecution Of Tax Thieves

Empowering Hawks and separating them, allowing them to run independantly of the SAPS.

Eradicating Corruption with the SAPS

Empowering the National Prosecuting Authority, supporting legislation that will limit any chance of another incident like State Capture.

Instituting a 20-year statute of limitations on white collar crime, tax fraud and embezzlement, to really empower prosecutors to engage in prolonged investigations into high-level crime and tax theft, with the goal of allowing prosecutors to act retro actively regarding investigations, prosecutions and recovery of tax payer monies.

The first and most important mandate relating to law enforcement and crime prevention must be legislations that empower the National Prosecuting Authority and enabling them to pursue more investigations into corruption at both the governmental and corporate levels.

The first way to do this is to extend the statue of limitation on white collar crime, racketeering, embezzlement, money laundering, tax fraud and/or thievery to 20 years or more.

The idea is to give the prosecutors and investigators more leeway to prosecute crimes and recover tax moneis retroactively.

The next piece of legislation is one that allows the Hawks, South Africa’s anti-corruption unit to be run 100% independent of the South African Police Service.

The creation of new office spaces, new databases, filing systems, operations, administration, investigators and officers, completely outside the jurisdiction and oversight of the South African police, and this will extend even further into active and on-going investigations and prosecutions.

Any and all internal affairs and investigations into the South African Police Service and it’s officers will be conducted by the Hawks and will be given priority by the National Prosecuting Authority.

7. Improving Health Care Infrastructure And Introducing Free Medical Health Care

Financing the improvement of our healthcare system to Increase the number of hospitals, quality of facilities and number of hospital staff throughout the country.

Implementing free health care for South Africans below a specific income.

Aggressively integrating traditional healers into the formal medical health sector.

The Traditional Health Practitioner’s act of 2007 provides us with a starting point as far as legislation that intergrates the traditiona and formal health sectors is concerned, but what we don’t have is on-the-ground integration and combined utilization of both traditional and formal medical practices by the working public.

For instance a more practical way to apply the act of 2007, would be to have formally trained doctors doing check-ups and diagnosis along side a traditional healer.

The ideal is for traditional healers to more actively participate in the medical services sector and function almost as auxiliary hospital staff.

The economics of how this would work is where the variables lie. For instance, one way to organize this would be to have traditional healers register under a local hospital but that on it’s own does not provide the kind of financial incentive for local traditional healers.

The other way is for traditional healers to receive government subsidies, and in this way they can be financed to have a premises of their own where they can take consultations and have a formally trained nurse or doctor on hand for additional consultation or vice-versa.

The point is that South Africa’s public health care sector needs help and there is already a culture that can help accomplish this, if the formal and public health sector can integrate traditional healers in a way that the public sees as helpful.

The National House of Traditional Leaders is a body comprised of traditional healers from all over South Africa and the formal medical sector must lean on this body to help bring in, organize and streamline local traditional healers in South Africa’s poorest areas so as to intergrate them faster and help alieviate the understaffing of South African public hospitals.

8. A New Prison Reform and Rehabilitation System

The rates of violent crime in South Africa have become a kind of black mark on our country’s justice system and the rates of repeat offenders point to a further indictment of out prison reform system an whether it does indeed reform it’s inmates..

A country riddled in poverty is a country riddled by crime, and one thing that is clear, is that beyond policing and innovations in enforcement, one thing we can address, is how prisoners are reformed.

There are plenty of statistics and studies that prove that the more modern and somewhat humane practices used in Eastern European countries are indeed something to aspire to, and indeed using methods like these is not a matter of needing an ideal economy or any kind of distant future, to begin implementing more humane policies.

One of the ways to perhaps get better results and also achieve reconcilliation between victims of crime and inmates, are programs that facilitate direct, face-to-face dialogoue between the two parties.

For instance, in a situation where the victim of a murder has left a family behind that is now earning a grant from the government from having lost their provider, it will be the responsibility of the inmate to deliver the grant paymment, via a payslip already in the grant recipient’s name; to the grant holder directly and fac-to-face, every month.

Programs like these ensure a direct communication, and helps past violent offenders, see the effects of the damage they’ve done while also being part of the solution.

Among the key issues to be addressed is finding ways to remedy the alienation and isolatoin that inmates and prisoners have from the broader society, by implementing new inmate parole programs especially with regards to non-violent offenders.

Having a parole program that allows inmates to leave the prison facilities and either work or accomplish tasks in active society, and then return to the facility while they are serving their sentence so as to prepare them for life on parole and eventually freedom.

There are two ways to effectively intergrate former inmates back in to society.

The first is by incentivizing businesses to hire newly freed inmates in the form of grants and subsidies that pay businesses for hiring a certain number of former inmates.

Another is by creating businesses that exist specifically to hire inmates in the agricultural sector.

Inmates/ felons must face their victims or families of their victims.

A revamped parole system that aggressively implements putting former inmates back in to society.

State-owned businesses created specifically to support ex-inmate work programs, and which sectors/industries should be subsidized most aggressively in hiring former inmates.

9. Relaxing Small Business Legislation To Spur Economic Growth?

Infrastructure Spending

Relaxing Regulation for small businesses and micro transactions, the return of sole propietorships.

Legitimizing and integrating the informal business sector

Re-legislating sidewalk spaza shops

Involving Black Owned South African Banks and Leveraging Their Expertise To Spur Growth In The Country’s Poorest Communities

okay, thinking about everything we know so far about all the puzzles, the couch numbers, furniture, waystones and mines, i think that obviously there are three people working against the federation, but they're not working together, or, at least, not all of them.

i think everything started with person (1) stealing the furniture as a way to protest against the presidential votes, keep it in mind that person (1) had richas working with them and leading the investigation onto the wrong person, bbh.

person (2) is the one with the couch numbers, who saw the reaction with the furniture and used it to do the puzzle, BUT person (2) needs to be someone who speaks both spanish and portuguese because to solve the puzzle u had to get the phrase "eu te vejo" to understand the order of binary that translates to "viva la revolución" and for that we only have to 2 people, roier and willy.

person (3) is the one who broke the waystones and it's a not a mystery, it's just aypierre.

person (4) is the one with the mines which is willy.

so, i'm leaning towards willy and roier here because of a few things, but the one that is making me lean more towards roier is because of richas' missing gaming chair being person (1), only a few people knew about that, roier and cellbit, and richas would be the one to cover up for roier. we know that willy and roier have been scheming together with the mines, so they may be working together and person (2) is them.

so that leaves us with:

person (1) = roier.

person (2) = willy and roier (maybe).

person (3) = aypierre.

person (4) = willy.

i’ll go as fast and short as i can

DISCLAIMER i have bad memory my chronological order of these past few days is not the best some things may be incorrectly placed so just keep that in mind. some events may be not 100% perfect chronological order 👍

eggs wake up completely dirty one day. all of them. nobody knows why. the eggs don’t remember why or how. but for some reason they were covered in dirt and their cracks looked worse.

around this same time. theres a voting poll going on for a new rule. and basically someone went around stealing all the furniture from everyones bases. leaving only a tiled magma block. they also left black and white couches arranged in numbers and codes. when they deciphered it it resulted in to phrases “I see you” & “Tomorrow”

next day. they all disappear. they are not in their beds when the first person (fit) goes to check for their egg. all thats left on their bed is their little accessories so for instance chayannes bed only had his floatie, pomme only had her berret, and so forth. everyone begins panicking because they were most likely kidnapped and taken again. and some of them from their highly protected bunkers. theres only no note or anything so there is no hints as to where they went. when people ask cucurucho all he would say he classified.

also on this same day all the popular waystones get stolen like ones that’d go to spawn etc etc. they get placed on a platform above the presidents base with a warning not to break them or hell would break loose and also a bunch of binary that translated to viva la revolución. to clarify the eggs disappearing and all these puzzles seem to be separate occurrences.

at some point cucurucho tells qcellbit to investigate some shit and he begins solving enigmas again.

people at this point were pretty fucking fed up including the president who was ready to blow everything up from his anger. until he woke up the next day wearing a white suit and had a wide smile on his face. he keep saying how happy he was and how he couldn’t wait to see richas. there was also a clock that would tick louder and louder when the drugs began to fade. he would become hostile and violent. and then he’d take another dose and become happy again. people began logging in and talking to him particularly antoine was the first to speak with him and later spoke with bbh cellbit. they all agreed something was very wrong and began investigating. they found a secret room in forevers base and that led to a small house in that room with blue walls to represent the sky and fake png flowers and when they went inside they found what appeared at first to be richarlyson. until they walked closer and saw in the place where richas would be was instead a big gray boulder and stones. so they clocked quickly that the “richas” qforever kept talking about was likely given to him by cucurucho and him hallucinating his son on that bed due to the effects of the drugs. they began scheming a plan to get him off the drugs and save their friend. qpac also witnessed qforevers behavior and had an idea himself. he was going to willingly let them inject him and feed him those drugs so that he could find a way to create an antidote before the effects became too strong. while investigating qcellbit overheard a conversation qforever was having with the fake version of richas and he interrupted and tried to snap qforever out of it. however he this only caused a big argument as qforever would not budge so qcellbit did the one thing he thought would work and he broke the fake richas bed. instead of a lucid moment qforever only sat in the corner of the room facing a wall and said that he’d get cucurucho to fix cellbit too.

phil also arrives this day ^ and earlier after learning about all the eggs disappearance and all the shitshow thats been going on he decides with the help of two others masked individuals (tubbo & fit) to lava cast the entire federation building. the one that was creates during the election. and they did they completely covered it in lava then placed water over it and it was lava cast. phil then left a note at the top that read “we want answers. we want our children back. we know you know what happened to them. stop the games. you have until the end of this week.”

also that same day foolish found the missing capybara mr mustard and became king of the capybaras officially.

meanwhile all that was happening (honestly i may be mixing up what events happen on the same day so please excuse my chronology here) tubbo noticed two fed workers appeared at spawn who he swiftly dubbed fred and jed after speaking to them a bit. he became relatively closer to fred and taught him what a friend was however fred said he was new to the federation and didn’t know anything he was talking about when he asked about the eggs.

so the next day comes around and qpac is under the effects of the drugs. same thing white clothes big smile. fit and tubbo are the first ones to log on and see their friend in this state to they help and talk to him as much as they can. and sorta realize that when qpac is slowly losing the effects of the drugs he becomes depressed rather than angry like qforever did. he also has more lucid moments than qforever and sometimes broke out of the effects shortly before going back under. later cellbit logs on finds his friend in this state and decides he will not be leaving today until they are better. cellbit speaks with bbh and phil and they begin setting up a trap to secure a way to take the drugs off qforever. cellbit meanwhile starts investigating for some answers. in his base he finds a note left from qpac detailing his plan to take the drugs to find a cure and that it was in qcellbits hands now. so he goes to chume labs and reads a bunch of books and diaries that eventually led him to chume labs island. on this island he found another diary from qpac that wrote about the antidote and needing to use fermented spider eye on the drugs. and coincidentally two of the pill bottles in that same chest with the book. so cellbit immediately rushes back to phil and bad telling them about the cure and they begin brewing. and to their success it worked the cure was called reality dose which description was “A mixture capable of bringing back those lost in dreams to what is real.” so then they devised a way to get them to use the cure. and i won’t go into it in detail cause i was like half watching and i’m not the most informed in what happened next but i think qpac after some talk with the others and being reminded of his purpose in taking the drugs willingly took the cure. then qforever was harder i know him and qcellbit were screaming at each other and i think after they made qforever take the cure he began hallucinating that qcellbit was cucurucho

small edit here: ive been informed both qpac qforever took the antidote willingly and that qforever took it first.

and said that cucurucho told him that the eggs RAN AWAY because there is something on the island that is far worse than the codes or the federation. so the eggs were so scared they fled without saying anything. qforever then fell unconscious and is resting in the orders hospital.

outside of his enigma solving for cucurucho. qcellbit goes back into the abandoned adoption center room in hopes for some clues as to where the eggs went and he finds a map for what appears to be a maze. with code at the bottom translating to A1 and also he found more code somewhere else i cannot remember that said “the answer is not in the center.”

so then this same day tubbo gets visited by FRED the federation worker which gives him a book with a code and leaves. the code translated to “tomorrow 1pm pst” and so we wait for tomorrow to arrive

AND IT DOES tubbo is freaking the fuck out cause he thinks hes getting kidnapped. he tells pac and fit something is gonna happen to him at that time. fit has an encounter with the code entity and it drops a clock in front of him and leaves.

and so 1pm pst arrives and tubbo noticed at his base theres weird black concrete placed around and a black chest in the middle with a book saying not to tell anyone, go to spawn, and an x coordinate. around this time roier and slimecicle log on and also show up at spawn with their own books. after some time they figure out they need to put their coords together and go to that place so they do! its near the wall and they find fred standing there with a gun. he signals to them to go into the cave behind him and they follow. he tells them to keep quiet and once they reached the end of the cave he tells them he cannot go on further with. they see and it seems to be the entrance to a labyrinth. they go through making their way occasionally spotting fred who then they’d chase. until they reached a room which appeared to have two observations decks in the walls above. one with a black couch and the other with a white. there was also a room with a locked door. also what appeared to be a hidden underground section with iron bars and through the iron bars tubbo and slime spot. a cucurucho. however instead of white it was fully black and instead of the usual black pixel face the face was red. when they spot it it immediately runs away deeper into the underground section it was in. the three decide to go in and they reveal a round room with a roulette wheel in the center with all the accessories of the eggs around the wheel.

there was barrier blocks around the roulette wheel. tubbo saw that and glitched himself through with an enderpearl. realizing after he only had one and had successfully trapped himself in there. he also realized he put himself in the predicament where he had to spin the wheel without knowing what it’d do. tubbo began panicking because he didn’t want to be the reason any of the eggs died. all roier and slime could do is watch. after more panicking tubbo spins the wheel and it landed on 5! the room immediately begins flooding with lava with him in it trapped. the. egg accessories begin to cover with lava. tubbo begins pleading to the others to find a way to get him out of there but there is none. the room outside the barrier blocks also begins to flood with lava and mobs begin spawning so roier and slime begin panicking. at one point slime goes down and roier does a sick clutch save‼️ tubbo realizing once he uses a totem he gets fire res and is able to warp out. slime is able to warp out and roier stays a little behind to see if he could open the locked door. he isnt able to. he leaves but once theyre all safely out they decide to go back in to figure out how to open that door. more lava begins flooding the maze more mobs begin to spawn and mines begin to blow up and coincidentally one of the mines blows up the entrance to that locked door. and they go inside and reveal it is a simple federation office with a desk and computer. with nothing else really. they once again leave successfully and around this time cellbit logs on. they tell him everything and they decide to go back and show him the maze because turns out he had that map for it from the puzzles however they once they reach where the room was inside it is completely blocked off. but what they do find is a bunch of federation posters placed inside talking about order and happiness? and also a timer that had 24 hours on it ticking.

later this day we see a streamer tweet out an image of the roulette wheel from today and a went live twitch link. we see streamer bagi in minecraft. her character in an unknown rather empty building with a tree in the center. she walks further into the building and finds a chest with a book inside and a roulette wheel. the book says “let the wheel decide. you will have to follow the light.” she spins the wheel and it lands on two. the floor disappears and she is immediately is dropped below into the overworld. shes in the ocean its raining when she reaches land its snowing. she follows the light which appears to have chests with books that detail how cold it is and if shes getting closer. she follows the trail and we notice more and more black concrete surrounding the biome shes in. interestingly enough first watching i thought they were spruce trees until i realized it was all black concrete. similarly scattered to where tubbo roier and slime found their books. so then she reaches the end of the trail with the final book stating “they should be here any time soon :)” and next to the chest a quartz table with a ticket laying on top of it with her name on it.

09.01.24 first of these of the year! im late to the party but i just got apple music back (in a 2 month trial of course im not paying for shit) and turns out:

my top artist of the year was orville peck<3 love him. its because i discovered like a year late, ‘bronco’. its fucking amazing

my top song was ‘la cumbia del mole’. that last chorus makes me go !!!!!

my top genre was… fucking soundtracks?!! apparently!??!! then a-pop, then ORIGINAL SCORES??!!! then j-pop, then country<3

Time for another week of @journeythroughjourneytothewest's book club! Complete with a brand new counter!

Chapter 5

Summary

Wukong has recently become quite chummy with the various spirits of Heaven. Fearing what he will do if continued to be left to his own devices, the Jade Emperor orders him to maintain the Garden of Immortal Peaches, where the Peaches are both Immortal and grant Immortality (not Bootleg this time), where Wukong proceeds to eat the rarest of the peaches. The Queen Mother hosts the Peach Festival, to which Wukong was not invited. He impersonates another immortal to attend, where he knocks the entire party out with a sleep bug, gets drunk, eats his fill, stumbles over to Laozi's place, and realizes how extremely he Dun Goofed when he eats some sacred pills meant to go the Jade Emperor. He flees back to Flower Fruit Mountain, and the Heavenly Army is sent to bring him back in. Wukong's Army has managed to hold off but not push back the Heavenly Army when the chapter leaves off.

Misc. Notes

Monkey Manners Counter: 4 (Wukong calls everyone "bro", including his superiors)

Speaking of the "bro"ing, the reactions of the Xu Jingyang/the Jade Emperor remind me of how the older generation reacts when a language loses its formality (see the "Crassification" of English, or German's formal you generally falling out of use with the modern generation (at least, based on stories from my dad))

Once again, we're told that Wukong is inherently mischievous (which, given the shenanigans this chapter, isn't a completely unwarranted comment)

So Wukong has the power to immobilize people and create sleep bugs. Why did he immobilize the maidens, anyway?

Wukong is very impulsive. Saw a bit of it w/ stuff like the Dragon Incident, but he's just giving into so much Temptation™ here

Wukong going back to Heaven after fleeing to go get his monkey buddies some Good Food™ is very wholesome ❤

The Jade Emperor really called all the king's horses and all the king's men to catch one (1) Monke (🐒)

• Wukong, when the cops he knew were gonna get called on him show up: What is this? The consequences of my own actions? How dare they!

Thoughts

Viva la revolución

Did the Jade Emperor fear Wukong was going to cause/inspire some kind of revolt? The text goes out of its way to mention that "[Wukong] no longer consorted with friends" because he no longer had the time to post-gaining his post at the Garden, which when added on that they were worried he had too much time on his hands/did not like how casual was, gives me "up and coming revolutionary" vibes (at least from their perspective, as Wukong seemed content enough pre-Garden)

Classism in Heaven

TL;DR: Book emphasizes that Wukong is from essentially a lower class of immortal who got promoted shortly before his subordinates (who are from the upper class) disrespect him, which makes me think the beef might not be personal.

The general situation pre-festival reads as a metaphor for classism. Specifically with the 'Divine Maidens coming to collect peaches' scene, where the other immortals made up excuses as to why they could go behind Wukong's back and take from the Garden he was in charge of without gaining his permission. Of note is the remark from one of Wukong's subordinates, "'Our Great Sage has a habit of wandering,'" which comes very shortly after the narration "[Wukong] did not take any more trips [after being assigned to the Garden]". Being annoyed about a change in management causing inconveniences is normal, however, it has been established that court etiquette/the Bureaucracy is taken very seriously in Heaven, making the choice to ignore it where Wukong is in charge stands out. Additionally, the chapter goes out of its way to stress that Wukong is only able to consider the simple things (eating three meals a day, making friends, sleeping well) and none of the "complicated" things like title, rank, or properly addressing one's superiors/subordinates, despite the fact that Wukong and the other immortals of FFM demonstrably understood at bare minimum rank last chapter. Given that it specifically associates these aspects with Wukong being a monkey demon and uses food to emphasize that the FFM Immortals are lower-class than the Heavenly Immortals (coconut water vs peaches festival), the whole situation comes across as an allegory for classism (ie despite being a well-regarded member of his community, because he had to literally fight to gain his position in the upper class, he isn't respected by those who were already immortal).

(Of course, there’s an alternate reading where the beef is personal and bc Wukong ‘skipped the line’ in terms of rank, so YMMV.)

On a meta level, this chapter was a chore to read. I think it comes from the pacing. It feels like it goes too slow when it needs to speed up and too fast when it needs to slow down. How did everyone else feel?
