UshiKage post timeskip hcs
I haven't thought about UshiKage in awhile, so here we go!
MANGA SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!
Okay, we know they're on the same team now and clearly they're close enough that Kags was able to be like >:C and wordlessly pull Ushi over when Hinata and Oikawa sent him that selfie, but let's talk about what led up to all of that and how they became volleyball cowboyfriends.
So Kags graduates and he goes to join the Schweiden Adlers. I'm gonna say he's moving to Oita then because that's where the real team is based off of, but wherever they are, Kags is moving from his little town to the big city. As we all know, the little baby blueberry is shit with directions, like absolutely shit. Reading? Kags doesn't know her. So when he first arrives in Oita, it's all good because his parents are there and some of Karasuno may have gone to help him out too and they help him figure his way around his neighborhood a bit, but when it comes time for him to be alone and do things on his own, Kags thinks he's gonna be okay, but he 100% isn't. He thinks Google Maps is going to be all that he needs, but once again, he can't read, so he gets lost on his first day to practice and is like fuuuuuu!!
Meanwhile, Ushi's at practice with the rest of the team and they all know that they're getting new players and he heard it was going to be Kags and was like, "Cool. I know him." But Kageyama hasn't shown up yet and everyone is getting concerned and the coaches are trying to call him, but he's not answering for some reason. Since Ushi knows him, he volunteers to try and figure out where he is because yeah, he doesn't have his number, but he still has Daichi's number for captain reasons, so he calls him up to see if he could get Kageyama's number or if he knew what was up. Daichi, of course, is momentarily freaked out because what do you mean you can't find my son?! but once Ushi explains the situation, Daichi is like, "Ah, I see. He got himself lost then." So now that the team knows that Kageyama just has no sense of direction or reading ability, they're all calmer, but now they have to go and find him because it's been over an hour and he's still not there.
Go back to Kageyama and he's still trying to decipher Google Maps, hence why he won't pick up his phone. He wants to try and ask someone for help, but he's worried that they won't help him or know either, so he just keeps wandering around, trying to find a place that looks familiar to him. He eventually ends up stopping in a convenience store for milk because why not? He's already late and that's where Ushi finds him because Daichi jokingly mentioned that Kageyama might be in a place where he can get his daily milk and yogurt, so Ushi decided to search some places near the gym. Luckily, Kageyama didn't get too lost, so Ushi was able to find him easily and they two of them get to practice together.
Despite the early mix-up, practice goes well and when it ends, the team decide to go and get food together. That all goes well too and Kageyama is doing his best to try and get to know his new teammates, but also, even though they played on opposite sides of the court and may not have ended on the greatest of terms, he's also secretly glad that there's someone that he knows there, like Ushi and Hoshiumi. It's time for them to all head out, but Kageyama is feeling nervous again since he got lost this morning, but thankfully, Ushi's former captain instincts kicked in and he was already planning on helping Kageyama get home. They do some small talk, like how long Ushi has been here and if he likes it and some stuff about volleyball, but really they don't really talk much, but neither of them are talkers, so it's all good. They get to Kageyama's place and Ushi makes a casual mention that he's actually not too far from here, so if Kageyama wants to meet up tomorrow and go to practice together, he'd be cool with that. Kageyama agrees and they set up a time and exchange numbers for the next day.
The next morning, Ushi meets Kags at his place, but Kags is running late again because he was looking for something, so he let's Ushi in to wait inside. It's then that Ushi sees how Kageyama is living and normally, he wouldn't care, but his former captain instincts kick in again and he's like, "Oh no. He needs help." because yes, Kageyama is a genius setter, but that boy doesn't know how to function as a human being. He told Ushi yesterday that he's been moved in for about a week now, but the place looks like he's been living there for too long. It's a mess and he's got laundry everywhere. He doesn't have any food to cook with, besides milk and yogurt, and has largely been living off of meat buns. He's still alive obviously, but Ushi is worried about how he'll be in the long run, so while they're walking to practice again, Ushi tells Kageyama that if he needs help figuring out how to live on his own and basically not die, he'd be happy to help and Kags is like, "Oh thank god because I think Suga thinks I'm stupid for calling him and asking how long to microwave things."
So from there, Ushi starts going over to Kageyama's more often and teaching him basic things, like how to do his laundry and how to not starve. He also shows him around Oita more too and helps get Kageyama more familiar with the city and the rest of the team as well. Kageyama is kinda confused by it all, but he's happy to accept the help until Ushi explains that he was also lost when he first came to Oita, so he figured Kageyama was feeling the same too. Of course, they also bond over volleyball as well because we all know the two of them are just volleyball idiots with only volleyball in their brains, so they're bonding more over that as well.
Eventually, the two of them end up being friends to a lot of people's surprise, but they've both changed a lot over the years as well. Because of Hinata and Karasuno, both of them got a kick in the ass and better learned the importance of working as a team and how being strong on your own isn't enough. Because of how blunt Ushi is, he's very open and direct when it comes to telling Kageyama what kind of tosses he prefers, even though he knows Kageyama is capable, which honestly, Kageyama prefers because yes, he's good, but he's also dumb and he can't read minds. The fact that Ushi just tells him what he wants makes it easier on him. Ushi likes Kageyama for his skill, but also his passion for volleyball. There are plenty of people who are passionate of course, but not many on the team will stay as late as Ushi does and Kageyama will stay to help him. Not only that, after Shiratorizawa, while he did appreciate Semi and Shirabu, both of them set for the good of the team, which meant for the good of Ushi, in Washijou's eyes. After joining the Schweiden Adlers, Ushi got to work with different setters and found that working with Kageyama was nice because Kageyama brought his own personal setting skills as well and it wasn't just about Ushi, but the two of them working together. Not only that, since Kageyama isn't great with words and Ushi isn't either, the both of them now have a silent understanding of each other, especially when it comes to their emotions, which is something both of them struggle with expressing.
They get a weekend break or something, so both of them decide to head back to Miyagi together to see their friends and family. The two of them already spend enough time together that you'd expect them to want a break, but when they get there, they both realize it is a little weird to not be around the other, so they end up meeting over their break anyway. lol! Ushi had mentioned before that his family had a farm, so he offered to take Kags with him since they have cows and he knows Kags loves milk. Kageyama is tempted by milk, but he's also worried because what if the animals don't like him? What if he accidentally hurts on? What if they're scared of him? But after talking to Hinata, he manages to get Kageyama to go.
They get to the farm and Kags is still freaking out, but Ushi reassures him that all the animals on the farm are used to people and won't hurt him. They go see the cows first because they're just chilling in the barn, but Kageyama is still worried until Ushi carefully explains to him how to pet them and feed them and how they won't do anything to hurt him. Kageyama manages to finally pet a cow and he's legit about to cry because not only is he petting an animal, it's also not trying to run away from him or anything, even though he knows he's doing that scary smile face. Ushi tells him it's because the animals know he's nice and isn't trying to hurt them, so he shouldn't be worried about it. They go around and pet more of the animals and all of them love Kageyama and he's just a happy little blueberry. They eventually go inside and that's when Ushi is like, "I've got fresh milk and yogurt, if you want some," and Kags is like, "This is the best day of my entire life." They head back home after that to spend time with their own families before they meet up to head back to Oita.
Throughout all of this, Kageyama has of course been telling his best friend Hinata about his times with Ushi and how nice and reliable Ushi is and how the farm trip went. But then he mentions how after the drank the milk, he felt sick and he's wondering if there's something wrong with him or maybe the milk, but he doesn't want to blame Ushi and that's when Hinata is like, "Wow. You are a boke." and Kags is like, "That's rich coming from you, boke!" So then Hinata has to explain that he thinks Kageyama might have a crush on Ushi and Kageyama denies it. But then Hinata's telling him about how all he talks about is Ushi and volleyball and he said he felt all tingly after Ushi got him milk, but he didn't actually get sick or anything. Kageyama denies it again and is like, "Well, we're on the same volleyball team and he's the only person I knew when I go there, so of course I'm gonna talk about him!" and Hinata is like, "Yeah, okay. Sure. Come back and talk to me when you get your head out of your ass, boke."
Kageyama thinks about it that night and he's like, "Hinata's dumb!" but then he's on the train back to Oita with Ushi and now he's hyperaware of what Hinata said and he's got that tingly feeling in his stomach again and he's like, oh shit. Maybe I do have a crush! which is when he decides to needs to call someone better than Hinata, someone like Sugawara! He calls him up and explains the whole situation and Suga is like, "Oh yeah, you definitely have a crush on Ushijima," and now Kags is like, "So now what? This has never happened before. Do I give him a volleyball or something???" and Suga tells him to just be himself and tell Ushi that he likes him because he thinks that Ushi may like him too. I mean, what else does it mean when a guy invites you to his farm and gives you fresh milk because he knows you like it? So Kags is like, oh shit. Really?! and he thanks Suga for his time and thinks more on how he's going to confess because if there's one thing that Kageyama learned from Tanaka and Noya, it's that confessions gotta be dramatic!
So after ignoring Suga's suggestion to just tell Ushi that he likes him, Kageyama calls up Oikawa to help figure out how to confess. Oikawa just hangs up though, once Ushi gets mentioned, so Kags is like, okay, I guess I'll call Tanaka or Noya then, which then leads to the two of them coming up with some huge convoluted plan for how Kageyama should confess to Ushi.
The day of the confession though, dumb Kags forgets everything that he's supposed to do and say and both Tanaka and Noya are busy, so they aren't answering their phones, so Kags spends all of the morning and practice trying to figure out what the fuck to do. He's walking home with Ushi like usual and he's like surprisingly nervous and since they're close now, Ushi picks up on it and asks him if he's okay. Kags is like, yeah, I'm good! I'm totally good! but he's not totally good because wow. Has Ushijima always looked so pretty at night? Has he always been this concerned about him? How come he never saw it before?! So then they get to Kageyama's place and Ushi is about to go, but then Kageyama stops him and is like, hold up! I gotta tell you something! and Ushi is like ??? and finally Kageyama is all blushy and nervous, but he manages to just directly tell Ushijima that he likes him. But before Ushijima can answer or respond back, Kageyama has opened up his apartment and slammed the door in Ushi's face because holy shit!! He really fucking did that!!! But now, Ushi is confused and knocking at his door and now Kageyama has to deal with that, so reluctantly, he opens the door and invites Ushijima in to talk about it.
Ushi is surprisingly very calm as he sits on Kageyama's couch and sips some water, but after some silence, he finally tells Kageyama that he likes him too and to be honest, it hadn't fully registered for him until Kageyama told confessed just now. All this time, with how close they've gotten and how much Ushi has done for Kags, he thought this was just what friends did, but thinking back, he's never gone this far for anyone before, he's never felt this way about anyone else, so he's come to the conclusion that he likes Kageyama too.
Kageyama is a happy blueberry once again and he's like nvm, this is the best day of my life!! and then he and Ushi kiss, but it's a cute and awkward one because neither of them are really sure of what they're doing. But the next morning, when they walk together to practice, they hold hands and it's super cute and sweet. And yeah, really, not much changes between them immediately, but they slowly start to become more affectionate and open with each other and what they want, but it's also really nice that both of them understand each other so well without having to say anything too.
The following season, Ushi invites Kageyama to move in with him, for convenience is what he says and tells everyone, but Kageyama knows it's out of love and everyone else knows too.

Sooo you got any ushikage hcs?
I’m pretty much making this up as i go. XD I was pretty cool with the ship until recently, i truly fell into it’s hell. Sakukage too, but that’s a story for another time.
The next time they see each other after the match is on a training camp.
The other players on it, expected to get quite scary between the two, and were more or less shooked when they just exchange polite greetings.
On a practice match they get put on the same team, but it doesn’t go all smoothly at the very beggining considering they play next to each other for the first time.
But the problem gets solved quickly, thanks to how blunt they are.“Kageyama, that toss was really low” Que to the rest of the wing spikers freezing in place “Ushijima-san, you’re too slow.” Que to literally everyone else’s jaws dropping.
But neither gets offended?? They just take the criticism, and by the middle of the next set they are in full synchrome.
They obviously win the match, with the super quick attack for the surprise of everyone.
“Holy crap, that’s the first person besides that dumbass to hit it. It was perfect.” “That’s one of the best tosses i’ve gotten in probably, my entire career.”
After that, they continue training together, whenever they get the chance. One of those times, Kageyama decided to try his luck and ask for what’s been refused by Oikawa. He asks Ushijima to help him with his jump serve. The moment Wakatoshi says yes, without thinking twice, Tobio’s face lights up like it’s christams.
That’s what kinda leads to everyone figuring out they train together. After a match, in which Tobio won several points with his serves, which has surpassed the grand king’s in power, and it has nearly as much control, his teammates asked how he improved them so quickly. Child doesn’t look up from his food while simply answering“I train with Ushijima-san, he helped me.” Everyone fell silent, as Tobio just kept eating as if nothing have happened.
They don’t really have much things in common, besides their love for volleyball, but they still somehow find so much things to talk about, casually like they’ve known each other for years. Even if they don’t talk the silence between them is far from uncomfortable, it’s calming.
Ushijima also helps Kageyama study, after all to get in Shiratorizawa you must have really nice grades. Since Tobio is someone who’s capable of learning anything really fast, it’s more than easy. They mostly do it over coffee, or if they feel like it in the park.
But thanks to that, the real trouble comes in the form of Oikawa Tooru. First he saw them train together in the public gym. Several times. Then he saw them talking over coffee. Several times. Then he saw them in the park. Several times. No, he didn’t stalk them, “what are you talking about Iwa-chan.”
He was mostly in denial, but once his brain accepted the fact that his uselessly adorable kouhai could be dating his rival he just. Screamed. Then he somehow, unknown to this very day, sneaked into Ushijima’s house to threaten him. Wakatoshi just stood there completly dumbfounded, he was not aware he was in a relationship of that sort with Tobio. Didn’t sound bad tho. At all.
The next time they saw each other, he mentioned it like it’s nothing “By the way, Oikawa broke into my house to warn me not to hurt your feelings, or he will have my head.” Tobio spit his milk and took a minute to pull himself together before answering. “Why would Oikawa-san warn you about that?” “Well, we are dating, right?” Kageyama choked on air.
After that they talked things over and decided, fuck why the hell not?
Oikawa flipped a table when he found out, it’s all thanks to him.
Their dates are nothing special, except if it’s for a special occasion like an anniversary, then they go to some really nice resturant.
They are not really a couple who shows a lot of physical affection, but watching movies on the couch, Tobio in Wakatoshi’s lap, their fingers intertwined is something that happens often. And slow make out sessions are involed most of the time too.
Ushijima might be amazing in most things, but he’s hopeless in the kitchen. “Wakatoshi…” “Hmm?” “How did you set water on fire?” “Oh, i tried to make tea.”  So, Tobio makes all the food, Wakatoshi not having anything against it, because he loves his cooking.
They move in together once Kageyama finishes high school, he spends most of the time at Ushijima’s anyways. Those two are far from lazy. Their body clocks wakes them up at 5am, everyday and they just take a ran together before getting ready for university.
Did i mention Kageyama gets into Ushijima’s one? Legit power couple on and off the court.
They adopt a dog as well, golden retriever, at first both of them were quite unsure if they would be able to take care of it, but figured if they do it together it will be fine.
And thus a beautiful long-term relationship continues. With a daily dose pf Oikawa Tooru of course.
Thanks for the ask, i really enjoyed coming up with those!

Sometimes I wish Kageyama had gone to shiratorizawa like he'd intended to, if only because of how fucking funny it would've been to have three setters fight to the death to play with Ushijima lol

I like to imagine that after playing in Italy for a while, Kageyama would come back to Japan with an unfortunate habit of greeting friends by kissing their cheeks. He picked it up reluctantly, but after a while it just became second nature. "Let's get it over with" kinda deal.
Except of course, now he's greeting his old teammates by kissing their cheeks before even saying hello, and Ushijima just wanted to ask what he's having for dinner later, not have a gay crisis.
