*slides leosagi fan child towards you*
Now I haven’t decided if I want him to be part of the post-apocalyptic future, or not. He’s actually pretty calm and quite unlike his energetic dads. He simply likes staying outside the spotlight. He proudly wears both of his clans’ emblems on his haori, as well as an artificial plastron his Uncle Donnie made for him as armor.
But regardless, he’s a very skilled swordsman thanks to both of his dads’ training. His main thing is stealth which makes him a bit more lenient to ninja training than samurai (but don’t tell Usagi that). His ninpo manifest as lightning that he can direct with his sword which he named “Rakurai”. (meaning: “lightning strike” according to Google)

Had a couple more episodes of Sailor Moon with LN and Hannah this evening (Barbara remains resolutely uninterested). LN is absolutely loving it and does interpretive dances during the theme music and transformation sequence. Hannah's being weird. She wants to watch it but spends most of the episode whingeing and crying that she wants Sailor Moon dolls (which I have kindly explained to her are just not available now, and no, the figurines in my room are not dolls to play with, they will break), and then shuts up completely and pays attention during transformations and attacks.
They're each their own flavour of neuro spicy, and part of hers, unfortunately, is a tendency to fixate on something she wants (but which isn't available) and whinge about it incessantly. Kind explanations and redirections to things she does or can have are to no avail, she's determined to be miz/can't get her mind off it.
Unless, obviously, Sailor Moon is transforming or attacking.

Sailor Moon Name Meanings: 10 Main Sailor Senshi Edition
Most of the names in Sailor Moon are packed full of meaning, so I've decided to do a series of posts examining each name's etymology! Let's start with the main Sailor Senshi themselves.
Usagi Tsukino: “Rabbit of the Moon”
Usagi’s name is packed full of symbolism, as it directly references the East Asian legend of the “rabbit on the moon.” If you look at the full moon and observe its darker areas contrasted against the white ones, you may see the shape of a rabbit standing over a mortar with a pestle. According to folklore, this rabbit is making anything from the elixir of life to simple mochi.
It’s not just Usagi’s name that references this legend. Her odango hairstyle is meant to resemble rabbit’s ears (although this is far more obvious with Chibiusa), and many of her belongings feature cute pictures of bunnies. Unlike real rabbits though, Usagi hates carrots!
Ami Mizuno: “Asian Beauty of Water”
Time to clear up a misconception I myself have spread in the past. Ami’s name does not mean “Friend of Water,” it actually means “Asian Beauty of Water” according to the kanji in her name. Although Rei is commonly seen as the traditional Japanese beauty of the bunch, Ami isn’t far behind!
Of course, “Water” is a reference to Sailor Mercury’s powers over water and its different forms (ice and gas/fog). Apart from having powers over water, Ami is shown to love water in her civilian life, being an avid swimmer. Finally, Mercury in Japanese is “Suisei,” or “Water Star.”
Rei Hino: “Spirit of Fire”
Rei’s name reflects her status as the most spiritual of the Senshi, being a miko who is capable of using special powers (her psychic and purification powers) even when she’s not transformed. “Spirit of Fire” even brings to mind one of her special abilities, which is divining the future by meditating and staring into flames.
Of course, the “Fire” also references how Sailor Mars is the Senshi of Flames and Passion, being the Sailor Senshi who has mastery over fire. Finally, Mars in Japanese is “Kasei,” or “Fire Star.”
Makoto Kino: “Sincerity of Wood”
“Makoto” can have a number of different meanings, and we don’t 100% for sure know which one Mako’s is because her name is in hiragana. However, the fandom has largely chosen to go with the meaning of “sincerity.” This is a very suitable name for Mako, as she is one of the most sincere and honest characters in the entire series.
“Kino” means “of wood.” Although Sailor Jupiter is commonly associated with electricity, her powers really encompass nature as a whole. In the manga/reboot anime, she has a number of attacks that involve plants. Finally, the Japanese name for Jupiter is “Mokusei,” or “Wood Star.”
Minako Aino: “Beautiful Child of Love”
Minako’s name is very straightforward, being a reference to the mythological goddess Venus- the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Out of all the Senshi, Minako/Sailor Venus by far has the most associations with the deity who is the namesake of their guardian planet. In Codename: Sailor V, she is even outright stated to be the incarnation of the goddess Venus.
Out of all the Senshi, Minako is the only one who does not have a reference to the Japanese name of her planet in her name. In Japanese, “Venus” is called “Kinsei,” which means “Metal Star.” Although this is referenced in her powers (in the manga/reboot anime, Venus uses her metallic chain as well as a sword to attack), the reason why it’s not reflected in her name is probably because she was the very first Sailor Senshi created and Naoko Takeuchi hadn’t hammered out the naming scheme yet.
Chibiusa: “Small Rabbit”
“Chibiusa” is actually a nickname given to the girl when she arrived in the 20th century; her birth name is “Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity.” Introducing herself as “Usagi,” she quickly got the name “Chibiusa” to distinguish her from the first Usagi (who, unbeknownst to her at the time, was her mother). It’s an appropriate nickname, as it basically just means “the smaller Usagi.” The same symbolism behind Usagi’s name applies here as well.
Setsuna Meioh: “Moment Dark King”
“Setsuna” means “moment” or “instant,” which is fitting for a character so heavily associated with time. “Setsuna” also sounds very similar to “setsunai,” which while difficult to get an exact translation of, basically means a strong mix of happiness and sadness. Think nostalgia, bittersweetness, sweet sorrow, etc. Again, this is very fitting for Setsuna, who is noted by other characters to appear slightly sorrowful at all times but still carries out her duties with pride.
“Dark King” is a reference to the Roman god Pluto, the namesake of Sailor Pluto’s guardian planet and the god of the underworld. While Sailor Pluto is most often associated with time, she is also referred to as the “Senshi of the Underworld” and some of her attacks (such as Dead Scream) are related to the underworld. Also, “Dark King” starts a naming convention with the Outer Senshi (sans Hotaru) who all directly reference their planet’s mythological namesakes in their family names.
Haruka Tenoh: Distant Sky King
“Haruka” can have a few different meanings, but our Haruka’s name means “distant” or “far off” (Haruka’s name, like most of the Senshi, is written in hiragana instead of kanji, meaning that its exact meaning is ambiguous). This reflects her initially standoffish, aloof nature and how she first presents herself to the Inner Senshi.
“Sky King” is a reference to the Roman god Uranus, the namesake of Sailor Uranus’s guardian planet and the primordial deity who represents the sky. Sailor Uranus’s powers are related to wind and the sky, making this a fitting tribute.
Michiru Kaioh: Rising Sea King
“Michiru” is a name that has nuance to it. I used “rising” here, but it can also translate to “mature,” “complete,” etc. The impression that “Michiru” gives off is a fulfilment of growth, like hopes that have been nurtured. Of course, this is extremely fitting for our Michiru. Like the rest of the Outer Senshi, she is very mature and is initially further along in her development as a Senshi than the Inners. I also like the term “rising” in particular, as it gives off the imagery of ocean waves as well as hinting that Michiru’s maturation and growth is still ongoing.
“Sea King” is a reference to the Roman god Neptune, the namesake of Sailor Neptune’s guardian planet and the god of the ocean. Sailor Neptune has powers over the sea, making it obvious where Naoko Takeuchi made mythological connections.
Hotaru Tomoe: Firefly Sprouting From Earth
Unlike the other Outer Senshi, whose names have significance from Greek/Roman mythology, Hotaru’s name is rooted in Japanese symbolism. In Japanese folklore, fireflies are thought to be the carriers of the souls of the dead (more specifically, the souls of soldiers who died in war). This is very fitting symbolism for Sailor Saturn, the Senshi of Death and Rebirth; in the manga and Crystal, Hotaru is even shown carrying and guarding the souls of the Inner Senshi. Other symbolism for fireflies is that they are beautiful and burn bright, but are short-lived; this is again fitting for Hotaru in her original life, as her life was doomed to be cut short before she was fortunately reborn.
The ”earth” (as in “dirt,” not the planet Earth) kanji in “Tomoe” is a reference to the planet Saturn, which in Japanese is called the “Earth Star” ("Dosei"). The planet Saturn has been known since ancient times, whereas the planets beyond it were only discovered thanks to modern telescopes. This is reflected in their Japanese names, as Saturn follows the traditional Japanese planet naming scheme of “element + star” whereas Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are named following the same Roman mythological naming convention that Western astronomers used (“Neptune” being “Sea King Star,” etc).

More Addams! AU thingz bc I'm so. Neurodivergent
Specifically this post is around Usagi! He is in fact a character in the AU! He is a few months older then Leo (both are 16), and is disgraced/disowned from his clan and family! I'll share more about him as we go ;]]]]

I wanna specify that Leosagi in this AU is VERY MUCH not healthy, but their dynamic changes a lot from Usagi being vocally disdainful of Leo to. Well, Codependent. So even if I am drawing them being 'affectionate', keep in mind that they aren't something to aspire to be! They are very toxic!!!!
T-CEST DNI! I HOPE YOU SHOVE A FORK IN AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET GET AWAY FROM MY AU

these came to me in a dream
there is a thought process behind every single one of my choices and it’s under the cut
Sonic - Sailor Moon - duh, this is sonic and sailor moon were talking abt
Tails - Sailor Mercury - both r very smart and technologically advanced lol
Knuckles - Sailor Mars - red. also bc usagi and rei (moon and mars respectively) r rlly big rivals lmao
Amy - Sailor Venus - they have VERY similar personalities, she’s besties w jupiter, minako (venus) wants to be an idol rlly bad and amy has that energy
Metal Sonic - Sailor Jupiter - both have electricity related to them, Metal Sonic + Amy r besties just like Jupiter and Venus cmon you know it’s true, also bc Jupiter is known for her unfathomable strength similar to how Metal is unfathomably strong in reference to sonic bc. yk.
Shadow - Sailor Saturn - THIS IS RLLY RLLY RLLY FLESHED OUT IN MY HEAD SINCE THEYRE BOTH MY FAVORITES LOL, both r seen as “ultimate lifeforms” in a way, shadow being in cryosleep for years and saturn being “forbidden to awaken due to her being the soldier of death”, hotaru and shadow were both in some way scientifically created, hotaru and shadow r both the children of (mad) scientists, shadow being gerald and hotaru being PROFESSOR FUCKING TOMOE, both had a rlly traumatic event alter the course of their life, and both died tragically, were reborn, and have a found family after being reborn, shadow being team dark and saturn being uranus neptune and pluto
Rouge - Sailor Uranus - rouge arguably COULD have been neptune but she lacks the grace that neptune has , and i feel like overall she suits uranus waaay more
Silver - Sailor Pluto - pluto is the soldier of fucking time why do you think she’s silver
Blaze - Sailor Neptune - blaze has that grace that rouge kinda lacks in regards to neptune, plus blaze and neptune r rlly similar in vibes, and i think it would be ironic to see blaze do a deep submerge lol
i am insane

Summary: Leo doesn't regret his choices to safe Donnie from Bishop, it just means a longer recovery for everyone involved.
Enjoy :)
Leo doesn’t regret his decision.
Donnie had been missing for a week, a week of no contact, a week of frantic searches, and a week of desperate calls to every friend and enemy they had ever encountered. They spared no expense in their efforts to find him, but it was almost a slap in the face to find that Donnie had been so close to them all along - he hadn’t even been taken out of New York. The sudden burst of Donnie’s mystic energy, coordinates and maps tracing to his exact location had been a source of relief and frustration as they mobilized and moved out.
Leo doesn’t regret moving when he did.
Raph and Mikey were holding down the lower levels of the base, guaranteeing their escape route since their abilities were dampened by whatever that mad scientist Bishop had cooked up. Leo was in charge of the extraction of their brother since he was by far the fastest and they were relying on the element of surprise here. Someone who’d been able to take down Donnie without their knowledge wasn’t someone they were taking lightly. Whatever Bishop had installed in the building had disabled most of their mystic powers, he can’t even risk using his portals if he didn’t want to lose a limb.
That doesn’t matter, he didn’t need mystic powers. He would tear this building apart with his bare hands if that meant he’d get his brother back safe. Faceless scientists run screaming past him, those who attempt to stop his progression are swiftly taken care of. Whether or not those rebuffs are nonlethal doesn’t matter, what does matter is that he’s reached the main lab. Kendra had shown him the blueprints, this entire floor was a blackout but he could assume it followed the general path that the previous labs had. As he bounds up the stairwell - and enters the open floor plan, every sense screams to high alert.
Even though Kendra was controlling every electrical aspect to the lab, this floor only had emergency lights. Even with the low glow of bulbs placed too far apart Leo’s senses are overwhelmed. There’s too much. Wires sparking from where they’d been torn from the wall blood on the floor static from a radio system now defunct thanks to Kendra’s interference blood on the wall his brother's blood everywhere. It reeks of iron and metal and sickness and despite the nausea curling in his gut Leo doesn’t hesitate to sprint forward because there’s his fucking brother.
Leo doesn’t regret throwing himself directly into the path of danger despite every time he’s been told to stop being such a self sacrificial idiot.
Donnie is crumpled near some sort of shadowed metal robot. Leo can’t quite make out the details with the intermittent flicker from the emergency lights, but it doesn’t matter as he darts across the length of the lab. He couldn’t see any humans in this room, something that made his scales itch with paranoia as he searched the dark corners of the lab for movement but he can’t afford to waste his attention on the absence of a being when what he came for is right in front of him. As he’s almost to Donnie, the robot his brother is kneeled in front of activates with a flash of red and a creaking of metal.
Leo regrets not moving faster.
There’s a blankness in Donnie’s gaze that makes Leo’s heart clench as the softshell staggers to his feet, clearly exhausted and with blood dripping from a number of wounds. Despite standing, he sways and Leo can see that Donnie doesn’t or maybe can’t register the danger directly to his right. Leo can’t tell if Donnie even recognizes him.
“Donnie! Move! ” Leo screams, finally getting in range of his brother, but it’s still not enough. There’s a red light shining over the both of them, a warning burst of heat just as Leo wraps his left arm around Donnie’s shell and uses his momentum to shove them both out of the way. The blaze that wraps around Leo’s shell and scorches his arm clean off is so sudden that he doesn’t register what had happened until Donnie is on the floor beneath him. Pain radiates from the remains of his arm and he gasps through clenched teeth as he takes in Donnie’s uncomprehending stare and the blood slowly seeping from the partially cauterized remains of the softshell's left arm. Leo slams his panic button as he takes in the physical wounds Donnie had suffered over the past week.
“You gotta keep your eyes open for me, we gotta wait for Raph, no passin' out yet.” Leo pants desperately, trying to follow his own order as he practically collapses over Donnie, "Is anyone still here?”
Donnie’s eyes flicker open, and Leo follows the path of his gaze up to where he recognizes an observational balcony. Leo didn't see it before in his desperation to grab Donnie, but there’s an outline of a man holding some sort of control panel. Bishop. Leo’s grip on Donnie’s shoulder tightens, but the human makes no move towards and instead sinks into the shadows where Leo couldn’t follow. The building shakes and Leo tries to lift Donnie, but it’s useless with the weakness that has filled his limbs. Pounding footsteps reach his ears and Leo turns to see Raph emerge from the same stairwell he had run up just moments earlier.
“Leo, Donnie!” Raph’s voice is frantic as he runs into the room. Leo feels his muscles going limp despite his best efforts to remain conscious as their older brother scoops them both up, then punches the machine to destroy the glass embedded in the robot that had nearly killed them both. The floor splinters beneath their feet and Raph wastes no time making their escape.
Leo regrets not being able to stay conscious during the destruction of the lab. He would’ve liked to revel in the downfall of one of Bishop’s pride and joys.
Waking up in the med bay was unfortunately a familiar experience for Leo. The steady beep of a heart monitor - although it was doubled for some reason, the scent of antiseptic, and the herculean effort it took to pry open his eyelids.
The light was nearly blinding as he tilted his head to the side, registering the flow of drugs from the IV drip making his limbs feel heavy and grimacing at the dryness of his mouth. Mikey was sitting in a chair at his bedside, and at his movement the box turtle leaps up and grips the bars to the bed.
“Leo! Are you awake?”
Leo can’t do much more than click in response, already wanting to go back to sleep but the stress in Mikey’s expression keeps him conscious. How long had he been out for Mikey to look so concerned? What had even happened this time? What were they all doing before…
“Here, I’ve got some water for ya,” Mikey says quickly, grabbing a cup and urging Leo to drink, “Do you want-”
“Donnie?!” Leo interrupts, voice rough as the memory of his brother, bloody and bruised, surfaces. He realizes through the sludge of the painkillers that he’d managed to grab Mikey’s hand before he could help him with the water and his grip was trembling as he searched Mikey’s face for answers. “Is he here? Is he ok?”
“Donnie’s fine,” Mikey reassures, pointing over Leo’s shoulder, “look he’s right there.” At Mikey’s gesture Leo lets his head fall to the other side and can see Donnie laying flat on his plastron still passed out. That nausea swirls again at the sight of all the bandages and wires that seemed to mirror what was hooked up to Leo so he tilts back towards Mikey with a small sigh of relief.
“Does Yuichi know?” He asks after he takes a few sips of blessedly cool water and can talk without it feeling like his throat is being carved to pieces.
“Can you worry about yourself for two seconds Leo?” Mikey murmurs miserably as he fidgets with Leo's blankets, “What do you remember? Raph didn’t see what happened and Kendra couldn’t pull cameras since Bishop had everything disabled on that floor.”
“I had to get Donnie out of the way,” Leo replies with a frown, “If I didn’t then…” It all hits him at once. The scene in the lab, the blood, the pain of a part of him being rendered from existence. He rolls his gaze down to his right arm, feeling an odd choking feeling overtake him as he realizes that his arm ends at the bicep, wrapped tightly in stark white bandages.
“Bishop had built something, I couldn’t see all of it since the power had been cut to most of the lab, but Donnie had just been left there. When I was trying to get to him, it lit up and I realized…” He trails off, swallowing hard as he recalls the sharp angles and the alien features of the robot, a shape that had often haunted nightmares, “If I didn’t get him out of the way, then he would’ve-” his words are cut off by his own choked sob. He’d been so close to losing his brother. Donnie was so close to being gone because of some stupid fucking scientist.
“Ok ok I got it,” Mikey quickly says, trying to calm the rising heart rate of his older brother and prevent those pained noises from escalating.
“You gotta tell Yuichi, Mikey you gotta call him, it’s been a week he’s probably worried sick, ” Leo gasps, tightening his grip on Mikey’s arm. The guilt of unintentionally keeping Yuichi in the dark was eating at every ounce of air in his chest.
“I will, I’ll get Raph to do it right now ok?” promises replies, holding onto Leo’s hand with both of his until he can feel Leo’s grip loosening and can see his eyelids fluttering.
“Okay,” Leo mumbles, the burst of energy leaving him as quickly as it had arrived. “Mikey imma sleep now ‘kay?”
“That’s fine Leo, rest up,” Mikey whispers, patting Leo’s hand as the slider relaxes and almost instantly falls back asleep. Mikey breathes a sigh of relief once he’s sure Leo’s under then sends a text to Raph.
-------
Yuichi knew that it wasn’t necessarily uncommon for Leo to go radio silent on missions, it came with the territory of keeping the world safe. However, it’d been a week at this point and with the abruptness of Leo’s departure, he was anxiously pacing the length of his room and overthinking everything that could’ve gone wrong. It had become his habit within the week, spending his downtime in this way but the routine is interrupted when his phone begins buzzing.
He leaps at where it had been set on his bedside table, dropping it on the floor once before he manages to hold onto it, seeing Leo’s caller ID and nearly crying with relief.
“Leo! It’s been a week, are you ok? What happened to Donnie?” He rattles off once he answers, clutching his phone up to his ear and holding his breath for the response.
There’s a beat of silence before Raph replies.
“Hey Usagi, I don’t want you freaking out ok?” Raph greets gently, “I’m gonna tell you what happened and then Mikey’s gonna bring you over here.”
“What went wrong? Is Leo hurt?” Usagi questions anxiously, feeling his phone beginning to creak with how tightly he was holding it. All of the worst case scenarios he’d been considering claw their way to the forefront of his mind.
“Leo and Donnie were both seriously injured in the escape from the lab that Donnie was being held in, but they’re both alive and recovering,” Raph reports, “Leo’s been in and out of consciousness for the past day and he just woke up for longer than just a few minutes. He’s been asking for you. Are you ok to come over?”
“Yes yes of course,” Usagi replies quickly, darting around to grab his katana and tug on his shoes, “Get me over there.”
A golden portal opens in front of him as he’s pocketing his phone and Usagi doesn’t hesitate to step through. Once the spots clear from his vision he sees that Mikey had pulled him into the atrium of their lair, both Mikey and Raph waiting for him. He can see the exhaustion in their expressions and it makes the anxiety that had been simmering begin to boil over.
“Where is he?” Usagi demands, dropping his katana onto the nearest empty surface and flicking his ears to see if he can catch any sound of the slider. He can hear the slightly raised heartbeats of the brothers in front of him before he catches the steady electrical beeps further into the lair.
“I’ll take you to him,” Mikey says, raising his hands in a placating gesture, “He’s still kind of out of it from the painkillers, but he’s been asking about you since he woke up.”
Usagi knows that’s supposed to reassure him but it just makes his heart beat harder as he follows Mikey to the medical bay. He’s seen Leo hurt before, but it was very rare that he or any of the brothers had to be completely hospitalized. Their healing factors often kicked in before it was needed, so the thought of both of them being injured badly enough to need serious painkillers was nerve wracking. Since Donnie was on the far side of the room, Usagi’s gaze catches on the softshell before he fully enters and turns to see Leo.
He’s not sure what to look at first, eyes flickering from the bruises under Leo’s eyes to the bandages wrapping around his upper chest and his right arm - his right arm that was gone from the elbow down. He can’t help his gasp, moving quickly to Leo’s bedside. Leo opens his eyes at the vocalization, gaze taking a moment to focus before he smiles gently.
“Yuichi,” He says, voice soft but clearly rough from disuse as Usagi scans the lines of IV’s and wires before leaning over and cradling Leo’s head. He wraps his arms as gently as he could, tucking Leo’s head against his own as he whispers his name. He waits until he can hear the steadiness of Leo’s heartbeat before he takes a shuddered breath and shifts to hide his face against Leo.
“‘Chi?” Leo inquires, drawing back a bit as he can feel the heat of Yuichi’s tears against the side of his neck.
Yuichi moves back just enough to meet Leo’s eyes as he bites back the angry choking thing that wants to scream about unfairness and instead presses his cheek against Leo’s, seeing the tears budding in the slider’s eyes.
“Don’t you dare do this again,” He whispers fiercely, “Next time you leave, I’m coming with you.” He can feel Leo’s tears mingling with his own, and it takes only a tilt of his head to connect the two of them in a kiss. Usagi would normally worry about the fact that Leo’s brothers were likely still nearby, and would be concerned if Leo was in any pain with the proximity, but all he can think about is how he nearly lost the slider and he would’ve only known when his brothers had been able to contact him. He curls the fingers he has cradling the back of Leo’s neck, feeling the slider sigh into his mouth before he pulls back and searches out Yuichi’s hand with his remaining one. Once their fingers are intertwined, Leo visibly relaxes.
“I won’t Yuichi, promise.”
“Damn straight,” Yuichi says firmly, “And if you think I’m leaving anytime in the near future you’d be sorely mistaken.”
“Well the angle you’re standing at doesn’t look comfortable,” Leo offers quietly, “Care to join me?”
Yuichi frowns at the number of wires that Leo was connected to before carefully arranging himself on the bed beside Leo. He can feel the tension fade as he carefully tangles their legs and props his head against the side of Leo’s. The slider melts into his side, sighing in comfort and it brings Usagi back to many of their sleepovers. If there wasn’t the scent of antiseptic and the sounds of heart rate monitors, he’d be able to pretend that it was just another night after coming back from a mission. The sleepless nights spent worrying over Leo’s condition catch up to him, and he allows himself to rest with Leo tucked into his arms.
-------
Kendra had seen a lot in her time. Being a teenage hacker often meant seeing things that she really wasn’t supposed to. Sometimes it was what the neighbors Tuesday afternoon drunken parties entailed, sometimes it was the ledgers of foreign governments and lists of experiments that were far from ethical.
Helping two of the Hamato’s through their amputations? That was new. She can’t help but thank her instinct to pursue medicine (sure it was veterinary medicine but it had helped them out here hadn’t it?) as she clears away the materials she’d used for stitches.
She wasn’t sure what to think when she was first contacted about Donatello being missing. It seemed that the Hamato’s had just been going through each of Donnie’s contacts to see if they’d heard anything. She wasn’t sure if she was surprised that she was one of the first on his list since she was contacted mere hours after his disappearance, but she was not ashamed to admit that she threw herself back into her computer hacking days to provide her services.
It was odd, returning to watching cameras and scanning security footage for any signs of the freakishly large turtle instead of attending to her much more morally correct job of a veterinarian. When Donnie’s systems finally pinged his location and the brothers had ran in yelling about his mystic energy, she remained as the “woman in the chair” despite every instinct to strap on one of Donnie’s battleshells and join the fight herself.
She watched through security cameras while she remotely detonated the lab’s systems - reveling in the panic on the scientists faces as they realized that rooms were locked and sirens were growing louder thanks to her call to every station in the area regarding illegal experimentation and unauthorized lab usage. They wouldn’t be able to access the building until she opened the doors, but it was good to rile them up. The building would be going down regardless thanks to April and Casey’s actions to rig the foundations with Purple Dragon grade explosives. She had already evacuated nearby blocks, the only danger was to those that had chosen to imprison and experiment on Donnie and whatever other poor mutants Bishop had gotten his slimy hands on. Unfortunately the only area she wasn’t able to see, much to her and everyone else’s frustration, was the lab that Donnie was being kept in.
This means that the only thing she sees when the battle ends is Leo and Donnie being carried out by Raph before she loses access to her systems as the cameras explode into a golden light. Whatever Raph had done to that lab had disabled what was hindering their powers then if Mikey was able to begin the detonation process. She hurries to the med bay, keeping her panic tucked away as the blood that had been trailing the trio flickers through her mind. There’s another flash of golden light just as she’s set up the beds and the brothers appear through Mikey’s portal.
She still doesn’t allow herself to panic as she helps with the surgery, an odd mix of modern medicine and magic keeping the two brothers alive and stable until she steps back and deems it all they can do for the moment. Through numb lips she explains the aftercare and the Hamato’s set up schedules and watches. She should be surprised that she’s included in these, but she also knows that the only way she’s leaving Donnie’s side is if she’s dragged out. Well, after she scrubs their blood from her clothes anyway. She borrows some of Donnie’s while hers are being treated, drawing comfort in the too large hoodie as she sets up post beside Donnie’s bed.
Leo wakes up first, unsurprising since he hadn’t been locked away for a week in a psychopath's care. Their healing factor has clearly kicked in as within a day Leo is taken off the heavy painkillers and requests to move back to his room. Kendra tries not to be impatient as she routinely checks on the stitches, monitoring for infection between her shifts with Donnie. The brothers regularly switched off with Kendra - barring Leo since he was bed bound - but Kendra insisted on spending as much time as possible with Donnie. He should be waking up soon after all and if she didn’t get to tell that stupid idiot her true feelings she’s going to lose it.
It’s late on day two when she hears movement, glancing over to see Donnie’s eyes open wide and staring at her uncomprehending. She freezes, staring back and not even daring to blink as she waits for understanding to wash over Donatello’s expression.
It doesn’t.
Instead he snarls, lips drawing back to expose sharp teeth and she scrambles to press the call button (more of a localized panic button for the med bay) before Donatello tries to sit up, becoming off balance and falling to his side as he tries to balance with an arm he doesn’t have. “You’ll hurt yourself,” Kendra barks, hands going to help him sit up when he snaps at her arms, then hissing a warning when she doesn’t immediately draw back. She is so not qualified to deal with a hostile mutant turtle who had probably been through an excess of uncertified medical procedures over the past week if his injuries were anything to go by. Thankfully she doesn’t have to worry about her hand being bitten off as Raph and Mikey come running in.
She backs off, only so that Donnie doesn’t feel overwhelmed and becomes more violent, but remains in eyesight in case he tries to rip out the IV’s. Mikey does disconnect the heart monitor since its high-pitched scream was doing none of them any favors and she could see how quickly Donnie relaxed at the quiet. It still clearly takes a moment for him to recognize where he was and who was around him with his brothers reassurances the only reason he’s willing to settle back onto the bed with a low whine. Kendra steps in, quickly checking fluids and changing out the painkillers since they were low. She can see the concern on both Mikey and Raph’s expressions, but completes everything clinically before returning to her spot at his bedside.
“You can leave now, I can handle it,” She says only a bit harshly. It was true, she’s sure she can handle whatever reaction Donnie may have now that he’s aware of where he is. She knew the dangers of an unfamiliar face attempting to administer care, but now Donnie could see her and understood why he was hooked up to the various equipment. She had no concerns about her safety.
“If you’re sure…” Raph says hesitantly, “You know how to get a hold of us.”
“Yep, now go back to bed, you two are dead on your feet,” Kendra says, trying to be cold but it’s difficult when all she can do is trace the bandages wrapping Donatello’s shell. She hears the brothers leave and heaves a sigh of relief. From the glaze over Donnie’s eyes, she can tell the painkillers have a hold on him but she can't help but slowly reach out to grasp his left hand.
“I know you’re probably loopy because those are high grade as shit,” She starts quietly, “But if I don’t get this off my chest before you fall asleep again I think I’ll actually lose my mind.”
Donnie blinks slowly at her.
“You’re an idiot,” She whispers harshly, “You scared the hell out of us you know? You scared the hell out of me.” She squeezes his hand, feeling him squeeze back before she can force herself to continue. “You know I didn’t even realize it until your brothers called me, but I care about you. I care about you, the guy who humiliated me every chance he could get, the dumb turtle who put a stop to a whole ass alien invasion, and the absolute dickhead who got kidnapped and hurt by an actually crazy scientist and leaving me behind.”
She doesn’t know when she started crying.
“You’re really making me say it, Donatello Hamato, but I like you, and if anything - I mean anything - happens to you again? I’m going to kill whoever did it with my bare hands.”
She’s not sure if Donnie understands, but she can see the corner of his lips quirk slightly before his eyes slip shut and he stills. His breaths become deep with sleep but his hand still remains firmly grasped in Kendra’s. She doesn’t let go until Mikey comes in to take over.
-------
A week goes by in silence. Not from all of the Hamato’s, Kendra doesn’t think it’d be possible for them to be quiet for more than ten seconds. No. Donatello has not said a single word, or even made a noise of discomfort since he’d first woken up. He rarely even signs, much to the disappointment and worry of his brothers. He doesn’t ask for food or water, although they’re brought to him anyway, and he remains in his room nestled under his blankets and only moves when absolutely necessary. Despondent is the word that immediately springs to Kendra’s mind and she hates it.
They retain their rotating shifts, although Kendra takes as many of them as she can. The last thing Donnie needs is an interrogation from his family, since it’s clear that he’s still gathering his thoughts over what had happened to him and shows discomfort any time his brothers try to remain alone with him. She justifies her veterinary knowledge, but she can also see Mikey whispering to Raph whenever the older brother looks like he’s going to protest. Thank whatever pizza thing they worship for the younger brother’s empathy. Kendra sets up a cot that Donnie had in his lab and sleeps across the room when she can.
This is how she knows Donnie’s having a nightmare almost exactly a week after he’d moved back into his room.
He didn’t sleep very often, fiddling at all hours with some form of tech since he had to avoid screens with his head injury or pretending to sleep as he laid on top of the mattress. Kendra’s relief at his breaths finally evening out is short lived as a few hours after he slipped under she hears him begin to thrash, then cries out in pain as he aggravates the wounds on his shell. She’s out of the cot and onto his bed in seconds, cupping her hands gently onto his face and tapping gently at his cheeks. His eyes snap open and for a moment she wonders if she’s going to lose a finger or two before clarity comes to his vision. For the first time in a week she feels like he recognizes her.
She finds herself wrapped in an embrace, a surprising development but not one she’s going to take lightly as she feels Donnie trembling against her. She squeezes, not enough to hurt but enough to ground as Donnie’s forehead falls heavy to her shoulder. The two of them sit there, Kendra gently rubbing Donnie’s shell until she feels his breath hitch.
“He…made a control panel…like the technodrome…” His voice is raspy from disuse and Kendra almost wants to stop him so he could get a drink or something, but she also understands that this is important both for Donatello to say and for her to hear. Regardless of how sick the thought of hearing what caused these wounds makes her feel.
“Or…tried to…’t was…nothing like her…”
Kendra recalls the ship that had hovered over New York. She thinks of its size and the terror it struck into its citizens. She couldn’t imagine anyone willingly recreating that, this Bishop Bastard was even worse than she thought. Mikey had told them a bit about how the ship had been controlled - access directly to the nervous system as far as they could tell. One sleepless night Donnie had even described what it had felt like to control the ship, Kendra never forgot the almost melancholic expression on his face as he recalled connecting to it.
“There was no synergy…just pain…it tried to control…it tried to take…take… take ….” The anguish in Donnie’s voice has Kendra holding him all the tighter, burying her face in his shoulder in the only way she could try to comfort. The words are spilling out of him now, faster and every word sounds worse as he explains in fractured segments what Bishop had done.
“...I felt violated …it tried to control me even though it was supposed to be controlled. Bishop was furious…he didn’t understand why it wasn’t working…” Donnie let out a broken laugh, “took it out on me…but it was nothing compared to it…nausea got worse…every time I was hooked up to it…”
She can feel him shudder at the memory and she squeezes him the best she can, hoping that the weight of her against him was helping to keep him grounded as he continued talking.
“He kept upgrading it…and connecting me to it…” He pauses, exhaling hard and coughing a bit as he does so, “It noticed too late when I took control...That’s how I got the signal out. You already know the rest…”
Kendra can feel that he’s done, the way he slumps against her and the ragged breathing as he attempts to reign in his thoughts. She’s never been great at comforting people in the conventional sense, but she has a feeling she can share what she was feeling about the whole situation.
“What an absolute shithead.”
She feels him jolt in surprise before he snorts, finally finally returning her hold and tugging her closer to him as he laughs. It’s the best sound  she’s ever heard.
“Yeah, he really was an absolute dick! A real piece of work, shit from the sewers!” Donnie manages to choke out between chuckles and Kendra can’t help but lean into his laughter.
“So just to make sure I wasn’t just high on painkillers…you did say you liked me right?” Donnie murmurs after they’d both calmed down enough to lay comfortably on the bed. Donnie doesn’t let Kendra go, drawing comfort in her warmth as she messes absently with his hand. She pressed her palm against his own, twining and untwining their fingers until he spoke - then she abruptly dropped his hand.
Kendra groans, rolling over to hide her face against the mattress despite their tangled legs keeping her mostly facing Donnie, “Yes, yes unfortunately I did.”
“What was that? Could you repeat it?” Donnie asks cheekily, laughing again when Kendra lifts her face from the mattress to scowl at him.
“Yes! I did! Got a problem with it ?”
Donnie’s face is priceless, shifting from teasing to blushing in a way that makes Kendra smirk victoriously as she gently rubs his arm.
“I…suppose…I like you too,” Donnie manages to stutter out.
“You tell anyone I got mushy like that and I’ll strangle you,” Kendra mutters.
Donnie barks out a laugh, “Wouldn’t dream of it Kendra.”
Kendra knows deep down that this isn’t over. Bishop was still out there, a destroyed lab surely wouldn’t keep him down for long. For the moment however, she’s going to enjoy Donnie’s warm embrace and do what she can to help him feel safe even if that means tearing down the bastard herself.

Sailor Moon & Nakshatras
I thought it'd be interesting to correlate the different Sailor Moons and their powers with the themes that are present in different nakshatras.
This is a super low effort post so all of it is just speculation and I'd love it if you guys told me what you associate with the different Senshi.
Other than Sailor Moon herself, there are 9 sailor senshi who protect the solar system.
Sailor Moon
Tumblr media
A crystalline object which provides her basic power, contains limitless power and is the source of all energy in the universe. She can call upon her future self to use the power of both the future and present crystal to double its power.
she's the only one who has no power of her own and has to rely on some object so i guess that makes her Moon dominant??
Sailor Mercury
Tumblr media
Sailor Mercury has the power to create and manipulate water. For the entire first story arc, she uses her water-manipulating capabilities only to create solid and dense clouds of mist and fog, chilling and blinding the enemy while her allies prepare more direct attacks
this is actually super on brand Mercury behaviour
Sailor Venus
Tumblr media
I feel like Sailor Venus has more powers than other senshi??
It includes: Flight, Magic, Transformation, Longevity, Immortality (Type 4), Limited Shapeshifting, Teleportation, Forcefield, Light Manipulation, Energy Manipulation, Energy Projection, Weather Manipulation, Electricity Manipulation, Data Manipulation, Creation, Reincarnation (Overtime not applicable in battle), Can Survive in Space, Resistance to Mind Manipulation, Death Manipulation, Existence Erasure, Gravity Manipulation, Radiation Manipulation, Poison Manipulation, Power Nullification, Resistances to Status Effect Inducement and Soul Manipulation, Resistance to Telekinesis etc
idk if this is Venus' "being better than others" theme lol but i feel like these are powers that belong to all 27 naks and not just Venus
Sailor Mars
Tumblr media
Precognition: Rei is shown to have strong precognition, where she can make full use of this ability to predict events from the near future, but it can fail sometimes.
Pyromancy: Rei is also shown to have a great affinity with fire, to the point where she is capable to manifest her future sights by forming images on the flames. The images are very enigmatic and unreliable.
Purification: Even when she is in her civilian form, she can use her "ofuda" (a Shinto talisman used to protect homes from evil spirits) to "exorcize" people, while yelling "Evil Spirit, Disperse!" (although it can cause normal people to faint, as shown in episode 10 when she tried to "purify" Usagi).
Sixth Sense: Rei is sometimes shown to have a "sixth sense", using it to detect "evil presences" and approaching danger, as shown in Chapter 6 of Codename: Sailor V manga, but it can fail sometimes when she mistook Usagi for an evil spirit.
Expert Archer: As a Shrine Priestess, she is an expert archer, and this potential is shown in her "Mars Flame Sniper" attack.
these are a variety of powers that don't really all connect to Mars energy, it's giving strong Venus & Jupiter vibes tbh
i associate the purification, pyromancy and precognitive abilities with Venus and the sixth sense, expert archer ones with Jupiter
Sailor Jupiter
Tumblr media
Electrokinesis, martial arts, longevity, and "emphasized superhuman strength"
these powers are a bit random, i guess the author wanted to emphasize martial arts and physical strength with the masculine grahas but I get more Mars and Sun vibes ngl
Sailor Saturn
Tumblr media
Daughter of a possessed mad scientist, a terrible lab accident in her youth significantly compromised her constitution. After overcoming the darkness that has surrounded her family, she is able to become the Soldier of Silence, Sailor Saturn. She wields forces of destruction so powerful that she is rarely called upon to use them, and unlike the others, her Senshi and civilian personae seem somewhat disconnected. She is often pensive, and as a human has the inexplicable power to heal others.
this backstory is in itself very Saturnian and I think Saturnians do suffer a lot of abuse and injustice in their lives. So all Saturn naks like UBP, Anuradha & Pushya
Sailor Pluto
Tumblr media
Manipulation and control of spacetime, Time Wave Generation Teleport others over short or vast distances. Open rifts or doorways in space through different eras Freeze all of time (forbidden) Erect a shield of time-space energy
i mean it goes without saying but this is literally Punarvasu & Swati. both these naks have themes of space and time travel
Sailor Uranus
Tumblr media
she possesses powers associated with the wind and sky, precognition, as well as sword combat.
this is giving me Mars & Venus energy, more specifically Bharani as it is a Venusian nakshatra in the Mars ruled rashi of Aries
Sailor Neptune
Tumblr media
exceptionally strong psychic abilities and is the only Outer Scout who has such powers and she can channel the power of the ocean.
I associate Neptune's abilities with Pisces (neptune rules pisces so this is a no brainer) and I connect it to PBP, UBP & Revati

Risk It All (22) - Don’t lie, We aren’t friends.
Tumblr media
Genre: Chishiya x F! Reader, smut, angst.
Warning: mentions of abuse starting from “you don’t so someone has to.” You can skip this by jumping to “you watch his face as tears flood your own.”
A/N: I’m sorry to leave it on a cliff hanger 😭 I’ll write the other chapter up today/tomorrow for y’all 😭
Ch.21| Masterlist| Ch.23
Tumblr media
“I care about you too.” You whispered, your heart racketing against your chest. “I really do Chishiya.”
He pressed his forehead against yours for a moment longer, his breath heavy. “Let’s go.”
“Okay, where?” You asked, stepping back as he released your shoulders.
“There are a few stores a little further out, we could walk to the edge of the games, it’s likely the shooter won’t come that far out we will have to take back roads, we could stop in the house to gather whatever is there. Anything else we will get on the way.” You watch as he packs up the medical gear back into the small pouch of the backpack. “Are you okay to walk?”
“I’m yeah, fine.” You mumble, the pain slightly kicking in. “We can take the road behind the church a few minutes away, my dad took us a few times as kids.”
He looked at you almost as if analysing your opinion before nodding his head, slipping the straps over his shoulders. “You never talk about your dad.”
“You never ask. Besides what’s the reason for telling a story that holds no good.” You shrugged, regretting it instantly as your arm roared in a dull pain.
“Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that, don’t move too much and you shouldn’t have any pain.” He chuckles.
“You couldn’t have mentioned that before?” You hiss, cradling your arm.
His gaze is empty. “I could have I just didn’t, besides I didn’t realise I had to state the obvious. Stay here and let me check outside.”
“Whatever.” You groan, resting carefully against the wall.
You watch as he ducks his head outside the emergency exit, the electricity somehow disabling the noise of the alarm usually accompanied with the opening of the fire door. “It’s clear we can go just stay low and be quiet until we are a little further out.”
You watch the floor as you walk over to him, slipping out of the ajar door. “Do you think he is near?”
“I doubt it. There are no rules he can go whenever he wants, he is probably looking for the most populated area. The only way to stop him is to probably kill him but with all those guns it seems impossible.”
The faint sounds of gunshots linger in the air, the city smelling lightly of iron, of blood. “So what we head back to the house and then mountain climb? I think Usagi would be a better fit for that. Don’t you think we should find everyone else first?”
“That would be pointless. We would have to go back to the city and we would put ourselves and everyone else in danger to try and find them. Being in a group bigger than 2 is a risk, even us being together is a risk.” He explained, although his eyes were trained on the plainest of things such as the overgrown greenery or the rocks beneath his feet it was easy to see he was aware of everything. Anticipating the worst with every step.
“I guess you’re right, I just worry. Do you think they are okay?”
“How am I supposed to know, I couldn’t really care.” He shrugs, frowning.
“Seriously why are you such an asshole? I refuse to believe you were born like this.” You huff, kicking a stone at him. Regardless of the childishness of the action, you felt it was very much deserved.
“Because the world isn’t as good as you like to believe it is, you have misplaced hope.” He laughs lowly, shaking his head In bemusement. “It’s adorable actually.”
“I would take that as a compliment if It didn’t sound so condescending. The world has good you just have to know where to find it.”
“If the world is so good why isn’t your sister with you?”
You don’t know when you started crying but you felt the tears fall, the sentence enough to cause you more pain than a gunshot ever could. “Fuck you.”
“Oh come on don’t tell me THAT's what gets you upset.”
“You have no right to talk about her.”
“Well, you don’t so someone has to.”
“You fucking asshole. If you want to know so bad then it’s because she was different, she was blind and because of that, my father killed her. He hated her, hated that she was so independent despite her difference. My mother moved away when we were kids because she was tired of my dad hitting her, she couldn’t take us so she got another job in another country and left us behind. I tried to protect my sister but I couldn’t. One day he had too much to drink and within seconds he turned. He started hitting everything, there was glass everywhere. My sister was trying to protect me from him but he pulled her down the stairs. She slipped on a piece of glass and it killed her instantly. She didn’t have a moment of freedom from him. They ruled her death as an accident due to her blindness. He got away with a suspended year-long sentence for abuse. I left straight after and tried to live a good life, to honour her and to see the good in every moment of darkness just like she was for me. So yes I believe there is good in the world Chishiya because someone like my sister existed. Someone who despite facing the worst every single day came through it with a smile on her face.” You pulled out the necklace that had once belonged to her. “This is all I have of her, this is all that’s left of my family.”
You watch his face as tears flood your own. Maybe it was the blurry vision you had but for a second it almost seemed as if he was sad for you, upset. His eyebrows furrowed in shock. “That’s… quite the story.”
You realised then you’d given him exactly what he had wanted, you’d told him everything about the worst you’d been through. You knew he was smart but to trick you into talking about it was something else. “You did that on purpose.”
He laughed, nodding. “You are starting to understand me more.”
“I’ll never understand you.” You shook your head, tucking away your necklace with your good hand.
“I see why you believe in good now let me tell you why I believe in bad. I was a doctor before we all came here.”
“Your patients must have really hated you with your shitty bedside manner.” You rolled your eyes, he really wasn’t what you thought he would be.
“My patients were children and for the most part they actually liked me but regardless of what I did, I could only save the lives of those that had parents to bribe the hospital. Transplants weren’t given to those that needed it but to those that could afford it. I watched child after child die all because of corruption. That is why I believe there is no good. Because even when doing a job that is perceived to be good it is built on an ugly foundation.”
“That’s horrible Chish I’m so sorry. That doesn’t mean the world is bad, the place you were in was bad, the corruption was bad but the children were good.” You wanted to plead with him, to show him how good the world could be but even you knew he would have to see that for himself.
“You’ve got to let that nickname go.” He states bluntly. Checking around a corner as you continue your journey back to the small house.
“I couldn’t ever do that it annoys you too much. So did you become a doctor because you wanted to help people?”
“No. My parents.”
“Oh. Are they still alive?”
“Let’s not do that thing where we share life stories like we are best friends.”
“One second you worry about me the next you hate me, pick a side already. Are you SURE you’re not bipolar?” You laugh. Hoping to lighten the sudden tension between you.
“You confuse me and I don’t like that.” He huffs in irritation.
“Why?” You cock your head, your eyes were wide.
“Because caring in any situation is dangerous.”
You don’t press any more, leaving him to his thoughts as you consider your own. The walk is quiet, thankfully, with no close gunshots or dead bodies. The other games hadn’t seemed to have started yet. The indication lights on the other blimps are off rather than shining the red light as the King of Spades did.
You reach the new place you’d called home an hour or so later, the sun still bright in the sky. You turn to Chishiya. “Do you think everyone else is back home living normally? Having lunch? Playing sports?”
“I would like to think that this is some sort of mental thing, maybe our bodies are elsewhere. Maybe this is a drug trial gone wrong.” It secretly scares you just how little you all know, the world you are in is utterly different from the one you knew for the entirety of your previous life, the life that feels so long ago.
“Whatever it is let’s figure this out. So what we head to the mountains? I don’t think I can climb with my arm like this.”
“Well, then you should stay here.” He continues walking around the house, shoving things into his bag. “I’ll be gone a few hours and then be back it’s not a big deal you can just rest and make food or something.” Maybe see if you can find an old map and trace the borders that we know on it.
“You can’t go alone Chishiya.” You were firm, the thought of him going out alone scared you. “I’ll come with you it will be fine.”
He pointed to your bandages. “Let me check your arm.”
“You dressed it a few hours ago it’s fine.” You shook your head.
“I’ll go by myself then.” He heads towards the door, looking for a jacket of sorts.
“No, NO!” You shout making him turn to you. “You can check it.”
“Well, that was a short tantrum. Sit down.”
You take a seat on the small stool in the kitchen, close enough to the table so he can lay out whatever he needs. “I couldn’t see it properly in that building it will be safer to check it again.”
“Please just don’t hurt me.” You wince, already imagining the pain of the wound.
“I’ll try my best.” He is careful as he unwraps the bandage. “It looks deeper than I thought, I'll have to stitch it up.”
“Needle and thread stitch?” You feel your palms begin to sweat.
“Unfortunately yes. I have some numbing cream it should take away the pain.”
“What about pain killer?” You ask, hopeful.
“I have a stronger one here but you have to take it crushed up.” He explains, watching as you consider it.
“What will happen if I don’t?”
“It will take twice as long to heal and it could get infected. I’m sure even you know what that means.”
You hated how he sounded whenever he explained things to you, always sounding as though talking to an inferior child. “Why do you treat me like I’m so dumb.”
“How do I know you’re not?” He smirks, opening the painkillers.
“I studied literacy, I am a writer. I am educated. Stop acting like I’m so dumb-witted person because I have just as much knowledge as you do, maybe not in exactly the same way but I’m not unequal to you.” You wanted respect from him. Maybe too much.
You watch as he grinds them down, pouring them into a cup of juice. “This will take away the bad taste. Take them whilst I prepare the thread.”
You took the drink silently, gagging at the taste of the crushed pills but thankful for his idea to add the flavouring. “Chishiya how bad will it hurt?”
“I’ll try my best to make it easy just relax.” He explains, threading the needle.
“Will you talk to me whilst you do it? Help distract me?”
“Okay. Just don’t move too much.” You winced as he rubbed in the numbing lotion. “Leave it a minute and I’ll begin.”
“I’ve had stitches before but I was a kid in an equipped hospital and it certainly wasn’t like this.” You gestured to the table and then the window. He seemed to understand as he laughed lightly.
You watched as he picked up the needle, bringing it to your arm. “You know I was working the day I came here?”
You bit down on your tongue as the thread pierced the skin. “Fuck.”
“I know I know, don’t talk okay just breathe. It was late and I didn’t know what was going on. It was weird when I got here there didn’t seem to be so many people. I was supposed to assist a heart transplant for a child, it was the first time I’d actually seen a transplant to be given under the first circumstances. I wanted to be a doctor because of my dad, I thought I’d I became a doctor we would have more in common and he would have liked me a little better but that didn’t happen. It was an immature wish.”
You were thankful for his speaking, it served as a great distraction. “I’m sorry you deserved, ouch, you deserved better chish.”
“I said don’t talk.” He shook his head in disappointment.
“What do you want to do after we get out of here?”
“I’ll quit my job. I don’t know anything else I don’t think about it. There’s no point in thinking of a future that may not come you have to be present at the moment. You have to think for the you that exists now, not the you that will exist in however long.”
When he stopped to explain things without having a condescending tone it was easier to understand and accept things from his point of view, regardless of how warped it was. The you that existed now will be the you that exists in the future, but you didn’t tell him that. You couldn’t. “How much longer?”
“You’re all done.” He smiled, closing the stitch. “It doesn’t take long, how was the pain?”
“Better than being shot again I suppose.” You refrain from shrugging remembering the pain from earlier.
“How do you feel?”
“Really uh- dizzy?” You stood up, holding on to the table for support. “Chishiya I don’t feel good.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
That was the last thing you heard before everything switched off, a darkness encasing you. When you opened your eyes it was dark, the sun had set, and the house was only illuminated by the small lamp. “Chishiya?”
You had no response and the lack of movement in the house only spoke to one thing… he was gone.

"Honey? Are you feeling all right?"
Your head snapped up, eyes focusing in on the slender fingers waving in front of you.
Nyanko pursed her lips and pulled her hand away. "Girl, you've been anywhere but here," she teased.
"Oh," you murmured, shoving aside your hoodie to dig to the bottom of your bag. "Sorry. Spaced out for a minute."
She hummed, teasing the tufted tip of her left ear into an artful point. When you pulled out the designer gloss oil, she sneered. "Hero-boy coming tonight?"
"Every Wednesday after his shift, " you declared matter-of-factly before popping your lips. "He's very punctual."
"...after his shift?" She cocked her head. "Wait, weren't you out on a paid date?"
"Yup." You coaxed your eyelashes out of their clump before smoothing your hair.
She narrowed her eyes. "So why didn’t you drag the date guy back here to drink his wallet dry? It's kinda the whole dang point."
"Crusty boy," you explained.
"Oh." A catty grin broke on her face. "Decided you were no good too, huh?"
"I did my best to ensure it." You tossed your bag into your locker and headed for the door.
Nyanko raised a painted brow. "Wait, was he actually into you?"
You paused, a small smile playing on your lips. “Hopefully not."
Before she could ask any more questions, you slipped out into the hall. Spike heels clicked down the tile floor. From the main bar room, Usagi's fake giggles put your teeth on edge.
"Oh, Tano-san! You're so funny!"
Behind his back, she mouthed 'kill me'.
You flashed her a quick salute before dipping behind an ornate vase. Burning eyes drifted shut as you massaged the man-sized headache building in your temples.
"Think manic pixie dream girl, think manic pixie dream girl," you chanted to yourself.
Inside your head, a war raged. On one side, images of every genki girl-next-door that ever graced a video game cried out in voices that never tired, never worried, and certainly never nagged. On the other side, an exhausted, clinically depressed spinster snuggled into her oversized kigurumi and sipped her fourth cup of coffee. You willed the flood of powder pink passion to consume her in waves of giggling happiness. As their over exuberant perfection swallowed her whole, her only reply was "this is exhausting".
You flexed your smile a few times, shooting for cute and attentive over forced and creepy. Your mouth felt weighted tonight, as if each stretch of the cheek took twice as much effort. Muscle memory refused to cooperate. No matter how you tried, it screamed insincere.
“No, what I don’t like is… this. Whatever this is.”
You slapped your cheeks and shook off the memory like a dog shaking off mud. “He’s just a weirdo,” you muttered. “Stick to the routine and get that rent money.”
The door chimed. You glanced at the clock behind the bar. 9:30 PM on the dot.
Hiking up the front of your tight, white dress, you hoisted the girls front and center. Electric charm sparkled from your smile as you bounced around the corner.
“Oshida-san!” you squealed, tackle-hugging his thick, muscular arm. You nuzzled your cheek into his silk shirt while giggling. “Welcome home!”
The tall, dark brunette patted your head. “I’m home, Honey-chan,” he answered with a glittering grin.
Towering over the average Japanese man at 190 cm, Oshida Hideki, also known as Buster Man, looked like a king among peons. While not high in the hero rankings due to a low arrest rate, his cut, lean muscles put him front and center on every designer boxer-brief modeling campaign since he hit the market a half decade ago. Add a chiseled jawline dubbed “the most ideal miso face since Watanabe Ken” and his pet pack of three ribbon wrapped Papillons, it wasn’t hard to see why he topped the “wholesome heroes who can get you pregnant with one look” list for the past five years.
You wondered if his fan club would still find him “wholesome” after they heard that little line about cum in the lip color.
“Come on, come on!” You tugged his arm, pretending to drag him along to the bar. “Tell me some fun stories tonight, okay?”
Oshida-san allowed himself to be swept along by your excitement. “Fun stories, huh? Aw… Don’t tell me my little Honey Bunny is feeling down?”
You pouted. “Of course I’m down! I had to wait a whole week to see you!”
He chuckled, flopping onto the leather seat. “Guess I should come more often, huh?”
“Yay!” you cheered. With an exaggerated bounce, you hopped into the seat beside him. Then, touching your lips with your finger, you pressed an indirect kiss to his nose. “But don’t stress yourself out to do it, okay Oshida-san?” Big, round eyes stared up at him. “You work so many hours already...”
With a weary smile, he laid his head back on the top of the booth and patted your head again. “You’re very sweet.”
You giggled. “My name is Honey after all!”
All at once, his voice pitched into a hard grumble. “Are you ever going to tell me your real name?”
Sure! Right around the time you decide being stalked by a horny client was both romantic and desirable.
“Aw…” you teased, kicking your legs like a child. “...but I want the guy I like to call me something cute and Honey is a super cute name.”
He frowned before tossing his shoulders to throw you off. “Where’s the beer menu?”
Great. And now pushy-mc-grumpy-pants is gonna buy beer over champagne just because you wouldn’t give him what he wanted. You’d think that someone who wears a mask in all his photoshoots would appreciate keeping a secret identity secret.
With a smile more plastic than a Licca doll, you opened up the menu and flipped to the craft beers section. You tapped a white ale with a patchwork cat on the label. “Since it’s a Wednesday, I’d recommend Suiyobi no Neko! The mild citrus aftertaste is supposed to be good for the mid-week hump.”
He smirked. “Did you just pick it because the label is cute?”
…no, you picked it because Mama-san is offering an extra 10% bonus on it for the next month since it costs 1.5x what a basic Sappro does.
You stuck out your tongue and thunked your own head with a playful fist. “Got me!”
“You’re so silly, Honey-chan.” He chuckled. “You never think too much do you? Must be nice.”
Your fur bristled. “I’ll order those drinks then!”
As you started to rise, he caught your wrist. You turned. On his face was a perverse smile, one he never showed to the cameras. A husky voice purred at you from below the come hither stare. “You’re wearing my lipstick, Honey-chan.”
Ah, so it was going to be one of those nights. Great.
He loosed your hand and gave your tail a fast squeeze. “Go on, bunny girl. Hop to it.”
As soon as you turned your back, a cloud of loathing fogged your expression. You flagged the waiter for the drinks before schooling your face into an empty headed smile. By the time you settled back at Oshida’s side, any lingering irritation lay buried below a professional’s mask.
“Neh, neh, Oshida-san,” you prodded his meaty arm. “Tell me about your week? I always love hearing your stories.”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Well, last Friday was a bit exhausting.”
“Oh no! What happened?”
“Some kid got lost and we spent several hours hunting for him.” He sighed again, this time even more dramatic than the last. “Turns out he was just playing around, hiding under his bed. The parents swore they checked there, but clearly they did not. It was stupid.”
…oh no. He was inconvenienced by a kid being a kid. Better call the fun police.
“Wow, that sounds rough,” you agreed. “You put in all that effort too…”
“I know!” Another sigh. “Such a waste. I should have been patrolling the city.”
What he meant was “showing off for the ladies”. After all, peacocking in spandex while adoring fans swarmed him was clearly sexier than chasings kids with dust bunny energy.
“You know—" you touched his shoulder "—I think that the fact you worked that hard just for one little boy's sake is amazing. You're so kind."
He paused mid-rant and smiled at you. "Sometimes, I think you're the only one that appreciates me." He tapped your nose. “My sweet Honey…”
You giggled to hide the grimace.
The waiter set an oversized, weeping bottle of white ale beside your elbow along with two tall glasses. You tilted the glass and poured the beer to a frothy head. Oshida took his drink and gulped down half of it in one blast.
“Go Oshida-san! Go!” you cheered.
“Heh,” he grinned, wiping his full lips. “Like that do you?”
“Super manly,” you cooed, snuggling into his shoulder. Then, you took a delicate sip of your own. “I dunno that I can keep up.”
He threw an arm around your shoulder and pulled you into his body. Wafting from below the slim-fit Hugo Boss suit, two sprays too much of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue clocked you across the nose with “fresh, colorful, citrus and bamboo”. It did little to hide the pungent smell of “stale, muddy, sweat and locker room” that a simple shower could have fixed.
“That’s okay, babe, I’m not into those girls that drink like fish and swear like sailors. I like you for who you are.” His fingers walked up your bare thigh. “You know. A real lady.”
Oh? He likes you for who you really are, huh? Bet this cunt wouldn’t say that if he watched you pound your fifth sake bomb.
“I want the girl from the alley.”
As the raspy voice replayed in your ears, you shivered.
"Cold?"
No, but you nodded anyway..
Oshida shrugged off his sport coat and wrapped it around your shoulders. You sneezed and smiled through watery eyes.
"You're kind, Oshida-san."
Brown eyes locked on your lips. His cheeks flushed from the beer, he leaned in. "I wanna taste that lipstick I bought you."
With a strained laugh, you twisted out of his hold. "No! Bad boy!"
"Aw…" he whined, trying to pull you back in. "I could be real good to you though, if you'd let me."
Not this again.
You gulped, glancing away. "Oshida-san… Your fans would freak out if someone like me was your girlfriend."
"So? I don't care about that."
Of course he didn't care. He wasn't going to get harassed by rabid, ugly-jealous housewives for being "the whoring slut" that took their fantasy husbando!
"Honey-chan, I love you."
Ugggghhhhhhhhhh…
"A nice girl like you shouldn't be working in a place like this."
You wouldn’t have to if the Nice Guys™ who interviewed you spent more time staring at your resume than at your tits.
He thumbed his broad chest and beamed proudly. “So, why don’t you let a real hero save you from all this?”
Wow… he said that with a straight face and everything.
With a forlorn smile, you shook your head. “I owe Mama-san so much for hiring me despite my inexperience. Until I can repay her generosity, it wouldn’t be right to just abandon her. She’s basically my family, you know.”
Oshida wrinkled his nose. With a huff, he slammed back the last of his beer. You tried to refill his glass, but he clamped his hand over the top. “You could be a little more grateful when a man buys you something nice,” he snarled at you.
Seriously?! This guy actually thought a 3,000 yen lip stain was such a great gift that you would risk your job to give him a gratitude bang!? Pochi-chan’s simp brought her a diamond encrusted Rolex last week just for the chance to touch her wrist.
“Oshida-san…” You tugged at his silken shirt sleeve, letting your burning eyes well with crocodile tears. It wasn’t hard. His jacket reeked. “Please…”
Please stay and spend more money because rent is due next week.
One look at your quivering lip and he collapsed back into his seat. “Oh Honey-chan. I just get so frustrated because I know I can give you a better life.”
Ma’am! Enemy troops are playing the “I’m only angry because I love you” card.
Quickly, deploy countermeasures!
“Thank you for worrying about me, Oshida-san.” Smiling through the painful lie, you dabbed your tears with one finger. “Someday, I hope things will be different.”
Namely, that he can learn to be content with the client-professional relationship he pays you to have.
“So—” you poked him in the chest “—can I hear more stories now?”
“Anything you want.” He lifted his glass. “Fill a guy up, would ya babe?”
Biting your tongue, you poured the thirsty man another drink.
Tumblr media
The three hours after you helped Oshida’s drunk, handsy self into the back of a cab passed by in a blur. After the less-than-heroic departure, Mama-san paired you with a short, balding ophthalmologist who owned a pet rabbit as a child and, apparently, had never maintained a meaningful relationship since. He spent most of the evening asking your opinions on birthday presents for his estranged thirteen year old daughter. It took exactly three pictures from her social media to notice her obsession with cute manicures. By closing time, your client was armed with a full analysis of his daughter’s favorite colors, what shades of polish would pass the “my school is run by prudes'' test, and which couture brands were worth the money (Dior Vernis - always a classic) and which were not (Louboutin’s packaging is too hard to control). Even champagne bubbles could barely lift the worry weighing him down.
“So, where is the closest location again?” he asked with a hiccup.
“Ginza,” you answered with a glittering smile.
Flushed to the tips of his ears, he pressed his greasy head into his shaking hands. “W-what if I pick wrong?”
“That’s why we’re leaving the box half full, silly,” you reminded him. “When she notices there are three more spots left in the carrying case, you tell her that you wanted to take her to the store so she can pick the rest out herself.”
“Can’t you just choose them out for me, Honey-chan?” he begged. “We could make it a paid date! You can pick some out for yourself too!”
“Ah, ah, ah!” You tutted with a playful tap to the tip of his nose. “Papa-san needs to sweat a little over the gift or it's not sincere. ❤”
“You’re right,” he sighed and hung his head.
With a giggle, you patted him on the back. “It’s hard to have a good relationship with your kids when you live so far away. The key is that the money is used to buy the experience with you, not her affection. That, you have to earn by showing her you are paying attention to things she likes, even if you live apart. Understand?”
He nodded, tears welling in his eyes. He paused in the entrance to pump his fist. “I’ll do my best, Honey-Sensei.”
“Fight on, Papa-san!” you cheered.
As soon as the glass door slipped shut, Mama-san snapped the deadbolt into place. Sooty lashes and a knowing stare peaked over the edge of her black, lace fan. “Very energetic, for two in the morning.”
“Tell me about it,” you groaned, slumping against the countertop. “He drank two high balls and an entire bottle of champagne by himself! That man’s liver must be pickled!”
Mama-san’s eyes narrowed. It was the closest she came to smiling. “We need to talk. Follow me.”
The round, sweeping train of Mama-san’s emerald green mermaid gown snaked back and forth across the pale tile as she led you to her small, corner office. By the time she’d ushered you inside, you were sweating bullets. She reached below her desk. Rows of sequins winked from her long, lace sleeves. Without a word, she placed a fiery orange box tied with elegant brown ribbon in your hands. Just beside the tiny caricature of a handsome horse cart were two words: “Hermès - Paris”.
Your jaw dropped. “Huh?!”
She held out a small red trimmed envelope crafted from elegant ivory linen. Scrawling calligraphy read: “For Honey Bunny”. Shaking hands peeled it open.
Thank you for your attention to my protégé this afternoon. It has been a long time since I have seen him so animated. Please accept this small token as compensation for any social skills he is yet lacking. I do hope you will continue educating him in the future.
You raised an eyebrow. “There’s no name on this card?”
She set her fan down before draping herself across her dark, wingback chair. “Can you not guess?”
“May I open it?”
She waved her permission before folding her hands under her chin.
The brown bow slipped loose. You lifted the lid. Inside, creamy tissue paper lay neatly folded over a bulky, beige dust bag emblazoned with the horse drawn carriage and the letter H. You tugged open the draw strings, only to find a rectangular leather tote in a shade of dark grey-brown with white top stitching and palladium hardware. As you pulled it out, a small card holder flopped onto the desk. Mama-san picked it up and inspected the contents.
“Interesting.”
“What is it?”
She held it out to you. “The bill of sale. It’s from this evening.”
“So?”
Long, golden talons tapped the desk. “Birkin 35s are in high demand and Etoupe is a popular neutral. They are almost always out of stock.” She snorted. “Though apparently, not for him.”
“Shigaraki-san’s mentor?”
She nodded, passing you the receipt. “I bought myself the Noir version to celebrate opening this club. The consignment store in Ginza found a thirteen year old model for me. It was a good deal at 2,000,000 yen.”
Hands shaking, you lowered the purse back into the box like your very breath might tear it to pieces. “I-I can’t accept this!” you protested.
“Do not be ungrateful to our patron. It reflects poorly on the club,” Mama-san stated. “Also, I would not recommend reselling it. He will find out.”
You gulped.
“I will email you the website for the organizer I use.” Mama-san slipped to her feet, lifting the black enamel phone on the corner of her desk. “However, a drunk woman should not walk home alone at night with that box. You’ll be taking a cab with my compliments on a job well done.”
Despite going drink-for-drink with two men for the past five hours, you found yourself entirely sober.

VCF Southwest
This was the first time I've been able to attend a VCF, and it was the first held in the Dallas area in over a decade. I was lucky enough to participate as both event staff, helping to plan and run the show, and as an exhibitor. It was exhausting, it was overwhelming at times, and I nearly lost my voice by the end of the first day ... But it was also an incredible experience and I really enjoyed it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I brought a few of my projects to show off. First and foremost was my Wrap030-ATX project, which I paired with a Wyse WY-30 terminal I rescued from Computer Reset, and had running a demo program for printing names on my recently-repaired Apple ImageWriter II/L. Next to that was my Wrap030 board stack running a Mandelbrot fractal renderer using its 68882 FPU and video generator cards. Then came the Mac SE from Computer Reset I repaired, with my SE-VGA card driving an external monitor, and running Oregon Trail (always a crowd favorite!). Finally I had my Franken-Plus, which sadly suffered a power supply failure early on the first day and sat dark all weekend.
My exhibit was situated just down the row from @commodorez , who won the show's Best Microcomputer award for his "VICs that aren't 20" exhibit of rare and lesser-known Commodore computers. Across from Commodore-Z was Usagi Electric, who won Best in Show for his exhibit of the Centurion, a PDP-11, and his vacuum tube computer.
I had a great time talking to Commodore-Z, @ms-dos5 , Usagi Electric, Nybbles and Bytes, Macintosh Librarian, Retrotech Chris, Kevin & Michael of the Turbo 9 Team, Al Williams, and so many more wonderful people that I couldn't even begin to catch names for.
I also got to go into deep-dive discussions on very specific details about my projects with people who already knew so much more about the components and the tools that I'm using than I do. It's energizing to be around people that understand the work that goes into these projects and appreciate what I've accomplished.

The show was so much bigger than I anticipated. Including staff, volunteers, sponsors, speakers, exhibitors, and attendees, we saw nearly 900 people come through the main hall over the course of the weekend. Seminars were full, with CuriousMarc's presentation on Restoring the Apollo Guidance Computer forming an imposing line for entry well ahead of the scheduled start of the talk. We had incredible community turnout; it was great to see entire families come through with awestruck small children in tow.
There was so much to see and do, so many people to talk to. The entire weekend is just a blur. My brain is still trying to process everything from the show.
One thing does stand out though — an unbelievably generous act from someone I spoke to on Saturday about my homebrew builds and my methods for testing and debugging. This kind soul was so impressed by what I have accomplished without an oscilloscope that he bought one from the VCFSW charity auction and gave it to me on Sunday. I was so surprised I didn't think to even get his name before he disappeared into the crowd. I can't wait to put it to good use, and I hope that what I build with it lives up to his expectations.
Following VCF East earlier this year, Bil Herd said something about riding that high from VCFE, and that prompted him to agree to come out to join us at VCFSW this year. Now that I've experienced it for myself, I understand what he meant. I've been looking though all the pictures and blog posts everyone has been sharing, and catching up on recordings of the presentations I missed. Interest in some of my projects has me thinking about what I can do with them next. It's exciting.
I can't wait until next year.
