I lost Shirakumo
Shirakumo was dead. He wasn’t supposed to ever return. But miraculously, like God fate decided he deserved another chance, he came back to them— right?
TW: Character death
To this day, Aizawa never understood how Shirakumo survived.
It was obvious what should’ve happened to him — being crushed by a building makes your body go splat. There was no chance of you coming back unless a quirkologist discovered how to reverse a body back to normal. No one could be brought back from the dead. Not. One. Person.
When Mic and Aizawa were called down to the office their second year of high school, Aizawa had thought Mic got them in trouble again. He didn’t bother to ask, as he didn’t want to go through the motions of Mic failing to defend his shenanigans. It was like routine at this point.
Nemuri was standing outside the office door, dried tears staining her face and fresh ones running down her cheeks. She hadn’t cried like that in a while. Not since Shirakumo died.
The principal, in a hushed whisper, told them to enter, and there he was: Loud Cloud, looking out the window, hands deep in his pockets. He turned, a smile on his face. His eyes looked bright as ever.
Present day, the four of them had their own hero agency and, by Shirakumo’s begging and pleading, they were also teachers at Yuuei. The Four Elites is what they were called, celebrated for continuously honing their teaching skills and heroics no matter the time or day. While the group had originally started underground, Shirakumo, like always, had gotten them out of their shell and exposed them to the spotlights of heroics.
Aizawa was known. It felt weird. He certainly didn’t like the attention most days, but he’d be lying if he said that it didn’t boost his self esteem. His quirk that he himself deemed worthless was now adored by the masses. His fans loved his dry humor and also praised his teaching skills, as he always encouraged his students to never give up on themselves — especially if someone never gave up on you.
And, once again, this was all thanks to Shirakumo — the boy who should never be alive.
That’s what the people on forums call him. All of them were conspirits digging to find out how Shirakumo lived; was it witchcraft? Was his death propoganda? Was Shirakumo Oboro even his real identity? Evidence upon evidence, each one more ridiculous than the last, mounted, and eventually Shirakumo found out that’s why people talked about him so much. Boy Wonder. The Walking Dead. All those names, yet no one could ever think to just leave him alone.
But for some reason, Shirakumo didn’t seemed bothered. No, not one bit. In fact, there was a blank stare as he scrolled through his phone and took in each comment. It made Aizawa shiver.
Yes, he was glad that Boy Wonder survived. But how? And, dare he question, why? Why and how did Shirakumo live? He never had a chance to ask until their lunch break on the rooftop.
Mic was needed for a mission, so it was only him and Shirakumo. As usual, Shirakumo was talkative — no longer about a once fanatic hero agency, but stuff Aizawa was interested in: cats, sleeping, and even how to keep improving their skills. He was so interested in him and what he wants to do to the point it just became bothersome.
“Why do you keep talking about my interests?” Aizawa asked bluntly. “Don’t you want to talk about yourself?”
Shirakumo blinked. Then, he laughed. “Shota! Of course I want to talk about you! You’re my best friend!”
“Yeah, but…” Aizawa felt something soft against his leg. It was the cat Shirakumo saved, old with age. Almost distracted, he looked back up. “How did you survive, Shirakumo?”
Shirakumo paused. He looked away.
The silence between the two stretched until they heard the bell ring. Never in his life has Aizawa felt more uncomfortable with quietness. Shirakumo didn’t even look back at him, only looking at the cloudless sky.
Aizawa stood up. “Sorry. I don’t think I should’ve—“
“Do you ever miss home, Shota?”
“Huh?”
Slowly getting up, Shirakumo walked over to the railing, draping his arms over it; a somber look was on his face as his hair was gently blown by the wind. “Home, y’know? Where the heart is. I just feel so homesick and I can’t wait to go back. Someone’s waiting for me there and I can’t wait to see him.”
Profound. Heartfelt. Desperate. Three things Aizawa never thought he would say about Shirakumo’s words. “You…excited to see your cousin or something?”
“No. Someone better. Someone I would protect with my whole mind, heart, and soul.”
Aizawa’s eyes widened.
Devoted. Responsible. Trustworthy. Whoever this person was, Aizawa wanted to meet. He wanted to know how they and Shirakumo have such a deep, soul-bound connection. The small smile and faraway look in Shirakumo’s eyes said it all: this person, in whatever way, had all his heart.
The USJ Attack hit the Elite Agency’s reputation hard. Once considered idols to be worshipped, they were know questioned for their heroics and if they were even worthy to teach the sprouting buds of students.
All of Aizawa’s insecurity issues flared up. The more he thought about it, the more all of his anxieties flourished in his heart. It was safe there. It was Yuuei. He and his friends have been training here for years without a single worry. But the moment he decides to go there, everything goes awry. No matter how many times Mic reassured him, he felt the weight of the blame on him. It was his class that got attacked. A class he promised to always protect. Because, even if Shirakumo was alive now, the thought of losing more people he cared about scared him.
Speaking of Shirakumo — he wasn’t there. Like a dying flame, one minute he was beside Mic and Aizawa, and then he was gone. Even the students, as they fought, noticed his sudden absence.
Never in his life had Aizawa fought so hard. The thought of Shirakumo being attacked somewhere else with nowhere to aid him triggered a familiar, scared feeling. Losing him once was hard. Losing him twice, when Aizawa had the chance to save him this time — he would not let that happen.
After the villains warped away, he ran all around the school building. He searched every classroom and training ground until he was left panting in the middle of the second floor hallway, anxiety having becoming a monster with tentacles that swallowed him whole. He didn’t give up. He got back up and ran to the principal’s office.
Out of all places, that’s where Shirakumo was. He was facing the window, coffee in hand, hair whispy as ever. Turning his head, he gave Aizawa a mellow smile. “Hey!”
“What are you doing here?” Aizawa interrogated, the anxiety and anger mixing. “Do you not know what happened at USJ? My students were attacked and there was no one to evacuate the injured! What were you doing, Shirakumo!”
The mellow smile faded; a somber look took over. Instead of turning his back completely, he shifted his stance; his shoulder faced Aizawa, the mug in his other hand, eyes staring out the window. “I feel like I failed someone today.”
Aizawa blinked. “Huh?”
Like remembering he was there, Shirakumo snapped his head back, eyes widened. He then laughed like his life depended on it. “Sorry! Got a little sad there! It’s just…” He paused. “You ever feel like you failed the person you care for the most?”
Oh, he knew all too well. “Yeah. I do. But why weren’t you—“
“That’s how I feel right now,” Shirakumo said, walking over towards him with long, careful strides. “I was helping him today. It’s why I couldn’t help you guys fight. He needed my help.”
“More help than the students you’re supposed to look after?” Aizawa seethed, curling his fists. “We needed you, Oboro! They were looking for you! I was looking for you. I…I thought I lost you again.”
Aizawa felt a hot tear slide down his cheek. Saying that felt like releasing the years worth of grief he went through. He remembered the endless nights he spent crying over the fact that he was right there. He could’ve turned around and pulled Shirakumo away from the falling pieces. He could’ve shouted at him to watch out. Instead, he was drowning in the fact he couldn’t take down that villain because his quirk wasn’t physical. He died because of his insecurities.
And the thought of losing him again, whether he went missing or suddenly turned up dead, killed him more than anyone could imagine.
A firm hand grasped his shoulder. Looking up, he saw Shirakumo looking at him, eyes unwavering. He stared at Aizawa for a good minute, then gave another smile.
“I’m here, Shota,” he reminded, voice soft. “I know that I must’ve caused you a lot of pain. All I can say is I’m sorry. And I’m sorry for not being by your side today.”
Aizawa nodded, pushing Shirakumo away because of how close he was. “I forgive you. Just don’t do that again.”
He laughed. “You got it! Are your eyes okay, by the way?”
Odd question. “Why?”
“That dude I talked to you about,” he begins, “is my mentee. Almost like a nephew to me at this point. He’s a fan of yours.”
“What’s that got to do with my eyes?”
Shirakumo blinked. “Oh. He just to train with you. He likes to fight.”
Aizawa chuckled. “Like Sensoji?”
Shirakumo’s eyebrows furrowed. “Yeah! Definitely like that guy!”
Despite the weird pause at the mention of his former bully’s name, it was forgotten in a bliss when Mic came running down the hallway at full speed. He also had a mouthful for Shirakumo’s absence; but, since the two were so alike, they instantly made up. The three of them walked back to USJ. There was nothing to worry about because he had all that he needed right here.
As Aizawa looked back at these precious memories, something in his heart mourned, grieved, anguished. There was a hollow void which was once filled with bright light, and it only grew the more he looked into Shirakumo’s eyes.
His best friend was in a cell, body hunched over. From the few hours they’ve been in Tartarus, there was not a word from either of them. Not even the sound of a pin drop would break the concentration Aizawa had on him.
“We couldn’t believe it either,” Gran Torino said over the intercoms. “It was weird when we noticed that he was the only teacher not present during that time. And when we started keeping tabs on him, the more the pieces started falling into place. We were ready to take him in for questioning until one of the officers found it strange that he didn’t respond to their commands.”
Aizawa stayed quiet. The quiet was the only thing soothing the throbbing void.
“What do you mean, old man!” Mic shouted. “Why is Shirakumo in here! He ain’t a villain! He’s my friend.”
The silence that was once soothing became cold.
“Shirakumo died in that accident years ago, right?” Gran Torino reminded. “We couldn’t even recover his body. It had disappeared. Then when he just appeared back at Yuuei like nothing happened, we all didn’t know what to do. Someone that was dead should’ve stayed dead, right?” Torino breathed in and sighed. “Now we know why he’s alive.”
Mic paused. His eyes widened with horror. “C…c’mon, man. You’re… joking, right?” He laughed. He pointed. “Are you saying that my best friend’s—”
“Kurogiri. And his mentee is—“
“Shut up.” Aizawa‘s fists trembled. “That’s not true. A Nomu is a creature meant to follow orders of their creator! Shirakumo has memories of us! Shirakumo is there! He would never willingly serve Shigaraki!”
One of the officers sighed. “Then what’s the reason he wasn’t at USJ, Aizawa? Who are we to determine that? And whose to say that he wasn’t ordered to just fake it?”
“Shut up!” Mic shouted. “You’re lying! You’re all liar!”
It was a lie. All of it.
Shirakumo Oboro’s return years ago was a ruse. Those eyes were never looking at him with care. They were scrutinizing what Yuuei taught, where the training grounds were, and maybe even protect the traitor in their midst. Another traitor, at least. But at least that one was doing it alive.
“Why?” Aizawa heard the crack in his voice. “Why was stationed at Yuuei? What what his purpose there?”
Mic turned his head. “Sho—“
“Are you saying that my best friend was turned into a toy?” Slowly standing up, Aizawa glared at one of the cameras. “Are you saying that it was a joke? He was never there? Not even once?”
Silence. Agonizing silence.
Like lightning, Aizawa activated his quirk and looked at Shirakumo, taking off the goggles. “Oboro! It’s us! Shota and Hizashi! Give us answers!”
Nothing.
“You were the type to save a kitten from rain while I would leave it behind,” Aizawa said. “I was a coward. I had no self-esteem. But your constant encouragement was what kept me going. Don’t tell me it was all fake. I know it wasn’t! Why would a Nomu play me like a fiddle? You’re there, Oboro! Just say something, please.”
He waited. And waited. And waited.
In all the time that Aizawa and Mic spent there, Shirakumo didn’t speak. No amount of shouting, tears, or sadness stirred his mind.
“Twenty years, man,” Mic mumbled. “For over twenty years, we were fools.”
Shirakumo was never there.
“We’ve been theorizing that the reason he hung around you so much, Aizawa, was because whoever’s controlling him wanted to keep tabs on you” Gran Torino informed. “It’s why he’s probably asked about your eyes, too. Maybe they want your quirk. That’s really all we’ve gathered.”
“I get it,” Aizawa said. He really didn’t. “Yeah. I understand.”
A beat. “Thank you for your work today, fellas. We’ll call you next time you’re needed.”
They were led out of Tartarus. Hard rain greeted them outside, thunder accompanying it.
“What a nice joke,” Mic said, the bitterness in his voice obvious. “More reminders of that day.” He turned to look at Aizawa. “You alright, Shota?”
Aizawa felt tears streaming down his face. He’s never been this glad to have long hair. “I got dry eye.”

Hey, can anyone who knows tell me what Ujiko refers to All For One as? Like does he have a name for him specifically? Does he use "san" or something like "sama"?

-kana?
Horikoshi keeps doing this and I love it!
I think everybody knows at this point the nuance to Dabi's introduction to Endeavor in the beginning of S5.
「まあ、とりあえず。。。初めましてかな、エンデヴァー」
Maa, toriaezu... Hajimemashitekana, Endeavor [ENG: Well, first of all let's just say it's nice to meet you, Endeavor]
This is what he says. That "kana" in Japanese softens the phrase, and most of all gives the sentence a dubitative undertone. In this specific case, we know it's because it's not the first time he and Endeavor meet.
But as I was rewatching S5 to prepare myself for the new upcoming season, I noticed Ujiko does the same thing!
「死柄木以外は、初めましてかな」
Shigaraki igai wa, hajimemashitekana [ENG: With the exception of Shigaraki, it's a pleasure to meet you all]
And after ch.350 we know it's not the first time they meet for all of them either, as he met Dabi when he was still Touya!

Chapter Thoughts: 364, Why We Wield Power
This one got long. Have a jump!
Ujiko and All For One
O  Welcome back, Shie Hassaikai arc relevance!  Shame you had to be for nothing more than AFO’s “This isn’t even my final form” moment, but at least it’s something.  I do kind of wonder, however, how AFO administered this to himself?  Like, the Ujiko bit is a flashback; he’s clearly in the hospital lab, recording this message he’ll leave, and the thing he’s looking at is one of the bullets, not far from the device Shigaraki will later scavenge them from.  So what exactly did Ujiko leave AFO?  We don’t see it, just the kitty ear helmet.
If it were something external, then AFO would have had to have used it as Endeavor was burning him up, and I don’t recall seeing anything like that, even in the vague form of e.g. the strange close-up of Dabi flashing his collar at Hawks that turned out to be foreshadowing a micro camera.  I suppose it could just have been in a vial that was destroyed, splashing its contents onto AFO’s skin?  Or it was something he consumed/injected in advance, that was, idk, somehow triggered to his heartbeat stopping?  It’s a little on the handwavy side, is what I mean to say.
O  Every time the story brings up the Quirk Doomsday Theory (interesting that Ujiko calls it that now, too, despite that phrasing having drifted considerably from his initial terminology of Paranormal Singularity Theory), I wonder again if it’s ever going to seriously engage with the ramifications of it, and how it could even do so while still centering Deku and the rest of his class.  High schoolers, even super-powered ones, are not traditionally extremely well-equipped for dealing with matters like “devastation resulting from human evolution.”  (We might actually have seen some movement on this front in this very chapter, actually, so more on this below!)
O  Ujiko leaving AFO presents while nostalgically waxing fond about him is so cute.  God, that horrible little old man (affectionate) is so in love.  On which note…
You guys, I had a whole thing I was going to say about Ujiko wishing AFO’s heart would not be filled with hate.  It was so touching!  And moreover, it made so much sense!  It perfectly explained Ujiko’s strange ambivalence towards giving Shigaraki AFO, his bizarre attempt to pump the brakes on something we’re later told had been his and AFO’s goal for decades!  It slotted right in with his talk about loving traits of AFO’s that are inherently tied to AFO’s own body, things won’t go with him to Shigaraki’s body!  It added interesting nuances to his characterization, opening up possibilities that he went along with the bodyjacking plans because it’s what AFO wanted, but privately, he wished he could have found another way to get the man OFA, a way that wouldn’t require Ujiko losing those eyes and voice and smile he loved so dearly, or seeing that Buddha-like smile being tainted with hatred.(1)
And then the Viz official came out and it turned out, no, actually, the fan translators just got confused because Ujiko is an old man who uses extremely archaic language, and actually what he said was that he does want AFO’s heart to be filled with hate.
Tumblr media
See, this shit is why I wait for official releases before doing chapter response posts.
Anyway, it’s fine, I guess.  It’s what AFO wants, and what AFO wants is of course also what Ujiko wants.  His heartfelt wish is for AFO to achieve his dreams—it’s sweet, in their awful way!  But man, it just doesn’t click like I first thought it did.  Why frame the line with, “Allow me to speak my mind,” as if it’s some big secret that Ujiko is nuts about his seventy-year husbando?  Also, it leaves that weird characterization gap about Ujiko’s reticence to give Shigaraki the AFO quirk wide open.  And there I was about to reconsider the AFO retcon theory!(2)
O  I deeply wish I could love AFO’s talk about passing the baton to Shigaraki.  It’s so well aligned with everything I liked about early-series AFO, and so horribly unsatisfying in execution.  Rather than me repeating myself, please go ahead and fill in more of my usual kvetching about the bizarre conflation of AFO-the-man with AFO-the-quirk and how badly I want AFO and/or Horikoshi to read an article on the Teleportation Paradox.  Maybe he could give Nolan’s The Prestige a spin.
That said, I do like that—while AFO’s de-aging is exactly as arbitrary as all of Hori’s ticking clocks of late—you can at least say, well, AFO is over a hundred years old, so it’s going to take longer to rewind him than e.g. Eri rewinding her father out of existence in a matter of seconds, especially since it’s coming in the form of something Ujiko whipped up, rather than just being one big concentrated, uncontrolled blast.
I do feel this runs afoul of the issue that a villain dealing with AFO absolves the heroes of having to figure out what to do about him, and that’s kind of giving the heroes a narratively unearned easy out.  But I admit I didn’t expect the villain to be AFO himself!  And, well, at least it’ll be fun to see him as a teenager, or even a child.  Looking forward to seeing if heroes will still be willing to try to beat the piss out of him at that juncture.
O  I’m very curious as to whether AFO has something specific in mind when he talks about thwarting the future of the entire world.  It could just be more of his Evil Overlord talk, a generic statement about how he plans to rule, but the phrasing, “An act which thwarts the future they envision,” implies that he’s already done the brainstorming to come up with an appropriate atrocity.
Which is all to say, oh heck, is whatever he’s hinting at finally going to be the thing that brings Ujiko’s quirk singularity theory into focus?  It’s been established that quirks have become the norm, and since they’re the norm, that means they’re an intrinsic part of the future people everywhere in the world envision.  So if AFO has come up with some sort of way to affect quirks en masse, that would certainly qualify as global future-thwarting. It’s also close enough to Aoyama’s depiction of AFO’s goals re: using quirks to arbitrate with countries who need what that quirk offers to track with AFO saying Aoyama was merely “wrong in some of the details.”
I’ve long thought that the only surefire way to save humanity from the future Ujiko theorizes is in store for them would be to remove quirks entirely, but given the series’ intentional conflation of a person’s quirk with their inherent nature/personality, as well as the story’s nature as an energetic and optimistic battle narrative, taking away all quirks is an extremely fraught topic.  I’ll be very interested to see how the story navigates that idea if it goes for it.
Tumblr media
O  This is such a fascinatingly melancholy panel.  Maybe he’s being totally straightforward here, and it’s just meant to come across as alien in the totality of its evil, and thus scary, but I do wonder.  If nothing else, he did once wish for his brother to join him, you know?
Also interesting that his eyes look the same as Tomura’s when Vestige!AFO is piloting Tomura around.  AFO’s eyes always have looked like this in flashback scenes, of course, but somehow it had never struck me that ShigAFO’s foggy, blank eyes were anything other than an indication of his loss of control.  (Possible evidence towards AFO having fought a losing battle against the biological determinism of his own quirk decades ago?)
Timothy “No Idea What He’s Talking About” Agpar
O  His rhetoric here about children and adults sounds nice, but frankly, it’s not even in line with how Star acted, much less heroes as a broad category.  BNHA deals so much in the idea of heroes as people who wanted to be rich, famous, admired as Strongest, or even just to generically “save” people; the only heroes I can think of off the top of my head who are giving serious thought to future generations are Nighteye (future vision), Nedzu (super intelligence; school principal), Best Jeanist (self-appointed mentor to troubled youth), and Aizawa (school teacher, dead bestie trauma).
The rest?  Not so much.  Even the manga’s most iconic hero had to be browbeaten by several acquaintances, a death-timer prophecy from his sidekick, and a horrific injury from his nemesis before he was willing to give serious consideration to the next generation.  I’m pretty damn sure Deku is not thinking about future generations when he wields his power; he is rather explicitly thinking about the people he knows and cares about.  Indeed, the OFA council about how he probably won’t be able to pass OFA forward anymore pretty well insured that.
Star & Stripe? Who Tim apparently knew personally enough to be carrying around a childhood photo in the wake of her loss?(3)
Nothing we learned about that woman in the brief time we had her suggested that her primary motivation was building the foundation for the future.  She wanted to save people, sure, but that desire was all tied up in saving people BESTEST and MOSTEST.  She had pouty angst sessions about not being able to make herself stronger than All Might; she explicitly styled her hair “like All Might but moreso.”  Cathleen Bate, as far as we saw her, was entirely preoccupied with a hero of her current time/the previous generation,(4) not thinking at all about legacies and the children of the world to come.
Also, “Heroes use their powers to support future generations,” is a weird thing to claim when any given villain threatens just as many old people as they do young people.  (See e.g. Overhaul putting Pops in a coma or the old granny Toga must have at least harmed and might have done worse to in order to get her blood.)
All told, I can’t help but feel that these are the words of a man on the cusp of grandparenthood, not a man who understands heroics as a job class.
One more thing: @robotlesbianjavert brought this up first in some talk about the chapter, but like…  Many of the Pro Heroes we’re familiar with are in their early 20s to early 30s.  Maybe that seems really old to the target audience of HeroAca, but it is actually really quite young.  Edgeshot is 34.  That’s barely anything; he has got a whole life and career ahead of him in danger of being snuffed out.  It’s a noble sacrifice or whatever, sure, but maybe the manga could just call it that instead of playing into the bizarre Your Life Is Over When You Graduate High School messaging so typical of school setting manga?
At best, I can see the implications of, “Well, once you’re out of school, it’s all downhill from there and you might as well resign yourself to laying the ground for future generations!  Nothing to live for that’s just for you anymore!” as being in keeping with Japanese attitudes towards one’s responsibilities once one joins the workplace, but even so, it’s pretty grim.
That Ninja I Hate (Beware of All-Caps)
O  This Edgeshot twist is dumb it is SO dumb.  I cannot believe I have spent the last 100+ chapters waiting for someone to tie that damn ninja around a tree and now he’s going to escort himself out of the story with a noble sacrifice that doesn’t even involve dying and could presumably be reversed in the epilogue with a heart transplant THAT’S RIGHT, HORI, DON’T THINK I’VE FORGOTTEN THAT HEART TRANSPLANTS EXIST.
Christ.  Edgeshot has never even interacted with Bakugou.  Why in god’s name couldn’t we have gotten Fiber Master working on muscle fibers and let Jeanist have this?  That would have actual relevance and weight.  This?  For fuck’s sake, it doesn’t even have the bookending quality of a hero who failed to save Bakugou in the first chapter making up for that failure now, because Edgeshot wasn’t involved with the Sludge Villain fight.
THROWING US A REVEAL ABOUT EDGESHOT AND JEANIST BEING SCHOOL FRIENDS AFTER 300 CHAPTERS OF COMPLETELY PROFESSIONAL INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THEM DOES NOT ASSUAGE MY SUSPICIONS OF THIS WHOLE ARC BEING ONE BIG RETCON, HORI.
My god, they wouldn’t even have been in the same grade: Jeanist would have been in his senior year when Edgeshot was a freshman.  And I notice Edgeshot wasn’t exactly leaping to use his own body to stitch up the gaping wound in All Might’s side six years ago, or become his bestie Best Jeanist’s new lung after Kamino.
This should have been Jeanist’s moment.  He’s the one who has the established relationship with Bakugou, the one who wanted to see what kind of hero Bakugou would become, the one invested in his future.  And as silly as Jeanist being able to use Fiber Master to do open heart surgery in field conditions would have been, it would have been far less silly than Edgeshot proclaiming that a super move that lets him piece others’ bodies—a move he typically uses on peoples’ lungs or center torso regions(5)—gives him enough knowledge to just set himself in Bakugou’s chest and be his hearIT’S SO DUMB I DON’T EVEN WANT TO TYPE IT.  GOD.
Further, as others have said, it’s a real cop-out on building any tension on Bakugou’s death.  No, I never believed for a second that Bakugou would stay dead, but seriously, two chapters?  That’s it?  All the drama and gnashing of teeth for two chapters?  This feels less like a planned story event and more like social media exploded so hard about Bakugou’s death that Horikoshi’s editor was like, “Okay, you need to get Bakugou back in the story now.”
It’s just real bad, y’all.  Two weeks out from the initial spoiler leaks and I’m still not over how incredibly, high octane stupid it is.
Odds & Ends
O  I am amused by the implication that the reason Shigaraki only recovered a small handful of bullets is that Ujiko only made a single perfunctory batch of them before turning his attention to aspects of their contents he found more interesting.
O  The close-up on AFO’s mouth is lewd the sort of thing I’d normally expect to be a precursor to some sort of breath weapon attack, but actually I suspect he’s just enjoying breathing without a tube down his throat for the first time in seven years.
O  First thing AFO does after regenerating is steal a cape off a doomed hero.  Truly, he is his student’s teacher.
O  Amused at Tim Star Wars and the Prez calling Tomura by his given name.  Do they think Tomura is Shigaraki’s villain name, or does Horikoshi just think all Americans are that forward?
Tumblr media
O  A typo for “rein in,” or the POTUS thinking the US should take command during these troubled times?
–-FOOTNOTES--
1:  Also a way that wouldn’t have required any subsequent dinner dates be between Ujiko and a man who, to all appearances, is some fifty years his junior.  It’s always so awkward when restaurant servers assume your husband is actually your son, you know?
2:  Anon that sent the ask about said theory, if you’re reading this, I swear I’m still prodding at a post about it.  It’s just trying to turn into one of my essays, is all.
3: Which I feel like raises some questions about cronyism in the HeroAca USA armed forces, but that's neither here nor there.
4:  All Might was an active adult hero when he saved her, which would thematically put him in the previous generation, but they’re also concurrently active when she grows up.  Also, numerically speaking, he’s in his mid-late 50s, while she’s 42—not a big enough gap to be generational.
5:  And would it have been so hard to dig up a panel from Kamino of Edgeshot debilitating Kurogiri, rather than use two pages from the same scene—the same chapter, even!—of Edgeshot blitzing the first wave of the PLF and claiming that as ample experience with body invasion?  “Yes, I have so much experience in invading other peoples’ bodies, from that one time in that one fight.”

Bnha manga thoughts 4
Manga spoilers up to chapter 350! Also some from Vigilantes.
This is about Touya's accident and the aftermath.
First of all, it's possible that it wasn't an accident. We know that AfO has a quirk that forces quirk activation and there's also the bees that made "instant villians" so it may have been provoked. He may have wanted to give him a scare like with Tenko so he'll leave his house and go with him but neither him or the doctor knew it'll damage him that much.
Then to those 3 years. These are my theories on how the doctor could have messed with Touya's mind from most to less likely in my opinion:
As shown on Vigilantes, Trigger has some side effects on its users that remain for a while after the quirk enhancement is over. It also shows that the physical changes can be permanent, but what if the phychological side effects could be permanent too? My idea is that it was used on him to help him fully recover his quirk but that prolonged exposition made his emotions and thoughts more extreme than they already were and essentialy got him stuck in a mania state.
The doctor erased or modified some of his memories to sharpe Touya's narrative as he wanted. He didn't expect even with that he would want to go back.
The doctor directly messed with the production of chemicals on his brain, augmenting or decreasing the quantity. He could have done this with meds he has access to from being an actual doctor... Talk about malpractice.

Had a realization- p sure Nighteye died in a hospital Dr.Ujiko controlled, right? Nomu doctor with the killer stache?
Think we might see a Nomu Nighteye?
Tumblr media
I know there's a precedent with Ujiko | Garaki nabbing Shirakumo's corpse, but no, I don't think Garaki would be able to repossess Nighteye's body for a Nomu. For one thing, Nighteye went to a nearby university hospital (C161), whereas Garaki's spheres of influences are (1) a general hospital of which he is the founder/chairman of, (2) orphanages and carehomes of which he has philanthropized, and (3) private clinics.
Now, in C167, it's shown that he has a closed casket funeral, so MAYBE Garaki could have arranged for a little graverobbing. But as compared to Shirakumo, Nighteye had friends in higher places. I doubt they would risk having his body stolen.
This doesn't necessarily negate the possibility of a Nomu Nighteye, but I think it's unlikely for Horikoshi to bring Nighteye back in any capacity except in the event of All Might's death (we all saw him ditching Naomasa; it's a nonzero probability).

have an very very old Shirakumo/Kurogiri fic idea:
Shirakumo died from head trauma. This is canon. He got his brain battered, and yet he was still used as the base.
So! Shirakumo POV where newly 'revived' Shirakumo is floating in a tank in a strange dark place, trying to make sense of his new surrounding-- especially trying to help this sad looking kid (whose demeanor and red eyes reminds him of...someone) he keeps seeing through the glass.
Aphasia is the impairment of formulating language - but intelligence remains intact. That's Shirakumo at the moment. Still, he’s trying to communicate, uttering broken words, tryna to talk to this kid. And this gets the attention of AFO and the Doctor, who gets a bit of fun ‘helping’ him regain speech. They start repairing his brain with someone else’s... thus Shirakumo slowly becomes this polite, eloquent guy.
But the more language he regains, the less ‘Shirakumo’ he is... all except this persistent desire to be considerate of the sad boy he watches slowly grows up, who is skeptical of whether those words are natural and real, or more of a sophisticated script like an NPC.

I decided to post this fic here (thus postponing for the thousandth time in a few years setting up an account on ao3) before I consider it a failure and decide never publish it
All for one and doctor ujiko fic for all fans of this ship
Just in case mention of a character's death
Sparklers
It's another day in a row that Shigaraki comes to my office with an unreadable expression on his face, sits on a chair and says nothing. We sit like that for a while in silence, each lost in his own thoughts until I break the silence. Usually I don't mind Shigaraki listening to what I say, it's nice to know that someone appreciates my views, but I have a feeling that these days are different from our usual routine. His eyes don't show that flash of excitement about the things I'm talking about, usually talking about meta abilities brings a smile to his lips. It's one of his favorite topics, after all. Everything changed after his brother death. Since then, every day he seems more distant, more cold. In the beginning, I gave him space to organize his thoughts and whatever people usually do after losing someone close to them. I don't understand it because I don't have such sentiments myself, death is inevitable. I know that Shigaraki usually doesn't have such sentiments himself, but the loss of his brother was something especially painful for him. Even if I find it weird considering that from the outside, they didn't seem to be close, but I know that it's not for me to judge, especially since I haven't had such a close relationship with anyone myself. I may not understand their relationship but I know what connects me with Shigaraki and what is hapenning right now is not what I want. I still don't know how to breake this new routine, but I know I have to do something before it gets to the point where something irreversible happens.
So when Shigaraki came to my office and sat on the empty chair, I looked at his blank face and knew it was time to do something, now or never. However, for some unknown reason, I felt very nervous. It must have showed on my face how I was feeling because Shigaraki gave me a reassuring smile. A feeling of warmth spread throughout my body as I got up from the table in search of something different from our daily routine. Somewhere in a heap of forgotten things lay sparklers. I don't know how they ended up here, but they're just as good a distraction as anything else. Tensely, I turned back to him and showed him the sparklers in my hands. Surprise on his face was almost comical.
- It is true that the new year has passed a long time ago but it would be a pity if they were wasted, don't you think? - I was the first to speak again and Shigaraki was silent but seemed more relaxed than before. I sat back in the chair, not a moment passed when I jumped in the chair suddenly plunged into darkness. I realized with affrighted that I hadn't turned on my computer or the lamp on my desk today. I don't have windows here because my office is in the basement so I couldn't see anything with the lights off. I'm not afraid of the dark, but the sudden darkness and the silence that accompanied it seemed unsettling to me. The sudden warm touch on my cold hand made me scream in horror. However, the hearty laugh that followed my scream calmed my nerves and I realized that it was Shigaraki who was trying to take the sparklers from me. I felt ashamed of myself. I wanted to stay in the dark longer to hide my embarrassment but Shigaraki lit sparklers for us and handed me for me.
- Why did you do that? - I wanted to repeat my earlier explanation but Shigaraki dismissed it with a wave of his hand - You don't have to lie, I know you too well to know that you don't care about such trivial things. So what is it about?
I smiled at his affirmative that he knew me well. In the light of the sparklers his face looks almost ethereal. - You seem upset lately, so I thought I would cheer you up Shigaraki - sama.
Shigaraki laughed slightly. His laugh is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard.
- I'm flattered that you're trying so hard to take care of my mood, but I'm fine. Don't worry about what you don't need doctor.
I wanted to say that his well-being and good is what I care the most but when he looked into my eyes I couldn't say a word. The intense gaze of his golden eyes made me dizzy.
- And if I remember correctly, we talked about my name. My name is no longer Shigaraki, I'm All For One.
Shigaraki is a beautiful name, it's my friend's name after all. But All For One fits him too. This name is the embodiment of his dreams, ideas, who he is and who he supposed to be, after all, everything has to be for him.
- I'm sorry - I whispered, my voice as quiet as fading sparklers. If All For One heard it, he didn't care.
We sat in blissful silence, even when the sparklers burned out, we were not bother by darkness. I stared at All For One the whole time and my thoughts revolve around him. All For One was still sitting in his chair, absorbed in his thoughts not caring that I was staring at him. I like to think that All For One likes the way I'm devoted to him and how much I admire him.
I didn't notice when the light was turned back on and All For One stood relaxed in the door way
- See you soon, doctor - All For One gave me a small smile before leaving.
- See you later All For One - I replied in a similar tone.
For some time I stared at the door behind which All For One had disappeared, still processing what had happened earlier. I feel happy. Thinking about how wonderful All For One is, I went back to work.

No one seems to understand the antagonist potential Kyudai Garaki / Daruma Ujiko has in MHA fanfiction or crossovers in general.
This man is a coward, hiding behind the scenes and using corpses of children and adults for his Nomus. He literally works with quirks and owns orphanages for his Nomus. He’s the chairman of Jaku Hospital — who knows what he could do with that alone?
Do you understand what he could do if he captured and murdered one of the UA students, turning them into one of his Nomus? Quite literally it’s possible that John-chan was made from the body of a child. What would stop him from taking Eri? What would stop him from not only somehow freeing Overhaul from Tartarus, but also restoring his quirk and turning him into a powerful Nomu? What would stop him from creating an entire Nomu army besides the fact it takes six months to create just one?
He is a literal threat to human society. I will advocate for more fics of this man. Why couldn’t Shigaraki just kill Re-destro and give his corpse to Garaki? Why couldn’t he do the same for Curious after finding her dead? Do you understand the DESTRUCTION, my people? Hear my speech!
