I have been reading old fedal fics because I am still not over Rogers last match, and it’s so strange to see how old fics predict the future and Rogers retirement (I feel like a time traveller from the future)

For instance, in ‘all the roads we have to walk’ a movie is made about Roger and Rafa called ‘Strokes of Genius’. This fic was written IN 2009, and 9 years later, in 2018 there was actually a documentary released about them called Strokes of Genius. Wtf is this witchery?

However, in this fic Roger retires after Wimbledon 2011. We got more than 10 years more??? How lucky are we???

And this is the prediction about their stats: ‘Roger Federer won seventeen Grand Slams, and established himself as the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport. Rafael Nadal played for four years after Federer's retirement, eventually gaining twelve Grand Slam titles, including three more French Open trophies, cementing his place as the greatest clay court player in tennis history.’

Somehow, reality is even better than some fic writers more than a decade ago dared to dream :’)

I feel like we fedal fans are actually rlly2 lucky, we're probably the only fandom where they actuallg fulfill and surpass even our wildest imagination lol, AKA not to blow our own trumpet but they love each other more than we love them loving each other

That being said tho, I truly, genuinely believe that their greatest achievement in tennis is not their titles or record breaking grand slams etc but how both of them changed the game in terms of longevity and consistency. It is INSANE how they managed to stay in the top 10 for more than 20 years and Roger winning a slam when he's close to 40???????

That's why I think, perhaps the seed of truth thaf "they made each other" better actually lies. I always thought in terms of careers it's just bullshit because obviously they would've had less competition and maybe won more titles if the other didn't exist, but I think a lot of ppl overlook this longevity aspect. They were able to stay THAT good for THAT long precisely because of each other. Rafa even said it specifically in LC that Roger and Novak motivated him to get back from his injuries every time, I think that's the first time I heard any of them truthfully admit it. Pretty sure Roger said the same in 2017, that he got motivated to come back also because Rafa was there recovering with him.

I think, in the end, the essence of truly making each other's career better doesn't really lie in quantity but quality and Rafa and Roger knows it. They could've won more titles, stayed longer at no 1 etc if the other didn't exist, but they wouldn't have played at that high a level, wouldn't stay at the top that long, and tbh most importantly, they wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as they did.

And by god how much fun did they have!!

re: the temperature thing, i think where you live makes a huge difference. i DO live in texas, i keep my thermostat at 80F in the summer, 70F is nice and cool to me 😅 but on the flip side, if someone sets the thermostat to like 60F i'm going to die of cold! your friends would probably make fun of me for being too cold too easily! 😂

you're incredibly valid for that!! you're absolutely right about temperature tolerance having to do with where you live/grew up/are accustomed to.

i think growing up in a very cold part of utah (during the winter, if i showered before school and had to catch the bus, my wet hair would literally freeze solid) definitely contributed to my heat intolerance. i also spent a lot of time outside in the snow in my youth.

the most comfortable temperature for me is between around 55ish and 65ish degrees. any warmer than 70 and i run the risk of getting too hot. i wish that was hyperbole but unfortunately it isn't 😭
