Okay, so I do appreciate the Stars’ away (white) jerseys and their Reverse Retro jersey looks sick. I admittedly hate the neon green Tron jersey and the accompanying branding. Sorry not sorry. Dont @ me. Also, I am totally biased because they’re like family or something when you’re born and raised in Ontario but I really just love the Leafs’ jerseys. Genuinely. I like the retro leaf better than the plain blocky one I grew up with in the 90′s. Strangely enough, I think the 50th year white Buffalo jerseys are clean af even though I don’t care at all about the Sabres. Aesthetically, I appreciate the logos for the Wild, the Jets, & the Canucks. The Ducks should stop being cowards and bring back the Mighty Ducks jerseys instead of the dumb foot one they have now.

Oh my god. I try to avoid superstitions because I am a very anxious person and that comes with lots of OCD tendancies. Plus, growing up in a sports family, you realise quickly that needing to wear the same socks or something for every game gets gross fast. I will say that I’m pretty sure I’m cursed because when I am in the room, the Stars will be scored against, and when I leave it, they will score. Sometimes if we’re down, I’ll go outside with the dogs for a few minutes just in case it works. Now you know who to thank whenever they score: my dogs.

this might make absolutely no sense but in light of the photo the isles posted on twitter of oliver at the belmont stakes i think at least part of the appeal of ollybee is that both joel and oliver have the MOST ridiculous muppet-looking smiles i've ever seen. like calls to like or whatever

hey, taking someone's pan-fandom fest (which is only in its second year, by the way), ripping from their list of prompts to make a fandom-exclusice fest set during the same time frame, and then tagging your fest as the same thing as their fest is a little... gauche. why not participate in their fest or actually make your fest hockey-unique? none of the kinks you picked are actually hockey-specific aside from the puns. why draw attention away from the fest you got inspiration from?

Hi! I drew inspiration from several different events including Kinktober, Kinkuary, and various fandom ship and kink weeks to make the list, as well as sprinkling in several kinks uniquely popular in the HRPF fandom. I wanted to include some fandom classics exclusive to this fandom, while also leaving options for participants who wanted something more general.

At the end of the day, it's not the list that makes it fandom specific, though, it's the works that get made and the people excited about making them, appreciating them, and celebrating together. I think there's value in centralizing and formalizing that! At the end of the day, having a little hockey cake next to the large pan-fandom cake means more cake, not less. 🙂

about ofm… i have to say i love the way you write connor as genuinely anxious or scared of being injured i think that’s a thing we rarely see people admitting both irl and in rpf but it must be something players (and players like connor particularly) worry about so it’s refreshing to see whilst also being very sad. thinking about connor knowing someone like crosby lost nearly 2 full years of his prime to injury, something like that must get under your skin

anon!! i legitimately opened tumblr right after posting chapter seven and saw your message and am now in my feelings; first of all, i'm so glad you're enjoying it. second, the push/pull of loving something that can completely and irrevocably fuck up your body and your life—and also, doing it for money, and doing it as part of the great organized sports machine—is something i find fascinating—there are so many incredible articles at the players tribune and elsewhere on this—and it is also, i think, an area where we are just beginning to see athletes speak up. the interplay of mental health, physical health, aging, tough-it-out culture... it all rolls together.

i'm trying to let that morass of tough topics inform my writing while (hopefully) not being too heavy or too uncharacteristic... it's a tight balance and definitely something i struggle with. crosby's situation is part of it for sure, as well as connor's own injury history, as well as—and this will come up later—several deaths connected to the oilers last season, including joey moss, walter gretzky, colby cave... and the pandemic, for that matter. but it was certainly part of the fabric of last season as a fan, and one has to assume it was—even moreso—part of the fabric of the season for the players.

hello i just had to to tell you that i read oil flame match about a week ago and i haven’t stopped thinking about it since. it has such a unique voice to it and i truly have not been able to get it out of my head i’m obsessed with the dynamic and just enraptured by the way you write it. the way you write the games as well is so tense and i enjoy it so much. of course no rush in your writing of it, just really had to tell you how much i love it, it’s so incredible :-)

ANON, 😭😭 first of all, i am so glad to hear you're enjoying it, bc it is something of a labor of love with emphasis on the labor, and also a lot of my thoughts/feelings/rantings about the nhl disguised in fic form. 😅

ofm is definitely a stretch project for me due to the length + quantity of hockey games + sticking to the season + meta-hockey-culture-narratives + cmcd pov... with regards to that last one, i am trying for an ~intentionally disjointed structure, which will get worse before it gets better, and i go back and forth on whether it is effective or annoying, so to hear it works for you as a reader is really really nice. 🥲 i mentioned this in a comment to @chevalric i think but one fun thing about writing cmcd is that his internal narration and his external communicating do not directly match—and ofm has a whole other layer of things he is either purposefully or accidentally ignoring. 😵‍💫 i have a lot of thoughts on his characterization, as well as the other guys.. though more of that will become clear soonish.

as for the games, i am someone who always wants more hockey in my hrpf so i figured i should walk the talk or whatever, but omg (and i've yelled about this before but) it really is like writing action scenes... so many action scenes. i'm experimenting with different ways of writing the games to see what works/doesn't, so if you have particular favorites/least favorites, feel free to let me know what worked for you, or what didn't!
