We have the same goals, and I like to think we have the same message to share.
I want to go to Amsterdam because of TFiOS and Thoughts From Places.
I would have NEVER known the plot/read the novel Pride and Prejudice if Hank and Bernie hadn’t produced The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (which I later read the original P&P novel this year). Even though I have never met Esther, I feel as though she’s one of my close friends.
After the videos John and Hank made for her, and of course TSWGO, I bought her memoir and oh my gosh. Esther is both hilarious and reflective upon life and what it means to be alive. Her book has shaped my own life as I reflected on her story.
There’s so much that I have to thank her for.
I have added so many more books to my “to-read” list, and have read books that I likely would not have tried had I not been recommended to them
The Crash Course videos I’ve watched for fun. No lie. I’ve learned so much from those videos by watching them, so I should probably say thank you to all the people that are a part of that team as well. They are a great resource for people interested in furthering their education.
I want to be a teacher, so a lot of the things that Nerdfighteria does are really awesome to me. The Crash Course videos I also have used to study for my finals--so I probably got a better grade thanks to them.
I have an AP exam in my Psych class coming up- that Psych section will come in handy Hank! :) I would have never heard of a Single Wizard rock band if not for y’all.
I think how John and Hank have handled being such huge successes with our community growing has been incredible.
John and Sarah went to the Oscars, a movie came out, and there will be a lot of non-Nerdfighters watching, and possibly becoming Nerdfighters themselves. I love that you both continue to promote beneficial things to teenagers with education and decreasing world suck. There are few people that are in a spotlight that choose to promote good messages, which make me really proud to support you.
I understand a lot more of current events because of how you both teach them on your channel. A lot of what goes on today is complicated and has spanned for decades, and it really helps to have you all talk about them.
Plus I think about those that have no knowledge of the world around them, and I think about how much your success can help those teenagers understand the world around them.
I’ll be honest- I love the books John writes and I love the videos you both create.
They’re witty and I go on YouTube pretty much just to watch Vlogbrothers, Crash Course, and Emma Approved.
I think part of the reason why I relate to you two the most is because we have the same goals.
I believe that education is the key to breaking the cycles of poverty that exist in our world.
I also want to make a difference in this world through my being on Earth.
I believe that everyone has a purpose to serve and that you should always pursue it.
We have the same goals, and I like to think we have the same message to share.
“What is the point of being alive if you don’t try to do something remarkable?”
I want to do something remarkable with my time on earth. I’m so glad that you want that too.
I hope I’ve expressed clearly through this that you both have made such a positive impact in my life. If I haven’t, you’ll have to forgive me. I’m not a writer, I can’t even keep a journal without abandoning it after a few days.
I guess you’ll just have to go off of faith. God bless and DFTBA.

Starting the morning off with some Vanilla Caramel Chai!!! Vanilla Spice scented mug huggers would pair beautifully with just this morning cuppa!! But which one should I pick? * TFIOS (part of the proceeds goes to support @tswgo! Also make sure to check their Shine Under the Stars Gala & their upcoming online auction, which I will also be posting about later today)! * Bees * Witchy All of these mug huggers can be found in my Etsy Shop!!! To top of my vanilla spice chai morning, I also lit a chai spice scented tea light candle by @ekp_creations!!! One of their Dragon's Blood candles & one of my cinnamon scented bookmarks also would compliment this lovely scented morning!!! #chaitea #teaofinstagram #teaandbooks #teacozy #teaofinstagram #tealover #tfios #tswgo #ekpcreations #scentedcandles #scentedmughuggers #scentedofinstagram #aromatherapyofinstagram #beesofinstagram #teawitch #witchesofinstagram #vanillaspice #craftbizparty #etsyoclock #etsyofinstagram #mjnwvip #handmadehour #handmadeofinstagram #morningcuppa #morningtea #vanillachai #tazovanillacaramelchai #teaandcandles #chailovers #teaaccessories https://www.instagram.com/p/CgM7kh4pOQM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi there John, this may be a very serious and/or random question (I’m shit with words, sorry), but do you remember writing the intro to This Star Won’t Go Out?
yes, of course!
(This Star Won't Go Out is a memoir by Esther Earl, who died of cancer in 2010 at the age of 16. In the last couple years of her life, I became friends with Esther and her family, and The Fault in Our Stars is dedicated to her. The book is fictional, and has multiple inspirations, but I could never have written it without knowing and caring for Esther.)
Esther's parents Wayne and Lori visited us here in Indianapolis last week. We had a nice dinner together and talked about family and memories of Esther and we told my son about the time he got to meet Esther when he was a newborn baby. It's always lovely to be with Wayne and Lori, who are such thoughtful and generous people.
So yes I remember writing the intro! I hope lots of people who haven't read Esther's book will discover at some point on their reading travels! And I also have to plug the charity Esther's folks set up in her memory called This Star Won't Go Out, which provides direct financial support to families of kids living with cancer. They do amazing work, and I've been lucky to meet a few of the families helped by TSWGO, and I just think it's a wonderful way to continue Esther's legacy of deep empathy.

August 3rd is #EstherDay, a day to celebrate and express the non-romantic love for friends and family. Tell the people you love that you love them!! Every day, I am constantly amazed by the endless love and support I feel from my friends and family. My deep and close friendships keep me going through everything life throws at me, and I never want my feelings to go unsaid. To my friends and family: I appreciate you, I'm grateful for you, and I love you. Esther Day was started in honor of Esther Earl, who passed away at the age of 16 in 2010 from thyroid cancer. Her parents, Lori and Wayne, founded This Star Won't Go Out (@tswgo), a non-profit organization that gives grants to families of children with cancer. If you would like to support This Star Won't Go Out, please go to: https://www.tswgo.org/ (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg1BIHWuP0p/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Esther Day!
Happy Esther Day - let your friends know that you love and appreciate them!!! 💜
"Since August 3rd, 2010, Esther Day has become a holiday that reminds us to verbalize our love for family and friends and let them know how much they mean to us." -- TSWGO on Twitter
"Esther asked that it be a day to say 'I love you' to family and friends--a non-romantic Valentines Day, if you will." -- TSWGO website
"[Esther Earl] came up with the idea of celebrating friends and family and love," Green says in an e-mail to USA TODAY. "The kinds of love that are too often overlooked in our culture: love among friends and family." Green adds that Esther Day "is about telling the people you love that you love them, even when it's difficult to do so -- in fact, especially when it's difficult to do so. We have a holiday for romantic love, but love isn't just about romance, so that's why Esther created Esther Day." -- USA Today TSWGO is "This Star Won't Go Out", a non profit organization started by Esther’s parents which helps families that have cancer-stricken children.

Thanks to Hank, I will forever remember what helicase is.
I first entered the Nerdfighter community after reading John’s four solo novels.
I’m pretty new to the community, but I feel totally welcome. My best friend was down for a visit, and told me that not only did John write books (she was the one who recommended his books to me in the first place), him and his brother Hank also has a YouTube channel.
I hadn’t ever really watched that much YouTube. One day, I sat down for about two hours and just watched a crap ton of Vlogbrothers videos. They were the first channel I subscribed to! Through the Nerdfighter community I have fully embraced my nerdiness. It is so easy to be completely myself when I can see people doing the same.
Through John I also heard about Esther and her book (This Star Won’t Go Out).’
I am so grateful to join and the Earl family for giving me the chance to get to know Esther. Through all of this I have been encouraged to get more involved in the online community, read LOTS of books, and just generally be more exciting and liking of people.
I am also a huge fan of Crash Course!
Thanks to Hank, I will forever remember what helicase is.
(like a teenage boy, it wants to unzip your genes)
Thank you John, Hank, and Nerdfighteria. Never stop what you do, and DFTBA!
- Ashlind

The Nerdfighter community helps me keep my view on the world positive. It’s also a very educational place, and I’ve met awesome people because of it.
With all the world suck that floats around, it’s great to know of a community that encourages and offers ways of fighting it, even if you can’t do the big things like vote or drive a car or donate huge amounts of money to charity.
I’m glad to be a part of it.

John and Hank have educated me on numerous topics. They have made me excited about learning and made me conscious of myths, jokes, and world issues.
The world is a better place because of them, and I am a better person.
Thank you.

Corey Folsom and his daughter, Olivia, 9, dedicated their run at the U.S. National Toboggan Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl to those who have suffered from cancer. They transformed their decades-old toboggan into a symbol of love--painted it pink, added logos, and painted on a list of names--including Esther's! Today, they flew down a hill with all of those memories! Here's their WMTW-TV interview:https://bit.ly/2E59uFH AutoZone #EstherEarl #TSWGO
