Someone has to say it : they knew what they were doing with Sora being so transcoded.
You can't just write all of these transcoded scenes in 2023 by "accident" – especially in a show putting random pride flags in the background to be "allies but we won't take too much risks". Intentional coding really feels like something they would do.
We have a character with pink hair who wears fake cat ears (we all remember the trans girls being obsessed with cat ears era, right ?), changed her name for one being meaningful to her, then ran away from an oppressive government and her unsupportive parents to join a found family. Also, her charadesign's color palette is pink, white and blue.
Not to mention the transcoded as heck scenes :
"Who's Ana ??? Her name is Sora !"
"That's my birth name."
"Oh... Well now I feel dumb-"
(Not the exact quote since I watch the show in french, but you get it)
The way Arin just immediately accepted she had a birth name different from her actual name ??? Just like someone who knows you're trans but didn't know what your deadname was ??? Like. Usually in shows, you would expect a big "you lied to me by using a fake name all these years" drama but here, he just couldn't care less. If this isn't Arin being an ally, then what is it ???
People knowing her from when she lived at Imperium calling her "Ana" just to annoy her ??? But even after learning her birth name, none of her friends ever called her "Ana" ???
The scene in part 2 with her parents and all ??? Hello ???
Her admitting she was still influenced by the fact she felt like disappointing her parents ? Then facing them but they didn't change. They were still thinking Imperium was right and all of the bad things they did just weren't true. Tried to convince her to go back after being horrible with her when she needed their support the most, and insisted on calling her "Ana". So she told them one last time her name was "Sora" then left ???
The whole moral being basically "be who you are" ?????
ALL OF THE SCENES. Her whole arc just feels like transcoding. I refuse to believe this wasn't on purpose.
Edit : feels like they're using a not canonically trans character to normalize trans experiences and I'm here for it

...fucks sake FGO just make a event about gender and sexuality.
This is such a Trans statement it's insane.
Resident Trans-Woman talks about how she had to lie about who she was instead to not be proclaimed a heritic, following about how it eats away at you to hide who you are, and how she doesn't want her student to face the same torture.
Mash who is also kinda Trans-coded with "not being a real girl" and her inferiority to "real servents"(girls). Along with her epic of Remnant story being about being a "real person(girl) but no longer being able to fight(oh hey HRT muscle loss).
This is so fucking Trans-coded, I'm not sure they could code it harder if they where trying.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Nimona stuff but nothing about Nimona being so fucking genderfluid coded. This is the genderfluid experience put in film, you cannot prove me wrong. Please discuss this genderfluid icon with me.
I will die on this hill

"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel."
This might be just me, but does anybody else think this is a little trans-coded? Because, if not outright trans, it certainly feels nonbinary. I definitely feel my "it/its" side being particularly validated whenever I think about this phrase.

I need to talk about how trans-fem coded Jay and her character arc are. Everything feels like it has a double meaning. Her family disagrees with her, to the point that it has driven her away from them. But she still loves her family, and doesn’t want to hurt them. The thought of “if I stay can I change their minds?” When is it no longer healthy to have any connection with her family. Her friends know about her struggle, but don’t always understand it. Sometimes they jump to conclusions and it makes things worse. She feels like no one else understands, but there are people (Drey) who have been through the same thing. And even if it wasn’t exactly the same, it’s someone who understands the feeling. The anxiety about just talking to family, especially her grandma and father. Finally being able to express interests outside what her family deemed was ‘correct interests.’ Her father referring to it as a “rebellious phase.” The imagery of her hair coming out of its ponytail. Constantly doubting herself, especially when she has to grapple with the interests of her family. Seeing an old friend for the first time in a long time and not knowing how to explain it, even if they are trying to understand. Trying to keep in contact with the few people from your past that haven’t ostracized you (her mom). Dose she make where she stands public or is it best to hide it as long as possible? The confusion. Knowing what makes you happy but not knowing wether it’s worth giving up so much for it. Finding friends who support you even when it feels like you’ve lost everything. I’m probably projecting but like,,, I love Jay Ferin

i feel like we need more compilations of characters being incredibly trans coded because if i saw that one Lake video early on in 2020 i would have had a lot less questions about myself that needed to be answered.

rose quartz was sooooo trans coded. she was born to carry out the tasks of a very particular role, and gradually become more uncomfortable in that role and being seen as that role, until eventually seperating herself from it, deciding her own fate and role in her life, and also giving herself an enormous rack. respect.

One of the most important characteristics of Mizuki Akiyama is her love of cute things.
Unlike many teenage girls who, by her age, may feel embarrassed about their passion for the color pink or kawaii culture, she thrives as a "girly girl," a teenage representative of the latest fashion trends and make-up products. She is cheerful and artistic, sensitive and kind. If we lived in a world where gender roles and binaries are less rigid, perhaps she wouldn't struggle so much under the glare of society's hefty expectations. I think of her all the time because I know her story well.
Mizuki is just like my brother, who used to sneak into my closet as a young boy to try on my church dresses. My brother, who shed hot tears when my father forced him to cut off his long hair. My brother, who went off to college and at long last, started wearing make-up to school and dancing in a cheer team full of girls who claimed him as one of their own. He has never been this happy, and I am grateful for his happiness and for his femininity, because my mother loves buying me dresses I'll never wear and make-up I'll never use. If I give them to him, I used to tell myself, I'll do a good deed. And, most importantly, I'll no longer have to worry about being a "good enough woman," both for my mother and for society at large.
According to American theorist Judith Butler, gender is a performance. To put it simply, gender is a book of rules, a game of chess, and all people should think twice about their gender and the hoops they jump through to fulfill those roles before they claim to be, for a lack of a better word, gendered the way they were assigned to be. As a glum teenager, I watched girls around me blossom into women, and while I identified with some aspects of girlhood (i.e. crying over a boy, trading secrets at the playground, and braiding each other's hair), I never aspired towards womanhood. Or femininity, really. It wasn't until I got older, after years of settling into a nonbinary lesbian identity, that I finally picked up a foundation brush and put on a skirt. Because by then, those things are just cute and beautiful to me, instead of womanly and intimidating.
I wish I could shout this from the rooftop. That I am free, and so many people should be, too.
Mizuki is just Mizuki, because gender is a friend to meet and a thing to love instead of an obligation to fulfill or a monster to defeat. Much like Tsukasa Tenma, who shines on a stage and carries that spark with him everywhere, gender is supposed to be euphoric. It's Mizuki, when she finishes sewing a new dress. It's my brother, when he puts on heels that actually accommodate his shoe size. It's me, when people call me "they" instead of "she," a "lovely person" instead of an "anxious girl."
I don't exactly know how Mizuki identifies or what her true pronouns are, but what I do know is that she is allowed to take her time. She is young, she is loved, and she is not a freak. If you are trans or nonbinary or anywhere under the umbrella, you are also not a freak. You can also take your time, then stomp your feet like a toddler when the world angers you because transphobic people are everywhere, and America seems especially fond of passing anti-trans registrations these days. Which goes to show, perhaps, that you are a miracle. And despite how lonely being a trans person can be, you're survival gives everyone else in the community hope and strength to keep going.
For some trans anger, I recommend you listen to Teniwoha's Villain, sung by Mizuki and Mafuyu. The lyrics are truly awesome.
For some trans hope, I recommend Toa's ID Smile, sung by all the N25 girls. The background of the 3D MV is so beautiful and relevant.
