Hello once again Ms. Campbell! Apologies for sending you so many asks, but this feels like the best way to provide feedback seeing as it looks like y'all aren't doing letters to the editor/creative team anymore (which is a shame, imo).

I just read 140 and while it feels a little... off? I'm attributing that to it having come out ahead of the issue that closes out the previous storyline. I'll give it another read through once Armageddon Game #8 comes out and I'm sure it'll feel better then.

Regardless, I actually really like the seeds you've planted here so far! Leo not really knowing how to be anything other than what he is, Mikey striving for more in his life, Raph's heartbreak over Alopex being expressed in anger and frustration at the current flux state the family is in, and Donnie spending a lot of time in the lab (I eagerly await to see what comes out of that... fingers crossed for magi-science turtle tots in the not so distant future).

IRT Alopex... Do people think she only exists as an accessory to Raph? She has her own life, personality, and motivations. It's a disservice to her as a character to expect her to hang around with the man who murdered her entire family just because her boyfriend is working with him. This is an entirely reasonable boundary to have! I dunno about you, but I've dumped people over far less than [checks notes] deciding that the guy that objectively ruined your life is your uncle now, kinda. Even if Raph wasn't going along with it, it's entirely reasonable for her to not want anything to do with the rest of them because of this.

Anyways. Looking forward to the continued adventures of the Claw Clan. I hope the weasels have fun.

I saw some hints at Seri/Mikey, and while I don't want to dictate what other people do with their art, I DO want to say that if Seri/Mikey does end up happening, I hope it's not for a while yet. Seri is still pretty new to the world having been artificially aged up and all, and she has SO MUCH going on, I think she needs some time to figure herself out and come into her own before she starts anything. I liked Seri/Mikey when it happened in Vol. 4 I think it was? but with the added context of her being artificially aged, I think it needs more time before jumping into it.

Oh what else... did I assume right that the cop arresting Raph was Monty Moose? or inspired by him? Cool beans if so. Nice to see Bob show up and provide yet another perspective on the whole mutation thing. The person who attacked that poor cat lady looked very turtle like... my money is on evil clone. Of who? Slash, probably. (feel free to skip addressing this to avoid confirm or denying spoilers. I'm just tossing things at the wall to see what sticks).

I think that's it for now. Looking forward to July which I have been mentally calling TMNT's Hot Girl Summer since SO MUCH is coming out then.

No plans at the moment for Mikey and Seri to hook up, although it's crossed my mind, of course.

And yeah that was Monty arresting Raph. Monty had already showed up during 125-130, he was Raph's deputy constable. Originally in my script it was just a generic cop but either my editor or Nickelodeon (I forget who exactly!) suggested it should be Monty at the last minute, and I ended up writing Monty into the next issue too.

Part 1: Premise

Aaaaah, you guys are so nice, responding to that meme post with honest to goodness asks about my WIP. ToT <333 Sorry it’s taken so long to respond—that meme posted from the queue in a very inopportune week. But! I HAVE BEEN CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO REPLY EVER SINCE. Thank you so much for the ask! Words cannot express my gratitude, truly.

My WIP is called "Stories for the Sea," and is the third in a series, the first two of which I wrote before joining Bleach Tumblr. The first one is Ukitake POV up through TYBW. The second is post-TYBW from Matsumoto’s POV, 60% of which is about gravedigging, because it’s what I do best and after TYBW probably also what Soul Society does best.

"Stories for the Sea" is multi-POV, also post-TYBW. Currently the summary is, Six months after the end of a war, you have not yet reached the end of the war. Buuuuut I probably have to add something more concrete if I want anyone to read it.

The two things that I wanted to write about were:

shinigami off in the backwoods having a campfire and eating stuff!!

wtf an ocean is like in Soul Society

So the way this works out is, Kyouraku needs to send parties out to renew diplomatic relations with things at the misty edges of Soul Society, to assure them that post-TYBW the Gotei is alive and well pls don’t invade us everything’s fine!!!! One of the most recent times these relations were renewed, Kaien, as Clan Head of the Shiba, led a mission to the oceans beyond the mountains that border Districts 1-3 of Western Rukongai.

One of the problems of course being that Kaien met an untiely demise, left no notes, and named no successor for this role. So Central 46 is like, all right, well, Rukia then. She was his protege and she’s a Kuchiki so we’ll roll with that.

Rukia’s like ROLL WITH WHAT because inasmuch as her fight with Aaroniero helped her move through a lot of Kaien-related feelings, there’s a lot left unpacked and Ukitake’s death certainly isn’t helping that feeling. Also she has no idea if they’re supposed to be renewing diplomatic relations with… like, merpeople… or squidpeople… or just straight up a body of water… or how she’s supposed to do that. But *she’s Kaien’s protege* so now it’s her job to figure the rest out.

Meanwhile, Mayuri is like, you know what would be great? is if we could use this mission to start collecting longitudinal data about all those people I dezombiefied! He sees no potential pitfalls here. Why does he think such data would be good to have? He will not be taking questions at this time. So the dezombified make up most of the Rukia Escort Squad, plus some tagalongs. Although Akon has absolutely no desire to do fieldwork, no one else in the Division wants to either, and he’s the VC now, so he has to go. Baby’s first VC mission, he supposes.

Renji is here to figure out whether they can futsal their way out of this one, guys, because absent the mandatory collaboration of TYBW the Vizard 1) might be interested in taking advantage of the Gotei’s shaken foundations to bring more of their vision to the organization, and 2) Kensei and Rose are at least 60% convinced the whole mission is a dump job and they are being disposed of. Again.

In any case, Mayuri’s handpicked motley crew is a little dysfunctional, and Renji’s goal is to keep it from being a lot dysfunctional. And also to make sure Rukia succeeds because. Rukia.

Hitsugaya is just here to do his job, as is Matsumoto. There are several things going on that are going to make that really difficult for them, in ways that Hitsugaya absolutely foresaw and also absolutely didn’t. Hisagi has no idea what his goal is, caught between his loyalties to his friends and to his captain and to general existential crisis.

So into the forest and through the mountains and out to sea they go.

hello hi!!! first of all i must say i'm eternally grateful for stumbling upon your fics on ao3 in my early days of playing ToT (less than a month i guess, too lazy to check rn haha), this was such a blessing, i mean, your writing is outstanding, to me you're a type of writer every fandom needs - keen in observing the characters and putting them to life, giving them additional depth with such skill. whew. anyway you're a blessing.

secondly i was scrolling through your blog here reading all i could abt marius because yeah, he's my #1 boy. lately i've been struggling with my perception of myself gender-related, not gonna go into detail bc it's not that important, anyways a lot of self-doubt and answers i can't find. but then. your posts about marius, the mc and your thoughts on their gender and behaviour, ways of expressing themselves, etc etc. and it had helped me enormously, you know. i tried many pronouns, names, ways of expressing myself, nothing clicked as right until i've read your posts about how both of them wouldn't care too much and just go as they are, i mean, i don't exactly remember the actual quote but you wrote how marius asked the mc if she's okay with him calling her she and miss and if she'd prefer any other pronouns, and she said nah i'm ok with miss still. and then i was like oh god wow, this exactly. i mean i don't HAVE to pick any specific pronouns or change my clothing style or start or stop putting more or less makeup on (im feminine afab and to put it shortly i'm ok with any look, gnc or not lol) it's just like that! that simple. so i'm forever grateful for this revelation, for the fact that i started playing this game and eventually found you. ty 💜 (also i'm sorry for my words choosing and whatever, english is my second language and i don't care much about grammar or sounding properly lol, and maybe if my message was too personal and i've dumped a lot of unneeded things on you. i'm sorry in advance for that also, you can ignore this mess of a message haha)

im just.....very very positively baffled to receive this ask at all. emphasis on positive. like i said earlier, ive been having a bad time irt how i feel about my writing kdsjbfsjg. most of it boiled down to the fact that not only is everything i make just like, not good writing, but also that it's useless and amounts to nothing.

and then i get this ask.

and it's not the first one of its kind ive received.

off the top of my head, ive received a dm from somebody telling me that my fanfiction years ago had inspired them to pursue writing in college and they were just accepted for a masters degree in creative writing. ive gotten a comment on a fanfic that said the story gave them the courage to confess to their crush and them and that other person have been together ever since. ive gotten asks like this telling me that my works helped them feel seen irt to gender, mental illness, or just like...being a person.

theres no way i can prove all these things happened in real life. ive got the messages and comments archived in chat histories or on this blog or on my ao3 comments, but these are words online, and stories can always be made up.

but if they are true then...huh.

it makes me feel honored.

im probably never going to get to the point where i'll see myself as a good person or where i stop doubting what i create, but if what i make can result in things like this, then man, what i think doesnt fucking matter. im not good but what i make can maybe, just maybe, result in good.

all this i ramblingly type to say thank you. from the bottom of my heart, thank you for telling me this.

On a light hearted note, i can imagine Kazoo having those poetic outbursts and Hakuno not understanding a single thing of what he´s talking about DHAKSJ

FACTS

Yana is from Marquette, Michigan—a friendly, scenic, and cold place on the Upper Peninsula. Her mother is originally from Japan and moved to the United States to attend university and she stayed after she met Yana’s father. Yana has an older brother, Mikhail (Misha), who was born in New York, but then a job opportunity cropped up for her father that brought the family halfway across the country and dumped them in Michigan.

Yana’s parents are hardworking, no-nonsense, and both functioning alcoholics. Yana and Misha’s upbringing was, as a result, a little distant and sanitized, and has led Yana to push herself as far and hard as she can in order to feel like she has done something right by them. But mostly, not much she can do catches their attention.

Enter: Broadripple Academy in her google search for “top prestigious boarding schools grades 9-12.” Yana dedicated the entirety of eight grade to cramming for the entrance exam and convinced at least half a dozen of her teachers to send letters of recommendation or to help her with the application. While the Montessori school she attended wasn’t bad per se, it didn’t have the stature a place like Broadripple Academy did. It was a ticket to a great college, to a great future, and maybe like… a hearty pat on the back from her dad or a congratulatory hug from her mom????

She paid all the fees with money she made from babysitting over the previous two years, forged her parents’ signatures (as she was accustomed to), and her parents didn’t find out she had even applied until she got the acceptance letter. Their reaction was, as per usual, lackluster. They condescendingly thought it was cute that she had done all this on her own, bragged to their friends about how they helped her get in, and then in the fall Yana was shipped off.

What motivates Yana is not perfection but success, and it does have the habit of driving her up the wall sometimes but that is just the kind of sacrifice she has to make in order to fulfill a goal. She is very future-oriented in that when she first arrived at Broadripple she had a bit of a I’m Not Here To Make Friends outlook (though undoubtedly made 2-3 really close friends within the first couple months and has assumed her role as Mom Friend yes hello these are wanted connections).

Her dad is an atheist but her mom practices Shinto and used to be a Buddhist. When Yana and Misha were young, she really immersed them in both religions. They sporadically attended Lake Superior Zendo back home until Yana was about twelve and they still perform Shinto prayers at home at a Kamidana.

She is really dedicated to their studies and heavily side-eyes everyone who doesn’t take school seriously. Like, guys don’t you realize how lucky you are to be here!!!

HEADCANONS

Back home, Yana has a pet ferret named Pasha. If you are a friend of hers, you know everything about him from the little snuffling sounds he makes while he sleeps, his favorite treats, and the “walks” through the park that Yana takes him on when she’s home. He is her baby and she misses him. </3

Yana is quite... economical (i.e. cheap as hell). Her brother made her a tie-dye shirt that says ‘Dollar Tree Prom King 2008′ (an inside joke). She really values independence and money = independence, y’know? It’s just another thing she doesn’t have to worry about bothering her parents for, so she works at a restaurant and babysits almost nonstop whenever she’s home so she has spending money while at school.

Which reminds me that she feels like an awful daughter for literally no valid reason. That’s just what checked out parents do to you, I guess. :/

Though she’s a very serious person the things she finds funny are usually bizarre, nonsensical memes and she particularly loves furby ones, especially the long furby blessed be his name etc etc.

She has a small crystal collection that she uses for things like concentration, energy, calmness, self love, etc. Does she sincerely believe they do anything? I’m gonna go ahead and give it a 50/50. She does enjoy the ritual of charging them and doing full moon stuff. Who’s down to bask in the moonlight???

When not wearing the school-regulated Oxfords or her standard pair of white sneakers Yana is, in fact, wearing a pair of light blue crocs. They’re comfy, okay!!! Also fashion-wise, she does wear a lot of monochromatic outfits. If you go to her Pinterest page that I linked above you’ll see what I mean. Nothing too weird just like, a Brand.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RETREAT

What do they think about The Retreat? Yana is someone who feels her goals are in danger and/or inconvenienced by the Retreat. She very much wants to be at Broadripple and she’s going to be worrying about her GPA and missed opportunities from not being on campus. It makes her uneasy and she’s anxious to get back tot he dorms.

Do they have any previous experience with camping or other outdoors? She was in the Girl Scouts when she was a kid and attended Girl Scout Camp for a couple weeks for a few summers, but other than that her family’s connection to the outdoors was pretty regimented in religious ceremony a lot of the time. But she did grow up with a lot of people in Michigan who camped and did outdoors-y stuff, so she picked up one small things but nothing that would be very useful at the Retreat.

What does their cabin bunk look like? How will they decorate their space? Yana isn’t a neat freak by any means but she does value organization. She has her crystals laid out on her bedside table (they are usually on her desk back in the dorm), a couple sticks of incense, and her clothes are all neatly folded and put away. She has designated a spot beside her bed for all her school stuff, and then she has a framed photo of herself and her brother propped up nearby (see here). She also has a tote bag of like, cheap crafts supplies to do in her “downtime” as a form of chilling lmao. She had more miscellaneous decorative stuff back in her dorm that she didn’t bring.

Do they believe in the supernatural? To what degree? In a sense, yeah, depending on your definition of what is or isn’t supernatural. Going to take a direct quote here but: “informed by Shinto beliefs around notions of animism — a soul (“reikon”) lives within all existence and phenomena. Everyday things — from objects to plants to mountains — can be defined as ‘kami’ or deities.” So in a sense that she believes in deities, yes. But monsters? Cryptids? Ghosts? Not really.

Are they easily spooked? Actually, yes asdkjn. She’s just very verrrrrry jumpy. It doesn’t take much to startle her honestly.

“ Oh my god Jerome. ”

Warmth lingers on his skin as a peculiar buzz pierces his eardrum - that might just be the ECHO of his thundering heartbeat. Maybe it’s his heaving shoulders, the bones popping with each deep breath - ah, he can’t remember sucking air like that before; then again, when has he ever felt so ALIVE ? Every memory prior to this moment is now colored in dull greys. Lungs struggle to catch up to a racing pulse, the veins on his neck pulsating vividly, despite the night’s veil engulfing them both.

Streetlight illuminates one part of his face, casting intense shadow past his browbone & granting one eye a sheer green hue; it compliments pale skin and paints his blood-stained figure in an eerie light; a ghoul blocking the blonde’s path, hunched shoulders and gaze glistening with MADNESS. His entire body rises and falls with each breath, rabid wolf with crimson foam bubbling around chapped lips. Air crackles with a soft grunt in exhalation; the inhuman stare might be fixed on alabaster complexion, yet it is unclear whether the ginger is capable of registering the image; it takes a glimpse to know his fragmented mind is elsewhere.

Yet, Harley’s shocked gasp nudges him out of his trance; if only for a moment. Silence reigns, the only noise coming from their racing breaths and a cricket in the distance, scurrying about a quiet circus camp. Haly’s sleeps, but the BEAST has just awakened.

It had been a running joke between them, up to this point; the blue-eyed acrobat never skipped a chance to poke fun at her comrade’s eccentric persona. They both got in trouble often, Jerome displaying more & more hints of something truly sinister lurking in the depths of his soul; perhaps Harley had identified with that, or maybe was drawn to the darkness. He had a notorious predisposition for violence. But, as in all romances around their age, one expects such things to fade with time; a boisterous young man at the prime of youth can be justifiably violent, after all. And Jerome’s natural charm & flamboyance made up for whatever traces of cruelty slipped through at times, painting the picture of a naughty teen that acted out against his horrible family life.

Perhaps he had been that person, once. And perhaps the truth had flashed a card several times, but never revealed his full hand; not until tonight.

“ Oh my god. ”

Safe distance is maintained, a wise choice on her part, though one could argue that it was surprise that kept her feet grounded rather than fear. Chin drips crimson on the soil as the ginger drags his feet a step closer. The Amusement mile Ferris wheel stands tall & dark behind them - they got stuck together up there once, but that seems so long ago now. Circus tents are orderly set up by Gotham’s cold waters, hidden in its shadow. Flies are swarming the hilltop in the distance.

“ What have you done? ”

Words may have never left the tip of her lips, albeit perhaps in the form of a whimper. Reality is hard to grasp, even for the likes of Harley. But there is no doubt that the question is purely rhetorical; Jerome’s expression alone confesses to his CRIME. Another stumble forward, light-headed as he is it’s hard to keep his balance. Instincts may have been warning the blonde to run, to call for help or at least try to save herself a bloodbath; but Harley stays - perhaps the sight of him drenched in red like a lion after its hunt holds something enthralling.

Face slowly starts to lift, revealing pale eyes & pinhead sized pupils that LOCK on her features like the red dot of a sniper. And then; some unearthly deep, raspy noise rises up his chest. Wheeze follows the vibration, his aura radiating true evil as another step forward is taken, slowly closing the distance between them. Throaty giggles gargle up his hoarse throat; shoulders shake with the atrocious LAUGHTER -

Though, upon closer inspection, the crooked curl of his lips tightropes the line between pained frown and devious grin; his brows quirk in an ambiguous manner and wet sclera pours warm, salty liquid down his bloodstained cheeks - it blends into red and shines in the light as it trails the length of his face. He is just as likely to be mourning in sorrow as he is to be crying with laughter.

Giggles fade to a whisper as he approaches, irritated eyes fixed on her frail form - she looks so fragile compared to him now, lamb to his wolf. Or perhaps he feels BIGGER than he’s ever had; and yet just as shattered at the same time. This conflict is as delightful as its painful; tragedy & comedy blend in a delirious laughing fit and Jerome doesn’t KNOW what he’s feeling, or even if he wants it to stop. His mind just allows it to happen, relishing in the aftermath of an adrenaline high - is he really a psychopath? Or is he as HUMAN as one can be ?

Head leans in as his gaze traverses across her features. Harley bravely stands her ground - perhaps on a deeper level she understands, even. Jerome wouldn’t know; he doesn’t even know why he called her out there in the first place ( help ? he needs to cover this up. he needs to hide her. ) , his voice calm & benign on the phone, as if they’d be going on some mischievous endeavor. Her rosy lips mumble something that’s lost in time and the tension of this moment. He can hear himself whimpering uncontrollably, sobbing in between chuckles, writhing on his feet as it gets harder & harder to draw a proper breath; hyperventilating. Maybe it spoke to Harley’s darkness or the pain in his eyes touched some well-buried empathy left in her system, but the more she stays, the more Jerome leans closer.

Soft fingertips trace a sharp jawline. It’s his cue to forcefully dump the bloodstained axe beside their feet and grab her face, smearing red on her cheeks. Hands shoot up to hover over his wrists, a tiny pant escaping her mouth - maybe her heart skipped a beat. Words need not be said, not as he towers over her frame with malice & wicked adoration showing through his EXPLOSIVE blend of emotion - ah, it really is overwhelming ! Fingernails clogged with dirt & dried blood curl into tender skin, squeezing her face in his grip as he forcefully pulls her closer.

It is then that their lips seal an omerta; metallic & salty blend of taste stains their mouths and a small whimper escapes him amidst the kiss.
