Greece and Wives (Patri Guijarro x Reader)
Tumblr media
warnings: none
a/n: based off this request here
prompt: little moments on vacation with your wife Patri.
Vacation with Patri meant different things. It meant some late, late nights walking the streets of Greece, and some early, early nights cuddling in bed and watching a movie on of the limited channels on the hotel TV. But it mostly meant just feeling good. You both shopped together, having fashion shows and figuring out what to buy. You would bicker on where to have lunch and eventually, you would win because she just could not say no to you. You would swap shoes with her when she decided mid walk that the ones you were wearing worked better with her outfit. Everything was perfect.
Day one:
Patri woke you up bright and early by opening the blinds with one big movement and then jumping on top of you in the bed. By bright and early, it meant more like 9:00, but it felt like 7:00 am and you most definitely were not an early bird. "Wake up, mi amor," Patri said to you, brushing hair out of your face and kissing you. "Mhm im awake, i’m awake," you groaned. She smiled down at you and before she knew it, you had thrown your arms around her and pulled her back down onto you. "We should just stay like this all day," you said to her, playing with the hair on the nape of her neck with one hand and dragging your nails up her back with the other. "We’ll get hungry," Patri laughed. "Room service," you said to her. "Baby… it’s Greece! I love you but-" your spanish girlfriend started saying. "I know, I know. Let’s go," you groaned.
Eventually you guys managed to leave the hotel and head out to a little café. Your hotel was a ten minute walk from the water, and the terrasse you ate at looked upon the ocean. You had planned out you four day trip perfectly, only having a small amount of time before needing to return to Barcelona to pack to leave for your individual training camps in preparation for the World Cup. The first day would be spent doing guided tours, looking at architecture and parks. The second day you would do traditionally fun things, like go to arcades and have a picnic. The third day would be a beach day and then the last day would be spent shopping.
"I knew Athens was old, but this old? And this… historic. It’s weird," you told Patri, hand in hand as you listened to a guide tell you about the history behind the Acropolis of Athens. "Barcelona is pretty historic, you know?" Patri said to you, smiling at you. "I know, I know. But i’m Canadian! Seeing cities with ruins and the ocean and cool architecture is always shocking to me. The most historical thing we have in Canada is like… the parliament," you sighed. "Hey, don’t hate on your country now, gotta represent them at the World Cup soon," she said, squeezing your hand. "I love Canada! It’s just boring," you defended yourself, pointing absentmindedly to one particularly well kept piece of the Acropolis.
After that tour, you walked around the city with no specific goal in mind. "Ooh! Gelato!" Patri said, pointing at a cute little shop with a pink gelato sign. "Woah… gelato before lunch? I like this version of you baby," you said to her, jokingly running your hand up her abs and kissing her quickly. "Oh shush. What harm will it do? The season is over, we’ll be under so many rules before the cup… let loose mi amor!" she said to you.
And so you did. That day, you had gelato three times.
Day two:
Needless to say, you and Patri were extremely competitive... which only made arcade games more fun. Once you arrived to a popular but pretty empty arcade due to the fact that it was Monday, you had an idea. "How about we make this interesting?" you said after choosing your first game. "Hmm... what do you have in mind mi amor?" Patri asked. "The person with the most tickets at the end of two hours has to pay for anything the other wants when we go shopping," you proposed. "Oh easy!" Patri exclaimed.
She was so wrong. Growing up with four brothers made you extremely good at video games, and somehow, luck was always on your side. By the hour and a half mark, you had almost twice as many tickets as Patri. "How the hell are you doing this?" she groaned, pulling out ten tickets from the machine as you watched about 60 pour out and into your hands. "You shouldn't have underestimated me," you shrugged. "Okay. I give up, you win! Im calling it quits," she groaned. "YES! I WINNNN!" you exclaimed as your girlfriend watched you throw your hands up in the air. "Yeah yeah," she said, rolling her eyes. "How about we put our tickets together and buy the rainbow monkey," you said, pointing at a pretty big prize hanging from the ceiling. "Hmm... okay. Do we have enough?" she asked you, pulling out a couple tickets. "Well with your 300 and my 1300, yeah, we do," you winked at her.
You bought the monkey and then headed outside. Patri swung her arm around your waist and then pulled out her phone. She asked a woman if she would take a picture, and your spanish girlfriend kissed you and held you close to her as the woman smiled and took pictures. "You guys are beautiful," she smiled at you both kindly. You both thanked her multiple times before continuing your walk. The next stop for the day was a picnic. You stopped at a deli to get cheese, bread, charcuteries, pastries, fruit and drinks for the picnic. When you arrived at a park with blossoming trees and tall green grass, you set up your meal and ate, laughed and drank, all underneath the watchful eye of an old oak, and the monkey you had named Zeus.
Day three: Beach day! This was easily the day you were most excited for. You had already gotten a tan from just walking around the warm city, but you couldn't wait to even it out on the beach. That morning, you woke up at 8:00, quickly put on a black bikini and white beach pants, did some light makeup and put on gold jewelry before taking your turn to pull Patri out of bed. You had smoothie bowls for breakfast along with coffee and a danish and then you headed to the beach. The day could not have been better. Patri took hundreds of pictures of you, and you took thousands of Patri. She looked so cute in her bikini, you felt as though you would melt.
After an hour of tanning on the surprisingly quiet beach, Patri sat up and placed her hand on your back. She gently rubbed her hand up and down your spine, making you smile. "You want to go swim don’t you?" you laughed. You turned around to face her and she smiled at you with puppy eyes. "Okay, let’s go baby," you said, jumping up and grabbing her hand. You both started running madly. Sand flew up, your laughs were heard throughout the beach and your smiled were so bright. But when you reached the water, you had to uphold your girlfriend duties, which meant stopping your run and pushing Patri into the water. Your girlfriend fell forward with a huge splash. The water got strangely deep very quickly so she stayed under for a couple seconds.
The spaniard came back up, spluttering and coughing. "Y/n!" she yelled, looking at you with a shocked look as you smiled innocently. "Yeah?" you smiled.
Before you knew it, Patri had grabbed your waist and lifted you over her shoulder. You kicked your legs and screamed all while laughing but the spaniard was strong, and your efforts did nothing as seconds later, you were submerged in the water. When you came back up, you wiped the hair off of your face and laughed loudly. You pushed against the current to stand in front of your girlfriend, your body pressed to hers. Her hands lay lazily on your hip bones as yours wrapped around her neck. "Truce?" you asked gently. "Mhm… how could I say no to that face," she said, kissing you lovingly.
Day four:
Shopping. You had been so excited to shop, it having always been something you loved to do. And so, after sleeping in until 9:00 and leaving the hotel at around 10:00, you had a quick breakfast and then headed to the busiest street in Athens. The whole day was spent walking into shops and buying souvenirs for your friends and family as well as trying on hundreds of different pieces, mostly payed by Patri. But she didn’t mind, some of the things you bought she would have killed to see you wear every day, so she didn’t have a care in the world about paying.
You were currently in a small boutique that sold very original and colourful suits, and as you would both be attending an award ceremony soon enough, you thought that there was no better place to buy an outfit. Patri chose a purple suit to represent barcelona, and to match with her you chose an off the shoulder silk purple dress. You were excited to wear it with her.
By the time you returned to the hotel, you both had five bags of clothes and souvenirs.
You dropped the bags into a corner of the room and plopped down on the bed. "This was the best vacation ever. Thank you baby. Thank you," you said to her, turning your head and smiling at her. She was laying down next to you and her smile was wide. Her eyes traced your features and then she close the gab between the both of you. You kissed her lovingly, slipping your hand under her shirt and passing your hand on her abs. "Cant believe I need to leave you for two months now," she said sadly. "I’ll call you every day my love. Deal?" you said gently. "Deal, mi amor," she said sweetly.

🚨 TOP TEN ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN (Hellenic) POTTERY SHAPES (and their best in show) 🚨
A lot of these are going to be from Athens. This isn’t because Athens is the best polis at pottery, but because most of the surviving material culture from Greek antiquity was found in Athens. This is just the facts of classics, deal with it.
10.  The Oinochoe ⭐️⭐️
This is just a pitcher. A boring boring pitcher used to pour wine. It could have been so much more. where’s the flare? I have nothing left to say.
Best in show: Wtf is he doin with that hog? Wheelbarrow racing? Just kidding, this is actually Herakles defeating that boar and bringing it to Athena. which is cool  but its still just a fucking pitcher. (~510 BCE Athens)
Tumblr media
9. The Alabastron ⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s a little vial/jug that holds oils and perfumes. BORING. Do more, be better. Alabastra  are the type of vase that wouldn’t stand a chance in a fist fight. I need a bad bitch piece of pottery and this shit isn't cutting it.
Best in show: This Etruscan alabastron. She’s cute! I too like to paint little cats. (620-590 BCE, Corinth)
Tumblr media
8.  The Amphora ⭐️⭐️⭐️
She’s tried and true. She’s a classic. She’s basic as hell. Amphorai have many uses but mainly they’re just glorified modern kitchen Pyrex. They just contain shit. Grains? ✔️ Oil? ✔️ Human Ashes? ✔️ Multipurpose icon, but it’s also the only pottery type with its own emoji 🏺 so she’s too mainstream for my taste. All my homies appreciate the amphora, but it’s never gonna be top 5.
Best in show: Exekias’ pot of mythic warriors Achilles and Ajax playing a lil game. How fun! I love a game night. (~540 BCE Athens)
Tumblr media
7.  The Stamnos ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The amphora’s cooler cousin. stamnoi are bad bitches all around. They’re stouter and are made to hold liquids like water and wine (and sometimes as diluting vessels.) They have the same powerful vibe as amphorai but they’re more underground, you’ve probably never heard of them before.
Best in show: Listen. Is she a little flawed? Yes. Is she serving cunt? Kinda. This stamnos depicts Dionysus and his maenads and satyrs! Rad as hell. (370–360 BCE Etruscan)
Tumblr media
6. The Volute Krater ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Kraters are wine mixing pots where water is added to super concentrated wines to make them actually drinkable. Kraters have many different styles but the best of them is the Volute Krater - just like a normal krater, but with fancier handles. They’ve got a very classic look I think, I’d want to hang out with one they seem like they have really expensive and classy tastes. The sugar mommy of ancient pottery.
Best in show:  What a pretty mother fucker. (~320 BCE Etruscan).
Tumblr media
5. The Lebes Gamikos ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So... This one is really weird looking and also really pretty. Has maybe the least practical lid I’ve ever seen but who can even blame it when it looks that pretty? A lebes would have been used as a cooking pot. A COOKING POT. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHIPPING THIS BITCH OUT TO MAKE MAC AND CHEESE????
Best in show: TO COOK WITH??????????? It’s got Eros on it and a smaller decorative lebes as the handle. So extra and for what? (350 - 325 BCE Apulia.)
Tumblr media
4.  The Loutrophorus ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
These guys are tall and skinny and potters liked to go ham on the handles. They were ceremonial vases that held water. They’re just really impressive. I mean just look at it. Potters and Painters got to go crazy on these things because they were only really used for big and important rituals and events so they could be as fancy and special as they wanted.
Best in show: I mean,,,, come on folks. This piece has the head of a woman on the lid and each side is decorated with tons of gods and goddesses. It is ornate, it was expensive, it is a fucking queen. (330 BCE)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. The Kylix  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Perhaps a little over rated but definitely not as overhyped as the amphora, the kylix is a wide shallow pot used for sippin’ on drinks in super style. They have painted eyes and when you drink from them the eyes become part of your face and the handles look like ears. This is life changing information. These bitches are big and dramatic, much like me. They were really popular in Mycenean Greece (before the dark ages that birthed the classical Hellenic period we all know and love -- the ancient Greece of ancient Greece) which just screams Scorpio energy; how mysterious and cool of them. These baddies have art not just on the outside, but the inside too!
Best in show: Reminds me of that crazy look anime characters get when they’re about to go off the rails (~510 BCE Athens.) a second less cool kylix is also pictured to show you what they would look like when you drank from them. Hilarious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. The Pyxis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pyxides are the unsung hero of ancient pottery. Most pottery charts will not feature them. But Pyxides are a girl’s best friend.
The pyxis serves as a little jewelry box, a little box for all your trinkets, a little makeup kit. This is the fun type of versatility (👀🏺 get good amphora) These little guys sit on your ancient vanity and open up from the top with a fun shaped handle. Because they were made for women we get a lot of cool insights on women’s lives (and a lot of wedding stuff) in antiquity from these little guys!
Best in show: THIS pyxis depicting a bride preparing for her wedding. Outside she takes a little bath with Eros (winged god of love who later becomes our modern Cupid) and inside he sits on her lap. Talk about a wing man! (~410 BCE Athens.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. The Kantharos  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you don’t think a kantharos could steal your girl you’re wrong. These bitches have everything you could ever look for. They’re smaller drinking cups that were most likely used for rituals due to how crazy ornate most of them are. Some of them are even molded to look like heads, that is simultaneously really badass and also very unserious!!
Best(s) in show: A classic ornate kantharos with silver plating depicting the death of Orpheus and the kidnapping of Helen. Look at how fucking GORGEOUS it is (~415 BC.)  And a head kantharos (also called a janiform kantharos as they have two faces!) of a satyr and a woman. Imagine drinking from this I would feel so powerful (420 B.C. Athens.)

Aphrodite
Now he was here, staring out of the large doors that led to one of the many balconies in the villa she’d booked them, he had to agree that she was right - this was the perfect place for them to have their honeymoon.
Words: 4.2k
Warnings: Smut - 18+ (this might actually be be smuttiest thing I have ever written)
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
Santorini had been her idea.
Letting Emily choose the honeymoon had been his way of calming her down at the level of her mother’s involvement in their wedding. A balm to soothe her irritation. Something he could whisper in her ear about when he could practically see her considering matricide. It made sense to let her choose for multiple reasons, but mostly because she was significantly more well-travelled than him. He’d never left the USA apart from when he was working in Pakistan, so had very little to go on.
When she’d first told him about where she wanted to go, a small Greek island she’d never been to before, he’d been up for it. The idea of spending time with just her on a beach somewhere was enough to please him.
Then she’d told him it would be two flights. A ten-hour one to Athens, a four-hour layover, and then another hour's flight to the island. He’d been a little hesitant, not a fan of flying commercially at the best of times, but she’d talked him into it.
She’d always been able to convince him of just about anything when she was naked.
Now he was here, staring out of the large doors that led to one of the many balconies in the villa she’d booked them, he had to agree that she was right - this was the perfect place for them to have their honeymoon.
A part of him wonders just how much this cost her, but he knew he was better not knowing, well aware that she considered this her gift for them. As if she wasn’t enough of a gift to him herself.
He vaguely hears as Emily thanks the concierge for bringing their bags to the villa, a peaceful lilt to her voice he so rarely got to hear. Most of his attention is on the view in front of him, on the bright blue seas he’d only ever seen in photographs that clearly had not done it justice. It was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. He hears the door to the villa close and he turns to look at his wife, smiling as she stretches her arms above her head, her linen shirt rising up a little to show a sliver of pale skin above the line of her yoga pants.
He looks back at the view from the balcony, the sky and the sea almost merging in front of him, only broken up by the town beneath them, and he smiles.
It was almost the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
Emily approaches him from behind, her hand patting his stomach as she stands beside him. He wraps his arm around her and pulls her close, kissing the top of her head as she settles against him.
“Wasn’t this worth the two flights, Mr Grumpy?” She asks, tilting her head to look up at him, a wide smile spreading across her face.
“I wasn’t that bad,” he replies, and she chuckles, hooking her hand around the back of his neck to drag him into a kiss.
“I’m surprised the poor check-in agent in Athens didn’t turn to stone, honey,” she says, kissing him again. She pulls away and rests her head on his shoulder, looking at the view in front of them, “I’m glad we made it.”
He trails his hand up and down her side, his fingers finding their way under the hem of the linen shirt she’d travelled in, “I made it clear to everyone that unless the FBI is actively collapsing without us there they aren’t to contact us.”
Emily chuckles and turns her head to press a kiss to his clothed shoulder, “I don’t know what it says about me that I enjoy it when you threaten people for me,” she hears him take a breath, poised to respond with an answer she’s sure would rival some of their best profiles, and she reaches up and covers his mouth, “I don’t an answer thank you very much, let’s not pull at that thread,” she rolls her eyes when he kisses her palm, and she pulls her hand away, “Anyway, that isn’t what I meant,” she smiles shyly at him, biting the inside of her cheek, “I’m glad we made it.”
Aaron smiles at her as what she means sinks in, washing over him like warm air on a spring day, as if she was the sun shining on his face, the break of dawn after the longest night. They’d been through so much, together and apart, to make it this far. To be together and loved and happy in the way they’d both deserved but been kept from for so long. They’d found each other even hidden in plain sight and he liked to believe everything had led him to this, to her.
Against all odds, they’d made it.
“Me too, sweetheart,” he says, turning her in his embrace so they are facing each other, his hands firm on her back as he holds her close. He leans in for a kiss, something she gratefully returns, and he smiles when he eventually pulls back for air, “Come on,” he says, stamping another kiss against her lips and reaching for her hand, tangling their fingers together, “I seem to remember the brochure saying something about a jacuzzi tub.”
___
They spend the first couple of days getting used to the time difference. Hours spent in their own private pool or napping together, wrapped around each other with the windows thrown open as the sea air surrounds them. They video-call Jack to speak to him on the third day, the little boy thrilled to see them both even if it was just on Jessica’s laptop screen.
“I wish I was there,” Jack says, pouting ever so slightly, and Emily grasps her husband's hand, her thumb rubbing back and forth over the back of it, silently stopping any guilt in its tracks before it can bloom, “I bet the pool is so cool.”
Emily laughs, “It is very cool, sweetie,” she says, winking at the young boy over the screen, “I can’t stop your dad from dive-bombing into it.”
Jack joins in on her laughter, the mental image of him jumping into the pool like that as funny as it was ridiculous, and Aaron shakes his head.
“Daddy, you don’t have time to be dive-bomb into the pool,” Jack says, turning serious, a frown on his face that never failed to remind Emily of Aaron.
Emily and Aaron exchange a curious look before returning their attention to the laptop in front of them, “What do you mean, buddy?”
“Uncle Dave came over and helped me with some of my homework,” he says, speaking with such excitement his words start to trip over each other, “And he said you two will be busy making me a little brother or sister-” Aaron chokes on the sip of his beer that he’d just taken. Emily pats his back, covering her reaction with a cough, but Jack carries on as if he hasn’t noticed, “But I would prefer a sister if thats ok?”
Emily recovers first, her hand still rubbing circles on her husband's back, “We’ll keep that in mind, honey.”
Once the call has ended, the laptop shut, Aaron sinks back into the couch, his hand over his eyes as he sighs, “I am going to kill Dave.”
___
Emily had always been beautiful to him, even back when he was married to Haley. When he looked back on it now, Aaron knew that was likely what caused some of his hostility towards her. Fury that he could, and should, have directed inwards for being so captivated by Emily when his marriage was starting to crumble around her.
She’d always been beautiful to him, but seeing her here, free of the day-to-day pressures of their life and the awful things they saw in their work, her beauty was somehow enhanced.
They walk the streets of the local town, their fingers linked together as they wander through the markets and he lets her lead him everywhere. All he can think is how at home she looks. How she looks almost ethereal in her sundress with her hair thrown up in a bun out of the way. Her skin tanned and her freckles spread in places even he didn’t know she had them, a new thing for him to explore at any given hour when it was just the two of them in their clifftop villa.
It almost felt like he was seeing her in her natural habitat as if this was the life she was supposed to live. Unburdened by what life had thrown at her as she smiles at a local vendor and speaks in what Aaron knows she’d call ‘passable’ Greek.
She turns and smiles at him, her eyes sparkling as she shifts her sunglasses to rest on top of her head, and he knows there and then he’d give everything up just to see her smile like that all of the time.
___
“I can’t believe we have to go home tomorrow,” she laments, leaning against his chest as she looks out at the sunset from their balcony, the beauty of it all the more spectacular because of the privacy in their villa, making it feel as if the sun was putting on a show just for them. “I wish we could stay.”
Aaron catches her under her chin with a crooked finger and makes her look up at him, immediately catching her in a kiss, “Would you stay? If we could?”
She stares at him, smiling fondly as she stamps a kiss against his lips. She takes his glass of champagne from him and places it along with hers on the table next to them.
“It would be nice in theory,” she says, hooking both of her arms around his neck, trailing her fingers through his hair, “You, me and Jack living our lives somewhere like this every day,” she bites her lower lip, her eyes trailing over his face, mapping out everything she’d memorised so long ago, “But we’d get so bored honey.”
He laughs, the sound light and loud as it leaves him, her words as unexpected as they were true. He draws his hand down her spine, counting the notches as he goes, and he nods. “You’re right.”
“So bored,” she repeats, giggling in a way she’d later deny as she presses herself against him “I love our lives,” she looks around her eyes drifting to the sunset, the backdrop of the last week, “We both love our work and let's face it that team needs at least one of us around or they’d flounder.”
“I think Dave would have something to say about that,” he replies, removing a hand from her back to tuck some of her hair behind her ear, and he idly thinks about how he’ll miss the natural wave to it. The way the heat and the sea air had made her hair look over their time here, something she’d never let it do at home.
“Let him say it,” she quips, raising her eyebrow at him, “We should do this again though. Not a honeymoon obviously, but a vacation. You, me, Jack,” her cheeks ache as her smile gets impossibly wider, the happiness she felt still surprising to her sometimes, “Anyone else who might come along.” He kisses her because it’s all he can think of doing, his love for her so overwhelming that the mere thought of having a child with her was enough to make him burst. She chases his kiss as he pulls away, “Now, we’ve only got one night left,” she says in between kisses, her hands shifting to wrap around the lapels of his shirt, “We’d best make the most of it.”
She kisses him fiercely, her tongue swiping across his bottom lip. She tastes his groan as he opens his mouth, deepening their kiss as one of his hands drifts from her lower back to her ass, squeezing it and pushing her impossibly closer towards him, her hips against his. She moans as his fingers drift, dragging the light, billowing material of her dress across her.
He practically growls as he pulls away from the kiss, his breath ragged as he tries to fill his lungs, as he feels how wet she is even through her dress.
“No underwear?” He asks, his other hand trailing up to her shoulder, moving one of the thin straps of her dress down her arm, carrying on until he exposes one of her breasts, confirming that she was wearing nothing under her outfit.
“Didn’t seem necessary,” she huffs out, her breath catching in her throat as he leans in and kisses her collarbone, licking down her skin until he reaches her nipple, pulling it into his mouth and sucking in a way that has her grasping at the back of his head. Her fingers tight in his hair as she battles between holding him close and pulling him away, furious and slightly delirious that he was able to make her feel this way after so few touches.
“That was a fancy restaurant,” he comments, moving to her other shoulder and repeating the same action, following the soft material of her dress across her skin with his lips and teeth, leaving marks she’s grateful her work clothes will cover in the coming days. She hums in response, rolling her hips against him as he pulls her dress down to her waist, exposing her chest completely. He pulls back and grins at her, mischief and desire sparking in his eyes, “You’re naughty.”
She pulls him up to kiss her, groaning at the scratch of his shirt against her now sensitive nipples as he heaves her closer, and she bites his lip as she pulls back, “I can be very naughty if you want.”
He chuckles and wraps his hand around the back of her neck, kissing her softly, before he pulls back, “I’m not fucking you on this balcony, Em.”
She pouts, something she would later deny, but lets him lead her the few feet back towards their bedroom, “Why not,” she asks, leaning her head back against him as he crowds her from behind, his lips trailing down her neck, “If anyone was looking they just saw my boobs anyway-”
He cuts her off, turning her in his arms as soon as they are back in the master bedroom, pulling her tight against him, “Because one day, I’d quite like to bring you back here, and that means not getting banned from this island,” he kisses her in between his words, “And you’ve been sunbathing topless out there all week.”
She smirks at him, reaching for the zip of her dress and pulling it down, letting the material fall down to her feet, “To avoid tan lines.”
He looks her up and down, his eyes lingering on the paler patches of skin across her hip bones, before he looks back at her face, “Not all the tan lines.”
Before she can respond he’s on her, gathering her up against a nearby wall. He lifts her up just high enough that he can put his thigh between hers, her toes skimming the ground as her weight presses her into him, the roughness of his jeans and the tensing of his firm muscle beneath giving her the friction she’d been after. In any other situation, she’s sure she’d be embarrassed at the almost guttural groan that leaves her, but it had been like this all week. They had always been desperate for each other, prone to ripping clothes and fucking before they were fully naked, but their honeymoon seemed to have taken it to new heights.
He smiles at her, pushing his leg further into her, making her gasp out his name, and pride flushes in his chest that this woman, this beautiful woman, was all his.
“Look at you,” he says, trailing his fingers the valley in between her breasts, and across the scars just beneath her ribcage, “So pretty.”
“Fuck,” she chokes out, her hands grasping at his shirt as she rolls her hips over his jeans, “Please, Aaron.”
He smiles once more before he removes his leg from between hers, and her cheeks burn as she sees the wet patch on his jeans, but she has no time to think about it any further because he suddenly has his thumb on her clit, rubbing rough circles as she has no choice but to cling to him, worried she’d fall if she didn’t. He pushes two fingers inside of her, the pace he sets unrelenting as he curls them just right, making her gasp against his skin, her face buried in his neck.
It’s an assault on her senses, every nerve set on fire as he whispers praise against her temple, tells her how good she feels, how lucky he is to have her. She finally tips over the edge as he palms one of her breasts, rolling her nipple between his fingers in tandem with his other hand on her clit and inside of her. It rocks through her, and she knows she would have lost her footing if he wasn’t holding her up, his hand almost slipping from her waist as he moves it to catch her, his fingers dripping with her.
She reaches for his face with a shaky hand, pulling him in for a kiss that is somehow both soft and desperate, and she laughs as she comes back down, her body pleasantly buzzing.
“Are you ok, sweetheart?” He asks as he pulls back, pushing some hair that had fallen into her face out of her vision, and she nods, capturing his lips in another kiss before she looks at him.
“I am more than ok,” she stands up straight and presses her hands onto his shoulders, pushing him towards the bed across the room, “Your turn.”
He kicks off his shoes as he goes, and is unbuttoning his shirt by the time he sits on the bed, disposing of it next to him as soon as it’s off. Emily follows him, only a few paces behind, and she kneels on the floor in front of him, a familiar glint in her eyes as she leans in to kiss him, only doing so briefly before she kisses down his throat and chest, paying special attention to the thickest of his scars as she goes. When she gets to his belt she winks up at him, undoing it and his jeans in almost record time. He shifts his hips just enough to help her pull his jeans and boxers down, kicking them off when she pulls them down to his ankles.
Aaron groans as she grasps him, pumping him up and down, and he leans back, his palms against the soft bedspread. He thrusts almost involuntarily as he feels her mouth close around him, his self-control waning as she bobs up and down, taking him deeper into her throat. He grasps at the sheet beneath him, sure he would rip it if he held it any tighter, and he didn’t want to have to explain another ruined bedspread to the housekeeping staff.
“Fuck, Em, you’re so good at that,” he says, the words almost punched out.
She looks up at him and she groans at the sight of him, the way she could reduce him to this, and she hears him moan again, the vibration around him only heightening the pleasure. She pulls away to heave in a breath, and is about to carry on when he stops her, a hand on the back of her neck as he encourages her upwards, tugging her to straddle his lap.
“Aaron-”
“Later,” he promises, kissing her and tasting himself on her tongue, “Later, but right now I want you.”
He flips them over, pressing her into the mattress as he works his way down her body again, making her shiver as every nerve is pushed to its limit. He presses his lips against her hip bone, tasting the salt on her skin from her sweat. He runs his thumb over the stark line caused by her bikini, stroking her pale skin that hadn’t been touched by the sun, a piece of her that was just for him.
Emily throws her head back, clenching her thighs together for some friction as he continues to tease her, the sensation of his calluses against her skin enough to set her on edge, “Aaron,” she breathes out, grateful when he doesn’t tease any further, a hand on each thigh as he pushes them wide apart.
His eyes linger on bruises he’d left in the last few days, gently kissing a couple of them before he presses his tongue to her clit, making her entire body jolt.
“Shit,” she exclaims, a light sparking in her belly as she thrusts against his face. He does it a few more times, drawing her nearer and nearer the edge, and then she stops him, her fingers tugging at his hair to draw him upwards, and she smiles at the confused look on his face, “Later,” she says, pulling him in for a kiss, “Right now I want you.”
He grasps her waist when she uses his own words against him and he smiles, nipping at her neck as he positions himself over her. He links one hand with hers next to her head and uses the other to heave one of her thighs over his hip. Both of them groan as he notches over her and he presses his forehead against hers, murmuring words of nonsense she feels more than hears.
She reaches between them and guides him into her, gasping at the familiar stretch. She moves her hand to grasp at his back, her nails scratching at his skin.
He fucks into her slowly at first, taking his time to build her up, giving her no choice but to feel every inch of him.
“You feel so good, sweetheart,” he rasps out, groaning as she clenches around him, “So fucking good.”
She wraps her leg tighter around him, her heel digging into his lower back, a wordless attempt to try and make him move faster, deeper. She moans, the breath stolen from her with every thrust. It had always been like this. Overwhelming in the best way, her entire body and mind at his mercy. She knew it was the same for him, that she had complete control over him too. It was give and take, just like every aspect of their relationship had always been.
“Aaron.”
He knows what she wants with just the simple use of his name and the way she gets impossibly tighter around him. He increases his pace, setting a punishing rhythm that makes her grasp onto him even tighter, her nails breaking the skin on his back.
It starts in her belly, a fire that had never entirely gone out spreading from there outwards, every nerve ending in her body tingling.
“Close,” she gasps, and she knows he is too, his rhythm getting faster. He lets go of her thigh and reaches between them, rubbing at her clit, “Fuck.”
“Come on, sweetheart,” he grunts, burying his face in her neck, “Come for me.”
She lets go, taking him over the edge with her, his hips stuttering as he comes deep inside her, his teeth biting into her neck as he does, leaving a mark he knows she’ll tell him off for in the morning. They lay there for a moment, catching their breath before he shifts to look at her, a smile on his face as he leans in for a kiss. She smiles into it, a breathless laugh escaping as she lets her leg fall to the bed.
“I’ve got to say,” she says, her voice raspy, “I’ll miss the honeymoon sex.”
He laughs, kissing her nose and then her cheek, “We have amazing sex no matter where we are, sweetheart.” She smiles at him, her eyes full of love as she looks up at him, and a spark in her eyes he can’t quite place. “What?”
“Nothing,” she says, pressing her finger into the bridge of his nose, smiling as she does so, “You have a bit of sunburn, that’s all. At least the others will know we left the room occasionally.”
Aaron smiles and kisses her once more before he rolls off her, taking her with him and gathering her against him, “What time is the flight tomorrow?”
She grumbles as she rests her head on his chest, “10 am,” she mutters looking at the clock on the nightstand, “It’s only just before 10 pm now.” She squeals as he moves them again, sitting up and taking him with her, his arms tight around her back.
“So, what you’re saying is,” he says, leaning in to kiss her neck, soothing a bite mark he’d left behind, “We have time on our hands.”
She giggles, the sound turning into a groan as his hands start to wander again, smoothing over sensitive skin. She pulls back to look at him and pushes his hair back, her smile brighter than the sunset they’d missed most of.
“All the time in the world,” she replies, leaning in to kiss him as the rest of the world apart from the two of them disappears.

Chapter 3 ~ The Final Task
Tumblr media
Once more, Kratos liberated the ship of the undead minions, yet before him lay people - Slaughtered like animals, the victims lay before him... A reminder of his own past. A past, from which he could never escape. His only solace was the sea, endlessly sailing from one harbour, to the next, in service to the Gods of Olympus. All his hopes rested within. For ten years, he was their martyr, their puppet, but the nightmares plaguing the Spartan were growing far more painful with each day, and he was swiftly losing patience.
"Athena!" the warrior cried out into the sky, exiting his cabin in the ship, to speak to the statue of Athena. "For ten years -- I have faithfully served the Gods for ten years! When will you relieve me of these nightmares?" he asked accusatory, angry that no matter his hard work, his reward was never given to him.  "We request one final task of you, Kratos. Your greatest challenge awaits, in Athens, where even now, my brother, Ares, lays siege as we speak. Athens is on the verge of destruction - It is the will of Ares, my great city fall. Zeus has forbidden the Gods from waging war on each other - That is why it must be you, Kratos - Only a mortal trained by a God has a chance at defeating Ares." the statue of Athena spoke, laying down the task for her champion. "And if I am able to do this - To kill a God - Then, the visions... They will end?" his voice softened, having, for the first time in ages, a thread of hope dangling before his very eyes.  "Complete this final task, and the past that consumes you will be forgiven. Have faith, Kratos. The Gods do not forget those who come to their aid." thus, leaving the rotting carcass of the Hydra behind, Kratos set sail once more. His greatest challenge, and freedom from his growing madness, lay before him, in the ancient city of Athens, battling many a foe on his way.
In great haste, Kratos ran up the stairs, on the Way to Athens, and as he reached the top, he noticed a familiar silhouette of a woman with red hair, so long that it almost reached the ground, with various coloured flowers braided into it, and her dress was of the most expensive linen, embroidered with gold and dyed a deep green, just like the forest. Though it was not sheer like Aphrodite's, the lineout of her attractive silhouette could be seen. Still, as the champion stepped next to her, he couldn't help but wonder - What was the Goddess of Nature doing in a place like this? If Ares was the God of War, Katrina might as well be the Goddess of Peace and all things nice. The battlefield was no place for the kind.
"I see you have arrived faster than I expected, Kratos. I pray your journey was not a tiresome one." her voice was sweet like honey, Kratos always thought so, yet now, more than ever, her sadness was obvious. While some revelled in war, she could not stand even the idea of it. "It was fine. What are you doing here? I did not call for you." for some, such a statement would sound hostile and aggressive - But not for her. Instead, she turned to face him, and met him with a small smile. "Must I be summoned, to see you, Kratos? If that would be the case, I would only be seeing you during tragedies, and we both know I am not quite fond of them." though she tried to jest, she was met with a grunt and nothing more. "I... Knew would be here. Because of Athena. I wanted to be here, to ask you, first of all, what had she promised you... And secondly... To give you my aid throughout your journey to defeat this mad man... Though I may not be a warmonger, I still have mine own skills that may be of help." her eyes held kindness and genuine care for him, he noticed, and as soon as she reached out to cup his face, her soft and delicate hands reminded him of a foreign feeling that somehow, could battle how good he felt even with Lysandra. "Athena promised that, should I succeed in defeating Ares, I will have my past forgiven." thought his vision was set and voice harsh, he couldn't help but lean into her warm touch as he spoke. "And do you believe her?" this question, however, put him on alert.  "Athena said that Gods do not forget those who aided them during their times of need." he answered, yet he only saw her smile widen, but definitely not in a good way. "I ask again, Kratos - Do you believe her word?" his brows furrowed, as he gently put his hands over hers to remove them, and he stepped away, pondering over the question. Why would she ask something like this? Why would he question the validity of the words that the Goddess of Wisdom uttered? "I suppose it does not matter, whether you truly believe them, or you just have them as your last bit of hope. I must warn you, however, that Gods always have a way with words... Hence why I asked you such a question. She said your past will be forgiven, not that your visions will be erased. Bear that in mind... If it matters for you." Katrina pointed out, playfully stepping in the opposite direction, her golden sandals making soft noises in contact with the marble ground. "What are you implying?" realising what she meant, the Spartan immediately snapped his focus to her. "I am implying the same thing I have always warned you about - Never trust a God's word, for they are selfish and good for naught." she explained, stealing a look at him past her shoulder, only to hop again, and face him. "Even so, I shall be aiding you during your journey, though bare in mind - What you are trying to accomplish is no easy feat. You must seek the aid of the Oracle, should you wish to succeed." getting a better look at him, she couldn't help but smile. "I see that Poseidon has given you quite the handsome gift. Not to mention, the aid of my dear friend Aphrodite... Though ironic, considering Ares is her lover. They will aid you well." thus, the Goddess turned around and began to casually walk towards the east, where the Oracle's Temple lay. With lingering eyes, Kratos watched the red haired beauty disappear into the horizon, before getting one last good look at the gigantic Ares, who was destroying the city and massacring thousands of people, just because he could. A monster, he was. "God of War... I haven't forgotten you, for what you did that night. This city will be your grave." watching down for one last time the great army that was marching towards the city, the Spartan exited that place and went on his path, towards the Oracle. Though he lost sight of the Goddess, Kratos made his way towards the Town Square of the city, destroying everything that stood in his way, be that friend or foe, monster or human.  For unknown reasons, a woman started screaming at him, telling him to stay away, all that while running from him, as if he cared enough about her existence as to end it on a whim. He was not merciless, and he did not kill the innocent - That was something he learnt, whilst he was the General of his Army - Though he couldn't deny, he did know very well how intimidating he could appear. "I know who you are! I know what you've done, monster!" though he tried to stop her from running away or jumping to weird conclusions, she was deaf to his words. "Stay back! Get away from me!" as he made his way up the stairs, he sighted the woman edging on the balcony rail, looking distraught. "Stay way, don't come near me! Keep away---" what a mindless woman, falling to her death - A meaningless death. She had all chances to survive this siege. Fool. Looking down over the railing, he noticed the red head crouching besides the woman and shaking her head.  "Some people truly have the most ridiculous of deaths." he could hear her speaking, as she grabbed something from the corpse - It was a key, and using a liana to bring it up to the balcony. "It is the key used to unlock a trapdoor. I believe it will allow you access to the rooftops." she continued casually as he grabbed the key, and she began walking away, until she called out for him. "Before I forget - There are a lot of wraiths up there. They may prove to be a nuisance for you, so be very careful." and she disappeared, just as she appeared - Like a mysterious phantasm, yet even so, Kratos was grateful for the advice and little bits of aid she provided.
During his journey, he encountered a cowardly soldier who was desperately hanging on to the lever of a bridge that should have allowed him to pass - He was far too afraid of letting go, in fear of the monsters getting to him... Clearly, he was no Spartan. Spartans fight with no fear of death, even against awful enemies such as the cyclops and minotaur he faced. "Coward." Kratos spat as he turned around to look for another way of crossing the gap left by the retracted bridge. Through many temples and intricate mechanisms deducted, Kratos ended up before a vision of Zeus, who aided him by gifting him the ability of wielding lightning bolts. It was the perfect ranged weapon that would allow him to destroy that man who dared call himself soldier. A single charged bolt was enough to throw that man into the door, destroy it, and cremate him body altogether, allowing the bridge to stay back in place. Finally, no more irritation, nor detours, for the Spartan.
Now that he was finally above the Town Square, he could see the Oracle before him, only to be swept away by harpies - There must always be some problem that goes in the way of his goals, he grunted to himself, as he went on ahead. Once he reached the Temple's gardens, he saw a Grave Digger, all the way down into a hole that he was digging for... Someone. "Good, my boy, good. Athena has chosen wisely, I knew it was so." as Kratos asked the man of his identity, he was completely ignored. "So you have the blades, the skin as pale as the moon. You are the one indeed, perhaps Athens will survive at that - Hahahaha! But, be careful~! Don't want you dying before I'm done with this grave~!" "A grave?" Kratos asked, stepping towards the old lunatic man. "In the middle of a battle? Who will occupy it, old man?" though there was no sign of malice in his voice, the Spartan was truly curious by this madness.  "You will, my son. Ohh, I've got a lot of digging to do, indeed. All will be revealed in good time, and when all appears to be lost Kratos, I will be there to help. Don't disturb me now, son! I've got my work to do, and you have yours! And precious little time left to do either!" the old man cackled, making the warrior walk away, his mind swimming with questions that may never be answered.
Running all the way to the top of the Temple of the Oracle, killing harpies and legionnaires, Kratos found his way in a large garden filled with intricate machinery, and up there, the woman was being held up in the sky by two flying monsters that let go of her, hoping she would plunge down to the ground, to her demise.  But that was not her fate, for, as she promised, the Goddess of Kindness was there to aid Kratos in this task, and sitting on a beam, Katrina unleashed her vines to catch the Oracle, and summoning a spiraling slide, she landed safely, on the ground, followed by the red head who helped her stand.
"Katrina." Kratos acknowledged the Goddess's presence, as she simply offered a smile that knew much more than it let on. "Carry on with your prophecy, Kratos. Let us see if it shall be of any help" thus, the woman made way for the Oracle, who was able to catch her breath after such an exhilarating experience. "Kratos... As Athena herself has foretold... But you are late, perhaps too late to save Athens - Or is it Athens you have come to save?" the Oracle put his hands on his face, and instead of having his wish granted - His memory of his wrenching past erased - He was forced to recall everything that happened. When she looked into his soul, she saw a beast, as well as a man. Once a captain in the Spartan army, Kratos had begun his command with only fifty soldiers, but soon, his numbers grew to the thousands. His tactics were brutal, but effective. Drunk with power, he was feared by all, except one - His wife was the only one to brave his fury, who could see his limitless ambition, not for Sparta, but for himself. His desire for conquest knew no bounds, but that which he desired would ultimately consume him.  "That is enough." Katrina grabbed the Oracle's hands and pried the woman away from the Spartan. "By the Gods! Why would Athena send one such as you?!" out of anger, the man pushed the Oracle away from him. "Choose your enemies wisely, Kratos. Your brute strength alone will not be enough to destroy Ares. Only one item in the world will allow you to defeat a God... Pandora's Box, which lies far beyond the walls of Athens, hidden by the Gods across the desert to the east. But be warned, Kratos, many have gone in search of Pandora's Box... None have returned." thus, the Oracle opened a door for the man. "Go through the Gates to the Desert, Kratos. There begins the path to Pandora's Box. It is the only way you will defeat Ares." the woman told him. Kartos then looked at the red head, as if to ask if she were to follow him, but by the looks of it, she was nervous. What did Gods have to fear, he wondered, yet his question was left forgotten into his own mind. "I will find you again when you will be in need of my aid, Kratos. Until then, may you have a safe journey. Hold onto this. Should you find yourself in any imminent danger, it will heal all of your wounds, no matter how grievous - But be warned, it is a one-time use item. Use it wisely... Though, I pray you will not find need of it." the woman created a beautiful red flower - An azalea, matching the shade of her crimson hair. "Very well." with a grunt, Kratos took the plant and stored it well, watching the Goddess leave the court. Before he left, however, he heard the Oracle speak once more. "One aids you out of guilt, not out of free will, Ghost of Sparta." she spoke clearly. "What does a Goddess have to be guilty of, when it comes to the life of a mortal?" Kratos asked, the lack of answers gnawing at his mental. "Rather than thinking of your interactions, find the answers from before you were born. All the answers you are seeking lie there, in your past - You must only seek them, and ask the right people, the right questions. Otherwise, you shall be eternally veiled by the unknown." with the Oracle gone, Kratos was left alone, to wander through the edge of the desert, only his plaguing questions being his companion. What grave mistake could the Goddess of Kindness have committed, that in made her feel guilty enough to aid him against the God of War himself? He remembers, back then, when he saved him from Ares, when he was nothing but a child... But what else could have happened?
No matter, he though. Such a question must be asked directly, and until now, many inquires have gathered, all addressed to the mysterious Goddess that warns him about the treachery of her kin, whilst she, herself, is being accused of a crime very much similar. Heeding Athena's warning about the desert, and her advice about Pandora's box, far across the Desert of Lost Souls. He must follow the song of the sirens and be guided to Kronos - Much to his dismay, Kratos was forced to learn that a titan lives - Commanded by Zeus himself to wander the desert endlessly, the temple of Pandora chained to his back, until the swirling sands rip the very flesh from his bones.
Guided by their melody, Kratos was able to destroy the desert sirens, and thus, the temple gate was opened - Once entered, he found a horn, in which he blew, and the sands split, creating a path for him to step on. On the other side, on a marble platform, awaited another horn - Once blown into, Kronos emerged from the Desert sands - On his back, Pandora's Temple awaited, massive and patient, ready to challenge all who went in search of it's guarded treasure. Once the titan reached him, Kratos jumped and latched onto one of the chains, and jumped on the temple - For three whole days, Kratos climbed the shear walls of the mountain. He knew he would either recover Pandora's Box, or perish inside the cursed temple, never to return to the world of man.
Once he reached the platform, Kratos crossed the wooden bridge, and aided by the Body Burner, who was once the first mortal to attempt to get Pandora's Box, the Spartan was able to step inside the glorious Temple. Inside, he found a book on a pedestal, on which it was written with blood.
“This Temple was erected in Honour of and at the command of the Mighty Lord Zeus. Only the bravest hero shall solve its puzzles and survive its dangers. One man will receive ultimate power. All others shall meet their doom. ... Pathos Verdes III, Chief Architect and Loyal Subject of the Gods."
Reading this did not scare Kratos, and he simply went on ahead, inside the Rings of Pandora. With great skill and wit, Kratos was able to brave the numerous traps hidden throughout the temple, earning even the power of Artemis, her own Blade, which she used to slay a Titan, and with its help, he won the challenge of Atlas, retrieving the two Shields, of Zeus and of Hades, needed to unlock the door towards the next challenge - Braving saws and spikes, enemies plenty and mechanisms of imminent death, only to reach a trap room that was guarded by sirens, so that no mortal could retrieve the Handle of Atlas, needed for guiding the Statue of Atlas to raise the globe he was holding up, so that Kratos could pull on the lever and make it throw the great stone globe, destroying the doors blocking his way to the outside grave of the Architect's Son.
"My Youngest Son will laugh no more. Death in the service of his father. Death in the service of the Gods. The building of this temple has claimed his life. May you be lucky enough that it not claim yours.  ... Pathos Verdes III, Chief Architect and Loyal Subject of the Gods."
Though his soul ached at the idea of yet another father having to bury his own child, his heart was hardened and closed to the pain of others, and thus, he went to the coffin, pulling away the golden lid, and ripping away the skull of the young son. Once done, the coffin moved aside, revealing a tunnel and a ladder, down which the Spartan went, only to find himself amongst the wrecked bodies of those who had gone in search of Pandora's Box. At once, Kratos knew who was responsible, for this was not the first time he'd seen the ruin Ares and his minions had left in their wake. Kratos had experienced it first hand, years before...
The youngest and boldest Captain in the Spartan army, Kratos had inspired fierce loyalty in his men. It had always been enough to carry them through any battle, until this day. The Barbarians to the East numbered in the thousands, and descended on the Spartans, without mercy. The battle lasted mere hours. The discipline and training of the Spartans did little to step the tide of the merciless Barbarians. The soldiers faced a massacre, while their young captain faced the end of his brilliant career, and his life - But to Kratos, victory was worth any price... Even his soul. "Ares! Destroy my enemies, and my life is yours!" that desperate call for aid will come to haunt Kratos for all his days...
"By the Gods... What have I become...?" he asked himself, his voice trembling with emotions, same as his heart. Though the man was a seasoned warrior, and had face many a painful memories, he couldn't help but feel immense guilt.  He had done enough awful deeds for a thousand life times... And at once, he thought to himself - Who was he to blame the Goddess for ever wronging him, if, at all, provided he brought the destruction and suffering of so many, while he was only one man?
Sighing, he closed his eyes, and his heart, to the sight before him, and walked past the dead bodies, and back inside one of the primary rooms, from which he found the skull ornament in which he needed to insert the Architect's Son's skull, serving as a key for the activation of a rolling, spikey trap on which Kratos had to walk, to reach a ladder, that will bring him to the Challenge of Poseidon. Once outside, amids the sands swirling in the air, he found a small, yet peculiar dog. Kratos looked at it with great confusion, yet a bit of compassion also - He remembered how much Calliope loved the fox that the Goddess gifted her at her birth - In that instant, however, the puppy started mutating and it was engulfed in exploding flames, transforming into a vicious three-headed monsters. Many other such pups followed, but Kratos slaughtered them before they had the chance to grow, or maim him.
Inside the temple, he was forced to brave more spike-mechanism and climb more of the temple's wall, finding himself in yet another challenging abode - At the end of it, two cremation doors, sporting low fire, on each side of an inscripted table.
"What the Gods ask, I can not do, even for Pandora's Box. They are Monsters now, but they were once men.  I know I am weak, but I can not be part of this... I have failed Athens..." was written on a piece of paper, stuck on a wall with the help of an arrow, next to a fallen body.
At first, Kratos wasn't entirely sure what he had to do to pass this challenge, nor did he quite get the mournful warning from the paper - Yet once returned at the back of the long room, and rotating a lever, a cage with a living man was put on the ground next to him - And at once, it dawned on him, that for him to carry on to the next challenge, he had to make a sacrifice. A human sacrifice. "Well, what are you waiting for?! Let me out, we can find our way back to Athens!" the man desperately tried to plead to the Spartan before him. "The Gods demand a sacrifice. From all of us." was the only response Kratos gave the man, before he went to his cage, kicking him off the ledge, and onto the floor. The man continued trying to break the cage, begging the Spartan to let him go - But the warrior was too busy killing the minions hindering his journey, to pay this man any mind.
Dragging the cage all the way up the slope, into the sacrifice chamber, Kratos placed the cage in the assigned square, pulling the lever for the door to approach, and amplify the fire's power - Once the deed was done, he could pass further, into a temple filled with water - There, the Trident of Poseidon awaited him, thus, giving him the ability of easily swimming and breathing underwater, where his challenge was to truly begin. Once more, Kratos had to endure countless battles against worthy opponents and intricate machinery, timed to kill, were you not swift and witty enough to avoid them. Smarting his way through the labyrinthine underwater temple, avoiding getting squashed like a meaningless bug, and even getting to swim around a naiad, Kratos was successful,
Almost out of the temple, Kratos reached a gorgeous, tall statue that depicted Amphitrite, Poseidon's faithful wife, which will forever watch over this cursed room - It is said that she alone knows the secret way out - But such a silly thing, as a secret way out, was nothing compared to Kratos's instinct, and he easily found the exit, which lead him, once again, by the Rings of Pandora, and thus, inside the new area, began the Challenge of Hades - Hopefully, last the, for his patience was running thin very quickly.
During this challenge, he couldn't help but think about the Goddess who claimed would be there to aid him, and without realising, he found himself stroking the red flower that she gifted him. Perhaps this journey was far too dangerous, even for a God, let alone one that is focused on peace. Or, like Athena said, there were certain boundaries to how much a God can help him, as to not cross the rule that Zeus himself implanted. No matter. He didn't need help making a blood sacrifice, from the many centaurs offered, nor the blood meter from inside the temple, or even creating light inside the darkest corridor inside the great statue of Hades's own mouth.
"Eight dead ends. One way out. Will you find it before the Flames of Hades consume you? ... Pathos Verdes III, Chief Architect and Loyal Subject of the Gods"
The corridor with falling boulders was, by far, one of the greatest nuisances that the Spartan ever had to endure, but he emerged victorious, as was expected - Still, he'd rather not have to go through any of that again, nor any of the high, beams on which he had to balance himself, only to have numerous other beams, adorned with saws on it - The danger of falling or being cut in half were great, but Kratos prevailed, and found himself back in the first room, where a huge, armoured minotaur broke the door and challenged the Spartan. Though strong, he ended up just like all the other foes that Kratos fought - Dead, impaled on the door from which it emerged, and its hoof created a gap in the wood, that served as entrance for the Spartan.  Walking up the great spiralled stairs, he found himself in a chamber that hosted the tomb of the Architect's second son.  "My second son, my last, has followed his brother to the Elysian Fields. In my heart, I know I must continue the work of the Gods, but they take so much and at last, my soul begins to doubt.  ... Pathos Verdes III"
Not only did Kratos realise that the Architect stopped claiming his loyalty and devotion to the Gods, after his second child died, but the mention of Elysium served as a grim reminder that he will never be reunited with Calliope ever again, after being forced to abandon her, because of that dreadful Persephone. For a second time, Kratos ripped the skull of the second son and descended down the spiral stairs, returning to the minotaur room, only to receive the Souls of Hades, a power gifted to him but the Lord of the Underworld himself. Returning to the Rings of Pandora, down in the underground pool of the statue, Kratos inserted the skull that served as a key, which drained the water - And with his great strength, rotating the rings at his wheel, he was able to connect the two beaming lights, thus, making the statue emerge. In his head, he heard Athena congratulate, but also warn him, that once he ascends to the upper levels of the temple, he would not be able to return without the box.
As Kratos rose through the massive temple, constructed to guard Pandora's Box, he realised it was a monument, not only to the Gods of Olympus, but to the Madness of the Warned who designed it. He conquered the lower floors of the temple, but what lay in wait above would test even Kratos. Once the elevator stopped, he stepped on the Statue's hands, which led him to another bridge, where he encountered a satyr - Agile, swift and deadly, yet not a challenge for the Spartan. Killing the enemy offered free pass of the bridge towards the cave, until he encountered a harpy, ripping apart a man's dead body and eating from it. Kratos had been in service to the Gods long enough to know the harpy had been sent as a warning - A reminder from his former master of the decision that had cost Kratos everything. Had it been THAT long since he almost met his end at the hands of the Barbarians? That long, since he traded everything to save himself?  He still remembers his own cry of Ares's name, and how the sky split apart, as the God of War stepped through. Descending from Olympus, he saw the makings of a God, in a mere mortal. Ares would save Kratos. He would turn him into the perfect warrior, his servant on Earth. Only a simple pledge of loyalty was required. "My life is yours, Ares. From this day, I shall carry forth your will." his vow haunts him still, to this day, and all those dreaded words which sealed his fate. As promised, Ares rescued his new disciple, bringing forth the power of a God, destroying those who would slaughter Kratos and his men....  As for Kratos, no mere sword and shield would befit the newest servant of the God of War. The Blades of Chaos, forged in the Foulest depths of Hades - Once attached, the chains remained so - Chained and seared to the flesh, a part of the barous bargain, a permanent reminder of Kratos's pledge... In return - Ultimate power. The rage of Ares exploded from within, but soon, he would learn the true cost of such power - A cost too high, even for Kratos to pay.
"Wretched beast! I know who it is you serve! Return to your master! Tell the God of War I am his no longer! Tell him he is not safe while I walk the Earth! I WILL find Pandora's Box! And I WILL use it to see him tremble and fall before me!" Kratos threatened the harpy, which hissed and flew away in a scurry.
Thus, the Spartan was able to approach the cliffs which he had to traverse, with another warning from the architect himself. "The Cliffs of Madness lie before you. In my grieving, I fear I may have designated a maze with no true way out. If I am right, may the cruel, uncaring Gods show you the way. ... Pathos Verdes III, ... Once loyal subject of the Gods."
So the Architect truly lost all his faith in the Gods, it seemed, and once more, his mind flew towards Katrina, and her warning - Never trust a God's words, for they are selfish. They never truly care for mortals, but for their own benefit only. It seems that the Architect found that out the hard way. Though the man claimed his grieving made him create an unsolvable maze, his craft spoke for itself - As Kratos founds the necklaces of Hera and Aphrodite, starting the mechanism of the two parallel moving bridges, he was glad he needn't figure out too many further challenges.
The path before Kratos was clear, but still, the memories came rushing back, as familiar and permanent as the blades chained to his wrists. Memories of what he'd done in the name of Ares. Memories of how he'd become a servant under the God of War. A beast, his humanity robbed and replaced only with the will to murder...
No one was safe - Entire armies fell before Kratos and his soldiers that followed him on his path for never ending conquest, all in the name of his master... Those who offered resistance of any kind were dealt with quickly. "They built this temple to offer prayers to Athena! This entire village stands as an affront to Lord Ares! Burn this village - Burn it to the ground!" he remembers himself ordering his people, as he threw a torch in the dry grass, which lit on fire that spread throughout the place. Emboldened by the God of War, Kratos's army was ruthless, feared throughout the world for their brutality. All that mattered was conquest in the name of Kratos, their great Leader, who had become near invincible. He feared nothing... But there was something about THIS temple.... Something... Forbidden. All his instincts told him that he should never cross its threshold, never step inside.
"Beware, Kratos, the dangers in the temple are greater than you know." the old woman that served as the oracle of the village warned the Spartan general. But the village oracle's warnings fell on deaf ears. His ambition would not be denied. All who opposed him would die. He remembers, however, a foreign memory, that seemed to have been lost in the midst of all the chaos that his mind was wrapped into. A sweet voice, calling out his name. An embrace from behind, the feeling of rope coiled around his wrists and ankles, trying to drag him away from the temple. Someone begging him to stop. All of them were forgotten, for none was able to hinder the disciple of Ares. Now, he recalls - The Goddess was there, and she tried to stop him from entering the temple. She tried to warn him, and with that little strength of hers, she tried to forcefully keep him away, but it was all in vain, for the man was stronger than her and her Godly powers.
She had not been there, just because he called out her name, once he escaped his trance - She had been there, trying to stop him from murdering his own family, yet she failed miserable... Just like everything else in his life was unable to stop his rage after being blinded by Ares. Katrina's powers could heal the living... But she could not revive the dead. In that instant, as his own blades became soaked in the blood of his wife and child, the glory he had reveled in, turned into horror - The image of his two final victims would stay with him for all his days. Falling to his knees and mourning, Kratos knew he could no longer serve his master - He had but one calling now, the death of Ares. He would murder the God of War. "You may have your revenge, Kratos... But nothing will bring them back in your arms." the Goddess held him tightly to her chest, mimicking the way she held him as a child, when Deimos was taken from him. He must have forced himself to forget some of the details from back then, the memories to painful to be fully remembered, and comfort only brought him even greater distress.
"Ares... You WILL die for what you did that night." Kratos found himself speaking out loud, a threat that will serve as motivation in the journey left to the Architect's Chambers, where he found a table and a dead man laying in a pool of his own blood on top of it, and the skeletal remains sitting in a chair opposite of it. As the Spartan read the not pinned with a dagger, he realised, this was the Architect himself.
"...Tried to stop me... She said the Gods were fools... That I was a fool... She may be right... But they came to ME... They believed in me... She had to be stopped... But now, they are gone... My entire family... I can not go on." the note was left unsigned. The Spartan searched for the sketches pinned on the walls, that displayed the many traps that filled Pandora's Temple. At the bottom of the papers, the name of Pathos Verdes III was inked. For the last skull key, Kratos ripped the head of the Architect's wife, which opened the last door towards a new area, and hopefully, the last one.
As so it was, and Kratos reached the room where Pandora's Box was laying, surrounded by three statues - One of Hades, one of Zeus, and one of Poseidon, as if they were guarding the globe that was protecting the mystical Box. As he touched the box, he felt pain and energy surging through his body, as Athena's spirit started speaking to him. "Kratos, your quest is at an end. You are the first mortal to ever reach Pandora's Box. There is still time to save Athens. You must bring the box back to my city and use it to kill Ares. Return to Athens, Kratos. Return and save my city!" and thus, she stopped speaking, but another began speaking into his head - A voice much sweeter, yet more concerned. "Kratos, you must be careful on your way back! Ares knows of your whereabouts and of your success! He intends to kill you before you open the box!" Katrina warned him in great haste, but once Kratos tried calling out her name, she did not answer. He dearly hoped she did not get in any trouble with Ares for aiding him. Still, with the elevator bringing him back to the main entrance of the temple, Kratos began dragging the heavy, mysterious box towards the outside.
After a thousand years, Pandora's Box was, at last, freed of its confines. Kratos had found the means to destroy the God of War. Far away in Athens, just as the Goddess of Kindness foretold, Ares knew Kratos had succeeded in his Quest. "So, little Spartan, you've recovered Zeus's precious box. But you will not live long enough to see it opened. I will see to that." Ares growled menacingly, picking up a sharp, broken pillar and throwing in the trajectory of Kratos's body. "Goodbye, Spartan. You will rot in the depths of Hates for all eternity." the sharp pillar impaled and tore apart the Spartan's whole torso, and was rendered incapacitated and pinned, on the wall behind. As life began to leave Kratos, his thoughts returned to that faithful night. Even in death, the memories... The visions... Would not end... For how could he forget, spilling the blood of his own family? A cruel trick orchestrated by the God of War. Once again, he remembered the feeling of having his whole body drenched in their warm blood, and the light body of his wife, as he held her in his arms. He remembers the tears that he felt, soaking his cheeks and falling onto her face - Image mirrored by the Goddess who was holding and mourning his own child... His dear Calliope...
And worse, he remembers the words of smug victory that Ares addressed him at that time - Getting rid of his family was the goal all along - With nothing to hold him back, he was supposed to become the perfect mindless puppet... But no more. Kratos was to be used by no one anymore. He was done doing the bidding of the Gods, for it brought him only misfortune. As the flames consumed the temple, and his own family's ashes were bound to his skin, he realised that his true enemy was the very God of War that saved his life - The same one that had taken everything away from him.
With that curse, all would know him for the beast he had become - His skin white with the ash of Lysandra and Calliope - The Ghost of Sparta had been born... In the end... In death... He had failed.  As the minions of Ares claimed Pandora's Box, Kratos's life faded, and his cursed soul was cast into the viles of Hades... Or so he thought. As his mind was slipping away into unconsciousness, he instinctively reached out for the red azalea flower gifted to him, and held it tightly into his fist. He couldn't understand how it worked, but he began slowly feeling his strength returning to him, and though his vision was blurry, he was able to throw away the pillar impaling him, so that he could regenerate wholly. In his proximity, he saw something akin to a portal, and without any idea where it would lead, he trusted that it could be some of Katrina's, or any of her allies's aid, and thus, he stepped inside. On the other side, his vision grew clear - Looking around, he was on a small pedestal of what looked like the top of a bone, and much underneath him, a blood river was drowning the shrieking, falling people. He must be in the underworld, he thought - But he did not despair, for something was in front of him, and giving him hope.
The familiar liana, filled with colourful flowers, was dangling before his very eyes - And thus, he was blind and deaf to everything around him, but the thought that he had to climb out of there. He could feel the vine trembling in his hands as it tried to drag him upwards - He could only chuckle at the image that played in his hand, of the Goddess struggling to pull on the liana and get him out, how very comical.
After a long climb, he finally reached the human realm - And he was back at in Athens, when he once met the grave digger. Panting, on the ground, was the red haired Goddess who looked absolutely exhausted. That could serve as a Greek Comedy with great success. "Ah, Kratos, and not a moment too soon. I only finished digging just a moment ago." the old man spoke smugly. "Who are you?" the Spartan asked, in complete bewilderment. "Ahhh, now that is an interesting question... But for now, you must hurry. Athens needs you." the old man instructed the warrior. "But how did you know I--" he easily got cut off, as the old man nodded his head towards the riding Goddess fixing her hair.  "Athena isn't the only God keeping watch on you, Spartan. Complete your task, Kratos, and the Gods will forgive your sins!" though the old man vanished miraculously before his very eyes, Katrina, did not. "I went to Hestia and she was able to create that portal. Hestia is on great terms with everyone, so she was able to trick Hades into allowing the other end of the portal to bring you to the end of the underworld, where the grave digger made it possible to let out the liana to bring you up." the Goddess explained briefly, nodding for the man to follow her towards the Oracle's temple. "Your ways are mysterious and difficult to comprehend." Kratos spoke, following the woman. "Why would Hestia aid me?" "I did not say she aided YOU. I said she aided ME. That, in itself, is a huge difference, first and foremost. You truly must learn to understand the intricate ways in which Gods speak, otherwise, you may easily find yourself tricked by their faux promises. Again." the woman's warning only proved to be more confusing for the Spartan. "Who are you implying is trying to cheat me?" the man asked, stopping the woman in her tracks. "Everyone - And I mean it. Do not trust anyone that is a God, or close to that. Do not trust anyone. Your instinct is honed well - If you feel someone is truthful, so be it - But otherwise, do not trust anyone... They all have their own interest at heart, not yours. They are all selfish and want to profit off of you." her face was dead set and grave. "And do you count yourself in or out of that category?" the man asked, almost as a test of faith. "In, of course. The Gods want you to do their dirty work, Athena is using you to save her city, but she didn't promise you to erase your past, but only that it will be forgiven - That, in itself, will never make any difference for you. Ares robbed you of your free will and manipulated you with that orchestrated cheap trick. They are all the same. Me as well." she admitted, looking away, her face mellow. "I do not think my sin that grave, though others persecute me for it as if I am some kind of unforgivable criminal, when all I wanted was to spend some time with you. In my selfishness to achieve mine own happiness, I have destroyed another's - Not intentionally, of course - But the consequences are still the same, and I have greatly harmed the person I wanted to protect more than my own life." she admitted for the first time in her life, and for that, Kratos stepped back, his eyes wide from surprise. "The Oracle said you aid me out of guilt, not out of will." his hands found their way on her shoulders, bring her attention back to him. "The Oracle is both right and wrong. Do not take everything people say at heart's value - It is not the journey, but the end, that matters. I must live with the consequences of mine own actions, and those led to you having a life full of misfortune, and for that, I feel guilty. But do not think for one second that I am doing this for anyone else but you. It is because of my kin that so many have to suffer, and that angers me greatly - And it is because of my selfishness, that you have to suffer. It is bittersweet, staying around you, but it is my decision, from guilt AND from pleasure. Now, I advise you stop thinking so much about meaningless things, when a whole city is being destroyed by the man you seek revenge on." the red haired lady took away the hands from her shoulders and went on ahead, waiting for him to follow. "And when are you going to disclose what exactly did you do, that you feel so guilty of?" the question went on deaf ears for the whole way to the temple, until they found the Oracle, dead, on the bloody ground. "Live through this battle, and I will confess to you secrets and prophecies that you are not aware of. The cruelty of Gods knows no bounds, yet there are other, higher, primordial beings that toy around even with the revered and almighty ones. You have lived through so much - Do not get discouraged. This is your chance to get revenge on the man that wronged you so. Go ahead and show him who is the real God of War. Get the box and use and try to take the Blade of the Gods to defeat him." with one last warning that served as an encouragement also, Katrina offered him another healing flower, before sending him off to fight Ares.
Kratos had traversed the Desert of Lost Souls, bested the deadly traps of Pandora's Temple and escaped Hades himself - There was but one task left. "Zeus! Do you see now what your son can do?! You cast your favour on Athena, but her city lies in ruins before me! And now, even Pandora's Box is mine! Would you have me use it against Olympus itself?!" in that instant, Katrina called out Ares's name, which made him turn around to look down at her small form, next to the Spartan. "Ahh, Kratos? Returned even from the underworld. Lucky you had my lovesick sister to aid you." Ares turned away after the patronising comment, so that he could berate his father more. "Is this the best you can do, Father? You send a broken mortal and a flower girl to defeat ME?! THE God of War?!" in his infamy, Ares did not realise the spear that Katrina created from a blade of grass was sent towards the chains from which he was holding the Box - And once broken, the box fell on the ground, ready for Kratos to open.
After thousands of years, Pandora's Box was finally opened - The power of the Gods unleashed. Kratos grew in size, to much the God, and was ready to face him in a trial by combat. "You are STILL just a mortal. Every bit as weak as the day you begged me to save your life. That stupid sister of mine will not be able to protect you again, as when you were a child." Ares taunted the Spartan. "I am not the same man you found that day! The monster you've created has returned - To kill you." Kratos took out the Blades of Chaos, ready to fight the man with the mane of flames. "You have NO idea what a true monster is, Kratos!" Ares growled, as he grew some weird appendix from his back, making him look like a spider. "Your final lesson is at hand! Prepare to join your family, Spartan!" thus, the clash between the two greatest forces began. It was a valiant battle between two worthy opponents, but no matter how much the God of War wanted to claim to be the strongest, he was no match for the strength, tactics, wit and discipline that Kratos, the former Leader of the most feared Spartan Army, wielded against him.
Once he realised that he was losing, Ares retorted to a cheap trick - Opening a portal and sending Kratos away, to another place only he knew of. Katrina could only watch with confusion and terror - What could she do? How could she help the Spartan? She could not even feel the vitality of the flower she gifted him. "Do you see, sister? No matter how much you try to protect the ones you love, they will ALWAYS perish before your very eyes!" Ares mocked the Goddess with his laughed, as she could only lay down, in defeat. "I do not know what you have done to him, brother - But I assure you, Kratos WILL return, and he WILL end your pathetic life!" the woman cried out to him, allowing herself to grow in form to match him, and readying her weapon.  "Father has forbidden the Gods from fighting one another - Do you dare go against his orders, little fox?" Ares was positively amused by the sight of the Goddess of Kindness, holding her weapon. "I do not fight for Athena, nor am I going to defeat you - Of that, I am sure - But if I can keep you from destroying the city and killing more mortals until Kratos returns, then I have fulfilled my duty as the patron Goddess that watched over the people we govern over." she spoke getting in a defensive stance, awaiting her brother's attack.
Kratos, on the other hand, could still hear Ares speaking inside of his head - He was going to destroy his spirit - Destroy HIM. He was thus sent in front of the cursed Temple, where he would try to make amends and undo the horrors he had done. The nightmares that have haunted Kratos for the past 10 years have now taken full amend substance. His past stood before him. Though his heart was aching, he got the strength to kick open the door, and before his very eyes, he could see his wife trying to protect his child, and the fox was before them, snarling, ready to attack.  - They were terrified, yet upon seeing him, he could see a speck of relief.
"Kratos, what's happening?! Where are we?!" Lysandra asked her husband.  "By the Gods... Can this be real?!" he was almost speechless, but as he uttered those words, small, dark portals opened, and from them, copies of his own body were unleashed, and they were all attempting to attack his family. Once he heard his dear Calliope call out to him 'Daddy!' in such a fearful voice, he took out his weapons and was ready to defend his family, as he should have, from the very beginning. "Ares! There is NOTHING you can put in my way to stop me! I WILL save my family!" he cried out, as he began to kill countless fake iterations of himself, only to occasionally embrace his family, hoping it would sooth their fears - He WILL protect them! The feeling of having his wife and child in his arms once again was a bliss, though it was short lasting.
Kratos had done the impossible - He had saved his family. "Kratos! Please, take us home!" Lysandra reached out her arm towards her husband, pleading to him.  "Do you see, God of War?! You took them once, but you'll NEVER have them again!" Kratos shouted towards the skies, taunting Ares.  "You cannot save them, Kratos. You gave them up in your quest for ultimate power. There is a price to pay for everything you gain." he could hear his arch nemesis speak to him. "Not that price. I did not want them to die." with great pain, Kratos closed his eyes and hung his head. He was in agony. "NO PRICE IS TOO HIGH FOR WHAT I OFFERED YOU!" Ares growled at the Spartan weakened by his emotions. "And you rejected me - A GOD!" the Blades began working on their own, suspending him painfully, digging into his flesh, drawing blood - “Now, you will have NO power, NO magic! ALL that is left for you, is DEATH!" Aries sneered, as the Blades left Kratos's flesh, and they slew his family once again, before his very eyes.
As Ares rose his fiery longsword up, Kratos appeared once again in the mortal world, kneeling on the ground and weaponless. It looked as though Ares was going to decapitate him, so just as he was ready to swing his sword of injustice, Katrina leapt between him and the mortal, and used her weapon to parry the attack. "FOOL! Who do you think you are, silly woman?! Fighting for a broken man, still lingering over his dead family! He will never have a place in his heart for you! You are fighting a losing battle!" he kept taunting the woman, but she did not budge. "It matters little to me whether Kratos loves me, as long as he is alive. I only wish for his well-being, and if I have to die to save him, then at least I know I pissed on the prophecy of those stupid Sisters of Fate!" she sneered back at him, getting dangerously close to his face. "What a stupid flower girl... No wonder Aphrodite is so fond of you - You would both forsake anything you have, for the sake of the one you love. Pathetic! You will never achieve any fame, nor greatness this way!" Ares could see he was easily overpowering his sister, and he continued to press on. "Conquest matters little to me. Don't blame me for having different ideals!" in that instant, Kratos opened his eyes - He could feel something going up his hand and emanating a warm, pulsating aura - Looking down, he noticed he was holding the red azalea, once again. Katrina managed to wake him up from his trance - And by the looks of it, she was struggling greatly to hold Ares from killing him. "By the... Gods..." the Spartan muttered, rolling away towards the great Blade of the Gods, just as she had instructed him previously. The battle was not over. Now, he could defeat the God of War. "I still have allies in Olympus, Ares - And now, you will see how strong I am." putting his hand on the woman's shoulder and gently pulling her behind him, Kratos was ready for the end battle, once and for all.
Ares's defeat came after a short time as Kratos bested him as his greatest skill - War fighting. "Remember, Kratos - It was I who saved you, in your time of greatest need!" he tried to bargain, to have his life saved. "I haven't forgotten, Ares. I remember how you saved me!" Kratos was seething with anger, as he approached the fallen God. "That night... I was trying to make you a great warrior...!" Ares pleaded, but it was for naught. "You succeeded." was the Spartan's only answer, as he drove the sword in the God's chest - And he fell pathetically in the water, and died, looking akin to a ragdoll.
Kratos had truly done the impossible - A mortal, defeating a God - Ares was no more, and with his death, a great explosion befell the ocean. The city had been saved and would thrive again. The same could not be said for Kratos, for as he sought to rebuild his soul with the help of the Gods - The truth was revealed to him. "Athena - Rid me of the memories that haunt me still." he pleaded - Begged, even, the statue of the Goddess, with pitiful hopelessness. "You have done well, Kratos. Though we mourn the death of our brother, the Gods are in debt to you. We promised your sins would be forgiven, and so they are - But we never promised to take away your nightmares. No man, no God, could ever forget the terrible deeds you have done." came Athena's cruel answer.
In the end, the truth was just as Katrina had warned him - His sins are forgiven, yes, but that helps him with naught. No Gods promised his nightmares would disappear, so he cannot accuse them of betrayal.  Knowing the visions of his past would never leave him, Kratos made his way to the bluffs, overlooking the Aegean Sea. "The Gods of Olympus have abandoned me. Now... There is no hope..." and Kratos cast himself from the highest mountain in all of Greece. After ten years of suffering - Ten years of endless nightmares - It would finally come to an end.
Death would be his escape from madness...
The fate of Kratos was not as it seemed. The Gods had other plans. Broughten off like a feather, Kratos found himself risen from the sea and placed on solid earth, back from which he leapt. The vines that were tightly coiled around him were bringing him no discomfort, except for the notion that he was not yet dead, and the madness will never end. Back on the cliff, he was embraced tightly by the red haired Goddess who was trembling in his arms, while another spoke to him - That lying statue of Athena was haunting him even now, not allowing him his bittersweet end.
"You will not die this day, Kratos. The Gods cannot allow one who has performed such service to perish by his own hand. Ares's tactics were brutal. His path of destruction had to be stopped - But now, there is an empty throne in Olympus, and a new God of War is needed. Take these stairs, Kratos. They lead to your ultimate reward." Athena spoke to him once more. Sighing, realising there was no way to end this life, he put his hands on the Goddess's shoulders, and gently pushed her back, before raising her chin to look at him - And he realised, she had been crying.  "What is it that ails you so?" he asked, noticing the quivering lip. "I simply cannot imagine a life without you. Ask no further. Let us proceed to your throne... Though it is not the reward you wished for..." taking his hand, the woman guided him up the stairs that lead to the peak of Mount Olympus, and inside, there awaited his Godly Throne - His rightful place upon it. Katrina smiled, looking at the frowning man sitting on the throne. "It suits you better than it did him, Kratos. Though it is not your desired end... I hope you will not go out of your way to seek your own demise again. I meant what I said earlier. I may hate seeing you suffer - But I am a God, and Gods are selfish, and before anything, I wish for you to live, and for me, to see you that way." she confessed to him in that honeyed voice of hers, and Kratos realised that even if he doesn't yet have all of his answers, with his new status and powers as a God, he can much easier seek them. "Fear no further, for I will not die any time soon, Katrina." reassuring her, he extended his arm towards her and grabbed ahold of her hand, and with a tug, he pulled her onto his lap. Caressing her flawless face with one hand, while the other found itself putting the azalea into her hair, he couldn't help but admire the gentle beauty before him. "You have aided me plenty all this time, Katrina. Now, aid your people and help them restore their life. I know it is what you want. Once you are done, come back to me, and you can tell me all there is about those prophecies from long ago." Kratos suggested, earning the most enchanting, lovely smile that he had ever seen from a woman. "Very well, Kratos. Wait for me - And for as long as you will have me, I will be by your side, guiding you, and lighting up the road for you." she comforted the man, who brought her into an embrace, and stole a sweet kiss from her. "I will be waiting for as long as you need." for the first time in so long, the new God of War found himself with a genuine smile on his face - Though he had other plans in his mind, and a lot of goals to achieve - For now, he was content, having the beautiful Goddess that could caress and sooth his soul so easily.
And from that point forward, throughout the rest of time, whenever men road forth to battle - For good cause, or evil - They did so under the watchful eye of the man who had defeated a God.
They were driven forward by Kratos, the mortal who had become the new God of War.

Olympiakos: 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League Winners
Tumblr media
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Setting off wild celebrations in Athens, Olympiakos won Greece’s first European club title by beating Fiorentina 1-0 with a goal in extra time of the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.
Ayoub El Kaabi provided the dramatic ending, diving to nudge in a last-gasp goal in the second period of extra time, with fans erupting in celebration after a lengthy wait for a VAR check for offside.
“Praise be to God, we promised our supporters we’d do this today and we did it,” El Kaabi said.
The Morocco striker – who finished as the competition’s top scorer – struck in the 116th minute of the match and dropped to his knees as he waited to see if the goal would stand after he had met a cross from Santiago Hezze.
The goal decided a game that had looked destined for a penalty shootout following an energetic but largely risk-free encounter at AEK Arena, and condemned Fiorentina and its coach Vincenzo Italiano to a second straight defeat in the final of the Europa Conference League after losing last year to West Ham.
“We created chances and had the opportunity to lift the cup but unfortunately it didn’t happy – I’m sorry,” Italiano said. “In Europe it’s not an easy thing to get this far and lose.”
Olympiakos coach Jose Luis Mendilibar secured a second straight European title after winning the Europa League with Sevilla last season.
“It’s an honor to have made all these people happy, I feel immense joy and happiness to have made people feel this way and I dedicate it to them,” Mendilibar said.
“We have achieved something that our club has never achieved before. We will celebrate it and celebrate it the way we should. Then we will start working on what comes next.” Tens of thousands of Olympiakos fans joined boisterous celebrations across the Greek capital after attending outdoor viewing parties. Youths held up lit flares in the port city of Piraeus, near Athens, where the team is based.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described Olympiakos as “a true legend,” adding in an online post: “Olympiakos has won the Europa Conference League and made history! A sensational night for the club itself, but also for Greek football as a whole.”
The third-tier European club competition took place amid a massive security operation, with some 5,000 police officers forming concentric cordons around a northern area of the capital – amid Europe-wide security concerns this summer for major sporting events including the Paris Olympics and European soccer championship in Germany.
The final was briefly marred by scuffles between Fiorentina fans inside the stadium and riot police next to them.
Although the visitors dominated the early stages of the final, Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano kept his team in the game with two impressive fingertip saves to block on-target shots from Daniel Podence in the fourth minute and Stevan Jovetic in the sixth minute of extra time.
El Kaabi, who scored a total of 11 goals in the competition, had been largely sidelined in the match by Fiorentina’s unyielding four-man defense.
Olympiakos players celebrated with 15,000 fans after the game, some holding their young children as golden confetti was fired into the air around the awards podium.
“It’s the best emotion I’ve felt so far in my career,” defender Panagiotis Retsos said. “I’ve had a lot of ups-and-downs but I’m very, very happy to be here.”

Days 84/85 to 87 – Friday-Sunday, 18-20 August    Warsaw
(Because we were so long in the air and crossed so many time-zones, the title above may look strange, but it really is Friday, 18 August, having transitioned through 17 August some six paragraphs back in my previous post.)
Friday
We planned a lay-day for today – we welcome the occasional day off from the stress of travel and unfamiliar things, so enjoy a day hiding out in our room from time to time.
We had cereal for breakfast, using up the last of what we had purchased in Athens (that was ages ago) and spent a good deal of the morning reorganising, catching up with email, writing and editing photos, and responding to the many emails about the hiccups from the day before.
We went out for a walk at about 3pm and explored a little of our local area and went to find where our tour left from the following day.  We walked through a couple of the main squares and explored some of the old city, and enjoyed a very expensive drink at a little café.  It was quite near a McDonalds, so instead of breaking the bank at the café, we sat and shared some snacks and watched the world go by at McDonalds.
We had bought tickets for a Chopin concert online, but didn’t know where it was – in the Fryderick Concert Hall, but nobody had heard of it.  Chopin was born and lived in Warsaw and there were lots of Chopin concerts on, but nobody knew about this one.  We went to a few places that I had seen advertising Chopin concerts, and asked a range of local people, all to no avail.  We basically gave up, but as a last resort tried the Tourist Information Centre - and although they hadn’t heard of it, they tracked it down for us (back close to McDonalds again) so we ran up there and found it.  It is not visible from the street, in a walled area with a variety of other arts groups, so we enjoyed some free bubbles while we caught our breath and went in and sat down.  The concert was fabulous – some familiar pieces, some less familiar, but the Music Professor who played the piano for us was brilliant and the music was simply rapturous.  It had been hard work finding the place, but worth it ten times over.  A great experience!
It wasn’t a late night so we walked back to our hotel and on to the supermarket we had patronised yesterday – and ate spicy noodles in our room again for dinner.
Saturday
We had breakfast in our room and were out before 9.30am to ride the HOHO bus for which we had purchased tickets.  We rode the Blue Line first and it was pathetic.  The driver was clearly in a hurry and we were often well past a memorial or notable site before the commentary told us that ‘you are now approaching the site of……’  The whole thing was farcical and not worth a tenth of what we had paid.  All HOHO buses worldwide offer a 10% discount if you show them a receipt from a previous excursion – but in Warsaw, they don’t honour their promise for some reason.  But the driver asked if we were seniors (do we still look like teenagers) and agreed to give us the 10% seniors’ discount anyway.
We Hopped Off before the end of the line and went to a big shopping mall where we had lunch – but not before walking all over the place looking for a sporting goods store that sold hiking stick tips.  We eventually found one and bought six tips - a good job too, because we have already used four of them.  We then had lunch at a Japanese restaurant – and very nice it was too.
We rejoined the Blue Line after quite a wait and rode it back to the starting point where we joined the Red Line.  That was considerably better than the Blue Line, but had the problem of driving down several streets with healthy street trees that slapped the unwary in the face of those sitting in the unprotected top level of the double-decker bus.  That has been a minor issue on other HOHO buses, but with so many more green spaces in Warsaw, it was a much more significant problem here.
Toward the end of our ride, the clouds became ominous and we thought we might have had to retreat to the crowded downstairs level, but we made it back to the terminus free of rain.  In fact, despite another fierce afternoon thunderstorm, there was very little rain, just a few spots that had no impact at all on us.
We stopped in at a different supermarket a little closer to our room for more water and then ate dinner in our room, serenaded for at least two hours by an electric harp and a cello, played by a couple of young women we had seen a couple of times in our travels.  They were playing in the restaurant below our window.  It was quite delightful.
Day 87 – Sunday, 20 August
We had a walking tour in the morning that actually extended to 2pm, by which time we were glad to be able to sit down and have something to eat.
It was a good tour with quite a lot of walking, but we saw some interesting things.  One was the house where Marie Curie was born and raised – almost diagonally across the road from our hotel.  We also saw a great statue of her overlooking the river and a large area of parkland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our guide told us a lot about the horrific carnage that occurred in Poland, and especially in Warsaw, over centuries, but focussing largely on the German, and subsequent Soviet, slaughter and destruction during the Second World War.
There was a short-lived (2-month, mainly Jewish) uprising against the German Occupation and Himmler instructed that every person in Warsaw should be killed and every building destroyed as punishment and as an example to the rest of the world that Germany was willing to do absolutely anything to gain its objectives in the war.  Hundreds of thousands were shot or taken to the nearby concentration camps to be exterminated, and every building for kilometres around was blown up.  We saw photos of the utter destruction brought about as a result of the decree.  Once the Soviets took over, they were as bad, and Warsaw was almost wiped from the map within a couple of years as a result.  Hospitals and churches in particular were targeted and everyone who could be found was murdered.  We saw lots of evidence of the damages and  even saw a pit-cover in the middle of an intersection where many of the Resistance accessed the sewers in an attempt to escape.
Tumblr media
The manhole cover in the middle of the intersection through which some of the Resistence fighters eascaped into the sewers. The lower of the two street signs on the building (on the right) was somehow used to indicate to the escapees where the escape route started.
We went to the Military Cathedral towards the end of a church service and saw more evidence there.  There is a very long memorial chapel with more than ten thousand names inscribed – all of them POW officers captured by the Russians and then shot in retribution for their army beating the Russians in a skirmish a few years earlier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The names of more than 10,300 Polish POW officers are inscribed on these walls, all murdered on Stalin's orders in retribution for embarassing the Russian army in a defeat a few years earlier.
It goes on, but certainly Warsaw’s history must be one of the most bloody and horrific of any anywhere in the world.  Yet today, so much has been rebuilt as close as possible to its original state in defiance of the treatment the city suffered.  The Warsaw population, almost within our lifetime, has suffered the most ghastly persecution, desecration and bloodshed, it is hard to believe.  It certainly brought home to me in a new way the evil that men can inflict on others for no reason other than that they can – and so they do!
Our tour took us across the city and we saw where the Jewish Ghetto was, and how the Germans progressively reduced its size and hugely increased its population with no increase in food supplies so thousands starved to death.  The horror stories go on – and on and on…… and almost every time we stopped to look at a building or a plaque or memorial, further atrocities were revealed.  It certainly made me feel sick that individuals in my own species could act as they did, knowingly and wilfully, for years at a time.
We walked to a wonderful area of parkland where hundreds of people were picnicking in anticipation of an outdoor Chopin Concert to be performed an hour or so later. We didn't dally, but walked quite a long way through the park, learning about more of the history and monuments we saw along the way. We saw the former King's modest palace and the much more opulent governor's shed and eventually returned to the centre of the city.
Our two-and-a-half hour morning tour finished at about 2pm and we were released in the centre of the city to enjoy quite a sober lunch.  I tried a local specialty called Lard – and it is really slightly flavoured lard.  I ate a little, but couldn’t eat more than about a third of my serving.
We called past the supermarket for more drinks on the way back home and had a nap after all the walking we had done.  And we ate in the room again at night – with no delightful serenade from the restaurant below.

If you are thinking of traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland, you are in the right place. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. The city, which has been the capital of the country since 1437, is the second largest city in the country after Glasgow. Located in the east of Scotland, close to the north sea, this fairy-tale city is one of the favorite cities of travelers. The most prominent feature of the city is the dazzling architecture of the Medieval and Georgian periods. The city, which is known as the "Athens of the North" due to its high education rate and cultural level, has an important place in the Scottish enlightenment. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_aI95TjnpE[/embed] Edinburgh, which has two regions as the old city and the new city, has been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Universities in the city have a great role in the fact that the cultural level of the city is so high and that it is at a very advanced level in education. Edinburgh, which has four universities, turns into a student paradise during the academic year. The number of students studying in the city is more than one hundred thousand. The oldest of the universities in the city is Edinburgh University. Edinburgh University, one of the most respected universities in the world, was founded in 1583. This well-established university was ranked 9th in the international university rankings in 2010, and has become one of the top ten universities in the world. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push(); Apart from Edinburgh University, one of the other universities in the city is Herriot-Watt University. This institute, whose foundations were laid in the field of mechanics education in 1821, gained university status in 1966. Where Is Edinburgh? Let us share with you some of the things you need to know when traveling to Edinburgh. Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is located in the east of Scotland, very close to the North Sea. Adjacent to Glasgow, the country's largest city, Edinburgh is the center of the Lothian District. When To Go To Edinburgh? The ideal time to visit Edinburgh, which has a rainy climate, is during the summer months. Edinburgh, which has a lively atmosphere in June, July and August, welcomes the most visitors during these periods. If you are not comfortable with the crowd, the months of June and July may be a more suitable choice for you. If you want to spend a quieter Edinburgh trip, you can choose the months of September and October to visit with the romanticism of autumn. We recommend that you do not prefer the rainy and harsh winter months. Let us remind you that Edinburgh, which hosts various fairs and festivals in almost every period of the year, is the richest in terms of festivals in August. Best Places To Visit In Edinburgh Edinburgh, which has a very old history, is surrounded by historical buildings. These historical buildings create the harmony of contrasts with modern buildings. During your trip to Edinburgh, you will be satisfied with both historical and natural beauties. Edinburgh Castle You should definitely visit Edinburgh Castle, one of the symbols of the city, located in the center of the capital city Edinburgh. Edinburgh Castle, one of Scotland's most important tourist attractions, welcomes approximately 1 million visitors a year. Edinburgh Castle, a former royal palace, is considered one of the most magnificent structures in the world. The castle, which has survived for 1000 years without being destroyed, is located on a hill overlooking the whole city. Edinburgh Castle, located on the hill known as Castle Rock, has a magnificent view of Edinburgh. Edinburgh Castle has been a place where the king and his family lived for many years and where state affairs were carried out. After the death of Elizabeth I in 1603, it was decided to continue these activities in the castle in London. After this date, a part of the castle, which became a place where military affairs were discussed, was also used as a prison.
Edinburgh Castle, which has never lost its importance, hosted the Scottish parliament until 1963. If you want to visit Edinburgh Castle, you should risk getting tired. It takes about 3 hours to tour the entire castle. At the entrance of the castle, the statue of William Wolce, which the Scots consider as a folk hero, welcomes the visitors. It is located in a section where various military equipment and royal jewels are exhibited. In addition, the cannon known as "one O'clockan" in Edinburgh Castle is fired at 13.00, except on Sundays. The people of Edinburgh love this cannon blast, which is done to pay homage to the castle's military importance and historical memory. St. Giles Cathedral Constituting one of Edinburgh's skylines, St. Giles Cathedral is one of the most magnificent structures in the city. st. Giles Cathedral is the headquarters of the Church of Scotland. Its distinctive crown-shaped bell tower has become one of Edinburgh's symbols. It occupies about a third of Edinburgh's main street, the Royal Mile. St. Giles Cathedral was built in the late 14th century. In the 19th century, it underwent a large-scale restoration period. st. Giles Cathedral has been the religious center of Scotland for nearly 900 years. The magnificent building of St. Giles Cathedral attracts thousands of tourists every year. st. Giles Cathedral is a crown-shaped bell tower, which is not seen in any other structure. You should definitely visit the cathedral, which is located in the part of Edinburgh called the Old Town. St. Giles Cathedral is as fascinating inside as it is outside. During the renovation period in the 19th century, the windows of the cathedral were replaced with stained glass. In the Presbyterian church's understanding, this was unwelcome and was seen as a rather radical move. However, this situation was normalized on the grounds that the stories in the Bible were depicted in the stained glass placed in the windows of the church. st. Starting from the northeast window of St. Giles Cathedral, the windows to the northwest tell a complete story. You will be fascinated by the splendor of art and architecture while visiting St. Giles Cathedral. There is also a small souvenir shop inside the cathedral. If you want to keep a memory of your Edinburgh trip, you can shop here. The store's revenue is used for the cathedral. Edinburgh Royal Botanic Garden One of the places you should not return from your Edinburgh trip without visiting is the Edinburgh Royal Botanic Garden. The Royal Botanic Garden, which is built on a very large land and contains thousands of different plants, is one of the favorite places of tourists. Edinburgh Royal Botanic Garden was established in 1670. In the first years of its establishment, the garden was providing health services for the purpose of growing medicinal plants. In the following years, as a result of the studies and advances made in the botanical garden, there was an increase in plant species and number. The botanical garden, which has grown over time, is home to more than 13 thousand plant species today. The Royal Botanic Garden, which is built on a very large land, has laboratories that carry out research and improvement studies. At the entrance of the botanical garden, there is a small store for visitors to shop. If you wish, you can buy various plant seeds from this store, and you can browse the books with information about garden care. There is also a section in the Royal Botanic Garden for beginners in gardening and agriculture. While students learn how to take care of the soil and plants, they can grow any plant they want in the areas reserved for them. In the Royal Botanic Garden, there are also parks and ornamental pools reserved for children to play and visitors to sit and relax. There is also a place reserved for wedding ceremonies in the Royal Botanic Garden. If you are lucky, you may come across a Scottish wedding while visiting the botanical garden.
Palace Of Holyrood Another structure you should visit in Edinburgh, where historical buildings are carefully preserved, is Holyrood Palace. Holyrood Palace, the palace of the British Royal Family in Scotland, is located in Edinburgh's Old Town. The land on which Holyrood Palace is built extends to Edinburgh Palace. This 16th century palace is used for official invitations and ceremonies. Queen Elizabeth comes to Holyrood Palace in the first week of summer each year. For a week, while the Queen is dealing with some official affairs at Holyrood Palace, she organizes various invitations and ceremonies, creating a fun atmosphere in the palace. Inside the Holyrood Palace grounds, there is the church and the school building used for the education of the duchess in the 19th century. These buildings were turned into a museum in 2002 and opened to the public. Known as an art gallery, this museum displays works belonging to the royal family and some jewels. The unforgettable Queen of Scotland, Mary Stuart, also frequently stayed at Holyrood Palace, adding to the fame of the palace. It is possible to reach Holyrood Palace, which is located on the Royal Mile, the main street of Edinburgh, by walking from the center. Although Holyrood Palace belongs to the Royal family and is the center of official invitations, it has always been a public structure. National Museum Of Scotland Edinburgh is a city that fascinates its visitors with its museums. Edinburgh's most famous museum, which houses museums on various subjects, is the National Museum of Scotland. This museum is one of the largest not only in Edinburgh but also in Scotland and welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Usually, museums have collections on a single subject. For example, archeology, art, painting. But this is not the case for the National Museum of Scotland. The National Museum of Scotland, which has collections and exhibitions in many different areas, will amaze you with its diversity. The museum, which hosts many artifacts and exhibitions related to the History of Scotland, also has collections from many different cultures, such as Ancient Egyptian artifacts. In addition to the section where historical artifacts are exhibited, the National Museum of Scotland also has sections such as art, science and technology. In addition to exhibiting various artifacts in these sections, interesting activities are also carried out. If you wish, you can participate in presentations where interesting information about works of art is given, or you can participate in fascinating experiments of the scientific world. Interesting experiments are carried out in the science section, which is an impressive experience especially for children. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push(); At certain times of the year, exhibitions on various subjects are also held at the National Museum of Scotland. We recommend that you take a look at the museum's event calendar before visiting Edinburgh. In the National Museum of Scotland, you can examine historical artifacts or visit the sections that host exhibitions and activities on many subjects from science to art, technology to nature. Transportation In Edinburgh When you travel to Edinburgh, you should also know how to get there. You can walk around Edinburgh, where every street smells of history, without any difficulty. thank you for 1400 followers!!
you fall in love with mark lee in the summer of 2018.
it’s short but blissful — filled with longing gazes, soft whispers and the crisp trepidation that it would all be taken away from you someday.
and it was. you watch as mark loops his arm around mina’s waist, smiling for the cameras as the flashes drown their figures. you throw back your glass of champagne and you feel someone grasp your arm.
your brother, jaehyun, is giving you a warning look. “don’t cause a scene,” he hisses down at you. you roll your eyes at him.
it wasn’t your choice to separate and it wasn’t mark’s either. you two had obligations that you needed to return to — mark’s being mina and yours being yukhei. you’ve both been engaged for several years in order to bring your respective companies success, and falling in love with someone else was never in the cards for you.
yukhei was a lovely, gentle soul, but he wasn’t what you wanted. you wanted it to be that summer all the time. you wanted to feel mark’s hand grip yours at the local cafe. you wanted him to greedily kiss you on the sand while the waves crash against the shore. you wanted his fingers to brush away strands of your hair while he gently makes love to you underneath the moonlight.
you and mark ended things once summer was over. you both knew you couldn’t carry on with what you were doing after being betrothed to other people. you returned to yukhei with a heavy heart, and your fiancé remained oblivious, simply overjoyed to have you back home with him.
jaehyun is the one of the only people who knows of the affair. you tell your brother everything as you know you can trust him wholeheartedly. he also keeps you firm and grounded, reminding you of your place in this socialite world.
“i’m not causing a scene,” you reply to your brother. he gives you a hasty look.
you spot yukhei walking over and jaehyun disappears, leaving you with your fiancé. yukhei has his signature smile painted on his lips, coming to your side and offering you another glass of champagne.
“this place is nice, isn’t it? i was surprised at first when chenle decided to buy it, but now i can see why,” he murmurs to you.
your eyes roam around the expansive building, topped with a golden chandelier and dozens of socialites roaming about, sipping champagne and speaking frivolously to one another. zhong chenle, a close friend of yukhei, bought the building a couple of years ago and today was the grand opening of the new remodel. yukhei was more than excited this morning to attend, having been stuck at his father’s office for the past month working on the merger with your family.
“it’s very pretty,” you remark, your eyes once again finding mark’s figure. he speaks to na jaemin with a wide smile, his arm still snug around mina’s waist.
yukhei hums next to you. “chenle wanted to have dinner with us tomorrow night. i think jisung might tag along too. what do you think?”
you offer your best smile to him. “sounds great, yukhei.”
he beams back at you. you wish you could love yukhei as much as he clearly loves you. but no, your heart still lays with the man across the room.
“i’m going to go to the restroom,” you announce, handing him your champagne glass. he nods and after you step away, you hear kunhang approach him and ask him about how things are going at the company.
you need to breathe. you’re not trying to cause a scene of any kind like jaehyun thinks you are, but you need to be more loving and faithful to yukhei so that everyone is convinced by this sham of a marriage. mark plays his part well, and you need to do the same.
you’re staring at your reflection in the bathroom mirror when mina walks in, pausing at the sight of you. you know that mina knows what happened between you and mark that summer, considering mark couldn’t keep a secret to save his life.
she doesn’t say a word when she stands next to you, fixing her hair in the mirror. your fingers grip the sink as the silence passes, tension filling the air.
“i’m sorry.”
you refuse to look at her as she makes her apology.
“you have nothing to apologize for,” you mutter back to her. she shakes her head.
“i do. i wish things were different, i really do.”
you can hear the sympathy in her voice, but you don’t want any part of it. you’re grateful that mina understands in some way instead of revealing your secrets to yukhei, but the emotion is overpowered by the feeling of jealousy that mina gets to be the one to go home with mark at the end of the day.
you exit the bathroom with a heavy heart, trying to find yukhei in the midst of the crowd. you’re stopped by naeun, who smiles gently at you and pulls you to the side.
“are you alright?”
naeun has been engaged to your brother since she was seven, but the only difference between their relationship and yours was that naeun and jaehyun actually loved each other. naeun acted as a sibling to you, and you didn’t mind jaehyun telling her your secrets from time to time because she was so understanding. she was constantly checking up on you to make sure you and yukhei were doing alright. most of the time, yukhei was but you were not.
“i’m doing fine, naeun.”
she frowns at your lie. her eyes flit over to where mark is standing, mina rejoining his side.
“he doesn’t love her.”
you shake your head. “it doesn’t matter.”
you find yukhei next to xiaojun and give him a soft kiss on the cheek, causing his whole face to light up at your affection.
this is where you belong. you simply can’t afford to think otherwise.
“i was thinking we could go to paris for your birthday. i know a few friends who live there.”
you smile at yukhei, who is eagerly leaning across the kitchen counter to speak to you. he looks like a kid on christmas day as he talks about your birthday plans.
you honestly didn’t want to do anything lavish this year. usually, your parents pay for some expensive trip as compensation for not giving a fuck about you. since you’re living on your own with yukhei now, they don’t really feel guilty anymore when they forget about you.
you’ve liked your past birthdays, most of them being spent in spain or italy. your favorite birthday was in athens, where jaehyun had first introduced you to mark.
you shake the thought out of your head to respond to yukhei.
“xuxi, i don’t really want to go anywhere this year. staying at home would be nice.”
he frowns. “that’s not fun! come on, this is the perfect time to take a vacation. we can go anywhere you’d like.”
you finish up the remains of your lunch and put the dishes in the sink. yukhei is adamant on following you out of the kitchen and into the living room. you lean down to pick up your laptop sitting on the couch but he stops you.
he has a serious gaze planted on his face and he sighs.
“i know you don’t really want to be married to me,” he whispers.
you avoid his stare. “what are you talking about?”
“i can see right through you, y/n. i’ve known you long enough.” he pauses, his fingers running over your hand gently. you still refuse to look at him, knowing you’ll only see the desperation in his eyes. “just give me a chance? i don’t want you to be stuck with me if you’re going to be unhappy.”
“i’m not unhappy, xuxi.”
“you are. i know you are.”
you exhale and he takes a step back from you so you can breathe.
“just let me throw you this party, okay? i promise it’ll be fun.”
and you feel bad. you feel awful because yukhei’s known this whole time that you’ve never loved him.
“okay.”
two weeks later, you find yourself in the heart of paris. yukhei made all of the arrangements fairly quickly, the both of you rooming in an apartment next to his friends, ten and yangyang. you know absolutely nothing about your party, and yukhei intends on keeping it that way.
he’s been doting on you since the plane landed in france, taking you to all of these art galleries and finding multiple bakeries to soothe your sweet tooth. you can tell yukhei is trying his hardest to change your mind, but everywhere you go, you see mark.
you see him as lovers pass by you, holding hands and smiling at one another affectionately. you see him as you gaze up at the eiffel tower, the lights shining down on your figure. you even see him when you look at yukhei, wishing mark was beside you instead.
you think back to that summer in greece when you first fell in love with him.
“you’re a little clumsy for a billionaire’s son, aren’t you?”
mark rolls his eyes at your teasing and you giggle. his cheeks redden as the both of you lean down to wipe up the coffee mark spilled all over the floor.
mark left the balcony door open so the breeze could flow inside but when a gust of wind throttled him, he spilled his morning coffee everywhere. he was such a klutz, yet you could never stay mad at him for long.
“the wind is really strong today, okay?”
you laugh again, throwing the soggy paper towels in the trash. you stand up and kiss him gently.
“you’re so silly.”
he grins, wrapping his arms around your waist. “but you love me anyway.”
you chuckle. “i guess i do.”
“so what do you think?”
you’re taken out of your daydream by the sound of yukhei’s voice. the both of you are sitting outside of a cafe, enjoying the gentle breeze of paris.
“sorry, what did you say?”
yukhei laughs softly at you. “about dropping by ten’s art gallery tonight? he’s been working really hard on his latest collection.”
“oh,” you murmur, breaking off a piece of the croissant yukhei bought you. “yeah, that sounds nice.”
he nods at your answer and takes a sip of his cappuccino. the two of you eat and drink in silence and although you find it comforting, you can tell his mind is swirling. he’s clearly troubled by your indifference to him. you’ve tried to make it better over the past few days, holding his hand and giving him kisses on the cheek here and there. he knows, however, that you don’t really mean it.
later that night, you slip on your favorite red dress from versace and pair it with some black louboutins. yukhei waits for you by the door, beaming when you approach him.
“you look beautiful,” he comments, sliding your jacket over your shoulders.
“thanks, xuxi.”
the car ride to the gallery is spent in silence, and you realize most of your interactions with yukhei consist of this now. you hate it because you and yukhei used to talk so freely, but you can tell he considers this trip to be a turning point in your relationship.
when you arrive at the venue, yukhei quickly jogs over to open your door for you, and you smile as you take his hand and step out of the car. you thank the driver and loop your arm through yukhei’s, walking slowly up the steps to the gallery.
“have fun tonight,” he murmurs to you. you furrow your eyebrows at his odd statement, but it all comes clear to you once yukhei swings open the door.
you’re drowned in a chorus of surprise! and you’re in shock by the sight before you. all of the people who run within your circle are gathered in this small art gallery, huddled together as streamers fall down from the ceiling.
naeun and jaehyun approach you first, both of them offering a hug.
“happy birthday!”
even though your birthday wasn’t for another two days, you figure this was part of the illusion of yukhei’s surprise.
“how did you guys get here?” you ask, still a little frazzled by everyone’s appearance.
naeun giggles at you. “xuxi arranged everything!”
“yeah, isn’t that nice of him?” jaehyun questions. you know what he’s implying, but you ignore it.
more of your friends envelop you into their arms, giving you happy birthday greetings or complimenting your appearance. you smile at all of them, accepting their kind words as you try to get through everybody. you feel a little overwhelmed by the attention but you do your best to thank everyone for coming.
it probably wasn’t a hassle for most of them to fly to paris on such short notice, given most of your friends like taking spontaneous trips anyway. you’re pretty sure yuta was just in new york yesterday with sicheng.
you lose yukhei again in the crowd, rina pulling you aside and asking how your romantic getaway with yukhei has been. all of your friends seem to buy into your blossoming relationship, and they have no reason not to.
“everything’s going great, rina,” you smile tightly.
she grins and clutches your arm. “it’s so sweet how he did all of this for you! i would die if i was in your place.”
you nod and laugh, ignoring the guilt pooling in your stomach. you know that no matter how nice yukhei treats you and how hard he tries to be the man you want, you can never love him the way he wants to be loved. you can never have what your brother and naeun have.
rina leaves you to get a glass of champagne and that’s when you hear him.
“happy birthday.”
your back stiffens. you can identify that voice anywhere. it’s the same voice that used to sing you to bed, strumming his guitar gently as his gentle hums lull you to slumber. it’s the same voice that asked you if you would wait for him when the seasons changed. it’s the same voice who whispered sweet nothings to you during those late nights when it was only you and him.
you turn around to look at him. mina’s right by his side, looking a little uncomfortable by the interaction.
he looks as handsome as ever — wearing a suit from armani’s latest collection. your eyes focus on the cufflinks he’s wearing, the same pair you bought him for his birthday two years ago.
his gaze is heavy and you feel trapped underneath it. was it possible for him to be your biggest daydream and your greatest nightmare all at once?
“thank you,” you clear your throat. “i’m glad you both could make it.”
you fail to decipher the look in his eyes. you feel as if time has stopped, and there’s no one else in the room except you and him. mina averts her gaze, feeling as if this is too intimate for her to see.
mark whispers delicately to you, but you swear that he’s screaming.
“we wouldn’t miss it.”
it’s two hours later when you feel completely exhausted, walking outside to catch some fresh air. you’ve talked to yukhei only once since the party’s started. he’s been distracted by ten and yangyang, all three of them laughing and catching up with one another. you have no problems with this considering it’s the happiest you’ve seen yukhei in weeks.
you settle down on the outdoor steps, sighing softly and gazing at the night sky.
you hear the door open but you figure it’s just doyoung leaving early. he usually has morning meetings but he always makes sure to attend these gatherings for his friends.
you’re surprised when you catch mark in the corner of your eye, taking a seat beside you. you freeze, not really sure exactly what he’s doing.
“we could’ve made it work.”
you pause for a few seconds before responding.
“no, we couldn’t have.”
he chuckles and shakes his head, staring down at the concrete steps. you bring your knees up to your chest and rest your chin on top of them.
to have mark this close to you after so long — it felt both terrifying and freeing at the same time.
“we should’ve left,” he whispers. you hear the crack in his voice and you shut your eyes. “that night in plaka. we should’ve run away. you’re not supposed to be with him and i’m not supposed to be with her.”
“you’re wrong,” you murmur, feeling choked up already. “we were always meant to be with them. xuxi would’ve searched for me if i had left-“
“bullshit,” mark hisses, turning to face you now. you keep your eyes closed but you can feel his stare burning through the side of your head. “look at what yukhei’s done just to make you happy. you honestly think he wouldn’t let you go if he knew it’s what you wanted?”
you can feel a tear slip out and you sniffle, wiping it away frantically with the back of your hand. mark’s heart breaks at the sight of you crying.
“i don’t want to argue with you,” you whisper breathily. “what’s done is done. you get married to mina and i get married to yukhei. that’s how it was always supposed to go.”
you think mark will leave then, but he stays by your side, eyes staring up at the moon. you can hear the tremble in his voice the next time he speaks.
“i fucking miss you. i miss you so fucking much, you don’t even understand,” he says, hands balling up into fists. “i wish we could go back. remember that night we met in athens? you looked straight out of heaven, i swear. i knew i wanted you then. just like how i want you now.”
“stop,” you mutter. “stop saying those things.”
“why? it’s the truth,” he scoffs.
you feel a burst of anger flare in your chest. your eyes flutter open and you glare at him.
“you think i don’t miss you either? you think that that summer meant nothing to me? fuck, mark, i think about you all the goddamn time. i think about you when i’m supposed to be thinking about yukhei. when i’m supposed to be marrying him, not you.”
the door swings open again and you both turn to see who it is. yukhei walks out, his face confused by the sight of your teary eyes. he rushes over, leaning down and checking on you.
“hey, you okay? what happened?”
“nothing,” you smile at him, giggling a little to reassure him. “i just drank too much champagne. mark was out here comforting me.”
mark looks frustrated by your words, and he’s clearly not liking the fact that yukhei’s trying to take care of you. his hands are still balled into fists as he stands up. he puts on his best grin for yukhei to see.
“just wanted to make sure the birthday girl has a good time,” he assures. you watch as he walks back into the building, his figure disappearing into the sea of bodies.
“you sure you’re okay?” yukhei murmurs, checking you over again. he’s never really seen you cry and he’s honestly panicking a little on the inside.
you put on your best smile once again.
“i’m fine.”
“mark, this is my sister, y/n. y/n, this is mark.”
you smile at the man jaehyun has presented before you. you’re a little tipsy and you quickly adjust the birthday girl tiara that’s threatening to fall off your head. jaehyun laughs at your ridiculousness.
“nice to meet you, mark lee. my brother talks so fondly of his soulmate.”
mark chuckles out of embarrassment, the tips of his ears growing red. “ah, jaehyun just jokes about that.”
jaehyun rolls his eyes. “don’t act like we weren’t meant to be, mark.”
mark’s cheeks grow redder if it was even humanly possible. you giggle at his cute nature. jaehyun is soon whisked away by johnny, who is asking your brother to play beer pong with him. you snicker at their antics.
you’re left alone with mark, and to be perfectly honest, he’s a little awkward. a little too awkward to be a big shot ceo.
“aren’t you supposed to be the heir of lee enterprises?” you shout over the blaring music. it’s only fitting that jaehyun chose a raging club in athens as the venue for your party this year. you were genuinely having a good time, especially because you didn’t have to worry about pretending to be in love with yukhei — he couldn’t join the trip since he needed to step up to his duties at the company.
mark laughs at your question. “that’s my brother, taeyong! i’m just the stand-in second child.”
you smile at his joke. “same here! i’m the disappointment, jaehyun’s the looker!”
you both chuckle and you take a step forward, ignoring the way mark’s breath gets caught in his throat at your action. you lean up to whisper in his ear.
“wanna get out of here?”
you toss and turn in bed, struggling to fall asleep. yukhei grumbles next to you, having fallen asleep over a hour ago. you sigh and get up as quietly as possible, trying your best not to wake your fiancé. you succeed as yukhei doesn’t move an inch, still as a rock while he dozes on.
you move to the balcony connected to your bedroom, shutting the door quietly and taking a seat on one of the lounge chairs. it’s a little cold and you wrap your blanket tighter around yourself.
the party ended without a hitch tonight, most of your friends still laughing and drinking together when you and yukhei left. he was worried about you after he caught you outside with mark, but after repeatedly reassuring him that you were okay, he let it go.
you didn’t see mark after your conversation, and you assume he left quickly with mina to avoid doing something he would regret. you think about his words as you stare down at the small streets of paris. you can still hear people chattering even though it’s already 4am, most of them drunk and stumbling on their way back home.
your mind travels to the last night you spent with mark during that summer. he was begging you to leave with him, practically on his knees to try and convince you.
“just come with me. we can start a different life. we don’t have any ties to hold us down! jaehyun and taeyong will both take over our companies, they don’t need us to be there!”
you shake your head at his ludicrous idea. “are you insane? did you forget about mina? about yukhei? they’re both waiting for us to come home, mark.”
“i am home,” he says strictly, walking over to you and gently stroking your cheek. “i’m right here with you, and that’s the only place i need to be. we don’t need to do this to ourselves, baby. we don’t need to separate. let’s get on the next flight to wherever and start a new life.”
you push him away and sigh. “we can’t. i can’t do that to him.”
“do you love him?”
you narrow your eyes. “no, and you know very well that i never have. i’m just not going to be some asshole who leaves her fiancé and her family with no explanation whatsoever. we both knew this wasn’t forever, mark.”
he tugs at his hair, clearly frustrated with your stubborn nature.
“so you’re telling me that you’re going to go home and act like everything’s fine? you’re going to walk down the aisle and get married to yukhei and not think of me?”
you turn away from him, trying to hold back the tears that are threatening to spill. realization is hitting you like a truck — this would have to be it. you can’t see mark again. everything that’s happened since the beginning of summer is coming to an end.
“yes, that’s exactly what i’m going to do. i recommend you do the same.”
mark watches your back tremble as you refuse to face him. he exhales, running his hands down his face exasperatedly. minutes pass in complete silence, the only sound being heard are your small sniffles and mark’s occasional sigh.
“i love you,” he whispers. “i love you, and that’s not going to stop. i don’t care if i have to tell yukhei myself, but i’m going to make you realize it.”
the weight of mark’s words still linger in your mind. you ponder over the consequences if you do decide to leave yukhei. honestly, you didn’t want to break his heart. he’s always been so kind to you and understanding, despite your indifference towards him. he’s treated you that way since you two were younger. the only flaw about yukhei is that he loves you.
you wish you had one of those romance stories where you grew up with yukhei and fell in love with him when you both became adults. it would make everything so much easier if that were the case.
on the other hand, you couldn’t embarrass your family. your parents have worked so hard just to build the family business from the ground up. jaehyun’s been trained to step in as ceo since the day he was born, and the merger with naeun and yukhei’s family would bring your company’s profits through the roof. you couldn’t afford to lose yukhei and potentially damage the future of jung corporation.
you can’t decipher if you’re using these reasons as excuses. you’ve always been scared to go against your parents’s wishes. you were so young when they told you that you would be married to yukhei, and you’ve been raised to believe that everything they’re doing for you is for your own good.
maybe you really were a coward. you’re just afraid to fully take the leap with mark — to leave everything behind and be known as a disgrace to the rest of your family. mark was ready to sacrifice everything to be with you, but your cowardice prevented you from doing the same.
the door to the balcony opens and yukhei peers out, rubbing his eyes and yawning.
“what are you doing out here?”
“couldn’t sleep.”
he joins you on the balcony, gently shutting the door behind him. he settles on the chair next to you. you both bask in the silence for a while before yukhei speaks up.
“have you been in love with mark for a long time?”
your head darts up, eyes widening at his question. you stare at yukhei but he doesn’t look at you, continuing to peer over the balcony.
“w-what- how did you-“
“you never cry,” he replies. “you only cry when you’re overwhelmed or seriously hurt. i’ve seen you drink at least seven glasses of champagne without ever tearing up. it also wasn’t hard to tell that mark wanted to murder me as soon as i came over to you.”
“yukhei,” you whisper. “i-“
“i know. you don’t need to be sorry. i should’ve known — you were always so dismissive and standoffish whenever we were at a party with the lee’s. you also weren’t the same when you returned from greece.”
you try to digest the fact that not only did yukhei know about you and mark, but he also knew you so well that he could tell something was off about you.
he takes a brief pause before asking his next question. “did you think i would be mad? that i wouldn’t let you be happy?”
you shake your head. “i just- i couldn’t disappoint everybody-“
he throws his head back and releases a throaty laugh.
“y/n, who gives a fuck about what anyone thinks? i’ve watched you be miserable over the past two years because you’re torturing yourself with this idea that you need to please everyone.” he turns to you and takes your hands in his. “i really do love you. more than i’ve ever loved anyone else. so that’s why i’m telling you that you need to find mark and be with him before it’s too late.”
“xuxi, it’s not that easy-“
“but it is!” he exclaims, trying to get you to see the bigger picture. “don’t you understand how easy it is? listen, the merger with your family is already ninety-five percent complete. there’s no way in hell my father is going to back out of this, especially after our stocks rose by a considerable amount last month. we don’t need to be married. our relationship was just the first step for both of our companies.”
your bottom lip trembles while you register all of the information he’s throwing your way. yukhei is telling you that you can be with mark now, you have nothing holding you back. everything would be perfect if you just weren’t so-
“scared,” you mumble. “i’m so scared, xuxi.”
“i know, i know you are,” he says, eyes staring at you in worry. “just talk to him. if he loves you, he’ll listen.”
when you come back home, you’re a little out of touch with reality. the first thing yukhei wants you to do is call mark but since you’re still trying to register everything, he lets you be.
he takes the guest room while you try to sort out whatever the fuck is going on in your head. you call naeun in the midst of your imminent breakdown, and she answers immediately.
“why can’t me and yukhei be like you and jaehyun?”
she’s a little startled by your question but she replies anyway.
“because you don’t love yukhei. you love mark.”
and it sounds so idiotic because you already knew this, but hearing someone else say it makes all the lightbulbs click.
“thanks, naeun.”
the first person you want to talk to is mina. you really don’t know mina well, the both of you simply acknowledging each other at parties. her brother, seungyoon, was the head of kang corporation and working on the merger with taeyong.
you’re in your head as you drive over to the kang household, fingers gripping the steering wheel while you try to think of what to say.
mina is surprised when she opens up the door to see your figure behind it. you both awkwardly stare at one another before you clear your throat.
“can we talk?”
she nods, stepping back to let you in. you two rest comfortably on the kang’s living room couch while one of the maids serves some tea for the both of you to drink. mina avoids your gaze but you can tell she is curious about why you’ve decided to visit.
“um,” you start off, trying to find the words to say. “i came over because i wanted to talk to you about mark.”
“oh. well, mark isn’t here,” she replies. “he hasn’t lived with me since he came back from greece.”
“oh,” you murmur, feeling embarrassed. you’re sure that mark’s living situation changed because of you. “i didn’t know that.”
she sighs. “y/n, i wasn’t lying that night when i told you i wished things were different. i don’t love mark and i know for sure he doesn’t love me. you’re all he can think about since that summer, and we only put on a good show for the cameras.”
you exhale. “i’m sorry. we shouldn’t have been so reckless, especially knowing you and yukhei were waiting-“
you’re surprised when mina throws her head back and laughs.
“i don’t care about that.” she comes over and sits next to you, looking into your eyes. “i actually love someone else just as mark loves you. i loathe this marriage as much as you do.”
you widen your eyes. “wait, what? who?”
mina blushes then, averting her gaze from you. she clears her throat.
“do you know the hwang family?”
you choke. “hwang hyunjin?”
her cheeks grow redder as she nods. she stares down at her feet while she speaks to you. “that’s not the point. i’m just saying that if you want to go to mark, by all means, i’m not stopping you. it would make him less grumpy.”
you laugh, feeling as if a big weight has been taken off your shoulders.
“thank you, mina.”
you head to lee enterprises on a mission, wearing mark’s favorite floral dress and the cartier necklace he bought you. you know he’s bound to be in the office right now, especially since taeyong is away in japan for business affairs.
you’re nervous as you can feel the stares of the company workers on you when you walk through the glass doors. you keep your head low and sigh when you get to the elevator, pressing the highest floor before anyone can get in with you.
you go over and over in your head what you plan to say to mark but you know you’re going to forget everything anyways the moment you see him. when the elevator doors open, you scan the area and try to identify where mark’s office is before anyone sees you.
you’re caught when jungwoo lays his eyes on you as he walks by.
“y/n?”
you laugh awkwardly. “uh, hey, jungwoo. do you happen to know where mark’s office is?”
he blinks twice, clearly surprised by your presence.
“yeah, um, his office is in the back. next to taeyong’s.”
“thanks,” you mutter, glancing at him one more time before scurrying away. you’re fully embarrassed now but you can’t afford to go back, not when you’ve made it this far.
you awkwardly enter the waiting room of mark’s office and his secretary, renjun, is shocked to see you.
“oh, hi y/n. did you have an appointment with mark?”
“not really,” you reply. “is he with someone right now?”
“well, no, but-“
“okay, great!” you beam at him, and renjun stutters when you knock on the door to mark’s office.
when you hear him call come in, you take a deep breath before opening the door.
mark is working diligently at his desk, head down as he shuffles through papers. you close the door so that renjun doesn’t hear anything. mark’s yet to look up at you, focused on the task at hand.
“what is it, renjun?”
“i’m a coward, and i’m sorry.”
mark’s head darts up at the sound of your voice, and he swears he’s dreaming.
there’s absolutely no way you’re standing in front of him right now. he stands up, pinching his leg to make sure he’s actually awake. you walk closer to him, trying to gather all of the courage you can muster.
“we should’ve run away together.”
he comes over to you, stumbling a little and almost tripping on one of the chairs, causing you to giggle. he stands in front of you but he’s lost on if he’s allowed to touch you. you smile and decide for him, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing him gently.
mark digs his fingers into your hips and pulls you closer. the kiss quickly turns into something else as mark is greedily trying to get you as close to him as possible.
you pull away, slightly breathless. “don’t you want to know why i’m here?”
“i haven’t had you like this in two years, baby. i don’t really give a fuck about anything else right now.”
you end up pinned underneath him as he lays your body across his desk, desperate to get a feel of you. he stumbles as he quickly tries to find the phone and you watch him click a few buttons before renjun’s voice comes over the speaker.
“yes?”
“cancel everything today. you can go home early, renjun.”
“mark, you have that meeting with-“
he hangs up the phone, returning to pressing kisses against your collarbone. his fingers work on pushing up your dress so he can fully see the lacy underwear you’re wearing.
“mark,” you hiss, trying to get him to slow down so you can actually have a conversation with him. he’s rabid at this point, pulling down the top of your dress and attaching his lips to your mound. “mark, i wanted to let you know that i finally realized how stupid i was during that summer.”
he hums around your breast, flicking his tongue over your nipple. you moan and tug at his hair.
“mark, yukhei made me realize something.”
“please don’t talk about yukhei right now,” he murmurs, moving his attention to your other breast. “you’re so pretty, baby. did you wear this dress just for me? you know how much i like it. gives me easy access. remember when i fucked you in that alleyway in plaka?”
and you do remember. you were high on adrenaline that day and mark was absolutely mesmerized by the way your dress would bounce whenever you took a step. he was practically dying to get a taste of you and so you let him pound you ruthlessly in an empty alleyway. it didn’t end there either — he also fingered you in a cafe bathroom and let you ride his cock on the balcony of your shared apartment in athens.
let’s just say mark really liked this dress and you two were also very sexually active that summer.
“missed you, baby,” he murmurs. “haven’t fucked anyone else in two years.”
your eyes widen. “you haven’t fucked anyone in two years?”
he shakes his head. “can’t. only think of you.”
he moves up so that he’s face to face with you again. you rub your thumb over his cheek.
“i’m sorry. i love you. i wish i wasn’t so stupid.”
he laughs. “you’re not stupid. a little out of your mind, maybe.”
you whine when mark plays with the waistband of your underwear.
“aren’t we going a little too fast?”
he chuckles. “this is coming from the girl who rented a whole movie theater just so we could fuck in there all day.”
you narrow your eyes. “touché.”
soon enough, mark’s got your dress and underwear on the floor, his tongue lapping at your folds. you cry out, tugging fistfuls of his hair while he devours your pussy.
mark’s clearly clouded by lust and the office is filled with sounds of him slurping your juices. you try to give mark a warning that your orgasm is approaching fast, but he’s lost in his own world, eyes closed as he eats you out. you soar into your first orgasm and sob, bucking your hips up into mark’s mouth.
he groans when you cum, not stopping his relentless assault on your pussy. you whine from the overstimulation and try to push him away, but mark is persistent, using his hands to pin your thighs down to the table.
you forgot how much mark likes to see you cum. you remember being completely drained that summer in greece after mark pounded into you every night, desperate to see you fall apart over and over again.
you throw your head back when another climax builds just as quickly as the first. he pulls away from you and pushes a finger inside your weeping hole, curling it upwards.
“missed this pussy, baby,” he murmurs. “forgot how wet and tight you are. gonna take my cock later like a good girl?”
“yes, yes,” you chant, moaning when mark adds another finger.
“come on, baby. come on,” he whispers, picking up his pace and inserting a third finger. to throw you over the edge, he attaches his lips to your clit and sucks hard.
you thrash underneath his hold as your orgasm sweeps over your body, heightening your senses and throwing you deep into pleasure. you ride out your high on his fingers and when you whine again from the oversensitivity, mark stands up and unbuckles his belt.
you gasp when he lifts you off from the desk and drags you over to the large, glass windows that cover half of his office. you whimper when he presses you up against the glass.
you’re high enough to where the people walking on the sidewalk can’t see you unless they really looked, but the thrill still pulsates through your veins. you can’t even imagine what you look like — your breasts exposed and your dress bunched up at your waist.
mark’s grunting behind you, slacks around his ankles as he fists at his cock. you whine and arch your back, desperate to feel him fully.
“want me, baby?” he whispers in your ear. you shudder. “tell me how much you missed me.”
“m-missed you s-so much,” you blubber, pressing your hands up against the window. “fuck me mark, please.”
he slowly pushes into you and you cry at the stretch, feeling the burn in your throat. he soothes you through it, rubbing his thumb over your hip when he bottoms out. he gives you time to get adjusted, pressing small kisses against the curve of your spine.
“feel so good, baby. wet and snug around me, you fit like a fucking glove. did yukhei ever fill you this well?”
“i-i never f-fucked yukhei,” you reply.
the answer pleases him and he takes an experimental thrust into you. when you moan at the pleasure, mark turns into someone else.
you try your best to balance yourself on the glass while mark relentlessly pummels into you, pushing you further and further up the window. his hands move to cup your breasts and he licks at your neck, wanting to touch you everywhere.
“a-angel,” he hisses in your ear, the sound of his balls slapping against your clit filling the air. “my perfect little angel. little cock whore, aren’t you?”
you barely register his words and mark growls when he doesn’t receive an answer. his fingers grip your face and he brings you against his chest. you sob when the angle has him hitting you deeper.
“don’t wanna answer? been fucked too dumb to reply, baby? missed my cock, didn’t you?” you quickly nod at his questions, eyes rolling back as he constantly hits your sweet spot. “thought about you all the time. jacked off every single night to the thought of having you like this again. missed you so much.”
“m-missed you too, mark,” you mumble back to him.
his other hand moves down to stimulate your clit and you grip his wrist, your body going into overdrive. you convulse around his cock and you spasm around him, crying and whining while mark holds you firmly.
he moves the two of you so that he’s sitting in his office chair with you on top of him. you wail when he slaps your ass.
“ride me.”
despite your shaky legs, you follow his orders and build a steady pace on top of him. he watches as you swivel your hips and groans at how good you feel around him. you pick up your pace when the pleasure builds up in your tummy again. mark’s fingers dig into your hips as he tries to guide you up and down his cock. you grab his shoulders and move faster, bouncing on top of him.
you practically see white when you cream mark’s cock for the fourth time, wrapping your arms around him when your body goes limp. he gives you a few seconds to recover before thrusting into you.
you whine. “mark, i can’t.”
“don’t lie to me, baby.”
and you remember that mark’s seen you come at least seven times in one night, so he knows no feat is impossible.
he lazily fucks you to another orgasm and you let him use your body until he shoots ribbons of his cum deep inside you, groaning loudly as he empties out. he doesn’t stop until almost a minute later, giving you everything he has.
you can already feel some of his cum start to spill out but you and mark don’t care as you kiss each other gently. mark holds you close, not wanting to part from you any longer.
“what are we gonna do?” you ask him quietly.
“about what?”
you roll your eyes. “about our engagements! and the company’s merger too.”
“i’m sure mina would be more than happy to be engaged to hyunjin, and i can talk about the merger with taeyong. i’ll make it work, baby, don’t worry. how about yukhei?”
“he’s the one who told me to come to you.”
“huh,” mark hums. “maybe he isn’t that bad.”
“he isn’t! you’re just jealous,” you murmur.
“can’t help it. i love the prettiest girl alive.”
“you’re spending too much time with johnny.”
he smiles and kisses you.
“we’re going to be together, baby. i’ll make sure of it.”
“merci, bonne journée à toi aussi!”
the young man at the bakery smiles and waves at you as you exit. you carefully place the cake you ordered in the back of your car, making sure it’s safely tucked away before driving off.
you hum lowly to the sound of the music vibrating through the speakers. it isn’t long before you reach your apartment, quickly parking and unloading everything inside.
you get to setting the cake up immediately, lighting the candles and clearing the kitchen counter. you jump a little when you hear the familiar click of the front door.
“y/n?”
“in here!” you call, quickly holding the cake up in your hands as mark walks into the room. “happy birthday!”
he grins at you, laughing as he walks over. you sing a horrible rendition of the birthday song to him but mark loves it anyways, giving you a kiss on the lips before blowing out his candles. you cheer for him and smile, placing the cake safely back down on the counter.
“thank you, baby,” he hums, kissing your temple. “i love it.”
you and mark moved to paris shortly after reuniting. as soon as taeyong returned from his business trip, mark worked day and night to try and get the merger with mina’s family to go through. mina’s father was at first appalled by mark’s decision to leave his daughter but once he learned of mina’s own relationship with hyunjin, he agreed to keeping the merger. knowing the company was in safe hands with taeyong, mark had no qualms about leaving.
yukhei was able to successfully merge his and your family’s company without letting anyone know of your relationship problems. your last conversation with him still leaves your mind dizzy, but you’re grateful to him for everything he’s done for you.
“you don’t deserve this, xuxi. i’m sorry for not being who you wanted me to be.”
yukhei shakes his head, leaning back in the dining room chair. he knows you leave for paris tomorrow to start your new life with mark, and he doesn’t want you to feel guilty about anything.
“you have nothing to be sorry about. i’m just glad you’re finally happy. i’ve never seen you like this before.”
you smile shyly. “yeah, i guess i’m acting a little different now. i hope you could visit us in paris someday.”
he smiles. “count me in. don’t forget to add the wedding invitation.”
jaehyun was a little more reluctant on letting his baby sister run off with one of his friends to a different county. naeun was able to soothe most of his worries and your departure was one of the first times you’ve seen jaehyun cry.
it was also the first time you’ve seen him threaten mark.
now, you and mark live a peaceful life in france. given most of your inheritance was cut in half due to your strike of ‘rebellion against the family,’ mark found a small job producing music at a local recording studio and you took to practicing what little business knowledge you acquired from your parents by investing in some new homes around paris.
you were living the life you always wanted with mark, and you couldn’t be happier.
you’re interrupted from your thoughts by the feeling of mark sliding his hands up your shirt.
“i think i know what i want for my birthday present.”
you laugh and kiss him, letting the birthday boy take you the way he wants.

Meet Aleki, my 'canon' protag for Sins of the Sires!
14th generation Thinblood, originally (and unbeknownst to him) of Tzimisce background. Using a bit of gameplay-story segregation here, his only disciplines are a bit of Animalism and Auspex, and developing Insight. High-humanity, Certified Soft Boy(tm) (no seriously ended the game on 87% Soft). Used to be a history and literature student (he was only twenty-one at Embrace, not quite a PhD student yet) with a fondness for going out dancing. Hasn't done that in a while, he's become a bit worn down after ten years of working for/serving Markos, but meeting Gor is deeply inspiring.
Femme (cis but very gnc), forestcore aesthetic. Enjoys soft, generally dark autumnal colours, corduroy, frogs, mushrooms, and sunflowers, lip gloss, crop tops, and trying to make the Prince decide if he should be kicked out of Elysium or not. Bagger, has one of those insulated coffee cups covered in cute stickers that he keeps his blood in.
One of his strongest latent Tzimisce traits is that he just enjoys putting his bare feet in the soft soil and being at peace. Probably one of the few Thinbloods to genuinely be delighted with his status because it means he can see the sun again. Has emotional support bat famalus named Nyx and will make "I am the night" jokes at every opportunity.
Disciplines: Animalism 2 (Bond Famalus, Feral Whispers), Auspex 2 (Sense the Unseen, Premonition)
Merits & Flaws: Anarch Comrades, Discipline Affinity / Branded by the Camarilla, Bestial Temper
Predator Type: Bagger
Basically doing a hybrid version of like... four different endings/outcomes for his 'canon' backstory. Cut for spoilers!
So I'm using a smidge of version 1.0 here (with my not!Pyre version), mostly based on my... assorted attempts with Aleki himself. Version 7.0 is here, 7.1 is here, and 7.3 is here (we don't talk about 7.2).
Pretty much follows 7.0 up until Belgrade. Bonded with Gor, started a romance with him. Got Nyx the bat friend, spared Savvas because he could see himself in his place. After meeting Sophia, he was sent after Gor, went, "Um, no" and escaped with him to Belgrade. From there:
v1.0: Sees Kapriel in Belgrade, but he and Gor are able to evade him and escape.
v7.1: Aleki agrees to return to Athens with Kapriel to protect Gor and the others and to prevent a fight breaking out.
No actual version: Gor manages to evade Kapriel!
v7.0: Aleki is blood bound to Kapriel and taken to Sophia. The coup fails. The Prince brands Aleki with the Thinblood symbol.
v7.1: Aleki fails to convince Selene to stop. She (and Aleki's ex Nikos) still die in the explosion, but Vole is able to get to Aleki and hide him away.
v7.0: The SI descends upon Athens and takes out most of the Camarilla, except this time...
No actual version: ...Kapriel is captured and imprisoned.
v7.0: Aleki stays with Vole for the year to be weaned off the blood bond...
v7.3: ...then returns to Thessaloniki and finds Gor there.
Still kind of tense. Aleki is pretty traumatised after being captured, forcibly blood bound, branded, and failing to save his ex and a whole lot of others from death, and things between him and Gor are pretty slow to progress, both having trust issues (Gor's well-established, Aleki's brand new) and both paranoid that Kapriel will one day escape the SI. Still in contact with Vole, who Aleki is now very close to after spending a year recovering with him. Markos died in the SI raid, Persa supposedly survived but has since vanished. He thinks he saw her once, watching from across the street.
Helps Gor out in the refugee camps and squats. Tries not to think about the last eleven years in Athens. Sometimes still goes out dancing, and, if he can, will watch the sunrise before settling into day sleep with Gor. They're... getting there, one night at a time.

Bodyguard Lee Pt. 2
You met a kind stranger wandering the streets of Athens who was willing to go out of his way to help you. But across the globe weeks later you cross paths with him again. Could having this many unexpected meetings be a happy coincidence or an ill-fated destiny?
word count:2k
Tumblr media
Three days later you were back in Seoul and unpacking your luggage. It had been the most exhausting and chaotic week of your life and you were happy that you were finally able to at least get back to your normal routines. And while things weren’t going to slow down for you any time soon you at least had more of a sense of normalcy.
You smiled to yourself as you unpacked all of your trinkets and threw your used clothes into the laundry. But most of all you were excited to see your mom and share with her the necklace that you had found for her while you were out looking for souvenirs. You thought back on that night and smiled to yourself.
The man that had helped you in Greece gave you such a good impression of the city that was so miserable for you so far. As the two of you drove past historical buildings and prominent locations he explained their significance. And any place that you wanted to go to he took you there with a smile on his face. by the end of the night you felt like the two of you had been friends who had met each other for the first time in a while as opposed to the strangers that you were. The two of you talked amongst yourselves and you found out that he was a Korean national who was working in Greece. Most importantly there was no pressure to act a certain way in front of him because of who you were, everything was completely natural instead. If it wasn’t for his assistance you would have gone back to your hotel empty handed and upset that you weren’t able to find anything to bring back. And In the end you weren’t able to get his last name to give him a proper thank you or even find him on social media but you would always remember his first name. Taemin.
“shit” you screeched out as the sound of your ringtone startled you out of your fond memories.
You pulled out your phone and took a deep breath before you answered the call from your manager. You couldn’t go a single hour without someone from your company trying to contact you about something. you had just gotten dropped off outside of your apartment less than 30 minutes ago, and you were happy that you were able to be in your own space once more. But now you were back to being the busy entertainer once more.
“hello?” you asked bitterly, not even bothering to conceal the disappointment and frustration in your voice.
“y/n, tomorrow morning the company wants to recruit some new security team members to travel with us while you go on tour. I’ve sent you their resumes so take a look and let me know who your top three are. They want to hire the new members as soon as possible so they can start their training.” Your manager quickly barked out before she hung up on you.
You pulled the phone away from your face and double checked that she really hung up on you, and the moment you confirmed you scoffed. What the hell… you thought to yourself. I guess she needs the time off as much as I do too.
You quickly opened up your email and looked at the recently received message and scowled. You had never hired someone before and you didn’t know what to look for in a resume to make an educated decision on who to hire. And you honestly didn’t care who would end up being on your security team as long as they would protect you and were professional.
You clicked on the message and opened the attachments to see ten resumes in total. You let out a sigh and meticulously went through each persons accomplishments and previous employment. Each one of them had a lot of strong accomplishments and experience that would make them valuable members. And you were completely at a loss as to who to choose until you looked at the last resume. He was last employed by the Korean ambassador who was stationed in Greece, he had lost of merits and rewards and he seemed to be very professional.
You grinned to yourself and mentally congratulated the man for being in the running. You scrolled up to see his name and information and your eyes almost jumped out of your head when you saw his application headshot.
“Taemin?” you asked out loud in complete disbelief.
The chances of this happening was slim to none. No, it was less than that. It was almost impossible.
But if his resume didn’t already speak for itself his helpfulness and courtesy of helping you in Greece did. You didn’t really care who the other two members would be, but you knew for a fact that you wanted Taemin as one of your members. It was the last thing that you could do for him since you weren’t ever able to properly thank him.
You immediately emailed your manager back that you didn’t care who the other two were but you absolutely wanted Taemin on your team, and then shut down your laptop. You were excited to see Taemin once more and congratulate him on getting the job. You imagined how shocked he would be to see you once more but this time as a prominent entertainer.
The next morning you got up with a smile. It felt good to sleep a normal amount of time and in your own bed again. You took your time enjoying your morning coffee and you relaxed as you got ready. You had opted to wear something more casual and comfortable for the day since you had worn such heavy and extreme clothes during your shoot.
when your manager had finally arrived at your apartment she gave you a call and you quickly grabbed your belongings and met her in your van.
“good morning” she said chipperly
“morning” you replied back
“today your schedule is a little tight” your manager said with a sorry tone “this morning we have a photoshoot for promotions, then you have a vocal and choreography training session. After a short lunch break you have an interview and then in the evening you have a meeting with the producers and event coordinators.”
You leaned forward towards your managers seat “will we have time to see the candidates for the security team?” you asked her hopeful that you would be able to greet Taemin on the team personally
Your manager hummed and looked at the clock “im not too sure what time their final interview is but with your schedule today its pretty unlikely.” She said
You sat back in your seat and let out a small sigh. It was too bad that you wouldn’t be able to see Taemin, but this was your life. Constantly missing out on the things that you want to do.
The time was currently 7pm and you were staring at the sunset as your day finally came to an end. You were waiting for your manager to pull your car around in the garage when you had made eye contact with someone who you didn’t expect to see.
“y/n-ssi” one of the directors called out to you.
You had immediately turned to him with a professional smile and bowed in greeting but inside you were dying. You had hoped that he was going to simply pass by you but instead he had stopped right next to you.
“I wanted to introduce you to the newest members of your security team.” He said holding a hand out towards the three men that were behind him.
Your eyes immediately widened and your attention was heightened. You didn’t think that seeing taemin would be possible today but you were gladly proven wrong.
“this is Seonghwa, Minho, and Kai” the director stated their names
As soon as you saw the faces of each of the new members your smile immediately turned into a frown. You had looked at each of the men and then up to the company director. Sure you had seen each of the men’s resumes and they were highly qualified, but if you had met any of them on the side of the road and asked for help you were sure that none of them could give you the same treatment as Taemin gave you in Greece.
“director, may I speak to you for a minute?” you asked him and he gave you a gesture to walk a distance away to speak. Once the two of you were a few yards away from the gentlemen you whispered your questions. “what happened to Taemin-ssi?” you asked “I really liked his resume and thought that he would be really good for the job.”
The director gave you a smile before he answered “we did too. His resume and previous employment was quite impressive. However, he wasn’t interested in a job that required leaving the country. He is interested in more of a regular full-time job in Korea.” He answered
You lowered your head and let out a small sigh. Although you were hopeful to run into him again it was understandable that he would want to stay in Korea since he had been in Greece for a while. And you couldn’t blame him for that. He probably also had a family in Korea that he missed dearly.
“I understand” you said to the director
The two of you shared a mutual look of agreement before you approached the new men once more.
“congratulations on joining the team.” You said to the men giving them a smile “ill be off now. have a good night”
The men politely bowed and responded with goodnight and get home safely. You had bowed back politely and then retreated to the parking garage where your manager would pick you up.
You hadn’t received a message from your manager yet that she had arrived but you wanted to get out of the building as quickly as possible. Your hopes of having taemin joining your team was a bummer, but you were more upset that you wouldn’t see him again more than anything.
It had felt like for the first time in a long time you were able to make a friend who wasn’t under any sort of impression or had expectations based on what your career was. And maybe you were reading too much into that night in Greece, but you really did feel like Taemin had become a friend. Or maybe it was just your brain creating a scenario out of nothing since you needed companionship so badly.
You had felt a tap on your shoulder and you had turned around without looking at the person. You were looking down at your feet when you had asked “can we stop at the convenience store before you drop me off at home?”
“sure. What do you need?” you heard a man’s voice asking back
You had immediately snapped your head up when you heard the voice that was so unfamiliar to you. You looked up at the mans face and was unable to recognize him past his black hat and mask that hid his facial features.
“im sorry, you must have the wrong person.” You said quietly and hid your face hoping that you could simply back away from the situation and wait inside for your manager.
“no, ive got the right person” he man said and his eyes crinkled in a smile
You looked him up and down and red flags went off and alarm bells rang in your head. The man pulled out a box cutter just far enough out of his jacket pocket for you to see as he pushed the blade out all the way.
“quietly, I want you to get into the car.” The man said in a scattered and panicked voice
You put your hands up and you began to take small shaky steps towards his car door. As you got closer the man circled around so he was no approaching you instead of you stepping towards him. When you opened the car door and sat down inside he began barking commands at you.
“put the ankle cuffs and handcuffs on.”
You nodded your head and you began to place the cuffs around your feet. But as tears sprung to your eyes and your hands began to shake you weren’t able to put on the cuffs as quickly as the man wanted you to.
“faster!” the man yelled and you began to sob
You tried to calm yourself down as you blinked away your tears and tried to focus. But the fear that swept through your body only made things worse.
How had no one seen you on the security cameras and come to help. What was taking your manager so long that she wasn’t here already. And why was this happening to you?
You had finally snapped the handcuffs on when you had heard a loud crunch and a body had hit the pavement next to you outside of the car. You looked down at the man who was now lying still and let out a loud sob when you saw the mans mask. When you realized that the danger was finally gone you looked up to who had saved you, and you completely lost control of your emotions.
Of all people who you had hoped would help you never did you imagine that it would be Taemin to your rescue.

Geralt and the Minotaur
Y’all can thank @bounce-a-coin-off-your-witcher for encouraging me to do this, I defs would have just thought about it for a couple months then forgot 😂
Pairing: None for this part
Warning: talk of violence and murder, retelling of Theseus and The Minotaur myth, talk of human sacrifice, if theres more plz let me know!
Summary/Notes: Myth background in case you didn’t go past the PJO books with your mythology obsession like I did. In ancient Greek mythology they believed in ‘joint fatherhood’ so basically the kid would have attributes from both fathers (bc philosophy was the tits back then not necessarily biology) King Aegeus (Vessimir) couldn’t produce an heir with his wife so he went to the Oracle of Delphi and she told him to ‘open his wine sack’ (helpful right?) long story short he bangs a princess and then Athena (patron goddess of Athens) tells the princess to go down to the sea with an offering where she bangs Posiden (co-patron god of Athens) hence Theseus (Geralt) is not only a demigod but a bastard prince.  I think this is all the background yall are gonna need if you don’t already know the myth
__________
Geralt knew the story well. For as long as he could remember, his mother would comb his stark white hair before bed and he would ask, “Tell me about my fathers?” She would smile fondly and begin to braid his hair in a pattern much like her own.
“My little hero, your fathers are powerful, fair, righteous men. You have not only the blessing and favor of Poseidon, but the right to the throne of Athens.”
When he was younger he would squirm and protest, “I know mumma, but who were they?”
Vissena would sigh and change the subject until he was older, at which point she began letting the crumbs fall from her words. Crumbs Geralt followed to the truth of his heritage, piecing together stories his grandfather had told him about a sword and sandals pinned beneath a stone.
When he was twelve, his mother told him the truth.
“You are destined to free the city of Athens from a terrible fate. When you can lift the stone and retrieve your father’s sword you may travel to his palace and claim your place as prince…” Her voice came to a strangled end before she coughed and continued “But you mustn't think about that now. You’ve rope to braid and cattle to feed.”
When he finally told her he was ready to try, her eyes welled with tears. She merely nodded, continuing to run the comb through her baby’s hair like she always had. He understood as he grew older why she was so reluctant to let him go. What mother can willingly send her child away in only destiny’s hands, regardless of his exceptional strength?
At 16, he succeeded in his first task, retrieving his father’s things, and set off to Athens. He went by land, wanting to rely on himself, not his grandfather’s wealth and power. He fought Perophes, disarming the practiced warrior with surprising little effort, to complete his second task. Fighting Coercion sent chills down his spine, with the man’s reputation for killing every opponent he faced he was certainly formidable, but he bested him nonetheless. His third task was complete. However, his name only became synonymous with ‘hero’ after slaying the wild boar.
His first kill was at 17, still on the road to Athens. He could have let Procrustes live, could have delivered him to the nearest king for imprisonment, but his gut had twisted at the thought of the consequences of his failure. He tied Procrustes to the same small table he tied all his victims before slicing clean through the giant man’s limbs that hung off the edge. Leaving him to bleed out like he’d done to the skeletons littering the floor. It only seemed fitting, though the memory still made him queasy on nights when he couldn't sleep.
Even upon arrival at his father’s home, there was danger staring back at him in those beautiful amethyst eyes. The prophetess Yennefer would stop at nothing to keep the life of luxury and power she’d gained. She whispered false prophecies in King Vessimir’s ear, convincing him this boy who claimed to be his son was nothing but an imposter. Geralt should have expected such a welcome.
As he lifted a cup of poisoned wine to his lips, Vessimir glimpsed the sword at his side, recognizing it in time to knock the ceramic out of his hand.
The vessel had yet to shatter on the floor before Vessimir had rounded on the violet eyed woman with fury in his eyes like none Geralt had ever seen.
The whole of the dining hall was holding their breath, waiting for the explosion to come.
King Vessimir whispered but one word, “Disappear.”
The woman glared daggers at Geralt as she waved her hand, stepping through a portal into nothing. He stared after her for a long time, having never witnessed manipulated magic up close and if he were honest with himself, he was a bit dazed.
As his father explained and apologized Geralt simply tilted his head in confusion, slowly putting the pieces together in his shock.
“Your sword, it was mine. You must forgive me, I believed a lie. I beg you.”
Geralt nodded, “You have a state to protect.”
Vessimir grasped him by his shoulders, “No, I have to protect you.”
Geralt smiled, endeared by the old king’s sudden saccharine sentiments, “I’m no boy anymore, you shouldn’t worry.”
As the rest of the guests at the banquet began to resume conversation Vessimir guided Geralt to a window overlooking the beautiful city that he would now be calling home, “So I’ve heard.  I would have thought your mother would raise you to be more merciful.”
Geralt eyed the ground, “Mercy for one who has killed so many and would kill again isn’t really mercy.” His voice was smaller than he would like, but after all these years of imagining his father, well he hadn’t expected a criticism of his ethics.
“Good.” Vessimir nodded, leaning against the edge of the window, “We can work on your tone, but that’s a good start.”
A tentative smile took over Geralt’s face, “Work on my tone?”
“If you’re going to rule Athens and defeat Crete, you’ll need to be more assertive. But none of that now,” Vessimir waved a hand and a servant brought two more goblets of wine, “Now, I want to get to know my son.”
-
The following months were filled with lessons, from Vessimir’s top generals in battle strategy and formal combat, from a matronly maid in etiquette and the cultural customs of the port city, and from Vessimir himself in diplomacy. Geralt was thrilled at first, ready to prove himself worthy, but the routine slowly lost its shine. Eskel and Lambert were no doubt excellent fighters and leaders, but there were only so many ways to disarm someone with every weapon in the royal arsenal, and they were running out of challenges for the boy. If that’s what you could call him anymore. With regular meals, unlike during his travels, and the way his trainers pushed him he was starting to look more worthy of his Olympian heritage and place at the throne.
He stood by his father’s side and paid careful attention to all of his meetings, every last one. Even the ones at dawn after a night of drinking with Eskel and Lambert.
He sat on a stool, a step down from the platform where his father’s throne was carved out of stone as he observed the nobles bringing their worries, reports, and complaints to the king from the outskirts of the territory. The large amphitheater was teeming with men ready to share their opinion. Geralt found that rarely did anyone bring something that really needed fixing, just listening was usually enough to soothe their egos. It was all rather mundane now, Geralt could mouth the words his father would say before they filled the air, until the last representative.
"My king, the spring is approaching, will we allow Crete to take our children yet again?”
Geralt’s brows knit together, eyes darting between the man and his father as they spoke.
Vessimir wiped a hand over his face, looking ten years older in an instant, “We don't have a navy that could even begin to challenge Crete’s. We have no choice.”
The gathered crowd erupted in shouts of outrage, only silenced when Vessimir stood, “It is the life of fourteen, or the life of the nation. Which will you surrender?”
There was more yelling, this time between a select few delegates, but Geralt ignored it and leaned to his right, lowering his voice so only Eskel could hear him.
“What does he mean ‘the life of fourteen’?”
Eskel frowned, “He hasn’t told you?”
Geralt glared at him, waiting for an explanation.
“King Minos’ son was killed at the games a good twenty or so years back, so as penance he takes fourteen virgins from us every nine years. Seven men, seven women, and feeds them to his bastard Minotaur.” Eskel glanced over Geralt’s shoulder at the king, a look of worry clear on his face.
“I thought the Minotaur was just a story, a parable of Crete’s barbaric nature.”
Eskel raised an eyebrow, not impressed by Geralt's literary analysis, “It’s no tale. It's as real as the ground under your feet, and it plays with its food.”
Geralt whipped his head back around to his father in time to catch his words, “There is no voting on war because of the brashness of your grandfather Letus, tread lightly. Until we have a reasonable plan of action all we can do is submit!"
Before he knew what his legs were doing Geralt was standing and shouting, "I'll go! Send me father! I'll kill the beast and return!"
Cheers erupted from the crowd but Geralt only cared about his father's reaction and Vessimir was still as stone. For a moment Geralt worried for his heart, then Vessimir gripped his arm and leaned in with a panicked look on his face, "You are my only son, I will not send you to your death." He growled.
Geralt felt a fire rising in his chest, "Your people are forced to send their children unwillingly yet when yours volunteers you're exempt? Does that seem fair to you?"
Vessimir’s grip tightened, nails digging into Geralt's arm, "Doesn't matter. You are the only heir. I can't risk the stability of the government."
Geralt stepped closer, making sure to stand at his full height, "Then you do not believe in me? In the power and blessings of Posiden that courses through me?"
Vessimir snarled but said nothing. Surely not used to being challenged, especially not so publicly, about his devotion to the gods.
Geralt lowered his voice, "I will go. I will free Athens as is my destiny, and I will come back to you unharmed." Geralt gripped his father's arm, and nearly pleaded, "I cannot sit idly by, you know I can't."
Vessimir's eyes softened ever so slightly as he released his grip, "I should have known your mother would raise a stubborn man."
Geralt grinned, "She said I got that from you."
The amphitheater had gone quiet, all eyes on the king and this strange new prince.
"Geralt will go." Vessimir sighed, clapping a hand on his son's shoulder. The crowd cheered in earnest this time and Geralt soaked it all in, their hope and elation. Vessimir raised a hand for silence and continued, "Now tell me, scholars and strategists, how will we bring him back alive?"

Let’s talk about “Biblically accurate” angels! This gets a little long.
First off, let me point out some background.  The Bible isn’t a single book.  It’s a collection of writings, composed by different people at different times for different purposes, each of which has been edited by later people entirely to fit entirely different purposes. Even for a single book, it’s often difficult to establish what parts go back to the original author, and even more difficult to establish who those authors were.
(I know there are believers who claim that the whole thing was dictated by God, but that’s not a claim that anything in the Bible actually makes.  Perhaps you’re thinking of the Koran?)
So these different writers had different ideas of what angels were, what they looked like, and what functions they served. Later writers -- most notably Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite (circa the late 5th or early 6th century CE) on the Christian side and Maimonides (late 12th century CE) on the Jewish side -- compiled all the mentions of angels and angel-like beings into hierarchies, codifying “Biblical” angels for later generations.  Pseudo-Dionysius (so-callled because, whoever he was, he was claiming to be Dionysius of Athens, converted to Christianity by Paul in Acts 17:34) claimed three Spheres of angels, each with three Orders (for a total of nine), while Maimonides (rabbi and physician working in the Islamic courts) said there were ten ranks -- and each of these orders or ranks or choirs or whatnot could be completely different creatures, depending on who you listen to.
To go back to first principles, the word “angel” comes from the Greek word angelos (ἄγγελος), which means “messenger”.  That’s the word used in the New Testament; in the Tanakh/Old Testament, it was the Greek translation of the Hebrew word mal’akh (מַלְאָךְ‎), which is essentially the same; the connotation is “one who is sent with a message”. Where this appears in the book of Genesis -- the location of 90% of traditional “Bible stories”, it seems always to be a creature that’s very much like a human, and indeed was often confused for being just another human.  These are the ones that talk to Abraham and Lot and Jacob. It's entirely possible that many of them weren't considered divine beings at all, and were just humans doing the same sorts of things as people described later as prophets.
But there are also two different types of beings in there. The first is mentioned at the end of the Eden story -- to bar the now-expelled humans from the Garden, God places as guards cherubim and a flaming sword. “Cherubim” is the plural of “cherub”. (At some point in Italian art these got confused with the figures of spiritelli, putti, and erotes -- fat, wingy babies -- but they originally seem to have been much more like the Egyptian sphinx or the Mesopotamian lamassu -- a beast, a lion or a bull, with the face of a human, usually with added wings.)  The cherubim were the exception to the commandment against graven images, as there were two mounted on the top of the Ark of the Covenant, to serve as God's earthly throne; He's referred to a few times as "He who is enthroned upon the cherubim".
The others are referred to as “the sons of God” -- who explicitly interbreed with human women and bring forth a race of giants, the nephilim. It really looks like this is a surviving remnant of early Hebrew polytheism, and these are just demigods, but when it became dogma that the primary god was the only God, they got retconned into half-angels.
But none of these are the critters that people are talking about when they say “Biblically accurate angels”. For them, we have to go to the book of Ezekiel. The eponymous prophet has a vision of first, humanoid “living creatures” with multiple faces and wings and stuff (who are later in the book identified as cherubim), and then four wheels "within wheels", with a bunch of eyes in the rims. On the wheels is a throne, and God sits on that. The wheels and throne are, together, God's chariot, but later writers decided that they were beings in their own right — they've got eyes, right? — terming them Ophanim, or thrones. Daniel has a similar vision, as do a lot of the non-canonical apocalypses of the second temple period.
Isaiah likewise describes (though not very clearly, none of these prophets do) beings with six wings — one pair to fly with, the other pairs covering their faces and their "feet" (pro tip: if the Old Testament mentions something weird about feet, it's likely a euphemism for a penis; c.f. Ruth and Boaz) — crying, "Holy, holy, holy", and calls them "seraphim". Later sources double down on their angelic status, but it's worth mentioning that everywhere else in the Tanakh, the words saraph and seraphim refer to serpents. So at least some depictions have them as flying snakes. Dragons? Isaiah says they have hands
Post-Old Testament works, including the Revelation of St. John, really multiply the kinds of weird critters that God has hanging around, and these are the ones that fill out Pseudo-Dionysus's list, but this is already too long.
My point is, a lot of the angels in the Bible just look like people. Sure, some angels start off by telling the people they've just appeared to, "Be not afraid" — but that's a thing you might need to tell a 14-year-old girl when you've just appeared in her bedroom at night, even if you aren't covered in eyeballs.
