I continue to clean out my fic list and feed you all plots to fics I will never write.

Maxiel/Top Chef AU

Danny owns a BBQ restaurant and he’s a TikTok star but he’s classically trained and everyone on the production team thinks he’ll be the dark horse of the season.

Max has zero formal training. He always knew he was going to work in food so he moves to New York illegally at 17 and he washes dishes until he gets a chance and a work visa and now he’s a sous chef. The producers don’t know if he’ll be a nightmare or their best cast. He’s funny and real and he’s got a mouth on him.

Max…is not doing well in the beginning. He thinks some of the challenges are “very stupid” and he tells Tom at judge’s table that maybe his palate is bad and no one in the house likes him so the first two team challenge’s end up with him on the bottom - not because of his food, but because no one is working together.

And then he gets paired with Danny.

Danny makes a dumb joke to the girl he’s been flirting with this whole time about getting paired with Max and Max hears it and then that night in the house while they’re making the menu, Max just says no to everything Danny says. No, we can’t do your food. No, we can’t serve it in bowls. No, we can’t. No, we can’t. And Danny is like…hm, okay. Tell me how you would do it?

And Max does and Danny is like…um, yes? It’s fucking mad but it’s genius if we can pull it off and then Max just….smiles. He smiles and Danny is F U C K E D.

Max and Danny win and Danny hugs Max and the two of them sneak out to the same place they were menu planning and Max thanks Danny. Like, no one here likes me and it’s because I have to win and he spills this whole business with his dad kicking him out because he’s gay and how he slept in someone’s closet for two years and Danny hugs him again and tells Max he thinks he could definitely win.

Everyone expects Danny to…leave Max alone after that but the two of them now live in each other’s pockets and Daniel is defending max now??? And in a group challenge their group is in the bottom and Danny thinks Max is going to go home because their other two team members are trying to say it was Max’s fault and Danny defends him with a smile on his face and a joke but he’s brutal and that’s when people realize that Danny’s allegiance is to Max and Max alone.

He’s still well liked but everyone gives them a wide berth. Which of course leads the two of them to get closer and it looks like the two of them are going to go all the way.

Until…

Daniel goes home when there are six of them left. He makes a simple mistake. The cook of his fish is over by a couple of seconds and Max kicks a door after Daniel hugs him tight and says, “it’s gotta be you, Maxy.”

Max doesn’t speak to anyone all night and they all talk the next morning before he’s up and they decide that they’ll be gentle with him today. They don’t say it…but they’re pretty sure there was something between the two of them.

Max wins that challenge and when Tom tells him that they’ve seen a lot of growth in him, Max says that it was Daniel. That Daniel made him better and Tom looks so shocked that Padma has to remind everyone they’re judging.

Max makes it to the finale and they don’t get to pick their team but production doesn’t have a choice, they give Daniel to Max and when he walks into the kitchen, Max barely keeps his tears in.

Max says with finality, “we will win” and Daniel says “you will win” and Max looks at him sideways and says very slowly “I will win.”

And he does, of course. He has a breakdown because his second course has a problem but Danny saves it and Max only has the owner of the restaurant he works out there for support but after they say his name, he’s only looking at Danny.

“This is Daniel,” Max says as he introduces him to Christian. “He is my boyfriend.”

And they’re still filming and Danny knows it’s going to make the episode because how could it not, so he slips his hand around Max’s waist and holds his hand out for Christian to shake and says, “I hate to take him from you, but it sounds like we’ve got to open up a restaurant for Maxy here.” And then he kisses his temple and Max blushes and Tom stands there like 🧍

Danny is still a TikTok star, but he gets his own travel show.

Max occasionally pops into his TikToks and the show but mostly he spends time opening up restaurants and running them and they’re happy and Max cooks and he has Danny and Danny eventually does an all-stars season and he wins and Max is interviewed while they’re cooking and he says “of course he will win, we have been training for this for months. He is very sick of me but that is okay. I have agreed to marry him if he wins so I would think he would be more motivated than anyone else.”

They get married and Tom officiates and Max complains because Danny wouldn’t let him cook the food and they’re happy forever and ever.

Got a very inspired ask inquiring about the villains in my Better Call Saul french AU so here's Gus aka famous chef Gustavo Faure and his main waiter Léo haha. More info under the cut as always...

So at first I thought about making Gus a fast-food owner like his canon counterpart, but it just doesn't fit really well if you wanna frenchify it all with nuance. We have fast-foods ofc and we do enjoy fried chicken lol, but Los Pollos Hermanos has this very distinct "patriotic" feeling that wouldn't translate as well in France, as fast-foods are american in conception. I thought about making Gus the owner of some cheaper chain like Courtepaille lmao, but it feels too memey and doesn't have the prestige that his character has canonically. Gus assimilates perfectly into american society with his brand, and caters to the people locally, so I thought it would be fair for him to do the same in France. And if you wanna cater to lovers of chic, gastronomy and prestige, what's better than being the chef of some fancy restaurant, right? It felt cliché af and looses the "close to the people" part but it honestly fits his character well, imo...

He would be extremely respected locally but still friendly and approachable due to him crafting some kind of tragic backstory for himself and his restaurant. Basically he would play the "Chilean refugee that climbed to the top of foreign cuisine" card and everyone would buy it. French people love to eat and are fond of mixing their culture's meals with more international food, so yes: I think he would serve a fusion of french/Chilean food!

He'd also be an entrepreneur as famous french chefs often have side businesses like bakeries or published books, which I think respects his canon personality pretty well. Fancy french chefs also like to hang out outside their kitchen to greet their guests and I can totally imagine Gus do that. He'd still be able to conceal his shady side nicely. He's canonically seen to like fine wine, good products, and cooks Paila Marina for Walt, so congrats to Gus for already being french in conception and not making this idea feel like a stretch lol.

I have no idea about his exact role concerning drug traffic in Europe, as I said I'm pretty ignorant about that… But he'd use his business and image to form connections and launder his money. His backstory with Max stays the same in the AU aka Max was his business """"partner""" who died killed by the Salamancas.

I don't think changing his first name was necessary, but his last name sounding american I thought I would just frenchify it a bit lol. I don't know what the name of his restaurant would be, but definitely something short, spanish, and aesthetic/poetic. Maybe a reference to Max to allude to the Hermanos part.

Bonus : I know they don't canonically meet, but in my AU I think Chuck, as a rich lawyer, would eat at Gustavo's often. They'd be acquainted :) And maybe Jérôme aka Jimmy meets him thru his brother and later discovers Gus' shady side, when the events of BrBa start.

So I came up with a new AU idea at work today (always the last convenient place to get struck by inspiration - but there you go): Restaurant AU. 

Mav and Ice are chefs, Goose (who lives) and Slider are waiters. 

Mav likes to experiment and come up with new dishes on the fly. Doesn’t like sticking to a set menu, leans into the whole ‘I’m serving an experience, not a recipe’ style of cooking. 

Ice sticks strictly to the recipes. His idea of mastery is nailing a dish, no flaws, no mistakes - just perfection. 

Naturally their philosophies crash. 

Ice feels that Mav will run customers out the door if they consistently order a dish and get some different spin on it (or, something barely resembling it) each time. On the other hand. Mav feels that Ice’s way will see them stagnating and getting frozen in time. 

“Do you want to turn into the place pensioners go because ‘it’s the same dinner I ordered 10, 20, 30 years ago!’. 

Unfortunately neither of them can bring themselves to just straight up quit because even if they clash constantly, no other chef has pushed either of them harder to improve than they have each other. (And also, the thought of not getting to compete/see/spend time with each other just doesn’t feel right in the slightest). 

I can’t decide whether they’re both running a kitchen of a struggling restaurant, trying to push it to greater heights - or they’ve both been recruited to Viper’s high-end restaurant and have just found themselves thrown together. 

Either way, the whole idea has been bouncing about my head all day and I wanted to get it out haha

You see, I would like to request a moodboard (or mby two if you like it) for a fic that's still entirely in my head&has been running circles in there for a while now (bc I've had writer's block for almost six years at this point but sometimes get ideas that won't leave me alone)...

'god, i finally understand now why you and lilith got so insane when you first opened.'

it's years later, but you can easily remember the total fear coursing through you when you had soft opened, mostly because everyone attending was either your found family or a world renowned chef, critic, or food writer. but, 'this is different,' you tell ava, gently. 'you already know you're going to knock it out of the park.'

'well, when you opened, you knew what it took to run a three star michellin restaurant already from your time at superion's.'

you smile gently and squeeze his hand. 'well, so do you.'

he rolls his eyes. 'me hornily watching you and lilith argue your way into your own restaurant's stars doesn't count.'

'i know you've paid attention.'

'you both have james beard awards.'

'ava.' you scoot your chair closer to hers in the middle of her gorgeous wine bar, one that soft opens in about two hours. 'you don't care about all those awards, and we both know it.'

she grumbles.

you kiss the top of her hand. 'you told me when you first brought up the idea that you wanted a space that was airy, bright, for people who know wine as well as people who love wine.' you gesture to the space around you, the bright blue and rust color of the tiles behind the bar, the whitewashed walls, the plants everywhere, the huge glass wine cellar in the center. 'this is beautiful and thoughtful and fun, my love. just like you.'

it takes a beat to sink in, but then ava's face brightens considerably. 'yeah?'

'i am so excited for everyone to see all the work you've put in, and to love it.'

'well, they'll love the food at least.'

you roll your eyes. 'camila is brilliant, it's true. i'm still upset that you stole her from me.'

'you encouraged her to take the executive chef position here.'

'well, yes, it was quite the opportunity for her.'

ava laughs, finally, and straightens the lapels on your suit, even though your certain they're perfect. they run a hand over your hair, then lean forward and kiss you. 'you're sure people will like it?'

'you're incredible.' you run your thumb over the steadfast ring on her finger, take your time to look around the space once more, intentional, and you know ava will notice; you know they'll understand. 'this is incredible. your ideas, your work, your taste — it deserves a home.' unspoken, because it sits too heavy on too light a day: you deserve a home.

but ava understands, like she has for the past fifteen years: you have made a home together. you have made a home together everywhere you have ever been. 'well,' he says, hops down from the high chair and grabs a bottle of champagne from the fridge, then gets down two glasses. you wait, a little mesmerized as always, as ava pops the bottle skillfully. 'the 1993 dom p3.'

ava hands you a perfect pour a few moments later. 'you've been keeping this from me.'

she laughs again, her shoulders relaxing. 'i've been saving it for a special occasion.'

you lift your glass. 'to this brilliant wine bar,' you say, 'and to you.'

you clink glasses and the bubbles are light on your tongue.

“Mm, the guts’re all yours, chef,” Georgia said as she slid over the bowl, a grimace on her lips and the last remaining strings of pumpkin insides dangling from her fingers. “Hated that.”

“I appreciate your sacrifice,” Bob chuckled as he kissed her cheek.

She wiped her hands on a towel. “Mm, you better.”

“So will you, once I get these guys toasted and seasoned.”

Bob took the bowl of guts over to the sink and began to pick out the seeds. Extracting them from the stringy insides and washing them off one by one. Once cleaned to his liking, he laid each of them out gently on a paper towel to dry. Georgia smiled as she watched him for a moment. Even after all this time, she could still watch him cook anything and be absolutely enthralled. Especially with the sleeves of his button up rolled up like that and his apron tied around his waist. 

“What’re ya gonna carve?” he asked, looking over his shoulder at her with a grin.

“Um —” Georgia turned back to the hollowed out pumpkin, staring up at her blank faced. “I don’t know. My family always painted pumpkins at Halloween.”

“Really? Why?”

“Less messy, more fun — less dangerous,” she said, picking up the paring knife she would use to carve warily.

Bob chuckled. “Guess that makes sense. You want help?”

He looked ready to stop everything to come back over and help her carve the pumpkin. Eyebrows raised and lips pursed, fingers third knuckle deep in pumpkin guts. Georgia shook her head with a smile.

“No, I got it. I wanna try your…The uh…”

“Sweet curry pepitas,” he filled in for her.

“Yeah, those — as soon as possible,” she said.

“Yes, ma’am.”

So they carved and cleaned pumpkin seeds quietly. A record playing from the other room and glasses of wine poured once Bob had seasoned the pepitas and put them in the oven to toast. He hummed quietly in her ear as he wrapped his arms around Georgia’s waist. Head rested comfortably on her shoulder as he watched her carve. She knew it was a little messy, but she was trying her best while also attempting to not cut herself. Bob just laughed lightly as she poked out the mouth, wide smiling and goofy — matched with a small pair of round eyes.

“He’s a very happy jack-o-lantern,” he chuckled, giving her waist a squeeze.

Their little country cottage filled with the smells of curry spices and brown sugar as they put in the electric tea candle and set the pumpkin up in the window. Even though they would be the only ones who would see it.

Just a small reminder of the perfect October night, and a bit of home.

My dream team (volleyball) with the '86 class:

- setter(s): Iceman and Sundown. Ice starts as hitter but he got bored too soon. Every coach on the east and west coast always says that him and Sundown are almost as good as Zaystev.

- middle blocker(s): Slider, Goose and Merlin. They have a complete different way to play, reason way Viper can't take one of them out of the team. They all are good players and needed in different moments on the match.

-attacker: Wolfman and Hollywood. Jester finds them bored as hell in a basketball court and takes them to meet the team. The first time Wolf dunk the ball Viper almost cries because we found him. He cries when it's Hollywood turn. There's a video somewhere.

-wing/hitter spiker: Chipper and Cougar. Chipper finds his way in that particular role after he tried them all but nothing stucked, expected this one and Cougar likes to say he was born to be the best wing on this god green earth.

-libero: Maverick. Everybody looks once at him, for like 0.1 second, and yep, that's your role bye.

- coaching: that two poor souls of Viper and Jester.

Now that I think about it, you know what would be hilarious? If Touya and Shoto had actually broken free and gone to culinary school. It’s everything that Endeavor hates, serving other people, using your quirk for things other than attaining strength, and even if they turned out to be Master Chefs, it’s not something he could live vicariously through.

i think aus in general are just. really neat. i think my favorites are the ones that are super self indulgent - like, specifically AUs for other media that i've literally never heard of. i think they are so cool and i love reading them

i really like seeing what people do with AUs when it's clear that they really care about the setting or plot or context that they've chosen, it's like. Wow !!

also. i think road trip aus are neat.

answer to the first one: it is what the tin says. i'm a fucking sucker for cowboys, and all cowboys are gay, and i am so absolutely in love with them. hence, cowboy steddie au. i'm gonna make it happen. it won't be like... a western au, like old wild west days, but just legitimate cowboys? like i was thinking steve's the owner of a ranch (pass down through his dad from his grandpa from his great grandpa, etc) and eddie - he's either gonna be a helper on said farm, or maybe like an equestrian who comes to use the farm space to practice or something. haven't quite decided on that yet

as for the x-men au... again, as the tin says!

i have yet to pick any powers for them, i'm getting around to it, but basically. yeah. everyone's a mutant, sans a few of them probably, and i haven't decided yet on which route i want to take: either a legitimate type "crossover" where rhey go to xavier's school for the gifted, OR if they're all part of experiments at hawkins lab like el - only, y'know, actual mutant powers and not just kids with psychic powers and stuff. both are pretty viable but i'm definitely leaning more towards the crossover aspect. especially because i'm biased and love marvel so damn much.
