On this day, January 13, 2004: British photography student Tom Hurndall dies after being shot by an Israeli sniper in Gaza nine months earlier. Hurndall was trying to save Palestinian children from Israeli gunfire when he was shot in the head and left in a coma.
"What do I want from this life? I want to be proud of myself. When I die, I want to smile because of the things I have done, not cry for the things I haven't done. I will die with images of earthly heavens in my eyes" – Tom Hurndall

have you ever heard about the story of rachel corrie and tom hurndall? the things the zionists did to them is heartbreaking :'(
yes! for those who don’t know: Rachel Corrie (1979-2003) was an American peace activist who, in 2003, was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian family’s home. Rachel was killed when Israeli soldiers crushed her with a bulldozer out of spite. they threatened her family in America for years. back then, Israelis made fun of her death by making pancakes with her face on it. and they continue to mock her to this day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she’s a hero in Palestine and they named a street after her.

Tom Hurndall (1981-2004) was a British photographer and peace activist who was trying to cover the events in Palestine. Tom was assassinated by an Israeli sniper in Gaza on April 11, 2003, while he was trying to rescue two Palestinian children from gunfire. He was left in a coma and died 9 months later on January 13, 2004.

Tom Hurndall, a 22 year old British photography student was shot by Israeli soilders in 2003.
While volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement in Gaza.
He was helping some Palestinian kids get to safety when an Israeli sniper began shooting at them.
Tom tried to save them.
He was shot in the head while rescuing the second child. Falling into a coma and dying 9 months later.
Tom's mother, Jocelyn said:
From the moment that Tom was shot, we said it wasn't about the soldier, who is a small part of the machinery, but about the responsibility of the Israeli army and its lack of accountability over civilian killings.
To say that the soldier has reformed is to miss the point – the British government needs to hold Israel accountable for its actions."
And for anyone who says oh but the sniper got jailed for it.
He did, for manslaughter and was released early.
That is not justice.
This didn't start on the 7th October.
It didn't start in 2003.
It started in 1948 and it is ongoing.

Repost from @ajplus
21 years ago, an Israeli sniper shot a British university student in the head as he tried to protect a group of children in Gaza. Two years later, the soldier who shot him said that he was acting under orders that allowed him to shoot unarmed civilians.
This is the story of Tom Hurndall, an aspiring young photojournalist who traveled the world and fought for justice during his short life.
Tom arrived in Gaza to volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement shortly after Israeli forces killed American activist Rachel Corrie in 2003. Rachel was a volunteer with the same organization.

Tom was murdered not long after Rachel Corrie. People need to constantly be reminded that this mass murder and blind bloodlust by Israel did not start on Oct 7 2023 but has been going on unchecked for literal decades...generations. Even the sniper who murdered Tom said that it was common practice (even back then in 2003) for IOF soldiers to shoot civilians. Orange volunteer vests, blue press vests, white flags - none of it means anything to the IOF. If anything, it puts a target on the backs of the wearer/bearer.

Doctor Who: The Five Doctors
I rewatched this story on 25 April 2023. It's not quite forty years after I first saw a version of it in Australia during an amazing thunder storm that put static through our video recording of it. I recall the nervousness of whether or not we’d lose the picture if the electricity cut out. Anyway, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen this adventure in a few different forms. The one I watched for this was the 1999 DVD special edition… Lawks, that's 24 years old now... Anyway, 20 years of a TV show! Not many can claim such a record…
We begin with a short pre-credit grainy monochrome clip of William Hartnell from when he farewelled the first travelling companion to leave the TARDIS. That was the first real time I ever saw him as Dr Who.
We then join Turlough sketching outside. In the TARDIS, we see a brand new console and Tegan in a new outfit. The Doctor and Tegan join Turlough outside, and the Doctor suffers a twinge of cosmic angst. Meanwhile, the Doctor (Richard Hurndall) is snatched up by a weird thing; he later pairs up with Susan. Then we go to UNIT HQ where the Brigadier (retired) is looking forward to a reunion… he should be careful about what he wishes for! The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) arrives and they are both snatched up by the weird thing. The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) is driving Bessie, when he’s snatched up by the weird thing. Sarah Jane Smith pays attention to K9 issuing a warning, but ignores him when he mentions the Doctor, and the weird thing snatches her. The Doctor (Tom Baker) and Romana are punting on the Cam (a scene from Shada). The weird thing fails to snatch them.
And then we turn up on Gallifrey, looking once more like it has for each time since The Deadly Assassin. This time, the Master is invited to rescue the Doctor who has been trapped in Gallifrey’s death zone to play the game of Rassilon. It’s a rather fun framing device for an adventure bringing in so many old friends and foes together, plus a few new foes. Not all of it makes sense — and there are hilarious trips and falls — but that’s fine. So many quotable quotes! Yes, I love this story.

It might not be the best episode of Doctor who of all time.
This was the first episode I watched and made me fall in love with the wonderful crazy show that we love.
I had it on VHS and wore the tape out after rewatching it so many times. I still feel it has one of the coolest action sequences in Doctor who with the Raston Warrior robot. So well directed and put together so well
I know that it has its faults but I loved watching the five doctors

Tom Hurndall Hector Pieterson
January 13, 2004 June 16, 1976
Gaza Strip, Palestine Soweto, South Africa
I just saw the picture of Tom, and immediately, the picture of Hector came to my mind because of the striking resemblance.
Tom was killed by Israeli forces when he ran to protect two Palestinian children. He was shot in the head by an IDF soldier.
Hector was killed by the South African Police under the Apartheid system while he, along with 20 000± pupils, protested 'the language of the oppressor' (Afrikaans). Hector was one of an estimated 176 pupils killed during the Soweto uprising.
Remember them. Forever.

Plus:
"Not again": Eyewitness Joe Smith writes about the shooting of Tom Hurndall, by Joe Smith, The «Electronic Intifada», April 12, 2003
«His name was Thomas Hurndall and he was from London. When he arrived, we already had an English guy named Tom so he chose the nickname “Tab”, and that is how I knew him. Tab was incredibly passionate about protecting people when and where they needed it most. We were in Yibna, a Rafah refugee camp right on the Egyptian border, because he was aware of the constant Israeli gunfire to which this neighbourhood is victim every day. He'd learned about the two brothers who'd been shot the previous morning, and was dedicated to maintaining a presence there. He said that he'd gotten extremely angry and determined after listening to gunfire while lying in his bed at the doctor's house Rachel died protecting. He wanted to be in the most dangerous areas, not out of some martyr complex to die but simply because he knew that that is where internationals are most needed.»

I bet my ass that when Palestine finally is free, White people are going to point at Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall, Aaron Bushnell, the White British and American-Canadian aid workers who died in the Israeli air strike and go, "see? We weren't all that bad, there were good White people who supported Palestine!!"
