Grab a Bite at the Vampire Cafe in Tokyo

Despite being in Tokyo for New Year’s, there was one activity I wanted to do that really lent itself more towards the Halloween season: going to the Vampire Cafe in Tokyo. I think I originally heard about it in one of the group chats I was in when I first got to Japan. Though it was just briefly mentioned, I knew the minute I saw it that I wanted to go. And it was definitely worth it.

The Vampire Cafe in Tokyo is on the 7th floor of a building that’s about a 15-minute walk from Tokyo Station, though there are other stations that will put you even closer. From the moment you step out of the elevator, you step into the world of vampires with dim lighting and hosts dressed in gothic vampire-esc costumes. Curtains hang along the black and red walls that are adorned with all manner of creepy decorations, including some smashed mirrors, presumably done by a particularly frustrated vampire. There were also some very realistic fake candles at the table, which I have to assume is because people weren’t careful enough around real candles since their website still warns about the flames. 

Even the food menu is shaped like an old tome and the drink menu looks like a coffin.

The food was pretty good, though it did take a while to come out. It’s nothing spectacular, but you’re there more for the atmosphere than anything. We shared an appetizer plate of cheeses and an assorted dessert platter, and each got a meal and some drinks. There’s everything from salads to spaghetti to steaks and even a personal pizza.

While you wait, I would highly recommend using either Google translate or someone who knows some Japanese to actually translate the menu items. Though they have English underneath, it only describes the type of food and not the fun names they gave things, like “Tributes from the people” (cheese plate) and “The tragedy of judgment upon the rebels, punished to burn at the stake” (a whole roast chicken). Figuring out the translations for what everyone ordered while we waited was super fun! The drinks also had fun names and some of them even glowed (there’s a little light inside that turns on when it’s under liquid). I got a “Dracula” and a “Transylvania,” of which only the “Dracula” glowed. They’re not super heavy on the alcohol, but they do look cool.

While it is certainly a fun experience, the Vampire Cafe was a little on the pricey side. I think each of us ended up paying about 5,000 yen (or a little less than $50), though we did get the appetizers and desserts. On average, for one drink and one meal, you’re probably looking at around 3,000 yen, plus a couple hundred yen for the table charge. However, if it’s something you think you'd be interested in, it’s definitely worth saving up some money for a visit. I would recommend reserving your space online at least a couple of days beforehand. There were plenty of spots when I reserved our space a few days out, but when I checked again the day before, there were no spaces left. So, it definitely pays to plan ahead.

Everything in the Vampire Cafe in Tokyo is set up to transport you into the world of vampires. From the dark lighting and the creepy decorations to the creatively-named foods and cool drinks, it’s a spooky experience to (un)die for. If you’re intrigued by the cafe’s theme and not intimidated by the prices, go grab a drink and hope the only type of bite you get while there is a bite to eat.

Alejandro purchases a camera for Amy, and their bond strengthens. The two watch confessionals on a dingy phone Alejandro acquired. Speaking of Alejandro, guess who has a crush on him this time? It's Lightning! The Sea Tails (Alejandro, Raj, Wayne, Ripper) blow up stuffed animals on the beach using fireworks. Alejandro, however, chose to blow up a Drama Machine Funko Pop that Scott gifted him. He has to leave early. Raj is unwell during the entire experience due to blood loss. Scott has an encounter with Scary Girl on Takeshita street! What is she doing here?! She's not in the game! "That big, scary shark...Do you still think about him sometimes? Aren't you afraid...he'll find you again?" She hands him a stuffed rabbit, which has an extra eye and different body parts of varying colors, seemingly sewn on after the others were torn off. "Now that I have her off my back, I can do some shopping! I'm just so excited! Thank you, Scott. Keep an eye out for any...toothy friends you may find!" After Amy talks about her past with Sammy to Raj, he doesn't wish to talk to her anymore. "I can't be your friend right now. I'm sorry." After acting as the ship's therapist for so long, Raj has a breakdown. Luckily, Wayne is there.

We've had a great first round, with a lot of strong contestants already being knocked out! This makes the second round even more exciting!

Round 2 will be posted between Monday, February 5th and Thursday, February 8th. It will be split between 4 sets, each set being posted on a different day. There will be a total of 64 participants (16 participants in each individual set) divided in 32 polls (8 polls in each individual set). By the end of Round 2, 32 participants will make it to Round 3 while the rest will be sent to the Shadow Realm where their souls will be tormented for eternity. All polls will be queued between 12 PM EST and 1 PM EST of the day it has been assigned. Each poll will last a week.

Savior's Book Cafe Story In Another World - Isekai (of a 30yo, not a teen for once), romance -- I adore this lil series. It's a cozy lil hug in a book

Uzumaki by Junji Ito - Horror - classic, love his art style and story telling, I don't find horror manga or anime scary though so I read it more like comedy tbh

I Want To Eat Your Pancreas - Tragedy(?), Romance(?), set in high school - I went into this expecting and knowing nothing and I enjoyed it a lot

My next reads are gonna be the series I just bought, so Demon Slayer, Ouran Host Club (again, childhood fave), Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul Re, & Choujin X.

After that, the next batch'll likely be: Bofuri, Arifureta, & Overlord (all isekai - or in Bofuri's case video game life). Which I can recommend watching in the anime forms as well.

But yeah those are pretty much all the series I like that I can name off the top of my hear rn. There are definitely quite a bunch I'm forgetting, but I cannot be bothered because this lil answer has already gone on for a long time and been interrupted 4+ times by my Boss' after hours inquiries into his own goddamn schedule I'm going to beat this man with a sandal

Arashi Eizen 嵐 永善 "Storm"

Born to a Korean family that relocated to Japan, Arashi Eizen (better known as Storm) was always a bit of an outcast. Despite being born there, his name being Japanese, and it being his first language, people saw him as an outsider. Storm got plenty comfortable with being alone, enjoying his own company. He found company in video games, manga, and novels.

His life felt like it turned into a novel when one night, he was walking home from a manga cafe on his own and was attacked. Storm woke up at home, with no memory of what happened. He had a terrible wound on his neck and he deemed himself lucky to be alive. He didn't know how he ended up home or why he didn't go to the hospital.

A few days had passed, and Storm noticed changes in himself. He disliked the sun more than usual, growing weaker in its presence. He had a craving that couldn't be satisfied by any food he tried to eat. Nearly a week after the attack, he was visited by a stranger.

The stranger informed Storm that both of them were vampires; that Storm had been attacked by a rogue one and bitten. It was the man in front of him that saved him and brought him back to his house. The vampire explained the difference between fact and mythology and instructed him on how to live his life under the radar. The hardest thing was blood. He was taught how to sneak in and out of hospitals to get blood packs, and surviving on extra-rare steaks.

Things only took a turn for the worse when Storm was a part of a meteor that hit Tokyo, sending him to a place called the Borderlands. He picked up the lay of the land, becoming a diamonds specialist thanks to all of his reading, with Spades a close second - due to his vampire nature.

Personality.

Storm is private and standoff-ish, thanks to living as an outcast. It only grew worse when he became a vampire, never wanting to hurt anyone. When someone gets to know him, he's cheeky, funny, and charismatic. He's wildly intelligent since he spent most of his time with a book in his hands or playing video games.

When you're procrastinating on starters and replies because you have too many, are intent on doing them in a specific order, and then have writers block on the one you're supposed to be working on and watch Tokyo vlogs about cafes instead
