so one of my other problems with babyjack is that the fandom just seems to have this sort of collective cognitive dissonance about it, in almost any context or discussion. like this post as probably my only standing example (bc it’s the only one to have gotten traction), there are all these tags about how babyjack leads to bad dean criticism, or how it’s nice in aus but they want canon complex jack, and like I’m not entirely disagreeing with that, but it is so fucking frustrating that people are still ignoring the actual problem with it and either only focusing on the most surface level issues that personally affect them or their corner of the fandom, or making up some point of acceptability for it that frankly isn’t theirs to make.
it’s the autistic experience of our struggles never being seen or cared about until they become other people’s inconveniences, and our voices being used to say something else entirely. when the main takeaway of that post is how the fandom’s treatment of jack being in a way he’s explicitly shown to hate being treated directly mirrors autistic people’s struggle for autonomy in the real world, I really do not need you to make it about how it makes your golden website boy dean look like a big meanie pants, okay? that’s definitely a part of it, but it’s not at all what we are talking about, and it 100% should not be the only reason you care.
and especially when the other takeaway is how this is just a smaller scale issue that comes from autistic infantilization, the absolute last take I want to hear is that you find that infantilization acceptable as long it’s an AU or something else separated from canon. believe me, I’m beyond glad more people actually prefer canon complex jack—like, I don’t think you guys understand that that is legitimately a rarity to find here— but the thing about babyjack is that the concept itself is inherently ableist, and directly relies on his complexities (and the representation he means for us) being removed and erased so that he can even exist in the context of those AU’s. It feels very… ‘have your cake and eat it too’ to me.
I’m trying not to sound angry or accusatory, but I am also tired of having to force civility on a problem that’s pretty much just an open secret thar everyone collectively ignores and beats bushes around solely because they prioritize #domesticdestiel over all. I mean, do you guys even hear yourselves sometimes? Like half of it just boils down to “Autistic infantilization is always bad, except for this one context where it makes my ship look domestic and redeems my blorbo,” and it’s getting really fucking annoying to have to constantly explain something that is not only painfully easy to understand, but is understood and actively ignored, and still play nice so that somebody out there might listen.
So many people will say they like canon Jack and want more of him from the fandom, and I more than agree, but motherfucker you have a blog! You have the tools! Be the change you want to see! He doesn’t have to be your fav or your blog thesis blorbo, but if you want it, you are literally fully equipped to make it! Write some meta, draw some fanart, whatever. Better yet, you could even stop engaging with and perpetuating content that actively pushes down on what you want and, I must reiterate, is actively harmful and ableist. If you want domestic silliness go right ahead, but you don’t need to resort to ableism to do it.
I don’t think I’m asking too much or asking rudely, and frankly I don’t even think I owe niceties to anyone when it’s a problem that has been openly ignored for 6 years and holds plenty of bearing in the real world concerning my identity and community and shit we face constantly. Outside of our screens, we are constantly fighting for autonomy and recognition and representation, and even to be seen as people. Online spaces, especially fandom spaces, are a huge source of escapism and support that we wouldn’t get otherwise. So for the love of god, please stop bringing that fight here.

Day 9: The End
Title: Bedtime Stories
"... the end."
"Another! Another!" Jack exclaims before Dean even closes the storybook.
Faking a yawn, Dean stretches as he looks at the fully stocked bookshelf, "Jack, don't you wanna go to sleep instead? It's almost ten now."
"I'm not tired!"
"How are you still awake? When I was five, I was constantly tired at this time."
Throwing off his Batman blanket, Jack hops off his bed to search for another book. Pulling a random one out, he smiles widely as he crawls back in bed, giving Dean the book. Looking at the cover, Dean sighs as he settles in- knowing it’s going to be a long night.
“Rapunzel. Okay, let’s start this.”
Putting his arm around Jack, his son rests his head on his soft belly. Kissing the top of his head, he reminds him of the time again, “Alright, Jack, it’s a little after ten. After this one, it’s bedtime. Got it?”
Nodding, Jack opens the book for Dean to start.
“Once upon a time there was a girl trapped in the tallest castle-”
“How do they know it was the tallest?”
“Umm, I don’t know it doesn’t say. So she was trapped in the tallest castle-”
“Why?”
“Because she got trapped.”
“How?”
“Let me read it to find out.”
Flipping through the pages in a hurry, Dean pretends to search for an answer, “We don’t know; it never explains it. Okay. Once upon a time there was a girl trapped in the tallest castle with long hair-”
“She never got it cut?”
“No. She’s like Uncle Sammy. The more people told her to get it cut, she refused. Okay? No more questions. Alright, once upon a time-”
“I want water.”
“Go get some water; I’ll be right here.”
As Jack goes to get a glass of water, Dean lets out a frustrated groan, “I just wanna sleep.”
When Jack comes back sipping his cup, Dean is in the middle of closing the book, “The end.”
“What?”
“What? The story is over.”
“You didn’t stop when I left?”
“You never said I had to. But uh, yeah, story’s over; now it’s bedtime.”
“Nooooo. One more so I can actually hear it.”
“Fine. I’m picking though.”
Getting up, he picks the thinnest book, “Here we go; Piglet’s Windy Day.”
“Noooo come on, that one’s too small.”
“You mean too short, son. Plus, it’s my choice and I choose this one.”
Pouting his lips, he gives Dean sad puppy dog eyes. Dean gives in to that way too easy and way too much. Today is no exception either.
“Fine,” Grabbing another book, he positions themselves the same way they were when they began.
“The Velveteen Rabbit. You know, this one is your Papa’s favorite. His grandmother used to read it to him every time. There once was a rabbit…”
Getting curious about what is taking Dean so long to come back to bed, Cas goes to the kitchen. Not finding Dean in the kitchen, living room, or the restroom, he makes his way to Jack’s room. When he hears Jack’s whispering voice, he knows Dean is in there. Slowly poking his head in, he smiles as he appears in the doorway, looking down at the soft sight before him. Jack is finishing The Velveteen Rabbit to a sleeping Dean. Noticing Cas in the doorway, Jack smiles as he silently shushes him with a tiny finger to his mouth and pointing to Dean. Entering all the way, Cas shakes his head at the fondness.
“Daddy needs to sleep.”
“He is sleeping.”
“Daddy needs to sleep in his own bed with Papa.”
Softly shaking him awake, Dean wakes up, “Hmph?”
“Dean. You fell asleep again in Jack’s room. Jack, I told you just one story. How many did you boys read this time?”
“Three,” Dean says through his loud yawn.
“Jack?”
“Sorry, daddy.”
“Go to sleep.”
“Okay.”
When Dean gets off the bed, Jack snuggles himself under the covers as his two fathers kiss him goodnight. As soon as they close the door, Dean sighs, “How come he only says ‘okay’ with you and not with me?”
“Because he knows when I say I’m reading one book, it means one book. You’re too wrapped around his little finger.”
Spanking his butt on the way back to his room, Dean tells him, “I’m the fun one though so either way, I win.”
“Go to sleep, Dean.”
“Make me.”
“Please go the fuck to sleep.”
Laughing, he crawls into bed and is out as soon as his head hits his pillow.

Happy Witchcore Samantha Wednesday!
This week's moodboard is the third in the Color/Flower Character Association series. This week's themes are Samantha, the color red, bleeding heart flowers, poppies suggested by @pastornovak and @the-gray-ghosty, and gladiolis and red orchids suggested by @the-gray-ghosty. I hope you like it! It is VERY IMPORTANT that everyone should try to submit at least a couple of ideas so I can continue to provide weekly content. Currently, @pastornovak and I are asking people to send in colors and flowers they associate with Samantha and Cas, and we will make a miniseries out of that. Next week's theme will be Cas with the color white.
*As with the rest of my moodboards, none of these pictures are my own, and I claim no credit for any art or design used, only for the concept created*

Whumptober Day the First
Skipped prompt #1, reposting this because I wasn't satisfied with the last draft.
Prompt #2: “I’ll call out your name, but you won’t call back.”
Thermometer | Delirium | “They don’t care about you.”
Jack has a fever, and everything Michael said to him is coming back.
___
“Jack… Jack.”
Jack looks up, startled. Across the kitchen, Sam’s holding up two packages of deli meat. Various condiments, a bag of bread, and a ball of lettuce are spread out on the counter in front of him.
“Hm?” Jack shifts in his seat at the table. He feels odd, like his skin doesn’t fit over his bones right.
“I asked what you want on your sandwich.”
“Oh–”
“Ham ‘n’ cheese, please,” Dean says, coming through the doorway and plopping down at the table next to Jack.
“You can make your own sandwich, Dean.”
Dean jabs a thumb in Jack’s direction. “So can he.”
Sam sighs and ignores him. “What kind of meat, Jack?”
“Um, turkey?” Jack squints at the options. His vision is weird – he can see fine, but his brain isn’t processing the images.
Sam looks puzzled. “Ham or roast beef is what we’ve got. Dean only bought red meat at the store this time.” He glares at his brother.
“Oh, uh, I guess…” There’s too much going on. He’s trying to follow Sam and Dean’s casual bickering and understand what Sam wants from him at the same time. He remembers his glass of water, and takes a sip. It’s cool against his hot throat.
Sam’s waiting, eyebrows traveling further and further up his forehead.
The water is good. He takes another sip, but chokes this time. The harsh coughs scrape past his throat. Dean thumps him hard on the back.
“I think I’m… I’m not hungry,” he croaks. Dean, hand still resting between Jack’s shoulder blades, makes eye contact with Sam. Dean mouths something. Sam nods his head in Jack’s direction. Jack’s trying to figure out what’s going on when he feels Dean’s palm against his forehead, then the backs of his fingers on his cheek.
“Yep, he’s running a temperature.”
“No, I–” Oh. That would explain why his clothes were scratchy against his skin, and why he’d been feeling strangely chilly all morning. Had he been more lucid, he might have noticed how often he was shedding his sweatshirt only to put it back on minutes later, and how he needed to clear his throat before he spoke.
Sam sighs, setting the deli meat down. “I’ll go find a thermometer. Make your own sandwich, Dean.”
Sam heads off to hunt down a thermometer and some ibuprofen, and Dean gets to work on his sandwich, any concern for Jack obviously not getting in the way of his lunch. Jack watches from the table. At some point, his head sinks down onto folded arms and he lets his burning eyes slip closed.
__
“Jack, hey.” Sam’s hovering close, holding out a thermometer. “You have a fever, so we need to measure it by taking your temperature. Your fever’s why you’re feeling bad right now.”
“I know what a fever is,” Jack grumps.
Sam smiles, embarrassed. “Sorry. Just put this under your tongue for me, okay?” He presses the button and hands it over. Jack takes the offered thermometer and tucks it under his tongue, cringing at the way the slick plastic feels in his overheated mouth. All his nerve endings are buzzing, sensitive and prickly. He shudders and squirms.
“This sucks, I know.” Sam rubs his arm. The soft touch is painful against his aching skin and muscles, and Jack pulls away. Sam looks hurt, but then the thermometer beeps and he takes it back. Dean waits to hear, chewing a huge bite of sandwich. “102.2” Sam announces. “That’s a pretty decent fever.” He frowns down at Jack. “Why didn’t you tell us you weren’t feeling well?”
Jack shrugs. He honestly doesn’t know. Being human is weird and it’s hard to tell the difference between being tired, hungry, nauseous, or just overwhelmed. Sometimes his skin feels this way, prickly and tight and squirmy, when too much is happening and he needs a break. He takes a deep breath and pulls the collar of his sweatshirt over his mouth to cough. It’s deep and barky, and it hurts.
“That doesn’t sound like it feels very good,” Sam says sympathetically. Jack tries hard not to scowl. Sam is trying to be considerate and gentle, but it’s coming off as patronizing. His indignation fades as Sam puts a cool hand on his cheek. “What hurts?”
Jack clears his throat with a short cough. “My throat, head, and, um, skin?” He looks up, expecting Sam to laugh at him, but he only takes his hand away from his face and nods.
“I bet.”
___
He didn’t want the weird blue liquid cold medicine, and he tried but couldn’t swallow the pills. Dean got frustrated and took his sandwich to the library, but Sam did his best to reason with him.
“It feels weird,” Jack tried to explain. “The cold medicine tastes like a warm gooey popsicle. It’s wrong.” He could see that Sam didn’t get why he couldn’t just hold his nose and take it like a shot, but when Jack choked twice trying to swallow the pills instead, Sam gave up, and suggested they try again later.
__
Jack really wishes he could have managed the medicine. He’s curled up in bed, shivering. His phone tells him it’s 7:06pm. He can faintly hear Sam and Dean clamoring around in the kitchen, arguing about what to order for dinner.
He should have been able to take the medicine they tried to give him. He shudders, and curls into a tighter ball. His weighted blanket doesn’t touch the deep ache in his bones. They tried to help him. They tried very hard. He felt like he was making things unnecessarily complicated. Dean said so, sometimes, when he got frustrated with him.
Sam did his best to understand, but he still looked at it like it was developmental– that Jack was only technically a few years old, so of course the sensory stuff could get overwhelming and he needed to approach problems step-by-step. He threw around phrases like “overstimulation” and “demand avoidance” and did his best to be consistent. Even though it pissed Jack off that Sam treated him like a sensitive little kid, it was better than Dean, who just tried to make him push through it. He didn’t understand at all.
But… Why should he have to put up with it? Michael’s –Dean’s– voice rings in his head.
You’re a new burden that he was handed… a weak fragile thing…
The mattress dips. Jack cracks open his sore eyes to see Michael’s face hovering above him, lit by the hallway light coming through the open door. He tries to scream.
“Hey! Kid, it’s okay.” Dean grabs his arm. Jack whimpers in pain and Dean instantly releases his grip. He places the gentle, unobtrusive backs of his fingers against Jack’s cheek. “Geez, you’re burning up.” Through the dim light, Jack can see that he looks sad. “I know you didn’t do so well with the medicine earlier, but uh, this might help your fever for now.” Dean’s holding a damp washcloth in his hand. He starts to place it on Jack’s forehead, but stops. “I’m uh, going to put it on your forehead. It’s cold and wet – is… is that okay?” He’s awkward about it, and if Jack was feeling better he would have laughed at him.
“It’s okay,” Jack croaks softly. Dean lays the washcloth over his hot forehead and Jack sighs in relief.
“Good, huh?” Dean says, a smile in his voice. “Get some rest, there’s water on your nightstand.” He pats the mattress twice and gets to his feet. “Door open or closed?”
“Cracked, please,” Jack says. Dean leaves a crack large enough for a sliver of light to slip through. Jack listens to his heavy footfalls fade up the hall.
Dean kind of likes burdens, he thinks. It won’t make sense in the morning, when his fever breaks, but for now it’s a comforting thought.

thinking really hard about how alcal has always said portraying jack was easy because he relates to jack and pretty much just put in his own natural mannerisms into that portrayal. thinking really hard about how those natural mannerisms are constantly being touted as childlike and toddler behavior :/

Day 31: Trick or Treat
Four year old Jack goes off trick or treating alone; what could possibly go wrong?
19 notes · View notes
I like the concept of Toddler!Jack but only in how it relates to my other hcs about Jack (and which specific God/Deity/???? Jack becomes after 15x18).
Because lbr. Jack O' the Lantern, or "Halloween as a god" or whatever, is worshipped primarily by:
-Little kids going absolutely ape shit for Halloween
-Hot Topic Millenials who think he's a DILF or something
-Depressed Gay Zoomers On Tumblr. Hellsite
so if Jack is taking the form of a little kid for an episode or two to answer prayers from/pay visits kids who are praying to the spirit of Halloween, thats normal. its literally part of his rulership. it doesn't mean he IS A KID.
a god of Halloween is a god of young childhood and the joys that come with it, as sure as they are a god of autumn and aged experience, and whatever hot topic millenials have going on, and all of us sad queers online posting "ITS SPOOPY SEASON" in April.
...also anyone who started saying "oh my Jack" after 15x18, I've got some news for yall, if you're on tumblr been praying to that guy since LONG before that.
(this is NOT an endorsement of permanent toddler!Jack. he's 20-something. source: he said so)
