Music I see as another way of enjoying poetry--what else are lyrics, after all? Fiction is somewhere I can get lost and experience things I've never gotten the chance to see or meet people I'll never meet. Paintings, like photographs, capture a singular moment, but also infuse their meaning with a more personal flavor from the artist's own life. Statues are this concrete, physical expression of being that capture movement and emotion and strength and weakness and just the general essence of existence in a very solid, real way. plzzzz don't make me choose :)

I definitely feel that way about some books that just destroyed me emotionally--same goes for films--but I also feel like, given enough time, I'd want to return to them to get a fresh perspective. papyrus ⇢ just went and did this for the sake of experimentation. the song that came up was "king" by florence and the machine. I love all of florence's songs, but i love "king" for so many reasons. The guttural vocals really bring something out in the lyrics (which are incredible on their own). Also the production of the music video (directed by one of my favorite people of all time, Autumn de Wilde--same person who directed Emma 2020) just makes the aesthetic of the music so much more....GRAND

I'm just so done with smiling politely saying that fma03 and fmab are both great sorry i cant anymore. Just no

0. I really dont understand the glorification of manga over anime adaptations. Like people who are making the adaptation are not artists and creators themselves? What makes mangaka better than others and absolutely indisputable, seriously?

1. 'Oh no long introduction and fillers' that actually allowed for Hughes' character development before his death. Seriously if i mention his death among my homies I'll get lots of faces clearly going through some ptsd level flashbacks, it was that impactful. I still need to take a breather when im rewatching before diving into that ep.

2. Nina. Yet again got more time to grow on us and thus aquired higher trauma inducing levels.

3. Ishval massacre and aftermath are WAY MORE VISIBLE in fma03. First of all Ishvalans are depicted as human beings, and not some background, and we get lots more on their sufferings, raids on camps, racism towards them, etc etc etc

4. Scar. Oh boi how do i even go about this. So without raging much about that beefy obviously wrong dude who got 'sense' bitten into him and started working with the oppressing gov in fmab, we have a wronged and tormented survivor of a genocide, who was justified in his vengeance and rage, was depicted as an attractive person of color despite his antagonistic role and was seriously almost cheered on in his actions by the narrartive. His interactions with his people and his moral dilemmas made his character possibly the deepest and most thought out one in the series.

5. The Rockbell doctors being killed by their own government. That's a waaaaay more interesting and damning detail on our government affiliated protagonists than just dumping their murder on a delirious patient.

6. Homunculi had their own will and desires and a way more developed story arc that had a huge impact on protagonists' morals. Being created by the humans who were desperate to bring back their loved ones and both parties are getting tormented by it?? Characters strongly driven by their own goals and staggered by their relations to their creators vs some indifferent goons in fmab. Just compare Sloths and their impact on the stories and protags.

7. Final conflict being a fight with god and his intricate plans in fmab, versus final battle vs a selfish pretty much usual person who had thrown everyone under the bus in pursuit of immortality. Adds so much more desperation flavor. Suddenly your hero journey doesn't end in epic battle for the sake of the mankind, as you would like it to be. It's just to oppose one awful person with too much power and zero care about anyone else. That's raw and that's way more plausible and relatable in our mundane lives.

8. Overall darker tone and themes of the fma03.

9. MUSIC. I dont remember a single track from fmab, but i went really out of my way in my teenage years to find internet access and pirate fma soundtrack and cry listening to it

10. ART. Sorry but don't tell me fmabs flat colors are anything to 03's soft tones and lighting

So yeah sorry, but I'll take the dark and gritty tragedy over just another shounen with doubtful messages each and every time

Notes: I love his so much I wanted to cry while writing this. He is OOC and I’m not sorry, I truly believe big scary characters have the softest souls.

Warnings: OOC, not proofread at all, English is still not my native language (maybe one day idk I way told you gotta drink a potion for that), sweating as always, a droplet of sadness

⋆ Always giving the other the first bite of their food

You think Xanxus is bitching again. Maybe it’s all about an almost shoe cook for the reason your man himself couldn’t explain, but who could be sure. He is creaking the plate with a fork messing his untouched meal, and you swear to god are trying to be patient.

You mutter under your nose and get back to your phone, leaving Xanxus alone with his mood swings.

Until you feel something touch you cheek - too hot and too good smelling to be his lips or tongue.

“The hell are you doing?”, with a confused gaze you look at Xanxus holding out some steak piece on a fork.

“Shut the fuck up and eat”, he doesn’t sound irritated as usual though, more like…passive. Even calm you could say, but Xanxus is never calm, right?

“Is my man pampering me?”, you cannot help but smile, especially pointing out those words he oh so much likes, and shake your head coquettishly.

“Just making sure my food isn’t poisoned, brat”, Xanxus answers with a slight smirk that doesn’t go past your eyes.

⋆ Keeping a few of their favorite snacks in the house for when they visit

Xanxus is not domestic at all. A bit whiny cat that comes by your house from time time for the longest time. At least that’s what he thinks, after some times you notice ок is around your apartment more times than he is absent, which allows you to find out some of his habits. Sleeping on a specific side for example. The way Xanxus keeps bumping your leg when he wants you attention or…him having the sweetest tooth in the world.

It started with a cheesecake. You didn’t pay much attention, because eating everything in your house and leaving is pretty Xanxus, to be honest here. But then you see that only certain sweets disappear, it feels as if a very big scary bulky mafioso visits you just to steal candies. He, it seems, enjoys something on a lighter side, not too sweet - cakes with fruits for their little sourness, bitter coffee flavored chocolates. He does indeed enjoy pastry and “fancy” patisserie goods but hates caramel, to this day you wonder why.

You have to admit, getting cakes almost on a daily for Xanxus does bite your wallet - just imagine, this almost two meter high thick man eats twice as much, if not trice, as you.

“You like lemon cheesecakes, huh?”, he occasionally asks while passing by. “You ass gonna become fat”, he threatens you with his finger, and you smirk at his humor despite him having a deadpan usual face - you just feel when he is in a frisky mood.

“You like thick ass, don’t you?”

Xanxus barks a laugh in return

“I think I want to try a matcha cake roll from the new bakery nearby”, you nonchalantly add, smugly looking at his broad back.

“I think you want a rosemary lemon one.”

“What makes you think so?”

“Cause you like the taste, idiot”.

You look at Xanxus checking his gun and getting ready to leave and can’t help but smile way too fondly for your liking.

“Yeah, I think you are right”

Xanxus used to have caramels as a child - very rarely, and his poor mother surely tried her best despite her condition to find at least a couple of them hoping to make her son happy just a little. She used to hide them all around their place, and Xanxus didn’t even realize it was her, being proud with his detective work and annoyingly sniffing around. It didn’t feel the same with Nono, maybe the blood and tears spoiling the taste despite the unthinkable about of money his father could and would throw his way. But it’s…funnier with you. Because Xanxus can again play a smiffing all around detective and find a delicious prize there. You are not dumb and certainly catch something with your foxy witty eyes and mischievous smile and jokes here and there but keep playing along. This small game puts Xanxus” torn soul…at ease.

But you shouldn’t know any of that, he will selfishly keep memories of his dear mother to himself the same way he did with those caramels, and sometimes he can feel pouty because you will never understand how much this small gesture from you means to him.

He doesn’t eat caramels though. Brings back bitter memories.

⋆ Kisses. on. the. tip. of. the. nose.

⋆ Zipping or buttoning their jacket for them

Xanxus is already a pain in every place possible and he makes sure he is the biggest one all the time. It’s not easier in the slightest when he is injured and getting angry because of his lack of autonomy.

You look at his swearing - which is feting louder every second - and thin your lips, not sure what to do. Yes, he has said some rude words to you. Yes, you know that your feelings matter, but realizing where Xanxus has his mood come from softens you.

You sigh in defeat, looking at his pathetic attempts to button up his shirt while having one of his arms is broken - even putting in on was a sight to see, to be fair. You don’t say a word and don’t even look up at your partner, buttoning his shirt with a frown but being so delicate, as if you can hurt one of he most dangerous people around.

Xanxus doesn’t object a bit, patiently - which is an achievement for him - waiting for you to finish, and here you both are just silently standing here and not moving anywhere.

You look up at Xanxus and he rolls his eyes in return as if not to look at you on purpose.

Your heart sings just by looking in his eyes and you cannot help but stand on your tiptoes and cup his face. Kissing the tip of his nose, you smile at his wincing face and leave one more kiss. And more. And more. Until you finally leave your butterfly touch on his lips.

⋆ Waiting until they safely reach the front of the door or get inside before driving off

Xanxus has been trying to show he’s serious, starting with driving you himself instead of sending a chauffeur, and you are glad he sis this. Both of you feel comfort in a shared silence, his hand rubbing your hip or even nipping sometimes so you don’t fall asleep, is so hot to the touch it almost burns your skin. Xanxus doesn’t like when you get to your house, because he doesn’t want to let you go, and he doesn’t give a shit you have certain needs…like sleeping at night.

Every time you walk out of the car, he does so too, and you never understand why since he’s not the one to give a hug as a goodbye - making out in the car is pretty much enough.

“Why are you keep standing there when I go home?”, you ask one day.

“Smoking.”

“Okay.”

You get out of the car, and Xanxus does so too again. He puts his hands in his pockets, no cigarettes visible anywhere and knowing his shitty humour you are certain that was one of those dumb jokes.

You go to the building and turn around before entering and you see Xanxus drilling a hole in your back with an intense gaze.

“Hey, my house could be very dangerous too, you never know”, you start, and he lifts his brow. “Maybe you just start staying overnight?”

Xanxus grins.

⋆ Doing their makeup for them

Sleepy Xanxus is a sight to behold. His dve is still wet from the water - he hasn’t even used a towel after washing his face and even cuter you find him unable to even open his eyes, wrinkling his nose and muttering some curses with a hoarse voice.

You cant help but smile and squish his cheeks - non-existent basically because he has pronounced masculine cheekbones but you are she with the amount of candies he is going to get those eventually - and Xanxus growls.

“I will murder your family.”

“Love you too, babe.”

With a loud growl Xanxus buries his nose in your neck while you try to understand how his feather accessory is supposed to be attached to his hair.

You are not sure, but by the time you finish you think he has fallen asleep again. You just kiss the back of his head and entwine your hands around his shoulders.

Before shaking him violently with all the strength you have.

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? Well- I started off as a single muse blog as a human version of Thresh from league way before they updated his lore and kept kicking him even though he's already a redundant character lore wise now, but this blog was made for my bloodmoon Thresh who would alter become Yijun. Then I became a multi-muse to add some more of my ocs I really wanted to write and well here we are now. More specifically for my main muses, I started writing Tar as soon as he hit ptb to be honest. I just really resonated with his lore and it gave me an excuse to research things about the time period he's from, I think his lore leaves a lot to reading between the lines to see what's actually true and I was pleasantly surprised when his tome came out and it confirmed a lot of what I was already thinking. Though with Ghostface it was more so me really enjoying the concept of him as a character, a person who just so seamlessly blends into society he basically can get away with whatever he wants. While I had a number of HCs before his tome that ultimately had to be scrapped, I do really enjoy it and him more as a character.

is there anything you don’t like to write? I really do not like one-liners, I get bored so fast with them. I like writing things where there's continuity between what happened and the next our muses speak. And I feel like one-liners specifically just don't really allow that to happen.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? Oh I love writing when characters talk about their morals or ethics, I love the constant cat and mouse of trying to figure out what flavor of fucked up they're dealing with.

how do you come up with headcanons? Mostly depends on the character, with Tar I'll read about something that happened in his time period and be like "Oh hey he probably had to deal with that, how would he have dealt with it?" and a lot is just what I can muse over in my head can roll over for a while to talk about in a meaningful way. Not that I don't enjoy silly dumb HCs, but I'm less inclined to write about what a muses favorite ice cream flavor is vs their family history.

do you write in silence or do you play music?  For the life of me I cannot write with music playing whether its bg ambiance or not, I can't do it, it's too distracting to me.

do you plan your replies or wing them? Really depends on the reply. If it's a thread that's really important to my muse and how they'll be written with another char moving forward? I think about it a lot. If it isn't and it's just a first meeting or something, I don't very much.

do you enjoy shipping?  I enjoy shipping, but I a willing to admit I am absurdly picky. I prefer writing platonic relationships to romantic ones for the most part to be honest. For me to be invested in a romantic ship I have to know the other mun and talk to them regularly, I've been spoiled too much me thinks.

I've been thinking that i might be Matt Murdock, having strong kin feels and some stuff that might be memories, i've also been watching Daredevil (of course), but honestly I still don't understand how the process of kinsidering has to be? I usually just go ahead and go crazy and just kinfirm straight ahead the characters i slightly feel like they fit, sometimes I'll do some pendulum questions but, do i have to do something else? I honestly don't know, i want to be serious with this one kin, i don't know why. I've also been thinking of re-kinsidering all of my fictotypes, doing some more thinking and doing it "properly". I've had past kins that were strong, some of them have changed over time, some i found other words to describe them, i also want to make a lot of soul searching (i don't even know how that's done but whatever, i'll find out). Hi there :D!! Hope you're doing well. I wanted to ask you for advice. I'm working on a pos!discduo zombie AU story and it will be my proper first AU I've ever worked on, and I'm planning a lot for the plot, characters, dynamics, etc. My question is, what do you think it's better to make the AU on, as a fanfiction or a comic?? I love to read fanfics and comics about the dsmp so much and I'm indecisive about how to bring out to the world my AU, because I think both thngs have their pro's and con's, and since I've never write or make a comic before idk what to do. Anyways hope you have a good Thursday and I'm excited for a new part of No Man's Land!! (No pressure tho!!)

Well I have both written fics and drawn comics for years, so I’ll try to keep my answer somewhat simple.

I agree that both have pros and cons, and I wouldn’t say one is superior to the other, personally.

Off the bat, I think writing is much more beginner friendly. If you don’t have experience doing either, I’d probably lean that way first and see how it goes. Maybe you’ll find yourself being drawn more to comics later, but it’s probably safer to start there, than the end up in comic purgatory.

I’m sure it’s not the same for everyone, but in my experience, making a long-term comic is very draining, depending on how much detail you want to do. I don’t want to scare people away from it, but there’s been many times I’ve started something and gotten sick of it long before it would have reached any sort of ending. I’ve combatted that with No Mans Land by not stressing about upload speed, and also allowing my style to change in the process. (Which always drove me crazy before. But now if I want to suddenly change which brush I do all the line-art in, I will.) Through attempting several webcomics over time, I’ve learned a lot about my process and my weaknesses and how to get around them. It’s important to know yourself and know how you’d handle that sort of thing, which you can only do by trying. I would tell anyone interested in writing a comic to start with a short one-shot before trying to commit to something that may take years. (Which I learned the hard way lol)

But also. Consider doing both! I’d recommend writing a fic to start, but that doesn’t mean you couldn’t also throw in some shorter comics to add flavor; for extra scenes that don’t make it into the fic, or even just drawing out your favorite scenes. I’ve done it for my old fics a few times ^^

Baby!! I had so much fun with the dream scenes honestly!! I felt so evil writing it but it was so so satisfying (summary of this whole chapter honestly). My aim with those slightly wrong things was that you wouldn't quite be able to tell if it was just Obi-Wan's unreliable narration at work (especially because he often has moments where he's caught up in something and "doesn't quite remember"/"didn't realize" something happened), or if there was actually something wrong! I also thought about having the whole dream sequence in italics, but I wanted the reader to take Obi-Wan's introspection about not being an alpha seriously.

And the repetition of things which happened in the dream, but slightly different… idk what drove me to do that, but I'm soooo happy I did. I think it adds so much flavor in showing how Obi-Wan perceives the world (or how he fears it to be) vs. how it actually is!

Ahhh the concept of Obi-Wan openly being the first omega ruler from the beginning! He would have come out sooo much less depressed 🥺🥺 (But maybe, in some ways, more stern? He has to show that he's not soft just because he's an omega, after all!) I love to think that in an AU like this, Stewjon and Tatooine still needed that mutual help so they went to make an alliance. But since there's no immediate candidate that's obvious for marriage, Tatooine doesn't write anything about marriage in their terms, hoping it will pass under the radar (it does). They settle instead on a sort of cultural exchange where Anakin will come spend some time in Jedha and then later Obi-Wan will go and visit Mos Espa. And hey, two omegas in positions of power… working closely together…. Obi-Wan gets to be Anakin's friend without jumping through all the hoops. Anakin gets to learn all about Obi-Wan's secret dreams of marriage. And then Obi-Wan's heat rolls around, and Anakin offers to help, and-- Well, the rest is history!

The grade of suppressants Obi-Wan is taking are only meant to be used in the short term (a few years, with medically scheduled heats once or twice a year) in cases where it's not safe for an omega to be having heats. Otherwise, he should be taking regular-strength suppressants (with that same caveat of medically scheduled heats once or twice a year, along with a full detox every five or so years).

But uh. He's been taking them for twenty years. One medical heat a year, to mimic an alpha's biorhythm. No detoxes. It's a wonder his suppressants hadn't failed up until this point already. On top of all that is the new stimulation that he's getting from Anakin, which has his body trying to react like an omega (like Anakin's mate!!) and so it's also actively fighting through the suppressants rn. They're definitely failing, but they're failing slowly enough that he hasn't noticed. ((Also the idea that they'd fail is so inconceivable to him…. he's definitely not a doctor, lol))

I get you on the jealousy honestly I would HATE if someone did that irl but I'm such a fucking sucker for it in fiction. Anakin will cool down about it once he feels more secure, but I feel like it's necessary for his character to go through that development rather than being chill about Luminara from the get-go.

Luckily, Anakin will convince him that he wants to stay. So yes I'm putting Obi-Wan through the horrors, but. Ultimately it's so that he can heal and move on

Versus BGM

Disc 1 - 12. The Plunderer

JP's theme! The overall consensus seems to be it's A Good Theme, though it can get repetative quick. Though I agree for Rounds 1 and 2, I personally think the Final Round portion is the best part and I can get enough of it.

The ticking that's part of it is much like a clock... perhaps a countdown on a bomb... And the beat also sounds like a heartbeat to me, which create a general sense of foreboding. Oh, and low health with the syncopated beat is exactly how to make an already stressful song more stressful.

Gotta love the piano and strings, gives it an orchestral flavor that of course, fits JP's aesthetics a whole ton. And I swear the main phrase for the Final Round is referencing an existing piece. Or maybe they made it sound just vaguely reminiscent enough to sound familiar, idk.

Whatever it is, that Final Round goes hard. It's the harpsichord sounding support/accompaniment bits that give it that Vampiric mood. I really would love to hear a piano cover for his theme, maybe even learn it...

Disc 2 - 14. Suval'hal Arena

JP's stage theme!! I have it set as my online mode stage cause it's JP's, but also I do like the music for it a lot. Really interesting blend of genres that make it feel both ancient and modern, honorable and sinister. Gotta love the duality of it for none other than JP's stage, of his own design of course.

There's this part of the melody(?), that plays normally the first time, but sounds reversed the second time it plays. It's a really cool effect, and sounds especially nice in the Final Round. Kinda adds to the feeling that this arena wasn't built under natural circumstances and is out of place from the rest of Nayshall, despite its surface appearance being 'seeped in local tradition'.

The percussions/ drums are a lot of fun too. I think that's what really convinces the grand, outdoors tournament feel of the theme. And there's a hint of strings in the Final Round that do remind you hey, it's JP's stage by the way.

Disc 4 - 29. Suval'hal Arena, Prep Area

There isnt a background track for the outside the arena location that you can find JP as a Master at, so I'm treating this as the next best thing. And besides, JP does hang out in the Champion's Belt room under the arena proper, so, it sorta still applies to him.

More atmospheric, but I think it captures that sense of hyperfocused, serene, yet restless anticipation before heading out onto stage for a performance. Or tournament, as we'd have it. I almost want to say it reminds me of the first few seconds of an orchestra tuning their instruments.

World Tour Cutscenes BGM

Disc 5 - 47. The True Value of a Champion's Belt

World Tour cutscene that introduces JP. The first part of it's mostly ambience, with the horror-esque shrills for when the phantoms show up. Then we get some of that piano again for JP, and this WONDERFUL transition into this?? jazzy(?)?? little section at the end that I seriously wish were longer?!

Gosh, it's playful and classy, but also makes a point about him being Evil thanks to the Evil sfx. I just love the cello/ bass in this.

Disc 5 - 48. The Suval'hal Martial Arts Tournament (He's briefly in it at the end of the cutscene, showing off the champion's belt)

Disc 5 - 50. With a Bang (What a nice award ceremony, I'm sure nothing will go wrong!)

Disc 5 - 53. Congratulations (He lost and he's totally not salty about it.)

Disc 6 - 7. A Vessel for Psycho Power (Cutscene for becoming JP's student)

Disc 6 - 21. JP Style Mastery

The slight alternate version of his main theme. But compared to the amount of variation that other characters got for their Mastery themes, JP's doesn't differ too much!! I think only the tempo and bass gets a noticeable enough change. It's almost exactly the same phrase that's in the Final Round of his original theme, with a bit more clarity on the grand piano's playing. I mean I do love it, since this is my favorite portion anyway, but idk they could've gone further with it I think...

Arcade Mode BGM

Disc 7 - 13 - Kimberly Chasing the Truth 2 (Kimberly's arcade mode cutscenes that JP shows up in.)

Disc 7 - 21, 22, 23. JP Nayshall's Suval'hal Tournament 1, 2, 3 (From JP's own arcade mode)

Disc 7 - 31. Cammy The Investigation Continues 2 (Cammy's arcade mode, the cutscene which JP shows up in)

Disc 7 - 45, 46. Ken Questions Without Answers 1, 2 (Ken's arcade mode, which JP shows up in.)

Talking about all the arcade modes at once since they share similar observations. Things obviously sound more dire whenever JP shows up, since he's the final boss for everyone else's arcade modes. Usually denoted by more strings and sounding like Suval'hal Arena.

A minor thing, but even when Kimberly shows up in JP's arcade mode as the last boss fight, none of her pop/ 80's themes are added to the music. You wouldn't even know Kimberly was in the scene based on music alone, which to me suggests that's how little of a presence she is to JP, narrative wise. The opposite energy of "why do I hear boss music".

And for JP's 3rd arcade cutscene bgm, once again the violin/strings get heavily used, plus the Suval'hal Arena-esque drum beats. It's so dreadful and melancholic, in a cinematic way. Honestly a horrible mood to end this post on, but what can I do.

Okay so I know this is a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon blog, but lately I've been getting super into Torneko's Great Adventure, like it's so good???

It's also the first ever mystery dungeon game, released on the snes in 1993!! The game is a spinoff of the Dragon Quest series and stars a merchant named Torneko (Taloon in the US) from Dragon Quest 4. It acts as both a kind of a backstory for how he got his start as a merchant, as well as an explanation for how he got his wares (you can kind of think of it as if it were a pmd game that had you play as Kecleon!)

As you progress through the game, you gradually build up a home/shop/town using the goods you find in the dungeon! The game is semi-permadeath - whereas you always start at level 1 with a new dungeon each time, you get to keep half of the money you gathered in the dungeon upon losing. And there are items you can find that allow you to keep all of it like a safe, or an escape orb outside scroll that allows you to leave with not only all of your money, but your items as well that you can then sell! And once you get the 5th or 6th town expansion, you can build a vault that allows you to store 10 items to later take with you to give you an edge at the start of a new run as a bit of a risk-reward system!

So the thing that sticks out to me with the game is how it’s nearly identical to pokemon mystery dungeon. Like, I realized pmd is just Torneko with a pokemon coat of paint? Almost every mechanic from pmd (minus the pokemon and and their moves) are present. The seeds and orbs from pmd were a reworking of torneko’s herbs and scrolls respectively (blast seeds came from fire herbs, petrify orbs came from Numb scrolls, etc etc etc), a lot of the IQ skills came from effects on equipment, instead of sticky items there were cursed items, bread was turned into apples with moldy bread being grimy food, the arrows were turned into thorns, even the wands in super mystery dungeon are there almost exactly!

The main difference is Torneko is balanced to be more of a permadeath roguelike, and pmd is not. Sure pmd has some more roguelike-y dungeons where you start at a low level and can't bring in items, but not all of the 300+ character options are viable for those. Torneko is balanced with only one character in mind, and it’s honestly one of the best balanced roguelikes I’ve ever played. It’s so consistent in how it gets harder as you get better. It hits that sweet spot of letting you feel like you’re improving at it each run by learning how to approach it more strategically, while the luck based elements add flavor to that. Almost every enemy requires a different strategy and learning how they work is really enjoyable and rewarding ^.^ and every section of the dungeon from early on in the run to late is fun and engaging in it’s own regard.

Idk it’s just really good and fun and I love It ^.^ it’s maybe on of my favorite roguelikes of all time, and almost certainly my favorite snes game.

"obsessed with their character arc". For a character who literally never once appears onscreen and has very little solid information about them, I think Stanley is fucking fascinating. Of course, he has literally no stated backstory so THIS FASCINATION IS ADMITTEDLY BASED ON WHAT MADE THE MOST SENSE TO ME: that he is a former member of the Order who was iced out specifically because he got TOO creepy about Alessa for the rest of the cultists to handle. I think this is extra interesting because it adds another flavor of how individual Order members view Alessa/Heather, in addition to the viewpoints of Claudia/Vincent/Leonard which are addressed more directly. I know some people out there interpret him as like, idk, a creepy thing conjured up by the Otherworld that doesn't actually exist? But I think that "an actual flesh and blood human being who doesn't even care about the main plot but who is nonetheless stalking Heather around because he's the Order equivalent of someone who only goes to church because he has, like, erotic fantasies about being in love with but also mutilating Jesus" is so much scarier. I guess he doesn't really have an arc though unless you count his obvious buildup towards what was almost certainly going to be attacking Heather directly.

"everyone but me is wrong about them". I don't think this is necessarily true within the FANDOM but in terms of mainstream interpretations of the SH series it drives me batfuck insane that the most common take-away of Alessa is that she's insane and evil and somehow separate from/hateful towards Heather as a person. This is PROBABLY because of the movie but it's weird how many people literally think she's just the Scary Vengeful Child Ghost trope instead of like.... literally anything she actually does in canon.

"done dirty by the fans/creators". See answer no. 1, and I do feel that interpretation sometimes seems to seep into later series installments/spinoffs even if not directly. (Supposedly in an early pitch for Homecoming, Josh was supposed to become "like Alessa" but with water instead of fire, and they were going to have a telepathic Ghost Showdown against each other???). It's just weird to see a character who is like, explicitly sympathetic (the whole evil spirit thing was literally a fabrication made up by Dahlia to trick Harry into helping her) in the narrative get boiled down in interpretations/analysis to just be Cheryl's evil shadow self or something.

"ADOPTION PAPERS". IN EVERY SENSE EXCEPT PHYSICAL, I AM HARRY MASON. C'MERE KIDDO LET'S GO TOSS A FRISBEE AROUND. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOU I WILL KILL EVERYONE IN THE ROOM AND THEN MYSELF. (Harry wouldn't do that.)

It would have been neat to see more about him. Instead I had to invent a whole-ass offscreen narrative about his shitty small-town drug empire.

I GENUINELY DON'T THINK THERE ARE ANY POPULAR SHIPS LEFT but I know that at one point there was a lot of Kaufman/Harry around for seemingly no reason other than him being the only other shippable man in the game lmfao. I think a better ship is Harry's BOOT + Kaufman's ASS!!!!!!!

"constantly listening to music". Why yes I DO have a Michael Kaufman playlist folder! However upon scrutiny the only songs it truly needs are these three: "The Package" (A Perfect Circle), "Dogs" (Pink Floyd) (yes, all 17 minutes of it), "Give Us the Rope" (The Protomen).

i basically went down a rabbit hole and eventually ended up here lol. back in mid september, i was feeling nostalgic at like 2am and decided to look up some tmnt stuff because i used to be SUPER into the 2012 series when i was in elementary school, and i saw some folks talking about rottmnt. some of it was about the great animation, and others were 30+ year olds whining about how different it was, and that was enough to hook me in lol. i found the premiere/pilot episode that nickelodeon uploaded to their facebook page, then i saw the trailer for the rottmnt movie, and i watched both seasons over the course of the following week.

💔 - tell us about one of your LEAST favorite characters and why you dislike them.

i don't like either of the sando brothers, unfortunately </3 i just think they're both kind of annoying, and not in an enjoyable way. i know they're more or less just one-off characters used to add more villains and such, so they're obviously not gonna be as well developed as the rest of the villains, but i just. don't like them very much :')

🏳️‍🌈 - do you have any headcanons that are important to you?

YES YES YES. okay so, like,,, im usually not super concrete about my headcanons and such bc i like playing around with this stuff, but i DO have some that stay pretty consistent:

leo - gay trans man w/ adhd <3 he/they, bc why not. plays guitar but sucks at it bc he barely practices (projecting onto him lmaoo). sneaks out of the lair to go to shitty concerts sometimes, both in the hidden city and on the surface. medic of the team, but tends to pass off the more severe stuff to donnie.

donnie - bi, queer, and masc aligned nonbinary (or agender maybe. kinda like both headcanons so i can't pick between them). they/he, but he doesn't really care about terms (masc/neutral are usually used by others, but they don't mind fem ones either). autistic, but idk if that counts as a headcanon since it was confirmed as canon recently? but yeah. loves plants and botany in general, even though tech is still his wheelhouse. second most capable when it comes to cooking (behind mikey, of course), he just doesn't do it very often. also sneaks out like leo does, but he usually just does stupid and/or mildly to moderately unsafe shit bc dude likes the adrenaline.

raph - unlabeled queer. he just doesn't feel the need to pick a label, y'know? he's just raph, and that works for him. folks usually use he/him bc it's familar, but he has no real preference most of the time, so any work. autistic + possibly some other flavor of neurodivergent. picked up knitting at some point and he sometimes makes gifts for his family. the only brother with a decently strict sleep schedule.

mikey - pan + either genderflux or demiboy. any pronouns, but his preference changes pretty often. adhd, dyslexic, and probably autistic. lots of vocal stims bc i like projecting <3 him + raph used to be closer, but they drifted apart a bit as they got older (they're still close, of course, but it's different compared to when they were kids). his favorite season is either spring or fall. despite how seemingly adept he is at handling other people's negative emotions, he SUCKS at handling his own. buddy tries to bottle that shit up and it does Not work out.

aaand those are my current favorite ones i think. ive got some, uh,,, slightly more embarrassing ones ig? nothing objectively bad obviously but. just might talk abt them in the tags bc i can <3

hey, played your layton life demo and really enjoyed it! it was a little tricky navigating the map at first and knowing what to do but other than that and a couple expected little early beta quirks, it was a smooth experience! i really enjoyed the flavor text on random items and little nods to the games. also it’s very funny to actually have the professor do his job for once lmao. what are your next goals for the project? or if that’s a little too up in the air, are there any specific characters or quests you’d like to include someday?

im glad u enjoyed it! i put some dev notes in the game files for people to read which explain some of these bits too but as for what im planning!!

i wanna put every npc in the game bc i felt the fact the og game lacked certain characters (and included really dull ones???) and i kinda wished they'd added more into it. idk why im doing this, drawing the character sprites is the most time consuming shit for me, its why the demo doesn't have as many people as id like lmaooo

right now im just building up the other areas on the map, but im planning to add areas to travel to like misthallery and dropstone! also gonna add some minigames, puzzles, big mission quests and character quests!! that way i can feasibly add every npc from curious village-last specter in the game. (miracle mask and azran legacy miiight have to wait, but there'll be some special character appearances from outside the first four games too so)

either way its a stupid amount of work lmao but i love the series dearly so its always worth it to see other people enjoy it too! i may release another demo when another portion of the map is completed but we'll see. the biggest bulk of my time is taken up by all the artwork haha

bro, just a quick late night thought (keep in mind, im only caught up to twst's story up to the english translation and only know about book 6 via spoilers -_- so if im wrong then please don't spoil anything that happens in book 5 part 3 and onwards)

alright, here it is: i don't think that twst is gonna end at book 7. i dunno if the devs ever said the story was gonna end at book 7 or not so correct me if im wrong but i feel like there's so much we don't know that i feel would only be rushed if the game's main story were to end at the end of book 7.

for example: anything about crowley! all we really know about him is that he's the headmaster, claims to be very generous and kind despite being a lazy prick who dumps all his issues on the dorm leaders + yuu, and seems to avoid getting yuu home at all cost, either cuz it's tiring for him (which would be funny but sorta disappointing) or cuz he needs them at nrc.

another example: mickey fucking mouse. i think the plot with mickey is gonna be resolved in book 7 but i still can't get over his existence (#antimickeyclub ig lol)

i know the whole point of the game is to focus on nrc and the villain students but id like to see more of royal sword academy. like, i think rn the main purpose of rsa is to juxtapose itself to nrc as well as to be the school niege comes from since he's based off of snow white and you get the point

ive seen one theory on tik tok (ill put their @ at the end of the post at a later date) or somewhere else but the theory goes that the reason as to why overblots seem to be happening so often is bc the stone you were trying to get in the prologue is inside nrc and probably affecting the students more. i wanna add onto this more by saying that overblots are deadly, meaning the spirit attacking you in the prologue is either the dead dwarves (yikes) or the spirit that appears after the overblot victims either fused with the dwarves or roaming free after the dwarves deaths. im really tired so idek where this is going but that's just another reason ig that the story would feel pretty empty after book 7 if it were to end there

another thing is malleus. assuming that he's going to be the next overblot victim and the final boss for his book, that would be really weird to end the book after that since, after defeating each book's boss, prologue included, grim (like the little dumbass cat he is) decided to eat the overblot residue rocks that are excreted at the end of the fight (which also give a flavor profile of the person who overblotted ??? which is sorta funny ngl). and im 1000% certain that this isn't just a read herring and him eating the rocks is going to lead to, as most people suspect, grim overblotting himself (during the tutorial, you even fight a boss that looks like grim but with characteristics of the other characters: dragon wings (malleus) more agressive blue flames (iida) a lion like face / muzzle (leona, which i know is a reach but still) as well as some of the abilities introduced in each book (idk i didn't really pay much attention to the tutorial lol)

so yeah, tldr; it doesn't make any sense to end twst's main story at book 7 unless they either add an epilogue where grim blots or at the blot sequence after malleus' boss fight, which would be pretty cool ngl, sorta like a little curve ball

im sorry this is so long, I just had a lotta thoughts and dumped them here lol

edit: I KNOW I JUST POSTED THIS BUT I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING! y'know how there's 22 students in the game? well, there's also 22 cards in the main arcana. given how clever the game can be, i don't this is just a coincidence. might make another post just on this specially since i like tarot cards and stuff like that

okay no I have more to say about FF8

the Master Fisherman's quest in Fisherman's Horizon is so charming and a really good example of what I think is a great sidequest. you get a couple rare items, yes, but you also get to speak with lively, fun NPCs and learn about the history of the town you're in, further developing the world and getting some characterization in for Squall (the protagonist) too. that's what it's all about!!! I love sidequests that flesh out worlds/characters like that.

FH itself is bursting with charm, I love the story behind the town and the worn/rusty look of it and the music is so chill and you get a sense of a nice little community there. really well-done location.

I really like the magazines you can collect throughout the game, particularly Timber Maniacs and Occult Fan. even the ones that are just for unlocking weapons and Rinoa's Limit Breaks add flavor! but I especially like TM and OF because the former is connected to the main storyline, and the second one is related to a sidequest but also feels like a real magazine about Weird Shit. idk, it's just... one of the little gameplay things that adds life to the world.

people used to be really awful about certain characters, and I resent it. I remember people saying Squall was whiny and that his character development was static until an event on disc 3 where he did a 180. but... that's just not the case at all? this guy is a traumatized teenager yanked into things way bigger than he ever thought he'd be, and pushed into positions of responsibility he's unprepared for, and also his development starts way before then? if you pay close attention to him you can see it unfolding early on.

Rinoa got a lot of hate too, but a ton of that was just old-fashioned misogyny. :| she is flawed, yes, but in interesting ways that she grows out of, and is also a teenager. these people responsible for saving the world are all teenagers. please cut them some slack.

that said, while I am naturally inclined to prefer female characters, some of them... test me. Quistis is one of them. the way she treats Squall at the start of the game, saying what she thinks he's going to say and then giggling when he does say it, irritates the hell out of me, because I've had people do similar things to me and it's so rude. the way she hits on him is also uncomfortable. she's only a year older, but she starts off the game as his instructor and waits to tell him she's been demoted from that position until after being weird towards him. nope. don't like it. she gets better later, but man.

people used to make fun of Selphie and her silly little train song too, but I love her? she's very smart and mature and probably one of the most level-headed ones in the group and also she wants to blow up the bad guys, which. rock on, girl. I got your back, let's go do crimes.

Balamb and Dollet are so unfairly gorgeous. let me live there, please.

oh yeah, speaking of crime, I forgot to mention in my other post that we also kinda hijacked a train? and this one soldier chased after it trying to get us to stop and it didn't end well for him and I laughed so hard. this game can be really funny!

I like seeing people in wheelchairs in the game! it's just been NPCs, which isn't the *best* rep, but they're THERE. even in a MILITARY ACADEMY. in a game from 1999! and one of the ones in town talks, along with his sister, about how he's really good at scuba diving and taught her how to do it too, or something. it's a little thing, but it's nice, and it's sad that it isn't more common in fantasy settings even today.
