favourite thing about them

I love how she can be quite bloodthirsty, especially when talking about Sukuna. He's quite scared of her or at least cautious and for a good reason. She would've killed (most of) him if it wasn't for Hana hesitating. Also her CT is absolutely sick. The Evangelion-like beam from the sky, the skull babies/cherub coming for a person's soul. Good reminder for why you shouldn't fuck with Heian sorcerers. Also she's a social caterpillar, but also a bit of a gossip. It's kind of adorable how bad she is at emphasizing with others and arguing with them. What do you mean you feel bad about killing these people? Keeping them alive is so inconvenient. btw, did I tell you about Hana's crush?

least favourite thing about them

Gege has relegated her to a can opener since Hana got hurt and convenient exposition dump similar to Kusakabe. Completely lost all her fire from when she was introduced. Not only did she go back on her deal of only helping the kids if they kill Sukuna first (that in itself wouldn't be that bad, but we don't even see her change her mind or for the kids to argue that she'd help them first), but now she's apparently fine sitting out the whole thing entirely with no ambitions to get involved herself. What happened to butchering Sukuna? At this point, reincarnating was entirely unnecessary. She might've as well gone "well I'm sure someone will manage to kill Sukuna in the future" and died. Her principles were barely tested at all. First she was hell-bend on killing Sukuna, which would put her in conflict with Hana and require her to take over her body at some point, but then she's just fine with continuing with being a parasite, even if it means Sukuna might escape. We don't even see her struggle with this decision. But the good thing is that I'm still relatively confident we'll learn about her and Sukuna's relationship in a flashback (else why bring up the Fallen One thing) and as a reincarnated sorcerer she has to die at some point. She can't just stay inside Hana forever. And for that to happen, she has to become more active and ideally get involved in the Sukuna fight personally. So there is a chance of her (and Hana) to become relevant again...

brOTP

Her and Hana, I would say. I like how she teases Hana about her feelings for Megumi. She is also quite protective of her. Both self-serving in that she needs her body to survive, but as time goes on it seems that they are co-existing quite well and she has come to care about Hana being her function as a vessel.

OTP

Yorozu. Angel/Yorozu probably more like friends with benefits. Yorozu would have a field day fighting Angel. Might first start out with her lecturing Angel about how her hate for Sukuna makes her blind, but evolve into her genuinely enjoying the fight because I mean, Angel is strong and quite ruthless herself. And once you got the blood pumping, you can steer things in other directions. I think there's some potential for Takako/Angel too.

nOTP

She doesn't really get shipped with anyone, but I hate Angel/Sukuna as a concept. Talk about dumbing-down an interesting relationship.

random headcanon

She looks a little...different in her original form. Maybe not obvious bodily mutations like what Sukuna has (although I'd like that too), but something that says "biblically accurate angel" to contrast Hana's very pure and innocent appearance. Angel is anything but that, so I'd like her appearance to reflect that. Even if it's just something about her aura or eyes that makes it clear there's something wrong with her.

unpopular opinion

She's an interesting character that gets horribly sidelined. She's not Hana (yes, that's still a misconception in some circles). She'll become relevant again.

I chose Jericho & The King's Affirmation by Iniko. Iniko embodies Angel's power and determination very well I think and Jericho in particular reminds me of her technique and how she will break down people's barriers and souls.

do I like them:

Like Shadow, he's one of those characters I think are alright, but you wouldn't find him as one of my favourites, basically. I'm not overly fond of him, but I like him for sure!

5 good qualities:

He's got a heart of gold and is quite kind underneath his rough exterior. He might come across as grumpy, but you know he means well for Angel Island, the Master Emerald, and his friends alike.

I like how he's a treasure hunter! It ties nicely with the fact he lives on an island full of ruins of a lost civilisation who are also his ancestors, so of course he'd be interested in it. Furthermore, in some games he gets to show off this knowledge as well, which is neat to see.

He furthermore got something of a cheeky side to him in S3&K, chuckling whenever he gets Sonic and Tails caught up in a trap. I think it nicely shows how he's not an above-it-all high and mighty Guardian, but that he can be more silly as well.

It is honestly impressive how far he can come with simply his own physical strength, nothing otherworldly or supernatural (like a psychic power or Shadow's skills with Chaos energies) required.

He's got a nice dynamic going on with Sonic and Tails, and I can see why the three of them make such a good team!

3 bad qualities:

Just like Blaze and Silver, also Knuckles is hard to put in a story in a way that doesn't raise eyebrows. If he just randomly shows up somewhere, everyone is immediately like "But then who is guarding the Master Emerald???" and the concept of him training a bunch of Animal Friends to protect it when he's away has never been shown in a game. Thus, Knuckles is difficult to implement in a story without it immediately raising lots of questions that the narrative does not always address.

I can see why Commander Knuckles from Forces is unpopular. For me, Knuckles also does not really have the people- and strategy skills necessary to fill such a role, even if I'm convinced that he absolutely gave it his all. But with operation Big Wave, wherein he openly admits he thought up the idea in a minute and a half iirc, it is clear to see why Knuckles perhaps was not really the strategic mastermind needed to counteract Eggman's genius. No wonder the war took six months.

This dude is simply easily duped, often to his own detriment when the other characters go like "haha did Eggman trick you again silly Knuckles what did he say this time". For me, stuff like that strongly 'degrades' a character who otherwise is definitely not dumb. Especially if it just kind of happens a lot, which I would reason can definitely be the case with Knuckles, especially earlier in the franchise.

head canon:

Knuckles is amazing at outdoor cooking over a campfire, and making good-tasting and nutritious meals from scavenged ingredients. He furthermore has a wealth of knowledge about what is edible and what is not. Amy often goes to him to gather fresh ingredients straight from the island to use in her cooking, and he gladly helps her find the good stuff in exchange for getting some of it delivered to him. But he certainly is not above cooking stuff himself as well!

favorite thing about them- i think i said this the last time i did these but i love that she's fairly complex, really; she's often portrayed as 'figaro's wife who can do no wrong' but she really does have some very interesting flaws and i like that about her

least favorite thing about them- as always with opera characters it comes down to how they're portrayed. really dislike the whole 'she can't do anything wrong' thing a lot of productions sell bc it makes her way less entertaining (and the whole opera gets more sexist somehow). also really not a fan of the 'and the countess and susanna are BESTIES' concept but i'll get to that below

favorite line- every time she insults anyone i gain life

brOTP- love it when she has a like... big sibling-little sibling dynamic with cherubino. also i love her friendship with marcellina that grows near the end of the opera. finally she and figaro are best friends just as much as they are romantic partners

OTP- figaro. obviously.

nOTP- ok time to soapbox bc i'm thinking about this, right now. i genuinely don't get people who pair up susanna and the countess. the best way to sum up how I think the susanna-countess dynamic should be is a discussion i had with a director i was interning under a year ago, in which he was telling me about the best marriage of figaro production he'd seen. and he said in the letter duet that... susanna was sorta scared. susanna does think of the count as an annoyance, most of the time, but she is also fully aware of the count's power and is rather uncomfortable with the plan. and right before the duet susanna protests this whole situation, only for the countess to immediately shut her down and get her writing. and the way this production played it highlighted that without ever having it go too far, make it clear the letter duet is this moment between two women of vastly different worlds; and god damn that is way more fascinating than HASHTAG GIRLBESTIES or what have you. i think susanna and the countess aren't friends, really. throughout the opera they grow to understand one another and form a bond, but it's a subtle thing, and i don't understand the susanna/countess appeal besides lesbianism (of which there's better examples to be found in opera anyway).

random headcanon- i like to think when they initially met susanna and figaro were rivals who eventually grew fond of one another

unpopular opinion- tbh everything so far ive said is an unpopular opinion LOL but mainly the whole weird HASHTAG GIRLBOSS thing opera companies have been doing wrt marriage of figaro has only hindered susanna's character because of how... superficial it all is

least favorite thing about them- increasingly don giovanni productions feel like a 'the director and dramaturg horribly misinterpret leporello's character' speedrun and obviously i'm NOT a fan of this development. (don g. has ALWAYS been a Misinterpretation Speedrun, however, so who can be surprised.)

favorite line- i always like that he calls out the don for what he did to anna like immediately. really funny how his literal first lines of recitative are that and yet people misinterpret him as a vile sycophant who would be just like the don if he had the opportunity. I'm not mad about it though. (Gripping chair armrests violently) I'm not mad

brOTP- elvira :) also i think him being friends with zerlina and masetto is objectively hilarious bc Can you imagine two 17 year olds deciding to adopt a 28-30 Year Old Man That Something Is Definitely Wrong With

OTP- you see, i'm the only person in the whole wide world who cares about fiorello from the barber of seville, and-

nOTP- really anyone else in the opera but ESPECIALLY the don, obviously. i don't even think leporello is romantically in love with the don, it's more of a weird not-platonic-not-romantic-undefinable-and-rotten trauma bond situation developed by years of abuse and lep not really having anyone else. it's weird but trust me it makes sense in my dumb little rodent brain

random headcanon- you get three for the price of one. he's autistic and jewish and he loves to knit :)

unpopular opinion- Everything, really, Mainly being that i like him and think he is more than comic relief or a sycophant or what have you. He and Elvira are the literal main characters of the show

song i associate with them- ik ive said this before but listening to moonlight on the river by mac demarco and then segueing into don juan (also by. mac demarco) is such an experience i think everyone who directs the opera needs to do this

Season 2 is definitely my favorite season. I absolutely adore Lake and Jesse's relationship with each other (with Jesslake being my OTP from the show) along with their friendship with Alan Dracula and how their characters progress. One of the best moments in the show was Jesse standing up to Grace and Simon to save Jessee. Him standing by while someone he cared about was mistreated was what landed him on the train so its only fitting that not making the same mistake is what gets him off the train (love me some parallels in stories). Though season 3 was also great and I legit screamed over Simon's death because it was incredibly brutal and just shocked me!

I haven't given the AU too much thought/dedicated time but I do have a Huntlow x Infinity Train AU idea. Willow would be a passenger with her running into Hunter who'd be a combination of Hazel + his Grimwalker origin in which Phillip has been on the train constantly trying to/creating clones of his brother with him also taking over the train. Those are just the basic concepts I've thought of though.

Yessss 100% about Jesse and Lake. I like how they went from complete strangers, one of whom wanted to get rid of the other, to each other's best friends (+Alan Dracula) And it's not like it came out of nowhere for them! They actually went out of their way to help the other at times, and it's very clear that they both started to care deeply about each other

And I never really thought about it before, but you're totally right about Jesse's character development. You really feel like he's earned his way out of the train, rather than just doing some random good deeds here and there. He's really grown by the time the end of the season comes around. 10/10 writing, good job infinity train writers

Also yes Simon's death was,, incredibly brutal. He even died in front of Grace and the other kids. Imagine the trauma. I'm genuinely surprised Cartoon Network allowed the creators to show his death, ON SCREEN no less

Your Huntlow Infinity Train AU sounds super interesting, I don't think I've heard of anyone else with a similar idea. Would Phillip be somewhat like Amelia? He knows that the more numbers he gets, the "worse" of a person he is, but he just doesn't care. I feel he would definitely be covered head to toe with the numbers, like Simon after he pushed Grace off the train.

I'm interested in hearing more about your AU if you get around to tying down any more details!!

Hi random anon! I'm sorry it took me so long to reply! First of all, I am so glad to hear there's more of us! I could never find the others like me before, and several people told me it was weird that I didn't which felt like gaslighting to me at the time since... well, I was actively searching and not finding anything. I feel like people are a bit more open to it privately but not publicly. I miss my otp, but I've lost all interest in fics and fanart from a cf universe. That being said, if you ever want to ask about my headcanons/au's or share your own, that is why I have my askbox open! I'm glad to have you and thankful that you reached out!

Gosh, I remember they utter chilling silence I got in response when I said I thought she was a better villain than a protagonist previously. I've also seen several stans say that AM goes out of its way to make you hate her. Ironically, most people I hang out with now find AM to be the route she's the most sympathetic in! And I agree with you! She's tragic in AM, but there I could at least see her and be like "you know what, I feel like I understand you and I respect your choices." To me, AM is even, in a bitterweet way, a good end for her because ultimately she chooses her end there. She gets the very clear option of life or death, and she chooses death because to her it is the better alternative (why is another matter. Is she unwilling to surrender? Is she convinced that she will not be able to get her army to stand down? Has she just given up? Either way, death is her choice in that moment)

It really is a shame that I think you're right. I was very very close to liking all of Houses, but with the caveat that CF is to me a villain route that is trying to make you feel like a hero. Y'know, like most villains feel they are. But after three years of discourse, I can't stand the route any more. And it is such a shame too because Fates had, as its whole point, that you need to play all routes to know the truth. And I really liked it when Houses came out that they seemingly went the same way. I like puzzling things together, I like seeing people theorize. And this time, it shot itself in the foot something fierce. And I really really hope they'll learn from it because if they keep going with this formula the FE series is in a bad state.

I do love talkative asks so don't worry about that! And again, I agree with you. When I finished Houses I lauded it as one of my new fav games. I compared it to Path of Radiance, my fav in the series, because of how it gripped me. I thought it was a game that truly got into gray morality when I looked at Rhea, and I loved the tragedy of Ladle character and how she was basically repeating history because she refused to learn the truth of both past and present. And then fandom happened. It is tainted ground now. My roommate even told me not to play the games any more because he saw how it affected me. And it pains me because it didn't have to be this way! It could've been good! It could have been consistent! It could have had Good Routes instead of just A Fav Route And Damn The Rest. It frustrates me to no end. So... I'm really glad you sent all these asks. It made me feel a bit better. Feel free to send me any Ladle-less ferdibert thoughts!

As for my favorite ships.... There are mainly 4 I adore and actively seek out content for:

4. Liutana

Listen okay. These two are simply adorable together, and it's so, so clear they're HEAD OVER HEELS for each other. It literally doesn't matter what gets in their way - vastly different lifespans, evil tyrants, their realms being in conflict, or even Literal Death - they always pull through and stick together, which proves how much of a power couple they are and how strong their bond is. Every single interaction they have shows the sheer amount of respect and devotion they have for each other and i Live for it.

also liu being such a sweet awkward bean is a cute little bonus

3. Jakeda

These two just have such good chemistry. Every single one of their interactions is golden, and really, tough Specialist Jacqueline Briggs having a soft spot for a smooth jokester like Takeda is actually a perfect concept. They complement each other really well, and the way they're so open about their feelings for each other really sells this ship imo. That scene where Takeda calls Jacqui "beautiful" is just *biggest chef kiss in history*

2. Kung Lao x Mileena

This ship is SEVERELY underrated and the fact that they don't even have a ship name (afaik) is actually a crime. I've delved a little bit into why I like these two together and how they could work in this post, but in summary, they're always in the shadow of their "superior" counterparts and are shrugged off by others because of it, which could result in some level of understanding between the two and serve as a basis for their relationship. Idk, they could help each other realize they have inherent value and don't need other people's approval to be great in their own right, and ugh just thinking about it is making me 1) tear up and 2) want to yell at nrs writers for not seeing the IMMENSE potential these two have. Really, I don't care if it's platonic or romantic, Kung Lao x Mileena is undoubtedly top notch no matter how you look at it.

1. Erronjin

Now THIS. This is my number one, undisputed OTP.

These two are peak Jerk x Jerk. They both have a quick wit and sharp tongue, so they're the type of couple who'd try to out-snark each other only to end up kissing passionately at the end, and I honestly love that for them. There's also the enemies to lovers potential..... The fact that they both seem to have emotional repression and family issues they could address together......... And the way they speak to each other is so suave, almost flirtatious, it really makes you think they might be fascinated by each other, maybe even more than you'd initially think. I don't know about you, but all those things sound like recipes for a strong, compelling romance to me, and I really wish they had more canon interactions. I truly do believe these two could bring out the best out of each other if they gave it a shot (pun 100% intended).

ngl i don't have much of an attachment to pony flash as i used to when i was younger 😭 i think ever since i got obsessed w eqg i've been more human flash oriented

i used to love flashlight when i was younger! i think now it's more of a "omg theyre so cute :((" ship for me now than an otp

ppl always say pri twi x human flash it's a forced het romance (when it's only rlly het if you see it that way, they're both bi idc) and that they had no proper connection and i can see why they say that? but still, there's nothing so horrible about it that it warranted so much hate for the past few years

eqg flashlight is an interesting concept if you think about it because it's clear that they both like each other somewhat but due to unfortunate circumstances, they can't really do anything about it? i feel like we don't really give flashlight enough credit on that because this happens in real life too, albeit to a less dramatic extent circumstance wise.

they also had flash canonly move on from pri twi despite there have being no rejection made from her whatsoever. and that happens unfortunately! sometimes ppl leave without giving unfinished relationships closure due to other priorities and sometimes we can’t rlly blame them for that.

having the love interest of a show be told they should probably move on and have them ACTUALLY move on and be somewhat of his own person isn't something i see in children's media AT ALL so i'm actually glad with the way they went about it. it's still sad bc they were really cute, it's just realistic i guess? and it just gives him some development too!

i do like to think pri twi and pony flash have some sort of feelings for each other, i just don't have much to say abt that hc wise as i'm not that into fim anymore

though, there is this one vague idea i have in my head? like, for a post-high school story (i'm obsessed with these, as you can tell) which involves the girls needed pri twi for help and so she brings over flash from equestria too and the two flash's meet due to the story

appearance wise i imagine their human forms to be kinda different? pony flash is more himbo like whereas human flash is kinda twinky compared to him (yet he's like 80% muscle).

sunset is jarred because bringing pony flash along wasn't part of the plan. they have him in a disguise as they wander around town, pri twi and pony flash rlly confused until sunset shows them that human flash is . literally a celebrity. so if pony flash is just walking around canterlot looking like a fucking famous idol, it'd be a problem??

eventually the two flashes do meet and i can personally see them butting heads mainly bc they have slightly different views and judge each other a bit too heavily but they get over it !!! bc they have other stuff to deal with together <3

these post-high school ideas i have w eqg are always incomplete bc i have no idea what to do with them but !!!!! yeah that's rlly all i've got for flashlight tbh! they are very cute and i love them v much

This article argues that it's unreasonable to see the line as a romantic gesture from Cloud, and that an alternative interpretation of the line as a comment concerning the impending doom is more likely. __________________________________________________

People try to use this to prove that Cloud wants Aerith ever since 1997. Now lets be clear here, this interpretation is patently absurd as soon as you think about it for more than 2 seconds. Do you really think for a second that Square would end the game with Cloud randomly telling Tifa as they're about to die, "you know what I want to tell you before we die? I don't love you and I'm glad I'm dying so I can be with another woman in the afterlife"? They wouldn't, this is the most unreasonable story interpretation I've ever heard, whatever that line is meant to mean, it wouldn't be that. Let's be clear here, the only people who think that this line is a genuine argument in favor of Clerith, are people who are already Cleriths. They see the line, and find it to be in line with their beliefs, and it is. The problem is that that's not how science is done. The question isn't whether or not a piece of evidence is in line with your point of view, it's whether it disproves the opposite point of view, which in this case it doesn't. (Also see: "The Wittgenstein test") It should be noted that arguments like these do not do Cleriths any favors, because in addition to proving nothing, they show something fundamentally problematic about the Clerith view of the story. In order to believe that this line in incompatible with a Cloti interpretation of the story, there are a number of tangentially related positions that you'd have to defend. 1: It's impossible to want to be reunited with anyone except if you love them romantically. 2: Cloud is an absolute asshole who would dump a woman he just had sex with, just as they're about to die. 3: Tifa is the worlds biggest simp. 4: This is how SE wants you to see their characters. In one fell swoop of a bad story interpretation you've undermined the importance of all other forms of love, you've undermined the importance of Clouds character arc concerning guilt. You've basically trampled on those who suffer from mental health issues by simplifying their issues into love cliches, you've made a villain of Clouds character, made a mockery of Tifas character, and revealed that you don't understand basic storytelling.

This is the fundamental problem with these arguments that cause many of us to develop a distinct distaste for Clerith as a ship, because when Cleriths attempt to argue in favor of it, it often comes in the form insults towards all characters and stories involved. You could have a story about Cloud loving Aerith, but if defending said story requires you to argue that Cloud would leave a girl with two children, one of which is dying, for no other reason besides being lovesick, then that does a disservice to the characters, the story, and the franchise in general. In a sense, by trying to defend Clerith like this you're insulting the entirety of Final Fantasy. Are there people who are assholes? Yes, are there people who get straight up "pumped and dumped"? Yes. Is that the sort of hero that SE is trying to show us? Obviously not. (for more information regarding this I advise you read: Insane hobbits article where he touches on the differences between clean and messy narratives) If SE wanted to end the game with Cloud proclaiming his love to Aerith in some way, they wouldn't have Tifa hanging on his side while he's doing it, and she wouldn't respond with "yeah, lets go meet her" like the universe biggest simp. So what is actually said? Well, I am not a translator, but as far as I can tell Japanese doesn't have pronouns and the line generally refers to meeting people in the promised land, which includes Tifa in the people going, and it's not specifically about Aerith. Is Aerith included? Of course, she's probably even the main person to meet there, she's certainly singled out as the person talked about by certain supplementary materials, but it's not a romantic sentiment, it's a tragic "we're about to die" sentiment, meant to convey a more generally positive message about being "reunited" with those who have died. The more likely paraphrasing for this scene is: "Cloud asks for an answer from the planet, the planet reveals the lifestream, Cloud and Tifa realize they're about to die. Cloud muses that he thinks he gets it now, they're all going to die and be reunited in the lifestream, both with each other, as well as those who have died, with Aerith being the most obvious and recent example." So is there any evidence for this? Well, for one there is the storyboard for the scene:

Cloud: "I'm going home Tifa" Tifa: "What?" Cloud "We had something to do after we got home. We haven't seen the other side of the mountain yet ..." Tifa: "Yeah ... let's go home"

"the other side of the mountain" is a reference to the mountains of Nibleheim, where Tifa believed the dead went. In other words, this is either a reference to them going home because they have stuff to do, which ties into the general idea that Cloud and Co had to live in order for their sins to be forgiven, as is evidenced by:

“I’m going to live. I think that’s the only way I can be forgiven. All sorts of things… happened.” ~Cloud in case of Tifa.

Or more likely it's be a reference to how they're about to die. Neither interpretation says anything about this scene being intended to be a romantic sign towards Aerith. Now, of course, the line was changed, and intentions can change during development. But if we're unsure on what the meaning of a line is, then going back to the storyboard is a pretty good way to get context.

"They're talking about", confirming that this is a mutual discussion, and not Cloud in isolation.

Provides context for the intended ideas the line is meant to convey. It calls back to earlier concepts concerning death not being the end, and is something Cloud and Tifa talk about together.

These are not prescriptive canon, but descriptively they can give us some indication of how we're supposed to interpret the line.

Also reinforces the idea that the final line is meant as a more inclusive statement concerning reunions after death. Taking these points into consideration it becomes unreasonable to take the "I think I can meet her there" as a shipping line between Cloud and Aerith. If it were:

SE wouldn't have hung Tifa from Clouds hips.

Wouldn't have had Tifa agree with the idea.

Wouldn't have done it as the two were about to die.

Wouldn't have the storyboard refer to a shared journey beyond the mountains.

And most importantly, SE wouldn't have followed it up with Cloud commenting moments later that he's going to live in order to atone for his sins, and that things would be different now that he has Tifa. Clearly meeting again in the afterlife was more of an immediate danger rather than an immediate goal:

As Tifa looked away from the sky towards the ground, she was fearful of the future. However, Cloud beside her chose to smile gently. It was a smile that she hadn’t seen before during their journey. Cloud noticed her gaze and asked, “What’s wrong?” “Cloud, you’re smiling.” “I am?” “Yeah.” “It all starts now. A new…” Cloud looked for the right words. “A new life.” “I’m going to live. I think I basically realised I was ace around 2014ish give or take, like basically around age 21-22 I started being a bit like 'Hmmm' and then for a few reasons got stuck in like a questioning limbo for a while where I kind of like felt like I couldn't decide it if was like 'I am like a really really late bloomer'/'I just haven't met anyone' vs like 'Oh no wait I'm aspec' it was quite hard to work out also uh at the time the like attitude around asexuality on tumblr was a bit... of a mess at the time so it also factored into it taking a while.

Like tbh even now I wouldn't say I have things totally squared away as I've not clearly worked out if I'm also aro, attraction is weird etc. Like I can see people who make me go like 'Oh wow pretty person' and like I can identify someone like considered conventionally attractive but it's a bit like my brain goes 'I have no idea what to do with this info'

But yeah idk it was just after a while it was like 'Yeah ace seems to check out, that feels right ok we'll run with that' and like nothing's made me feel like my label needs to shift in the years since.

As to the NSFW thing, I mean idk it took me a while to be comfortable around NSFW content but for me I think that was more a 'sheltered upbringing with religious undertones' thing (also the religious stuff also did factor into why it took me quite a while to actually realise I was ace because like I'd grown up with the background radiation that's like 'nope nope don't think about sex, don't talk about sex, don't talk about dating one day you get married to the person god finds you' around me even if my church wasn't like super duper strict on that front)

Like for me it's sort of like NSFW content just doesn't bother me that much, I find writing it/thinking about it for otps/fictional characters is just like another factor of character development for me and it's just like fun to indulge in sometimes and just sex is kind of interesting as a concept/topic like any other thing I could learn about. Also like tbh exploring this stuff in a fictional context is like a safe way to like get into content like this and it's like on my own terms and my own boundaries etc rather than getting put in uncomfortable situations

I don't think it's so much a factor for me but iirc one way this can go down is with a term called autochissexual. I think it's still a used term but then it might not be, you might need to do a bit more digging maybe try the blog fuckyeahasexual as I'm like a bit out of the loop on current stuff since tbh I'm not like a asexuality educator

On the Sex Positivity thing, that's like a term that's easily confused, this isn't my graphic but this should clear it up:

So you can be like a Sex Positive person who is also an Sex Repulsed Ace if that makes sense?

uh tldr: basically sex doesn't bother me I just don't really have any interest in like pursuing it personally but will explore it in like a fictional context? If that makes sense.

I / HAS TUMBLR CAUSED YOU TO STOP LIKING ANY FANDOMS hmmm this is a strange answer because i think what the question is really asking is "has fandom caused you to stop liking any fandoms, and if so, which and why." there's one fandom that i stopped liking because i didn't like the fandom (torchwood), but in those days fandom was mostly on livejournal. & there's one fandom where fandom as expressed by tumblr drove me out of being active in it (mcu), but i still like it & would like to go back to it some day.

re:torchwood, it was a fandom that trashed a canon female love interest a lot for a male character who was, in retrospect, pretty plain, though he was canonically sleeping with the hero. (was it love? is jack harkness even capable of loving men who aren't the doctor? who knows.) & i was at an age where that was very attractive because of internalized misogyny reasons, and i got sucked in headfirst. torchwood was probably my first fandom where people engaged with the canon through shipping and nothing else, there was barely any genfic (in my recollection of this particular time) and that was very unusual to me as well. i didn't like the vibe of canon and in fact this was the very first fandom i engaged with without having seen most of the source material, the BNFs were very aloof & also all knew each other & i remember feeling very small and lurker-y, & i was constantly reading genuinely terrible fic in my desire to see gwen get bashed. honestly it's a wonder that i spent so long in it now that i think about it. (in spite of this paragraph, i'm sure torchwood fans are lovely people, and that the fandom has changed a lot since i was in it, around like 2009. it just was not the right fandom for me at that time, & my interpretations of the torchwood characters is forever colored by those interactions.)

re:mcu... look, i lived through the sherlock fandom at the height of the johnlock conspiracy & came away thinking that most accounts of how crazy the fandom were at that time were wildly overblown. the mcu fandom, immediately before and immediately after civil war, was much, much worse.

Q / A SHIP YOU’VE ABANDONED hmm, i don't know if i really... abandon ships? like, even with torchwood, although the whole of canon & fandom has lost its shine for me, i still, like, vaguely ship janto, & another fandom that i abandoned (not because of the fandom but because the canon was. problematique.), if you made me, i would admit i still ship my original otp. i was talking with someone last night, though, about how i've outgrown writing obligatory heterosexual pairings to align with characters' "canon" sexualities. so... i've abandoned, like, the concept of het ships? if i have a ship & they happen to be het it's probably because i found something really compelling about them to offset the hetness (faithshipping!! 😂). another thing that changes more often than what i ship is how i ship it, the character dynamics i like writing and reading.

uh, maybe crowstiel from supernatural. by the time they started interacting again in s10 after cas’s betrayal of dean for crowley in s6, it was clear that the vibe the writers were going for was not "bitter exes" but "bitter exes of the same man who hate each other." (still ship it though!!)

T / ANY HEADCANONS YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING ahhh this is another hard one! (all of these are hard!) because i am a very big proponent of having flexible headcanons. it is important to me that all of my fics take place in visibly different universes! that a character never has the same hobbies twice, or the same made-up sibling names, or the same adaptation of their canon backstory. (i tend to have more like. actual fact hills to die on.) however, these are five immutable facts of the universe:

izayoi aki tops, except with divine, which is another reason that relationship is toxic [yu-gi-oh! 5d's]

merlin literally fucked up his own destiny because he loved arthur too much (i swear i posted about this before? apparently not) [bbc merlin]

magneto has super-complicated feelings about the twins not really being his children. was he a dick to them? super mega yes. is the party line for mutants now that cosplaying your mutant status is like the worst thing you can do, even if unintentiontally? yes. does he still love them & his almost-grandchildren? yes. steve rogers was born in 1920 at the earliest and my personal preference is 1922 or 1923 even though i know this directly contradicts "canon"; therefore he is the youngest member of the avengers until wanda & pietro (and technically vision) [mcu]

in the good mcu that lives in my head (not something i would want to see in canon unless very thoughtfully done for the reasons discussed here), wanda & pietro are romani and jewish and definitely, 100%, did not "volunteer" for hydra experiments [mcu]

Although I do understand where this comes from, I feel like I need to clarify a few things. Especially since I'm afraid there may be more people who think this way and I wouldn't want that.

Concerning the part about "Sana knows what she wants and who she wants." I feel like it's the other way of saying, "don't erase Malik from the narrative." First of all, I never said a bad word about Malik nor Sana/Malik as a ship. Quite contrary, you'll find me saying, "Malik is such a sweetheart," even in my latest ask. He is my favorite Yusef character, and I think he's a good match for Sana. Nevertheless, I also believe I have the freedom of shipping whoever I want to. I am a multishipper, I ship multiple ships at the same time. It means I can ship Elia/Sana, but I can ship Elia/Filippo or Sana/Malik as well with the same or similar intensity. It is natural for me, putting many different characters together because I simply think they'd be interesting to see them as a couple. I know who Sana canonically wants, but it doesn't stop me from shipping her with other characters just for fun. It's like Filippo, Dario, and Elia in season 3. I did recognize they're together and happy, I had nothing against Dario, but it didn't stop me from shipping Elippo. Because I don't view shipping as "these two characters HAVE TO be together and I'll die if they won't." I see it as "I like these characters and I think they'd be interesting together." I ship for fun. You'll see me shipping different characters. I ship Elia/Sana AND Elia/Filippo, Sana/Malik. I ship Gio/Eva AND Gio/Sofia. I ship Silvia/Luca, but honestly, I think Elia/Silvia would be interesting too. That's what I do. Multishipping for fun.

(Plus, I won't hide it, Elia is my favorite character. Hence, I'm shipping him with many characters. Elia nad Filippo? OTP. Elia and Sana? Adorable and interesting. Elia and Silvia? It'd be kinda cute. Elia and Eva? Hot and interesting. Elia and Federica? Unexpected yet intriguing. Elia and Federico? Damn, why not? I just think Elia would be interesting with so many characters. Basically, I think I don't ship Elia only with Contrabbandieri and Emma.)

About "fix-it fics." I've never written any. All I did was writing one Sana/Elia fic, which was set BEFORE the season 4, and it was ONE-SIDED. Another one I planned, and it was a fic which was supposed to give Elia and Sana a closure, I wanted to have this "Elia confesses to Sana the one last time, she sees that he's serious and rejects him once again, they have a serious talk and come to terms." That's it. I haven't planned any "Sana dumps Malik and gets together with Elia" fics. I didn't even know there are any! The only two Sana/Elia fics I've seen were both pre-canon, not fix-it. And one of them was mine!

Now about "shipping Sana/Elia just to make Elia happy." That is definitely not what I wanted to convey. I always highlight that I find their dynamics interesting. That's exactly what I said in one of my recent asks. That I find the contrast of their characters interesting, and I think they'd help each other develop in many different directions. I don't ship them just because "that's what Elia wants." I ship them because I think they have a lot of potential together. I ship them because (as I mentioned before, I believe) I love this kind of ships. Smart, witty girl and laid-back, sarcastic guy. I love sassy couples. I never shipped them just because that was what Elia wanted. I ship them because I like both of these characters separately and I think they'd develop interestingly together.

I hope it's all clear now. And please, don't think I hate Malik or something. I love him with my whole heart. I had a whole lot of problems with OG Yusef, but Malik? I adore him! I always rant to my sister irl about how perfect he is. Besse basically fixed everything I disliked in Yusef and made Malik such a perfect guy I truly adore. And I think he's perfect for Sana. They're, like, filling all these little gaps in each other. They are insanely cute. I actually belong to the minority which believes their first date was perfect. But I also believe that shipping is something to do for fun, and me being fascinated with the concept of Sana/Elia doesn't mean I don't ship Malik/Sana nor that I'm anti-Malik.

I hope it'll change your mind. If not, I'm open to further discussions. I can elaborate on some things that are still unclear.

01 made sure that I don't care one bit about characters that don't give a single f*ck about a traumatized victim of decade long abused. Horobi had nobody caring about him all this time, his own son offered him on a silver platter to the Ark, Aruto thinks yelling at him to snap out of the hacking will do. And then Aruto is sad over his pet AI being stupid and suddenly everyone is up in arms and ready to jump in and help him cheer up again. Give me a break.

… I will forever keep pre-ep 42 Fuwa safely in my heart. That guy out there isn’t my Fuwa. My Fuwa is safe. -_-

It’s very… Questionable.

Like. If anyone had tried to do anything help Horobi earlier, we wouldn’t be in this situation. It’d be so much less messy and destructive. It’d’ve been actual work, but, like. It would have literally been easier.

I’ve said before that I feel like they switched the cores of Horobi and Gai’s stories, and I super still feel that. Esp given the loss of episodes, they really should have stuck w/ having the Ark as the final villain, maybe have her take over Gai forcibly, I dunno. Maybe have Gai cause the situation? I know the point they’re trying to go for is that ‘HumaGear/AI can do bad to!’ (maybe?), but we had that w/ the Ark. Like… They could absolutely still have done Horobi struggling w/ getting free, him still having resentment towards humans, but having humans reach out and help him, prove their goodness by taking the time to reach out to the biggest victim who has been the most consumed by the Ark’s influence. Like, Horobi did wrong things under the Ark’s control. He’s been completely under her control and influence for decades. Like I just ranted about, he’s been conditioned, he literally doesn’t know how to handle emotions, or even what morals are. But humans should know better, esp ones who allegedly work w/ AI. Them defying the Ark’s claims and doctrine by reaching out to him and helping him, despite everything, would have been a great moment.

Like… I do understand Aruto being super upset about what happened. Despite the issues I have w/ how it was presented, he and Izu were close. Of course he’d be mad. What bothers me is the attitude that he’s the only victim who is behaving irrationally bc of grief and pain. The way all the stops are getting pulled out to ‘save him.’ I’d feel a lot more sympathetic towards him if I felt like they were recognising Horobi’s mental state at the same time. Like I went to in my giant ramble, Horobi didn’t seek out Izu and gun for her, she sought him out when he was already volatile and in an extremely high intensity situation, which had already been escalated (by humans), and continued pressuring him until he snapped.

Aruto being upset about her death is one thing. Like… Okay. They were close. I do give that. It’s the attitude that only Aruto is the tragic one here. This should at the least be treated as a double tragedy.

That’s why Raiden going to Horobi, however I think he went about it in a not really great way, was really powerful, esp compared w/ a lot of… Other out of character behaviour we saw in the ep.

Like. Just imagine if we’d had Fuwa recognising that his aggressive behaviour played a part in this (while I do have to admit that, after Okada’s explanation and seeing a more direct translation, it feels more like a blunder Fuwa would make if confronted w/ that situation, the fact that he was the only one Horobi asked, making it clear Horobi wanted to hear his answer, bc Horobi doesn’t ask, last him he did, he got tortured, only to be told ‘I’m here to destroy you’… Fuwa may not have meant it that way, but Horobi was not in a state where he’d be able to understand the nuance, and that def contributed to over-stressing him and then Izu’s pushing put him over the edge much easier), him recognising that and then trying to at least partially make it right, take a different approach, go to Horobi and try to back Raiden up on stuff. Like… How cool would that have been? Fuwa getting a moment of realising his reckless, angry, head-on style caused damage and contributed to this situation, so, bc he’s a human who can recognise that, he’s going to go to Horobi and address it. Fuwa allegedly learned that shooting first isn’t the best answer, it would have been really cool and effective to see him trying to take the time to impart that knowledge to someone else, to try and reel back and think and strategise. Maybe he could have tried to confront both of them.

(and then the other part of that scene… Was just… So painfully ooc…)

I mean, I know Aruto is the main character, but there’s a line between ‘this is the main character’ and… This. Like, if there was any clear recognition for Horobi’s suffering at all, this would have a different tone. One person’s suffering doesn’t make another person’s less. They could still focus on how Aruto is hurt while recognising what Horobi went through. But the fact that it’s to the point that they might have (I dunno, I heard this second hand, I don’t have any subs) only started trying to raise Jin to benefit Aruto, rather than focusing through reaching Horobi… Well, if that is the case, it very much gives the air of ‘oh, it’s all fine if we just ‘erase’ the human’s ‘crime!’’ And the idea that that would make Aruto killing Jin and Horobi having to watch him die ‘okay.’ It’s the same as not recognising Gai shooting Naki bc they ‘came back.’ The trauma is still there. Honestly, I half expect, if Izu gets brought back, the people would immediately be like ‘killing Jin (and Naki) wasn’t that bad bc they came back’ would immediately be like ‘oh poor Izu that must have been so traumatising for her.’

Okay, I’m being really harsh, I’m just really frustrated.

I really care about this series. Like, despite the fact that he can’t write character relationship development to save his life, Takahashi makes me fall in love w/ characters like no other. This cast has been such troopers, so stellar. I hold absolutely nothing against any of them. Igeta and Nakayama are legends and I’m proud of them.

I talk shit, but I know it’s just a tv show, I just get very emotional. And the fact is, Horobi (and esp his relationship w/ Fuwa) ended up becoming really important to me over the course of the show. HoroFuwa’s my first real… Well… It’s hard to explain, but they are like. My first ‘official’ otp. I’m not a big shipper, and I’ve struggled w/ the concept of romantic stuff in regards to my own identity in the past, I’ve always had a weird feeling of being ‘ashamed’ for thinking about that stuff. And it was HoroFuwa and a bloody kissing scene I wrote on new years that really just… It meant a lot to me, I feel like I became more comfortable w/ myself bc of them.

Which is totally not what you wanted on your Ask, sorry. ^^; I’m just trying to explain why I, personally, get so riled up. Ultimately, the show owes me nothing, I am nowhere near the target audience. But for someone whose depression often manifests as apathy… When I care, I care. So it’s… It’s been a ride. To say the least.

favorite thing about them

first of all: the fact that Green canonically has a rivals to best friends arc with Red fills me with so much joy and YES they are on their alolan honeymoon you cannot convince me otherwise

okay like. gen 1 Green just perfectly encompasses what it’s like to be a ten year old in a way? like ofc he’s written like a kid bc he is a kid, but i feel like the writing on him just feels so genuine as compared to some of the other 10 yr old rivals you get in other regions. even though he’s kinda a brat at the start, he kinda eases up a bit as you go along your journey and starts giving you progressively nicer/more praise-y end lines when you beat him (going from “i picked the wrong pokémon!” to “so, you are ready for boss rocket!”) but still retains this childlike rivalry and competitiveness and i love that about him

and like. fucking beating him at the Indigo League still completely breaks my heart because even after he did become the champion at age 10 the first thing that happens is you beat him and Prof Oak just yells at him for being bad at things and like. ow.

this is why i headcanon that Red actually took awhile longer to get to Green like please. please give my boy a chance to be happy and proud

also Red was caught up with Team Rocket anyway so i imagine he must’ve fallen a little behind at some point? anyway

the development on him across regions is so choice!!! he’s so much more mellow and even kinda melancholic when you find him in gsc/hgss, like he’s calmed down over a few years and he obviously misses Red so much but like, it’s clear that Red is kinda the reason Green does settle down and he seems to have worked on his character and become a nicer person - and he still has that sassy flair to him! he’s just got that gradual slope from asshole rival to kinda aloof gym leader to friendly/sassy battle legend and aaaaa i love my boy so MUCH

also huge point: he’s so fucking driven??? he’s got the most drive and the most passion for battles/pokémon in general out of all the rivals i feel. he’s only closely matched by Silver, but Silver seems to be more aggressive than passionate, and somewhat out of necessity too (like, Giovanni abandoned him what was he to do), whereas Green just really like. he genuinely just cares so much about battles and about pokémon in general! he literally calls you in hgss and just rants about how many different kinds of pokémon there are in the world!!!

also in Alola he’s like???? just so sweet?????? he congratulates you and is like hey you’re really strong lets battle like!!!!!!!!! supportive boy!!!!! he has come so far over so many generations and i cry

also on Four Island when you play frlg he legitimately says “Be smelling ya!” when he leaves and how do you not love this idiot

Green has all this energy and all this spunk and Red is just like… so opposite of him y'know? he’s quiet and he’s more measured in his behavior i feel, he doesn’t really rush into things as much, and yet they both really just took Kanto by storm when they were kids, and i like how they have this foil dynamic and are both still so successful? they’re so different and they complement each other in that way, and they both find success in their own ways

while Red is still living on Mount Silver, Green is not coping well with having him so far away, and so Green massively overworks himself to the point that he keeps just not being in his gym sometimes bc he’s bouncing between the gym, training multiple teams, pokémon research, and ofc going to visit Red whenever he can. this leads him to be kinda temperamental after he’s been working on 2 hours of sleep a day for like a week until he just has an emotional meltdown and crashes, and then he gets right back into it because he has no self preservation

look i’ve played through classic red version a few times and when i say he wasn’t that much of a jerk, i do genuinely mean he was not that much of a jerk. he’s like ten. ten year olds are just Like That. i guess this isn’t too unpopular anymore but it was Back In The Day and in some parts of the fandom he’s still seen as a jerk and like Bro He Is Ten In RGB/FRLG cut him some slack

favorite thing about them

by now i guess you know im a sucker for character development, but i think they did a really good job with her!! i feel like her turn is a bit more in moments than it is with Green, who gradually evolves (lol) over the course of Kanto/all the gens overall. you see more discrete moments where Lillie starts to shift and gain confidence in herself and i am so proud of her ???? like the way she gets excited when she sees Olivia doin’ her z-move stuff, she starts buying her own clothes and getting ahead of you, etc etc

and like, she still has moments where she’s scared, there’s still some fundamental Lillie in there yknow? you don’t lose any of that softness that characterizes Lillie, she just like… she gets better, she develops without losing her Lillie vibe and i love that abt her. she overcomes a lot of the shit she had to deal with when she was stuck with Lusamine, she stands up to Lusamine eventually, and ghfdkjsg gah she’s a sweet gorl i love and appreciate her

also like. the writing on her backstory is so subtle in-universe. like yeah she literally looks like Lusamine’s daughter and you see her in the opening cutscene leaving Aether, but as the protagonist - like as Selene lets say, there’s little hints about where Lillie came from, and if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in the pc’s shoes, there’s subtly to her character arc that i like

also like. when she changes her outfit and starts being more protagonist-y, like more confident and kinda bubbly instead of shy??? love that shit it’s so cute can i have custody of this child pls

i like. sometimes feel like she’s too soft of a character for me to really get into? like i love her and Hau, they’re sweet good friends, but i tend to personally gravitate towards characters that create a little more tension (ie Green and N)

(though on that note, Hau can be kinda savage. he just calls Faba out and sarcastically calls Gladion “a ray of sunshine” at some point i think?? Lillie is just very tender and i will support her forever, but i think that also makes her almost too soft to keep me fixated on her yknow. it’s not even a flaw in her character but just not something i fawn over as much)

like that ending kills me but that line almost feels like. I Feel That So Much like i feel so happy to have met all these new characters and to have played these games, and i feel like some of the player’s energy and enjoyment of the game is channeled into this last line of hers

You are very welcome, nonny. Both for the writing compliment, and the ace-appreciation. 💕 That was such a niche fic concept, I wasn’t at all sure anyone else was going to read it, and then it got such a lovely enthusiastic reception, it kind of made my year. I wrote the weird thing and people like it?! Usually my niche interests stay niche! Like, I get some lovely feedback, and I absolutely will write over 130k words of my semi-unpopular OTP, or do an AU tangent of an already kind of AU video-game protagonist, for those six people who like them (I’ve done it before), but it’s exciting when the thing you weren’t sure about clearly resonates.

I have, over the years, come to self-identify as sort of ‘vaguely on the ace spectrum’ but not anything more specific, because more than that is... difficult. Even when I had an (in every other aspect) good therapist, there was still, when talking around my assorted relationship issues, a clear assumption regarding, hmm. Allosexuality? The universal positive of a sex life. IDK quite how to say it. But obviously SEX, you know? And she might have surprised me if I’d brought it up, but I never felt like I safely could. Which does mean, even if I hadn’t moved, we’d probably gotten as far into my therapy as we could, because if I couldn’t trust her with that? *shrugs*

I mean, I hope it’s clear that Fuller’s family is also homophobic, but they knew how to perform approval for that: I’m not homophobic, I have a gay friend! kind of people. But asexuality is just entirely incomprehensible and thus to them it’s irrelevant. Which is where I find a lot of aphobia hits, (and biphobia too, tbqh, tho in a different way) and where it hurts. It’s not even that someone says you’re wrong, that it’s wrong, it’s that to a lot of people it’s not real. Which means, to them, you’re not real. And that’s a slippery sort of agony, it’s hard to get a handle on. Not worse than any other sort of bigotry, but it is different.

Different sorts of pain still count? I guess that’s kind of the theme of a lot of my writing.

Personally, I would say no. Because I absolutely LOATHE the term. Seriously. I don’t think there’s a term in fandom speak I hate more than crackship and crackfic. It’s so... disrespectful.

It means you’re not taking it seriously. And by calling a ship a crackship, you’re basically ridiculing people who do ship it. Writing fics about pairings you don’t even really ship and calling them crackships is... I legit don’t understand why someone would waste their time with doing such a thing and I find it personally offensive.

Seriously, that fic can look as intriguing as possible, but if the author deemed to tag it as a “crackfic”, I will not touch it. I do not appreciate that kind of attitude.

Just because it’s stupid and ridiculous to some doesn’t mean it actually is stupid and ridiculous. Some beautiful shiny rarepairs regularly get called “crackships” just because... what? The vast majority who are sheep and only follow the canon and mainstream ships can’t imagine it?

And if those people, with that attitude, write about it like “lol the ship’s ridiculous anyway so the fic’s ridiculous too and ‘I dunno what this is lmao’“... that actually, genuinely makes me mad. I’ve literally seen fics for ships I love tagged as crack and with additional tags like that ‘I dunno what this is lmao’ and shit and it makes me as the shipper actually feel offended.

So, no. I have never written a crackfic, because when I actually take the time outta my schedule to write a fic, I do it with care and dedication. I take it seriously, I write it because I like it and because it makes me happy and even in the rare instances where I wrote ships I don’t sail for other people, I still approached them with the utmost respect and the mindset of treating it like this is a legitimate ship, despite how ridiculous/weird it is to me personally.

(Well, that was a lotta venting. But I have strong feelings on this topic, as a person who has a lot of shiny rarepairs and is really fed up and tired with people making dumb posts and tags acting like my OTPs are ridiculous and ‘crack’... =_=)

*clears throat* I mean, I love “Written in the Stars”, my only original story I am currently working on, but... I... I gotta admit that for me a thriving force that makes me write are feedback and reviews.

Like, getting a shit-ton of comments on “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful”? Immediately inspires me to sit down and write the next chapter.

With the original story, ah, let’s just say in recent chapters interest has gone back. And I gotta admit, I do link interest with quality. And my self-esteem onto that. :D”““

I do occasionally create worlds and characters for stories that will never be written - like, factually never written simply because the world-building and character-design are the most fun parts about creating own stories. And those, I guess I balance very well.

But the actual working on the story is... I... *shrugs awkward* I’m not too good at that, I guess? If people don’t pay much attention to it, neither will I, because I’m a bad person whose own interest is directly linked to the interest of others. *ducks head*
