the frenemies of all time
it was so hard to find pictures of them in the same shots 😭 they're in the same scenes all the time but not the same shots- i think it's actually a purposeful choice by the animators to show they're not actually allied, which i think is cool

Buckle up bc this is gonna be heavy
Imagine an “It’s a Wonderful Life” type TLG fanfic/episode (ik ik cliche much?) where Jasiri starts having doubts about being an under-appreciated ruler of the Outlands after a particularly bad day. She doesn’t wish that she was never born, but she DOES start to wonder if she made the right choice of agreeing to the role of Prime Minister. Cue Ushari’s ghost visiting her in her dreams and telling her how the Outlands would be worse without her ruling it, and it soon devolves to what an alternate world would look like without her in it
-Without her, Kion’s perception of hyenas wouldn’t have changed and he wouldn’t have learned “Sisi ni Sawa”. Not only him, but she showed a lot of animals how there were good hyenas
-Not only has she saved Janja’s life multiple times, but she changed his views on life in general. He would have never started respecting the circle of life. At the most, he’d probably be dead and his boys would follow through without a leader
-Janja may have told Kion how to defeat Scar, but it was really her who convinced everyone to actually listen to him in the first place
-Life would have definitely been harder for her clan if she was never born. Madoa wouldn’t have a shoulder to cry on or anyone to assure her that the clan will get through their hardships. Hell, I don’t know if Wema and Tunu would have made it without her since she always put their needs over hers
-The rest of the Outlanders would have never had another chance had she not been a prime minister
-Reirei and her pack wouldn’t have accepted to respect the circle of life and would have been worse off had they moved
-Kiburi’s float would have stayed independent…and that would have been their downfall. Unlike the Pridelands, the Outlands have less food and water. Because of Kiburi’s pride, he wouldn’t think or trust anyone to ask for help and his float would have been starving and dehydrated. This would lead to arguments and Kiburi pushing his friends away…eventually, for good
-Mzingo would have tried to rule the Outlands, but no one, except for his parliament, would listen to him. Not even the hyenas. This would make him give up and flee the lands in search for a better life, leaving the animals they raised to fend for themselves without their wisdom
-The skinks would have stayed cold and bitter about Scar and Ushari’s deaths. If not for Jasiri’s idea to reform, all they’d be to the rest of Africa was another food option, since they wouldn’t meet Kenge or Sumu to protect them
-Speaking of Kenge and Sumu, she’s been their therapist. She listens to their problems and she’s taught them that not everyone is bad. Without her rule, the two wouldn’t have pushed themselves to be better animals and instead be all alone and bitter, the both of them dying emotionally AND physically
It could be the same for Kiburi as well. Maybe he’s tired of messing up or he doesn’t believe that he could really change because of all the bad things he’s done. But believe it or not, he’s done a lot of good things without even realizing it and the world would kind of suck if he had never been born:
-Piga would have never genuinely smiled or have his spirits lifted, not even with Ucheshi. Kiburi is his pride and joy and had he never existed, Piga simply wouldn’t have been happy. And to add on, Piga would be much harder on his kids, with Ucheshi being effected the most
-Ucheshi may be the exact opposite of Kiburi and he HAS said things like “How are we related?”. But he has never EVER encouraged her to change who she was. Kiburi is the reason she’s so happy and free, because he let her be herself. Piga wasn’t like that. Under his rules, she would have lost her spirit and become cold and untrustworthy, making others cry instead of laugh. Not to mention, Kiburi played a role in her and Makuu’s love story. His banishment and their argument was essentially the cause of them falling on love, with Makuu comforting Ucheshi and Ucheshi making Makuu laugh, which made him develop feelings for her and show his tender side. Have I mentioned how close they are? Like Kiburi is genuinely a good brother to her
-Tamka wouldn’t be accepted for who he is. Everyone judged him, everyone dismissed him for lacking intelligence. But not Kiburi. Kiburi was the first friend Tamka ever made and who didn’t seem to judge him, thus why he remained loyal. Tamka wouldn’t have anyone to really depend on without him
-Oh Nduli….poor poor Nduli. His life would have been miserable if he never met. Kiburi was the one Nduli really looked up to, the one who was always so nice and welcoming when he first hatched. It was Kiburi who convinced Piga to take him in after Kinywa died, it was Kiburi who cared for him most of his life, and it was Kiburi who promised that nothing bad was going to happen to him no matter what. Who knows what would happen to him without the best croc in his eyes?
-Neema wouldn’t have anyone to appreciate his intelligence. Sure, he’d follow Makuu and he’d still live in the Pridelands with Tamka and Nduli, but he wouldn’t be happy about it. He always really sided with Kiburi about a lot of things, he just kept quiet about it.
-If you think about it, Kiburi’s the reason Makuu turned out to be such a great leader. As hatchlings, Kiburi was Makuu’s greatest support system ever since he said he wanted to be the next leader. Makuu beating Kiburi proved to be good sparring practice and he used those skills to win the mashindano. Even after the friendship ended, he still inadvertently helped Makuu grow, with him repeatedly defeating Kiburi proving his development to the members that were still wary of the new change in leadership.
-Hodari would have never joined Makuu’s float. Hodari helped Makuu defeat Kiburi with a hurt leg and that got him to be an honorary crocodile. Without him, the rejection would have destroyed his lively, happy-go-lucky personality over time with broken dreams
-Even though it was Makuu who used to idolize Pua, not even he took some of his lessons to heart like Kiburi did. It’s subtle, but Pua can tell when someone listens to his advice and he appreciates that. It’s the little things that keep Pua going :)
-Kiburi didn’t think anything of it, but calling Kenge “big” did something to the lizard. The only other animals who did that were ones (mostly reptiles) that were smaller than him, but to have someone bigger say it so casually, it hit different. For the first time, Kenge felt truly validated. He got to be seen as an equal and that wouldn’t have been possible if Kiburi didn’t exist
-Hukumu would have kept thinking that bad/evil animals don’t change for the better, but when she met Kiburi…that changed. It was understandably hard for her to accept that her love wasn’t…the best crocodile, but he proved that he changed since then
-Wakali’s simple. Without a father to adopt and love her, she wouldn’t be alive
-Oh and Hatari would still be alive and have eventually killed all the crocodiles in the Pride Lands. His crocodile-hating reign of terror wouldn’t have ended if Kiburi wasn’t there to stop him. Not to mention the effect the lack of crocodiles would have in the circle of life
-If there’s one good thing that Kiburi is constantly doing, it’s how he ALWAYS has his friends’ backs. How he’s so protective over them and deep down, just wants everyone to be treated right. Before the dry season, all of his intentions were good. He just went about it via the crocodile way bc that’s how he was raised
Jasiri ends up getting an appreciation party for all the stuff she goes through and Kiburi comes back feeling more grateful about where he is now

Hey so remember that au I was planning on making with an oc I made a while ago, well here it is. I’m calling it The Lost Not Found AU, I’m probably not going to do too much with it other than some doodles here and there with a few bits of lore sprinkled around. Other than that just a fun little prequel au that I had fun with coming up idea’s, head canons, etc for all of the pre hotel versions of the characters. ^ ^
~~~
Jack Bufton
A shrewd lawyer who thinks way too highly of himself. Egotistical and a bit of a perfectionist, Jack seems to take pleasure in quite literally judging others while somehow able to be correct and suspiciously have evidence to prove otherwise. Jack enjoys many luxuries of goods, cleanliness and many more due to the success of his career, so it’s quite the surprise to find him at Gregory’s Hotel. During his stay he seems to start having the habit of talking to himself while isolating himself from the rest of the other guests. It seems while Jack loves to judge and criticizes others, his own bad habits seem to leak out. Quite hypocritical of him.
Catherine Caudata
A hopeless romantic with an interest in needles, Catherine takes her job seriously and passionately, sometimes getting a bit too excited. While concerned and a bit horrified at the horrors in the hotel and her arrival at the hotel is just as a mystery like everyone else’s, However at her stay she does try her best to help the other guest but when an unfortunate accident happens she tends to get a bit too excited when blood appears. During her stay overtime, Catherine’s skin starts getting itchy, flaky and even turning pink. Her hair falling out and teeth getting sharper, as terrifying as it is, it’s hard for her to try and stop her transformation when blood looks so appealing.
Hugh Cook
A professional chef, passionate in his work and struggles a bit with anger management. Hugh’s patients are very tested at the hotel from any minor inconvenience to the other guest pestering him. The reason for the mask Hugh wears is mainly because Hugh doesn’t emote as much which causes others around him to assume he’s constantly angry. While that is somewhat true, Hugh is usually calm when things are in order. Fortunately at least for Hugh there is an empty kitchen at the hotel to keep him busy, as long as you don’t smoke and stay out of his kitchen you should at least be on his good side. During his stay his anger boils over more and more and is starting to threaten the other guest, something about killing and cooking them for his next dish.
Carlo Gunman
A poor marksman and runway leader in a revolution, Carlo seems to make his way to the hotel after running away. Despite the situation he’s in, Carlo tries his best to be optimistic and distract himself and the other guests in challenges or even showing off his marksmanship, even if he’s not so great at it. Out of all the other guests Carlo is the more friendly one even trying his best to keep the group sane and defuse arguments to some extent. During his stay, his skin is starting to turn green, spines start sticking out of his skin and they hurt to get out. Things are starting to look a bit woozy from his perspective.
The Lost Guest
Nothing is really known about them, their past, their face, how they ended up at the hotel, nothing. However while trying to find clues about their own past TLG tries to help the other guest with their own, maybe even trying to give some advice and help so they can all try to get out of the hotel alive. But I think we all know how that is going to end.
the lions in tlg/tlk come off as incredibly racist I mean, Jasiri is shown to be a good hyena and she still lives on the outlands, even at the end when Janja redeemes himself they all still live at the outlands?? Jasiri ends up as the leader of the outlands, why? why not just… invite her and the others to the pridelands maybe?? the lion guard even tried to vanish aardwolves into the outlands just for "looking like" hyenas (even tho they are) even in the first movie, the hyenas are literally starving, its honestly no wonder they want to kill Mufasa's racist lion ass. We are shown they over hunted yes but that was because Scar's rule, had Mufasa controlled them they wouldn't have over hunted and could live in the pridelands right?? I'm honestly scared over the Mufasa "live action"
oh and the whole leopard thing in tlg (really nice Bunga redesign btw he looks way better)
Honestly, I think that is probably one thing about Jasiri's character that bugs me A LOT. That she is a "Good" hyena but is still subjected to live in the shithole that is the Outlands even after the series was over because I guess as a hyena that is where she and her kind "belongs". At least let her live in the backlands where there is plenty of food and water for pete sake. I know she claim that is her "home" and all, but it's only a home she has because her entire species was banished and now thanks to the "Circle Of Life", she isn't allowed to live anywhere else. And completely ignoring how the show wants to convince you that Aardwolves aren't hyenas, that episode in general made absolutely no sense if you start asking questions like.... -"Why didn't Simba bother mentioning to Kion and friends about the Aardwolves and inform them to leave them alone should they come across them?"
-"How is Kion more familiar with the tracks of an animal that supposedly hasn't lived in the Pridelands to the point animals OLDER than him don't recognize them but isn't at all familiar with a animal that has been living there for god knows how long?"
-"No one question that the "spotted hyenas" are suddenly a drastic different size?"
"If the Aardwolves are described as lurking around Aardvark dens a lot, how did none of the aardvarks recognize them??"
"Why is Simba so consistently shit at communicating important information with his son??"
And loads more, but this post is already getting long enough. Ironically, I didn't hate that episode. I did enjoy the snark from the Aardwolves all things considered but that episode should have never happened.
Rare Pair
You know what is a good rare pair crack ship? The one where the two BARELY had any interaction at all?
Yue Qingyuan and Tianglang-Jun.
Here me out;
They have a history, Yue Qingyuan sealed Tianglang-Jun with other peak lords in the past but the two don't know each other or hold grudges Tianglang-jun understood it was mostly the OPM and holds no grudges. It'd be funny if he said "Ah the young man who sealed me away!" And Yue Qingyuan see's it as derogatory when realing its an endearment because demons like strength.
Number two!
Both have lost somone, Yue Qingyuan lost his Xiao Jiu long before he lost SQQ to LBH when he had his qi deviation, and Tianglang-Jun lost ZZL, given that ZZL followed Tianglang-Jun and was with him every step of the way, and TLG probs thought it would be HIM outliving his nephew, plus the survivors guilt.
Lets just say both have something in common, but Yue Qingyuan always did everything for Shen Jiu and now...he doesnt need him anymore. Meanwhile Tianglang-Jun has a nephew shaped hole and is so used to having a companion.
So it'd be funny if it started up as TLG pestered Binghe/Qingqiu coz he was bored and Yue Qingyuan ended up having to deal with him.
idk I just really like this pair, and more funny if the Sect leader is like.
"Shen Qingqiu isn't here >:("
And Tianglang-Jun says "Actually I'm here for you!"
Also Yue Qingyuan is different than Binghe/Qingqiu/Xiyan, but similair in his own way. The three are cold beauties with resting bitch faces, meanwhile Yue Qingyuan always smiles BUT he's also hard to approach, intimidating and sure he seems warm and invtiting but he's also just as closed off he just wears his face different but he's pretty similair.
So now Tianglang-jun is reading the Student/Master Qingqiu speical and of course Yue Qingyuan has an issue with it, and it can escalate from there, either Tianglang-jun teases him if he's read it.
If not he could read it outloud for the sect leader?
Basically Tianglang-jun may be older and is a coplete dilf but you bet your ass he is a teasing little shit, and is such a brat.
It'd be ironic tho if it was the DEMON that showed the human Yue Qingyuan the wonders of humanity and helps him live.
that yeah sure they're both rebounds for their own potential loved one but so what?
And tianglang-Jun will tell him that he may have been trapped under a mountain, but Yue Qingyuan was still trapped in that cave, in his mind and it was time to come out [hah lgbt closet reference lol]
Idk theres just so many parrallels and I really ship it. Don't mind me ^^;
TLG: The Lesson
It was morning. The Guard woke to find that their leader had not yet returned home like she normally would during her late-night walks. For hours they patrolled the perimeter of Pride Rock and kept watchful eyes. Tazama, the Keenest of Sight, stood on the peak of the ridge that broke up the Pridelands and the Elephant Graveyard. She spotted a hunched figure exiting the vast land of carrion.
"Hiyo Kali!" she cried, "Vitani spotted coming from the Graveyard." "What? What on earth is she doing there?" Kasi questioned before following the Guard down the ridge. Vitani's ears perked up when she heard familiar voices call her name from a distance. She saw her Guard racing for her. Imara carefully followed, trying not to put too much weight on her severely bruised foreleg. "Vitani! Where have you been?" Kasi asked, arriving first. "We were looking all over for you." Tazama added. "Yeah, we were afraid something happened to you..." Shabaha froze and arched an eyebrow, "...What's happening here?" They took notice of Vitani carrying a flaming stick. Spots of soot were scattered across her disheveled fur, and she clearly hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. "Vitani, what were you doing in the Elephant Graveyard?" Imara said, catching up with everyone. "I spent the night devising a plan to deal with that rhino, and I've got a fool-proof plan, right here." Vitani gestured to the torch, "Girls, say hello to Nuka." Shabaha loudly cackled, while Imara and Kasi exchanged concerned looks. Tazama tilted her head. "Vitani? Are you sure you didn't breathe in too many fumes in there?" Kasi leaned into Vitani's face to get a better look at her. "I'm positive!" Vitani hissed, "I summoned Nuka with my Roar last night. I don't know how, but I did! Now, where's that rhino?" "Vitani, I'm not sure this is a good day for a mission." Imara shook her head, doubtful of her friend’s health. "Where's. The rhino?" Vitani growled, having had enough. "We heard him announce some kind of gathering at Ukuni Woods this morning. Said something about a debate against the old crash leader before the next Savannah Summit, why?" Shabaha answered, unwittingly going against everyone's plan to just take Vitani home. Everyone scowled at the Bravest. "...How did you even know all of that?" Imara squinted, "You won't listen to most commands, but you'll retain all that?" "That's all I needed to hear," Vitani brushed past the Guard, "Come on, girls." "What are you planning?" Kasi asked, near-frantic. "Just leave it to me." Vitani grinned. ___ "...and as future crash leader, I promise no predator will be welcome to our expanded grazing grounds! No longer shall we be called 'prey' to anyone!" Ngurumo's voice boomed across the plains. The herbivores cheered and bellowed what sounded like war-cries. A few even shouted pejorative remarks in regards to the predators they've quickly grown to hate. The Lion Guard lied low in the tall grass, watching what they could of the densely-crowded rally. "Oh, brother. " Shabaha rolled her eyes, "What a show. The jokes really tell themselves, here, and we even got the best seat seat in the house behind a wall of hippo cheeks. The flies really add an atmospheric ambiance to the literal bull-" "Shh! you're gonna give us away!" Kasi hissed. Meanwhile, Imara silently pushed Shabaha's head below the grass' height. Vitani briefly closed her eyes and shook her head before glancing back up, "What's the path look like, Tazama? Any direction I can enter?" "A gap between two zebras just opened up northwest of us. You better decide to slip in quickly. The gap appears to be closing soon." "Super..." Vitani began moving, grabbing her stick. "So, what's the plan, Vitani? We're dying to know!" Kasi whispered. Vitani craned her head, "Like I said, leave it to me. Just stay back and listen if I need your aid, don't want anyone to get caught up in the flames, now." "Flames?!" Kasi's eyes were orbs, "What are you- Vitani!" Vitani continued to wordlessly head for the opening. She abruptly and rudely cut in between the two zebras, who scowled in offense. "I'll be accepting your questions, now." the rhino stood tall. "I got one." Everyone turned to the lone lioness amongst the crowd. Gasps and mutters filled the plains. "Are you going to close this charade down and abide by the Circle of Life's laws, or am I gonna have to put a stop to all of this, myself?" "Well, look who dropped by." Ngurumo smirked and cocked his head up tauntingly, "What're you gonna do, little girl, roar at us and harm your fellow Pridelanders?" "Worse." Vitani swiped her stick across a slab of flint, the sparks igniting it. It was now a torch. "Roho ya Moto!" she growled. Suddenly, a large flame exploded from the end of the torch. It gave a roar as a head and forepaws took form. A maniacal cackle followed. The crowd gasped and prepared to run as the spirit jarringly lunged forward. The Guard, who now had an excellent view of the affair thanks to the scattering crowd, could not believe their eyes. "Nuka?!" they all shouted in unison. "Panic and run! Panic and run!" cried Thurston. "Wh- W-What is that?" Ngurumo sputtered, unable to hide his cowering. "Your warning to stop this conspiracy you got going on. Shut this all down, or you'll be chased out of the Pridelands at your own risk." Vitani glared. "Unholy conjurer of the evil spirit! She preaches the Circle of Life, yet wants us all to burn! Get her!" Ngurumo was so fearful of the supernatural being that stood before him, that he was losing control of his thoughts now. "Are you insane?" questioned Zito, "We're not fighting her or that thing!" "So much for our brave protector." a sable antelope rolled his eyes. "What a coward!" said a gazelle, "We're out of here!" The herbivores ran for their lives. The Lion Guard was forced to leave their hiding spot as a storm of hooves nearly crushed them. Only Ngurumo was left behind. "No!! Where are you going?! We must stand together to fight!" the rhino desperately called. Ngurumo growled as he slammed his hoof to the ground. He glanced up to see the rest of the Guard gathering behind Vitani as the fire spirit whispered in Vitani's ear. "I gotta go now, my minutes are up. I think you know what to do for a nice little finale." Nuka smirked. "Sorry you're gonna miss it." his sister matched his smirk, "Girls, get behind me." The Guard, already bewildered at everything that was going on, obeyed and took a few steps back. Vitani's eyes glowed. She took a deep breath, and roared the mighty roar of thousands of lions in the sky. The winds carried the four-ton rhino like a feather, launching him far into the unknown outskirts of the Pridelands. After moments of the Guard silently glancing at the disheveled ground and dissipating clouds, Shabaha finally spoke up. "What. Was. That?!" she leapt on her forelegs, giving her signature cackle. "Vitani, we're really sorry for not believing you earlier... about Nuka..." Kasi's ears pinned back. "Oh, it's crazy to me, too." Vitani smiled proudly. Vitani's eyes became reflective thinking about how she got to see Nuka again, as well as finally overcoming a hurdle she never thought she would. Everything was coming together, under her control. She would master the power of the Roar like her predecessor had once said. She was more than content with her place in the Circle of Life, now. ___ Ngurumo shook off the dust and pain from his old bones. He didn't know where he was now, but he was never going to leave the Pridelands, not the land he'd promised to his fellow herbivores. This would not be the last of his schemes...
idea (one of many but this'll probably be the only one in your ask box): mariana and ambesh visit the kitsune kingdom dressed up for halloween as hollow knight characters. mariana is troupe leader grimm (or, better put, mommy grimm.) i mean it makes the most sense tlg is just a dad that doesnt pay child support so why not have mariana be tlg and walk around holding ambesh's hand with whatever he decides to dress up as?
He would totally dress up as The Pale King- I mean, he's got the white fur and he glows too. So, it would be pretty easy ngl.
And now for the last (for now) TLK art I currently have done - sorry for just reusing the Kion art from the last drawing, but I didn't feel like drawing that mane again.  I'll warn you now that I'll probably be reusing a lot of these for different family portrait type things. Lazy, yes, but I don't draw TLK art that often these days and these are more family/group portrait type things than full scene drawings anyway, really just there to let you compare designs.
Anyway, since I drew Kion with his siblings, it seemed only right to draw him with his Lion Guard in the first movie's art style.  So here's the Guard! I'll also go a bit into my headcanons for how I would fit TLG into my TLKverse, if I were still writing anything in my TLKverse.
Background again belongs to Disney, and was edited for use by here: www.deviantart.com/through-the… You can see them without the background here.
I very heavily referenced Fuli off the cheetah at the very beginning of the first movie, and I changed her colors and pattern to look a bit more fitting for a king cheetah, while still trying to keep her looking properly like herself. Beshte was fun to draw, I definitely wanted to get across how bloody huge and terrifying hippos are, especially since they have jagged spear teeth rather than the harmless peg teeth they're portrayed with in TLG, while still having him as his friendly happy self. I mixed elements of the second movie's hippo designs, and his TLG design. Bunga is basically the same, I just darkened his coat to look more like a real honey badger and aged him up a bit by making his eyes smaller, face longer and less rounded, and lengthening his torso. Ono's adult design is based off of the adult egrets in his flock that appear in TLG.
The one I changed the most is Anga - I really love her design, but after looking at photos of martial eagles online, and seeing both how their faces darken as they age and how they're more of a dark brown with spots than purple with little V markings, I decided to change her design to look more like a real martial eagle, while still keeping a lot of elements from her old design, mostly shape and lineart-wise.
~-~-~
Now onto my headcanons. In my imagining of things, there's no Roar of the Elders. Kion is the second son of Simba, who is working very hard to reestablish good ties with the herds after the destruction Scar wreaked on the Pride Lands. As a result, he is frequently meeting with various herds, addressing problems and building up trust, and sometimes Kion gets brought along so Simba can keep a protective eye on his beloved son. When Kion starts getting friendly with some of the young animals around the Pride Lands, someone brings up the idea of forming a new Lion Guard, but this time with animals from various herds and animals around the Pride Lands, as a sort of way of reassuring the herds that the lions weren't just going to trample all over the rest of the kingdom like they did under Scar. As stated, Simba is very eager to not piss off his still somewhat mistrustful subjects, so he agrees.
However, after the loss of his first son Kopa, Simba is very overprotective of his other two children. Kiara we see dealing with that in TLK II when she has to constantly have Timon and Pumbaa looking after her - for Kion, he was initially really excited at the idea of training to become leader of the Lion Guard - until he realized that it was just his father's way of giving him his own personal bodyguards while ensuring that his son never actually faced any danger himself. Simba helped train the Guard and pushed not-so-subtly for Kion to be protected and kept out of danger should anything actually happen. While the Guard were cubs, the positions they held were more ceremonial than anything, a way to assure the herds that they were being listened to and represented - but they were all being trained for the day that they could actually step up and take their true place as guardians of the Kingdom, and as time passed and Simba got more protective, Kion began to despair that he would ever be truly allowed to be his own lion and make his mark on the world without his father constantly trying to protect him.
Kion's friends, growing up beside him so closely, could see the effect this was having on him, and tried in whatever ways they could to make him feel better or to help him get away from his dad's protective gaze for just a little while. Bunga in particular acted obnoxious and goofy in public mostly to divert animals' attention away from Kion and to him, and to help shield his friend from the blame if anything less than perfectly safe managed to happen... better for everyone to roll their eyes and blame Bunga's incompetence for things getting out of hand, rather than Kion getting in trouble for disobeying his father's strict rules. Around his friends, Bunga was a much more mature and sympathetic indivudal. It was he alone among the Guard who knew of the hyena cubs Kion had befriended in secret, and who he met at the border often, playing games of wild adventures the Guard could go on (yes, I'm going with the "the events of the show are just games Kion plays as a kid, but his friendships with the Guard and with Jasiri are very real - Janja is Jasiri's friend who disapproves of her friendship with the lion prince, but covers up for her anyway, Jasiri and Kion make him the villain in their games mostly as a teasing joke, but they both very much care about him despite his grumbling about meeting with Kion being dangerous).
Anyway, the next bit I'm not as clear on how I imagine it happening, but when Kion's mane has just grown in (so older than he was in the show, think closer to Kovu's age in the second half of TLK II, has a full mane but still a very new adult), something happens that results in him getting the scars on his eye and Ono getting partially blinded. Kion not only has to deal with the trauma of the painful injury, but also the reaction of the rest of the Pride Lands. Simba has shielded his son so completely from any chance of danger that most of the Pride Lands don't actually know the prince that well. So all they see is another second son of a king with an eerily-familiar scar on his face, and the rumors and whispers of Kion becoming a second Scar start spreading through the Pride Lands like wildfire. Kion is horrified. He hates being compared to such an evil lion just because he has a scar on his face, and having so many mistrust and doubt him. To make matters even worse, he can't even combat the claims himself, because Simba has basically refused to let him step foot outside of Pride Rock except under heavy guard since the attack happened. He feels more trapped than ever.
That's when Bunga comes up with the idea. The Lion Guard protects the Pride Lands from intruding animals, but it's also meant to be sort of a spiritual position - they must fully understand the Circle of Life and uphold traditions and some other stuff that I haven't quite pinned down yet in my mind. Anyway, the Lion Guard is meant to complete their training with a pilgrimage to the Kingdom of the Tree of Life, where deeply knowledgeable healers live and use the unique herbs found in the kingdom to heal many ills (no magic healing here, just a lot of knowledge and herbs). The pride that lives there has a deep respect for the Circle of Life and the Great Kings of the past, and they are meant to help guide the Lion Guard in the final steps of their training. Simba will never let Kion go on such a long and dangerous journey, and the Pride Lands will never trust Kion unless he does something drastic to prove his dedication to his part in the circle of life - something drastic like traveling to the Tree of Life and completing his training. So Bunga and the rest of the Guard (and Makini) explain their idea to Kion, who hesitates over disobeying and scaring his father with his departure, but eventually agrees, desperate to finally prove himself. They sneak away, sending a bird a few days later to tell Simba why they left and what they're doing.
Stuff happens kinda similar to the show after that, but more toned down. Basically they travel to the Tree of Life, learn to love the place and the respect and ability to take on actual responsibility as a true Guard that they find there, and decide to stay permanently. Ono' eyes are never fully healed (though the healers do find ways to help restore his vision a little, mostly they help lessen his pain and help him fully recover in that sense), but he adapts well to his new role as the guard's Smartest. They never return to the Pride Lands this time, instead sending another bird to tell Simba they're staying. By this point, the whole TLK II thing has happened, so Simba is sad to lose his son but much more able to understand and respect his decision now. Kion eventually marries Rani and becomes King Consort of the Tree of Life. Simba and Nala travel to the Tree to meet their son's cubs, and Kion visits the Pride Lands to meet Kiara's cubs.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed my ramblings, and my drawing.
my top 5 lion guard characters bc idk im rooting for this show again
also uh s2-s3 spoilers of tlg
5. dhahabu
Tumblr media
honestly she’s probably one of the only few visually appealing characters and plus she’s voiced by renee elise goldsberry and i watched hamilton so 🤷‍♀️ and i stg i rewatched her song like 50 million times as a kid
4. makuu
Tumblr media
omfg before my 10 year old self used to fucking hate makuu so damn much but ever since he had a redemption arc i just loved him. he’s actually a pretty good leader and just needed people to give him a chance instead of assuming the worst will come from him just because of who he was in the past
3. ono
Tumblr media
before i didn’t rlly like him bc he was so nerdy and i didn’t rlly like that about him but ever since the time skip i just liked him more idk why and especially after that ep when ono babysits a bird i loved ono so much it was just so wholesome to see ono doing something else instead of just spitting facts at the lion guard and looking around in the sky
2. janja
Tumblr media
jesus fucking christ i am so glad he got a redemption arc bc it was great. janja was such a cool villain although i have to admit his schemes (pre scar’s revival) are so dumb and it’s no surprise how his ass gets kicked by the lion guard every single time but oh well it’s a kids show so what can i say
1. jasiri
Tumblr media
i have to fucking thank jasiri for being a good influence on janja bc it actually worked. like before i just thought to myself that there’s no way janja would ever turn to jasiri and hell maybe even fall in love with her bc all jasiri kept saying to janja was ‘si si ni sawa, we are the same’ and at first janja brushed it off as some cringey and untrue saying but at some point janja actually for once took it into consideration and when jasiri says that janja doesn’t have to side with scar janja full on hesitates for a long time but still refuses but u could tell by the sound of his voice he was very unsure. after the skinks report to scar about janja’s hesitation scar decides to throw the hyenas under the bus by misinforming them about a plan which subsequently causes the near death of janja’s clan and of course janja realizes that scar never cared for those who worked under him and in the end they were just tokens to scar’s disposal when and wherever
TLG Outlanders Jumanji AU that i have suddenly become obsessed with :) buckle up
i'm mainly basing this off of the 2017 movie, with elements of the 2019 one too
wema, tunu, dogo and kijana are playing when they find a hidden cave, they go in and they find lots of weird paintings on the wall and the floor. ever the inquisitive one, dogo steps into a circle in the middle and they all get sucked into... Jumanji?? or maybe in the TLG universe it's called Mchezo
the adults look for them. the leaders (plus kenge and sumu) and the idiots (plus mwoga, nne, tano and neema) go in two groups to search since the kids were missing for a while. the leaders find the hidden cave first as sumu noticed it in his small size. they get sucked in, and eventually the idiots find it after them
they turn into human versions upon entering the world. yeah they're pretty freaked out lmao
the premise is that they go through trials to "prove" themselves, at the risk of their 3 lives, to get to the final task of saving the kiddos. i'm thinking each of them get a task focused on their skills but all of them are at the will of it, aka any of them could lose a life in any trial
i think the Strengths & Weaknesses bit would be funny. kiburi has no weaknesses, he says smth like "I'm too good to be weak 😏" and then 'Pride' pops up hfgdhdh. tamka's weakness would be cake because i think it'd be funny. nduli's is picking up cool rocks. i would say goigoi's would be sleeping but he'd lose all 3 in an instant. the list goes on
reirei is mad because she gets the boring map-reader job lol, despite that she saves everyone's asses so
i imagine sumu is like Milo, he gives them the information in a really deadpan tone lmao. it's like "... Oh no..." "Spit it out, will you?!" "... Mandrills. We should go" and he just continues spilling knowledge while they're running for their lives lmao
you know how in the second movie Bethany/Milo is a horse? yeah nne and tano are straight up just themselves- they're hyenas but realistic, like they didn't change 💀 they're just there doing hyena laughs and absolutely savaging people in the fights
the ostrich scene from the second movie would be funny. maybe the hyenas are the drivers 👀 NONE of them trust their lives with janja, chungu or cheezi but somefuckinghow.. they don't die
in a trial where the leaders are really trapped, guess who sneaks in and saves them? Ushari!!! that was actually all of their reactions as soon as he spoke and they knew it was him. shupavu hugs him on impulse and then gets awkward about it lol, they're happy to see him
ushari explains how he didn't actually die when scar was destroyed but he escaped the volcano and happened across the hidden cave. he's been trapped ever since and obviously presumed dead. he's been stuck with 1 life because he needed the others to complete the rest of the trials :(
there's a dance fight where kiburi has to defeat the guards without being all guns blazing about it. literally the same as the scene with Martha. it's so funny at first bc he doesn't know what the fuck to do - i hc him as demi, he can't flirt with someone he doesn't know😭 - but when a song (prolly rap?) starts playing he beats their asses easy
little did they know the exact same thing was happening on the opposite side of the building, just with the idiots. tamka, nduli and neema also get their cool moment of beating people up, dance fight style! it's mainly tamka because he actually DOES have a strength in acting :)
the leaders and the idiots enter the building at the same time and it's an "Oh Shit!" spiderman pointing meme moment lmao. from this point on they do the trials together
the vultures fly the helicopters. you can imagine how well that goes. it's just like in the movie where something immediately breaks 😭 i think it'd be cool if kenge was the one to fix the helicopter, giving him a hero moment! imagine it
"Kenge, you did it! :D"
"Guess I did"
"Um... Oops"
"What Janja?"
"I dropped the jewel 😶"
"YOU WHAT?!?!"
janja loses a life in that scene from the rhinos 😭 do i wanna traumatise mzingo that much? idk. i just feel like that is such a janja thing to happen. fridge's character is janja-coded lmfao
"YOU PUSHED ME OUT THE HELICOPTER! >:("
that scene where fridge pushes spencer off a cliff? yeah that obviously happens. i'm thinking reirei and janja squabbling. would be funny if janja pushes reirei off impulsively and he just stands there, in shock, waiting to get yelled at when she respawns 😭
there's one of those Step On The Right Pieces trials. kiburi is being all cocky, steps on the wrong one and loses a life- bro gets absolutely humbled lmao. i think the skinks would be good at that trial for some reason
some random trial ideas: a "sleeping lions" type trial for goigoi. a "follow (copy) the leader" trial for mzingo. a food temptation one for the idiots??
jasiri definitely has a trial where she helps someone or shows that the "bad guy" NPCs can be good or somethin. that's probably the last trial before the finale
at the last trial they all work together to save the kiddos! it's really wholesome at the end because they saved the kids, they actually achieved something, they worked together, AND they got ushari back! :)
bonus:
based on the second movie, i was considering a different version of this au where janja purposefully enters the game to prove himself and it's more of a lesson of how it's not just about his strength, but the strength of all of them
janja just thinks he ain't good enough, especially not being leader of his clan anymore, but it's through working together when the others come after him that he realises that ain't true. just an extra thought i had :)
might make a follow up post because i came up with this in an afternoon just for fun 😭
My "Take" on Kopa's Death + HC
Am I the only one who thinks the whole "Zira killed Kopa" theory makes no sense when you look into it? Because to me, there are a lot of holes that this theory brings.
Simba was ready to kick Scar's ass when he saw him put his hands on his mother, and Nala was the first to jump at Scar when finding out he was a murdering piece of shit.
If they found out that Zira killed Kopa as retaliation for an act that he was innocent of, there would've been nothing stopping either of them from icing the bitch. And I believe that they definitely would've done more to keep Kiara safe than sending a meerkat and a warthog after her (that's not even going into how Simba would never send his young son to defend the country if he had lost his first-born to violence).
To put it simply, the way I see it, if Simba and Nala lost their son to any sort of violence or major Shakespearian-like tragedy it would've had a horrible effect on them later on.
So here's my HC on Kopa's story and his absence from the second film that I personally believe would make more sense in my timeline:
Going by human years (because I think it would be more interesting and complex for them to age like humans, and to make guessing characters' ages easier), Kopa/Fluffy would be a year older than Kiara and Kion.
Kopa was presented as the future King of the Pridelands, meanwhile Kiara was presented as the second-in-line for the throne if something happened to Kopa (girls wouldn't be allowed on the Lion Guard until Kion's leadership, but I can see Simba making an exception to present Kiara to the Pridelands).
Kion wouldn't be born until a year after that. So all 3 cubs have a one-year gap between one another:
[Events in my HC that follow come after the presentations of the two cubs we see in the films + Kion's off-screen birth, but before Kiara's first scene as a cub in TLK II]
Simba and Nala spent most of their time teaching Kopa the ways of monarchy and how to become a good King, to which Kopa was very excited to become. When Kopa was 6, he met the hyena cub, Asante, who turned out to be the daughter of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, the 3 hyenas who aided Scar in taking over the Pridelands.
Kiara, as next-in-line for the throne, and Kion, who would become leader of the Lion Guard despite not yet knowing it, would try and tag along with Kopa, but he'd often be too busy hanging out with his other friends, or being mentored by his parents + grandparents: So whilst they loved him and supported him, they were never the closest to him.
Things were relatively stable up until Kopa's 9th birthday: Kopa caught an infection (be it the flu or whatever you may). Everyone at first worked to heal him, but eventually learned that Kopa would not survive:
So ultimately, the pride had to say goodbye to Kopa and accept his loss. Obviously it wasn't easy for any of them, but they were able to slowly get over the loss, including Kopa's siblings:
No violent or sudden death. Just the Circle of Life, (at its cruelest).
Kopa and Kiara were 8 and 6 by then. Kiara would meet Kovu when she was 9 and Kion was 8. By the time Kiara and Kion were both in double-digits is when the events of TLG come up.
More thoughts on TLG episodes
The Savannah Summit:
First things first, major kudos to Makuu for actually being responsible and caring about what’s best for his float
You really can’t blame Kion and everyone else to be super skeptical about Makuu. I know he changed for the better, but he’s done…a lot since he beat Pua
“but to invite him to the Savannah Summit? With all these other peaceful animals?”—I hate to break it to you, Kion, but just bc an animal is an herbivore doesn’t mean they’re peaceful and friendly. If anything, it means survivor
Crocs at the Summit worked with Pua cuz everybody loves him 😎
“Makuu has more enemies than friends!”—So does Bunga lmao
The song is great. I love how everyone seems annoyed at first but near the end, it’s all 🎶Kumbaya, my lord! 🎶. Except Makuu…dude looks like he’s lowkey regretting his life choices he did NOT ask for a bs song
I’m totally on Makuu’s side. He was genuinely trying to be civil here, especially when it comes to Bupu
At least Beshte was trying to be the mediator cuz he looks at Makuu AND Bupu, Kion was just being kinda speciesist
Shut up, Bupu, you started the whole thing
Vuruga Vuruga saying “buffalo eat whatever we want” is actually pretty accurate. They, like other animals, don’t care. I read that buffalo will occasionally eat insects if it were an option. Even Twiga could sucking on a bone if she wanted to. Seriously, look it up
If Zazu had a nickel for every time a rhino used him as a chair, he’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice (great nod to the OG movie)
Rafiki is such a mood “not the official painting” you old ass gremlin/aff
I remember Athena P criticizing Simba for blaming Kion about ruining the Summit after Makuu understandably leaves and I agree. Wtf Simba he’s 10. Go easy on him, come on 😭
The part that irks me the most is that when Mufasa asks “What has Makuu done to make you think this way?”, Kion says “Nothing, really”. BRO WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘NOTHING REALLY’?! I understand Mufasa meant what Makuu has done today but there are a LOT of things Makuu’s done in the past that Kion should have told his grandpa. In fact, here’s a whole list:
-Taking over Big Springs when he became leader, resulting in all the animals to scatter
-Challenging kids to fight
-Taking over the flood plains
-Trying to eat Basi which would have been just him being a crocodile if not for the fact that the reason is so he wouldn’t have to follow any rules (says so on the wiki)
-TAKING NALA HOSTAGE (seriously did Simba even KNOW about that? Did Nala or Kion bother to tell him?)
-Generally being a dick to animals
Makuu I know you did nothing wrong in this episode, but you can’t blame Kion for acting this way
I’m not placing any blame on Mtoto. He’s a good boy and all he did was tell the guard what he heard and that’s it
Twiga and Vuruga Vuruga coming up with the trap doesn’t surprise me. Cape buffalo are actually really vengeful irl so it makes sense how she wanted to teach Makuu a lesson. They ain’t called “Black Death” or “Widow Maker” for nothing
It’s cool how Makuu took the prank well. Respect.
Wonder how Makuu felt about animals fighting over him lmao?
Let Sleeping Crocs Lie
Once again this episode would be VERY different if my oc Piga was still alive
Kiburi has a right to be mad. I’m not excusing what he does later in the episode but I’d be pissed too if someone woke me up
Okay but Nduli sleeping next to Kiburi is adorable. Adds to my hc how close they are
Serious question: Why exactly can’t the crocs go back to sleep after they’ve been woken up? The obvious answer is bc it drives the plot forward, but is it true in actual crocodiles? I kinda wanna know the scientific reason
Good on Makuu for going the pacifism route. He’d really do anything for his float
Love how Kiburi was like “Yeah yeah, whatever you say” but the second Makuu left, he was like “ANARCHY!”
Idk if any of you caught this, but when Ushari’s like “we reptiles will rule the pridelands under your leadership, right?” Scar actually hesitated before going “sure bud”. That makes me think he was going to betray Ushari the moment he and his army get rid of Simba and the Lion Guard
Crocs really DO need a lot of water, otherwise their lives are on the line. Makuu was really more concerned than upset
“KIBURI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”—Fighting a child, what’s it look like
Side hc: I like to think something similar happened with Pua, Piga, and Kujivunia. Pua saw Piga antagonizing some poor young animal and he was all “Piga! What in the Pridelands do you think you’re doing?” and Kujivunia (who happened to be there), with her typical sarcasm was like “Performing a dance number, Pua 🙄”
There go the skinks again. Njano with his cuteness and Shupavu…doing her best Grinch face
“At least you’ll be close to all your friends!”Awww Beshte trying to be positive 🥺
Kiburi saying “we crocs deserve better!” brings me back to my hc that Kiburi had good intentions (again, until further in the episode), he just went about it the wrong way. He’s almost like an activist in a way. He’s not trying to be selfish, he just wanted a better watering hole. Now going as far as to rule the Pridelands…..yeah too far
The background crocodiles who were like 😦 when Kiburi called for the mashindano are so me. I’m the one going “Ooooooh shit!”
Still not getting over that super gay conversation between Kiburi and Ushari
STILL CAN’T GET OVER HOW KIBURI AND HIS FLOAT LAUGH AAAAA (Neema’s laugh tho)
Nduli looks so derpy I love him
I LOVE HOW SELF-AWARE TAMKA IS WHAT AN ICON
Lmao Nduli just gave up like “Fuck it you win”
Love the parallels of Makuu pinning down Kiburi like he did to Pua
Kiburi, I love you but what the hell did you expect? You literally confessed to like 500 animals about your plan and then you get surprised when Simba and Makuu banish you? What did you think was gonna happen? You got way too cocky, I swear
Saying this again, Tamka and Nduli looked worried/traumatized when they were exiled
“Now you’re calling me a reptile?”—My love, you ARE a reptile. I thought crocodiles were supposed to be smart omg
Kiburi’s actually showing emotion for the first time
OMG JANJA HEY BABY HOW ARE YOU?
Full disclosure: “I have a plan” is mediocre at best. It has nothing on Be Prepared. That being said, I love Kiburi’s “Aiight I’m in” smile
That’s pretty much it. Maybe I’ll do more in the future
I haven't done a manip in the TLG style yet! At least not like this. You guys remember Matu? Well, I wanted to show what he'd look like a bit older. Around the end of my story at least. The pretty lass next to him is his sister, Fahari! I wanted to just redesign my old oc Lura, and ended up making a new kiddo. I feel as if Fahari is more the leader of the duo. She's strong willed and stubborn. Matu is more passive and a follower, he's too worried about letting people down. He usually gets dragged into Faharis' antics. He means well. Just a little bit of fun and self care. Been stressed with irl stuff and wanted to do something for funsies!
She had heard news down the vine so to speak, that the leaders of the pridelands had their first cub not too long ago, a girl, Kiara. Cubs were sweet....even lion cubs. She wasn't sure how long it had been since she heard about the birth----she certainly didn't expect to find a lost little lion cub in her clans territory. She wasn't a monster. She didn't pay any mind to the panic and stares of the other animals as she walked through the pridelands, the little cub held gently in her powerful jaws. (Ashanti for TLG verse Simba)
Simba and the pride had been looking for the princess for a day but no one could find her. She was lost and Simba was angry with himself more than ever. How could he be so inattentive? It was his fault, he shouldn't have taken her with him on the morning patrol. A short distraction and the trouble was there. If something happened to her, he didn't know what he would do... He wouldn't forgive himself.
The sun was already going down, and in the desperate search when all hope seemed to be lost a hyena showed up with a lion cub carried in her mouth. Simba couldn't believe his eyes! He knew this hyena, he had met her long before when becoming king. They had had some issues, but they were mostly at peace with each other.
"Kiara? KIARA!" The lion run up to them, he'd got weight off his shoulders seeing his precious little girl alive. He nuzzled her head after she got free, then he looked at the hyena.
"Thank you, Ashanti." His voice sounded gentle and grateful. It was the first time he thanked a hyena for something since the war...
