the frenemies of all time
it was so hard to find pictures of them in the same shots 😭 they're in the same scenes all the time but not the same shots- i think it's actually a purposeful choice by the animators to show they're not actually allied, which i think is cool

I’ve had this in my mind for a while so now I give you
Outlander Pirate AU (feat. Makuu)
-This is definitely one of the Zootopia-esque au’s because who doesn’t love animal pirates?
-The hyenas and vultures are part of one big crew, with Janja as the Captain and Mzingo as his first mate
-Jasiri and Reirei both defied gender roles by being Captains of their crew. Reirei met Goigoi while captured on another ship and she rose to the top. She married Goigoi and her crew grew from there
-Jasiri is actually a privateer who works under newly crowned King Kion. She eventually convinces Janja’s crew to merge with hers and is known as “The Pirate Queen” by everyone else.
Janja agreed cuz he maaay or may not have a repressed crush on Jasiri but he’ll obviously take that to his watery grave
-Captain Kiburi formed a new pirate crew after he started a mutiny against his former captain, Makuu. Makuu, however, had seen it coming and was able to fend off Kiburi and his followers. His crew isn’t as big as the other pirate captains, but holy shit can they fight. They’ve killed more animals than the rest combined
-Kenge was found as a stowaway on Kiburi’s ship, with him against the world and turning to piracy for survival. The crocs wanted to kill him on sight, but Kenge had something they didn’t: venom. So when Tamka tried to attack after calling him “little”, he ferociously bit him and held him at knifepoint. It was then when Kiburi had a better idea: Why not put that anger and those fighting skills to good use? He’s now one of the crocs, being Kiburi’s new friend and best fighter. Everyone thinks they should be scared of the crocodiles when it’s really him you gotta worry about. Kiburi likes to use him as a threat. Either give them all the loot or they’ll sick Kenge on you
-Sumu is an interesting story. Kiburi’s crew found him while exploring a desert island. It’s unknown how he got there in the first place (he doesn’t like to talk about it), but he ultimately joins the crew as a cabin boy among Kenge’s suggestion. Kiburi thought nothing of it until he saw Sumu in action. Turns out he can fatally stab people so that’s fun.
-Ushari was once a great pirate, but after too many near death experiences, he decided to become a grumpy innkeeper with Shupavu and Njano as his employees. They usually act as bartenders who serve drinks to the guests.
-After Makuu started a mutiny against him, Pua stepped down from captain of his crew and resides at the inn, telling all kinds of stories to anyone who would listen
-Hodari is a cabin boy in Makuu’s float. It was always his dream to be a pirate and he was able to prove himself when he helped Makuu steal from Kiburi (after Kiburi stole from him first lol)
-All the captains act like mortal enemies at sea, but put them next to each other in a tavern or Ushari’s inn and they’re acting like they’ve been friends for years
-Out of all the crews, Kiburi’s curses the most. They’ve even done it in the inn when they visited for the night. Ushari had to threaten to bite them on the spot if they didn’t stop driving his customers away. The skinks didn’t do much to help, as Shupavu was too busy laughing and Njano was encouraging them
-Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed are also retired pirates, giving their ship to Janja’s crew once they put the life behind them. They own a tavern, which is another popular hangout spot for pirates
-Njano once snuck onto Kiburi’s ship on his day off. It was a disaster
Kiburi’s realization went like this

I’ve been asked several times what I think about The Lion Guard. I have to admit that I got curious and, despite my old-ass age and despite it being a cartoon airing on Disney Junior, I watched the whole season. My opinions are a bit conflicting, so it’s better if I explain myself in terms of pros and cons.
Pros: first of all, I loved the design. All of it. Characters and sceneries. Ah, the good old 1990s 2D animation! Of course, the quality doesn't reach that of the original movie, but nonetheless the background paintings and character design were great – we know, after all, that when it comes to character design Disney is the best. The voice acting was great, too! Then, what a lovely bunch of bad guys! I liked how Janja wears his spiky mane backwards like a true gangster, I liked how Cheezi bears an amazing resemblance to Ed, I liked the jackal couple, the cunning committee of vultures… And, not surprisingly, the villains songs are the best. And then, Jasiri! I think she’s the best character in the show so far. Her design is beautiful, her tough and mocking attitude balanced by her good heart make her downright adorable, and the message she carries (Sisi Ni Sawa) is one of the most important things to preach to children. Also, I thought that making up the Guard with different animals was not a bad idea in this sense. Another thing I appreciated was the accuracy as far as the animals’ behavior is concerned (the aardwolves being shy and nocturnal termite-eaters, the honey badger being a little pest and his immunity to snake venom, the zebras being the predators’ favorite dish, the cheetah’s strong sense of independence, etc.), and the fairly more significant presence of other species than what was shown in The Lion King movies and in the Timon & Pumbaa TV show: I found all this potentially edifying for kids, and I hope the producers and writers will continue on this line. Last but not least, I loved the usage of that awesome language that is Swahili: maybe the catchphrases were a bit too much repetitive, but surely the choice of names was damn clever.
Cons: “After all, hyenas are scavengers…” Again. We know it’s not always true; actually, accredited research has shown that this behavior is most of the time attributable to lions. Speaking of hyenas and their enduring bad image in the human mind, it’s shocking how this cartoon criminalizes this species. Okay, it’s a cartoon and bad guys are needed and who better than hyenas, jackals, and vultures if the protagonist is a lion? I get that. But the blind, senseless racism against these species, no. That, I don’t like. Despite the sporadic positive messages like Jasiri’s, the selective racism – or classism is predominant and it is also expressed in the settings: the sunny, luxuriant Pridelands versus the barren, dark, creepy Outlands; the beauty and wealth are reserved to ‘good’ animals, while the ‘bad’ ones (the POOR, the STARVING) are exiled in the ghetto without any clear reason. The song from the pilot, “Tonight We Strike!”, is about a fair rebellion of the outcasts against the privileged Pridelanders, yet it is represented as a vicious, despicable act, without specifying the fact that who is excluded from the sharing creates chaos as a natural reaction. In the same way, that ridiculous Kupatana thing was nothing else than a pathetic, fake pietism towards the outcasts. This leads me to the question of the Circle of Life, which is rightly depicted as the natural balance for survival and preservation of life; but the Guard also has a fanatical attitude towards it, as if it were a goddamn Reich! Like, “You, filthy hyena, you’re ugly and evil, no I don’t care that you have to eat and survive as well, you don’t respect the Circle of Life so you’re out!”, and “You, beautiful zebra, you’re every carnivore’s yummiest dream, I can save you from the hyenas and you can live in the Pridelands, and no don’t worry about me getting hungry and chewing up your stripy ass, it’s the Circle of Life!” To quote Fuli, see what I mean? I know, I'm almost 30, I have an education that has given me the skills to read between the lines, and all this may sound like a bunch of philosophical details kids will never catch. Maybe. But some of these ideas should be rethought, because kids do acknowledge the message, at least subconsciously! Never underestimate the kids’ powers of reception, guys. They notice everything. Their little minds are huge containers and their memory is fresh and amazing. We don’t want wrong stuff to get to them, do we?
That would be all. This is not the first time Disney subtly expresses such ideologies, after all. Anyway, as a cartoon freak and artist, I’ll gladly watch the next season. I think I’ll watch cartoons as long as I’m alive.

How Do We Heal From This? (A fanfic by me!) So I’m in huge a Lion King/Lion Guard mood today and this story just sorta came to my mind and I wrote it. I wanted to post it here as well as on my fanfiction account because why not? --------------------------
Kion sat on the ledge of Priderock as the rain poured down through out the Pridelands. Kiara, Simba, and Nala had all called for the young prince to come inside. He wouldn't budge however and as they still called his name from the den, he sat still as stone. To put it simply it hadn't been a good day.
It was five minutes later that Simba had had enough. He ran out into the storm and quickly grabbed his son by the scruff. "Dad! Let go of me!" Kion hissed. Simba shook his head and walked into the den. He put Kion down and then wrapped his paws around him to hold him still. "Kion... I know you feel like what happened was your fault, but it wasn't. It was-" "NO! IT WAS MY FAULT! IT IS MY FAULT!" Kion growled loudly, suddenly cutting his father off mid sentence.
"Son... We all know who was behind the attack. It was Scar not you," Simba said. Kion felt his body shake a little at the mention of his great-uncle's name. The lion who was the leader of his own guard before Kion. The lion who used his roar to kill his guard members... The lion who then murdered his grandfather and tried killing his dad.
"But... It's because of me that he's back! I used the roar in under and made the volcano in the Outlands erupt I mean yeah! Janja and ushari took Makini's staff so that after I roared all they'd have to do was drop it in for Scar to come back... However we all know IF I hadn't roared he wouldn't be here again! If I knew what they had been planning I wouldn't of roared even if I felt like it! And... And because of that... She's dead," Kion whimpered. He felt the tears forming in his eyes again for the tenth time that night. Yes he knew his other friends didn't blame him for this, that the animals of the Pridelands still trusted him, as did his family. But... She was dead and there was nothing anyone could do that would chance that. One of the members of his lion guard, one of his friends... was gone.
"Kion. You were angry because Janja had captured me. And he threatened to kill us. You had a good reason... And you saved me! I know, I know you miss-" Kiara however wasn't able to finish as her brother began to speak.
"I-I... I never got the chance to tell her... that I-" Kion tried to finish his words, but couldn't. Through the heavy sobs that cracked from his eyes he just couldn't speak right now. He felt broken. He felt like a failure. He didn't get there in time! He didn't get to Fuli until after it was too late. Seeing Janja laugh, Seeing Reirei smirk at him as she licked the blood from his lips, how the vultures ate the flesh of the dead cheetah and the crocodiles cheering them on. Kion felt angry yet terrified at the same time. He ended up fleeing the scene just as the others got there.
"Shhh... It's alright. She knew. She knew. And we know she felt the same for you," Simba whispered, hugging his son closely. Nala and Kiara joined in on the hug and stayed quiet for a few minutes. "I miss her..." Kion finally said. "I know sweetheart. So do we," Nala added in, as Kiara nodded. Kion hugged his parents and sister tightly. He didn't know how he'd even be managing at all if it wasn't for his family and friends. How could he even find another member to take Fuli's place? No one was the fastest but her. He'd have to though... He'd have to find someone who was at least a bit as fast as that cheetah was.
After about ten more minutes of crying Nala scooped Kion up in her jaws and carried him to the corner of den with Kiara and Simba following. Nala placed her son in her paws and held him close. Simba and Kiara snuggled up against them.
Kion yawned as the emotional exhaustion told hold and he fell asleep in his mother's grasp. Kiara sighed and nuzzled Kion gently. She loved her little brother so much. Even if at times they fought she loved him. "He'll be alright, Kiara. It will take time, but he'll get past this. And we'll be here to help him," Simba said.
Kiara simply nodded as she glanced at her brother's sleeping form. It was clear his body wasn't relaxed. "Do you think we could also help him defeat Scar? He and the guard spent the entire Dry Season trying to stop him! Dealing attack after attack! And nothing worked..." Kiara mumbled. "Of course, Darling. This isn't and never was just Kion's responsibility But we can do more than we have and we will," Simba nodded. "Sounds good to me," Kiara replied. "I just want that monster of a lion gone. He's broken Kion's spirit and I'll never forget or forgive him for that,"
Nala licked her daughter's head gently before speaking. "I know. This is all a lot, but we should all try to get some sleep," the queen said. "Okay, Mom," Kiara responded. With that the other three members of the royal family rested their eyes and tried to sleep. It took a few hours, but soon they were all asleep as the storm outside continued on.

scar's guard au
i can't find the original post now, but someone had the idea of scar making the outlands leaders his own guard (CrystalNavy on ao3 made a fic of this au, it may well be their idea originally but i'm not sure.) i'm gonna elaborate on some ideas! :3
i imagine their guard's powers would be based around their own skills!:
janja: leader by default as he was born in the outlands, one of scar's summoners and the main enemy to the lion guard. the poster on tumblr of this idea had the idea of janja having a hyena's laugh that countered kion's roar, which is a cool thought!
ushari: poisoner (is that a word?), as irl his venom can kill adult elephants i'm pretty sure. though i doubt he'd use it much but rather for intimidation and also because he mainly resides in the volcano talking to scar. despite janja's leadership of the guard he is right hand man to scar and the leader of the skinks & reptiles, telling them where to spy, cause havoc and attack.
reirei: schemer. she's tasked with getting scar's army out of a fix and, in particular, coming up with backup plans when scar isn't around.
kiburi: fighter. he and his float have the job of doing the most of the fighting and providing a defence for the army if needed. he calls for the battles a lot, especially when janja isn't there.
mzingo: alongside the skinks the vultures are spies, except they have eyes from the sky. they mainly patrol from higher altitudes where they can't be spotted. also the arsonists.
relating to canon, scar's army doesn't always attack the lion guard all together, similar to how scar would patrol alone and most often janja, reirei & kiburi being the attackers. if this au stuck to canon their lack of connectivity would be part of their downfall.
if anyone has any ideas about this au i'd love to hear them! if i find the original poster/creator they'll be credited here!

*slams this on the table* another one.
listen. i know they can't watch a movie so... maybe someone tells them the zimwi story? or some other scary legend that's specific to the outlands? idk why but i feel like jasiri and madoa would be good story-tellers because they're full-time tunu and wema entertainers lol
maybe a little ooc but some of them literally would not care less lmao

Buckle up bc this is gonna be heavy
Imagine an “It’s a Wonderful Life” type TLG fanfic/episode (ik ik cliche much?) where Jasiri starts having doubts about being an under-appreciated ruler of the Outlands after a particularly bad day. She doesn’t wish that she was never born, but she DOES start to wonder if she made the right choice of agreeing to the role of Prime Minister. Cue Ushari’s ghost visiting her in her dreams and telling her how the Outlands would be worse without her ruling it, and it soon devolves to what an alternate world would look like without her in it
-Without her, Kion’s perception of hyenas wouldn’t have changed and he wouldn’t have learned “Sisi ni Sawa”. Not only him, but she showed a lot of animals how there were good hyenas
-Not only has she saved Janja’s life multiple times, but she changed his views on life in general. He would have never started respecting the circle of life. At the most, he’d probably be dead and his boys would follow through without a leader
-Janja may have told Kion how to defeat Scar, but it was really her who convinced everyone to actually listen to him in the first place
-Life would have definitely been harder for her clan if she was never born. Madoa wouldn’t have a shoulder to cry on or anyone to assure her that the clan will get through their hardships. Hell, I don’t know if Wema and Tunu would have made it without her since she always put their needs over hers
-The rest of the Outlanders would have never had another chance had she not been a prime minister
-Reirei and her pack wouldn’t have accepted to respect the circle of life and would have been worse off had they moved
-Kiburi’s float would have stayed independent…and that would have been their downfall. Unlike the Pridelands, the Outlands have less food and water. Because of Kiburi’s pride, he wouldn’t think or trust anyone to ask for help and his float would have been starving and dehydrated. This would lead to arguments and Kiburi pushing his friends away…eventually, for good
-Mzingo would have tried to rule the Outlands, but no one, except for his parliament, would listen to him. Not even the hyenas. This would make him give up and flee the lands in search for a better life, leaving the animals they raised to fend for themselves without their wisdom
-The skinks would have stayed cold and bitter about Scar and Ushari’s deaths. If not for Jasiri’s idea to reform, all they’d be to the rest of Africa was another food option, since they wouldn’t meet Kenge or Sumu to protect them
-Speaking of Kenge and Sumu, she’s been their therapist. She listens to their problems and she’s taught them that not everyone is bad. Without her rule, the two wouldn’t have pushed themselves to be better animals and instead be all alone and bitter, the both of them dying emotionally AND physically
It could be the same for Kiburi as well. Maybe he’s tired of messing up or he doesn’t believe that he could really change because of all the bad things he’s done. But believe it or not, he’s done a lot of good things without even realizing it and the world would kind of suck if he had never been born:
-Piga would have never genuinely smiled or have his spirits lifted, not even with Ucheshi. Kiburi is his pride and joy and had he never existed, Piga simply wouldn’t have been happy. And to add on, Piga would be much harder on his kids, with Ucheshi being effected the most
-Ucheshi may be the exact opposite of Kiburi and he HAS said things like “How are we related?”. But he has never EVER encouraged her to change who she was. Kiburi is the reason she’s so happy and free, because he let her be herself. Piga wasn’t like that. Under his rules, she would have lost her spirit and become cold and untrustworthy, making others cry instead of laugh. Not to mention, Kiburi played a role in her and Makuu’s love story. His banishment and their argument was essentially the cause of them falling on love, with Makuu comforting Ucheshi and Ucheshi making Makuu laugh, which made him develop feelings for her and show his tender side. Have I mentioned how close they are? Like Kiburi is genuinely a good brother to her
-Tamka wouldn’t be accepted for who he is. Everyone judged him, everyone dismissed him for lacking intelligence. But not Kiburi. Kiburi was the first friend Tamka ever made and who didn’t seem to judge him, thus why he remained loyal. Tamka wouldn’t have anyone to really depend on without him
-Oh Nduli….poor poor Nduli. His life would have been miserable if he never met. Kiburi was the one Nduli really looked up to, the one who was always so nice and welcoming when he first hatched. It was Kiburi who convinced Piga to take him in after Kinywa died, it was Kiburi who cared for him most of his life, and it was Kiburi who promised that nothing bad was going to happen to him no matter what. Who knows what would happen to him without the best croc in his eyes?
-Neema wouldn’t have anyone to appreciate his intelligence. Sure, he’d follow Makuu and he’d still live in the Pridelands with Tamka and Nduli, but he wouldn’t be happy about it. He always really sided with Kiburi about a lot of things, he just kept quiet about it.
-If you think about it, Kiburi’s the reason Makuu turned out to be such a great leader. As hatchlings, Kiburi was Makuu’s greatest support system ever since he said he wanted to be the next leader. Makuu beating Kiburi proved to be good sparring practice and he used those skills to win the mashindano. Even after the friendship ended, he still inadvertently helped Makuu grow, with him repeatedly defeating Kiburi proving his development to the members that were still wary of the new change in leadership.
-Hodari would have never joined Makuu’s float. Hodari helped Makuu defeat Kiburi with a hurt leg and that got him to be an honorary crocodile. Without him, the rejection would have destroyed his lively, happy-go-lucky personality over time with broken dreams
-Even though it was Makuu who used to idolize Pua, not even he took some of his lessons to heart like Kiburi did. It’s subtle, but Pua can tell when someone listens to his advice and he appreciates that. It’s the little things that keep Pua going :)
-Kiburi didn’t think anything of it, but calling Kenge “big” did something to the lizard. The only other animals who did that were ones (mostly reptiles) that were smaller than him, but to have someone bigger say it so casually, it hit different. For the first time, Kenge felt truly validated. He got to be seen as an equal and that wouldn’t have been possible if Kiburi didn’t exist
-Hukumu would have kept thinking that bad/evil animals don’t change for the better, but when she met Kiburi…that changed. It was understandably hard for her to accept that her love wasn’t…the best crocodile, but he proved that he changed since then
-Wakali’s simple. Without a father to adopt and love her, she wouldn’t be alive
-Oh and Hatari would still be alive and have eventually killed all the crocodiles in the Pride Lands. His crocodile-hating reign of terror wouldn’t have ended if Kiburi wasn’t there to stop him. Not to mention the effect the lack of crocodiles would have in the circle of life
-If there’s one good thing that Kiburi is constantly doing, it’s how he ALWAYS has his friends’ backs. How he’s so protective over them and deep down, just wants everyone to be treated right. Before the dry season, all of his intentions were good. He just went about it via the crocodile way bc that’s how he was raised
Jasiri ends up getting an appreciation party for all the stuff she goes through and Kiburi comes back feeling more grateful about where he is now

TLG Outlanders Jumanji AU that i have suddenly become obsessed with :) buckle up
i'm mainly basing this off of the 2017 movie, with elements of the 2019 one too
wema, tunu, dogo and kijana are playing when they find a hidden cave, they go in and they find lots of weird paintings on the wall and the floor. ever the inquisitive one, dogo steps into a circle in the middle and they all get sucked into... Jumanji?? or maybe in the TLG universe it's called Mchezo
the adults look for them. the leaders (plus kenge and sumu) and the idiots (plus mwoga, nne, tano and neema) go in two groups to search since the kids were missing for a while. the leaders find the hidden cave first as sumu noticed it in his small size. they get sucked in, and eventually the idiots find it after them
they turn into human versions upon entering the world. yeah they're pretty freaked out lmao
the premise is that they go through trials to "prove" themselves, at the risk of their 3 lives, to get to the final task of saving the kiddos. i'm thinking each of them get a task focused on their skills but all of them are at the will of it, aka any of them could lose a life in any trial
i think the Strengths & Weaknesses bit would be funny. kiburi has no weaknesses, he says smth like "I'm too good to be weak 😏" and then 'Pride' pops up hfgdhdh. tamka's weakness would be cake because i think it'd be funny. nduli's is picking up cool rocks. i would say goigoi's would be sleeping but he'd lose all 3 in an instant. the list goes on
reirei is mad because she gets the boring map-reader job lol, despite that she saves everyone's asses so
i imagine sumu is like Milo, he gives them the information in a really deadpan tone lmao. it's like "... Oh no..." "Spit it out, will you?!" "... Mandrills. We should go" and he just continues spilling knowledge while they're running for their lives lmao
you know how in the second movie Bethany/Milo is a horse? yeah nne and tano are straight up just themselves- they're hyenas but realistic, like they didn't change 💀 they're just there doing hyena laughs and absolutely savaging people in the fights
the ostrich scene from the second movie would be funny. maybe the hyenas are the drivers 👀 NONE of them trust their lives with janja, chungu or cheezi but somefuckinghow.. they don't die
in a trial where the leaders are really trapped, guess who sneaks in and saves them? Ushari!!! that was actually all of their reactions as soon as he spoke and they knew it was him. shupavu hugs him on impulse and then gets awkward about it lol, they're happy to see him
ushari explains how he didn't actually die when scar was destroyed but he escaped the volcano and happened across the hidden cave. he's been trapped ever since and obviously presumed dead. he's been stuck with 1 life because he needed the others to complete the rest of the trials :(
there's a dance fight where kiburi has to defeat the guards without being all guns blazing about it. literally the same as the scene with Martha. it's so funny at first bc he doesn't know what the fuck to do - i hc him as demi, he can't flirt with someone he doesn't know😭 - but when a song (prolly rap?) starts playing he beats their asses easy
little did they know the exact same thing was happening on the opposite side of the building, just with the idiots. tamka, nduli and neema also get their cool moment of beating people up, dance fight style! it's mainly tamka because he actually DOES have a strength in acting :)
the leaders and the idiots enter the building at the same time and it's an "Oh Shit!" spiderman pointing meme moment lmao. from this point on they do the trials together
the vultures fly the helicopters. you can imagine how well that goes. it's just like in the movie where something immediately breaks 😭 i think it'd be cool if kenge was the one to fix the helicopter, giving him a hero moment! imagine it
"Kenge, you did it! :D"
"Guess I did"
"Um... Oops"
"What Janja?"
"I dropped the jewel 😶"
"YOU WHAT?!?!"
janja loses a life in that scene from the rhinos 😭 do i wanna traumatise mzingo that much? idk. i just feel like that is such a janja thing to happen. fridge's character is janja-coded lmfao
"YOU PUSHED ME OUT THE HELICOPTER! >:("
that scene where fridge pushes spencer off a cliff? yeah that obviously happens. i'm thinking reirei and janja squabbling. would be funny if janja pushes reirei off impulsively and he just stands there, in shock, waiting to get yelled at when she respawns 😭
there's one of those Step On The Right Pieces trials. kiburi is being all cocky, steps on the wrong one and loses a life- bro gets absolutely humbled lmao. i think the skinks would be good at that trial for some reason
some random trial ideas: a "sleeping lions" type trial for goigoi. a "follow (copy) the leader" trial for mzingo. a food temptation one for the idiots??
jasiri definitely has a trial where she helps someone or shows that the "bad guy" NPCs can be good or somethin. that's probably the last trial before the finale
at the last trial they all work together to save the kiddos! it's really wholesome at the end because they saved the kids, they actually achieved something, they worked together, AND they got ushari back! :)
bonus:
based on the second movie, i was considering a different version of this au where janja purposefully enters the game to prove himself and it's more of a lesson of how it's not just about his strength, but the strength of all of them
janja just thinks he ain't good enough, especially not being leader of his clan anymore, but it's through working together when the others come after him that he realises that ain't true. just an extra thought i had :)
might make a follow up post because i came up with this in an afternoon just for fun 😭

Outlanders incorrect quotes- Who ate it?
*The Outlanders in the volcano, standing around a carcass that's clearly been eaten and is now just a pile of bones*
Ushari: So. Who ate it? I’m not mad. I just want to know.
Jasiri: I did. I ate it-
Ushari: No. No, you didn’t. Janja?
Janja: Don't look at me! Look at Shupavu.
Shupavu: What?! I didn't eat it.
Janja: Huh. That’s weird. How did you even know it was eaten?
Shupavu: Because it’s sitting right in front of us, and it’s eaten!
Janja: Suspicious.
Shupavu: No, it's not!
Mzingo: If it matters, probably not but... Reirei was the last one by it.
Reirei: Liar! I don't even eat *that*!
Mzingo: Oh, really? Then what were you doing in the volcano earlier?
Reirei: I use the steam to puff up my fur! Everyone knows that, Mzingo!
Jasiri: Alright, let’s not fight. I ate it, let me get another, Ushari.
Ushari: No. Who ate it?
Janja: Ushari... Kiburi's been awfully quiet.
Kiburi: Really?!
Janja: Yeah, really!
Kiburi: Oh my god-
...
*Distant sounds of arguing*
Ushari: I ate it. I predict ten minutes from now, they’ll be at each other’s throats with warpaint on their faces and a warthog on a stick. *hisses* Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

Kenge relationship headacanons
Jasiri-Jasiri and Kenge have created an unlikely friendship. Being a new leader, she wanted to give everybody in the Outlands another chance to respect the Circle of Life and Kenge was no exception. Kenge didn’t want anything to do with her at first, but the more Jasiri showed that she cared about her subjects (and acted like his therapist), he slowly became more trusting and protective of her. She’s even regarded him as family at one point. “Everyone in the Outlands are like a big family, and that includes you”. Kenge won’t admit it, but he actually teared up at that. Nobody’s ever thought of him as family before
Wema and Tunu-He claimed that he wasn’t fond of kids, but that changed once he met the twins. They were too pure for the world, not even Kenge had the heart to hurt them. So Kenge did what he knew best: he taught them and the other kids (and skinks) to fight. Kenge won’t lie, they really grew on him. They lowkey remind him of himself when he was young, being all sweet and innocent
Janja, Chungu, and Cheezi-All three of them are still terrified of him…and make the mistake of using the word “little” around him (they don’t call him little, but they do use phrases like “a little help”)
Jackals: Pretty cordial to Reirei and Goigoi keeps annoying him with his stupidity. Dogo, Kijana, and the other pups are pretty much the only ones he cares about, being his students and all. He likes how much potential Dogo and Kijana show him
Kiburi-I like to think the friendship would be a lil one-sided on Kiburi’s part. Like he’d lowkey see Kenge as an honorary float member due to how much potential he has, but Kenge’s shown to be pretty indifferent. He’d see Kiburi as a cocky asshole if anything (he may be cocky himself but he’s not that prideful yk?). This is until Kiburi says something like “you’re a big guy, ain’tcha?” at some point and it sticks cuz Kiburi’s the only animal bigger than him who said something like that. It hit different. They got mutual respect for one another, so they’re cool. As I said before, Kenge’s kinda like the honorary croc in the float, it’s really sweet since Kenge finally feels like he’s one of the big boys
Skinks-As I covered before, Kenge acts as the skinks’ protector/bodyguard. Shupavu and Njano were smart enough to get on his good side and convince him that lizards have to stick together. I like to think they INTENDED to just use him for protection and nothing else, but then they got to know Kenge more. Now they got they have the one of the most genuine friendships in the Outlands. Shupavu and Kenge bonded over their relationship with Ushari and they genuinely worry over the other’s well being at times. Njano and the other skinks also like to act as Kenge’s hype-men (lizards) and even try giving dating advice when he develops feelings for Maji. Njano definitely likes to mess with him sometimes
Sumu-Kenge and Sumu met during the battle in “The Scorpion’s Sting”. After regaining consciousness, he permanently went his separate way and lay down to rest. Unbeknownst to him, Sumu happened to be sitting right next to him eating a mouse he caught. Then they just…started talking and have been by each other’s side ever since.
Their relationship dynamic is basically 50% wholesome “You’re one of the few people in my life who doesn’t suck and I care about you” and 50% friendly banter. Took a while for the both of them to realize they made a friend in each other tho
Ushari- Kenge and Ushari have known each other since they were kids. After essentially being ditched by his siblings by trying to find a flower that doesn’t grow in Africa, a lonely Kenge is sulking when a little snake-let comes along and asks him if he’s okay. They introduced themselves and they’ve been at each other’s side ever since. Ushari did his best to stand up for Kenge from his brothers and Kenge would defend Ushari from getting stepped on with his life. They would do anything for each other
Kifo-Gonna keep this one brief since I already covered them, but Kenge did NOT like Kifo at first due to being reminded of Ushari and his death whenever he saw her. After she proved she could talk to Ushari, he began opening up. He’s now trying to teach her how to use her venom for self defense
Maji-Ever since becoming lovers, Kenge shows to genuinely love and care about Maji and vice versa. You’d think he’d be the abusive type, but he surprisingly isn’t. He’s actually the most calm when he’s with her. They treat each other as equals and gladly fight back to back when either of them is in danger. He even has a habit of (lovingly) staring at her, it’s adorable. I wouldn’t call him romantic, but he’s trying lmao. Luckily, Maji’s version of romance is Kenge’s fighting so it works out. She thinks it’s attractive :)
They also do this thing where they interlock their tails. It’s the lizard equivalent of hand-holding and it’s ADORABLE
Jino and the rest of his siblings-Already said this before, but they literally hate each other. While Kenge only wanted his siblings’ love and to fit in with them, Jino and the others saw Kenge as nothing more than a burden. They would hurt, mock, and tease him about his size, with Jino claiming he wanted to “toughen him up”. It wasn’t until Kenge finally stood up for himself that Jino finally started treating him as one of them. When Kenge declined and left, Jino went straight back to mocking him.
Kenge’s also kind of scared of Jino, which is why he felt like he couldn’t do anything when he came to visit. He was scared that Jino might beat him up, something he’s done before. After Kenge stood up for himself a second time, Jino and his other sibling became more submissive and scared of him. Jino still acts cocky as hell, but he avoids Kenge now….or does he?
Badili- OKAY HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE. So imagine Kenge has to go to the Backlands to get a certain plant for a very sick Kiburi. He goes with Janja, Chungu, and Cheezi in the Back Lands and soon chooses to go his own way. His stubbornness ends up getting himself lost in Mirihi Forest where he meets Badili.
Kenge didn’t really like Badili at first since he found him to be “too chipper” and was just focused on getting the plant. Throughout Kenge’s visit, however, Badili just kept being nice to him and helping him no matter how angry or bossy Kenge got. Badili never saw Kenge as a bad lizard, but a broken one. He was smart enough to realize Kenge’s hatred of the word “little” was because of past trauma. They eventually get to officially bond after Kenge almost bites Badili when he made the mistake of using the word “little” around him. While semi-afraid, Badili stands his ground and asked something no one else did:
“Are you okay?”
From that point on, they share each other’s past experiences and Kenge finally warms up to the leopard. Badili’s kindness reminds him of himself when he was younger and the fact that he overcame his fear of his bully was actually kind of impressive to him. He just didn’t get how Badili didn’t become…well, like him. Badili’s responded with “Because I didn’t wanna stoop down to his level”. I like to think he teaches Kenge that becoming a hate-filled bully isn’t a good way to deal with your problems and that definitely gets Kenge to humble himself… or at least not be as grouchy as before. They have a heartfelt moment when Kenge meets with the hyenas and they find the plant. Kenge definitely promises to visit him someday. You could even call them friends :)
