I love you thriftbooks <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally could get four books for less than the price of one on Amazon.
But since I'm broke, I love you Oceanofpdf even more <3
(I just downloaded all four of those books for free instead!! :D)

I Love ThriftBooks!
This is going to sound like one of those thinly veiled Cariona or RayBans ads, but I guarantee this content is 100% not sponsored. I found this website through a screenshot of an old tumblr post on Pinterest before I even joined tumblr, so I thought I should put it back on here.
ThriftBooks is exactly what it sounds like: an online way to shop secondhand books at a discounted price. It's like Half Price Books, but with free shipping on orders $15+ and a rewards system that gives you free books. At the lowest tier, you get a free $6 book for every $60 you spend.
(But Will, spending $60 on books is easier than finding a book that only costs $6. That doesn't sound like a deal to me.)
It is on ThriftBooks! Prices get as low as $3, and not just on out-of-date kiddy books. I had a list of THIRTY-SIX books of required reading this semester (English major!!!), and I came out with only spending $200 total. I got FOUR free books through multiple orders. At market value, the full stack would have cost me around $650 through my campus bookstore. SIX HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS. For a stack of books I might not even read. That's a whole month of rent and utilities I saved.
Please please pLEASE go shop on ThriftBooks! I've bought all my textbooks through college on there, even before I changed to an English degree. They have everything!* Here's a promo link for my friends if you want a free book at only $30:
*(Disclaimer: ThriftBooks does rely on readers to send in their books once done with them, and though they have some new books, their stock is liable to fluctuate. STEM majors may be SOL when it comes to finding a specific edition of a textbook that came out last year.)

Happy New Year's!!!
Now that it's 2024, and we're all buzzing with newfound inspiration and excitement to go out and be better than we were last year, I am going to ask something of all y'all. Please keep that inspiration and drive going into the New Year! But...
If you're a witch, if you're Pagan, if you're Wiccan, if you're a person who loves monsterfucker smut, if you've been banned from Barnes and Noble, if you're someone who takes 24 credits a semester for some sort of classical literature degree, or if you're just a person who lives in a house made of books and are constantly having to replace your roof after a rainstorm...
Can we PLEASE stop using Amazon and the Kindle app to order our books?
Buy your books on Thriftbooks.com !
They are CHEAPER. Used books in good or great condition!
TB supports small bookstores across the U.S. (and maybe Canada), but by buying from them you're automatically supporting some local bookshop, even if you're not going there personally.
Every time you order you get points toward FREE BOOKS! And as far as I know the points don't expire! (Like right now if you use their app you get an additional 100 points.)
They usually have a wider selection of hard to find or out of print books, because they're coming from secondhand shops.
PLEASE give them a chance, and stop giving Jeff Bezos your money.
If this applies to you, then please consider making an account. Obviously if you HAVE to use Amazon, don't worry about it. But there's better options out there.

When I started using thriftbooks in 2021, every few purchases it would tell me that I'd saved up enough points for a free book, anything under $5. Suddenly, all the prices went up and every book I wanted cost $5.19 or $5.28. A year later, I'd used the website so often that they upgraded me to a higher tier, and suddenly I could cash in my points for any $6 book. Everything I want cost $6.49 after that. Now I'm at the highest tier they offer and I can get any $7 book for free. I just saw a listing for $7.09, whoop de fucking doo.
It's still cheaper than any other bookstore, but it really sucks to witness the gears or capitalism erode its quality in real time. Within a few years used books will cost the same as new ones.

Why haven't I posted an online review about "Eerie Tales from the School of Screams" yet? SpongeBob enjoyed my new horror book BUT completely forgot to post a review! Don't make SpongeBob's mistake! I would love to hear everyone's thoughts! It's a huge help for a little book like mine in getting the word out! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61484886-eerie-tales-from-the-school-of-screams

ThriftBooks, I have a question for you: you have "thrift" in the name, so what makes you think your freebie swag of one hundred dollars off a one hundred and sixty dollar case of fancy wine is useful to the majority demographic buying your books?

I just found out that not everyone knows about thrift books and uh, just have a seat, yeah?
So thrift books is a website where you can get secondhand books for really cheap. It’s not just textbooks and stuff either, they genuinely have such a selection and it’s beautiful.
Anyway, I have so many books from there and they’ve all been in relatively good condition (I.e. no tears or writing, not water damaged!!!!) and yeah it’s just a great and really helpful website :)
Here’s the link
Go forth and purchase books.

Because this is casually a bookblr too (sometimes?), I'll share the books I recently bought off of thrift books, which I highly suggest if you're looking for used books in good condition. :)
Flush by Virginia Woolf
Butch Geography: Poems by Stacey Waite
I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuinston
The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell
Richard III (his biography) by Paul Murray Kendall
The Kingmaker's Daughter by Phillipa Gregory
As well as the DVD of Henry V (with Kenneth Branagh) and The White Queen period drama series 1 (even though they aren't books).

Was browsing thriftbooks today and while I couldn't find the Manga category to filter out comic books and classics for some wierd reason, I was pleasantly surprised to find LGBTQ filter and the categories it offered.
