Just some fun things I've noticed in the Good Omens 2 promo material so far, interpret how you wish:

- prominent use of 'up' imagery, not just 'something's going down in the up' but the 'this end up' box, the ascending? feathers, the up arrow in the opening, Crowley on the elevator and then at some point actually in Heaven

- in the series 1 opening all the marching figures are choosing to move upwards or downwards (towards Heaven or Hell) as they proceed. in the s2 opening EVERYONE is moving in the same direction. sometimes temporarily down but usually upward culminating in an ascent up a very pointy mountain

- said pointy mountain reminds me of the monologue about a bird sharpening its beak on a mountain representing 'eternity', and if ALL the figures are ascending, are they ascending towards eternal life? (Eta: Neil did say that some dialogue from the book they couldn't use in s1 slotted nicely into this season.)

- A pointy mountain also looks like a giant up arrow, so there's that.

The only thing on my mind lately has been your absolutely amazing streamer au and how I just know damn well that The Them (now being older and getting into streaming as well) are little chaos gremlins and occasionally Crowley does streams w them. (Anathema also definitely hops on with them occasionally bc she misses them and just sits in calls on discord or even just plays silently in games while typing her response to them on discord off stream) They definitely all play jackbox together on weekends and fortnite and valorant or like some lawless minecraft server like 2b2t almost. (Crowley doesn’t really know how to play mc but The Them are trying to teach him lol) They do the most heinous crimes on any server they play on in any game they can get their grubby hands on (they love sea of thieves) but also have like chill days where they have like a really nice Raft server and their own modded mc server but none of them are very good at keeping things totally calm so streams on chill days always end in chaos anyways. Silly little rambles sorry abt that! But I just know the Them being young adults now would definitely be streamers too. Crowley probably wouldn’t stream with them too often but in my head that’s what The Them are up to as well in this au:)

I live for the fanfic trope of Crowley basically fighting for his life while hearing Aziraphale making "almost pornografic" noises while eating. I have read fics where they eat and Aziraphale just enjoys it and it's not a Thing and Crowley is normal about it, and I'm always disappointed.

I dont think we're talking enough about Crowley's widow arc. He arrives at the burning bookshop, assumes that hell has killed Aziraphale with hellfire, has the whole mental breakdown, then immediately drives to a pub, gets very drunk, starts talking to literally no one about how he didn't want to be a demon - which doesn't really sound like it's about Aziraphale. Except - if it wasn't for Crowley being a demon, Aziraphale wouldn't have been 'fraternising' with a demon and Aziraphale wouldn't have been executed by hell for it. Then Crowley gets a 'vision' of Aziraphale who tells him to do something for him, and of course Crowley will do it. Everything for his angel.

worth noting that when crowley does the apology dance it's not really because he thinks he's wrong, it's because he just got called to hell and realised how dangerous the whole situation actually was. and the only way to get back into aziraphale's good graces to protect him was to say he was wrong

personally i believe a theme of S3 is going to be about absolutely schooling aziraphale.

i love that angel sm but as much as crowley has his things to learn he knows what’s Up, literally. aziraphale will be schooled every episode and it will hurt him (and us) but he will grow and there will inevitably have an ending where both of them were just enough right about things to come together and make Things right

#I do believe that aziraphale will end up being able to pull whatever Good he can out of a essentially Bad situation #using the optimism and goodness that we all love about him #but he will learn very concretely about the things he’s still rose colored glasses about #in turn Crowley will be lifted as he always is from his place of fear and running by aziraphales strength and determination to make things #Right #it will be a beautiful balance #with a whole lot of angst and pain in between :) #I can’t believe we have to wait like 3 years for this show girl I will be… so much older #still thinking about these fuckers #good omens #good omens season 3 #ineffable husbands #mine

the minisodes and Aziraphale's understanding of moral grey areas

ok so i was explaining the entire plot of s2 to a friends yesterday, and realised something about the minisodes that is so obvious in retrospect-

in a companion to owls, Aziraphale spends most of the time wondering about what is actually right or wrong and what god really wants and so on - of course, by the end he sees that you can do something 'bad' (like lying to thwart the will of god) and not be entirely a bad person for it - starting to see that moral greys exist, but Crowley has to really really encourage him to do it

in the resurrectionists, the first half he's on 'this is entirely bad', is presented with a grey situation by Crowley (& Dalrymple), but immediately goes straight to 'this is all good' - by the end, he sees that really it was neither (sort of) - but once again, crowley has to really prompt him into seeing the nuance

but, by the end of the 1941 minisode, he says 'well, maybe there is something to be said for shades of grey' - almost completely umprompted by Crowley. he doesn't need convincing, or Crowley to tell him that he can't do bad things cos he's an angel (which Crowley doesn't believe, surely, but he can convince Aziraphale into doing most things by telling him that), he just. accepts the moral grey of everything that just happened. (and presumably apologises for making Crowley shoot at him. or something. he does the dance at least)

this is showing the progression in Aziraphale's character - he goes from being fully convinced he'll become a demon for lying one (1) time to save the lives of children, to at least trying to see how something as initially 'completely bad' as bodysnatching can be an attempt to, in his words, 'alleviate human suffering' (good, even if he missed the point), to being able to say that he, an angel, can do things that aren't purely good. seemingly without any major anxiety over it either. and largely unprompted.

his character is not fully developed yet, and he's still pinging wildly between viewing everything as good/bad heaven/hell demons/angels, and moral greys, nuance, and 'our side'. but he is getting there. slowly.

#i love him dearly even with his character flaws because *that's the whole point* #the larger arc for Aziraphale this season was learning to see the moral greys and the nuance #his character is wayyy more complex than Crowley's for a lot of reasons #but his intense inner conflict is what makes him such a compelling character #if he was like he was in the resurrectionists the entire time that would be really irritating #but the point is that he's trying to see the grey areas #sometimes he misses but he is trying #anyways i was explaining to my friend the three minisodes in order and was like wow. he did actually progress through those #aziraphale #good omens 2 #good omens meta #good omens #ineffable husbands #crowley #crowley is much easier to understand because he says whatever his opinion is on things where Aziraphale patently Doesn't #'a demon who goes along with hell as far as i can' #'my side' #agnagnsan i love this show
