She IS a writer.
Have a pear. 🍐
Firstly THANK YOU, she is trying to be 🥲
🍐 Is there anything in canon that you absolutely hate and love to fix in fics? A wrong choice made, a fuck-up in characterization, a misunderstanding never cleared up, a conversation never shown onscreen, etc…
Like a lot of readers and authors, I definitely like to write and read work that reconsiders which moments in characters’ lives were most formative emotionally, particularly ones that, in canon, are mentioned either as asides or barely relevant to the central plot. Harry as a limited narrator doesn’t always see other characters, especially the adults around him, that clearly. I think this the sort of work that really great Marauders fanfiction can do so beautifully: seeing flawed adult characters and working backwards to trace the emotional contours of their life that fashioned them into the imperfect articles we see in canon. I think it’s so exciting to go back and play around with that!
My fic idea notes are often along these lines. Like, Arthur Weasley was violently attacked in a near fatal attack in OotP and… no one ever mentions it again. Like, how was Arthur doing after that? Did it change his attitude to fatherhood? Does he think about it every Christmas? Or — in the war, Dean Thomas and Hermione are both persecuted as muggleborns, but Dean is a young Black boy likely from East London in the mid-nineties, and Hermione - even if we take her race as canonically undefined - seems to be the daughter of affluent dentists either from London or the Home Counties who goes skiing. How might those two characters, Dean especially, think about the vast differences them in the Muggle world while being placed in the same category as equals in the Wizarding World?
The other big one is the place of politics in the Wizarding World, and particularly the politics of resistance. The big one I’m desperate to try and sort out and write about, somehow, is how the Weasley family came to be and managed their status as a family of the resistance. It’s played down so much in canon, because the family first get introduced as Harry’s best friend’s family to provide a source of warmth and love for a young boy without one, and later seem to end up at the heart of the Order accidentally, almost through Harry. But it’s clear from so many throwaway details - the deaths of Fabian and Gideon Prewett, the divergence in the Black/Weasley/Prewett family trees, and the way Molly and Arthur willingly move their children to Grimmauld in OotP and later establish Order headquarters in their family home, that this is a family for whom resistance is a birthright. Molly frets about her children’s safety, but she also is committed to the cause, undertakes Order missions in her own right, and eventually duels Bellatrix Lestrange and wins. Bill transfers to London from his job in Egypt to be more active in the Order; Charlie recruits foreign fighters from abroad. From generation to generation, the family are openly political, subversive and actively resist both the influence of dark magic but also - and especially - aspects of the state and society entrenched in inequality and blood purity. I’ve been thinking about a lot about the Weasleys, and about political causes and fights that span generations, like Catholic Republican families in twentieth century Ireland, for instance. I’m itching to try to develop this theme in something, either through the Ginny character study I’m writing, or in its own one shot, and put politics at the centre of the family. (The Percy fight looks even juicier in this light, no?) It’s why I love ce ne sont que des cailloux by @pebblysand so much, for the ways it takes up this question to look at the Delacours and speculates about their generational history of resistance, including during the Occupation.
That said - the quick boring answer really should just be I will read every James Potter redemption fic I can get my hands on, and keep trying to have a go at writing one. Canon does the man extremely dirty! James was a character beloved by all-round canonical goodies, and he deserves fics that attend both to his clear good traits and his growing-up arc from teenager to young man, both of which are erased in canon. So justice for James 4 ever 💘

And, process !!

The jump btwn the second to last and last always surprise me whenever I make one of these because I always forget to take snapshots after I start painting. It's always like: oh yeah heres the lineart with some colors- BOOM fully finished✨️
What he's holding are the Austrian imperial scepter and orb, seen below:
Tumblr media
I was going to draw the crown too but decided I don't hate myself that much(maybe some other day), and gave him a golden laurel crown, bcs I'm obsessed with that as a motif, and also its very remincient of the boy king statue that started this whole thing!
There's some symbolism of this, both intentionally but also just historically. I love that the orb represents that the monarch is holding the world in their hand, basically every old monarchy has one of those, and I think it's very cool for symbolism. But also bcs of that, I was forced to basically draw catholic fanart so, you win some you lose some. The star halo above him head is both to reference those religious statues with star crowns(I saw them a lot in Europe and they imprinted onto my brain), as well as: his four championships of course!

😇- What's their best trait?
👿- What's their worst trait?
for Tuesday and Chuu
Tumblr media
“Miss Chuu’s best trait? Mmm… You said this is an interview for your retelling of the Warriors of Light and their journey, right? I’d say it’s her unshakeable resolve. She decides she’s going to do something, and she doesn’t give up until it’s done. Ah… I’m not allowed to speak more on Miss Chuu without her presence, my apologies, mister Levraut.”
Tumblr media
“You broke into my house,”
“Your lovely wife let me in actually,”
“To wake me up from my nap and interrogate me on my assistant,”
“Interview, Mademoiselle, not interrogate. Though I am sorry for waking you, your eyes were open so I assumed-”
“Ah-ta-ta. You wanted to know Two’s best trait right? Adaptability. Any environment, any obstacle… he’s got brains enough to figure the way through most anything. And failing that? He knows a top notch engineer in Magitek to kit him with the right tools to overcome his few shortcomings. Hey wait did you fucking call me a mad gazelle, you lop-eared scab?!”
Tumblr media
“Thank you for your time, both of you. I have just one more question before I consider this interview complete and I let you both go back to your.. erm, busy schedules. What would you say is each others weakest trait?”
“I knew it! This IS an interrogation! Two, don’t-”
“Ah, that would be Miss Chuu’s paranoia, mister Levraut. Most of her other traits net positive gain,”
“Watch your mouth, Two.”
Tumblr media
“That is.. ah, her paranoid trait has served to pull her out of many situations she would have landed in had they not afforded her foresight and caution to approach most situations.”
“Two’s worst trait is how I just can’t seem to keep mad at him when he finds and exploits loopholes in whatever rules I’ve set for him. And last week I asked him to bring me lunch, and he was nowhere to be seen for nearly six bells.”
“… Miss Chuu, if I may, you were in Azys La, and you called me via Linkpearl to bring you specifically egg sandwiches from the Bismark, even utilizing the Aethernet it takes time… and when I arrived at your last marked location you were nowhere to be found.”

Since Somnium is over, I figured a good ol' ramble was in order for anyone who might be interested.. ⚆_⚆
Tumblr media
I thought it'd be fun to go over a few things I've wanted to talk about in more detail, as well as answer some questions you guys had and maybe to spill some bts tea?! We'll see...
Tumblr media
Why does Oscar seem to bring out the best in the people around him?
A loaded question, and one that changes depending on the person in question; but to put it simply, he's relatable. The perfect acquaintance, Oscar's brash but not judgemental, he's easy-going, open enough, and to be perfectly honest, he doesn't give a shit what near strangers think about him. He doesn't lie to impress you, act differently or tiptoe around your opinions; he tells it how it is and he is what he is, like it or not. Perfectly flawed, self-assured (but also not..) and intelligent, he has no qualms about confronting you with your own flaws, but he's subtle about it, casual, intrigued even. He's on a quest to do better, so I think his determination can be infectious. He's not obnoxious about it though, if anything, his own struggles make him more approachable; anyone who spends even a small amount of time with him can easily tell that he's just as busy trying to pick up the pieces of his own life as well. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.. right?
Tumblr media
Why did Cookie stick around, despite what Oscar put her through?
Alexa, play Hopelessly Devoted to You... Honestly, Courtney's relationship with Oscar hasn't always been the healthiest. Abandoned, neglected and failed by the system as a child, she's always been obsessed by the idea of a perfect family; and to her, Oscar was it. She fully believes that he's her soulmate, and she fully believes in him too. It would've been easy for Cookie to become bitter and cautious, but that's just not her. She's spontaneous, kind-hearted and deeply believes there's some good in everyone; perhaps naively so... Majorly infatuated with Oscar's energy and the life they could have together, she rarely doubted him, even if everyone around her was screaming otherwise. Part of the reason Oscar fell so hard for her in the first place was because she was the only person who really saw him for who he was and actively encouraged him to be that person. Sure, she didn't expect the journey to be quite so.. eventful, but she still knew he'd get there one day, and she wanted to be with him for that, no matter the cost.
Tumblr media
What made Wyatt change his mind?
A tough question, to be honest. Wyatt's well aware that his perception of life has been warped by the world he was brought up in; but never before did he think to question it. His focus for most of his existence has been to impress his father; but after realising just how close Oscar had gotten to toppling that house of cards, he began to wonder.. why? If Arturo's empire collapsed beneath him, would Wyatt still want to impress him? He realised the answer was no. He realised he didn't care about his father as a person, he didn't care about his brother, nor about the success, or the money, so what was the point? It didn't help that Arturo seemed so enamoured with Oscar either, but despite how it may have seemed, Wyatt didn't blame Oscar. Instead, he decided he'd rather get revenge on the father that failed him. Courtney got under his skin too, not because he was particularly jealous of Oscar, but because she was the first person he could remember that actually wanted to talk to him.. just because. Maybe it wasn't the real him, and maybe she was just being nice, but it still struck a cord. Wyatt's least favourite thing about himself is how he reacts without thinking; or if he does, his mind usually jumps to "what's the most fucked up thing I can do to cause chaos here..?" He doesn't want to be like that though, and he doesn't understand why he isn't immediately repulsed by those thoughts. He's spent a good chunk of time trying to figure out why he's like that. When he found out Courtney was pregnant he actually felt bad. He clung onto that feeling like his life depended on it; a shred of raw emotion in a sea of hate. Maybe he wasn't who he thought he was after all? In the end, I think he realised he didn't want to be the villain anymore, and Oscar presented the perfect opportunity to act on that feeling...
Tumblr media
Why didn't Wyatt, among others, end up in prison?
To keep it somewhat simple, I'll stick to three main reasons; timing, the lack of evidence, and Norma/Eugene knowing when to pick their battles. Arturo confronting Oscar and co. actually ended up doing them a favour. Though it might've played out differently if he hadn't taken that bullet to the head, so thanks Leah! Kian ended up in prison only because he stuck around and confessed, if he was smart like everyone else and left town/laid low, he probably would've been fine. Because (hi, timing!) by the time Norma/Eugene really honed in on Arturo's little empire, it'd already fallen apart. They'd questioned Spencer 'til they were blue in the face (to give him a tiny bit of credit, he's loyal and smart.. spilling anything about Arturo wouldn't have done him any favours, nor would it have kept him out of prison.. or made him feel too great about himself, so he kept quiet) Kaden, Joey, Wyatt and Darien all left town, and Oscar n' co. were busy being all "boring" and shit. They knew what they were dealing with though, hence putting eyes on the boys, but it didn't amount to anything; and although they knew that Oscar n' co. were involved, they had no hard evidence.. "so and so said he did this" or "we know they were involved but we can't back it up with any hard evidence" doesn't hold up well in court. No one was willing to rat on anyone else, no one was up to no good, half of them were missing; it was clear to them (after many, many years in the business) that no one was coming to take over, and that business wasn't about to continue as usual under a new "leader". So instead, they picked their battles; shutting down the drug smuggling operations abroad, and tackling the likely still operating trafficking ring. Also, Norma really believes in people, despite her career choice. She's more than willing to trust her gut and give the good folk the benefit of the doubt. She can tell a bad apple from the bunch, and the boys weren't it.
As an author's side note, I always knew I didn't want Bruno to end up in prison again, which is half the reason Wyatt isn't in prison either. Their parallels are pretty strong (except personality ofc) as Cookie pointed out! So, either they both went to jail, or neither of 'em did. I chose the latter, just because..
Tumblr media
Q&A time!
Was Leah's end caused by her inner contradictions?
Hm, I think Leah met her end due to apathy, the belief that justice would eventually run it's course with or without her, and a morbid sense of.. just wanting to see what would happen? She could've left if she really wanted to, and although she still felt loyal enough to Kian not to help the boys, she kinda wanted to see them succeed from the side-lines, despite the risk. Depressed and suicidal, Leah didn't care what happened to her. I didn't really plan another ending for her tbh, but if she didn't die she would've stuck around, maybe visited the boys now n' then, maybe even Kian. She would've forever felt empty and unable to move on though I think, so maybe she's better off...
Did I ever want to give Ivan & Matilda another chance?
Aha! Honestly, no.. I think like Tilda, I felt it'd run it's course. We didn't see ofc, but the pair had been on again off again for years so it's probably the millionth time they've broken up lmaoo.. I like to think they both realised they just weren't meant to be :')
Did I ever think about killing Courtney off again?
Sometimes, but I think Oscar would've been so broken and idk if he would've succeeded otherwise, which was the whole point of the story I suppose.
What would an unhappy ending for Somnium look like?
Well, I guess Cookie would be dead.. Oscar would still be heavily addicted to various substances/estranged from his family. Ivan would've died, Bruno would be in prison, Leah would still be stuck with Kian, Wyatt would never have regained his tiny amount of humanity, Artie n' co. would've somehow gotten away with everything or put the blame on someone else and be sunning it up in Sulani or wherever... It doesn't bear thinking about really, does it? ◉_◉
Did I ever plan on killing Bruno?
I briefly considered him getting shot by Arturo instead of Ivan and his dying as a result of that, buuut.. I don't think his death would've affected much (despite Ivan being heartbroken ofc) or furthered the plot in any way, so I didn't see the point.
What happened to the workers of Lucie's?
Those who didn't really know much would've probably been like, ffs I gotta find another gig now? LAME! But most of 'em have just moved on, counting themselves lucky they weren't "chosen".
Will we see Rickey & Pat again?
Maybe. It's a shame they lost touch, but I wanted to show a clear fork in the road for Oscar and what he gave up by sticking around/falling down the rabbit hole. To be fair as well, Rickey & Oscar never had much in common other than a love of computers and the amount of drugs they could consume in one sitting. Sometimes best friends drift apart, y'know? And that's okay!
Did I think about redeeming Arturo? Would he have let the boys go, if they'd asked?
Yes and.. maybe. He was genuinely fond of Oscar, and he thought of Bruno as a son in his own way too. The guy had taken him under his wing over a decade ago, he was gutted when he found out B was in on it. Artie wanted to kill him though, and he was going to.. and if Leah didn't kill him, we would've seen that he couldn't actually pull the trigger :') It was too late for him, but he would've considered taking the fall for his boys, like he said he would. Although.. Riona might've killed him or gone on her own rampage at that point so maybe it's a good thing he died after all LOL
What's Bruno's story?
It's a short story, to be honest. Directionless and troubled, he fell into the wrong crowd after his school years; winding up in prison following an "armed" robbery gone wrong. He met even worse types inside, and upon leaving, was taken under Arturo's wing.
What was it about Bruno that finally caused Ivan to accept his sexuality?
Nothing in particular, I don't think. Ivan had known he was bi since high school, but he'd never really developed strong feelings for another man. He figured he was just "kinda bi" and mostly liked women, which suited him fine; his father's homophobia left him feeling ashamed about that side of himself, so it was "natural" for him to ignore it. Except it wasn't, and he fell in love :')
Did Oscar tell Ivan/Bruno about Wyatt's visit?
Nope, him and Cookie have kept that to themselves. They might bring it up if anyone asks, but he's gone now, so what's the point in stressing them about it?
Who was supposed to die but lived/live but die?
Well, y'all know I barely plan shit so nothing was set in stone lmaooo.. Ivan was supposed to die though tbh, but I kinda thought that Oscar didn't deserve to be punished anymore (for being the reason Ivan stayed) and I'd grown attached to him, so I let the dice decide for me as a "last chance" type thing. Arturo wasn't always supposed to die either... Idk this question is hard to answer cos I never planned anything out properly ahahakdjksj
Was the wedding (and Robin) the original end game or did that evolve through character growth?
Um I had no end game until the end sdkjsdkj.. but I knew I wanted Oscar to have a happy ending, and that him n' Cookie would end up together too. Robin was a happy accident thanks to wicked whims, but I knew they'd end up having lots of kiddos and although the timing was bad for poor Cookie, in terms of their ages/the timeline for my future plans, it worked well so I just went with it. It took me a long time to figure out what the end would be, but as ever, I naturally came to the conclusion along with the story. Everyone got a bit of a wrap up arc in the last chapter, which I think set the stage for a happy ending quite nicely.
What three characters do I consider the most evil/irredeemable?
Riona. Not a maternal bone in her body; she's cold, calculating and headstrong, she'll mow down anyone in her way without a second thought, and she'll enjoy it. Kian. I know we all kinda felt sorry for him in the end but make no mistake, he's a selfish man, undeserving of such sympathy! He may not have wanted to take over the family business, but he didn't see anything wrong with it, nor was he glad it was over. When shit hit the fan, all he could think about was that he didn't want to go to prison, he didn't consider anyone else's situation or how they might feel, not even Leah. The only reason he handed himself over was because he didn't want to deal with the guilt of ignoring Leah's last wish, not because he actually thought it was the right thing to do. Killing Riona wasn't even for Leah's sake either, he did that because she goaded him, because she insulted him. Last of all, he didn't give up Wyatt because he didn't want to deal with his wrath once he found out, not because he feels particularly loyal to him; I actually think he probably dislikes Wyatt even more now. He's an entitled asshole of a daddy's boy, basically. Ashton. His only regret is that he got caught, he doesn't care about the people who've suffered due to his actions, nor will he ever change. All he cares about is power and money. He comes across as friendly and amenable, but only if you're useful to him, or he owes you something. Prison will not affect his morals in the slightest.. in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he's already running some kind of protection ring in there by now.
What planned romances were discarded/which romantic pairings too you by surprise?
The beauty of my complete disregard for planning is that these guys tend to half write themselves lmaooo.. Rhys & Tommy took me by surprise tbh, but they kept gravitating toward each other behind the scenes and even started flirting by themselves so I was like.. okay! Similarly with Bruno/Ivan to be honest. I always had in mind that Bruno would develop a bit of a thing for Ivan but I didn't necessarily plan it as mutually romantic to begin with, more that he'd just be quite protective of Ivan, or that he'd be an unrequited love. As Ivan began working on himself though, it became clear to me that he was much more comfortable with himself, which led to his openness in actually considering more than a friendship between the two. Though I did think it was a bit of a shame him and Mia weren't compatible for a while, but they make better besties anyway. I also considered Ivan ending up with his one night stand, Jessie; but he was already in love with Bruno at that point and she didn't seem interested so.. no. I briefly wanted Courtney to end up with someone else for a while, someone who was "perfect" but didn't have the same spark as Oscar. I realised that she didn't need that to come to the conclusion that he was "it" for her though, so I scrapped the idea.
Tumblr media
Phew.. if you read all that you deserve a whole tray of cookies! 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪
It's super fun to delve into this kinda stuff though, so feel free to ask more questions if you want! Now that I've got my main ramblings out of the way, I'd like to work on another rambly post outlining my plans/ideas for the future so.. that'll be coming soon-ish, life permitting! I'm kinda bummed that Somnium is over but I'm suuuper glad the big plot stuff is out of the way, I've been having fun setting up a new save and thinking up a vague direction I want to go in. It makes me sad not being able to share any of it yet though, so I wanna get an announcement out asap! That way I can get the opening "scenes" out of the way and be able to share bloopers n' such again!
As a treat for reading this far, the name of my new "story not story" will be: Forever In Between 🤭 I really hope there's no other stories on here called that tho kdskjdk

Points at you. 10 and/or 11 for starstruck?
Two starstruck asks,,,,,,joy of joys,,
Part of an ask game linked here.
#10. What's an au you have for them?
Since them meeting at all is technically an AU i have 3 different ways that they do meet up. There's the one where Juniper ends up with the agency/adjacent to and ends up working with Reggie (have written a fic with this). The next one is Juniper surviving but basically going stealth and living as normal of a life as he can and ending up meeting Reggie through chance (most recent fic I've written). And then there's my personal favourite where Reginald "You're lucky my tracking skills are still up to snuff" Crane keeping himself busy after Phoenix was MIA and finding Juniper still alive (fic I want to write but haven't started mainly because it may end up multi chapter).
In terms of more AU canon bending taking them and putting them in a completely unrelated situation...I have a guilty pleasure Warrior Cats AU for IEYTD in general. Both JJ and Reggie have perfect warrior cats suffixes in their names already (Juniper and Crane) so they're called Junipersong (charcoal bengal) and Craneflight (tabby Norwegian forest cat). It's very silly but the amount of scenes I have in my mind for it...good lord...
#11. How was their first kiss like?
Augh my friend Imp wrote an absolutely excellent fic about it (tragically in the realm of unfinished Google docs) and I'm shaking their hand about it so hard. Basically Juniper kissing Reggie but he like wasn't ready/fully expecting it and Juniper absolutely panicking because he thinks he's misread every interaction between them both since they got closer. The second one is much sweeter though,,
#realised i phrased all the fics ive written like those ghosts that haunted scrooge#ah yes the fic of starstuck past#the fic of starstruck present and the fic of starstruck yet to come. it's so dumb#and uhh for the warrior cats thing um. of course they aren't purebreds minus Juniper who used to be a kittypet (housecat) but -#- it was moreso for easy description#reggie is fluffy but he's not quite maine coonf fluffy...norwegan forest cat was a nice middle ground...still gets big guy points too#also um side note roxanix in that au um. they adopted a kit as a stand in for robutler in that au......#also solaris is a VERY grumpy warrior turned medicine cat annnnd thats about all I have fully hashed out in my mind for it so far#im so torn abt also having triple threat.....extra large polycule where phoenix is just intimidated by the others prism is dating lmao#ANYWAYS ENOUGH ABOUT THE WARRIOR CATS AU#can you tell I have a special interest in cats/warrior cats. oh how I miss drawing cats. but I must learn people. for the brainworms...ouuu#i don't have much else to say on that second question other than....AUUUUUUGH they're so. there's so much pent up stuff.#like for JJ it's the first time he's let himself actually love another man the way he wants to while for Reggie it's a lot of -#- realising JJ is trying to be a better person while still ackowleging the fact that he did bad??? basically second chance yada yada#man. i love these two#ik im a broken ass reccord but I've never proactively posted abt them outside the last couple months and it's been so theraputic#ty for the ask it was fun :3c#ieytd#starstruck#junicrane#ask game#not tagging them specifically I don't wanna clog up tags too much#god WHY do i have such an issue eith that. mental issue. anyways

might be a moot question bc Alyssa living to raise her sons potentially changes a bunch of shit down the line, but: do you think Alyssa would have liked/Approved of aemma? wb (assuming she lives that long for some reason), alicent? its possible some of her fondness for daella would transfer to her kid but it's also possible she'd like. project that grief onto the kid she died giving birth to. I'm spinning her around in my mind i love my toxic bi #boymom
no this is an interesting question!… honestly i think if alyssa had lived longer to raise her sons they wouldve ended up …Weirder. alyssa going through a massive psychological shift after her marriage to baelon and having children. cough cough #boymom grooming+emotional incest cough cough helicopter parenting.
just to streamline things a bit im gonna assume alyssa and baelon dont have anymore children after aegon dies. and baelon still dies when he does canonically.
i could see alyssa orginally pushing for a rhaenys/viserys marriage. (possibly) unlike baelon or jae, she has no qualms about marrying her son to someone who will walk all over him, and unlike aemon im not sure she would be concerned with what being married to a male relative would do to rhaenys claim to the throne. rhaenys and viserys are just like her and baelon when they were kids. without a sister, viserys marrying his cousin is the next best option. but after getting overruled by her brothers/father i think she would approve of aemma/vis as a counter offer. maybe attracted to the idea of having daellas daughter, the last living peice of her, close. back home. she couldnt protect daella, and maybe even blames herself a bit for her being sent away. but maybe she can protect her daughter instead? maybe that will provide her some peace?
but that would, of course, not include protecting aemma from viserys. or the grooming, sexual abuse, duties of marriage that come with being his wife. thats what aemma (and daella) actually needs protecting from, thats also one of the few things alyssa *cant* protect them from. she couldnt even save herself from it. inversely, i think alyssa would end up contributing to the grooming of aemma. maybe even doing it thinking shes helping aemma. making it easier for her. or something.
while alyssa is attracted to the *idea* of aemma, i think actually being around her would be very hard for the exact reason you mentioned. aemma would be just a constant reminder of the sister she lost. and how/why she lost her. everytime alyssa sees daella in aemma shes torn between love and grief and anger all over again. i think alyssa would *want* to be close with aemma, but theres just too many conflicts of interests.
alyssa was only 17 when she had viserys! she wouldve been 46 when he married alicent if she lived. i *could* see an argument for alyssa meeting alicent and seeing this young girl surrounded by grown men who want to sleep with her and feel her protective instincts kick in. *but*…. we need to remember alyssa wouldve met alicent after baelon dies…
a little aside cause its relevant for this- my alyssa uses valyrian supremacy as a way to cope with the generational cycles of abuse and incest. being raised on the doctrine of exceptionalism, i think it would be very hard for alyssa to accept and cope with the idea that her big brother was killed by something so mundane as *illness* that baelon the brave was brought down by *biology*. so like viserys, i think she would start looking for other explanations.
and like viserys, the man who suddenly shot up the ranks of lords to become the second most powerful man in the kingdom, whose whispering in her fathers ear, essentially ruling in his name, sending his daughter to his rooms. would be an attractive person to blame. so i think alyssa would actually dislike alicent, through her paranoia of otto. *especially* if she learned about alicent and viserys affair… thats just sinking their claws in deeper
im not entirely sure how things would play out after aemmas death. i mean, i know it would retraumatize alyssa, daellas daughter dying the exact same way she did. alyssa failed her, again. i imagine her lashing out at viserys, blaming him. but also not wanting to give up her control over him, especially now that hes king, by doing something like, say, leaving for dragonstone.
so i dont think alyssa wouldve approved when viserys told her he wanted to marry alicent. it probably wouldve caused a huge fight between the two of them. i could see alyssa wanting him to marry laena, for the same reasons that she wanted him to marry rhaenys. she does *not* approve of viserys marrying outside the family, *especially* to ottos daughter. he killed viserys father! and she *knows* he knows that too…
all that aside, i just dont think alyssa and alicent would get along on a personality level. alyssa is rowdy and nasty and rude. that would clash hard with alicents proper goodgirl upbringing. shed think alicent was stuck up and a prude. alicents faith i think would be another point of contention with her valyrian supremist mother in law.
but well viserys is the king now, she doesnt control him anymore, he can make his own dumb decisions. alyssa at that point i could see deciding to take a little vacation to dragonstone, skipping her sons second wedding. making her disapproval obvious.
at *best* her and alicents relationship would be extremely strained… and im not sure how much alyssa would want to interact with her grandchildren from alicent…

👻🍧 Samiraaaaa and one of your choice!!
im gonna do birddog for my other choice hehe!!
👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their “ghostly experiences”, if any?
oh phenomenal question. like functionally samira Has to believe in ghosts because the reson she's doing all of this is like stupid desperate hope that the synapse will show her a vision of her dead sister. which isnt how the synapse works but its what she needs so bad. however she has never had any ghostly experiences, and i dont think she ever will!!! i always go back and forth on if ibtihaj's ghost actually shows up during the course of signoise or not but right now im firmly in 'no'.
i think the definition of 'ghost' is weird for birdie - both her and most of the people she knows are able to physically come back to life, so seeing them again after death isn't abnormal for her. i think if she saw something that she understood as a ghost she would be DEEPLY unsettled
🍧 SHAVED ICE - do they still have any objects from their childhood? what significance does it have to them? what would their reaction be if they lost it?
i dont think samira does!!! the amount to which samira is outright dismissive of, cagey about, and has disregarded her own history is notable for the fact shes a historian and also a thing she's specifically thought about. she is so interested in keeping records that she knows very well that she does not want to leave one of her own for someone else to find and interpret. the act of being interpreted is so frightening to samira (HYPOCRITE!!!!!)
i think that before the plot of dogstar begins, birddog keeps hold of a piece of the 'sail' of the ship she used to go through the eye + into this world. its significant because it was her moment of heroics + a part of her identity she really held onto until it got worn away. theres a chance she finds this again sometime along her journey, its meaing warped so that now it represents the thing she has to destroy (but still represents the same stupid heroics!

🍍 What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?
Tbh I'm fine with pretty much anything as long as it's written well and actually works with the canon material a bit (especially if they take place in a different setting than originally), but anything that kinda Doesn't do that I'm more meh about. Like coffee shop aus and stuff. I need a little bit more going on plot wise hakdhsksj
🫐 What’s your favorite underrated thing in your fandom? (A ship that only you seem to write for, a character there’s almost no fics about, a trope that criminally hasn’t been written yet, etc.)
Gonna answer this for tmnt in which case PEOPLE NEED TO DO MORE WITH CASSANDRA!!! she is so everything to me I need people to stop ignoring her as rise's Casey Jones 🙏🙏

the magician and the magician in reverse for halin and/or raiden? xoxo
HIII ILY
The Magician: How does your character unleash their creativity or resourcefulness?
Halin: general scheming and plotting. Conceptualizing moving plots, scarce resources, and the love of the adrenaline rush. Unfortunately I am a little too stupid to be doing her justice lol, but ideally she should be playing 4D chess at all times to pull of jobs and heists. She also reads a lot of poetry and likes to spout what she thinks is relevant for the situation (which is making me read and annotate poetry now. Thanks Hal)
Raiden: I think Raiden and Halin are actually really similar? But Raiden downplays it since he doesn’t want any expectations on him. But he’s also good at recognizing moving parts and patterns (hence the reason he figures out there’s a themi onboard the prison.) other than that I don’t think Raiden really likes to tap into his creativity? He’s a decent singer, and he’d probably be really good at whatever he picked up, but there’s something about the act of creation that just doesn’t sit well with him.
The Magician in Reverse: When was your character manipulated?
Halin: … Actium Chapter 8 coming 2035 at some point! But essentially, Halin overlooked some glaring red flags bc she was in love. That’s not gonna be something she allows to happen again.
Raiden: Raiden manipulates Raiden lol. But for sure when he was younger and enlisted into some awful work for the paycheck. Now, he’s also aware enough to realize when he’s being manipulated, but he’ll still choose to go along with it.

cannoli - how does your muse express love? how do they act when in love that differs from how they act around others normally?
PASTRY LOVE HEADCANONS ・ not accepting!
hrm hrm hrm ... under the assumption that love, at least for the first question, extends to its platonic and familial forms, then the simple answer would be the phrase from her inspiration tag, "love is pain. pain is punishment". the third part would simply repeat, "and punishment is love".
although I've discussed her view on romantic love in small headcanons, I do not think it would stray too far from her ideals surrounding familial and platonic love. after all, are all forms of love not customary for obligation? is there not something to be given and laid in your partner's hands no matter the bond?
while I highly disagree with the notion that Zephia had any actual love, whether romantic or any, for Sombron, as she debunks this thought when speaking to Griss in Chapter 23, the way she behaves towards him is what she would expect from her partner; obedient, eager to please, and attentive to all she says. since he was the one to find her, centuries ago, she is the one who owes him all she is. servitude is the only expression of love that she believes is genuine.
anyone can say they love you. anyone can perform grand feats of public love. anyone can open their coin pouch and buy a gift in your name. but only a few can, without hesitation, throw themselves at your feet to make you smile.
the only difference between romantic, familial, and platonic love is the degree of affection; and how much you would sacrifice and lose in their name. "love is pain. pain is punishment. and punishment is love." can you really love someone if you are not willing to cut out their heart at the happenstance of betrayal? what of infidelity? failure? pain and punishment will always have a place in Zephia's heart, and, as such, will be equally taught to those she loves.
if you do not commit to the part, then you will be punished. if you do not reciprocate, then you will be hurt. to be loved, and be able to love, is the consent to withstand the inevitable pain that follows any relationship. and because Zephia will only love someone she sees as worthy, first, then her approach calls for their servitude, not the other way around.
love is pain, but that pain is not a two-way street until you tilt the scales of the hierarchy and step out of line.

Hey Caden! I hope you are well!!! I’ve been reading Donna Haraway for my thesis for a Science Fiction course on ethnofuturism and I was wondering if you’ve ever read her stuff or if there was anything to correlate between Succession and her work since her comments on biomedical literature, nature, and artufactualism remind me both of what you’ve written and a lot of what Succession has said on the body and the manipulations of what is fact and fiction. I’m just curious so sorry for the weirdly worded ask and no pressure if it’s not a subject with a lot to comment on!
hi megan! i'm good ^_^ hope you're also well!
my familiarity with haraway is partially secondhand (ie, she pops up in a lot of people's footnotes, so i'm more likely to encounter her ideas that way than by reading her directly) but yes, i do think there are connections to be made here.
haraway works in a social constructivist paradigm (stop me if you've heard this before) that emphasises the socially embedded ('artifactual') nature of scientific theory and the artificiality of the boundaries between nature and culture, nature and technology, and technology and the body. my very strong opinion is that succession makes a lot of overlapping claims, such as by showing the socially constructed nature of truth (the roys constantly narrativise and re-narrativise, and the show rarely plays god by telling us who's 'correct'), and in the way the characters use language (the words are often empty, meaningless, or semantically re-deployed, thus challenging accepted categories of fact and methods of fact-making).
in this vein, i've written a little before about succession as post-structuralist. the major difference i would identify between haraway and succ (besides specific subject matter) is that haraway works in science and technology studies, a field with a predominantly sociological slant, whereas i think succ makes its critique more through the tools of historicisation. however, these methods obviously have a tendency to bleed into one another, and there's a reason most historians of the past few generations have a broadly constructivist philosophical orientation.
if you're into this stuff you might like some of the other sts/philsci classics (bruno latour, david bloor, paul feyerabend, sandra harding, simon schaffer) or the standard post-structuralists (deleuze, derrida, foucault, etc) or even some of the new materialists (jane bennett, karen barad, graham harman, quentin meillassoux). truly very sexy stuff i'm always reading succ through my little constructivist-historicist-materialist lens >:)

⚔️ and 🎩 for the ask game!
🎩 — What would an Exceptional Story featuring this character be about?
oooh.. likely something focusing on the dichotomy of her love for urchins, cats, and other flit-things, but also her once being in the university and other like. sophisticated things ig. mae could be actively involved in something like the university or high society while also being involved in some silly urchin stuff under the hood (maybe like what the stoats do. aka silly prank war shit lmao). you could be a mediator or on a specific side, trying to get them out of the other. maybe somebody in society is suspicious of her or just wants some scandal on her name, or the urchins find their game to be much more worthwhile/dont want the rest of society getting involved in their business. the cats would be good info-givers or guides, and would have the ability to fit in on either side, which makes them useful...
though thats a more lighthearted option - another could be a delve into her relationship with the eye, since it's pretty unique to her. i do feel like i focus too much on the starved war though, so that specific part would be on backpedal. itd more focus on the lasting effects and the hunt for knowledge. you'd be involved with her on some kind of case or other mission. perhaps mae knows this will make her go mad with nightmares, and she's trusted you to be her decision-maker once they come. you'd have to make some moral decisions, and maybe even save her from the knowledge she's seeking (or dont! let her face the consequences!)
making the moral choice would keep you both on the right path, but you'd be missing out on the knowledge you could gain if you let things get worse. if you went too deep into a certain place, or chose to look at what you know you shouldn't. knowledge is powerful, after all. they keep their secrets and nightmares highly guarded, talking about them vaguely and esoterically, but on high nightmares those walls degrade. you'd get to know more about her relationship with the eye and how it affects her, and just know what she's actually talking about, what she hides from others. if you took that path, you'd be delving into their exact same madness, but you would so intimately know everything. you would know and see what noone else does.
but back on the moral path, since that's not flesh out enough: the moral path would give you lore on other characters, as well as more precious or material rewards. choosing not to indulge in her madness will make the case or mission you're both on more successful, and the people around you happier. you could even try and balance these paths to get the best of both worlds.
did not think i had so much in me for a mae es but god damn i did!! and im quite happy with these concepts :3
⚔️ — Do they have a particular fighting style/signature weapon?
their fighting style is a mishmash of everything she's seen from others - particular tricks she's noticed around, ways of moving found outside of fighting (like in the flit for fast and quiet burglary), etc etc. she lost her memories before she went to the neath, so any old fighting style is now just instinct or a mostly-intact intuition.
her weapon is a notable lack of scars, which has 2 blades so her weapon is dual swords! as the name implies, they're evasive and can play the long game, enduring growing wounds until it's time to strike/you can't endure them.

In oop, do you think that if Emmet had fallen through the rift with their full team of pokemon - let's give him the advantage of having healing and held items too - that he could win against one of the frenzied/origin form legendaries duking it out in the temple? Like knock it out and break the frenzy without using the balms to calm it or the origin ball to catch it. You don't actually get to battle them in the game, but with how strong the nobles get when frenzied, they're probably really hard to k.o. Then again, Emmet would have 11 level 100 pokemon who all trust him implicitly and that he has worked with pretty much every day for many, many years even if he can't completely remember most of it.
ok so there are like a few different angles to consider this from;
from a purely game-mechanical standpoint: yeah absolutely like it wouldn't even be a challenge. WITH healing items? and ALL of the team? i mean it's already been shown that emmet's more than fine with going above 2 on the field if the situation demands it. and the deities are level like, what, 60? when you catch them? he wouldn't even need to do anything he'd just stand there and watch while his team went ham. he probably has some pokeballs on him too, to like restrain strays that get on the tracks or something, so he could catch them. ez victory plot resolved we can all go home now
from an OOP lore standpoint: the deities if you'll have noticed aren't. quite like their ingame versions. they're beefier. more aggressive and more capable of lasting harm. beyond fighting them the first challenge would even just be getting close enough to hit them without getting gravity switched on you or having your sense of time upended. this would require actual strategizing on emmet's part but he could probably work something out if he had some time to see how they worked first, he's good at thinking on his feet like that. having chandelure cushion/block inputs with psychics, using burrowing to evade wave attacks, quick recall-and-resend of team members to pull them out of the way, that kind of thing
also from the standpoint of like, character motivations, it's not even a sure deal that he would go after them in the first place. at least, not as the first thing he did. he's busy alright? the gods of reality can Wait, he needs to go find his brother. so we also have to keep in mind that unless he literally got dumped into the middle of the temple, he's probably not going to be fighting them alone, either

I have questions for you. If you want to answer them, feel free to.
1: What’s your favorite existing album? Neotheater, OK Orchestra, The Click, or one of their older ones?
2: If you could only listen to one AJR song ever, what would it be?
3: Who’s your favorite Met brother?
4: What’s the saddest AJR song you’ve listened to?
5: What song are you most excited for in TMM?
i love questions!!! very excited to answer these 😎
Neotheater is my fave!! tbh it might be my favourite album of all time... ofc all their albums are great but i think Neotheater works the best in the context of a full album, with how it presents its themes and develops them through each song
SUCH A TOUGH QUESTION... probably The DJ is Crying for Help tho, since it's my favourite song of theirs!
i love them all, but Jack is my fave :) hes very silly
i feel like God is Really Real is objectively their saddest song, but tbh the saddest song for me personally is Turning Out Pt. ii. it's the combination of the devastating lyrics and almost... haunting?? instrumental that gives me maximum emotional damage
so hard to choose just one but... probably Touchy Feely Fool? i know it's already technically out but i'm waiting till album release to listen, and i just know i'm gonna love it based on teasers & the reviews ive heard !!!
