viserys and baldwin parallels? :3
i wanted to wait to answer this until i got a chance to check the crusades book i was reading to see if it covered baldwin iv. so id have some actual. information and im not just going off koh and wikipedia 😭 but my ebook reader keeps crashing whenever i open kindle and idk what its problem it and i dont feel like fighting it rn so… ill just add onto this later if i find more
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but other than this, (and the whole leper king bit) which- tbf! makes me want to eat glass, there arent a lot of similarities that im seeing?
you could Possibly draw a line between baldwins successions issues, being unable to marry or have children himself. wanting to abdicate the throne onto sibylla but the issues with her husbands preventing it- with viserys succession questions. but i think thats a bit of a stretch.
baldwins whole thing is that he was very strong, and persevering, especially in the face of his illness. he was smart, he made good choices, he held things together. i think he was considered to be a pretty good king. you cant say any of those things about viserys.

re: lysa that she was likely fairly far along by the time hoster gave it to her. so the difference between plan b taken the night after and something taken several months along basically
that was also something i was thinking. i havent read asoiaf in a min so i cant remember the exact timeline but if lysa had tried to hide the pregnancy from hoster until she couldnt anymore… obviously a miscarriage ~couple months along is going to be harder, physically, than the equivalent of a morning after pill or even something a few weeks along.
assuming moon tea works the same as the herbal abortives i was talking about (inducing contractions), depending on how long along lysa was, her ‘abortion’ mightve been an entire labor. being forced into the birthing bed to deliver a dead baby.
going the medical route, this also lends credit to the idea the moon tea was brewed wrong, the maesters maybe thinking that they need to give lysa a larger dose since she was further along than they normally do this? poisoning leading to lysas future health problems?
or if its a thematic thing (as i saw mentioned in the notes), it doesnt have anything to do with the medicine at all. the reason lysa had such a violent and traumatic reaction to the moon tea is because she didnt consent to it. every other woman we see takes it willingly. it was forced on her. lysa desperately wanted her baby, and petyr. hoster takes them both from her. and then punishes her by marrying her to someone his age. i cant imagine how traumatic it would be to loose a baby you want, but to have that baby Taken from you? by your father? just… beyond unimaginable

if you have some lamb you wanna season, you can crush up a leaf of pennyroyal for a nice minty kick
if your period is a little late you can brew some pennyroyal tea to bring it on
if your period is Really late you can brew some Very Strong tea to Make Sure It Comes
if you wanna kill someone you can distill that tea down into an oil and add it to that nice minty lamb you just cooked
medicine is fun!

not to well acktually a post i generally agree with, cause i DO think hotd has affected peoples perceptions of ye olde abortives, for the worse,
but like, mugwort, or pennyroyal, for instance, have been used for a very long time to induce abortions. they can be toxic in high doses and women have died using them. but its not a ‘womb destorying poison’. some herbal abortives were also used to regulate periods, or were thought to Help concieve. herbal abortives were even used for other medical purposes. tansy (tanacetum vulgare) for instance, was also used to treat intestinal worms. hotd even specifically says moon tea has to be brewed very carefully. its all about the dosage.
a lot of old school abortives work by inducing contractions in the womb which leads to a miscarriage. Most cases a miscarriage wont lead to future fertility problems, but it Can. especially if theres complications. and the more miscarriages someone has, the more likely they are.
i think with lysa, its possible the moon tea wasnt brewed right, or she had a bad reaction to it. either way she ended up having complications and a very traumatic miscarriage that effected her for the rest of her life
pet peeve is how hotd + fanfic have this perception of moon tea as medieval plan b and not straight up womb destroying poison

saw your crackship post and i would like to add my very specific version of sansa/ramsay. it's about a tired stressed out on the verge of a mental breakdown girl having ENOUGH and doing her best to manipulate the newest mad dog/mold her own protector...while said mad dog is off terrorizing innocents but strangely fascinated with soft-spoken but unflinching sansa
okay okay i could see this…
mad dog fascinated with the one person not scared him sansa usinf that to her advantage to make him her Own guard dog…

got tagged by @atopvisenyashill to talk about asoiaf crackships. gonna talk about the young wolf and his mad dog!! >:3c
(yall know i tried to look robb/sandor on ao3, ff.net, and just a general google search and found nothing? please tell me i did not invent this ship?)
sandor has a Fixation on robb. nobody else in westeros will accept him. hes a monster. they all know it. he cant go back home. he cant go back to the lannisters. the newly seceded north with their new boy-king seems like the only option he has. but after everything hes done, he cant just show up. he needs a peace offering.
so sandor finds and kidnaps this boykings missing sister so *he* can return her safe and sound. so he can prove the assumptions wrong about him, that hes not just a monster. that he can be trustworthy, respectable. that robb needs him, he Has too. hes the only option sandor has.
robb, as king in the north, has power and authority. he has the power to give sandor a fresh start, a new home. to forgive his sins. to give him a new purpose. maybe to even respect him as more than a near rabid dog.
and robb, who has gone through so many betrayals recently, having someone that he KNOWS he can trust… and i know. youre squinting at me saying robb could trust sandor but LISTEN. robb has been working off the assumption pretty much since ned died that arya is also dead. then sandor comes in and drops arya at his feet, more-or-less safe and sound. he brought her back from the dead, gave his mother one of her daughters back. then sandors offering to commit the worst sin possible, For Robb, to deal a massive blow to the lannisters, not to win himself any victory or glory, but just to prove that robb could trust him.
robb knows that sandor doesnt have anywhere else to go. he wouldnt be here if he did. he knows hes sandors last hope. if robb rejects him he might as well pack it up and jump on a boat to join a sellsword company. hes done. robb holds sandors future in his hands. theres a certain security there, along with sandors desperate attempts to prove himself, that he wont be betrayed again. that maybe robb Can trust sandor.
and i also just think robb does Want to see the best in people, to believe in them. so he does give sandor a chance
im tagging…….. @maegorsbignaturals @knightsickness @ludcake @daenerysoftarth ………. and the girl reading this <3

viserys used to always look up to rhaenys. he followed her everywhere. was always a half step behind her in the red keep. just like his mother was with his father, and his father was with rhaenys father. he listened to everything she said. wouldve done anything for her.
the last time he looks at her like that is when his name gets read at harrenhal instead of hers. thats the last time hes her baby cousin.

viserys reaction to ‘the queen who never was’ vs rhaenyras children being called bastards is a lot of why i say viserys has low self esteem. like hes willing to defend rhaenyra but not himself

alicent and daemon were doing the Same things with rhaenyra. but as alicent is a Woman she thinks she cant ‘ruin’ rhaenyra, take her virtue, the same way she was- daemon could. alicent justifies it to herself as shes just Teaching rhaenyra. Preparing her for her future duties. rhaenyra doesnt have a mother to teach her these things, whose supposed to teach her about whats expected of her? viserys? please.

So when do you think Alinyra fucked?
before rhaenyra “left” her for daemon. before the criston/daemon/nyra situation happened.
and then again after rhaenyra took kls. after rhaenyra decides to take both her brother and late fathers wives as her war prizes
